8. Primary and residual impacts of phosphoric acid modified biochar on growth and concentrations of essential and non-essential elements in lettuce and second crop arugula.

Abstract

The study aimed to explore how phosphoric acid-modified rice husk biochar (PBC) affects the growth and concentrations of essential and non-essential elements in two crops: lettuce as the primary crop and arugula as the secondary crop. The treatments consisted of a no P fertilized control and 250 mg P kg−1 sourced either from PBC, triple super phosphate (TSP) or phosphoric acid (PA). When subjected to phosphorus (P) sources, both lettuce and arugula exhibited a noteworthy rise in their dry weights compared to the control plants. PBC treatments significantly increased P concentration in both plants. Although the PBC treatment decreased lettuce nitrogen (N) concentration, it had no impact on arugula N concentration. Phosphorus treatments resulted in a decrease in lettuce K concentration, whereas it increased in arugula. Calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg) and sulfur (S) concentrations in both plants were not affected by P sources. The zinc (Zn) concentrations of the plants notably decreased with P treatments. Moreover, P treatments led to a reduction in manganese (Mn) concentration specifically in arugula. PBC significantly increased the silicon (Si) concentrations of lettuce plants. The application of PA significantly increased the vanadium (V) concentration in arugula. Phosphoric acid treatments resulted in an increase in the plant bromine (Br) concentrations. To conclude, PBC may serve as an alternative P source, potentially being as effective as or even more effective than other P sources in influencing plant nutrition, without causing an undesirable elevation of non-essential elements in plants. Abstract

Objective: Familial Mediterranean Fever (FMF) is an autosomal recessive autoinflammatory disease, including reiterative feverish bouts of joint pain, and abdominal and chest pain as a consequence of serosal inflammation. In the course of acute attacks, multifarious proinflammatory cytokines have been depicted to increase. In previous studies, it has been underlined that IL-33, a recent member of the IL-1 cytokine superfamily, has an essential role in the inflammation. Here, we aimed to evaluate serum IL-33 levels in FMF patients to investigate its presumable importance in the FMF formation mechanism. Materials and Methods: A total of 58 FMF patients (21 females, 37 males; mean age 27.8 ± 5.2 years, mean disease duration 8.2 ± 3.7 years) and 22 healthy controls (10 females, 12 males, mean age 26.5 ± 5.9 years) were incorporated into this research. ELISA was utilized to measure serum IL-33 concentrations. Results: The mean concentrations of serum IL-33 were 3.88 ± 2.25 pg/ml and 2.89 ± 0.48 pg/ml in the patient and control groups respectively. The mean serum IL-33 concentrations were 5.48 ± 2.13 pg/ml and 2.27 ± 0.36 pg/ml in the active phase and in the inactive phase respectively. According to these results, serum IL-33 concentrations were prominently higher in FMF patients compared with the control group (p<0.01). Moreover, serum IL-33 concentrations were measured significantly higher in the active phase compared with serum IL-33 levels in the inactive phase and controls respectively (p<0.0001 and p<0.0001). The mean serum IL-33 levels in patients with active FMF was associated with arthritis (p<0.05). Conclusion: To sum up, the high concentrations of serum IL-33 in the active FMF cases propose that IL-33 may operate a remarkable function in the pathogenesis of FMF. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Interaction between phosphorus (P), zinc (Zn), and iron (Fe) alters plant nutrient concentrations and nutritional quality. In this regard, there are a limited number of studies on P and micronutrient relations in lettuce plants. In this study, the effects of Zn and Fe applications on plant growth, concentrations, and contents of P, Zn, Fe, copper (Cu), and manganese (Mn) were determined in lettuce plants grown under increasing P rates. Lettuce plants grown under increasing P rates (0, 100, 200, and 400 mg kg−1 P) were treated with either sole or combined applications of 20 mg kg−1 Zn and 30 mg kg−1 Fe. Fresh and dry weights, P concentrations, and contents of lettuce were increased by P fertilization. With Zn and Fe applications, lettuce Fe contents were increased by medium P rates. Plant Zn contents were increased by P fertilization when the plant supplied Zn alone. Besides the highest P rate, Zn and Fe increased plant Zn content through P fertilization. Under no micronutrient condition, Cu concentration revealed insignificant changes, but its content was significantly increased by P application. Plant Mn concentration only increased by low P when the plant supplied Zn however Mn contents of lettuce were increased by P fertilization. In conclusion, even high P doses had no significant impact on Fe, Zn, Cu, and Mn concentrations in lettuce plants. Plant Zn concentrations increased when Zn was applied with Fe. Likewise, Cu increased but manganese declined. This emphasizes the importance of simultaneous Zn and Fe fertilizer application, especially in Zn biofortification research. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The first cases of COVID-19 were identified in China in 2019, and the disease subsequently spread rapidly around the world, leading it to be declared a pandemic. The disease affects the lungs through the upper and lower respiratory tracts, and with the development of pneumonia, a clinical picture leading to respiratory failure referred to as cytokine storm occurs as a result of excessive cytokine production associated with an excessive inflammatory immune response. The increase in inflammatory markers is related to acute respiratory distress syndrome, disseminated intravascular coagulation and hypercoagulation. Abstract

