Geographic Information Systems (GISs) cover a wide range of Earth and environmental science disciplines that have become essential for spatial data management, easing the digital transformation needs of our society. Despite the usefulness of GISs, they remain underutilised in academia, and many students do not understand the possibilities that these tools offer. To familiarise university students with the potential of GISs, we designed 11 short clips (less than 5 min long) recorded by Earth scientists with diverse backgrounds who shared their work experience with GISs to solve real-world problems. Through these short clips, we emphasised not only the multidisciplinary uses of GISs but also provided professional references for undergraduate students, including societal aspects such as gender equality, national and international mobility, private-to-public-sector transitioning, and different family circumstances. As a result, the students expressed their interest in the applications of GISs, many of which were completely new to them, highlighting the potential of GISs in terms of entrepreneurship and their usefulness in mitigating global change. Infection control is crucial for high-quality patient care. One of the most effective and commonly used infection control procedures is hand hygiene which, it is known, requires repeated refresher training. There are many ways to educate healthcare professionals about hand hygiene, including the use of mobile applications (apps). Our aim is to review such hand hygiene apps, and to identify which have been available since 2021 and to assess their quality. We conducted a review using the PRISMA diagram to document our app selection process in the Google Play Store and Apple store in March 2024. For the evaluation of apps, we used the user version of the Mobile Application Rating Scale questionnaire (uMARS). Of 16 apps only five adhere to WHO hand hygiene guidelines. Timers were included in 12 of the 16 apps and reminders were included in 10 of 16 apps. The highest overall uMARS scoring app was Give Me 5–Hand Hygiene (4.31 ± 0.28), while Wash your hands! (1.17 ± 0.14) had the lowest score. We found that more than half of the apps were unavailable from the 2021 review. Active learning is a paradigm where students take a more active role in their learning process. In this paper, two team-based evaluation activities are established for students according to the principles of active learning in order to assess their knowledge, skills and attitudes. These activities were based on scenarios related to network administration issues, and at a later stage, each team had to make a pitch presentation about what they did and how they did it to address them. Each presentation was rated by all students with a specific construct on a peer review basis, which had previously been validated by a panel of experts. The results obtained revealed quite high values with low variability and an acceptable reliability. Additionally, the level of motivation was also assessed, indicating a high level of motivation while undertaking the activities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The use of active learning activities for evaluation purposes has been reported to improve results in all areas within the education field. In this paper we describe a generic multilevel structure for educational escape rooms, along with a use case where such a design was applied for assessment in a course within the STEM area. Furthermore, a project-based learning activity was also added to complement that assessment. The results obtained expose an increase in both academic performance and success rate, where the percentage rises in both cases go in line to the literature. Additionally, a high level of engagement was measured during those active learning activities, which is reported to lead to better performance and improved learning. Data augmentation with mixup has been proven effective in various machine learning tasks. However, previous methods primarily concentrate on generating previously unseen virtual examples using randomly selected mixed samples, which may overlook the importance of similar spatial distributions. In this work, we extend mixup and propose MbMix, a novel yet simple training approach designed for implementing mixup with memory batch augmentation. MbMix specifically selects the samples to be mixed via memory batch to guarantee that the generated samples have the same spatial distribution as the dataset samples. Conducting extensive experiments, we empirically validate that our method outperforms several mixup methods across a broad spectrum of text classification benchmarks, including sentiment classification, question type classification, and textual entailment. Of note, our proposed method achieves a 5.61% improvement compared to existing approaches on the TREC-fine benchmark. Our approach is versatile, with applications in sentiment analysis, question answering, and fake news detection, offering entrepreneurial teams and students avenues to innovate. The Internet of Things (IoT) is an emerging paradigm, even though it does not receive enough attention in many academic plans. In order to introduce our students to IoT, in this paper we present the overall results of a seminar dedicated to encourage them to design basic IoT projects on a software application called Packet Tracer v8.2.1. Such projects were carried out in groups, whereas