The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) is the framework for describing disability. The aim of the study was to compare differences in health status between the populations of the Podkarpackie region of Poland and the Castilla y León region of Spain, using the ICF core set for post-acute musculoskeletal conditions. A total of 840 people were included in the study. The brief version of ICF core set for post-acute musculoskeletal conditions was used in the study. Information obtained from semi-structured interviews and a physiotherapy assessment was recoded into ICF qualifiers to obtain comparable data. Significant differences in functioning were found between the two samples, with a higher prevalence in all the ICF entities for the Spanish sample. Similarities were found in the ICF components 'Body Functions' and 'Environmental Factors', with the most prevalent ICF entities being 'b280 Sensation of pain' and 'e225 Climate' respectively. For 'Activities and Participation', differences were observed, with 'd430 Lifting and carrying objects' being the most common for the Spanish sample and 'd450 Walking' for the Polish sample. Significant differences were found between the two samples, indicating better musculoskeletal health in the Polish sample. Future research using the ICF Core Sets in practice should be expanded and carried out in other countries to improve the ability to make comparisons between populations and to develop policies for territorial equity in health. Objective: To evaluate the Québec Audiological Assessment Protocol for Younger and Older Adults (QAAP-YOA) and its accompanying clinical tool efficacy to assess the needs of individuals with hearing loss in a simulated context. This study is the Phase 2 in the development of the QAAP-YOA. Design: Participants completed two needs assessments with simulated clients and wrote audiological reports, while applying the QAAP-YOA with and without the use of its clinical tool. Interviews were filmed, and reports collected. Both were scored by two independent evaluators. A qualitative analysis of reports was also conducted. Study sample: Eleven audiology students and four early-career audiologists (n = 15). Results: The clinical tool did not influence the interview process since both experimental conditions had similar compliance rates to the protocol (p = 0.114). Compliance rates for assessment reports were higher with the clinical tool (p < 0.001). Participants' conclusions after applying the QAAP-YOA were consistent across participants. The information provided in the reports was more comprehensive and coherent with the client's needs when participants used the clinical tool. Conclusions: The QAAP-YOA can lead to a greater standardisation of needs assessments and to more comprehensive reports, which may lead to intervention programs more closely aligned with clients' needs. Introduction: Tinnitus is a common phenomenon with an estimated prevalence of 14.4% in the adult population. The experienced severity of tinnitus varies significantly among this population. Psychological factors have been identified as major contributors to this perceived severity, and numerous studies have demonstrated a correlation between symptoms of depression and tinnitus severity. However, the assessment of tinnitus severity and depressive symptoms often relies on self-report questionnaires, which show content overlap. This can pose challenges in distinguishing both conditions and interpreting their relationship. To address these challenges, the proposed study aims to examine the overlap between tinnitus and depressive symptom questionnaires by analyzing their content based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) framework. Methods and analysis: Six validated, multi-item, self-report questionnaires measuring perceived tinnitus severity (THI, TQ, mTQ, THQ, TRQ, TFI) and seven validated, multi-item, self-report, depressive symptom questionnaires (BDI-II, HADS-D, SDS, PHQ-9, CES-D, SCL-90-R depression subscale, DASS-42 depression subscale) will be included in the content analysis. The content of all items of these questionnaires will be linked to ICF categories and item overlap between the tinnitus and depressive symptom questionnaires will be analyzed. Discussion: By exploring the overlap between depression and tinnitus questionnaires, this study seeks to gain a better understanding of the relationship between tinnitus and depression, by distinguishing between shared content and independent constructs of symptom scores and shedding light on the factors influencing their measured severity. Functioning is a construct capturing how an individual's engagement in everyday life emerges from the interaction between the individual and their environment. The World Health Organization's International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) provides a biopsychosocial framework of functioning. Previously, the ICF was adapted for use in autism by developing Core Sets, a selection of ICF codes from the entire classification for specific conditions. Here, we present the first revision of the ICF of the Core sets for autism from a Delphi-like technique, based on evidence from Core Sets validation/linking studies, stakeholder feedback, and the development and piloting of the autism ICF Core Sets platform. Two ICF second-level codes were removed, and 12 were added to the comprehensive autism Core Set. The added codes reflect body functions in various sensory domains, fine hand use, and environmental factors. Changes were extensive for the age-appropriate brief Core Sets where ICF codes from the initial Core Sets were added or removed. The revisions conducted indicate a continued need for regularly updating Core Sets, based on empirical evidence and stakeholder involvement. We recommend the updated Core Sets for future use in autism research and practice in different age groups and contexts. Autistic people experience individual strengths and challenges as well as barriers and facilitators in their environment. All of these factors contribute to how well autistic people can cope in everyday life, fulfill the roles they choose, and meet their needs. The World Health Organization has developed a system aiming to capture the many factors within people (like how someone thinks and feels) and outside of people (things around a person) that influence their daily living, called the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health. The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health can be used for different purposes in research and practice to assess people's situations and plan support measures. Previously in 2019, the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health was adapted to autism by developing so-called Core Sets, which are shorter International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health versions for use in specific conditions. Here, we present the first revisions of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health Core Sets for autism, based on research, development results, and community feedback. Some factors influencing daily life for autistic people were added to the Core Sets, and other factors deemed less relevant were removed. Changes were also made in Core Sets designed for different age groups (0–5, 6–16, and ⩾17 years). Particularly, contents for sensory processing (like smell, touch, seeing, hearing) were added. We recommend these updated Core Sets for future use in autism research and practice. Objectives: This scoping review allows a better understanding of current evidence regarding mirror therapy (MT) among children to help the future development of MT intervention protocol on children. Methods: PubMed, Science-Direct, Web of Science and ProQuest databases were searched from January 2005 to January 2023 for interventions within the scope of MT for children. Google Scholar was also scanned for additional resources. The process of the present study was according to guidelines of the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses extension for scoping reviews. The main inclusion criteria were articles in English and Persian language and peer-reviewed empirical studies of MT for children. This study charted methodological information from articles according to participant characteristics, design, intervention, and outcome measures. Results: Of 18 studies that were included in this scoping review, 17 studies were conducted in children with hemiplegic cerebral palsy, and only two studies were in other conditions. A total of 16 articles were randomized controlled clinical trials, one case study and one single subject. Meanwhile, 33 outcomes were in the body structures (BS) and functions level, and 10 outcome measures were in the activities and participation levels of the International classification of functioning. Discussion: The review indicates that in future studies, it is necessary to pay more attention to other disorders beyond hemiplegic cerebral palsy; furthermore, levels of activity and participation as the outcome need to be used more.

