Fukushima Medical University (FMU) organizes annual International Symposiums on the Fukushima Health Management Survey (FHMS) to share up-to-date Survey findings.　In response to radiation released from the Tokyo Electric Power Company's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant after the Great East Japan Earthquake, the FHMS was established with the aim of providing long-term follow-up for the physical and mental health of Fukushima residents, and maintaining and improving their health into the future.　This year, the sixth annual symposium was convened in Tokyo on Saturday, March 2, 2024, with the theme, "3.11:Sharing Lessons of Fukushima with Japan and the World."

The year of 2021 was remembered as the centenary of the death of Max Dvořák, one of the leading figures of the Vienna School of Art History. The branch of Austrian monument protection represented a lesser-known field of his professional career. This extended report gives an overview of the international online symposium organized by the Monuments Board of the Slovak Republic.

The article represents a brief report on the work of the International Symposium: «Scientific School of L.S. Vygotsky: Traditions and Innovations» and VI th International ISCAR Summer University for PhD Students and young scholars, that were held in Moscow State University of Psychology & Education on June, 28 — July, 3 in 2016 in commemoration of the 120th anniversary of the great Russian psychologist L.S. Vygotsky. The main goals of the events organised by MSUPE include: analysis of the basic principles and the system of concepts of L.S. Vygotsky’s scientific school, discussion of the current state and the prospect for the development of the cultural-historical theory in Russia and abroad, integration of the ideas of the cultural-historical psychology and activity approach in various kinds of social and educational practices, as well as conducting research in the international scientific space. Symposium gathered the world’s leading experts and young scholars in the field of cultural-historical theory and activity approach from 19 countries, including United Kingdom, Australia, Switzerland, Greece, Brasil and USA.

A symposium on pattern identification (PI) was held at the Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine (KIOM) on October 2, 2013, in Daejeon, South Korea. This symposium was convened to provide information on the current research in PI as well as suggest future research directions. The participants discussed the nature of PI, possible research questions, strategies and future international collaborations in pattern research. With eight presentations and an extensive panel discussion, the symposium allowed participants to discuss research methods in traditional medicine for PI. One speaker presented the topic, 'Clinical pattern differentiation and contemporary research in PI.' Two speakers presented current trends in research on blood stasis while the remaining five other delegates discussed the research methods and future directions of PI research. The participants engaged in in-depth discussions regarding the nature of PI, potential research questions, strategies and future international collaborations in pattern research. An international brainstorming session on standardizing pattern identification (PI) was held at the Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine on October 1, 2013 in Daejeon, South Korea. This brainstorming session was convened to gather insights from international traditional East Asian medicine specialists regarding PI standardization. With eight presentations and discussion sessions, the meeting allowed participants to discuss research methods and diagnostic systems used in traditional medicine for PI. One speaker presented a talk titled "The diagnostic criteria for blood stasis syndrome: implications for standardization of PI". Four speakers presented on future strategies and objective measurement tools that could be used in PI research. Later, participants shared information and methodology for accurate diagnosis and PI. The 3rd International Symposium on the Effects of Climate Change on the World's Oceans was held in Santos, Brazil, in March 2015, convened by the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES), the North Pacific Marine Science Organization (PICES), and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC), and organized locally by the Oceanographic Institute, University of Sao Paulo (IO-USP). The symposium was designed to do two things. First, to get updates on new scientific developments that would address recognized uncertainties that remained from Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Fifth Assessment Report and to contribute to building bridges between research in the natural and social sciences in respect to the human dimensions of climate change, with a focus on coastal communities, management objectives, governance and adaptation measures. The choice of the venue in Santos, Brazil, was aimed to stimulate and widen this thematic discussion in Latin America and southern Atlantic regions, where there still are important knowledge gaps and scientific, politic and societal challenges to be overcome. The meeting was attended by 280 participants from 38 countries, contributing 336 oral and poster presentations. Yuanmingyuan is a very important cultural heritage site in Beijing, China. In order to improve the conservation of Yuanmingyuan Site and increase communication between the cultural heritage site and the public, especially the teenagers, our institute initiated a serial of education programs in the past two years, cooperating with local schools, including courses on the base of school curriculums, independent cultural heritage summer camp, and special sessions in international cultural heritage symposium. On 23 and 24 May 2014 in Old School, Mirkovec (municipality St. Krizh, Zacretje, Croatia) an international symposium on "Modern medical views on trisomy 21 and autism" was held. It was organized by the association "Trisomy 21" from Zagreb, under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Croatia, the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs and the Mayor of the municipality Krapinsko-Zagorska. The symposium is a result of many years of experience working with children with Down syndrome and their parents in order to increase the level of awareness and knowledge that will contribute to better and healthier way of life of people with Down syndrome. The symposium was attended by a number of internationally recognized professionals and parents of children with Down syndrome. The first day of the symposium there were a number of interesting and relevant topics. Prof. Dr. Drazenka Blazi from the Republic of Croatia talked about early communication of children with Down syndrome and autism - similarities and differences, opportunities and constraints; Prof. Dr. Vladimir Gruden had an excellent presentation on "autogenous training"; Doc. Dr. Lovrecic from Slovenia informed about the latest approaches and technologies in the genetic diagnosis of trisomy 21 and autism.