the evaluation process was performed by means of filling in a peer review construct after the presentation was made by each team. This construct was previously validated by a panel of five experts by applying the Aiken's V test, where an overall value of 0.907 was obtained. There were nine items within that construct, which were grouped into three dimensions, such as the quality of the prototypes presented, the communication skills during the presentations of the prototypes, and the alignment of the prototypes with SDGs. The average results obtained for all dimensions were all above 8 out of 10, whilst the medians were all 9 and the coefficient of variations were around 0.2. Those results showed high ratings with moderate variation among them. Furthermore, the reliability of the data collected in the evaluation process was assessed by applying the Cronbach's alpha, accounting for values above 0.9 for each dimension and overall, which means an excellent internal consistency of such data. Likewise, the level of engagement during the activity was also measured by the means of the ISA engagement scale, resulting in an overall value around 6.5, with a median of 7, which proved a high engagement among students. It is increasingly evident that using technological resources has broadly impacted people's lives, including their education. One of the technologies implemented for several years is Open Educational Resources (OER), with elements of open practice to mitigate the impact of the digital divide. This article describes the validation process of an instrument to measure the adoption of OER as perceived by higher education students in Mexico (means, standard deviations and normality, construct validity and reliability). The study included 392 participants, of whom 117 (29.8%) were male, 273 (69.6%) were female and 2 (.5%) did not identify with either sex. Ages ranged from 18 to 62 years (M= 22.0 years, SD= 5.8). The instrument underwent descriptive statistics techniques, univariate normality analyses, and Confirmatory Factor Analysis using the maximum likelihood estimation method. The reliability of the measurement model was confirmed using Cronbach's Alpha and McDonald's Omega index. The resulting validated instrument investigates students' perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, attitude, subjunctive standards, and behavioral control. For future studies, the application of the scale is suggested because of its manageable number of items and ease of administration, along with the examination of other validity tests that will help increase the robustness of the proposed measurement model, this measurement scale will be useful for teachers and researchers interested in understanding the impact of OER in education. This introduces another aspect of patient care in the provision of healthcare for the modern doctor. ChatGPT is the first of an increasing number of self learning programs that have been released recently which may revolutionize and impact healthcare delivery.Methods: The aim of this study is to obtain an objective measure of the readability of information provided on ChatGPT when compared with current validated patient information sheets provided by government health institutions in Western Australia. The same structured questions were input into the program for three major urological malignancies (urothelial, renal, and prostate), with the response generated evaluated with a validated readability scoring system – Flesch-Kincaid reading ease score. The same scoring system was then applied to current patient information sheets in circulation from Cancer Council Australia and UpToDate.Results: Findings in this study looking at ease of readability of information provided on ChatGPT as compared to other government bodies and healthcare institutions confirm that they are non-inferior and may be a useful tool or adjunct to the traditional clinic based consultations. Ease of use of the information generated from ChatGPT was increased further when the question was modified to target an audience of 16 years of age, the average level of education attained by an Australian.Discussion: Future research can be done to look into incorporating the use of similar technologies to increase efficiency in the healthcare system and reduce healthcare costs.Keywords: ChatGPT, innovative education, patient education, urological malignancies

The paper presents the results of research on the quality of e-learning in Polish higher education. The authors used an internet questionnaire for the study. The research sample was 621 students. Firstly, the researchers determined 14 variables that are important for the quality of e-learning. Then the students evaluated these variables with scores from 1 to 5. The students agreed the most with the following statements: “using the e-learning platform is convenient” (average: 4.20 and median 5.00), and “logging in to the e-learning platform is easy” (average 4.38, median 5.00). Moreover, the authors studied the relation between the quality of e-learning in Polish universities and the following variables: the ease with which the student can acquire content in traditional teaching and e-learning, the student’s knowledge of information technology and their possession of the resources necessary for e-learning, and the student’s assessment of the innovation of e-learning solutions used by the university where the student studies.