Background: Cerebral palsy is one of the most prevalent physical disabilities in childhood. Children afflicted with this condition face a myriad of challenges and potential disabilities, which complicate treatment efforts. Integrating scales with other diagnostic instruments is increasingly crucial for accurately assessing these children and devising effective treatment strategies. This study primarily aims to review functional classification systems based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF) for children with cerebral palsy and explore the relationships among these systems.methods: This study was designed to review the ICF-based functional classification systems. A comprehensive search was conducted across multiple databases, including Google Scholar, PubMed, ERIC, OVID, ProQuest, Scopus, Web of Knowledge, and OTseeker. Search terms related to cerebral palsy and various aspects of body function, activity, and participation were utilized. The search was conducted until September 2022 to gather relevant literature for analysis.Results: The analysis of the reviewed articles revealed the existence of five valid and reliable classification systems. In most studies, the correlation among these systems was moderate. Owing to their simplicity and comprehensiveness, these classification systems have significantly impacted the depiction of the functional status of children with cerebral palsy and the quality of their care. However, additional classification systems remain needed to address other overlooked functions and complete the overall description.Conclusion: The outcomes of this review indicated the development of classification systems for certain functions in children with cerebral palsy. In conjunction with the classifications above, creating additional new systems for overlooked functions could offer a comprehensive and integrated understanding of children with cerebral palsy's crucial functional capacities and performances.

Abstract Background Multimorbidity is increasingly prevalent among ageing patients, leading to reduced daily functioning. To address the challenges posed by multimorbidity in older adults, a person- and context-centred approach is needed. This study aimed to develop a questionnaire as a self-assessment tool for older adults focusing on functioning in general practice based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). Methods A mixed-methods approach was employed in the development and validation of the German EFA23 (Erfassung Funktionaler Gesundheit im Alter – 23 Fragen; Assessing Functional Health in Old Age – 23 questions) questionnaire. Based on an ICF subset developed in a preparatory phase and consensus study, questionnaire items were formulated and tested in a qualitative pretest, followed by a validation study. A workshop with general practitioners (GPs) was held to develop a supplementary manual for GPs on how to interpret the questionnaire results and discuss them with the patients. Results A total of 69 items were developed and tested in the qualitative pretest with 15 respondents, resulting in 37 items for the validation study. The validation study, involving 237 older adults, showed the presence of one significant principal component. It demonstrated good internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.967) and construct validity, showing positive correlations with established assessment tools. Descriptive statistics showed differences between the means of self-assessment by patients and an external GP assessment. The final EFA23 questionnaire consists of 23 items assessing limitations in functioning. Conclusions The EFA23 questionnaire can be used as a valid self-assessment instrument to measure functioning in older adults, supporting a person- and context-centred approach in general practice.

The Ukrainian system of medical and social expertise needs to revise its conceptual and methodological foundations in accordance with the realities of the current development of social sciences in the world and demand of the state regarding the modern understanding of disability. The purpose of the study was to analyze international experience and legislation on policy towards persons with disabilities and systematic approaches to the criteria of violation of functioning and the possibilities of determining the status of "person with disabilities" using the basic principles of the International Classification of Functioning (ICF), Impairment and Health to create optimal approaches to determining the criteria for disability in Ukraine. The study was based on the analysis of available scientific literature and legislative documents of developed countries on the understanding of the concept of "person with a disability". The scientometric databases used were Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar, and MedLine. Data from the official websites of the Political Department of the European Parliament, WHO, the United Nations, UNICEF, the World Bank. Аccording to the results of the study, it is determined that a single state body is responsible for determining the status of a person with a disability in sustainable development countries using a multidisciplinary approach. The author identifies 3 main components that most developed countries assess when determining disability: economic, medical and social. At the same time, the main criterion is decreased performance. It has been established that since 2022, Spain has completely switched to the criteria of the International Classification of Functioning in determining the signs of disability, basing the severity of a person's condition as a degree of disability on a percentage decrease in the person's functioning. Some European countries use selective categories of the ICF.

Purpose: Over 240 million children worldwide experience inequities due to disablement/disability. Play is important for children's global development, to enable participation in life, and has been used in therapeutic settings. The purpose of this systematic review is to determine the effectiveness of play used in therapy for children with disabilities, to explore ways that play is used in therapy, and to classify and map outcome measures used in play-based interventions to the International Classification of Functioning. Methods: A systematic review was conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Results: The search yielded 22 articles eligible for inclusion. A meta-analysis found significant heterogeneity for play-based intervention outcomes, precluding estimates of effectiveness. Body function and structure outcomes accounted for 61% of reported outcome measures. Conclusion: There is a trend towards a small positive effect of play used in therapy for children with disabilities, but certainty of the effect is poor, and replication difficult due to heterogeneous reports of how play is used. Research aims and outcome measures focusing on meaningful aspects of activity and participation in addition to body function and structure domains of the International Classification of Functioning should be considered for play-based interventions for children with disabilities. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION: Play-based interventions trend towards a positive effect on ICF outcomes, but the certainty of effect is limited. Play is used in diverse ways making it a versatile method to promote engagement or deliver therapy to a wide variety of children with disabilities. Play-based studies measuring outcomes solely related to body function and structure domains of the ICF may not capture the broader holistic benefits of play. Abstract\nIMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONIntroduction: We conducted a twenty-year bibliometric analysis of scientific literature, focusing on the trends of The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) use in health research.Methods: We retrieved 3’467 documents published between 2002 and 2022, sourced from the Web of Science Core Collection database. We used the Bibliometrix and VoSviewer tools for descriptive analyses and data visualization.Results: Our findings indicate a significant increase in ICF application since 2011, with an average annual growth rate of 13.19%. Prominent contributions were observed globally, with notable outputs from the U.S., Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. The Ludwig Maximilian University Munich, Swiss Paraplegic Research, and McMaster University authored a quarter of the documents (24.6%). Collaboration networks of countries and institutions revealed robust partnerships, particularly between Germany and Switzerland. "Rehabilitation" was the most frequently occurring keyword, although a thematic shift towards epidemiology, aging, and health-related quality of life was observed post-2020. While rehabilitation remained the primary thematic focus, literature post-2020 highlighted epidemiology as a growing area of interest.Conclusions: A steady increase in ICF-based research mirrors the rising interest in a biopsychosocial and person-centered approach to healthcare. Cerebellar impairment (CI) manifests from different etiologies resulting in a heterogenic clinical presentation affecting walking and mobility. Case-reports were reviewed to provide an analytical clinical picture of persons with CI (PwCI) to differentiate cerebellar and non-cerebellar impairments and to identify interventions and assessments used to quantify impact on walking and mobility according to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). Literature was searched in PubMed, Web Of Science and Scopus. Case-reports conducting physical rehabilitation and reporting at least one outcome measure of ataxia, gait pattern, walking or mobility were included. 