Este estudio aborda el proceso de generalización de cuatro estudiantes (11-12 años) con trastorno del espectro autista durante una sesión de un taller de resolución de problemas en el que se usan distintos tipos de representación: manipulativos, pictogramas y tablas. La videograbación de la sesión y las producciones de los participantes se analizan según el nivel de generalización de relaciones funcionales que evidencian y el tipo de representación empleado. Su resolución muestra saltos entre términos y niveles de generalización que coinciden con el uso de distintas representaciones o relaciones funcionales. Se ha evidenciado que el uso de diferentes tipos de representación influye en el proceso de generalización de los estudiantes, y que se alcanzan niveles más altos cuando usan tablas.

Summary: Genomic analyses of bacterial isolates are effective to compare the prevalence of antibiotic resistance genes and virulence determinants in different contexts. This study provides a comprehensive genomic description of 339 Staphylococcus aureus strains isolated from patients with bacteremia (2014–2022). Nosocomial acquisition accounted for 56.6% of cases, with vascular catheters being the main infection source (31.8%). Fatality (27.4%), persistent bacteremia (19.5%), and septic emboli (24.2%) were documented. During the COVID-19 pandemic, S. aureus bacteremia episodes increased by 140%. Genetic features in pandemic isolates revealed higher prevalence of methicillin (mecA) and macrolide (msrA and mphC) resistance genes. Additionally, genes encoding clumping factors A and B, involved in fibrinogen binding, were more prevalent. This was linked to extensive macrolide use in COVID-19 accessory therapy and elevated fibrinogen levels in SARS-CoV-2 infection. These findings highlight S. aureus adaptation to COVID-19 selective pressures and the value of whole-genome sequencing in molecular epidemiology studies.

IntroductionChagas disease, caused by the Trypanosoma cruzi parasite infection, is a potentially life-threatening neglected tropical disease with a worldwide distribution. During the chronic phase of the disease, there exists a fragile balance between the host immune response and parasite replication that keeps patients in a clinically-silent asymptomatic stage for years or even decades. However, in 40% of patients, the disease progresses to clinical manifestations mainly affecting and compromising the cardiac system. Treatment is recommended in the chronic phase, although there are no early markers of its effectiveness. The aim of this study is to identify differential expression changes in genes involved in the immune response in antigen-restimulated PBMC from chronic patients with Chagas disease due to benznidazole treatment.MethodsThus, high-throughput real-time qPCR analysis has been performed to simultaneously determine global changes in the expression of 106 genes involved in the immune response in asymptomatic (IND) and early cardiac manifestations (CCC I) Chagas disease patients pre- and post-treatment with benznidazole.Results and discussionThe results revealed that 7 out of the 106 analyzed genes were differentially expressed (4 up- and 3 downregulated) after treatment in IND patients and 15 out of 106 (3 up- and 12 downregulated) after treatment of early cardiac Chagas disease patients. Particularly in CCC I patients, regulation of the expression level of some of these genes towards a level similar to that of healthy subjects suggests a beneficial effect of treatment and supports recommendation of benznidazole administration to early cardiac Chagas disease patients. The data obtained also demonstrated that both in asymptomatic patients and in early cardiac chronic patients, after treatment with benznidazole there is a negative regulation of the proinflammatory and cytotoxic responses triggered as a consequence of T. cruzi infection and the persistence of the parasite. This downregulation of the immune response likely prevents marked tissue damage and healing in early cardiac patients, suggesting its positive effect in controlling the pathology.

The essay addresses the issue of accessibility to heritage, starting from the analysis of educational practices proposed by museums and associations in the Bologna area and aimed at schools of all levels. In fact, from the study of the didactic and laboratory activities presented on the occasion of the Cosa abbiamo in Comune initiative (What we have in the Municipality) promoted, for several years, by the Municipality of Bologna, the article investigates the educational and training offers for an inclusive heritage education that foresee real and concrete connection between the diversity of heritages and people and in which the therapeutic value of cultural heritage is effectively made understandable. The survey results show that heritage education in schools and museums proves to be an important aspect of identity cohesion, also attested by international initiatives that involve the entire community and which have taken place in the area for over seventeen years, including events such as the "International Festival of History".

In the context of foreign language education (FLE), virtual exchanges (VE) involving videoconferencing are becoming an increasingly widespread practice. It is to be expected that students face challenges as they may not have developed the skills necessary to successfully carry out these types of online intercultural interactions naturally. In order for them to get the most out of the collaborative learning experience, teachers must engage in the process of teaching students how to do so. With this in mind, this case study analyses the impact that VE teachers’ mentoring had on the development of students’ videoconferencing skills by conducting a qualitative content analysis of pre- and post-intervention videoconference recordings, as well as students’ reflections in their personal portfolios. Despite the limitations identified, the results of this study point to the importance of providing adequate videoconferencing mentoring to improve the VE learning experience and its learning outcomes.

Climate change poses a severe environmental crisis where many European urban centers face increased risks, among others, of flooding and/or water scarcity due to intense rainfall and prolonged droughts. Urgent adaptation measures are required to enhance resilience in urban, peri-urban, and agricultural areas against extreme weather events. This article describes a method for categorizing urban areas based on climate-related risks as a targeting and prioritization system for allocating climate resilience measures in cities. The method allows for calculating a climate vulnerability index value, considering temperature, precipitation, wind patterns, population density, altitude, and urban area. Focused on the Mediterranean region, particularly Sicily, the index application generates quantifiable vulnerability values for urban settlements, enabling comparison and prioritization. The reproducible and scalable method provides a valuable tool for urban analysis beyond the Mediterranean and can facilitate decision-making processes to initiate future studies and projects.