The introduction of technological tools such as student response systems to dynamise classes in higher education has been increasing in recent years, although often without proper monitoring of their effects. This research aims to analyse the main added value of the use of the Wooclap platform in university education, and whether there are differences in its results depending on the heterogeneous characteristics of the courses and groups in which it is applied. To this end, a comparative analysis has been carried out in three different courses in the field of economics at the University of Valencia. In all three courses, questions were introduced in Wooclap during theory classes. Students in the three courses were given an anonymous survey at the end of the course to evaluate the use of this tool. The students were very satisfied with the tool, highlighting that it helps them to maintain their attention, identify the most important concepts, understand and consolidate them. Furthermore, by means of the Chi-square test, no significant differences were observed in the three groups, from which it can be deduced that beyond the specific characteristics of the course, the profile of the students or the lecturer, this tool can be extrapolated to different contexts and satisfactory results can be expected. The ease of implementation, the possibility of obtaining immediate feedback from students and breaking the monotony of classes are other advantages for lecturers. The conclusions drawn highlight the potential of Wooclap to extend its use in higher education.

This study aims to identify and analyze relevant characteristics associated with creative thinking, particularly in arts and design education. A systematic literature review was conducted following the PRISMA protocol, utilizing the Scopus database, where 292 studies were retrieved through search strings. From these, 187 studies were selected for the final analysis. The results highlight an emphasis on experiential learning, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), and interdisciplinary approaches as prevalent educational methodologies for fostering creative thinking. The identified techniques include interdisciplinary projects, artistic practices, nature-based activities, and the use of digital tools. The core skills identified include originality, fluency, flexibility, and elaboration. Furthermore, it was observed that most of the studies were conducted in higher education institutions. The study underscores the urgency of promoting research in specific regions, such as Latin America, to contribute to advancing and enriching the educational landscape in these areas. Additionally, it emphasizes the importance of fostering creativity from an early age. The significance of this study lies in its contribution to more effective pedagogical practices for the development of creative thinking that positively impacts education and prepares individuals for the challenges of the 21st century. The role of education in the educational space of a higher school is shown and it is measured as a aspect in the international procedure of informatization of higher education. The main features of modern society and the main trends that change the image of education are highlighted. The leading models of the educational progression as a factor of the global process of informatization of higher education, which are built based on network computer technologies, are considered. For quality education, the main criteria for selecting means of organizing the educational process are recognized; basic didactic and specific principles. Positive features of modern education are emphasized. Finding effective ways to improve higher education, is considered a factor of the global informatization process. A survey of students of various specialties in institutions of higher education was conducted to find out the key traditions of global quality training of future competitive specialists in the innovative process of higher education. Within STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education, integrating real-world problem scenarios is paramount. Within interdisciplinary education, modeling is an approach to fostering student learning and skill development in a student-centered learning environment. This study focuses on an integrated physics and mathematics course in STEM education based on modeling for first-year engineering students. The main objectives of this study are to analyze students' models, assess the effectiveness of the pedagogical approach, and evaluate the benefits of integrative education. This study uses a Model-Application Activity as a closure for the quadratic model and extends the models built to a two-dimensional motion situation. The core activity involves a real-world experiment where students attempt to roll a ball down a ramp into a cup. While most groups successfully constructed theoretical models, only a few hit the target, highlighting the complexities of applying theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios. The study also emphasizes the seamless integration of physics and mathematics, enriching the learning experience and making the models more robust and versatile. Despite the promising