28 articles with a total of 38 different patients were included. Etiologies were clustered to: spinocerebellar degenerations, traumatic brain injuries, cerebellar tumors, stroke and miscellaneous. The interventions applied were activity-based, including gait and balance training. Participation based activities such as tai chi, climbing and dance-based therapy had positive outcomes on mobility. Outcomes on body function such as ataxia and gait pattern were only reported in 22% of the patients. A comprehensive test battery to encompass the key features of a PwCI on different levels of the ICF is needed to manage heterogeneity. Measures on body function level should be included in interventions. This review reports on 38 cerebellar cases from 14 different aetiologies. Distinguishing cerebellar and non-cerebellar symptoms and categorising patients within the three cerebellar syndromes can assist with heterogeneity. Reporting of assessment on the body function level of ICF in terms of ataxia and gait pattern was only present in a minority of reports and thus increased reporting is encouraged. To validate the comprehensive ICF core set for post-acute musculoskeletal conditions from the perspective of patients in a primary care physiotherapy setting. A qualitative study was conducted with patients suffering from musculoskeletal problems. A phenomenological approach based on focus groups was used to identify the most relevant aspects related to physical therapy care in their condition. The data were analyzed using a meaning condensation procedure, identifying relevant themes and concepts. The identified concepts were linked to the ICF and compared to the ICF core set for post-acute musculoskeletal conditions. Forty-three patients were included in eight focus groups. A total of 1281 relevant concepts were extracted and related to 156 ICF second-level entities. Entities in the ICF core set for post-acute musculoskeletal conditions were 95.7% confirmed. Eighty-nine additional second-level ICF entities were identified. Entities in the ICF core set for post-acute musculoskeletal conditions are relevant to patients seen in primary care physical therapy units. However, there are areas of functioning related to community health care not covered by this ICF-based tool. An ICF-based framework is feasible for the assessment of musculoskeletal conditions. Post-acute musculoskeletal ICF core set was confirmed in patient focus groups. Additional ICF categories emerged for a primary care physical therapy setting. Background: Multiple sclerosis (MS) affects many body functions and activities, including work capacity and ability to work. An evaluation of work-related parameters is important to understand the barriers to maintaining the job. The aim of this study was to evaluate if a Comprehensive International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) core set for MS can be used to predict work capacity and employment status. Methods: The cohort included 151 participants with MS (99 female/52 male, mean age 49 years) referred for a work capacity evaluation. Results: 71 (47.0%) were employed and a major part (131, 86.7%) had a work capacity between 20 and 40% with no difference between those who were employed and those who were unemployed. The analysis revealed that age and the following categories explained 68.8% of the work capacity: b770 Gait pattern functions; b730 Muscle power functions; b134 Sleep functions; d845 Acquiring, keeping and terminating a job; and b620 Urination functions. The following categories in 79.5% predicted ability to work: b164 Higher-level cognitive functions; d510 Washing oneself; d630; Preparing meals; and d870 Economic self-sufficiency. Conclusions: Here, we show that different functions/activities predicted work capacity in comparison with employment status in MS. Therefore, ICF should be implemented when assessing work ability. To analyze the clinical profile and functional classification of the population with physical and/or sensory disabilities in the municipalities of Marajó using the International Classification of Diseases and International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health. This descriptive, exploratory study was carried out in all Marajó municipalities. The prevalence of disabilities acquired after birth involving diseases of the nervous system and impairment of the lower and upper extremities of the body was verified. Deficiency in joint mobility, strength, and tonus were the most affected body functions, which impacted mobility and self-care activities, as well as interpersonal relationships with healthcare professionals and immediate family, representing a social barrier. Thus, based on the results found, the influence of social, educational, economic, and geographical contexts on the clinical condition and functional performance of people with disabilities is understood. 1) to map questions of pain from a survey to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) 2) to compare the impact of musculoskeletal pain on functioning based on the different components of the ICF in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) and age-matched peers. A cross-sectional case-control survey. A total of 28 children with JIA and 36 age-matched children participated. The survey included questions on the child's sex and age, about pain experienced, number of painful body areas, pain frequency and three short forms of Patient-Reported Outcome Measurement Information System (PROMIS) pain questionnaires. Sixteen children with JIA (57%) and 10 peers (28%) reported pain during past seven days. Their responses were used in the description of impact of pain. After the mapping of the questions to ICF, a comparison between the two groups indicated that a higher number of children with JIA described effects of pain on mental function, mobility, general tasks and demands, than their peers. More children with JIA expressed to others that they had pain, non-verbally and verbally. Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by deficits in motor skills, with gross and fine motor dysfunction being the main symptom. This condition greatly impairs children's daily life, learning, and social interaction. Symptoms typically appear during preschool or school age, and if left untreated, they can persist into adulthood. Thus, early assessment and intervention are crucial to improve the prognosis. This study aims to review the existing literature on DCD, providing a comprehensive overview of the assessment for children with DCD in terms of body functions and structures, activities and participation, and environmental factors within the framework of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health - Children and Youth (ICF-CY). We established the most commonly used clinician and patient-reported hip fracture outcome measures as of 2022, assessed their content validity using an International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) framework, and operationalized these results to contribute to an updated hip fracture core set. A literature search was conducted to identify articles utilizing outcome measures related to hip fracture. A total of five outcome measures were identified, linked to the ICF, and assessed for content validity via bandwidth percent, content density, and content diversity. Outcome measures were linked to 191 ICF codes, most of which were associated with Activities and Participation. Notably, no outcome measure contained concepts linked to Personal Factors and Environmental Factors were underrepresented across all outcome measures. The modified Harris Hip Score had the highest content diversity (0.67), the Hip Disability and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score had the highest bandwidth of ICF content coverage (2.48), and the Oxford Hip Score had the highest content density (2.92). These results clarify the clinical applicability of outcome measures and guide development of hip fracture outcomes that allow providers to assess the complex role of social, environmental, and personal factors in patient rehabilitation. Hip fracture is a complex and disabling pathology predominantly affecting older adults and represents a public health problem. There are a variety of outcome measures used to assess a patient's recovery following a hip fracture, each with distinctive objectives and modes of administration. Content validity metrics associated with the Harris Hip Score suggest it would be a suitable outcome measure during early-stage recovery, whereas the modified Harris Hip Score may be more suitable for tracking long-term recovery tracking. Choosing an outcome measure most appropriate for a hip fracture patient is an individualized decision that must consider aspects such as age, activity level, needs, and environmental factors. Psychological factors have been identified as major contributors to this perceived severity, and numerous studies have demonstrated a correlation between symptoms of depression and tinnitus severity. However, the assessment of tinnitus severity and depressive symptoms often relies on self-report questionnaires, which show content overlap. This can pose challenges in distinguishing both conditions and interpreting their relationship. To address these challenges, the proposed study aims to examine the overlap between tinnitus and depressive symptom questionnaires by analyzing their content based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) framework.Methods and analysisSix validated, multi-item, self-report questionnaires measuring perceived tinnitus severity (THI, TQ, mTQ, THQ, TRQ, TFI) and seven validated, multi-item, self-report, depressive symptom questionnaires (BDI-II, HADS-D, SDS, PHQ-9, CES-D, SCL-90-R depression subscale, DASS-42 depression subscale) will be included in the content analysis. The content of all items of these questionnaires will be linked to ICF categories and item overlap between the tinnitus and depressive symptom questionnaires will be analyzed.DiscussionBy exploring the overlap between depression and tinnitus questionnaires, this study seeks to gain a better understanding of the relationship between tinnitus and depression, by distinguishing between shared content and independent constructs of symptom scores and shedding light on the factors influencing their measured severity.Ethics and disseminationEthical approval is not required for this study, due to the characteristics of the study design. Purpose To explore brachial plexus birth injury (BPBI)-affected adults’ health-related quality of life (HRQoL) experiences informed by the theoretical framework of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health. Methods This study applied a qualitative collective case study design. Twelve participants who participated in a prior survey study were recruited using maximum variation sampling. One-on-one semi-structured interviews focused on gaining in-depth understanding of participants’ experiences with HRQoL. Interviews were recorded verbatim and thematically analysed. Results We identified two themes. First, the theme biopsychosocial dimensions of the experience comprised the ways BPBI affects physical and emotional health and how BPBI is intertwined with affected individuals’ identities, activities/participation, and social environments. Second, the theme lifelong and variable experience encompassed how BPBI is a chronic condition that changes over time and varies among affected individuals. The cross-case analysis derived a conceptual model of BPBI HRQoL to describe the BPBI experience through the lifespan. In this model, multiple dimensions of BPBI HRQoL expand through the lifespan while BPBI-specific health resources’ availability contract. Conclusions By providing insight into the many ways that BPBI affects and is affected by an individual’s functioning and personal, social, and healthcare environmental factors, these findings underscore lifelong individualized care for BPBI-affected persons is needed.

