Abstract

YBCO air-bridge microbolometers are fabricated by depositing high temperature superconductive YBCO thin films on silicon substrates using silicon micromachining. The bolometers have a gain ratio which is one order of magnitude higher than that of conventional bolometers. They also have time constants as low as 81 microseconds and are phonon noise limited. These features make the bolometers suitable for infrared imaging applications.

Abstract

The sensitivity of switching voltage to infrared light power makes thin metal-ferroelectric PbTiO3-semiconductor switch diode (MFSS) suitable for room-temperature high-speed infrared sensing. The device shows a fast rise time of 0.647 micro-sec and a wide voltage variation of 9 volts for sensing the infrared light. Its fabrication on an integrated sensor device is simple. The device is able to switch the electrical circuit by itself for a given threshold level of infrared light power. The effects of the thickness of PbTiO3 on switching voltage are discussed.

Abstract

The transport mechanisms which cause the photovoltaic multiquantum well intersubband infrared detectors are theoretically analyzed. Optimized photovoltaic devices possess detectivities which are larger than photoconductive cells. A high dynamic range is exhibited by the transport mechanism, and is well suited for the occurrence of layer photon fluxes in the 8 to 12 micrometer regime.