The effect of fuel (hydrogen vs. butane) on the formation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) was evaluated for grilled horse meat (very low-fat and low-fat) cooking vertically. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry was used to analyze PAHs and VOCs. An electronic nose was used to evaluate the odor profile. Total high-molecular-weight PAHs ranged from 19.59 to 28.65 µg/kg with butane and from 1.83 to 1.61 µg/kg with hydrogen. Conversely, total low-molecular-weight PAHs went from 184.41 to 286.03 µg/kg with butane and from 36.88 to 41.63 µg/kg with hydrogen. Aldehydes and alkanes were the predominant family in a total of 59 VOCs. Hydrogen gas-grilling reduced significantly (p < 0.05) the generation of VOCs related to lipid oxidation. The odor profile was not modified significantly despite the change of PAHs and VOCs. The findings indicate that hydrogen is a viable alternative to butane for grilling horse meat. Hydrogen gas-grilling may be regarded as a safe cooking procedure of meat from a PAH contamination point and perhaps sustainable environmentally compared to a conventional technique. The present study provides the basis for the use of hydrogen gas in grilled meat.

Chicken breasts and burgers (88% breast and 12% backfat) were evaluated for physicochemical characteristics, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), and antioxidant capacity during storage in vacuum or atmosphere conditions for 18 days at 4 °C using the following two formulations: one without incorporating white pomace seasoning (WPS) and another with 3% WPS. The WPS was obtained from white grape skins, a byproduct resulting from the elaboration of white wine. The addition of the WSP decreased the L* values and increased the a* values, resulting in a significant turning toward brown tones in the chicken products. The addition of 3% of WSP led to higher values of ABTS and FRAP, regardless of the type of packaging. Both types of packaging significantly increased the levels of TBARS, although vacuum packaging proved more effective in protecting against lipid oxidation compared to modified atmosphere package (MAP). Additionally, the WSP improved the oxidative stability regarding the TBARS values. In conclusion, the WSP could be a viable alternative to chemical antioxidants and would lead to healthier and innovative chicken products.

Flavanones are natural compounds that display anti-inflammatory activity. The aim of this work was to prepare PLGA nanoparticles (NPs) containing natural flavanones I ((2S)-5,7-dihydroxy-6-methyl-8-(3-methyl-2-buten-1-il)-2-phenyl-2,3-dihydro-4H-1-Benzopyran-4-one) and II (2S)-5,7-dihydroxy-2-(4′-methoxyphenyl)-6-methyl-8-(3-methyl-2-buten-1-yl)-2,3-dihydro-4H-1-Benzopyran-4-one) (NP I and NP II, respectively) so as to evaluate their potential for topical anti-inflammatory ocular therapy. An in silico study was carried out using the Molinspiration® and PASS Online web platforms before evaluating the in vitro release study and the ex vivo porcine cornea and sclera permeation. The HPLC analytical method was also established and validated. Finally, the in vitro anti-inflammatory efficacy of NPs was studied in the HCE-2 model. The flavanones I and II could be released following a kinetic hyperbolic model. Neither of the two NPs was able to permeate through the tissues. NP I and NP II were found to be respectful of any changes in the tissues’ morphology, as evidenced by histological studies. In HCE-2 cells, NP I and NP II were not cytotoxic at concentrations up to 25 µM. NP I showed higher anti-inflammatory activity than NP II, being able to significantly reduce IL-8 production in LPS-treated HCE-2 cells. In summary, ocular treatment with NP I and NP II could be used as a promising therapy for the inhibition of ocular inflammation.

Estudiantes de todas las condiciones fracasan en el sistema educativo, pero el abandono temprano es más frecuente en estudiantes vulnerables. En el presente artículo se debate acerca de la situación de estos estudiantes y se presentan algunos de los resultados más relevantes de un proyecto competitivo de I+D+i. En la investigación se empleó una metodología cualitativa, basada en la realización de entrevistas y grupos de discusión. Este artículo aborda un aspecto que ha destacado especialmente en la investigación: la fuerte motivación que los estudiantes vulnerables muestran para superar todas las dificultades a las que se enfrentan en su vida personal y escolar. Además, analiza los beneficios que los estudiantes vulnerables proporcionan a su clase, los apoyos que pueden requerir y la preparación del profesorado para dar respuesta a las necesidades de estos estudiantes. Por último, se sugieren acciones para profesionales, destacando la formación y actualización docente.

This article presents the results and conclusions of a research conducted within the European project "Heritage Education for the territorial and emotional intelligence of citizens" (EPITEC) on the topic of citizenship education and the use of Heritage as inclusive resource. The starting point is the consideration based on the value of difference and, consequently, on the diversity of people and on the elements that make up the concept of "Heritage". The objective of the survey was to study and analyze the educational project called "the roots to fly". In particular, the adoption of an inclusive approach introduced by educational institutions and aimed at benefiting from the emotional bond that is established between the students involved and the assets they discover and protect was appreciated. The methodology adopted is part of a qualitative approach, through the analysis of a case study, using tools such as interviews, observations and documentary analyzes. The results and the budget of the survey attest to the importance of the Heritage as a means of activating all female students and all students in the use of different methods and sources.

Abstract Aim The objective of this study was to evaluate associations between maternal concentrations of 25‐hydroxyvitamin D (25(OHD)) and birth outcomes: mode of delivery and episiotomy rate. Design and Methods One hundred and seventeen pregnant women were enrolled in an observational, longitudinal, prospective cohort study. Multivariable linear regression analyses were performed to assess relationships between maternal 25(OHD) concentrations and mode of delivery. To account for systematic temporal variation in 25(OHD), a cosinor model to the data was fitted. Results No significant statistical associations were found between adjusted maternal 25(OHD) concentrations and risk of eutocic vaginal delivery, instrumented delivery (OR 1.05 [95% CI: 0.97–1.13]), primary Caesarean section (OR 0.99 [95% CI: 0.88–1.11]) or Caesarean section for any other causes (OR 1.04 [95% CI: 0.95–1.14]). High 25(OHD) levels tended to show a protective effect on performance of episiotomy, without reaching statistical significance (OR 0.36 [95% CI: 0.09, 1.37]).

