Studies on audiences’ information behavior paint a mixed picture of young and old people’s interests, their involvement with news and information, and the effects news consumption has on their learning. By adapting Giddens’s structuration approach, this study aims to assess audience behavior and its relationship with journalism by comparing the use behavior and attitudes of three age groups—adolescents, young adults, and adults—as characterized by distinct media socialization and use patterns. We identify types of information orientation—that is, a typology of behavior and attitudes towards news and information—for the examination of news audiences. Based on a representative face-to-face survey (N = 1,508) with German adolescents (14–17 years old), young adults (18–24 years old), and adults (40–53 years old), we identify four types that can be characterized by a certain pattern of news-related attitudes, the use of sources, and their relevance to opinion formation, as well as the perceived information level of participants. We examine how these types of information orientation differ between and among the three age groups and explore their relationship with audiences’ socio-political knowledge. The findings show that not all young people are necessarily less interested and engaged with news and journalism than older people. Moreover, it is a combination of interest with the use and perceived relevance of journalistic sources that is relevant for positive effects on information levels.

The structures of hospitals have evolved to make them centre on patients and their pathologies, with care procedures that are both interprofessional and interorganisational. This has given rise to work environments made up of teams obliged to collaborate in their problem-solving, with an essential focus on proper collaborative information behaviour (CIB). The aim was to study this behaviour in a clinical service of a hospital in relation to two aspects: information culture (IC) and the exchange of information. This entailed designing a two-part descriptive study. The first step was to administer a survey based on the information orientation model to know more about the service’s IC. The second phase focussed on the exchange of information from the perspective of an analysis of social networks. The main characteristic of IC was its proactive nature, especially in the use of information to improve one’s own work (mean = 4.58) and to respond to changes and new developments relating to work (mean = 4.18). The factor that least characterised IC was control, particularly in relation to knowledge of the objective of the activity itself (mean = 2.67) and the dispersion of information about hospital processes (mean = 2.64). On social networks, factors contrary to an interprofessional CIB were identified, such as homophily and low reciprocity in terms of relationships. In practice, the results identified a need to reinforce the perception of information as a resource, the proper use of which benefits job performance at both an individual and group level. A need to reinforce flows of internal hospital-related information was likewise evident. From a theoretical and methodological point of view, a useful tool is made available for diagnosing the collaborative information behaviour of an organisation and designing strategies to improve it. Websites are a tool for wineries to achieve their business objectives more easily. It is analysed whether the wineries use this tool and, if so, the role it plays in their marketing strategy is investigated, taking into account the guidelines established in the literature. There is a high rate of websites, but content analysis shows that the most basic orientation (providing information) is predominant; followed by interactive communication, with transactional orientation showing little presence. The paper presents the results of a study about information management, information technology management and behaviors and values concerning information in Brazilian institutions of higher education. The ‘information orientation’ (IO) model, developed by Donald A. Marchand, William J. Kettinger and John D. Rollins (2000) was adopted as a conceptual basis for the study. The data was collected through questionnaires filled by 83 (eighty-three) managers of higher education institutions (HEI) located in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The results show that, as perceptions of their managers, HEI are oriented towards information, although this guideline varies according to the dimensions of the construct of the HI Model, which has as central information management, information technology and informational values and behaviors. It was noted that the managers of HEI perceive each of these elements, there is a predominance of HEI Information Technology.

