The complex association between obesity and prostate cancer necessitates exploring how obesity impacts the incidence, progression, treatment response, and prognosis of prostate cancer. An analysis was conducted to determine the potential adverse effects of obesity on prostate cancer treatment, including changes in drug metabolism and surgical complications. It also discusses how obesity increases the risk of disease progression and recurrence. Further emphasis was provided to the importance of comprehensive interventions to reduce the risk of prostate cancer through lifestyle modifications (including healthy diet, moderate exercise, and maintaining normal weight), pharmacological treatments (such as potential drugs targeting obesity and prostate cancer-related mechanisms), and regular check-ups and screenings. Lastly, the work envisions future research directions, including exploring the specific mechanisms linking obesity and prostate cancer, designing more scientific clinical trials, and enhancing interdisciplinary cooperation. These opportunities and challenges aim to provide references and insights for future research and development

- Abstract
Aim: This short overview aims to concisely outline the most important gynecological issues from a predominantly operative point of view, which could also be relevant for general and abdominal surgeons as well as important gynecological aspects of primarily visceral surgical pathologies. Method: Narrative review on the topic of interdisciplinary cooperation in gynecological/general and abdominal surgery through the use of PubMed® as well as the Cochrane Library with search terms, such as "operative profile of abdominal surgery and gynecology", "interdisciplinary surgery aspects of gynecology/abdominal surgery" as well as "interdisciplinary surgical approach−surgical complication". Results (main points): As the close anatomical relationship suggests, numerous primarily gynecological pathologies can also occur in abdominal organs. Likewise, predominantly surgical pathologies can result in involvement of gynecological organs. This can make an intraoperative collaboration necessary. In addition, as a result of diagnostic uncertainty or within the context of complications, interdisciplinary collaboration can also be required preoperatively and postoperatively. Multidisciplinary knowledge as well as close cooperation of the involved specialties can improve the outcome of affected patients. Conclusion: Many pathologies extend not only to the boundaries of an individual discipline but can also affect physiological systems exceeding those limits. Therefore, for an optimal treatment it is necessary to be aware of such aspects of the diseases and to establish structured procedures for interdisciplinary cooperation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Background A phase-III interdisciplinary quality improvement program, the preanesthetic oral examination (PAOE), was implemented as a new program in an academic medical center to prevent perioperative dental injuries. This study was aimed at surveying the perceived service quality and satisfaction of patients who had undergone PAOE based on the SERVQUAL model. Methods This cross-sectional survey was conducted at the Kaohsiung Medical University Hospital using convenience sampling. Patients referred for PAOE (PAOE group) and those who had voluntarily availed dental services (control group) were recruited. A modified SERVQUAL questionnaire was used to assess the perceived service quality and patient satisfaction with dental services. Cronbach’s alpha for SERVQUAL was 0.861. Results We enrolled 286 (68.8%) and 130 (31.2%) participants in the PAOE and control groups, respectively. The path analysis revealed that the PAOE group scored lower in dimensions of reliability (β = -0.074, P = 0.003), responsiveness (β = -0.148, P = 0.006), and empathy (β = -0.140, P = 0.011). Furthermore, reliability (β = 0.655, P < 0.001) and responsiveness (β = 0.147, P = 0.008) showed a direct effect on patient satisfaction. Overall, participants were highly satisfied with the dental services. Conclusions: The PAOE group showed lower satisfaction and perceived quality of dental services compared to the control group. Although implementing an interdisciplinary program reduces the perceived service quality, its influence is limited. Employing an interdisciplinary teamwork is a win–win strategy encouraged to improve patient safety and reduce malpractice claims. Future suggestions should focus on establishing waiting times that are considered reasonable by patients. Patient-centered education related to the risk of perioperative dental injuries should be provided, and awareness of oral conditions for patient safety should be improved. Moreover, interprofessional education in continuous and undergraduate programs is necessary to improve professional quality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In an age where computing capabilities are expanding at a breathtaking pace, the advent of Artificial Intelligence-Generated Content (AIGC) technology presents unprecedented opportunities and challenges