Occurence and length-weight (LWR) relationships of four populations of Chelon carinatus in brackishwater systems of Mediterranean coast of Turkey were reported. A non-indigenous fish species, C. carinatus were captured between November 2014 and June 2017 in Ceyhan, Seyhan, Goksu and Manavgat river estuaries. A total of 127 individuals, ranging in size between 11.8 and 20.8 cm total length, 19.0 and 113.6 g weight, were examined. The length-weight relationship for all individuals was described by the following parameters: a = 0.0076; b = 3.1708 and r(2) = 0.93. The results of the current length-weight relationship study show that there is significant difference from the isometric b (3.0) value for all these populations. The length-weight relationships from all localities were reported here for the first time.

Aphanius fasciatus (Valenciennes, 1821), is a cyprinodontid euryhaline fish occur in many brackish water habitats along the Mediterranean coasts. The current study aims to update the range of A. fasciatus (Mediterranean Killifish, South European Toothcarp) along river estuaries and lagoon systems of Mediterranean coast of Turkey, and to determine its length-weight relationship. A total of 15 sites were surveyed from November 2014 to June 2017. Altogether, 69 specimens were sampled and measured from different systems. At each locality, the general observations on the population, length-weight relationships, its situation and threats were presented.

Members of Genus Atherina inhabit inshore marine environments as well as brackish and freshwater habitats. Growth properties of Atherina species remain poorly understood, despite their wide distribution. This study aims to present the length-weight relationships of Mediterranean sand smelt, Atherina hepsetus Linnaeus, 1758 and Big-scale sand smelt, Atherina boyeri from some inland, brackish water and marine systems of Turkey. During the study conducted from November 2014 to June 2017, a total number of 1183 fish specimens ranging from 2.5-15.4 cm in total length and 0.06-23.9 g in weight were analyzed. The slope value (b) of the length weight relationships obtained for A. boyeri and A. hepsetus were between 2.563-3.412 with an average value of 3.26 and between 2.523-3.118 with an average value of 2.81, respectively. While eight populations of A. boyeri showed negative allometric growth pattern, seven of them exhibited positive allometric growth pattern. The only one population of A. hepsetus showed positive allometric growth pattern, whereas its three populations had negative allometric growth pattern. This study also provides new maximum length recorded for A. hepsetus.

Giannetto, D./0000-0002-3895-5553; GUCLU, Salim Serkan/0000-0002-9256-449X WOS: 000474315900008 Age structure and length-weight relationship are examined for four species of the genus Aphanius Nardo, 1827 endemic to the Lake District, Central Anatolia, Turkey: A. iconii Aksiray, 1948, A. saldae (Aksiray, 1955), A. sureyanus (Neu, 1937) and A. transgrediens (Ermin, 1946). Specimens were sampled by a shore seine net from Lake Egirdir (A. iconii), Lake Salda (A. saldae), Lake Burdur (A. sureyanus) and Lake Acigol (A. transgrediens) during 2014-2015. A total of 1246 specimens are examined (A. iconii: n=206; A. saldae: n=525; A. sureyanus: n=350; A. transgrediens: n=165). The maximum age for A. iconii, A. saldae and A. sureyanus was 4 years and for A. transgrediens was 5 years. The values of the b parameter of the length-weight equations for A.transgrediens, A. saldae, A. sureyanus and A. iconii populations are 3.027, 2.587, 3.221 and 2.713, respectively. This is a report of the first record of the occurrence of Lernaea cyprinacea on tadpoles of Pelophylax bedriagae, a frog species native from Karpuzcay Creek, Antalya, Turkey. A total of 20 tadpoles of P. bedriagae were examined and 14 (70%) specimens were infected. A maximum of two parasites per host was found, primarily around the cloaca. In general, slight to moderate hyperemia was noticed around the parasite. Typically, granuloma form in the tissues around the parasite. Histopathological examination revealed that hemorrhages and pathological lesions such as dermal erosions, and a chronic inflammatory reaction in skin and muscle were present at the site of parasite attachment. 0000-0002-3895-5553 WOS: 000454472300017 This study reports the first data on length-weight relationship for the Ephesus dwarf goby Knipowitschia ephesi Ahnelt, 1995, an endemic species of the Aegean Region of Turkey. Fish sampling was carried on from January to November 2015 in the Kocagoz Lake. A total of 61 specimens of K ephesi were collected: 23 females and 38 males, with an overall M : F sex ratio of 1.6 : 1.0. Their size ranged from 1.73 to 3.40 cm and a new maximum total length of 3.4 cm was reported for the species. The overall length-weight relationship was: W = 0.0122 TL2.7517. It was W = 0.0141 TL2.5683 for males and W = 0.0064 TL3.3873 for females.

