Phase 1 consisted of identifying and developing EPAs; Phase 2 consisted of building a national consensus on developed EPAs (validation process); and Phase 3 consisted of mapping the validated EPAs with the Saudi Meds competency framework. Nominal group and modified Delphi techniques were used to develop consensus on EPAs. Classical test theory-based item analysis was conducted to establish validity and reliability of finalized EPAs.Results: Fifteen expert medical educationists and 109 academic leaders from 23 medical schools participated in the validation process. The study achieved a consensus on 10 core EPAs with an overall reliability (Cronbach’s Alpha) of 0.814. The item-total correlation ranged from 0.341 to 0.642.Conclusion: This study results in a national consensus on generic, comprehensive and region-specific EPAs that have been mapped with Saudi Meds competency framework. Our study is the first step in the direction of facilitating EPA-based curricular reforms in Saudi medical schools.Keywords: competency-based medical education, undergraduate training, entrustable professional activities, competency framework, Saudi Meds

Although the toxicity of individual Fe3O4 or TiO2 NPs has been studied extensively, the toxicity of Janus Fe3O4-TiO2 NPs is not clear. Methods: In this study, the biosafety of both Janus Fe3O4-TiO2 NPs (20–25 nm) and the maternal material TiO2 NPs (7–10 nm) were evaluated in Sprague Dawley rats after one intravenous injection into the tail vein. Healthy rats were randomly divided into one control group and six experimental groups. Thirty days after treatment, rats were killed, then blood and tissue samples were collected for hematological, biochemical, element-content, histopathological, and Western blot analysis. Results: The results show that only a slight Ti element accumulation in the heart, spleen, and liver could be found in the Janus Fe3O4-TiO2 NP groups (P>0.05 compared with control). However, significant Ti element accumulation in the spleen, lungs, and liver was found in the TiO2 NP-treated rats. Both Fe3O4-TiO2 NPs and TiO2 NPs could induce certain histopathological abnormalities. Western blot analysis showed that both NPs could induce certain apoptotic or inflammatory-related molecular protein upregulation in rat livers. A certain degree of alterations in liver function and electrolyte and lipid parameters was also observed in rats treated with both materials. However, compared to Janus structure Fe3O4-TiO2 NP-treated groups, TiO2 NPs at 30 mg/kg showed more severe adverse effects. Conclusion: Our results showed that under a low dose (5 mg/kg), both NP types had no significant toxicity in rats. Janus NPs certainly seem less toxic than TiO2 NPs in rats at 30 mg/kg. To ensure safe use of these newly developed Janus NPs in cancer diagnosis and therapy, further animal studies are needed to evaluate long-term bioeffects. AIM OF THE STUDY: This study was conducted to document the ethnoveterinary medicinal (EVM) practices for the treatment of different parasitic diseases of livestock in Cholistan desert, Pakistan. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An initial reconnaissance survey (rapid rural appraisal) among the local shepherds was conducted to identify the traditional healers. Information was collected from the traditional healers using a well-structured questionnaire through open-ended interviews and guided dialogue technique. RESULTS: The parasitic diseases reported in livestock were: tick and lice infestation, mange, myiasis and helminthiasis. A total of 77 ethnoveterinary practices comprising of 49 based on plant usage and 28 based on dairy products, chemicals and other organic matter were documented. A total of 18 plant species representing 14 families were documented to treat the parasitic diseases. The plants included: Aerva javanica (Amaranthaceae), Aizoon carariense (Aizoaceae), Azadirachta indica (Meliaceae), Brassica campestris (Cruciferae), Capparis decidua (Capparaceae), Capsicum annuum (Solanaceae), Citrullus colocynthis (Cucurbitaceae), Cyperus rotundus (Cyperaceae), Calligonum polygonoides (Polygonaceae), Eruca sativa (Cruciferae), Ferula assafoetida (Umbelliferae), Haloxylon salicornicum (Chenopodiaceae), Mallotus philippinensis (Euphorbiaceae), Nicotiana tabacum (Solanaceae), Pinus roxburghii (Pinaceae), Salsola baryosma (Chenopodiaceae), Solanum surratens (Solanaceae) and Zingiber officinale (Zingiberaceae). CONCLUSION: The EVM practices documented in this study need to be validated using standard parasitological procedures. Issues that should be addressed are efficacy (vis-à-vis claims made by the respondents), quality, safety and standardization of doses. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Photothermal therapy (PTT) is a promising technology that can achieve the thermal ablation of tumors and induce immunogenic cell death (ICD). However, relying solely on the antitumor immune responses caused by PTT-induced ICD is insufficient to suppress tumor metastasis and recurrence effectively. Fortunately, multifunctional nanoformulation-based synergistic photothermal immunotherapy can eliminate primary and metastatic tumors and inhibit tumor recurrence for a long time. Herein, we select polydopamine (PDA) nanoparticles to serve as the carrier for our nanomedicine as well as a potent photothermal agent and modulator of macrophage polarization. PDA nanoparticles are loaded with the insoluble immune adjuvant Imiquimod (R837) to construct PDA(R837) nanoformulations. These straightforward yet highly effective nanoformulations demonstrate excellent performance, allowing for successful triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) treatment through synergistic photothermal immunotherapy. Moreover, experimental results showed that PDA(R837) implementation of PTT is effective in the thermal ablation of primary tumors while causing ICD and releasing R837, further promoting dendritic cell (DC) maturation and activating the systemic antitumor immune response. Furthermore, PDA(R837) nanoformulations inhibit tumor metastasis and recurrence and achieve M1 phenotype macrophage polarization, achieving long-term and excellent antitumor efficacy. Therefore, the structurally simple PDA(R837) nanoformulations provide cancer treatment and have excellent clinical translational application prospects.

