Abstract: International audience; Among a plethora of drug nanocarriers, biocompatible nanoscale metal-organic frameworks (nanoMOFs) with a large surface area and an amphiphilic internal microenvironment have emerged as promising drug delivery platforms, mainly for cancer therapy. However, their application in biomedicine still suffers from shortcomings such as a limited chemical and/or colloidal stability and/or toxicity. Here, we report the design of a hierarchically porous nano-object (denoted as USPIO@MIL) combining a benchmark nanoMOF (that is, MIL-100(Fe)) and ultra-small superparamagnetic iron oxide (USPIO) nanoparticles (that is, maghemite) that is synthesized through a one-pot, cost-effective and environmentally friendly protocol. The synergistic coupling of the physico-chemical and functional properties of both nanoparticles confers to these nano-objects valuable features such as high colloidal stability, high biodegradability, low toxicity, high drug loading capacity as well as stimuli-responsive drug release and superparamagnetic properties. This bimodal MIL-100(Fe)/maghemite nanocarrier once loaded with anti-tumoral and anti-inflammatory drugs (doxorubicin and methotrexate) shows high anti-inflammatory and anti-tumoral activities. In addition, the USPIO@MIL nano-object exhibits excellent relaxometric properties and its applicability as an efficient contrast agent for magnetic resonance imaging is herein demonstrated. This highlights the high potential of the maghemite@MOF composite integrating the functions of imaging and therapy as a theranostic anti-inflammatory formulation.

Abstract: International audience; A facile and rapid localized electrochemical reduction of colloid copper particles is proposed using the scanning electrochemical,microscope (SECM), technique. In this purpose, thin films of composite silica :glass containing copper salts were prepared by the sol-gel method via the dip coating technique. Acid-catalyzed tetraethylorthosilane (TEOS) solutions charged with copper nitrate were used as precursors. This one-pot experiment can be performed in mild conditions. The localized generation of copper metallic nanostructures on silica film has been performed by electroreduction of methyl viologen on an ultramicroelectrode (UME). The UME generates reducing species, which in turn diffuse:toward the silica matrix and reduce the metal ions. The diameter of the working electrode and the electrolysis period Were taken into account to study the size of the generated dotted micropatterns. The compositions of the modified silica films were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning,electronic microscopy (SEM), optical microscopy,, and vibrational (IR-ATR and Raman) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopies (XPS).

Abstract: International audience; The mesoporous iron polycarboxylate MIL-100(Fe) was synthesized in the presence of Pseudomonas putida bacteria. The synthesis was performed under green conditions, i.e., pure aqueous media at 30 °C that were compatible with the preservation of the cell membrane integrity. Interestingly, the resulting biohybrid exhibited a very different microstructure than a physical mixture of the two components, as it led to the formation of a novel living material featuring an exoskeleton encapsulating individual bacteria cell. Remarkably, TEM and STEM observations on cross sections revealed that this shell was not directly in contact with the cell wall, suggesting the exopolysaccharides network promotes strong interactions with the MOF precursors, leading to high proximity between the two components.

Abstract: International audience; This review is intended to provide an up-to-date and comprehensive description of recent advances since the mid-2010s in the elaboration and the involvement of polyoxometalates (POMs)-functionalized (photo)electrodes in (photo)electrocatalytic reactions. Focus has been essentially placed not only on reactions of high interest, such as hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), oxygen evolution reaction (OER), and CO2 reduction reaction (CDRR) but also on other more "confidential " reactions (e.g., reduction of oxyanionic species and ascorbic acid oxidation). It is now well-known that POMs represent one class of fascinating compounds largely explored in inorganic chemistry, highlighted by the large number of complexes with structural, redox, and functional diversities which make them particularly attractive as efficient electrocatalysts for a wide range of significant multiredox reactions. The transposition of homogeneous electrocatalysis to (photo)electrode-supported electrocatalysis using POMs and its derivatives undoubtedly constitutes a really promising avenue toward the development of modern electrochemical devices, which could be of high interest for applications in chemical sensing, biosensing, electroanalysis, and solar driven fuel cells.

Abstract: International audience; Gold and silver nanoparticles in the 5 nm range functionalized by luminescent and electroactive iridium complexes are synthesized and characterized. Cyclometalated iridium complexes with a modified phenanthroline ligand bearing a pyridine end group are able to cap gold nanoparticles without changing their size and shape, while for silver the size slightly increases and aggregation starts to occur but without any flocculation. The luminescence of iridium is partially quenched by gold nano- particles even when interactions with the complex do not involve surface functionalization (simple mixture). This quenching is much weaker in the case of silver, and capped nanoparticles retain the same luminescence as the free complex. Both iridium complexes display electrofluorochromism, that is, a reversible electrochemically driven luminescence switch when changing the redox state of the metal center.

Abstract: International audience; Ultrathin c-Si solar cells have the potential to drastically reduce costs by saving raw material while maintaining good efficiencies thanks to the excellent quality of monocrystalline silicon. However, efficient light trapping strategies must be implemented to achieve high short-circuit currents. We report on the fabrication of both planar and patterned ultrathin c-Si solar cells on glass using low temperature (T < 275 °C), low-cost, and scalable techniques. Epitaxial c-Si layers are grown by PECVD at 160 °C and transferred on a glass substrate by anodic bonding and mechanical cleavage. A silver back mirror is combined with a front texturation based on an inverted nanopyramid array fabricated by nanoimprint lithography and wet etching. We demonstrate a short-circuit current density of 25.3 mA/cm2 for an equivalent thickness of only 2.75 μm. External quantum efficiency (EQE) measurements are in very good agreement with FDTD simulations. We infer an optical path enhancement of 10 in the long wavelength range. A simple propagation model reveals that the low photon escape probability of 25% is the key factor in the light trapping mechanism. The main limitations of our current technology and the potential efficiencies achievable with contact optimization are discussed.