Educational inclusion of foreign pupils has become a priority objective in recent years in many countries worldwide. Attending to the cultural diversity of pupils and providing an inclusive educational response is now a main goal of education systems. In this context, educational leadership is a key factor for school improvement. Management teams face the difficult mission of responding to the diversity of people that make up the educational community in a scenario marked by the expansive increase in migrant families and the scarcity of inclusive and intercultural government programmes. This article explores good management practices for cultural diversity management in six early childhood and primary education centres in Spain and Chile from an inclusive leadership approach. Factors that influence the development of inclusive leadership and the process deployed to carry out diversity management are examined. Through a qualitative methodology, six case studies were carried out using the interview, participant observation, and document analysis as instruments. The main outcomes show the importance of leaders in promoting an inclusive collaborative culture, in classroom practices focused on the knowledge and cultural capital of foreign pupils, the development of organisational and didactic strategies based on the recognition and participation of the educational community, its commitment to social justice, a management of diversity based on collaboration, and a shared concept of educational inclusion. The conclusions show four common dimensions in the good practices of each country: professional development of the community, school participation, inclusive school culture, and positive management of diversity.

Africa accounts for 1.5% of the global coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases and 2.7% of deaths, but this low incidence has been partly attributed to the limited testing capacity in most countries. In addition, the population in many African countries is at high risk of infection with endemic infectious diseases such as malaria. Our aim is to determine the prevalence and circulation of SARS-CoV-2 variants, and the frequency of co-infection with the malaria parasite. We conducted serological tests and microscopy examinations on 998 volunteers of different ages and sexes in a random and stratified population sample in Burkina-Faso. In addition, nasopharyngeal samples were taken for RT-qPCR of SARS-CoV-2 and for whole viral genome sequencing. Our results show a 3.2 and a 2.5% of SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence and PCR positivity; and 22% of malaria incidence, over the sampling period, with marked differences linked to age. Importantly, we found 8 cases of confirmed co-infection and 11 cases of suspected co-infection mostly in children and teenagers. Finally, we report the genome sequences of 13 SARS-CoV-2 isolates circulating in Burkina Faso at the time of analysis, assigned to lineages A.19, A.21, B.1.1.404, B.1.1.118, B.1 and grouped into clades; 19B, 20A, and 20B. This is the first population-based study about SARS-CoV-2 and malaria in Burkina Faso during the first wave of the pandemic, providing a relevant estimation of the real prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 and variants circulating in this Western African country. Besides, it highlights the non-negligible frequency of co-infection with malaria in African communities.

Supporting nontraditional students within the student lifecycle is one of the major challenges faced by urban universities. This study presents a pedagogical intervention in which a group of Hispanic students participated in an engaged learning project with a bilingual newspaper. Findings indicate that this project motivated students to complete their degree, helped them develop transferrable skills, led to higher academic engagement, and increased their sense of belonging to the local Hispanic community. These results highlight the importance of engaged learning as one of the tangible tools teachers can use to support nontraditional and minority students in urban tertiary institutions.

Durante el curso 2019/2020 se realiza un estudio de caso en un centro educativo de la localidad onubense de Cartaya, acogido al proyecto “Los niños se comen el futuro”. Se busca evaluar una Propuesta Didáctica, basada en el Trabajo por Proyectos y la integración holística del patrimonio, desde la cultura gastronómica, a partir de las concepciones de docentes de la etapa de Educación Primaria. La muestra la conforma el equipo docente de la etapa y las técnicas de recogida de información son la observación participante, la entrevista, el grupo de discusión y el análisis documental. Los resultados revelan el escaso tratamiento que se le otorga al patrimonio en la educación formal y el buen acogimiento de propuestas metodológicas activas e innovadoras, como la que se presenta, para acercar al alumnado a su entorno, permitiéndole establecer lazos identitarios.

Walkability is a modern concept that has become important in recent years due to the doubtless effects it has on aspects such as health and wellbeing, sustainable development, climate change, and tourism. It is necessary, therefore, that urban development strategies aim to achieve walkable cities. The main objective of this study is to define a methodology to calculate the walkability index in tourist cities and to predict the effects of climate change on this index, which is applied to three World Heritage cities in central Spain: Salamanca, Ávila, and Segovia. The methodology is developed in three phases. Phase I focus on the calculation of walkability, considering the following factors: facilities and services, accessibility, sidewalk width, population density, green areas, and urban trees. In Phase II, walkability in 2020, climate-related variables were added to the previous result: temperatures, solar radiation, and shadows. Finally, the third phase, walkability under climate change pressure in 2030, 2050, and 2100, establish predictions for different climate scenarios. The results show excellent walkability indices (higher) in city centers and newly built neighborhoods and low values in the rest of the peripheral areas, industrial estates, and neighborhoods. Climate predictions showed a generalized decrease in walkability over time, even higher in the scenario with high greenhouse gas emissions. Likewise, the models can be an excellent tool for the tourist management of cities since they show the most walkable areas and, therefore, the most suitable for tourist routes.