Co-creation is the active involvement of all stakeholders, including students, in educational design processes to improve the quality of education by embodying inclusivity, transparency and empowerment. Virtual co-creation has the potential to expand the utility of co-creation as an inclusive approach by overcoming challenges regarding the practicality and availability of stakeholders, typically experienced in face-to-face co-creation. Drawing from the literature and our experiences of virtual co-creation activities in different educational contexts, this twelve tips paper provides guidelines on how to effectively operationalize co-creation in a virtual setting. Our proposed three-phased approach (preparation, conduction, follow-up) might help those aiming to virtually co-create courses and programs by involving stakeholders beyond institutes and across borders.

Global mortality data indicates cancer as the second-leading cause of death worldwide. Therefore, there's a pressing need to innovate effective treatments to address this significant medical and societal challenge. In recent years, X-ray-induced photodynamic therapy (X-PDT) has emerged as a promising advancement, revolutionizing traditional photodynamic therapy (PDT) for deeply entrenched malignancies by harnessing penetrating X-rays as external stimuli. Recent developments in X-ray photodynamic therapy have shown a trend toward minimizing radiation doses to remarkably low levels after the proof-of-concept demonstration. Early detection and real-time monitoring are crucial aspects of effective cancer treatment. Sophisticated X-ray imaging techniques have been enhanced by the introduction of X-ray luminescence nano-agents, alongside contrast nanomaterials based on X-ray attenuation. X-ray luminescence-based in vivo imaging offers excellent detection sensitivity and superior image quality in deep tissues at a reasonable cost, due to unhindered penetration and unimpeded auto-fluorescence of X-rays. This review emphasizes the significance of X-ray responsive theranostics, exploring their mechanism of action, feasibility, biocompatibility, and promising prospects in imaging-guided therapy for deep-seated tumors. This investigation presents the synthesis of butyl-decorated calix[ n ]phenoxazines of varying sizes by kinetic control and the ring-expansion of calix[3]phenoxazine, which uniquely exhibits distinct binding affinities for fullerenes C 60 and C 70 . Calix[3]phenoxazine demonstrates a higher binding affinity for cationic ammonium, which can be reversibly deprotonated and protonated, enabling the reversible release and reloading of fullerenes. This system holds potential for applications in fullerene extraction and separation.

Rationale: The integration of evidence-based practice (EBP) into rehabilitation education programs has been widespread, but little is known about how graduates' EBP competencies evolve over time., Aims and Objectives: To explore how and why the use of EBP by occupational therapists (OTs) and physical therapists (PTs) evolves during the first 3 years of clinical practice., Method: We used an interpretive description methodology. We conducted semi-structured interviews with OTs and PTs who participated in a minimum of three out of four time points in a previous longitudinal pan-Canadian mixed methods study. Data analysis was guided by Braun and Clarke's approach to thematic analysis., Results: Seventeen clinicians (13 OTs and 4 PTs) participated in the study. Our analysis identified six overarching themes: (1) evolution of "what EBP is and what it means"; (2) over time, evidence takes a back seat; (3) patients and colleagues have a vital and perennial role in clinical decision making; (4) continuing professional development plays a vital role in EBP; (5) personal attitudes and attributes influence EBP; and (6) organizational factors influence EBP., Conclusion: Our study highlights the dynamic nature of EBP use among OTs and PTs in the first 3 years of clinical practice, emphasizing the need for contextualized approaches and ongoing support to promote evidence-informed healthcare in rehabilitation., (© 2024 The Author(s).
