This article analyzes demonstrations of natural hazards, their space – time patterns are identified, and the extent of natural hazards on the territory of Astrakhan region is evaluated. A set of thematic charts and maps was developed; the influence of natural hazards in local areas of the region was evaluated. A number of measures to mitigate the negative impact by natural hazards on the environment and population vital activities of the region is offered.

The results of comparative analysis of the historical, resource, economic and geographical aspects of Gelendzhik and Tuapse resort areas establishment are presented along with corresponding methodological and practical approaches to the comparative characterization of regional recreational systems.

The article refers to the development of eco-tourism and recreation systems (ETRS) in the Astrakhan region. Places, used for leisure and tourism at first glance appear to be similar and beneath notice. In fact, special studies show that consumers' preferences of our fellow citizens are very diverse. We attempted to define basic elements of ETRS.

The article considers the history of water activities in Astrakhan Region, discloses major stages of river merchant and passenger shipping along the Volga and the Caspian Sea. Starting from 1842, passenger carriage was performed along with freight. In 1843 Colonel Sokolovsky manufactured the first steam vessel ‘Sokol’. It had a flat bottom and good interior trim and was the first to start passenger carriage. Towards the end of the XIXth century, Astrakhan was ranked number II in the total number of steam vessels, trailing only Odessa and was ranked the first in the number of sailing vessels.

Tourists’ transport service is an integral part of travel industry. Astrakhan is the largest transportation hub, providing transport and economic communication with other settlements of region, country and foreign states. Transport system is in rather stable condition.

The article concerns globally minded person in the epoch of globalization. Special attention is attached to negative elements of globalization perception by person of post-industrial society.