Abstract: Taking into account high oil prices and environmental awareness, the development of electric vehicles (EVs) is considered as a healthier mode of transportation. Amongst other eco-friendly vehicles, EVs are considered as a favourable solution for a greener energy because the electricity they consume can be generated from a wide range of sources which include fossil fuel, nuclear power and renewable energy. However, users and owners of EVs feel uncomfortable because EVs require sufficient electrical energy battery storage on-board to provide sufficient driving autonomy.Lumped inductive power transfer (LIPT) system is a new technology that allows the transfer of electric power between its air-cored primary and secondary coils via high frequency magnetic fields to a consuming device. Unlike the conventional plug-in system, LIPT system is capable of providing a safe, efficient and convenient overnight recharging of EVs. However, its main limiting factor is the poor performance of its magnetic coupling structure (MCS), which is intended to transfer power efficiently. Thus the problem statement of this thesis is to improve the performance of MCS models for LIPT systems.Firstly, based on a more efficient and relevant mathematical model available in the literature, MATLAB code is implemented to compute the mutual inductance between air-cored filamentary circular (FC) coils. Also, the computation and experimental validation of the magnetic fields between two FC coils are presented.Furthermore, computational models of an IPT system for EV battery charge are presented in this thesis. Based on the technical specifications of Renault ZOE, the results obtained show that by supplying a higher frequency AC voltage to the primary coil of the MCS and compensating the primary and secondary sides of the air-cored coils with series-series capacitors, the 3 kW single-phase and 22 kW three-phase IPT systems modelled using MATLAB/Simulink are capable of delivering the electricity needed to power the Renault ZOE.Finally, in order to recommend a suitable and cost-efficient MCS model that can help transfer electric power more efficiently for the battery charging of EVs and E-bikes, a 3-D finite element analysis (FEA) package called COMSOL multiphysics is used to design, compute and investigate a more complex and realistic MCS model of LIPT systems. The designed MCS models incorporate air-cored coils with proper configuration of magnetic cores (e.g. ferrite), structural steel covering for the bottom part of the primary coil and top part of the secondary coil and lastly, iron plate which serves as a covering for the primary coil installed underground and the chassis or underbody structure of EVs. The performance of the designed models are determined by the values of the mutual inductance and induced voltage obtained from COMSOL., Compte tenu du contexte économique du marché des hydrocarbures et les problématiques environnementales, le développement des véhicules électriques (VE) prend de l’ampleur car ils sont considérés comme plus écologiques. Aujourd’hui, les véhicules électriques sont considérés comme une solution favorable pour une énergie plus verte. L'électricité qu'ils consomment peut être générée à partir d'un large éventail de sources qui comprennent les combustibles fossiles, l'énergie nucléaire et les énergies renouvelables. Toutefois, les utilisateurs et les propriétaires de véhicules électriques ont encore des réticences car cela nécessite un stockage d'énergie électrique à bord pour assurer une bonne autonomie.Le système de transfert de puissance par effet inductif (LIPT en anglais) est une nouvelle technologie qui permet le transfert d'énergie électrique par champ magnétique et un système de bobines primaires et secondaires. Le champ magnétique est un champ haute-fréquence à plusieurs dizaines de kilohertz. Par rapport au système de câble conventionnel, le système LIPT est capable de fournir une recharge qui est pratique mais également efficace des véhicules électriques. Cependant, actuellement son principal facteur limitant est la mauvaise performance de sa structure de couplage magnétique (MCS). L’objectif de cette thèse est d'améliorer la performance des systèmes MCS pour les systèmes de LIPT afin de concevoir des systèmes à meilleur rendement.Dans un premier temps, sur la base de modèles mathématiques issus de la littérature, un code Matlab a été mis en œuvre pour calculer l'inductance mutuelle des systèmes de bobines mise en jeu dans le MCS. Puis, le calcul et la validation expérimentale des champs magnétiques entre le primaire et le secondaire a été effectué.Dans un second temps, un modèle d'un système LIPT pour la charge d’une batterie de véhicule électrique est présenté. Sur la base des spécifications techniques d’une Renault ZOE, les résultats obtenus montrent que, en adaptant la fréquence de la bobine primaire et en compensant avec un système série-série de condensateurs, un système à 3 kW et un système à 22 kW peuvent atteindre des performances permettant la recharge d’une Renault Zoe dans de bonnes conditions.Enfin, une analyse par éléments finis (FEA) sous COMSOL est développée pour la conception, le calcul et l’optimisation de systèmes MCS plus complexes de nouveaux LIPT. Les modèles de MCS conçus intègrent des bobines d'air évidées avec des configurations appropriées de noyaux magnétiques (par exemple en ferrite), avec des études également sur des parties couvrantes des bobines primaires et secondaires en acier. Les performances des modèles conçus sont déterminées par les valeurs de l'inductance mutuelle et la tension induite qui sont deux critères d’évaluations.

Abstract: International audience; The etiology of congenital heart defect (CHD) combines environmental and genetic factors. So far, there were studies reporting on the screening of a single gene on unselected CHD or on familial cases selected for specific CHD types. Our goal was to systematically screen a proband of familial cases of CHD on a set of genetic tests to evaluate the prevalence of disease-causing variant identification. A systematic screening of GATA4, NKX2-5, ZIC3 and Multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA) P311 Kit was setup on the proband of 154 families with at least two cases of non-syndromic CHD. Additionally, ELN screening was performed on families with supravalvular arterial stenosis. Twenty-two variants were found, but segregation analysis confirmed unambiguously the causality of 16 variants: GATA4 (1 x), NKX2-5 (6 x), ZIC3 (3 x), MLPA (2 x) and ELN (4 x). Therefore, this approach was able to identify the causal variant in 10.4% of familial CHD cases. This study demonstrated the existence of a de novo variant even in familial CHD cases and the impact of CHD variants on adult cardiac condition even in the absence of CHD. This study showed that the systematic screening of genetic factors is useful in familial CHD cases with up to 10.4% elucidated cases. When successful, it drastically improved genetic counseling by discovering unaffected variant carriers who are at risk of transmitting their variant and are also exposed to develop cardiac complications during adulthood thus prompting long-term cardiac follow-up. This study provides an important baseline at dawning of the next-generation sequencing era.