results, the study identifies a gap between theoretical understanding and practical application, suggesting the need for more hands-on activities in the curriculum. In conclusion, this study underlines the value of integrating physics and mathematics through modeling and a student-centered approach, setting the stage for future research to enhance the effectiveness of STEM education. This study proposes a narrative pedagogical model for creating and developing case studies that highlight the challenges and issues surrounding the megatrends of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, specifically "People and the Internet." This proposal, framed in an online learning environment, represents the second stage of an educational platform to guide university students in facilitating an ideathon to address the megatrends of the 4th Industrial Revolution. Designing a model for case study creation related to the megatrends aims to foster complex thinking in university students, especially innovative thinking, a sub-competency of complex thinking. Fostering complex thinking highlights the importance of cognitive, practical, and adaptive skills to address interdisciplinary challenges. The Design Process and Practice Methodology and the case study methodology facilitated the narrative case study design model. Objectives: Team-focused cardiopulmonary resuscitation (TFCPR) is a choreographed approach to CPR in which responders know and practice their role in resuscitation, with prioritization on minimally-interrupted chest compressions and early appropriate defibrillation. To determine the feasibility of virtual reality (VR) for large scale educational deployment at a regional medical campus (RMC), we developed a VR training module and examined its effect on resuscitation knowledge acquisition among clinicians of various learner levels. Methods: Three separate cohorts were included in the investigation: third year medical students at our RMC, emergency medicine (EM) residents, and board-certified EM attending physicians. Participants were administered an iPad-based, de-identified pre-test, which assessed knowledge of 12 critical resuscitative tasks. All learners received a two-minute orientation to the VR headset fit and operation. Learners then completed training on the VR platform using two cardiac arrest clinical scenarios: an arrest with an initial shockable rhythm and another with a non-shockable initial rhythm. After completion of VR training, participants completed a post-test, again assessing knowledge of the 12 critical action resuscitative tasks, as well as a questionnaire determining metrics related to participants’ overall experience with VR training. The article examines issues of modern trends in physical education and sports in the education system of Ukraine. The role of video materials in the innovative provision of the educational and training process is shown, which became possible for use with the appearance of special programs for processing digital video information, and digital video cameras that allow the output of video information on various media. In the educational process of training future specialists in physical culture and sports, the following options for innovation policy are defined: the policy of "innovative push", "market orientation", "social orientation", and "direction for change". The multifaceted nature of innovative educational innovations is shown. For high-quality professional training of future specialists in physical culture and sports, a methodological basis is described to use innovative types of motor activity. The conducted experimental research makes it possible to conclude positive qualitative changes in the formation of the readiness of future physical culture and sports specialists to use innovative educational technologies in educational and professional activities, which indicates the effectiveness of the proposed method of applying innovative educational technologies in institutions of higher education to form future specialists of multimedia competence. ABSTRACTDespite the growing consensus that academic curricula should play a crucial role in addressing wicked problems, academic curriculum designers often find themselves entering uncharted waters. This impact study addresses a number of challenges in the search for how innovative ways of learning affect students’ ability to deal with wicked problems. The empirical research focuses on the case study of the Honours Programme of Wageningen University and draws on interviews with early career alumni. The concepts “agency” and “boundary spanning” are considered guiding principles to prepare students to cope with complexity and uncertainty, unreliable information, conflicting interpretations and non-transparent cause–effect relationships. This study finds that participation in the Honours Programme resulted in students developing agency in (1) ownership; (2) self-reflexivity and (3) shaping focus and boundary spanning between (1) disciplines; (2) people and (3) theory & practice. The study concludes that innovative education characterized by freedom, long-term projects, and real-life challenges can contribute to students developing agency and boundary spanning capacities.