Background Cash Transfer (CT) programmes can improve maternal and child health outcomes in low- and middle-income countries. However, studies assessing the effectiveness of these programmes on maternal and child health outcomes (MCH), beyond nutritional outcomes and service utilisation, remain inconclusive. Objectives We synthesized current empirical evidence on the effectiveness of these programmes in improving MCH outcomes and suggested a framework for reporting such outcomes. We focused on sub-Saharan Africa because of substantial operational differences between regions, and the need for MCH advancement in this region. Methods This review searched PubMed Central and Google Scholar and supplemented it with a backward citation search for studies conducted in sub-Saharan Africa for the period between 2000 and 2021. Only peer-reviewed studies on CT that reported health outcomes beyond nutritional outcomes and service utilisation among women of reproductive age and children below 18 years old were included. Results Twenty-one articles reporting studies conducted in six sub-Saharan African countries were identified. All studies reported health outcome measures, and programmes targeted women of reproductive age and children under 18 years of age. Of the 21 articles, 1 reported measures of mortality, 13 reported measures of functional status; 3 reported subjective measures of well-being, and 4 reported behavioural health outcomes. Across all categories of reported measures, evidence emerges that cash transfer programmes improved some health outcomes (e.g. improved infant and child survival, reduced incidence of illnesses, improved cognitive and motor development, improved general health, delayed sexual debut, lower transactional sex, etc.), while in some of the studies, outcomes such as depression did not show significant improvements. Conclusion Cash Transfer programmes are effective and cost-effective, with a real potential to improve maternal and child health outcomes in sub-Saharan African countries. However, further research is needed to address implementation challenges, which include data collection, and programme management.

Background: Behavioral activation (BA) and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) have shown to be efficacious treatment methods for depression. Previous studies focused mostly on the outpatient treatment either in group or individual setting. The present study aimed at comparing the efficacy of group treatment BA vs. CBT, when embedded in inpatient psychosomatic rehabilitation treatment. Methods: 375 inpatients were randomly assigned to either BA (N = 174) or CBT (N = 201). We used established scales for depression such as the Beck Depression Inventory II (BDI-II, self-rating), the Quick Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology (QIDS; expert rating) and the Behavioral Activation for Depression Scale (BADS) to assess changes over the course of the treatment and at follow-up (4 to 6 months). In addition, we measured disability-related functioning with the Mini-ICF-APP, a rating scale built in reference to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). Multilevel models with repeated measures were conducted to examine the differences between groups in relation to change over time with patients' random effects. Results: Both group formats showed substantial reduction in depressive symptoms at the end of treatment (d= 0.83 BA vs. d= 1.08 CBT; BDI-II) and at follow-up after 4 to 6 months (d = 0.97 BA vs. d = 1.33 CBT, BDI-II; and d = 1.17 BA vs. d = 1.09 CBT, QIDS). There were no significant differences between treatment approaches. At least 50% symptom reduction was achieved by 53.7% and 54.2% in BA vs. CBT respectively. Reported activation levels increased from pre- to posttreatment (d = 0.76 BA vs. d = 0.70CBT), while showing loss of increment between the end of the treatment until follow up in both formats (d = 0.28 BA vs. d = 0.29 CBT). Discussion: Both modalities led to significant improvement of symptomatology and functioning at the end of the treatment and at follow-up, thus for the first time demonstrating the practicability of BA in rehabilitation clinics. Background: In the previous research, the Disability Assessment Scale based on ICF had been constructed for LTC insurance in China. To apply this scale in further studies, it is essential to establish assessment standards for disability levels. Objective: To establish standardized disability classification criteria and identify the disability statuses and levels in older people. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study, in which 1,610 older individuals in 15 long-term care institutions in China were assessed by the disability assessment scale based on ICF. Cluster analysis was used for classification of the disability levels. Mean (SD) and median (IQR) were used to describe the scores for each item and each dimension. Results: The total scores of the disability assessment scale were classified into six disability levels. The overall disability level of the 1,610 participants was moderate-to-severe. The disability in the dimension of "self-care ability and activity" was the most obvious and severe. Conclusion: The Disability Assessment Scale is capable of identifying disability statuses and levels of older people, and it can serve as a valuable tool for investigating the disabilities among old people and for conducting crossnational comparisons of disability levels. Not applicable. Physical, social, and attitudinal environment unmet needs. Relevant environmental factors (EFs) for young adults with CP were identified during focus groups in England and Portugal. EFs were mapped to the ICF environmental classification and the EAEQ analytical structure resulted from this linking procedure. It comprised 61 items, linked to 31 ICF environmental classification categories, and covered 4 of its 5 chapters. Content validity assessed with the bandwidth index (percentage coverage of ICF Core Sets for adults with CP) was satisfactory (79.3%). A descriptive analysis was carried out. Participants had a mean age of 24 years, 56% were men, 38% had severely limited mobility. Less than 16% reported unmet needs for EFs relating to home, college/work/day placement, and communication in the Products and technology chapter. Unmet needs were higher (>20%) for the other items in the Public use and Land development categories. Social support, attitudes, and understanding of relatives were often adequate to the participants' needs. The proportion of unmet needs varied by sex (women were more often concerned) and raised with increasing gross motor impairment. The EAEQ describes in detail the adequacy of the environment to the specific needs of young adults with CP. Its ICF-based structure opens up possibilities for use in a universal conceptual framework. Background: This study explores the linkage between the Measurement of Environmental Quality (MQE) and the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF). Stemming from the Human Development Model—Disability Creation Process (HDM‐DCP), MQE enhances understanding of how environmental quality impacts disability development across diverse socio‐cultural contexts. Integrating MQE with ICF expands the perspective on disability formation beyond HDM‐DCP, encompassing ICF's functioning approach. Objective: To link the MQE with the concepts and categories of the ICF. Methods: Two health professionals with adequate taxonomic knowledge of the ICF performed the initial linkage, which was based on updated standardized rules considering all hierarchical levels of the ICF. Linkage agreement between the first two assessors was measured using the Kappa (k) coefficient and respective 95% confidence intervals. In the absence of a consensus between the two assessors (k > 0.60), a third assessor was consulted to make the arbitrary decision of the final categories linked to the MQE. Results: Insufficient agreement between the two assessors was found for the linkage process (k = 0.52; p < 0.001), requiring the final decision from the third assessor. At the end of the process, 26 ICF categories were linked to the main concepts (MC) measured by the 26 items of the short version of the MQE. Ten ICF categories were linked to the additional concepts (AC) measured by the MQE. Moreover, the MQE addresses the five domains of the ICF component "environmental factors," with a predominance of the "services, systems and policies" domain (MC = 45.8% and AC = 40%). Conclusion: The linkage of the concepts measured by the MQE to ICF categories enabled mapping the content of the MQE, identifying it as a promising tool for measuring environmental factors in accordance with ICF