Abstract: The indoor air pollution awareness of general public and the increasing demands of regulations / recommendations, combined with a need to stand out from the competition, make limiting the concentration of VOCs (VOCs : volatile organic compounds ) in the air cockpit crucial for the automotive industry. For example, inside a vehicle, the VOCs are originated from the outside air by combustion and evaporation of fuel. However, unlike other pollutants, it may also have an inner origin from the desorption of existing chemical substances used in the manufacture of the vehicle. Thus, the capture of VOCs by adsorption is one of the challenging techniques today. In this context, activated carbon and zeolite based VOC abatement are effective and least expensive but suffers some limitations in stability, selectivity and regeneration. The aim of this thesis was to study an alternative class of 'hybrid' adsorbents i.e. Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs). These porous crystalline materials are built by the association of inorganic bricks connected by organic ligands. They have highly tunable structural diversity,chemical composition (metal:ligand) and porosity (pore size, surface area and pore volume). Moreover, they possess almost infinite ability to vary both the metal center and the organic ligand that is not found at this level in zeolites and activated carbons. The work was to evaluate the performance of a series of ten MOFs, having diverse architecture (size and shape of the pores, rigid or flexible networks ...), chemical properties (acidity, redox, hydrophilic / hydrophobic, ...) and stability (water temperature). In addition to the usual characterization (X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, infrared spectroscopy, porosimetry N2 at 77K), Infra-Red spectroscopy operando was performed to simulate the behavior of these MOFs in the presence of VOCs in conditions as close as possible to the reality. Furthermore, the most promising adsorbents were scaled up (50-100 g) and formatted/fabricated as pellets and tested for environmental simulation chamber., La sensibilisation du grand public à la pollution intérieure, les exigences croissantes des réglementations/recommandations le tout combiné à une nécessité de se démarquer de la concurrence, font de la limitation de la concentration des COV (COV : Composés Organiques Volatiles) dans l’air habitacle un enjeu crucial pour l’industrie automobile. En effet, à l’intérieur des véhicules, les COV sont principalement issus de l’air extérieur par combustion et évaporation du carburant mais, contrairement aux autres polluants, peuvent également avoir une origine intérieure à l’habitacle de par la désorption de substances chimiques utilisées lors de la fabrication des matériaux présents dans le véhicule. La capture des COV par adsorption sur charbons actifs ou zéolithes est à ce jour l’une des techniques d’abattement des COVs les plus efficaces et les moins coûteuses mais souffre de certaines limitations (sélectivité, régénération). L’objectif de cette thèse a consisté à étudier une alternative avec l’emploi d’une autre classe d’adsorbants ‘hybrides’ : les Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs). Formés de briques inorganiques connectées par des ligands organiques, ces matériaux poreux cristallisés présentent une grande diversité structurale ainsi qu’une composition chimique (métal, ligand) et une porosité (taille des pores, surface spécifique et volume poreux) extrêmement modulables. Cela vient de la possibilité quasi-infinie de faire varier à la fois le centre métallique et le ligand organique, ce que l’on ne retrouve pas à cette échelle chez les zéolithes et les charbons actifs. Le travail a consisté à évaluer les performances d’une série d’une dizaine de MOFs, possédant des propriétés chimiques (acidité, redox, hydrophiles/hydrophobes, …) et structurales (taille et forme des pores, réseaux rigides ou flexibles…) différenciées mais aussi de leur stabilité avérée (eau, température) et mise à l’échelle déjà établie. En plus des caractérisations usuelles (diffraction des rayons X, analyse thermogravimétrique, spectroscopie Infra-Rouge, porosimétrie N2 à 77K), la spectroscopie Infra-Rouge operando a été utilisée pour simuler le comportement de ces MOFs en présence de COV dans des conditions aussi proches que possible de la réalité. Les adsorbants les plus prometteurs ont ensuite été mis à l’échelle (50-100 g) et mis en forme (pastilles) puis testés en chambre de simulation environnementale.

Abstract: International audience; Purpose - Treacher Collins/Franceschetti syndrome (TCS; OMIM 154500) is a disorder of craniofacial development belonging to the heterogeneous group of mandibulofacial dysostoses. TCS is classically characterized by bilateral mandibular and malar hypoplasia, downward-slanting palpebral fissures, and microtia. To date, three genes have been identified in TCS:,TCOF1, POLR1D, and POLR1C. Methods - We report a clinical and extensive molecular study, including TCOF1, POLR1D, POLR1C, and EFTUD2 genes, in a series of 146 patients with TCS. Phenotype-genotype correlations were investigated for 19 clinical features, between TCOF1 and POLR1D, and the type of mutation or its localization in the TCOF1 gene. Results - We identified 92/146 patients (63%) with a molecular anomaly within TCOF1, 9/146 (6%) within POLR1D, and none within POLR1C. Among the atypical negative patients (with intellectual disability and/or microcephaly), we identified four patients carrying a mutation in EFTUD2 and two patients with 5q32 deletion encompassing TCOF1 and CAMK2A in particular. Congenital cardiac defects occurred more frequently among patients with TCOF1 mutation (7/92, 8%) than reported in the literature. Conclusion - Even though TCOF1 and POLR1D were associated with extreme clinical variability, we found no phenotype-genotype correlation. In cases with a typical phenotype of TCS, 6/146 (4%) remained with an unidentified molecular defect.

