A project of the OLVE-HERO space detector for measurement of the cosmic rays in the range 1012-1016 eV is proposed. It will include a large ionization-neutron 3D calorimeter with a high granularity and geometric factor of ~16 m2٠sr. The main OLVE-HERO detector is expected to be an image calorimeter with boron loaded plastic scintillator and a tungsten absorber. Such a calorimeter allows to measure an additional neutron signal that should improve the detector energy resolution and also the rejection power between electromagnetic and nuclear components of cosmic rays. Improvement by factor 30-50 is expected. The OLVE-HERO detector prototype was designed and tested at SPS CERN beam during Pb ion run in 2018. Test results and the corresponding Monte-Carlo simulation are presented.

A series of experiments on the elastic scattering of 15N ions from 11B has been done at U-200P cyclotron at Heavy Ion Laboratory of the Warsaw University using the charged particles detection system ICARE. The measured relative differential cross-sections are used for obtaining the theoretical interpretation in terms of the Optical Model for pure elastic scattering and Distorted Wave Born Approximation for the cluster transfer mechanism. The accuracy of the interpretation depends on the systematic errors of the experiment. This work reports on a Monte Carlo (MC) study of such errors using the ExpertRoot simulation and analysis framework based on the FairRoot package. Influence of such factors as angular, spatial and energy spread of the beam, energy loss and multiple scattering in the target and the dimension of the detector slit on the angular resolution of the detector and the reconstructed relative differential cross-section are investigated. The MC model allowed to study the influence of the ion identification and detection efficiency and the energy resolution as well. However, in the given experiment these factors were not of any importance. As a result, it has been demonstrated that the main reasons for the deterioration of angular resolution are the beam spot size at the target and thickness of the target. Influence of the slit length is negligible, hence it can be increased for better detection efficiency. The reconstructed cross-section reproduces the input one quite well except for about 10% overestimation at small angles and 30% underestimation at large angles. The developed software will be used for planning and analysing similar experiments in the future.