La investigación realizada tiene por objetivo conocer, analizar y describir el proceso de adaptación de las metodologías didácticas activas ante el cambio de la docencia presencial a la docencia online, las actitudes del profesorado y sus valoraciones en torno a la experiencia vivida durante la pandemia del Covid-2019. La metodología de investigación ha sido cualitativa, realizando un estudio multicaso en cuatro grupos de estudiantes de grado y posgrado en la Universidad de Huelva. Las materias y grupos fueron seleccionados intencionalmente por estar basadas en metodologías activas, y estrategias y actividades prácticas para atender a la diversidad del alumnado, basándose así en los principios de la justicia social. El artículo plantea dilemas y alternativas de tres docentes universitarias en el desarrollo de la docencia ante la sobrevenida pandemia. Los resultados muestran valoraciones positivas por parte del profesorado, aunque se analizan también las dificultades. Destacan un aumento en su formación docente y una evolución efectiva en su desarrollo profesional, además de incrementar su labor investigadora centrada en la docencia. Las metodologías activas utilizadas presencialmente se han sustituido por otras estrategias y recursos didácticos que han permitido una docencia virtual basada en un proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje activo y enriquecedor para todos los estudiantes.

Evolution of psychological state and fear in childhood and adolescence during COVID-19 lockdown. The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a lockdown that may have affected social and emotional well-being in childhood and adolescence, as is being explored from different research. The present study analyses the relations between the general psychological state and the fears of diseases and virus infections. Furthermore, it assesses these relations in the course of lockdown and as a function of age. A total of 972 families with children between 3 and 18 have participated. The results indicate that the highest psychological difficulties are focused on emotional symptoms, the behavioral problems and the total difficulty score. In addition, there is a positive relation between fears associated with COVID-19 and the presence of these problems in the infant population. It should be noted that, as confinement advances, the presence of psychological difficulties increases, and these affect children and adolescents differently.

BackgroundSince human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8) infection may be underestimated and HHV-8 subtype circulation in Spain remains unknown, a molecular epidemiologic study is highly desirable.ObjectivesThis study aimed to analyse HHV-8 subtype diversity and their distribution in Spain.Study designThe study included 142 HHV-8 infected patients. A nested PCR was developed in order to permit Sanger sequencing of HHV-8 K1 ORF directly from clinical samples received at the CNM from 2013 to 2021. Phylogenetic characterization was performed.ResultsGenotypes A and C comprised 55.6% and 42.3% of strains. Regarding subtypes, 25.4% of strains were C3, 19.7% were A3, 14.1% were A5, and C2, A1, A4, C1, A2, C7 were 11.3%, 11.3%, 8.5%, 4.2%, 2.1% and 1.4%, respectively. Subtype E1, E2 and B1 were found in only one patient each (0.7%). The Madrid region accounted for 52.1% of patients and showed a significantly different subtype distribution compared to the others (P = 0.018). Subtypes B1, E1, and E2 were observed to appear sporadically, although overall genotypes A and subtype C3 remained the most frequent and unwavering. Subtype A3 presented the highest diversity as displayed by the highest number of clusters in phylogenetic analysis. Non-significant differences in viral loads between genotypes were found, but significantly higher viral loads in subtype C2 compared to subtype C3 was found, while no significant subtype differences were observed between subtypes within genotype A. Infections with HHV-8 were detected in 94 (66.2%) patients without KS and compared to patients with KS non-significant differences in subtype distribution were found.ConclusionsSubtype prevalence and regional distribution followed a similar pattern compared to other western European countries. Our study is the first to report HHV-8 subtypes E1 and E2 circulating in Europe that might be reflective of migration of population from Caribbean countries. Our study suggests that infection by HHV-8 is underestimated, and wider screening should be recommended for risk groups.

Objective In this video, we present our technique for ureter assessment during pelvic ultrasound examination. Methods We used a general electric Voluson E10 (General electric, Wauwatosa, WI, USA) to perform transvaginal ultrasonography. These images were shared after thorough counselling, and obtaining informed consent from the patient. This video was edited using FinalCut ProX® (Apple Inc, Cupertino, CA, USA). Results We systematized this routine after assessing the cervix, uterus, and adnexa. The vaginal probe was slightly removed to focus on the urethra. Next, we approached the hand on the contralateral thigh to the ureter. At this point, the probe was directed to the lateral pelvic wall where the ureteric orifice was found. Then, we raised our hands and perform an internal rotation movement to ascend the ureteral segments until it is related to the iliac vessels. Conclusion The urinary tract may be involved in gynecological pathologies. Transvaginal ultrasound is an easy, reproducible, and well-tolerated examination that can be used to evaluate the ureters below the pelvic brim.

La Educación Superior apuesta por desarrollar competencias desde una dimensión social a través del Aprendizaje Servicio Solidario (ApS). Desde un trabajo colaborativo entre universidades, este estudio piloto forma en ApS al alumnado de los Grados en Educación Infantil y Educación Social (n=66) de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid. La formación en modalidad híbrida aprovechó los actuales escenarios virtuales y pretendió conocer su percepción sobre esta modalidad y los beneficios del ApS en su desarrollo. La metodología mixta y el cuestionario, diseñado ad hoc y validado por expertos, permitieron realizar un estudio descriptivo y relacional a través de la prueba exacta de Fisher Se concluye que el grado y el género no influyen en las variables estudiadas, obteniéndose, generalmente, resultados similares. La modalidad híbrida fue bien acogida, consideran el ApS muy aplicable al contexto socio-comunitario, favoreciendo la posibilidad de desarrollar, en este orden, competencias personales, profesionales y académicas, especialmente, su dimensión social, reclamando más formación y experiencias ApS. El estudio aporta un caso de éxito de formación en ApS, fácilmente transferible, a través de escenarios virtuales y sesiones teórico-prácticas. Esto contribuye a incrementar investigaciones sobre la necesaria formación a futuros maestros y educadores en metodologías con proyección social.