For the purpose of evaluating present and future trends of professions within the labor market, text mining approach could be an alternative to more traditional approaches such as employer surveys. Specifically, machine learning algorithms are used for making accurate predictions about the future directions of the professions which consequently will influence professional development of labour force. The aim of this study is to investigate the professions of the future and current in Turkey by the application of supervised learning algorithms and clustering methods to various Turkish data including documents belonging to Turkey's institutions. In this study, the popular professions were predicted with an accuracy rate between ≅0.81 and ≅0.93 thorough various machine learning algorithms. It was discovered that methodologically perceptron and stochastic gradient descent algorithms demonstrated superiority over other algorithms thanks to their intelligence functions. Furthermore, the analysis of current professions in Turkey revealed that the class of "Professional occupations", "Managers" and "Technicians and assistant professional members" were popular, and according to the analysis of the future, information technology-based occupations will be important. Although limited Turkish data sources for the analysis of future, results with an accuracy of nearly 1 were produced., İşgücü piyasasındaki mesleklerin mevcut ve gelecekteki eğilimlerini belirlemede metin madenciliği yaklaşımı, işveren anketleri gibi geleneksel yöntemlere alternatif olarak kullanılabilir. Teknik olarak, iş gücünün mesleki gelişimini etkileyecek mesleklerin, gelecekteki eğilimleri hakkında doğru tahminlerde bulunmak için makine öğrenme algoritmaları kullanılmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, Türkiye'deki kurumlara ait belgeler de dahil olmak üzere, çeşitli Türkçe verilere denetimli öğrenme algoritmaları ve kümeleme yöntemleri uygulanarak, Türkiye'deki geleceğin ve şimdiki mesleklerin araştırılmasıdır. Çalışmada, çeşitli makine öğrenme algoritmaları aracılığıyla ≅0.81 ve ≅0.93 arasında bir doğruluk oranıyla, popüler meslekler tahmin edilmiştir. Metodolojik olarak Perceptron ve Stokastik Gradyan İniş algoritmalarının, içerdiği zeka fonksiyonları sayesinde diğer algoritmalara göre üstünlük gösterdiği keşfedilmiştir. Ayrıca, Türkiye'deki mevcut mesleklerin analizi, "Profesyonel meslekler", "Yönetici" ve "Teknisyen ve meslek mensubu yardımcıları" sınıfının popüler olduğu ve gelecek analizine göre bilgi teknolojisi tabanlı mesleklerin önemli olacağı çıkarımı yapılmıştır. Geleceğin analizi için sınırlı Türkçe veri kaynakları olmasına rağmen, yaklaşık 1 doğrulukta sonuçlar üretilmiştir.