to the future of design. It is crucial for designers to investigate how to utilize this powerful tool to facilitate innovation effectively. As AIGC technology evolves, it will inevitably shift the expectations of designers, compelling them to delve deeper into the essence of design creativity, transcending traditional sketching or modeling skills. This study provides valuable insights for designers on leveraging AIGC for forward-thinking design innovation. We focus on the representative AIGC tool, "Midjourney", to explore its integration into design systems for collaborative innovation among content creators. We introduce an AIGC-based Midjourney path for product design and present a supporting tool card set: AMP-Cards. To confirm their utility, we undertook extensive validation through advanced prototype design research, task-specific project practices, and interdisciplinary collaborative seminars. Our findings indicate that AIGC can considerably enhance designers' efficiency during product development, especially in the "explorative product shape" phase. The technology excels in identifying design styles and quickly producing varied design solutions. Moreover, AIGC's capacity to swiftly translate creators' concepts into visual forms greatly aids in multidisciplinary team communication and innovation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Pharmacy schools recognize the need for flexibility and comprehensive curricular transformation with a competency-based focus to effectively prepare for the evolving practitioner competencies and challenges of the pharmacy profession. The curricular implementation of evidence-based teaching and learning theories and practices demands educator proficiency through skills development with indispensable faculty leadership support. Our scoping review of online databases and pharmacy education-related journals aims to identify faculty development interventions or teaching proficiency programs that integrate educational and pedagogical theories. Original studies and reviews published between 2010 and 2022 were screened based on four inclusion criteria. Thirty-four manuscripts were eligible for full-text analysis, of which seven results referenced target faculty pedagogy knowledge development. Nine key messages, as Results Statements, synthesize and provide a framework for our results analysis. An ongoing Hungarian intervention model of comprehensive faculty development with strong interdisciplinary cooperation is discussed in our study to illustrate the applicability of the Results Statements through each stage of the process. Educator motivation and relatedness to students or awareness of the educator roles are intrinsic factors, which may not be easily detectable yet significantly impact teaching proficiency and student learning outcomes. The integration of evidence-based pedagogical knowledge and training in educator proficiency development contributes to the sustainability and cost-effectiveness of faculty interventions. Introduction: Application-related (hands-on) training and instruction is an essential component in the advanced education of physicians in residency. To teach and train required endoscopic examinations and interventions in a standardized manner, courses are offered by various societies. Within these courses the assistant endoscopists learn and train how to use the technical equipment and how to perform the examinations and related interventions. Similarly, for graduate biomedical engineering students with a job- or research-related interest in the field of endoand laparoscopy, an early involvement and practical introduction to the instrumentation and techniques - if possible already during their studies - can generate a fundamental understanding of the technical requirements as well needs of the physicians. Objective: As various such (hands-on) training-courses for flexible and rigid endoscopy specifically addressing young physicians, surgeons as well as engineers are offered by numerous institutes, this contribution tries do provide a structured overview on/over these possibilities. Material: Known cross-institutional courses in the field of endo- and laparoscopy currently offered in Germany in cooperation of physicians and engineers are listed and briefly described. Results: A total of n = 4 crossinstitutional courses for the introduction and training in flexible and rigid endoscopy have been identified. Discussion: The cross-institutional courses for physicians and technicians in the field of endo- and laparoscopy presented serve to provide a better understanding of the subject matter and the field of either discipline. Questions that arise in the field of endoscopy from physicians can be addressed at an early stage and, if necessary, worked on with little effort. Ideas for new instruments and even new interventions can arise and be pursued through an intensive exchange between technicians and physicians. Collaborations are established on a local basis which will foster national activities in this field and which allow to develop competencies relevant for the industrial sector of medical engineering.