Recently, the web index of Korea peaked at the top 10 among the eighty six countries, and Korea became the only Asian country ranked at the top level. Korea also has been on the top in the field of Internet penetration rate, in terms of both high-speed broadband and wireless Internet. However, such achievements did not guarantee the national level for the effective use of information utilizing Internet. According to OECD, the national informatization index of Korea has not been free from the middle of the OECD countries. Despite of the heightened pressure in practically enhancing effective information use utilizing Internet, the previous research interests and efforts to develop the Internet-related framework or to identify Internet capabilities rarely existed. The study aims to propose the framework, named "Internet Information Orientation" that illustrates the relationship between Internet capabilities and national competitiveness on Internet. The research identified the specific Internet capabilities, reclassified the capabilities based on the research issues provided at the 6th international conference on Internet held in December 2014, and finally described the rigorous research endeavors on the issues. As a result, 16 papers presented and selected as the outstanding papers at the conference handle issues to be brought together, which include: Wireless Network, Internet of Things, Green Computing, Multimedia Processing, Big Data and Text Mining, Database in Cloud Environment, Business Intelligence, Software Engineering, IT Strategy & Policy, and Social Network Services. Supply chain management (SCM) is an important strategic tool that requires careful planning and management. While the availability of real-time information is a critical aspect of an SCM system, it possesses a potential to disrupt supply chain participants. Thus, the success of an SCM system hinges on how well participants deal with changes taking place in a real-time environment. This study adopts the concept of the real-time enterprise to understand the role of change management on SCM performance based on the concept of the information orientation. This study frames antecedents of effective information use, outlining a nomological network that firms follow to achieve integrated information delivery and effective information use. Our focus is on senior business executives' assessment of information delivered by their organizations' information systems. We first clarify the definition of information as it relates to information delivery and effective use. Then, drawing from institutional theory and the resource-based view of the firm, we propose a research model consisting of external institutional pressure, internal information systems (IS) resources, integrated information delivery, and effective information use and empirically test it through a field survey of senior business executives and post hoc qualitative analysis. Our findings position information delivery as an important research construct leading to effective information use and value. Our study also highlights the important role of the IS function as a facilitator of effective information use and a nurturer of a strong information culture in organizations. Only a strong interaction of people, information and technology can improve business performance. The Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the new age has to be a 'hybrid' business and information systems manager who can play a major role in strategy formulation for effective use of information technology, who does not neglect the human side of the information equation, and who does not forget that information has to be managed like any other resource and thus puts the 'I' back in the 'IT'. This leads to new aspects of what kind of competencies and skills a CIO, a 'hybrid' business and information systems manager, must have. In the paper a recently developed Information Systems Management under- and post-graduate curriculum is verified whether it sustains sufficient degree of relevancy to the needs of present-day business community. To succeed in the global marketplace, companies must reposition themselves to tap the sources of sustainable growth. After failing to connect information technology investments with business performance, successful senior managers today know that 'effective use of information' does not equal merely a new IT solution. Instead, business performance can only be improved with an excellence at using information proactively, sensing and processing information appropriately, and deploying IT for management support. The knowledge workers, on whom every company depends since the success depends on how fast they utilize proper information, should be the focus of information use in organizations. The paper presents three information capabilities that form information orientation, a high-level idea of senior managers, which embraces expectations of the business community regarding business-information systems professionals. Based on that presentation, a framework of topics for MScIS/MBA educational programs is developed. Enterprise resource planning (ERP) is an IT system that supports the business functions that firms adopt to gain advantages and development possibilities. However, some firms do not show positive financial performance after implementing ERP. Why is this the case? An ERP is an information system (IS) that brings about radical changes within organizations, changing both the IS environment and overall corporate business process, which may cause resistance from the organization's members. Thus, change management is crucial, in operating a successful ERP, to addressing organizational changes after the adoption of ERP. The objective of this study was to examine the influence that the depth of business process reengineering (BPR) and change management have on ERP performances. To this end, KOSPI companies with more than a year of experience using ERP were analyzed using the structural equation method. This study confirmed mutual relationships between ERP success factors and its performance. In future research, it would be helpful to determine if companies with higher IT performances actually have better financial results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

RESUMO O presente trabalho apresenta os resultados de uma pesquisa a respeito dos comportamentos e valores informacionais em uma empresa do setor de transporte aéreo brasileiro. Acredita-se que tais comportamentos e valores resultam no uso eficiente da informação que, por sua vez, irá contribuir para a melhoria do desempenho organizacional. Os dados coletados para o presente estudo foram obtidos mediante a aplicação de um questionário distribuído via Internet e a realização de seis entrevistas semiestruturadas. As respostas dos 32 profissionais que participaram do estudo demonstraram que, algumas das capacidades consideradas fundamentais à obtenção de um desempenho superior quanto ao uso efetivo da informação, necessitam de maior atenção por parte dos gestores da organização.