percepts. The Ukrainian system of medical and social expertise needs to revise its conceptual and methodological foundations in accordance with the realities of the current development of social sciences in the world and demand of the state regarding the modern understanding of disability. The purpose of the study was to analyze international experience and legislation on policy towards persons with disabilities and systematic approaches to the criteria of violation of functioning and the possibilities of determining the status of "person with disabilities" using the basic principles of the International Classification of Functioning (ICF), Impairment and Health to create optimal approaches to determining the criteria for disability in Ukraine. The study was based on the analysis of available scientific literature and legislative documents of developed countries on the understanding of the concept of "person with a disability". The scientometric databases used were Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar, and MedLine. Data from the official websites of the Political Department of the European Parliament, WHO, the United Nations, UNICEF, the World Bank. According to the results of the study, it is determined that a single state body is responsible for determining the status of a person with a disability in sustainable development countries using a multidisciplinary approach. The author identifies 3 main components that most developed countries assess when determining disability: economic, medical and social. At the same time, the main criterion is decreased performance. It has been established that since 2022, Spain has completely switched to the criteria of the International Classification of Functioning in determining the signs of disability, basing the severity of a person's condition as a degree of disability on a percentage decrease in the person's functioning. To identify the main biopsychosocial factors associated with disability level after stroke using the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) model. A cross-sectional study was conducted with chronic stroke survivors. Disability was assessed using the World Health Disability Assessment Schedule 2.0. The independent variables were: Body functions: emotional functioning and whether the dominant upper limb was affected. For the Activities & Participation component, satisfaction regarding the execution of activities and participation were assessed using the SATIS-Stroke, as well as the locomotion ability for adults (ABILOCO), manual ability (ABILHAND) and the return to work. For environmental factors, income and facilitators and obstacles were assessed using the Measure of the Quality of the Environment (MQE). Personal factors: age and sex. Multiple Linear Regression was employed. Limited locomotor ability (β = −0.281; t = −3.231 p = 0.002), dissatisfaction regarding activities and participation (β = −0.273; t = −3.070 p = 0.003), and the non-return to work (β = 0.162; t = 2.085 p = 0.04) were associated with disability. The reduction in locomotor ability, dissatisfaction regarding activities and participation and the non-return to work were associated with disability in the chronic phase following a stroke. The reduction in locomotion ability, dissatisfaction regarding activities and participation, and the non-return to work were associated with disability in the chronic phase following a stroke. Introduction:Holistic healthcare service delivery requires rehabilitation personnel to consider all the components of health that influence the client's quality of life. However, there is limited literature on approaches to implementing rehabilitation services within South African public healthcare. This study explored rehabilitation personnel's (such as occupational therapists, speech therapists, physiotherapists) use of occupation-based practice impairment-based practice and the barriers and facilitators associated with their practice choice. Methods: A qualitative research design was conducted through semistructured interviews (13 participants), a focus group (4 participants) and community mapping. Purposive sampling was utilised to select participants in the iLembe district, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Data were analysed using deductive thematic analysis. Findings: Three themes emerged from the study; Attitudes towards impairment-based practice, Reflections on OBP, and The way forward. The need to focus on all the components of health rather than just the disease and the benefits of using the occupation-based practice approach were highlighted. Additionally, different factors required to implement holistic rehabilitation services and the barriers to OBP were identified. Conclusion: Although the study identified OBP benefits, various barriers associated with its implementation were identified. Rehabilitation personnel, community stakeholders, and clients must work together to improve OBP implementation in public healthcare by combating the barriers identified in the study. The WHODAS 2.0 (36-item version) and the auxiliary instruments were applied through face-to-face and telephone interviews after 7–14 d. The psychometric properties evaluated were: Cronbach’s alpha for internal consistency, intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) for intra-rater test-retest, Spearman’s correlation coefficient (rho) for construct validity of WHODAS 2.0 with auxiliary instruments; and ANOVA for discriminative validity with UI severity.101 women with UI with a mean age of 50.71 ± 10.39 were included. WHODAS 2.0 showed good reliability in all domains and excellent reliability in the total score (>0.80). The intra-evaluator test-retest showed ICC values between 0.59 and 0.87 (p < 0.001). Aim: As a first step in developing an International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) Core Set for adults with vision loss, this systematic review sought to identify the researchers' perspective by identifying the most often used outcome measures and research topics obtained from studies on adults with vision loss. Methods: PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, APA PsycINFO and Web of Science were searched for studies on vision loss. Meaningful outcome measures and research topics were linked to the ICF components: environmental factors, body functions, body structures and the Activities and Participation life domains. Results: After deduplication, 7219 records remained, of which 2328 articles were eligible for further review. For feasibility reasons, approximately 20% were randomly chosen from every publication year, resulting in 446 included articles. After full‐text reading, 349 articles remained, describing 753 outcome measures based on questionnaires and 2771 additional research topics that could be linked to the ICF. Most were linked to the component Activities and Participation, with a focus on recreation and leisure activities (ICF code d920, 70%), reading (d166, 34%) and driving (d475, 27%). For the component body function, seeing functions (b210, 83%) were most often reported. Outcome measures and research topics were least often linked to the body structure component and environmental factors. Conclusion: The broad range of ICF categories identified in this systematic review represents the variety of functioning typical for adults with vision loss. These results reflect the focus of researchers over the past 21 years by using various vision‐related outcomes. Abstract: As an instrument of diagnostic and therapeutic quality assurance, case reports contain a description of the diagnostic procedure and the resulting ICD diagnoses and a model-based case concept. Therapy goals are derived and the implementation and evaluation of these goals are documented based on this concept. Case reports are of particular importance in training and further education. Historically, standard templates in clinical neuropsychology have been based on findings and expert reports. Candidates and supervisors have formulated the need for development since the previous state-decreed training regulations came into force 10 years ago, and in 2017, the current curriculum of the German Society for Neuropsychology was introduced. The new further training regulations put neuropsychological psychotherapy on an equal footing with the other fields of psychotherapy. There is a particular need for standards for developing individualized case concepts as a basis for therapy goals and therapeutic procedures. In line with this objective, we outline here a standardized case presentation with ICF-based case conceptualization, which, in addition to functional deficits, also includes the domains of activity and