Overview of the Sixth International Symposium on Hodgkin's disease– recent advances in basic and clinical trials.Eur J Haematol 2005: 75 (Suppl. 66): 1–5.© Blackwell Munksgaard 2005.The Sixth International Symposium on Hodgkin's disease was held in Cologne, Germany, between September 18 and 21, 2004, organized by the German Hodgkin Study Group (GHSG) and chaired by Volker Diehl. Since 1987 the international symposia were held at regular intervals in Cologne with the aim to facilitate international cooperation and to bring together new scientific and clinical results reached in the field of Hodgkin's disease. The expanding number of participants from about 300 attendees at the first symposium to almost 800 from 48 countries at the Sixth International Symposium indicates the increasing importance of this meeting. For the second time a patient seminar with more than 350 attendees has been organized. This sixth meeting was going to be unique, since the GHSG celebrated its 25th anniversary and honored Volker Diehl, the group's founder in recognition of his work during more than 25 yr. The symposium was held at the University of Cologne's main building, creating a special, scientific and familiar atmosphere. Throughout the symposia carried out by the GHSG, preclinical and clinical several topics have always been of basic interest and have provided a basis for discussion and scientific exchange. Enormous progress has been made in understanding the etiology and therapies for arthrogryposis (multiple congenital contractures). A 2nd International Symposium on Arthrogryposis was sponsored by the Turner Institute in St. Petersburg, Russia. Olga Agranovich, Head of the Arthrogryposis Department of the Turner Institute, organized this special meeting. Care providers from multiple disciplines from all over the world representing 18 nations attended. Participants included: Pediatric orthopedic specialists, rehabilitation physicians, occupational therapists, physical therapists, medical geneticists, neurologists, craniofacial physicians, psychologists, developmental biologists, as well as representatives from parent support groups. The 1st symposium established the need for a collaborative and interdisciplinary approach to the treatment of arthrogryposis, engagement of parent support organizations, and the aim for more research. The Second Symposium highlighted the continuing need for more research on various therapies, identification of different types of arthrogryposis, standardized descriptions of severity, development of new orthotics, improved prenatal diagnosis, and studying adult outcome. The Franceville International Centre for Medical Research (CIRMF) organized a first international symposium on infectious diseases, environments, and biodiversity. Over 200 international experts gathered in Gabon to forecast and work to prevent the emergence of infectious diseases. This symposium aimed to strengthen the regional and international fight against the emergence of infectious diseases with high-level scientific debates. Toward this goal, it brought together experts in human and animal health, the environment, and ecology, including biologists, climatologists, microbiologists, epidemiologists, public health professionals, and human and social sciences specialists. National, regional and international participants were present to debate on the challenges related to the emergence of infectious diseases and on the responses to be implemented. The symposium was very successful, and plans for a second symposium of this kind to be held in the near future in another high-biodiversity area are already underway. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
