The current stage of development of processes and technologies requires continuous improvement of computer hardware performance, efficient use of its resources, processing of large amounts of data and support of the growing requirements of modern information systems. When processing large amounts of data, it is often necessary to use additional effective solutions to speed up information processing in addition to parallel computing. One such approach is to use the SIMD mechanism. The concept of SIMD instructions is a progressive solution for speeding up computations in tasks with large amounts of data, due to the ability to perform one operation on several data simultaneously. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of using SIMD instructions to improve the performance of software code execution when processing large data sets compared to traditional software tools. The paper solves the following tasks: develop an algorithm for implementing the classical task of multiplying ultra-large (up to 36×106 bytes) square data matrices using the built-in Microsoft Visual Studio ISO/IEC C++20 library with SIMD technology to parallelise the program at the data level; study the performance of the developed algorithm when processing a significant amount of data compared to the traditional approach. By implementing a modified matrix multiplication algorithm using SIMD technology, it was possible to speed up the computation on a PC with an Intel Core i7-12700H processor by 4.8 times with a data volume of ~9×106 bytes. The human brain supports social cognitive functions, including Theory of Mind, empathy, and compassion, through its intrinsic hierarchical organization. However, it remains unclear how the learning and refinement of social skills shapes brain function and structure. We studied if different types of social mental training induce changes in cortical function and microstructure, investigating 332 healthy adults (197 women, 20–55 years) with repeated multimodal neuroimaging and behavioral testing. Our neuroimaging approach examined longitudinal changes in cortical functional gradients and myelin-sensitive T1 relaxometry, two complementary measures of cortical hierarchical organization. We observed marked changes in intrinsic cortical function and microstructure, which varied as a function of social training content. In particular, cortical function and microstructure changed as a result of attention-mindfulness and socio-cognitive training in regions functionally associated with attention and interoception, including insular and parietal cortices. Conversely, socio-affective and socio-cognitive training resulted in differential microstructural changes in regions classically implicated in interoceptive and emotional processing, including insular and orbitofrontal areas, but did not result in functional reorganization. Notably, longitudinal changes in cortical function and microstructure predicted behavioral change in attention, compassion and perspective-taking. Our work demonstrates functional and microstructural plasticity after the training of social-interoceptive functions, and illustrates the bidirectional relationship between brain organisation and human social skills.

Widespread application of supercomputer technologies in various spheres of life, as well as the need of high-performance calculations allows us to speak about the relevance of the problem of increasing the performance of computer codes on supercomputers of modern architectures. Vectorization of program code is a low-level optimization that can, with a relatively local and compact application, increase the productivity of computational codes by several times. Modern Intel microprocessors have support for a unique set of instructions AVX-512, which, due to its features, allows you to vectorize almost any kind of code written in a predicate form. A set of simple restrictions when developing programs along with vectorization tools to enable the use of the AVX-512 instruction set can significantly speed up the resulting program. The article discusses approaches to vectorization of flat loops—a special-purpose program context, the successful vectorization of which allows to increase the productivity of supercomputer applications even for such program code for which optimizing compilers are powerless. Abstract In this paper, we introduce a class of bivariate means generated by an integral of a continuous increasing function on ( 0 , + ∞ ) $(0,+\infty)$ . This class of means widens the spectrum of possible means and leads to many easy and interesting mean-inequalities. We show that this class of means characterizes the large class of homogeneous symmetric monotone means.

Background In cases of high ulnar nerve palsy, result of nerve repair in term of intrinsic muscle recovery is unsatisfactory. Distal nerve transfer can diminish the regeneration time and improve the results. But, there was no perfect distal nerve transfer for restoring intrinsic hand function in combined proximal median and ulnar nerve injuries. This cadaveric study aims to evaluate the possibility and feasibility of supinator nerve transfer to motor branch of ulnar nerve (MUN). Methods Ten cadaveric upper limbs dissected to identify the location of the supinator branch, anterior interosseous nerve (AIN), and MUN. The AIN was cut from its origin and transferred to the supinator branches. Also, the AIN was distally cut and transferred to the MUN. After nerve coaptation, surface area, fascicle count, and axon number were determined by histologic methods. Results In all limbs, the proximal and distal stumps of AIN reached the supinator branch and the MUN without tension, respectively. The mean of axon number in the supinator, proximal stump of AIN, distal stump of AIN and MUN branches were 32,426, 45,542, 25,288, and 35,426, respectively. Conclusions This study showed that transfer of the supinator branches to the MUN is possible via the in situ AIN bridge. The axon count data showed a favorable match between the supinator branches, AIN, and MUN. Therefore, it is suggested that this technique can be useful for patients with combined high median and ulnar nerve injuries. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background The outcomes of treating severe wrist injuries are not well understood and despite their complexity and prevalence, particularly among young adults, spaghetti wrist is rarely investigated. The aim of this study is to evaluate the postsurgery, functional outcome of spaghetti wrist injuries. Material and Methods In this prospective cross-sectional study, 153 patients with spaghetti wrist injuries were followed up for approximately 20 months and were assessed regarding returning to work and postsurgical functional outcomes that included tendon functionality, opposition, intrinsic function, deformity, sensation, and grip strength. Results Themean age was 28.3 5 years. The most common cause of injury was glass window panes and bottles. Moreover, the most commonly involved structures were the tendons of flexor digitorum superficialis 3, 4, and 5. During the follow-up, the tendon functionality in 120 (78%), opposition in 115 (75.1%), and intrinsic function in 62 (40.5%) were “excellent.” Hand sensation was “fair” in 75 patients (49.1%), “good” in 46 patients (30%), and “excellent” in 28 patients (18.3%). The average return time to activities of daily living was 10 months. Conclusion In this study, worse outcomes were seen in older patients and those with higher number of damaged structures (especially nerves). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A distal median to ulnar nerve transfer for timely restoration of critical intrinsic muscle function is possible in isolated ulnar nerve injuries but not for combined ulnar and median nerve injuries. We used a distal nerve transfer to restore ulnar intrinsic function in the case of a proximal combined median and ulnar nerve injury. Transfer of the nonessential radial nerve branches to the abductor pollicis longus, extensor pollicis brevis, and extensor indicis proprius to the motor branch of the ulnar nerve was performed in a direct end-to-end fashion via an interosseous tunnel. This method safely and effectively restored intrinsic function before terminal muscle degeneration. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