participation. We include personal and environmental factors as well as a professionally justified, graduated selection of therapy goals. Background: Many complex factors contribute to suicide in older adults. The suicidal ideation that precedes suicide is an especially direct predictor of suicide. This study aimed to identify the effects between variables affecting suicidal ideation among older adults using the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) model and understand the causal relationships to systematize complex factors. Methods: This study used data from 9920 community-dwelling older adults who completed a national survey in 2020 to classify predictors of suicidal ideation (e.g., depression, subjective health status, sociodemographic factors, health factors, social support, instrumental activities of daily living (IADL), and social participation) by using the ICF model. To determine the causal relationship between variables, this study examined significance based on the critical ratio (C.R.) and squared multiple correlation (SMC) by using a path model. Results: Gender, education level, economic level, age, IADL, relationship satisfaction with a child, depression, and the number of chronic diseases significantly affected suicidal ideation, while age, employment status, participation in social groups, formal and informal support, satisfaction with a friend/neighbor relationship, and subjective health status did not significantly influence it. Moreover, depression mediated the relationship between each of these variables and suicidal ideation. Conclusions: It was found that depression was the most direct and mediating factor in suicidal ideation among many factors affecting the suicidal ideation of community-dwelling older adults. BACKGROUND: Knowledge on long-term participation is scarce for patients with paid employment at the time of stroke. OBJECTIVE: Describe the characteristics and the course of participation (paid employment and overall participation) in patients who did and did not remain in paid employment. METHODS: Patients with paid employment at the time of stroke completed questions on work up to 30 months after starting rehabilitation, and the Utrecht Scale for Evaluation of Rehabilitation-Participation (USER-P, Frequency, Restrictions and Satisfaction scales) up to 24 months. Baseline characteristics of patients with and without paid employment at 30 months were compared using Fisher's Exact Tests and Mann-Whitney U Tests. USER-P scores over time were analysed using Linear Mixed Models. RESULTS: Of the 170 included patients (median age 54.2 interquartile range 11.2 years; 40% women) 50.6% reported paid employment at 30 months. Those returning to work reported at baseline more working hours, better quality of life and communication, were more often self-employed and in an office job. The USER-P scores did not change statistically significantly over time. CONCLUSION: About half of the stroke patients remained in paid employment. Optimizing interventions for returning to work and achieving meaningful participation outside of employment seem desirable. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Whilst existing quantitative research identifies outcomes believed to be important by researchers and clinicians, it may neglect outcomes that are meaningful to patients. This study aimed to explore the outcomes of exercise that are important to people with lung cancer and their carers. Data collection involved a qualitative methodology including semi-structured interviews and focus groups. Question guide development was informed by the International Classification of Functioning (ICF) framework. Data were analyzed by two researchers with NVivo (v12) software using a conventional content analysis process, followed by directed content analysis to map outcomes to the ICF. Conduct and reporting adhered to COREQ guidelines. Fifteen participants provided data. Most participants had received their diagnoses 24 months prior to study involvement (n = 9), and one-third had completed treatment (n = 5). Important outcomes were reported by participants across all domains of the ICF: activity and participation (n = 24), body function (n = 19), body structure (n = 5), environmental factors (n = 5), and personal factors (n = 1). Additional code categories pertained to the impacts of non-cancer factors such as age, frailty, and comorbidities; identifying barriers to exercise; and individualizing outcome measures. Clinicians and researchers should consider selecting outcomes from all relevant domains of the ICF, with a focus on the activity and participation domain, in addition to non-cancer factors such as ageing, frailty, and co-morbidities. Feedback should be provided to patients following outcome measures collection and reassessment.

The International Classification of Functioning is a tool that will provide a patient-centered, interdisciplinary approach to physical therapy for children requiring palliative care. Purpose: to analyze the dynamics of indicators for assessing impairments and limitations according to the components of the International Classification of Functioning in the process of rehabilitation of palliative pediatric patients of non-oncological profile. Material & Methods: empirical methods (comparison, description, measurement), theoretical methods (axiomatic), general logical methods (analysis, synthesis, generalization), multiple regression method. The basis of physical therapy for pediatric non-cancer palliative patients has been the biopsychosocial model presented in the International Classification of Functioning of Children and Youth (ICF-CY). Domains of ICF-CY components were selected that took into account the symptomatology of the criteria for palliative conditions. As a result, the list of domain codes in the study included 17 categories: structures and functions of the body – 6 categories (s710, b280, b710, b735, b760, b134), activity and participation – 7 categories (d310-340, d415, d465 d820, d920), environmental factors – 3 categories (e355, e320, e115). Initial patient surveys were interpreted into ICF classifiers and patient categories were generated. Results: the initial examination established the main limitations, revealed the severity of impairments in each domain, and recorded the vast majority of severe, absolute impairments in patients of both groups. A control rehabilitation assessment 24 months after the start of therapy showed positive dynamics of ICF indicators in both groups. Calculation of the dynamics of changes in classifiers showed that the components of the functioning of the body in the main group corresponded to 123,0%, in the comparison group – 52,9%, for components of activity and participation – 154,4% in the main group and comparison group – 49,9%; components Environmental factors – 81,6% in children of the main group and in patients of the comparison group, respectively – 22,9%. A reliable correlation has been established between all components of the ICF-CY version, mathematically confirmed, and the correlation coefficient is 0,787378. Conclusions: the use of the International Classification of Functioning contributed to a comprehensive examination of patients in need of non-oncological palliative care, helped to formulate a multi-vector rehabilitation program and ensured monitoring of the effectiveness of the rehabilitation program.

Aim: To assess the correlation between stroke patients’ satisfaction with participation and activity (measured by SATIS-Stroke) and their functional independence [measured by modified Rankin Scale, (mRS)] after 30 days of hospital discharge. Materials and Methods: A longitudinal study was conducted on 135 stroke patients, tracking them for 1 month after stroke. Demographic data, including sex, age, marital status, education level, living conditions, and annual budget, were collected. Data analysis was performed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 25.0. Results: Over the 30-day follow-up period, all 135 stroke patients completed the SATIS questionnaire and recorded mRS scores. Initially, the mean mRS score was three during hospitalization, which improved to a mean score of 2 by the end of hospitalization and follow-up. The average SATIS score was 73. Conclusion: The SATIS questionnaire demonstrated a significant correlation with mRS, indicating its effectiveness in predicting stroke patients’ clinical status and satisfaction with daily activities and lives. The study also evaluated the questionnaire’s predictive value regarding age, gender, income, and marital status. Notably, the questionnaire exhibited a higher predictive value among older females and patients with higher income levels.