- Abstract
Introduction: Palliative care is essential for patients with terminal diseases and aims at effective symptom control. This may stand in opposition to radiation treatment as an oncological treatment modality. The hereby presented work demonstrates the successful integration of a palliative care service in the radiation oncology ward. Methods: Since 2015, 1018 patients were seen by the palliative care service on the radiation oncology ward and have been analyzed in this single center study. To assess teaching efficacy of the consultation service, a survey was conducted among 15 radiation oncology residents. Results: Cooperation between the two departments proved to be efficient with rising patient numbers. Palliative care was able to guide appropriate postdischarge care with the number of patients dying on the radiation oncology ward decreasing significantly (p = 0.009). The main topics for consultation were pain medication (92.3%), organization of postdischarge care (92.3%), and psycho-oncological support (84.6%). Most residents had a positive image of the palliative care service and consented on adjectives like "enriching", "empathic", "collegial", "professionally founded", and a "low threshold for consultation". All participants agreed that cooperation deepened their knowledge on palliative care. Conclusion: A synergistic cooperation between a palliative care consultation service and a radiation oncology department addresses patient symptoms on an individual level. It confers advanced knowledge on palliative care which is essential for resident education and patient treatment.

- Abstract
Background: In Germany, different models of orthogeriatric co-management have been implemented in certified geriatric trauma centers. So far, it is not clear how the different models are implemented and what influence the certification has on the structures and processes within the centers. The present study examined the extent of cooperation between surgery and geriatrics and if the quality of care had changed since the certification of the centers., Methods: In this study 4 guided focus group interviews (FGI) were conducted in different teams of certified geriatric trauma centers in 3 federal states with 16 participants. To specify the content of the FGI, two additional interviews were conducted with system auditors. Both types of interview were analyzed by content analysis., Results: The certification supported the implementation of structures and processes in the different orthogeriatric models; however, the quality of care and cooperation between surgery and geriatrics depends on the spatial proximity and the orthogeriatric care model in the geriatric trauma centers. Simultaneously, challenges in the area of geriatric syndromes and the recruitment of skilled staff became relevant., Discussion: The results can help to reflect processes in the certified geriatric trauma centers and to treat geriatric syndromes more effectively. In the future, the challenge will be to establish geriatric care under the existing shortage of skilled staff., (© 2024. ARCHITECTURAL aesthetics ,SMALL cities ,PROFESSIONAL employees ,PUBLIC spaces ,CONTRACTING out ,PUBLIC contracts - Abstract
In general, public spaces are what represents and symbolizes the city. Their design either enables or, to the contrary, complicates community life. Therefore, their appearance has an impact on the quality of life and satisfaction of the inhabitants. It is in public spaces where people relate to their place of residence. From a visitor’s point of view, public spaces are the first thing they notice and encounter. Due to various circumstances, public spaces sometimes fail to meet the abovementioned features or do not fulfill them to the degree they should. At such a moment, the town management decides on a total or partial transformation of its public space. It is in the interest of the municipal leadership to create attractive public spaces for its inhabitants. Attractive not only in terms of the aesthetics of the architectural design, but, more importantly, in the creation of a pleasant space that will primarily meet the needs of their future users i.e., residents or other groups of users. It is thus important to involve local people, representatives and members of associations, organizations and businesses in the preparation and creation of the study assignment. That is why CTU UCEEB has developed the Guidelines for Planning Public Spaces in Small Towns, which is an output of the research project Livable cities and communities: Guidelines for planning of public space in digital era. The research project was supported by the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic through the ÉTA programme and its application guarantor is the Central Bohemian Innovation Center. The guidelines are the result of the collaboration of an interdisciplinary team of architects, urban planners, sociologists and psychologists, whose aim was to approach the research topic – planning public spaces from the perspective of municipal representatives – holistically and practically so that it is as comprehensible as possible for readers. Thus, the guidelines accompany representatives of small towns, who do not have the professional or personnel capacity to deal with public spaces, through the process of planning, preparation and contracting out the public spaces studies which leads to a quality assignment for a public space study. The guidelines also include tips for improving public spaces, recommended practices for public participation in planning the transformation of public spaces, and