The aim of the Natura 2000 Network is to ensure the conservation of habitats and species in their natural areas of distribution. Connectivity is an essential part of this conservation. For this purpose, a value map of importance for biodiversity (V.I.B) was generated proposing 4 levels of protection and overlapped with the Natura 2000 network. New boundaries for the zoning are proposed adding 1.600.000 ha. Two connectivity indices (MSPA and PC) are calculated in the 4 different scenarios. With these indices it is possible to know the number of existing nuclei and connectors in each of the scenarios. New boundaries cover more areas of interest for biodiversity as well as zones of great importance in relation to connectivity. We propose a uniform method that can be extrapolated to any European territory.

Infection by the Trypanosoma cruzi parasite causes Chagas disease and triggers multiple immune mechanisms in the host to combat the pathogen. Chagas disease has a variable clinical presentation and progression, producing in the chronic phase a fragile balance between the host immune response and parasite replication that keeps patients in a clinically silent asymptomatic stage for years. Since the parasite is intracellular and replicates within cells, the cell-mediated response of the host adaptive immunity plays a critical role. This function is mainly orchestrated by T lymphocytes, which recognize parasite antigens and promote specific functions to control the infection. However, little is known about the immunological markers associated with this asymptomatic stage of the disease. In this large-scale analysis, the differential expression of 106 immune system-related genes has been analyzed using high-throughput qPCR in T. cruzi antigen-stimulated PBMC from chronic Chagas disease patients with indeterminate form (IND) and healthy donors (HD) from endemic and non-endemic areas of Chagas disease. This analysis revealed that there were no differences in the expression level of most genes under study between healthy donors from endemic and non-endemic areas determined by PCA and differential gene expression analysis. Instead, PCA revealed the existence of different expression profiles between IND patients and HD (p < 0.0001), dependent on the 32 genes included in PC1. Differential gene expression analysis also revealed 23 upregulated genes (expression fold change > 2) and 11 downregulated genes (expression fold change < 0.5) in IND patients versus HD. Enrichment analysis showed that several upregulated genes in IND patients participate in relevant immunological pathways such as antigen-dependent B cell activation, stress induction of HSP regulation, NO2-dependent IL12 pathway in NK cells, and cytokine-inflammatory response. The antigen-specific differential gene expression profile detected in these patients and the relevant immunological pathways that seem to be activated could represent potential biomarkers of the asymptomatic form of Chagas disease, helpful to diagnosis and infection control.

La presente investigación pretende conocer, analizar y describir la influencia que ejerce la dirección y su liderazgo en la gestión y atención del alumnado con necesidades educativas especiales (NEE). Para ello, se ha realizado un estudio exploratorio de carácter cualitativo, utilizando técnicas como la entrevista y el análisis de documentos. De esta forma, se han analizado cuatro centros públicos de Educación Infantil y Primaria con la finalidad de conocer las actitudes, concepciones, liderazgo y buenas prácticas promovidas por los directores y las directoras de dichos centros educativos. Los resultados obtenidos muestran la importancia del papel del director/a al promover actitudes positivas hacia el alumnado con necesidades educativas especiales, proveer de recursos y desarrollar metodologías para atender a dicho alumnado. No obstante, la gestión y atención del alumnado con necesidades educativas especiales recae principalmente sobre los docentes especialistas. Por tanto, las conclusiones principales de este estudio se dirigen hacia la importancia de desarrollar un liderazgo distribuido y colaborativo por parte del director o la directora, con el fin de promover culturas y prácticas que permitan la inclusión total del alumnado con necesidades educativas especiales.

The COVID-19 health crisis has led to a dramatic change in dynamics and habits of families, which may be a factor involved in the development and maintenance of problems and difficulties in children. The present study is a cross-sectional study that aims to describe and analyze the relationship between the difficulties in psychological adjustment and the change of habits of the infant-juvenile population as perceived by their parents and their stress and resilience during the total confinement of the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in Spain, as well as analyzing the course of the changes and the relationships between weeks 3 to 6, that is, the score of different participants in each week of the confinement. The sample is comprised of 883 parents of children and adolescents between 3 and 18 years of age. Children’s psychological adjustment, children’s habits, parental stress, and parental resilience were assessed by parents. The results show that parents perceive a change in the habits and psychological difficulties in their children. At the same time, our results describe parents with a high level of stress and resilience, with differences depending on the children’s ages. The time of confinement accentuates the perception of parents about the psychological difficulties of their children and parental stress, as well as a decrease in resilience. These difficulties are reduced when the parent has resilience competencies. These results show that the resilience of parents mediate the relationship between parental stress and psychological problems of their children. These results shows that COVID-19 lockdown had a considerable effect on families, both on children and parents. Some practical implications based on results are provided.

En el presente estudio se analizan las prácticas de aula del especialista de atención a la diversidad en los centros de educación infantil y primaria (CEIP) de Andalucía. Mediante un diseño de naturaleza cualitativa de carácter transversal, se obtienen los datos con dos fuentes principales de información (entrevista semiestructurada diseñada ad hoc y observación directa y no participante) sobre una muestra de 142 especialistas. Los resultados revelan el desarrollo de prácticas inclusivas respecto al uso de estrategias didácticas y metodologías activas; la importancia de recursos plurales y funcionales; la puesta en práctica de un apoyo pedagógico coordinado o colaborativo, y la flexibilización en la dinámica y la organización de aula. También se identifican posibilidades, dificultades y limitaciones. Las conclusiones apuntan que las prácticas que están desarrollando los especialistas pretenden contribuir a la mejora de las escuelas en relación con la atención a la diversidad, siendo el apoyo colaborativo a la comunidad educativa la función principal para la promoción de una escuela inclusiva que atienda a todo el alumnado.