BACKGROUND: To advance rehabilitation we need a comprehensive understanding of functioning and disability of people after stroke. OBJECTIVE: To present an overview of the methodology of the Life After Stroke In Northern Sweden Study, compare participants and non-participants regarding gender and age, and describe baseline sociodemographics, stroke characteristics and the participants' self-rated degree of recovery. METHODS: Data were collected through a study specific questionnaire, from the participants' medical records and with internationally established self-assessment tools focusing on sleep disturbances, depressive symptoms, fatigue, physical activity, and remaining physical and cognitive impairments, activity limitations, participation restrictions and life satisfaction. RESULTS: Of 301 potential participants, 160 comprise the final sample (response rate 53%; 86 men and 74 women, mean age 73 years±11, mean time since stroke onset 35 months±11; 18– 61). Most participants had an ischemic stroke (87%), were retired (84%), cohabitant (63%) and walked independently (71%). The mean self-rated degree of recovery was 75 (SD±24; 0– 100). CONCLUSIONS: These baseline data together with forthcoming studies will describe stroke-related impairments, activity limitations, participation restrictions and life satisfaction more than one year after stroke, and deepen our understanding of factors of importance for a healthy and successful life after stroke. Whilst existing quantitative research identifies outcomes believed to be important by researchers and clinicians, it may neglect outcomes that are meaningful to patients. This study aimed to explore the outcomes of exercise that are important to people with lung cancer and their carers. Data collection involved a qualitative methodology including semi-structured interviews and focus groups. Question guide development was informed by the International Classification of Functioning (ICF) framework. Data were analyzed by two researchers with NVivo (v12) software using a conventional content analysis process, followed by directed content analysis to map outcomes to the ICF. Conduct and reporting adhered to COREQ guidelines. Fifteen participants provided data. Most participants had received their diagnoses 24 months prior to study involvement (n = 9), and one-third had completed treatment (n = 5). Important outcomes were reported by participants across all domains of the ICF: activity and participation (n = 24), body function (n = 19), body structure (n = 5), environmental factors (n = 5), and personal factors (n = 1). Additional code categories pertained to the impacts of non-cancer factors such as age, frailty, and comorbidities; identifying barriers to exercise; and individualizing outcome measures. Clinicians and researchers should consider selecting outcomes from all relevant domains of the ICF, with a focus on the activity and participation domain, in addition to non-cancer factors such as ageing, frailty, and co-morbidities. Cognitive rehabilitation research has progressed slowly, in part due to incomplete reporting of intervention content and delivery and the difficulties this produces for discerning program effectiveness. This knowledge gap can be reduced by providing detailed intervention descriptions. We document the content/ingredients and therapeutic targets of a cognitive rehabilitation program for adults with mild-to-moderate cognitive impairment. The documentation process used a method of participatory/collaborative research. Discussions with the clinical team identified session content/ingredients and therapeutic targets, which were then described using Body Functions, and Activities & Participation domains from the International Classification of Function, Disability and Health (ICF). Domains most frequently targeted by each clinician were identified as Primary Targets. Each clinician produced a detailed description of session content, implementation, and ICF-coded therapeutic targets. This revealed that the whole program targets 29 ICF domains, seven of which were identified as Primary Targets: Higher-level Cognitive; Attention; Memory; Emotional; Global Psychosocial, Temperament and Personality, and Conversation. Documentation of treatment targets enabled identification of appropriate outcome measures which are now being used to investigate program efficacy. This step-by-step explanation of the documentation process could serve as a guide for other teams wanting to document their rehabilitation interventions and/or establish similar programs. Incomplete reporting of intervention content and delivery contributes to difficulties in discerning the effectiveness of complex rehabilitation programs. Current recommendations for rehabilitation intervention reporting suggest that these difficulties can be partially overcome by providing detailed descriptions of intervention content/ingredients and treatment targets. Human and physical resources differ widely from one clinical setting to another and the existence of clear program descriptions can guide clinicians who wish to create similar programs. Detailed descriptions of rehabilitation interventions are necessary to accurately measure patient outcomes and generate testable hypotheses about proposed mechanisms of action. The objective of the study is to describe the nature of functional limitations in activities and participation in people with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) or axial SpondyloArthritis (axSpA) with severe functional disability. Baseline data from people with RA (n = 206) or axSpA (n = 155) and severe functional disability participating in an exercise trial were used. Their three most limited activities were derived from the Patient Specific Complaint (PSC) instrument and linked to the International Classification of Functioning and Health (ICF). The frequencies of ICF categories were calculated and compared with Activities and Participation items of the ICF Core Sets for RA (32 second-level categories) and Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) (24 second-level categories). In total 618 and 465 PSC activities were linked to 909 (72 unique in total; 25 unique second-level) and 759 (57 unique in total; 23 unique second-level) ICF categories in RA and axSpA. Taking into account all three prioritized activities, the five most frequent limited activities concerned the ICF chapter "Mobility", and included "Walking" (RA and axSpA 2 categories), "Changing basic body position" (RA and axSpA 1 category), "Stair climbing"(RA) and "Grasping" (RA),"Lifting" (axSpA) and "Maintaining a standing position" (axSpA). In RA, 21/32 (66%) and in axSpA 14/24 (58%) unique second-level categories identified in the prioritized activities are present in the Comprehensive Core Sets. Most limitations of people with RA or axSpA and severe functional disability were seen in the ICF chapter "Mobility". Wheelchair (WC) design elements are subjected to the accessibility and assistive needs of a person with locomotor disability. In order to pursue a holistic design for a stairclimbing WC, there is a need for literature review on WC functions reported for both stair climbing and plane surface movement. A total of 112 Research articles are reviewed for the purpose of extracting the relationship between WC design elements and the functions associated with them. Stairclimbing technologies are reviewed for their technological assessment in terms of functional elements associated with stairclimbing. Cross-functional mapping between functional elements and their dominant function is performed. Heat map for primary user needs and associated design elements is generated from cross mapping. A design gap for user's functional needs is indicated from the review of literature on prototypes and products of WC. The literature in stairclimbing technology is primarily focussed on stair climbing capability and not on the other functional needs, such as safety, ride comfort, seat comfort, manoeuvrability, etc. For attaining the goal of an effective rehabilitation, it is important to design and develop an assistive technology that can provide maximum accessibility and functioning for a person with disability. In case of locomotor disability, wheelchair (WC) is the most empowering tool that can assist people in both accessibility and activities of daily living. This review of literature was conducted to draw out the functions fulfilled by a WC, such as safety, comfort, propulsion for its users and the associated WC elements like seat, wheels, backrest, etc., that are required to fulfil those functions. WC being the most important technological intervention in the life of a person who cannot walk should be designed with the highest level of empathy. Therefore, each and every aspect of the user's physical and emotional needs should be catered up to the limits of engineering design. The research on stair climbing technologies has also grown exponentially, fuelled by technological growth in engineering mechanisms, ambient awareness sensors, actuators, etc. The review attempts to envelop such technologies and consolidate them on the basis of their capabilities and efficacies. The virtue of stair climbing has been realized through some novel and innovative mechanisms reviewed in this article that can be integrated with the research in field of functional elements required to carry out primary functions of a disabled person, such as safety, comfort, intuitiveness, etc. This review can help in coupling both of them in a more rational way where a designer who is designing the technology is more empathetic towards the design