Abstract: International audience; The SARAL/AltiKa mission is a complement of the Jason altimeter series. A two-channels (23.8 GHz and 37 GHz) microwave radiometer (MWR) is combined to the altimeter in order to correct the altimeter range for the excess path delay (referred as WTC for wet tropospheric correction. First, the in-flight calibration of AltiKa MWR is assessed from a systematic comparison to other radiometers using a complete set of metrics (comparison to simulations and over geophysical targets). Then the “mixed” empirical approach successfully used for Envisat shows nonoptimal performances for the WTC retrieval. In order to find the potential sources of issues, this method is compared to a purely empirical relationship established between measured brightness temperatures (TB) and altimeter backscattering coefficient ($\sigma_{0}$) on one hand and modeled WTC on the other hand. Various retrieval configurations for both AltiKa MWR and advanced microwave radiometer (AMR) on Jason-2, are for the first time systematically compared with respect to their performances against the variance of sea surface height differences at crossovers. Finally, the issues on the “mixed” approach are attributed to the differences between simulated and measured at Ka-band. Now, a configuration of the empirical approach proved to have performances closed to what is initially expected with the “mixed” approach.

Abstract: Host–guest assemblies open up opportunities for developing novel functional CLUSPOM multicomponent systems based on transition metal clusters (CLUS), polyoxometalates (POMs) and macrocyclic organic ligands. In water–ethanol solution γ-cyclodextrin (γ-CD) interacts with halide metal clusters [M6Cl14]2– (M = Mo, W) to form sandwich-type structures. The supramolecular association between the clusters and CDs, however, remains weak in solution, and the interactions are not strong enough to prevent the hydrolysis of the inorganic guest. Although analysis of the resulting crystal structures reveals inclusion complexation, 1H NMR experiments in solution show no specific affinity between the two components. The luminescent properties of the host–guest compounds in comparison with the initial cluster complexes are also studied to evaluate the influence of CD.

Abstract: International audience; The emission of polar volatile organic compounds (VOCs) is a major worldwide concern of air quality and equally impacts the preservation of cultural heritage (CH). The challenge is to design highly efficient adsorbents able to selectively capture traces of VOCs such as acetic acid (AA) in the presence of relative humidity (RH) normally found at storage in museums (40-80%). Although the selective capture of VOCs over water is still challenging, Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) possess highly tunable features (Lewis, Bronsted or redox metal sites, functional groups, hydrophobicity…) suitable to selectively capture a large variety of VOCs. In this context, we have explored the adsorption efficiency of a series of MOFs thin films (ZIF-8(Zn), MIL-101(Cr) and UiO-66(Zr)-2CF3) for the selective capture of AA based on a UV/Vis and FT-IR spectroscopic ellip-sometry in operando study (2-6% of relative pressure of AA under 40% of RH), namely conditions close to the realistic envi-ronmental storage conditions of cultural artefacts. For that purpose, optical quality thin films of MOFs were prepared by dip-coating and their AA adsorption capacity and selectivity were evaluated under humid conditions by measuring the variation of the refractive index as a function of the vapor pressures while the chemical nature of the co-adsorbed analytes (water and AA) was identified by FT-IR ellipsometry. While thin films of ZIF-8(Zn) strongly degraded when exposed to AA/water va-pors, films of MIL-101(Cr) and UiO-66(Zr)-2CF3 present a high chemical stability under those conditions. It was shown that MIL-101(Cr) presents a high AA adsorption capacity due to its high pore volume, but exhibits a poor AA adsorption selectivi-ty under humid conditions. In contrast, UiO-66(Zr)-2CF3 was shown to overpass MIL-101(Cr) in terms of AA/ H2O adsorp-tion selectivity and AA adsorption/desorption cycling stability thanks to its high hydrophobic character, suitable pore size for adequate confinement and specific interactions.

Abstract: International audience; This work shows why it is imperious to use an excess of butyllithium for a directed ortho-lithiation of a trifluoromethyl sulfoximine. The analysis of mixtures of n-BuLi and sulfoximine 1 in THF-d8 using {1H, 6Li, 13C, 15N, 19F} NMR experiments at low temperatures reveal that a first deprotonation occurs that leads to dimeric and tetrameric N-lithiated sulfoximine (93 : 7). Using an excess n-BuLi (5 equivalents), the second deprotonation on the ortho-position of the aromatic occurs. Six species were observed and characterized on the way. It includes three aggregates involving a sulfoximine: i) a [dilithiated sulfoximine/(n-BuLi)] dimer solvated by four molecules of THF (Agg2, 39 %); ii) a [dilithiated sulfoximine/(n-BuLi)3] tetramer solvated by six molecules of THF (Agg3, 39 %); iii) a [dilithiated sulfoximine/(n-BuOLi)3] tetramer solvated by four molecules of THF (Agg1, 22 %). A DFT study afforded optimized solvated structures for all these aggregates, fully consistent with the NMR data

Abstract: International audience; Modeling the mononuclear site of copper enzymes is important for a better understanding of the factors controlling the reactivity of the metal center. A major difficulty stems from the difficult control of the nuclearity while maintaining free sites open to coordination of exogenous ligands. A supramolecular approach consists in associating a hydrophobic cavity to a tripodal ligand that will define the coordination spheres as well as access to the metal ion. Here, we describe the synthesis of a bowl Cu-II complex based on the resorcinarene scaffold. This study supplements a previous work on Cu-I coordination. It provides a complete picture of the cavity-copper system in its two oxidation states. The first XRD structure of such a bowl complex was obtained, evidencing a 5-coordinate Cu-II ion with the three imidazole donors bound to the metal (two in the base of the pyramid, one in the apical position) and with an acetate anion, completing the base of the pyramid, and deeply included in the bowl. Solution studies conducted by EPR and UV-vis absorption spectroscopies as well as cyclic voltammetry highlighted interaction with coordinating solvents, various carboxylates that can sit either in the endo or in the exo position depending on their size as well as possible stabilization of hydroxo species in a mononuclear state. A comparison of the binding and redox properties of the bowl complex with funnel complexes based on the calix[6]arene core further highlights the importance of supramolecular features defining the first, second, and third coordination sphere for control of the metal ion.