The aim of this study was to examine the pathological findings of 30 naturally infected tench (Tinca tinca) with Ligula intestinalis plerocercoids from Gölhisar Lake (Burdur) in Mediterranean Area of Turkey. Clinically and macroscopically, poor and irregular swimming, hemorrhages at the bases of fins and around the anus, the presence of the plerocercoids in the viscera together with perivisceral hemorrhages and distension of abdomen were generally observed in the diseased fish. Microscopically, hemorrhages, necrosis and mononuclear cell infiltrations were seen in the viscera invaded by plerocercoids. In conclusion, the cestode Ligula intestinalis plerocercoids’ pathological effects on the tench tissues were widely evaluated for the first time in Turkey. © 2018, Israel Veterinary Medical Association. Lernaea cyprinacea L. is a lernaeid copepod known to be a pathogenic parasite in freshwater systems, found on a variety of freshwater fish worldwide. Recently it was recorded from two endemic; Pseudophoxinus burduricus and Oxynoemacheilus anatolicus, and one exotic fish species; Gambusia holbrooki in a Karstik Spring Creek (Düger Spring), Burdur-Turkey. After macro- and microscopic inspection of fish, a high prevalence of L. cyprinacea was recorded on P. burduricus (28.3%) and a low prevalence on O. anatolicus (6%). Histopathological examination of lesions revealed inflammatory response in the epidermis, dermis, and muscles. This is the first record of L. cyprinacea on P. burduricus and O. anatolicus from Turkey. In this study, the occurrence of helminth parasites in Squalius anatolicus (Cyprinidae) of Sarisu stream (Beysehir - Konya) was investigated from spring 2009 to autumn 2010. S. anatolicus is endemic to Turkey, having very limited distributions. The conservation status of the fish has been referred to as endangered. During the study, a total of 83 Squalius anatolicus specimens were examined for helminth parasites. Two species of helminth parasites [Dactylogyrus vistulae (Monogenea: Dactylogyridae), Pomphorhynchus laevis (Acanthocephala: Pomphorhynchidae)] were found on 51 fish. Male hosts had higher levels of infection of both isolated parasite species. A total of 52 specimens of D. vistulae infected 10 of 83 fish examined, with prevalence and mean intensity of 12.04 % and 5.2 respectively. A total 203 specimens of P. laevis infected 48 of 83 fish examined, with prevalence and mean intensity of infection 57.8 % and 4.2 respectively. Prevalence and infection intensity, length classes, and sex compositions of host populations, as well as the seasonality of infection were obtained and the results compared with other studies. This study is the first parasitological survey of S. anatolicus in Turkey, adding to the knowledge of geographical distribution and host range of two parasite species.

In Turkey it is a non-native species and it is present with several acclimatised populations. A population of C. zillii, which almost certainly originated from aquarium industry ponds located in the area of Burdur, is well-established in the Pinarbasi Spring Creek (Burdur, Turkey). This paper aims to study the population structure and some growth properties of C. zillii living in Pmarbast Spring Creek. For this purpose, age and sex composition and length-weight relationships were examined and then compared with those reported for other populations. During the study period (from November 2013 to June 2016), a total of six fish species (C. zillii, Oreochromis niloticus. Oxynoemacheilus anatolicus, Gambusia holbrooki, Carassius gibelio, Clarias sp.) were caught by electrofishing. Among all, C. zillii has the highest abundance (54.77%). Totally, 155 specimens of C. zillii, ranging in size from 2.4 to 20.5 cm in total length and from 0.16 to 166.1 g in total weight, were collected. Of all the examined C. zillii, 80 specimens were immature, 44 were female and 31 were male. The overall sex ratio of females to males was 0.7:1. Ages of captured specimens ranged from 0 to IV.