This research describes the didactic learning experience developed in the University of Huelva linked to the Teaching Innovation Project inclurec in which have participated university students, students with special educational needs and a teacher of different educational levels. The experience starts from the elaboration and adaptation of didactic resources to the student with educational needs, trying to develop a compromised, functional and functional university formation and to create a collaborative network between the university, the students and the associations since a perspective of universal accessibility. The experience evolves through the analysis of more than 600 records prepared by a student, academic rates and four interviews with key informants. The results address the needs of the students, resources, schools that have collaborated and about the formation of participating university students. It concludes by highlighting the good academic rates of the university student, the connection with professionals to those who this experience serve them as permanent formation and the important contribution of material resources to students with special educational needs.

Twenty-four safe dishes for cerebral palsy dysphagic patients and four commercial dysphagia-oriented food products for dysphagia were studied in order to determine their textural characteristics. Apparent viscosity measured at 25, 50, and 100 s−1 and extrusion force analyzed at 1, 2, 5, and 10 mm/s were evaluated. Using clustering techniques, samples were divided into three categories. Apparent viscosity at 50 s−1 and extrusion force at 5 and 10 mm/s could be enough to characterize the safe dishes for dysphagic patients.

Ready-to-eat (RTE) products elaborated from beef and meat analog, previously marinated (teriyaki and beer), were subjected to sous vide cooking at different combinations of temperature (70ºC and 80ºC) and time (60, 90 and 120 min for beef; 90, 120 and 150 min for meat analog). The sous vide cooking at 80ºC led to less cooking losses. The shear force values were approximately 50% lower in meat analog samples than in beef samples. The L* and a* value and sensory properties related to odor and color were similar in meat and meat analog products.

Cultivated mushrooms are well-known nutrient inputs for an equilibrated diet. Some species are broadly appreciated due to their medicinal properties. Lately, a number of novel foods and nutraceuticals based on dehydrated and freeze-dried powder obtained from cultivated mushrooms has been reaching the market. The food industry requires fast and reliable tools to prevent fraud. In this, work we have cultivated Agaricus bisporus sp. bisporus (AB) (white button mushroom), Agaricus bisporus sp. brunnescens (ABP) (portobello), Lentinula edodes (LE) (shiitake) and Grifola frondosa (GF) (maitake) using tailor-made substrates for the different species and standardized cropping conditions, which were individually freeze-dried to obtain the samples under evaluation. The aim of this article was to validate the use of two different methodologies, namely, electronic nose and sensory panel, to discriminate the olfactory profile of nutritional products based on freeze-dried mushrooms from the different cultivated species. Additionally, GC-MS was used to detect and quantify the most abundant volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the samples. The multivariate analysis performed proved the utility of electronic nose as an analytical tool, which was similar to the classical sensory panel but faster in distinguishing among the different species, with one limitation it being unable to differentiate between the same species. GC-MS analysis showed the chemical volatile formulation of the samples, also showing significant differences between different samples but high similarities between varieties of the same cultivated species. The techniques employed can be used to prevent fraud and have the potential to evaluate further medicinal mushroom species and build solid and trustful connections between these novel food products and potential consumers.

Epsilon toxin (Etx) from Clostridium perfringens is the third most potent toxin after the botulinum and tetanus toxins. Etx is the main agent of enterotoxemia in ruminants and is produced by Clostridium perfringens toxinotypes B and D, causing great economic losses. Etx selectively binds to target cells, oligomerizes and inserts into the plasma membrane, and forms pores. A series of mutants have been previously generated to understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms of the toxin and to obtain valid molecular tools for effective vaccination protocols. Here, two new non-toxic Etx mutants were generated by selective deletions in the binding (Etx-ΔS188-F196) or insertion (Etx-ΔV108-F135) domains of the toxin. As expected, our results showed that Etx-ΔS188-F196 did not exhibit the usual Etx binding pattern but surprisingly recognized specifically an O-glycoprotein present in the proximal tubules of the kidneys in a wide range of animals, including ruminants. Although diminished, Etx-ΔV108-F135 maintained the capacity for binding and even oligomerization, indicating that the mutation particularly affected the pore-forming ability of the toxin.

This paper presents a multi-criteria methodology for the detection of optimal locations for solar photovoltaic installations connected to the electrical grid. The proposed methodology has been applied to the island of Tenerife, as it is one of the territories in Spain with the greatest solar potential. This methodology integrates an Aptitude Model (which covers variables such as connections to the electrical grid, accessibility, cloudiness, solar irradiation and slope) together with an Impact Model (which considers variables such as landscape vulnerability, land use and hydrology). Each one of the variables considered has been transformed into standardized decision criteria, which have been weighted by means of Saaty’s pair method, having also assigned them relative weights by means of expert consultation. The integration of both Models in a Hosting Capacity Model makes it possible to consider urban and environmental constraints in different possible scenarios. Finally, the Hosting Capacity Model generated is implemented through a Geographic Information System (GIS) on the island of Tenerife, so that it has been possible to detect the optimum locations for each municipality and region.