Abstract: International audience; Anion recognition represents an intense area of research in supramolecular chemistry. The last two decades have been marked by spectacular advances in the design of new anion receptors. Moreover, the development of approaches combining experimental and theoretical studies has proved to be particularly relevant, allowing a better understanding and rationalization of the phenomena involved in anion complexation processes. In this context, the combination of weak interactions within the same receptor and their synergistic effects, called cooperativity, has attracted increasing interest within the scientific community. This review focuses on the combination of anion-π and hydrogen bonds and the emerging concept of cooperativity. The most relevant anion-π donor families are presented. The concept of cooperativity is illustrated using the most recent examples present in current literature.

Abstract: International audience; Modulation and fine-tuning of the strength of weak interactions to bind anions are described in a series of synthetic receptors. The general design of the receptors includes both a urea motif and a tetrazine motif. The synthetic sequence towards three receptors is detailed. Impacts of H-bond strength and linker length between urea and tetrazine on chloride complexation are studied. Binding properties of the chloride anion are examined in both the ground and excited states using a panel of analytical methods (NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, UV/Visible spectroscopies, and fluorescence). A ranking of the receptors by complexation strength has been determined, allowing a better understanding of the structure-properties relationship on these compounds.

Abstract: International audience; A series of enantioenriched 4,5,6,7-tetrahydrofuro[2,3-b]pyridines were accessed by a cycloisomerization/cycloaddition strategy. Starting from ynamide derivatives and aldehydes, yields ranging from 27 to 90% and high levels of stereoselectivity (de>95%, 93–99% ee) were obtained through sequential relay catalysis. The concurrent use of a gold complex with a diphenylprolinol silyl ether was applied to a combination of diversely functionalized substrates.

Abstract: Ethynylbenziodoxol(on)e (EBX) cyclic hypervalent iodine reagents have become popular reagents for the alkynylation of radicals and nucleophiles, but only offer limited possibilities for further structure and reactivity fine‐tuning. Herein, the synthesis of new N‐heterocyclic hypervalent iodine reagents with increased structural flexibility based on amide, amidine and sulfoximine scaffolds is reported. Solid‐state structures of the reagents are reported and the analysis of the I−Calkyne bond lengths allowed assessing the trans‐effect of the different substituents. Molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) maps of the reagents, derived from DFT computations, revealed less pronounced σ‐hole regions for sulfonamide‐based compounds. Most reagents reacted well in the alkynylation of β‐ketoesters. The alkynylation of thiols afforded more variable yields, with compounds with a stronger σ‐hole reacting better. In metal‐mediated transformations, the N‐heterocyclic hypervalent iodine reagents gave inferior results when compared to the O‐based EBX reagents., Four new N‐heterocyclic alkynyl hypervalent iodine reagents have been synthesized. Their structures and reactivity are described and compared to already reported cyclic hypervalent iodine reagents, showing less extended σ holes for tosylated reagents. Good alkyne transfer properties towards strong nucleophiles were observed, but applications in radical and metal‐catalyzed processes were more limited.

Abstract: This paper describes the use of TIRF microscopy coupled to electrochemistry to investigate the electrofluorochromic properties of a new bipyidine–phenanthroline ruthenium complex. A reversible electrochemical modulation of luminescence is observed when applying potential steps between the reduced emitting state and the oxidized non emitting one. Variations of intensity and lifetimes along the potential steps are analyzed to understand the mechanism of this switch. It is shown that a quenching mechanism occurs upon electrooxidation that accounts for the fast luminescence switch process. Abstract: International audience; The unprecedented combined reduction of chloroauric acid and capping of the resulting gold nanoparticles in the absence of an external reducing agent are demonstrated using a novel heteroleptic Ir(III) complex incorporating a 4,5-diazafluorenedithiolate ligand. The reduction process in basic medium results from a cascade mechanism involving oxidation of the ligand, reduction of the gold salt, and stabilization and functionalization of the gold nanoparticles.

Abstract: International audience; The synthesis and characterization of a polyrotaxanated covalent organic network (CON) based on the association between the viologen and pillar[5]arene (P[5]OH) units are reported. The mechanical bond allows for the irreversible insertion of n-type redox centers (P[5]OH macrocycles) within a pristine structure based on p-type viologen redox centers. Both redox units are active on a narrow potential range and, in water, the presence of P[5]OH greatly increases the electroactivity of the material.

Abstract: International audience; The synthesis of molecules bearing (trifluoromethylselenyl)methylchalcogenyl groups is described via an efficient two-step strategy based on a metal-free photoredox catalyzed decarboxylative trifluoromethylselenolation with good yields up to 88% which raised to 98% in flow chemistry conditions. The flow methods allowed also to scale up the reaction. The mechanism of this key reaction was studied. The physico-chemical characterization of these emerging groups was performed by determining their Hansch-Leo lipophilicity parameters with high values up to 2.24. This reaction was also extended to perfluoroalkylselenolation with yields up to 95%. Finally, this method was successfully applied to the functionalization of relevant bioactive molecules such as tocopherol or estrone derivatives.

Abstract: International audience; We designed monodisperse and perfectly shaped core/shell AuNP@Mo4Zol2Mn nanohybrids consisting of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) functionalized by an antitumoral polyoxometalate (POM) incorporating the biologically active zoledronate ligand. After incubation, the nanoparticles were readily confined in the endosomal compartments of PC3 human prostate adenocarcinoma cells. Under photothermal treatment, the metabolic activity drastically decreased at concentrations where the nanohybrids exhibited no anticancer activity in the dark, and almost all cancer cells were killed at concentrations at which zoledronate alone was totally inactive. This study evidences for the first time that AuNPs capped by POMs can represent excellent candidates for combined chemotherapy and photothermal cancer therapy.