Abstract

AbstractNeoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) in gastroesophageal junction (GEJ) and gastric cancer (GC) was shown to improve survival in recent studies. We aimed to share our real-life experience of patients who received NACT to compare the efficacy and toxicity profile of different chemotherapy regimens in our country. This retrospective multicentre study included locally advanced GC and GEJ cancer patients who received NACT between 2007 and 2021. Relation between CT regimens and pathological evaluation were analysed. A total of 794 patients from 45 oncology centers in Turkey were included. Median age at the time of diagnosis was 60 (range: 18–86). Most frequent NACT regimens used were FLOT (65.4%), DCF (17.4%) and ECF (8.1%), respectively. In the total study group, pathological complete remission (pCR) rate was 7.2%, R0 resection rate 86.4%, and D2 dissection rate was 66.8%. Rate of pCR and near-CR (24%), and R0 resection (84%) were numerically higher in FLOT arm (p > 0.05). Patients who received FLOT had also higher chemotherapy-related toxicity rate compared to patients who received other regimens (p > 0.05). Median follow-up time was 16 months (range: 1–154 months). Estimated median overall survival (OS) was 58.4months (95% CI: 35.2–85.7) and disease-free survival (DFS) was 50.7 months (95% CI: 25.4–75.9). The highest 3-year estimated OS rate was also shown in FLOT arm (68%). We still do not know which NACT regimen is the best choice for daily practice.  Clinicians should tailor treatment regimens according to patients’ multifactorial status and comorbidities for to obtain best outcomes. Longer follow-up period needs to validate our results.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the combined effects of goat manure (GM, 5 t ha-1) and its biochar (BC, 10 t ha-1) on fertilizer use efficiency under different ratios of inorganic fertilizer (IF, 100%, 50% and 0%) of onion plant and also on their growth and development. For this purpose, trials have been carried out with green onions (cv. Metan 88) in the spring of 2018 and after the experiment, the average fresh and dry weight, total yield, N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Zn, Cu and Mn concentrations of plants measured. Results showed that the yield components of the plant weight and total yield were significantly increased only in BC+GM treatment. N concentrations of onion plants were increased by 100% IF, BC and BC+GM treatments, while K, Ca and Mg concentrations were increased BC and BC+GM treatment in which IF not applied. Conclusively, BC+GM combination was found to be the best practice among the treatments studied regarding the onion plant., Bu çalışmanın amacı, farklı inorganik gübre (%100, %50 ve %0 İG) düzeylerinde keçi gübresi (KG, 5 t ha-1) ve bundan elde edilen biyokömür (BK, 10 t ha-1) uygulamalarının ayrı ayrı ve birlikte uygulanmasının soğan bitkisinin gelişimi ile inorganik gübreden (İG) yararlanma düzeylerine etkisini belirlemiştir. Bu amaçla; 2018 ilkbaharında taze soğan (Metan 88) bitkisi yetiştirilmiş ve deneme sonunda ortalama bitki yaş ve kuru ağırlığı, toplam verim, N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Zn, Cu ve Mn konsantrasyonları belirlenmiştir. Deneme alanında, %100 İG, BK ve BK+KG uygulamalarıyla N içeriği, İG uygulanmayan bitkilerde tüm organik gübre uygulamalarıyla P içeriği, BK ve BK+KG uygulamalarıyla K, Ca ve Mg içeriği artış göstermiştir. BK uygulaması tek başına bitki Fe ve Cu içeriklerini önemli düzeyde azaltmış, İG uygulamaları Zn içeriğini artırmıştır. BK ve BK+KG uygulamaları bitki Mn içeriğini önemli düzeyde artırmıştır. Sonuç olarak BK ve KG’nin birlikte uygulamasının verim ve verim öğeleri açısından daha uygun olduğu belirlenmiştir.

Abstract

WOS: 000432900700002 PubMed ID: 29644886 Background: Mometasone furoate, one of the second generation intranasal corticosteroids, is currently used in suspension form due to its poor solubility. However, this is not favorable for nasal application because of the rapid elimination of the instilled drug from the nasal cavity by mucociliary clearance and delayed onset of action due to the slow dissolution of drug in suspension. Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the antiallergic effects of mucoadhesive thermosensitive in situ gel containing mometasone furoate that we developed previously to prolong the contact between the drug and nasal mucosa and to prevent drainage of the formulation in an ovalbumin-induced rat model of allergic rhinitis. Methods: An experimental allergic rhinitis model was developed in female Wistar albino rats by intraperitoneal injection of ovalbumin every 2 days for 14 days followed by its repeated intranasal instillation for 7 consecutive days. Intranasal instillation of ovalbumin was continued every other day for 14 days. Mometasone furoate in situ gel (5 mu g/10 mu l), mometasone furoate suspension (5 mu g/10 mu l), and physiological saline (10 ml) were administered into the bilateral nasal cavities from day 22 to day 35. Antiallergic effects were evaluated through histopathological evaluation, analysis of ovalbumin-specific serum immunoglobulin E, and a symptom score. Results: Mometasone furoate in situ gel significantly decreased the nasal symptoms and ovalbumin-specific serum immunoglobulin E level as compared with mometasone furoate suspension and physiological saline. Additionally, inflammatory histological symptoms such as mucosal edema, vascular dilatation, eosinophil infiltration, and loss of cilia within the nasal mucosa of allergic rhinitis model rats were remarkably improved with the treatment of mometasone furoate in situ gel. Conclusion: These results suggest that mometasone furoate in situ gel has a better therapeutic potential for the treatment of allergic rhinitis compared to mometasone furoate suspension.