This paper examines the expression of futurity in Spanish, specifically the periphrastic future (PF), the morphological future (MF), and the present indicative (PI) in heritage language learners (HLLs) and second language learners (L2 learners), a comparison that allowed us to explore whether linguistic experience provides HLLs an advantage over L2 learners in the domain of morphosyntax. These forms (PF, MF, and PI) are regulated by certainty, temporal distance, and the presence of temporal adverbials. Previous research showed that L2 learners acquire some of these linguistic constraints and that HLLs tend to reduce the MF to modal uses. Data from a contextualized acceptability judgment task completed by 46 HLLs and 42 L2ers manipulated for verb form, certainty, temporal distance, and adverb and revealed that (i) the PF and the MF were generally rated higher than the PI, (ii) HLLs were sensitive to the three linguistic factors examined, while the L2ers’ sensitivity was modulated by proficiency, and, relatedly, (iii) the two groups differed in the effect of proficiency. For the L2 learners, an increase in proficiency led to a closer pattern to that of monolingual native speakers (only for temporal distance). Differences in exposure to and instruction in Spanish are discussed as possible sources of these differences.

En las últimas décadas la creciente llegada de población inmigrantes en España ha generado la determinación de nuevas políticas educativas de escolarización para el alumnado de origen extranjero. En la comunidad andaluza, se destaca la creación del “Aula Temporal de Aceleración Lingüística” para la promoción de la enseñanza de la lengua vehicular y la integración socioeducativa del alumnado de origen extranjero. El trabajo que aquí se presenta forma parte de proyecto nacional I+D+I (Ref. CSO2013-43266-R) sobre las trayectorias de estos dispositivos. Este artículo se formula bajo un doble objetivo: por un lado, analizar las variables didácticas que se desarrollan en las ATAL de dos centros públicos de educación secundaria de la provincia onubense; y por otro, valorar las semejanzas y disonancias entre dichas aulas a través de un estudio etnográfico, explicitando de igual modo los condicionantes en cuanto a tres ejes de análisis: física-funcional, temporal y relacional. Los resultados se dirigen hacia el reconocimiento del aula como espacio de apoyo emocional y de atención personal desde la configuración de ambientes de aprendizaje. Este hecho evidencia la reflexión hacia modelos educativos que conformen un marco de actuación intercultural como generadores de la inclusión para el alumnado extranjero en los centros educativos.

A pesar de que la educación superior desempeña una función cardinal en el logro de sociedades enfocadas a la consecución de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible proclamados por Naciones Unidas en 2015, se ha detectado una falta de marcos comunes sobre las competencias a integrar en los grados universitarios (Segalàs, Ferrer-Balas, Svansrom, Lundqvist, Mulder, 2009), sobre la necesidad de una formación más práctica e integradora, de actualización permanente del profesorado y de liderazgo organizacional para un logro efectivo de la Educación para el Desarrollo Sostenible (Van Weenen, 2000). Este artículo estudia y propone identificar las necesidades formativas en el perfil profesional del Grado de Educación Social en la Universidad Complutense de Madrid, a partir de la dimensión del desarrollo sostenible. La metodología de investigación utilizada ha sido de carácter cualitativo, empleando instrumentos como entrevistas semiestructuradas y grupos de enfoque con especialistas de diferentes ámbitos: tercer sector y sociedad civil; gestores de educación superior y miembros de la comunidad universitaria. Se perfila, de los resultados obtenidos, la necesidad de repensar la educación desde la mirada de la sostenibilidad. Incorporando al perfil del educador social dimensiones como la antropo-ética en los procesos formativos, valores como el respeto y cuidado de la comunidad de vida, la integridad ecológica, la justicia social, la economía sostenible; y, reforzar valores como la democracia, participación y cultura de paz. Se concluye con la necesidad de tener en cuenta en el proceso de enseñanza aprendizaje una cuarta dimensión competencial: saber convivir.

This study evaluates whether women with PCOS have a different body composition than non-PCOS women (controls), estimated by anthropometric methods, and whether body composition and PCOS condition could be predictors of insulin resistance (IR) and lipid profile (LP) in an independent manner. A case-control study was conducted in which women (126) were diagnosed with PCOS by the Rotterdam criteria and controls (159) were women without PCOS attending the gynecological clinic for routine examinations. Women with PCOS had higher body mass index, percentage of fat mass, and testosterone than controls. A higher fat mass predicted higher levels of triglycerides, LDL-c, and lower levels of HDL-c independently of PCOS condition. HOMA-IR was related to fat mass and was more significant in patients with PCOS. A higher bone mass was associated with lower total cholesterol and LDL-c independent of PCOS condition. Lower HOMA-IR remained associated with PCOS regardless of bone mass. Lean mass percentages predicted a better metabolic profile (lower triglycerides and higher HDL-c), and was also modulated by PCOS condition. Our results highlight the importance of body composition as an anthropometrical characteristic of PCOS, and the relationship of fat mass with a worse metabolic profile. In addition, PCOS condition was associated with worse HOMA-IR independent of body composition.

The aim of this research was to estimate the fatty acid (FA) content of intramuscular fat from beef by Fourier transform mid-infrared (FT-MIR) spectroscopy. Four diets were supplemented in 10% linseed (LS) and/or 2% conjugated linoleic acid (CLA): CON (without L or CLA), LS, CLA, and LS+CLA. For each diet, 12 young Holstein bulls were allocated. The spectral response of the beef samples was analyzed applying FT-MIR spectroscopy (from 400 to 4000 cm−1) and predictive models were developed using partial least square regression with cross-validation. The obtained coefficients (R2) for some FA, such as α-linolenic acid with a R2 = 0.96 or n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFA) with R2 = 0.93, demonstrate that FT-MIR spectroscopy is a valid technique to estimate the content of FA. In addition, samples were correctly classified according to the animal diet using discriminant analysis in the region 3000–1000 cm−1. The obtained results suggest that the FT-MIR spectroscopy could be a viable technique for routine use in quality control because it provides fast and sustainable analysis of FA content. Furthermore, this technique allows the rapid estimation of the FA composition, specifically n-3 PUFA and CLA, of nutritional interest in meat. It also allows the classification of meat samples by the animal diet.

