5. A case of drug-induced hypersensitivity syndrome (DIHS)/drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) following stomatitis

Abstract

Drug-induced hypersensitivity syndrome/drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DIHS/DRESS) is a severe form of drug-related rash with distinct features. This condition is characterized by late onset from specific causative drugs, and symptoms worsen despite discontinuation of the causative agent, followed by organ dysfunction. Notably, DIHS/DRESS results from the reactivation of human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6). Herein, we report a case of DIHS/DRESS in which rash, fever and liver dysfunction were observed during hospitalization for stomatitis, and HHV-6 reactivation was confirmed. A 67-year-old man who had been taking carbamazepine for the sequelae of cerebral hemorrhage was referred to our hospital because of pain in the oral mucosa. Initially, he was diagnosed with a herpes virus infection and treated with acyclovir. Afterward, despite improvement in stomatitis, papules appeared on the trunk of the body and worsened. The symptoms were accompanied by fever and liver dysfunction. Eventually, the patient developed decreased systolic blood pressure, tachypnea, and atrial fibrillation. After pulse steroid therapy was initiated, the patient’s clinical condition improved. Real-time polymerase chain reaction was performed suspecting with DIHS/DRESS, and HHV-6 DNA was detected. Based on this process, we diagnosed the patient with DIHS/DRESS induced by carbamazepine.

Abstract

Toward the construction of rechargeable batteries utilizing Zn metal has a high theoretical capacity, one of the solutions is to combine with the insertion/deinsertion of Na ions into/from hosts, but in the presence of two coexisting metal cations in dual‐salt electrolytes, it has been often left to spontaneity to determine which cations the host materials react with preferentially. The hybrid aqueous electrolytes containing 1 m Zn‐salt and 6 m Na‐salt were used, and the counter anions were TFSA− and Cl−, respectively. In the TFSA‐based electrolyte, the ligands for Zn ions and Na ions are water molecules to form positively‐charged hydrated cations. In contrast, for the Cl‐based electrolyte, Zn ions undergo partially solvation of Cl− to be stabilized as [ZnCl4(H2O)2]2− with negative charges while Na ions are predominantly hydrated. The galvanostatic discharge/charge tests, AC impedance measurements, and field‐emission electron probe micro analyzer revealed that in the Zn(TFSA)2/NaTFSA system, where both the cations are positively charged, Zn ions with higher charge density were inserted into the FePO4. On the other hand, in the ZnCl2/NaCl system, the FePO4 accommodated Na ions positively charged in the electrolyte solution rather than negatively charged Zn ions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

22. Superior Durability of Dissimilar Material Joint between Steel and Thermoplastic Resin with Roughened Electrodeposited Nickel Interlayer

Abstract

The durability of the dissimilar material joint between a steel coated with a roughened nickel plating-film and a thermoplastic resin is assessed. The roughened nickel film is fabricated by electrodeposition using carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as the roughening agent and a polyphenylenesulfide (PPS) resin as the thermoplastic resin. The plated steel and PPS resin are joined by injection molding without adhesive. The bonding strength is determined by a tensile lap shear strength test during the durability tests that includes a high-temperature and high-humidity test (85 +/- 2 degrees C, 85 +/- 2% relative humidity; 0-2000 h) and a thermal shock test (-50 degrees C-150 degrees C; 0-1000 cycles). During the high-temperature and high-humidity test, the bonding samples maintain their initial bonding strength (>40 MPa) even after 2000 h. By contrast, during the thermal shock test, although the bonding strength gradually decreases with increasing number of cycles, it remains above 20 MPa even after 1000 cycles. The mechanism of the deterioration of the bonding strength during the thermal shock test is analyzed in detail.