a site assessment form from a layperson’s perspective. The aim of the paper is to present the background and the result of the applied interdisciplinary research, which is the above-mentioned Guidelines for Planning Public Spaces in Small Cities, the process of its development and its validation, as well as to reflect on the experiences and findings carried out collaboratively by an urbanist and a sociologist. Introduction: Medicine relies on teamwork due to its vast scope, necessitating collaboration across disciplines. While some fields naturally intersect, others require interdisciplinary cooperation for complex cases. However, challenges arise, such as establishing intervention priorities and managing medication interactions. We explore these dynamics through a complex pediatric case involving eight specialties. Case Report: The presented case involves a male neonate born from a pathological pregnancy, exhibiting postnatal cyanosis and hypoxia necessitating transfer to the neonatal ICU. Already intra-utero cardiac examination suspected congenital ductal dependent malformation, severe aortic contraction, hypoplasia of the distal aortic arch, malformation of the mitral and aortic valve, ostium secundum atrial septal defect with sinister-dexter shunt, ventricular septal defect of the muscular part, persistent arterial canal along with pulmonary hypertension. Prostaglandin administration and angio- CT imaging ensued. Collaboration with pediatric cardiologists facilitated daily cardiac function assessments. By the fourth day, jaundice and decreased bowel movements emerged, prompting contrast radiography suspected duodenal stenosis. Surgical intervention on the sixth day revealed dilated D1 segment, duodenal stenosis due to annular pancreas, intestinal malrotation and malfixation, necessitating duodenojejunostomy. Postoperative care encompassed analgesia, antiemetics, diuretics, antibiotics (Ampiplus, Amikacin), electrolyte balance restoration and albumin administration, alongside continued prostaglandin therapy and phototherapy for jaundice. On the seventh day after surgery, worsening cardiac function led to an increase in prostaglandin and furosemide therapy. Cardiothoracic surgical intervention was delayed until significant improvement occurred.Despite an enhancement in his general state over the next days, the patient developed fever and CRP value was 61.9 ug/ml. Laboratory investigations included a positive hemoculture for gram-negative bacilli necessitating Colistin and immunoglobulin therapy. Further problems arose with refused food intake, vomiting and meteoristic abdomen. Imaging revealed gastric and intestinal distention and contrast-RX suggested intestinal stenosis at the anastomosis' side likely attributed to prostaglandin. In the meantime, Burkholderia Cepacia infection was confirmed, prompting transition to Meropenem from Vancomycin and Colistin as prescribed by infectious diseases specialists.Improvement ensued with plans to first perform cardiac-correction surgery and secondly reassess the duodenojejunal anastomosis. Discussions : The management of the presented case was challenged by complications, further complicating the severity of the malformation. It became evident that establishing the appropriate sequence of interventions is crucial. All this requires well-coordinated teamwork, meticulous consideration of potential drug interactions and procedural cross-reactions, and judicious decision-making regarding surgical interventions. Conclusions: Thus, this case underscores the importance of strategic planning and interdisciplinary collaboration in navigating challenging clinical scenarios. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The subject of the analysis addresses seniors. Social, medical and psychological support can be classified as particularly important considering problems seniors face in their everyday life. This implies the need to narrow down the field of analysis to those aspects that the authors are able to responsibly undertake based on their professional experiences and education. Hence, the idea of this article is to explain and justify the need to develop tridisciplinary cooperation: sociology, medicine and psychology. The analysis of issues related to supporting seniors shows also the need to stimulate the processes of the seniors activation and counteracting social marginalization. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: The pre-round meeting is an interprofessional gathering conducted in conjunction with the ward round in many hospitals. Here, nurses, doctors and eventually allied health clinicians discuss clinical issues before attending to the patients. This study focused on the learning aspects of the pre-round meeting, and it is, to our knowledge, the first study to explore the impact of pre-round meetings on learning in a clinical setting. Objectives: To improve our understanding of the impact pre-round meetings has on clinical learning among the nurses and doctors who attend them. Method: A qualitative study. Focus group interviews were conducted. Participants comprised of 9 doctors and 13 nurses from two different hospitals in Norway. The participants represented both surgical and non-surgical departments Results: This study showed that the pre-round meeting is an arena with a high learning potential. Learning takes place in the discussion that arises when different professions meet. Both nurses and doctors emphasized that the pre-round meeting is both a conscious learning arena and an arena where learning is a by-product. Several factors interfered with the