Introduction: Drug development has been challenged by the dual drawbacks involving unpredictable disease outcomes and drug resistance, which has placed greater demands on pharmacology education. Molecular pharmacology, as a frontier crossover field of pharmacology, focuses on the research of new drugs and targets. However, due to the lack of a systematic experimental training system, molecular pharmacology has not made a corresponding contribution in promoting the training of innovative talent in pharmacology. We aim to establish an experimental training program suitable for molecular pharmacology to improve students' ability to engage in drug development in future. Methods: Based on the feasibility of drug–target projects, a comprehensive training program containing molecular docking, target stability experiment, and fluorescent probe detection of protein expression in living cells and mice was conducted among 20 pharmacy graduate students. The experimental training was assessed by the experimental training report and the student recognition questionnaires. Results: All 20 students mastered the experimental principles and operations required for the training program. The experimental reports proved that the students were in good command of the experimental principles, operations and applications. The results of the Likert questionnaire indicated that the training program promoted the understanding of the drug research process and increased motivation to learn. Conclusion: The designed experimental training program has a positive effect on the training of pharmacology talents, and can be implemented as a part of molecular pharmacology education. The adoption of the active learning paradigm presents a series of challenges and uncertainties. However, its adoption may result in better academic results and a more engaging attitude towards learning. In this sense, this paper presents a case scenario in which such a change of paradigm has been deployed, where escape rooms have been introduced as an assessment tool in an active learning context. The way to move through those escape rooms is by taking a series of questionnaires based on the knowledge acquired, such that failing a test keeps the group in the same position and passing it makes them move according to the grades obtained. Surveys and comments offered by students show they were more motivated and engaged after this task, and an improvement in academic performance has been detected. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Furthermore, the reliability of the data collected in the evaluation process was assessed by applying the Cronbach’s alpha, accounting for values above 0.9 for each dimension and overall, which means an excellent internal consistency of such data. Likewise, the level of engagement during the activity was also measured by the means of the ISA engagement scale, resulting in an overall value around 6.5, with a median of 7, which proved a high engagement among students.

Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI), of which ChatGPT is an exemplary tool, is beginning to revolutionize the way people search for information and use the information they acquire in their personal and professional lives. ChatGPT is showing a strong track record in a variety of tasks, such as generating text, summarizing text and answering questions during a conversation. It has the potential to revolutionize a wide range of fields - including education. The purpose of this article is to evaluate the extent to which the ChatGPT language model can be applied in the learning process for two types of students: full-time and part-time. Additionally, this article assesses the level of students' familiarity with intelligent chat functionality and their ability to construct queries directed to it. The study found that the use of an advanced language model based on artificial intelligence is more beneficial for full-time students in the learning process. However, there was no statistically significant difference in the knowledge of intelligent chat functionality and the ability to construct queries directed to it between full-time and part-time students. The scope of this article is fact finding and evaluation of activities for sustainable development in the field of shaping a pro-quality attitude in the educational system. As indicated by UNESCO, education for sustainable development needs a holistic approach. In this perspective, pro-quality education plays a double role—it includes contents that are innovative and closely related to sustainable development and it is a link connecting other activities of the educational system to achieve the objectives of education for sustainable development. This issue, as overlooked in most countries, is an attractive educational innovation, which can affect shaping students' attitudes in a more effective way. For the purpose of this research, the author collected secondary data as a result of literature analysis, mostly including governing and archival acts of law, as well as raw data with the use of a diagnostic survey method with a questionnaire survey technique. The main stage of this method was collecting research data through surveying students, representatives of teaching staff, and school principals from schools in Poland. Research conducted by the author supported the proposed hypothesis, according to which the Polish educational system is not oriented towards shaping the pro-quality attitude of high school students. Occupationally mobile families exist in multiple forms globally. While these families contribute significantly to the socioeconomic life of the locations that they traverse, sometimes their mobilities generate hostility in those locations. This hostility in the form of an anti-nomadic/sedentarist ideology creates corresponding difficulties for the schooling options and outcomes of the children of these mobile families. This paper explores the educational applications and implications of the anti-nomadic/sedentarist ideology as experienced by occupationally mobile families globally, and investigates also several successful schooling approaches for their children. The analysis identifies effective forms of schooling provision implemented in specific ways in these distinctive learning contexts. The author posits that 'innovative' in relation to the education of occupationally mobile communities is enacted in the historically constructed and materially grounded mobilities of each community, and 'works' and 'makes sense' only when conceptualised with references to those mobilities.
