OBJECTIVE: To explore the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on research in health professions. METHODS: It was a qualitative case study. Semi-structured interviews were done with researchers who were selected through purposive sampling. After thirteen interviews, data saturation was achieved. The interviews were recorded on zoom, transcribed verbatim, and analyzed manually for codes, categories, and themes. RESULTS: This study explored the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on health research through interviews with researchers, revealing three major themes and thirteen subthemes. The themes encompass the challenges encountered by researchers, the research opportunities provided by the pandemic, and modifications in ongoing and planned projects. All participants expressed that the pandemic brought numerous hurdles, including reduced research opportunities, challenges in data collection, small sample sizes, quality assurance concerns, and delays in project completion. However, it also offered silver linings such as the development of new competencies, a shift in research priorities, and increased reliance on virtual platforms for collaboration and data collection. These findings highlight both the obstacles and innovations prompted by the pandemic in health research. CONCLUSION: The COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted health research, acting as a catalyst for innovation, particularly through the increased use of digital tools and virtual platforms. While researchers faced substantial challenges like disruptions in methodologies and project timelines, these adaptations may persist as integral elements of the research paradigm in health professions, guiding future policy and practice beyond the pandemic.

The benzene and phenyl rings in the title compound, C14H9Cl3N2OS, form a dihedral angle of 40.98 (6)°. The molecule exists in the thione form with typical thiourea C—S [1.666 (2) Å] and C—O [1.227 (3) Å] bond lengths as well as shortened C—N bonds [1.345 (3) and 1.386 (2) Å]. An intramolecular N—H...O hydrogen bond stabilizes the molecular conformation. In the crystal, pairs of N—H...S hydrogen bonds link the molecules into centrosymmetric dimers.

The title molecule, C12H10N2O5, is non-planar with dihedral angles of 89.08 (7) and 83.21 (7)° between the phthalimide and acetamide mean planes, and the acetamide and acetic acid mean planes, respectively. In the crystal, symmetry-related molecules are linked via N—H...O and O—H...O hydrogen bonds, forming an undulating two-dimensional network. There are also a number of weak C—H...O interactions, leading to the formation of a three-dimensional arrangement.

The Sn atom in the polymeric title compound, [Sn(C6H5)3(C10H16NO3)]n, is five-coordinated within a trans-C3O2 donor set that defines an approximate trigonal-bipyramidal geometry. The carboxylate ligand is monodentate and the amide O atom bridges a symmetry-related Sn atom, generating a chain along [010] with a linear topology. An intramolecular carboxylate–carbonyl N—H...O hydrogen bond is responsible for the curved conformation within the carboxylate ligand.

In the title polymeric complex, [Sn(C6H5)3(C14H16NO3)]n, adjacent triphenyltin cations are bridged by the N-cyclohexylphthalamate anion through the carboxylate and carbonyl O atoms, forming a helical chain running along the b axis. The amide N atom is a hydrogen-bond donor to the uncoordinated carboxylate O atom. The geometry at the five-coordinate Sn atom is trans-C3SnO2 trigonal-bipyramidal.

The title complex, [PdCl2(C25H22P2)], is a slightly distorted square-planar bis(diphenylphosphino)methane cis-complex of PdCl2. The structure of a polymorph of the title compound has been described earlier, but the arrangement of the molecules observed in the current structure is distinctively different from that previously reported [Steffen & Palenik (1976). Inorg. Chem. 15, 2432–2439]. The earlier report describes a structure with individual well separated molecules crystallizing in space group P21/n. The polymorph described here, which is isostructrural to its Pt analogue [Babai et al. (2006). Z. Anorg. Allg. Chem. 632, 639–644], crystallizes in C2/c with chains of C2-symmetric molecules stretching parallel to the b axis. The Pd atoms and the bisphosphinomethane units are located on two different positions created by a non-crystallographic mirror operation with an occupancy of 0.6677 (11) for the major (PCH2P)Pd moiety. The positions of the Cl atoms of the minor moiety do coincide perfectly with those of the next molecule along the chain parallel to b, and they are thus not included in the disorder. The phenyl rings also do not take part in the disorder and are common to both the major and minor moieties of the (PCH2P)PdCl2 units. Assuming no defects, molecules in each chain will thus have to be oriented the same way and the effect of the disorder of the (PCH2P)Pd unit is thus a reversal in direction of the chains parallel to b. The presence of light streaks of intensity between actual Bragg peaks indicates that a somehow ordered arrangement not resolved in the Bragg diffraction data may be present (i.e. an incommensurate superstructure) rather than a random or domain arrangement of the chains.

In the crystal structure of the title compound, C12H24N+·NCS−, the anions and cations are linked through N—H...N and N—H...S hydrogen bonds, resulting in a chain along the a axis.

Bioactive 1,1′-(4,4′-di-ferrocenyl)di-phenyl thiourea and various metal complexes of this ligand have been successfully synthesized and characterized by using physicoanalytical techniques such as FT-IR and multinuclear (1H and 13C) NMR spectroscopy along with melting point and elemental analyses. The interaction of the synthesized compounds with DNA has been investigated by using cyclic voltammetric and viscometric measurements. The intercalation of the complexes into the double helix structure of DNA is presumably occurring. Viscosity measurements of the complexes have shown that there is a change in length and this is regarded as the least ambiguous and the most critical test of the binding model in solution. The relative potential of the complexes as anti-bacterial, antifungal, and inhibition agents against the enzyme, alkaline phosphatase EC 3.1.3.1, has also been assessed and the complexes were found to be active inhibitors.

A series of imidazolium‐based symmetrical and asymmetrical dicationic ionic liquids (DcILs) with alkyl spacers of different length and with [FeCl3Br]− as counter ion have been synthesized. The synthesized DcILs are characterized by using FTIR and Raman spectroscopy as well as mass spectrometry, along with single‐crystal XRD analysis. Physicochemical properties such as solubility, thermal stability and magnetic susceptibility are also measured. These compounds show low melting points, good solubility in water and organic solvents, thermal stability, and paramagnetism. The products of molar susceptibility and temperature (χmol⋅T) for the synthesized DcILs have been found between 4.05 to 4.79 emu mol−1 K Oe−1 and effective magnetic moment values have also been determined to be compared to that expected from the spin‐only approximation.