utilization of its learning potential. Conclusion: The pre-round meeting is an arena with high learning potential. However various factors can influence this potential. The study highlights the importance of being aware of the learning potential in the pre-round meeting, to achieve higher-level learning objectives. A collaborative environment, continuity, competence, and availability of the staff and structured pre-round meetings are essential elements for achieving higher-level learning objectives. To assess the effect of enhanced standardized interdisciplinary cooperation between the orthogeriatric ward, municipality, and nursing home facility (NHF) on readmission rates in patients with hip fracture. Quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group. From January 2018 to July 2020, patients with hip fracture who were admitted to the department of orthopedic surgery and traumatology at Lillebaelt Hospital, and later discharged to NHF were included. The intervention consisted of a safety program to the NHF for the first 14 days postdischarge and included assessment of vital signs, weight, pain, signs of constipation, hours of mobilization, and daily intake of fluids and high-protein beverages. Acute team nurses undertook visits (planned and unplanned) and could take blood samples and administer intravenous fluids or antibiotics at the NHF. Control participants received usual care. The intervention was performed in 2 municipalities with an acute team; the remaining 3 municipalities comprised the control group. The primary outcome was 30-day readmission, and secondary outcomes were mortality, mobility, and quality of life. There were 100 patients in the intervention group and 152 in the control group. The median age was 86 years, 68% were female, and more than 60% had a low mental score; there were no statistical differences between groups in baseline variables. The 30-day readmission rate was 14% in the intervention group and 30% in the control group (P =.004). The 30-day mortality rate was 6% in the intervention group and 13% in the control group (P =.07). There was no statistically significant difference in mobility between the 2 groups but there was a higher health-related quality of life score in the intervention group (P =.045). Enhanced standardized interdisciplinary cooperation between hospital, NHF teams, and visiting acute team nurses can lower readmissions and potentially mortality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Socio-economic analyses (SEA), as an established method to evaluate the costs and benefits of actions, has been used to make chemical risk management plans and international compliance decisions. The exiting SEA has made significant progress in the impact assessment of chemical management, yet the key insights and challenges of costs and benefits evaluation has not been comprehensively summarized. This paper conducts a narrative review of recent SEA studies from developing countries and developed regions, focusing on the field of chemicals management. This review has explored the steps and methods of SEA in chemicals management and summarized the major challenges of SEA in terms of data availability, diversity of health endpoints, and interdisciplinary integration. The results showed that SEAs for chemicals management have been widely documented. However, there are still many challenges, especially the results of risk assessment are difficult to provide useful input for SEA. In addition, most SEAs do not consider the non-fatal health consequences of chemical exposure, and the selected health endpoints only include cancer or mortality. Due to the lack of dose-response relationship between chemical pollution concentration and ecosystem impact, it is difficult to quantify environmental benefits. Finally, it is strongly recommended to break the "communication barriers" between scholars in different fields by setting up research funds and projects. [Display omitted] • This paper reviews the challenges of SEA in chemicals management. • The results of risk assessment are difficult to provide practical input for SEA. • The environmental benefits of chemicals management are difficult to quantify. • Most SEAs ignore the non-fatal health consequences caused by chemical exposure. The INFORM project is carried out as a mixed-methods study with both qualitative and quantitative methods, using moderated focus groups and guided individual interviews as well as a standardized online-survey. First, profession-specific online-discussions are carried out with staff working clinically in medical rehabilitation to determine their specific needs in terms of rehabilitation-related skills which are required but may not have been adequately learned during qualification (work package 1). This is followed by focus groups within the interprofessional rehabilitation teams at the rehabilitation facilities to evaluate their common needs regarding interprofessional cooperation as well as implications for joint training offers in medical rehabilitation (work package 2). In order to determine the view of the clinical/administrative management on further training needs of the rehabilitation team or each of the profession-groups, guided individual interviews are conducted with the management (work package 3). Finally, the project will be finished with an anonymous online-survey in which the qualitative results from the focus groups and interviews are to be quantified and verified using a questionnaire which will be distributed among staff from the various health professions in medical rehabilitation (work package 4).