Abstract: International audience; Highly enantio- and regioselective (3 + 2) formal cycloaddition of β-substituted ene- and thioenecarbamates as well as cyclic enamides with quinone diimides catalyzed by a BINOL- and SPINOL-derived phosphoric acid is reported. A wide variety of 2,3-disubstituted 2-aminoindolines, including polycyclic ones, were prepared in generally high yields (up to 98%) with moderate to complete diastereoselectivities and in most cases excellent enantioselectivities (up to 99% ee).

Abstract: Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs)/graphene oxide (GO) composites are of growing interest due to their properties which can exceed those of the pure components, including post-combustion CO2 capture. Series of composites suitable for CO2 capture under flue gas conditions based on the microporous water stable MIL-91(Ti) have been prepared with different GO contents, following two routes, in situ and post-synthetic. It was observed that the 5 wt% GO in situ composite exhibits a semi-conducting behavior, while the post-synthetic materials are insulating, even with high (20 wt%) GO content. As a consequence, this composite absorbs microwave radiation more efficiently compared to the pure MOF and post-synthetic materials. Finally, we report that CO2 desorption is much faster under microwave irradiation compared to direct electric heating on MOF/GO in situ materials, paving the way for future energy-saving microwave swing adsorption processes.

Abstract: Molecular recognition by calix[6]arene-based receptors bearing three primary alkylamino side chain arms (1) is described. Complexation of Zn(II) ion provides the dinuclear mu-hydroxo complex 2G(OH), XRD characterization of which, together with solution studies, provided evidence of its hosting of neutral polar organic guests G. Treatment of this complex with a carboxylic acid or a sulfonamide (XH) results in the formation of mononuclear species 3G(X), one of which (X = Cl) has been characterized by XRD. A dicationic complex 3G(RNH2) is obtained upon treatment of 2G(OH) with a mixture of an alkylamine and a strong acid. Each of these Zn(II) complexes features a tetrahedral metal ion bound to the three amino arms of ligand 1 and to an exogenous ligand (either HO-, X-, or RNH2) sitting outside of the cavity. As a result, the metal ion structures the calixarene core, constraining it in a cone conformation suitable for guest hosting. The receptor properties of these compounds have been explored in detail and are compared with those of the trisammonium receptor 1G(3H+), based on the same calixarene core, as well as those of the trisimidazole-based dicationic Zn funnel complexes. This study reveals very different host properties, in spite of the common hydrophobic, pi-basic, and hydrogen-bonding acceptor properties of the calixarene cores. A harder external ligand produces a less polarized receptor that is consequently particularly sensitive to the hydrogen-bonding ability of its guest. The less electron-rich the apical ligand, and a fortiori the trisammonium host, the more sensitive the receptor to the dipole moment of the guest. All this stands in contrast with the funnel Zn complexes, in which the coordination link plays a dominant role. It is also shown that the asymmetry of an exo-coordinated enantiopure amino ligand is sensed by the guest. This supramolecular system nicely illustrates how the receptor properties of a hydrophobic cavity can be allosterically tuned by the environment.

Abstract: We report on the synthesis, structure, and physicochemical characterization of the first three examples of neutral palladium‐oxo clusters (POCs). The 16‐palladium(II)‐oxo cluster [Pd16O24(OH)8((CH3)2As)8] (Pd16) comprises a cyclic palladium‐oxo unit capped by eight dimethylarsinate groups. The chloro‐derivative [Pd16Na2O26(OH)3 Cl3 ((CH3)2 As)8] (Pd16Cl) was also prepared, which forms a highly stable 3D supramolecular lattice via strong intermolecular interactions. The 24‐palladium(II)‐oxo cluster [Pd24O44(OH)8((CH3)2As)16] (Pd24) can be considered as a bicapped derivative of Pd16 with a tetra‐palladium‐oxo unit grafted on either side. The three compounds were fully characterized 1) in the solid state by single‐crystal and powder XRD, IR, TGA, and solid‐state 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy, 2) in solution by 1H, 13C NMR and 1H DOSY spectroscopic methods, and 3) in the gas phase by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI‐MS)., The first three examples of neutral palladium‐oxo clusters (POCs), Pd16, Pd16Cl, and Pd24, were prepared by simple open‐pot, room‐temperature reactions of palladium(II) salts in sodium dimethylarsinate aqueous solutions. The dimethylarsinate capping groups act as bidentate, monoanionic ligands for the various palladium‐oxo cores. The three POCs were fully characterized in the solid, solution, and gaseous states by a multitude of physicochemical techniques.

Abstract: International audience; The transformation of glycals into 2,3-unsaturated glycosyl derivatives, reported by Ferrier in 1962, is supposed to involve an α,β unsaturated glycosyl cation, an elusive ionic species that has still to be observed experimentally. Herein, while combination of TfOH and flow conditions failed to observe this ionic species, its extended lifetime in superacid solutions allowed its characterization by NMRbased structural analysis, supported by DFT calculations. This allyloxycarbenium ion was further exploited in the Ferrier rearrangement to afford unsaturated nitrogen-containing C-aryl glycosides and C-alkyl glycosides under superacid and flow conditions respectively.

Abstract: Proceedings of the 18th European Conference on Applications of Surface and Interface Analysis (ECASIA '19), Dresden, Germany, September 15-20, 2019; International audience; Cu(In,Ga)Se2 absorbers were immerged in deionized water for different times, and specific chemical evolutions were monitored thanks to X-ray photoemission spectroscopy. Cu(In,Ga)Se2 related dissolution products were studied in water through induced coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy. From those analyses, specific surface network disorganization was observed, with Cu migration towards the surface, leading to different kinetics of oxidation and dissolution for each element that could be quantified.