for accessibility. Objective The Avoidance of Daily Activities Photo Scale for Patients With Shoulder Pain (ADAP Shoulder Scale) was developed to assess pain-related avoidance behavior during daily activities in people with shoulder pain. However, its measurement properties must be verified according to international guidelines. As such, this study investigated the following 4 measurement properties of the ADAP Shoulder Scale: reliability, measurement errors, convergent validity, and floor and ceiling effects. Methods The sample comprised 100 individuals with chronic shoulder pain (43 men and 57 women; mean duration of symptoms of 29.7 [SD = 89.0] months; mean age of 44.9 [SD = 15.9] years). The mean test–retest reliability range was 5 days via the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). Measurement errors included the standard error of measurement and the minimal detectable change. Convergent validity was analyzed by applying the Pearson correlation with the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia, Pain Catastrophizing Scale, and Shoulder Pain and Disability Index. Results The ADAP Shoulder Scale showed excellent test–retest reliability, both in all domains and in the total score [ICC(2,1) = 0.94; 95% CI = 0.92–0.96]. The standard errors of measurement for the free-movement, high-effort, and self-care domains were 8.1%, 6.0%, and 7.6%, respectively. The minimal detectable change for the total score of the ADAP Shoulder Scale was 16.0%. The total score of the ADAP Shoulder Scale was low to moderately correlated with the total scores of the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia (r  = 0.52), Pain Catastrophizing Scale (r  = 0.30), and Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (r  = 0.72). No floor or ceiling effects were detected in the total score. Conclusion The ADAP Shoulder Scale is a reliable, valid instrument for assessing avoidance behavior in adults who have chronic shoulder pain and are not athletes. Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate long COVID patients with persistent respiratory symptoms through the application of the World Health Organization (WHO) International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) framework. Patients and methods: This national, prospective, multicenter, cross-sectional study was conducted with 213 patients (118 females, 95 males; median age 56 years; range, 20 to 85 years) with long COVID between February 2022 and November 2022. The ICF data were primarily collected through patient interviews and from the acute medical management records, physical examination findings, rehabilitation outcomes, and laboratory test results. Each parameter was linked to the Component Body Functions (CBF), the Component Body Structures (CBS), the Component Activities and Participation (CAP), the Component Environmental Factors (CEF), and Personal Factors according to the ICF linking rules. Analysis was made of the frequency of the problems encountered at each level of ICF category and by what percentage of the patient sample. Results: In the ICF, 21 categories for CBF, 1 category for CBS, and 18 categories of CAP were reported as a significant problem in a Turkish population of long COVID patients with persistent respiratory symptoms. Furthermore, eight categories for CEF were described as a facilitator, and four as a barrier. Conclusion: These results can be of guidance and provide insight into the identification of health and health-related conditions of long COVID patients with persistent respiratory symptoms beyond the pathophysiological aspects, organ involvement, and damage of COVID-19. ABSTRACT Workers’ functioning is related to the environmental conditions that influence their activities, favoring or hindering their fulfilment. The Work Rehabilitation Questionnaire (WORQ) was based on a core set of the Classification of Functioning (ICF) to assess workers. It has a validated Portuguese version for use with active Brazilian workers but it only assesses function body limitations, activities, and participation. This study developed a questionnaire to assess environmental barriers at work following the WORQ format and tested its reliability. This study reached a consensus (10 professionals and 11 workers) to choose environmental categories in the CIF core set that originated the WORQ to be integrated into the questionnaire. This research selected elements if at least 85% of participants reported it. Categories were transformed into questions. For reliability analysis, the questionnaire was applied to a random sample of 123 active workers at a public university in Brazil. The questionnaire had 20 questions based on the ICF core set for vocational rehabilitation and WORQ. This study evaluated its reliability, finding an r=0.855 (test-retest) and Cronbach’s alpha=0.936 (internal consistency). This study developed an ICF-based questionnaire to assess environmental barriers in the workplace. The analysis of psychometric characteristics showed strong test-retest reliability and the internal consistency of the instrument.

BackgroundBehavioral activation (BA) and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) have shown to be efficacious treatment methods for depression. Previous studies focused mostly on the outpatient treatment either in group or individual setting. The present study aimed at comparing the efficacy of group treatment BA vs. CBT, when embedded in inpatient psychosomatic rehabilitation treatment.Methods375 inpatients were randomly assigned to either BA (N = 174) or CBT (N = 201). We used established scales for depression such as the Beck Depression Inventory II (BDI-II, self-rating), the Quick Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology (QIDS; expert rating) and the Behavioral Activation for Depression Scale (BADS) to assess changes over the course of the treatment and at follow-up (4 to 6 months). In addition, we measured disability-related functioning with the Mini-ICF-APP, a rating scale built in reference to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). Multilevel models with repeated measures were conducted to examine the differences between groups in relation to change over time with patients’ random effects.ResultsBoth group formats showed substantial reduction in depressive symptoms at the end of treatment (d= 0.83 BA vs. d= 1.08 CBT; BDI-II) and at follow-up after 4 to 6 months (d = 0.97 BA vs. d = 1.33 CBT, BDI-II; and d = 1.17 BA vs. d = 1.09 CBT, QIDS). There were no significant differences between treatment approaches. At least 50% symptom reduction was achieved by 53.7% and 54.2% in BA vs. CBT respectively. Reported activation levels increased from pre- to posttreatment (d = 0.76 BA vs. d = 0.70CBT), while showing loss of increment between the end of the treatment until follow up in both formats (d = 0.28 BA vs. d = 0.29 CBT).DiscussionBoth modalities led to significant improvement of symptomatology and functioning at the end of the treatment and at follow-up, thus for the first time demonstrating the practicability of BA in rehabilitation clinics. Considering its lower requirements regarding cognitive abilities and its easier implementation, BA proved to be a good alternative to other psychotherapeutic treatments.

Purpose: сomparative clinical and diagnostic efficiency of the quality of life (QОL) according to the PHEC-22 and Catquest-9SF questionnaires after bilateral cataract phacoemulsification and monofocal IOL implantation. Patients and Methods. We observed 148 patients with binocular cataract (mean age 58.6 ± 1.8 years). All patients underwent standard cataract phacoemulsification with implantation of a monofocal IOL. Patients were examined before and after (one month after surgery on the second eye) surgery. The results of the survey on the questionnaires PHEC-22 and Catquest-9SF were evaluated by the general indicator of testing (GIT) as the sum of points for all questions (taking into account the “weight” coefficients in the questionnaire PHEC-22). Along with this, each of the patients underwent a study of binocular BCVA. Results. A statistically significantly higher clinical and diagnostic efficiency of the PHEC-22 questionnaire compared to Catquest-9SF was established, which is confirmed by a higher (by 0.17 rel. units, p < 0.01) level of correlation with BCVA, as well as a higher probability of compliance of the QOL level with the BCVA range, especially at low (0.4 and less rel. units, by 18.5 %, p < 0.01) and medium (0.5–0,8 relative units, by 7.3 %, p < 0.05) values of BCVA, while in the range of BCVA 0.9–1.0 relative units, no significant differences between the questionnaires were found (p > 0.05). Conclusion. The results of a comparative study after bilateral cataract phacoemulsification and monofocal IOL implantation using the PHEC-22 and Catquest-9SF questionnaires revealed a significantly higher clinical and diagnostic efficiency of the PHEC-22 questionnaire, which is associated with the methodological principles for developing a questionnaire based on the “social model” of health with the involvement of expert ophthalmologists and the use of the optimal procedure for scaling the patient’s responses. The results obtained (taking into account clinical normalization) allow us to recommend the PHEC-22 questionnaire for inclusion in the complex diagnosis of patients with cataracts both before and after surgery in solving a number of urgent problems — a comparative assessment of IOL, a study of the effectiveness of methods for postoperative rehabilitation of patients, the choice of the optimal formula for calculating IOL and some others.