The aim of this study is to examine the effectiveness of a training program mindfulness to reduce anxiety levels. The sample consisted of 20 participants suffering from anxiety and high scores on ASI-3 and subscale of anxiety from SCL-90. A quasi-experimental comparison group design with pretest-posttest measurement with an experimental group and a control group with 10 participants each group was performed. As instruments of assessment questionnaires ASI-3, MAAS, and SCL-90 were used. Statistical analyzes show a reduction in all in dimensions of anxiety sensitivity factor and anxiety subscale of the SCL-90 once the interventions as well as improvement in the ability to be present or mindfulness measured by the MAAS scale. The results are consistent with other research which has show the effectiveness of mindfulness techniques in improving the symptoms of anxiety

La investigación realizada tiene como objetivo profundizar en la aplicación del enfoque AICLE/CLIL (Aprendizaje Integrado de Contenidos y Lenguas Extranjeras/Content and Language Integrated Learning) combinado con metodologías activas en la impartición de las asignaturas School Organization and Teaching, Curriculum Development y Teacher Practicum I y II. Hemos realizado una investigación cualitativa con estudio de caso en un grupo del grado de educación primaria de la Universidad de Huelva (España). Este fue seleccionado intencionalmente por ser la primera promoción plurilingüe. Los resultados obtenidos muestran valoraciones positivas en más del 90% de los participantes y se han identificado mejoras necesarias para el éxito de este tipo de programas.

La presente tesis doctoral trata de ahondar en el conocimiento de la violencia para, después, proponer distintas actuaciones que puedan servir para avanzar hacia la tan ansiada cultura de paz en los centros escolares y en la sociedad. Centro de la investigación es la formación del profesorado para poder prevenir la violencia escolar, intervenir en situaciones en las que la convivencia pacífica se ve amenazada y atender a la diversidad étnica, cultural y de género, pues aunque todo el alumnado está expuesto y puede ser posible víctima, el alumnado de origen inmigrante y las mujeres son un «blanco mucho más fácil».

To date, there are no sufficient data to make firm recommendations on the treatment of patients with severe thrombocytopenia who require antiplatelet therapy after experiencing acute coronary syndrome. Therefore, we think that it is important to communicate the experience with individual cases. We report the case of a patient who presented with pericardial effusion causing cardiac tamponade. He had thrombocytopenia associated with myelodysplastic syndrome, and ten weeks before this admission, percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty with implantation of drug-eluting stents was performed for non-ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndrome. Platelets in myelodysplastic syndromes are dysfunctional, which exacerbates bleeding from thrombocytopenia, and the management of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease in these patients is challenging.

The aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of an olive extract (OE) on the physicochemical and microbiological characteristics, lipid oxidation and volatile compounds of beef patties stored both aerobically and under modified atmosphere packaging for 15 days at 4 °C. The antioxidant and antimicrobial effects of the OE were compared to those of sulfite. Four formulations were elaborated according to the antioxidant and dose used: without antioxidant, C; 300 mg potassium metabisulfite/kg product, S; 150 mg OE/kg product, OE1; and 250 mg of OE/kg product, OE2. The parameters analyzed were pH, water activity, color, lipid oxidation (TBARS and volatile organic compounds: hexanal, 2-pentyl-furan, 1-pentanol, 2,3-octanedione and nonanal, 1-octen-2-ol) and total viable counts. The OE delayed the loss of the bright red color of the patties and reduced the lipid oxidation in both types of packaging compared to the control patty. Sulfite was the most effective antioxidant for inhibition of the total viable counts. An OE could be used as a natural antioxidant to delay the lipid oxidation of meat without negatively affecting its physicochemical properties.

This review describes the effects of processing and preservation technologies on sensory and nutritional quality of meat products. Physical methods such as dry aging, dry curing, high pressure processing (HPP), conventional cooking, sous-vide cooking and 3D printing are discussed. Chemical and biochemical methods as fermentation, smoking, curing, marination, and reformulation are also reviewed. Their technical limitations, due to loss of sensory quality when nutritional value of these products is improved, are presented and discussed. There are several studies focused either on the nutritional or sensorial quality of the processed meat products, but more studies with an integration of the two aspects are necessary. Combination of different processing and preservation methods leads to better results of sensory quality; thus, further research in combinations of different techniques are necessary, such that the nutritional value of meat is not compromised.

The aim of this work was to set the quality standards of the chistorra de Navarra, a raw-cured Spanish traditional meat product, through the study of its sensory and physicochemical features. The quality of chistorra samples, coming from 50 different artisan producers, were assessed during three sessions by expert assessors (n = 15). In the first session, instrumental colour (L*, a*, and b*) and appearance and odour parameters were evaluated in the raw products. In the second session, texture and flavour attributes were determined in cooked products. Finally, in the third session, the best 10 classified chistorras from the first and second sessions were sensorially evaluated and sampled for further analysis: texture (Warner Bratzler and texture profile analysis (TPA)), chemical composition, and fatty acid profile. The chistorras with the highest sensory scores had high shear force values, flavour intensity, and fat/hydroxyproline ratio. The average fatty acid profile obtained for chistorra de Navarra was: 42% saturated fatty acids (SFA), 45% monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA), and 13% polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), which was similar to the one found in other raw-cured sausages. Considering the sensory evaluation, chistorra was defined as a product with an intense orange colour, and with high resistance value in the initial bite. It was also characterised by a high juiciness and tenderness, aroma, and meat flavour. In mouth, the pork fat, one of the ingredients of chistorra, was balanced without any of the ingredients dominating. Chemically, the chistorra was characterised by a fat content close to 67% (dry matter), low hydroxyproline occurrence (≤0.6), and protein amount ranging 18–38%.