Abstract: In the field of stimuli-responsive luminescent materials, mechanochromic compounds exhibiting reversible emission color changes activated by mechanical stimulation present appealing perspectives in sensor applications. The mechanochromic luminescence properties of the molecular cubane copper iodide cluster [Cu4I4[PPh2(C6H4-CH2OH)]4] (1) are reported in this study. This compound can form upon melting an amorphous phase, giving an unprecedented opportunity to investigate the mechanochromism phenomenon. Because the mechanically induced crystalline-to-amorphous transition is only partial, the completely amorphous phase represents the ultimate state of the mechanically altered phase. Furthermore, the studied compound could form two different crystalline polymorphs, namely, [Cu4I4[PPh2(C6H4-CH2OH)]4]·C2H3N (1·CH3CN) and [Cu4I4[PPh2(C6H4-CH2OH)]4]·3C4H8O (1·THF), allowing the establishment of straightforward structure-property relationships. Photophysical and structural characterizations of 1 in different states were performed, and the experimental data were supported by theoretical investigations. Solid-state NMR analysis permitted quantification of the amorphous part in the mechanically altered phase. IR and Raman analysis enabled identification of the spectroscopic signatures of each state. Density functional theory calculations led to assignment of both the NMR characteristics and the vibrational bands. Rationalization of the photoluminescence properties was also conducted, with simulation of the phosphorescence spectra allowing an accurate interpretation of the thermochromic luminescence properties of this family of compounds. The combined study of crystalline polymorphism and the amorphous state allowed us to get deeper into the mechanochromism mechanism that implies changes of the [Cu4I4] cluster core geometry. Through the combination of multistimuli-responsive properties, copper iodide clusters constitute an appealing class of compounds toward original functional materials.

Abstract: International audience; We report herein a novel photoredox-catalyzed synthesis of allylic trifluoromethanes. The use of sulfilimino iminium as a source of trifluoromethyl radicals proves crucial to achieving high selectivity. Importantly, both styrene derivatives and unactivated alkenes are for the first time suitable partners for this process. The mild reaction conditions are compatible with a variety of functional groups. Remarkably, this method is readily broadened to other perfluoroalkyl groups (RF=CFCl2, CF2Br, C4F9). An extensive mechanistic study is also provided.

Abstract: In the title quinoxaline molecule, the dihedral angle angle between the benzene rings is 72.54 (15)°. In the crystal, molecules are connected into chains extending parallel to (10) by weak C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds., The title quinoxaline molecule, C23H20N2O2, is not planar, the dihedral angle angle between the mean planes of the benzene rings being 72.54 (15)°. In the crystal, molecules are connected into chains extending parallel to (10) by weak C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds. Weak C—H⋯π interactions link the chains, forming a three-dimensional network structure. Hirshfeld surface analysis revealed that the most important contributions for the crystal packing are from H⋯H (48.7%), H⋯C/C⋯H (32.0%), H⋯O/O⋯H (15.4%), C⋯C (1.9%), H⋯N/N⋯H (1.1%) contacts.

We showed previously that In0.2Al0.8N/GaN heterostructures, annealed at 850°C under O2 partial pressure, present a specific in-depth organization. Abstract: International audience; The preservation of bronze and copper heritage objects is challenging. Exposure to water or pollution in outdoor conditions leads to corrosion phenomena, which can highly degrade the objects or structures. We aim to develop an alternative nontoxic corrosion inhibiting treatment, based on the use of a carboxylate (HC10) treatment. Electron spectroscopies (X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy and scanning Auger microscopy) are used to determine, from micrometric to nanometric scale, the composition and chemical environments (oxidation degrees) of the copper compounds commonly found in the corrosion product layer. In the present study, we focus on the evaluation of X‐ray beam irradiation damage when performing surface analysis on cuprite, brochantite, and Cu decanoate reference samples. The reduction phenomenon has already been reported, especially for Cu(II) compounds, but not clearly explained. Different behavior has been observed depending on the X‐ray source used, and the nature and hydration level of the compounds. The photoreduction issue is critical, as it guarantees the reliability of the chemical information obtained and sheds light on the best analysis pathway to adopt when multitechnique analyses are implemented. An analytical procedure is employed to track the reduction of Cu(II) reference samples during XPS analysis evidencing practically instantaneous modifications of the spectra and thus, the instability of these phases except for the dehydrated cuprite sample.

Abstract: International audience; Dimethylsulfoniopropionate (DMSP) is a key compound in the marine sulfur cycle, and is produced in large quantities in coral reefs. In addition to Symbiodiniaceae, corals and associated bacteria have recently been shown to play a role in DMSp metabolism. numerous ecological studies have focused on DMSP concentrations in corals, which led to the hypothesis that increases in DMSP levels might be a general response to stress. Here we used multiple species assemblages of three common Indo-Pacific holobionts, the scleractinian corals Pocillopora damicornis and Acropora cytherea, and the giant clam Tridacna maxima and examined the DMSP concentrations associated with each species within different assemblages and thermal conditions. Results showed that the concentration of DMSp in A. cytherea and T. maxima is modulated according to the complexity of species assemblages. to determine the potential importance of symbiotic dinoflagellates in DMSP production, we then explored the relative abundance of Symbiodiniaceae clades in relation to DMSP levels using metabarcoding, and found no significant correlation between these factors. Finally, this study also revealed the existence of homologs involved in DMSP production in giant clams, suggesting for the first time that, like corals, they may also contribute to DMSP production. Taken together, our results demonstrated that corals and giant clams play important roles in the sulfur cycle. Because DMSp production varies in response to specific species-environment interactions, this study offers new perspectives for future global sulfur cycling research.

Abstract: The deposition of polyelectrolyte multilayers, obtained by the layer-by-layer (LbL) method, is a well-established technology to design biocompatible and antibacterial coatings aimed at preventing implant-associated infections. Several types of LbL films have been reported to exhibit antiadhesive and/or antibacterial (contact-killing or release-killing) properties governed not only by the incorporated compounds but also by their buildup conditions or their postbuildup treatments. Tannic acid (TA), a natural polyphenol, is known to inhibit the growth of several bacterial strains. In this work, we developed TA/collagen (TA/COL) LbL films built in acetate or citrate buffers at pH 4. Surprisingly, the used buffer impacts not only the physicochemical but also the antibacterial properties of the films. When incubated in physiological conditions, both types of TA/COL films released almost the same amount of TA depending on the last layer and showed an antibacterial effect against Staphylococcus aureus only for citrate-built films. Because of their granular topography, TA/COL citrate films exhibited an efficient release-killing effect with no cytotoxicity toward human gingival fibroblasts. Emphasis is put on a comprehensive evaluation of the physicochemical parameters driving the buildup and the antibacterial property of citrate films. Specifically, complexation strengths between TA and COL are different in the presence of the two buffers affecting the LbL deposition. This work constitutes an important step toward the use of polyphenols as an antibacterial agent when incorporated in LbL films.

Abstract: For the last several generations of CMOS technology, copper has been used widely as an interconnect material in the back end of the line (BEOL). [1] [2] [3] As the current nodes technology are decreasing continuously, several copper scaling challenges appeared such as the Cu barrier thinning, the copper electromigration... [4] [5] Hence, cobalt and ruthenium are proposed as replacement materials. Recently, Co has made inroads in microelectronics, specifically on-chip metallization, serving as a capping layer for Cu to diminish electromigration but also provide a better conductivity for line width inferior to 10 nm [6] [7] [8]. In this very challenging context, the control of Co surface oxidation process is strategic. Conformal Co seed characteristics (i.e electronic conductivity), preceding the following filling chemistry, are partially related to its surface oxide. Its understanding, then its control, will be determinant to access to a perfect and reliable filling of the nodes. To collect quantitative information, we carefully investigate the behavior of a pure Co metallic surface which is exposed to air oxidation. For this purpose, we have used a 400nm thick Co layer electrochemically plated using Kari© aveni acidic chemistry. The Co layer is electrochemically deposited on Co seed (3nm) /Ta/TaN barrier/Tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS). The latter, with its native oxide, is introduced in ultra-high vacuum (UHV) of a XPS Nexsa ThermoFisher spectrometer. Then, a totally deoxidized Co surface is obtained with a argon beam sputtering. The initial free oxide bulk metallic Co is then checked by XPS. Starting from this surface, we explore again by XPS, consequences of different air exposure times using the entrance prepation chamber of the spectrometer. According to the time air-exposure, the kinetic of the oxide growth mechanism can be evaluated. Our work shows clearly that the metallic Co surface evolves very quickly to an ultra-thin ( Moreover, a simulation of behaviors of this oxide surface coverage immersed in acidic solution will be proposed to understand how an ultra-thin Co seed layer interacts in Co filling solution. Abstract: Musk odorants are ubiquitous in fine perfumery as well as household products, and are divided into four main families, the nitromusks, the macrocyclic musks, the polycyclic aromatic musks, and the alicyclic musks, following their order of appearance on the perfumery market. This article presents the scientific and industrial adventures during the discovery of the seven commercial polycyclic musks, which invigorated the aroma chemistry corporations during the second half of the 20th century, resulting in relentless competition. Research and development strategies are exposed, and reactivity, analytical, mechanistic, and structure-activity relationships aspects are discussed as well as some biographical elements of the main scientific actors, and some fine perfumery examples are given as illustrations of their use.

Abstract: International audience; Here we propose an innovative strategy to synthesize single-crystal nanowires (NWs) of the Al 3+ dicarboxylate MIL-69(Al) MOF by using graphene oxide nanoscrolls as structure directing agents. MIL-69(Al) NWs with an average diameter of 70 ± 20 nm and lengths up to 2 m were found to preferentially grow along the [001] crystallographic direction. Advanced characterization tools (electron diffraction, TEM, STEM-HAADF, SEM, XPS) and molecular modelling revealed the mechanism of formation of MIL-69(Al) NWs involving size-confinement and templating effects. The formation of MIL-69(Al) seeds and the self-scroll of GO sheets followed by the anisotropic growth of MIL-69(Al) crystals are mediated by specific GO sheets/MOF interactions. This study delivers an unprecedented approach to control the design of 1D MOF nanostructures and superstructures.

Abstract: Kinetics studies for the coupling reactions of the 3-X-thiophene 1a-c (X = CH3, H and Br) with the electrophiles 2a and 3a-c have been investigated in acetonitrile at 20°C The second-order rate constants have been employed to determine the nucleophilicity parameters N and s of the thiophene 1 according the Mayr equation log k (20°C) = s (E + N). The nucleophilic-specific parameters N and s quantified in this work have been derived and compared with the reactivity of other C nucleophiles. Based on the linear correlations log k1 = f(E) and log k1 = f(σp+), we have shown that the mechanism of interactions occurs by a unique process: electrophilic heteroaromatic substitution of an α-carbon position of substituted 3-X-thiophenes 1 known hyperortho correlation.

Abstract: International audience; The integration of functional thin film materials with adapted properties is essential for the development of new paradigms in information technology. Among them, complex oxides with perovskite structures have huge potential based on the particularly large diversity of physical properties. Here we demonstrate the possibility of transferring perovskite oxide materials like SrTiO 3 onto silicon substrate using an environmentally friendly process at nanoscale, by means of a water-soluble perovskite sacrificial layer: SrVO 3. Based on in situ monitoring atomic force microscopy and photoemission studies, we reveal that dissolution is initiated from a strontium rich phase at the extreme surface of SrVO 3. The transferred nanothick SrTiO 3 layer on silicon presents an effective morphology and monocrystalline quality, providing a proof of concept for the integration and development of an all perovskite oxide electronics or "oxitronics" onto any Si-based substrates.

Abstract: International audience; Zirconium tetramandelate (2-hydroxy-2-phenylacetate) has been used for selective gravimetric analysis of zirconium for over 70 years. Herein its crystal structure is reported from synchrotron powder X-ray diffraction and 13 C solid-state NMR. The complex is a rare example of isolated zirconium cations, rather than the clusters prevalent in aqueous solutions.
