Abstract

We have reached a practical and realistic phase in human-support dialogue agents by developing a large language model (LLM). However, when requiring expert knowledge or anticipating the utterance content using the massive size of the dialogue database, we still need help with the utterance content's effectiveness and the efficiency of its output speed, even if using LLM. Therefore, we propose a framework that uses LLM asynchronously in the part of the system that returns an appropriate response and in the part that understands the user's intention and searches the database. Abstract

In today's society, information overload presents challenges in providing optimal recommendations. Consequently, the importance of dialogue systems that can discern and provide the necessary information through dialogue is increasingly recognized. However, some concerns existing dialogue systems rely on pre-trained models and need help to cope with real-time or insufficient information. To address these concerns, models that allow the addition of missing information to dialogue robots are being proposed. Yet, maintaining the integrity of previous conversation history while integrating new data remains a formidable challenge. Abstract

Various studies have been conducted on human-supporting robot systems. These systems have been put to practical use over the years and are now seen in our daily lives. In particular, robots communicating smoothly with people are expected to play an active role in customer service and guidance. In this case, it is essential to determine whether the customer is satisfied with the dialog robot or not. However, it is not easy to satisfy all of the customer's requests due to the diversity of the customer's speech. In this study, we developed a dialog mechanism that prevents dialog breakdowns and keeps the customer satisfied by providing multiple scenarios for the robot to take control of the dialog. 12. Improvement of Japanese Adults' English Speaking Skills via Experiences Speaking to a Robot

Abstract

This paper reports how robot-assisted language learning (RALL) impacts Japanese adults' English speaking skills. With existing research on RALL focusing on children, there is little evidence indicating RALL's effects on adults. We developed a RALL system comprising a robot, a tablet, and designed learning materials for speaking practice. To explore the effects of this system on the speaking skills of adults, we conducted a pretest and posttest designed pilot experiment. The participants in this study were nine female Japanese university students. The participants used the system for speaking practice for a total of 30 min per day for 7 days. The results of comparing the pretests with the posttests demonstrated that the adults' English speaking skills were enhanced; in particular, their speaking accuracy, fluency, and pronunciation improved greatly. This study contributes to providing clear evidence of the effects of RALL on Japanese adults' English speaking skills.

13. Multi-robot cooperative behavior for reducing unnaturalness of starting a conversation.

Abstract

In a human–robot conversation, it is difficult for the robot to start the conversation just when the addressee is ready to listen to the robot, due to recognition technology issues. This paper proposes and evaluates a method to reduce the sense of that the timing of starting the conversation is bad. In this method, two robots perform a cooperative behavior during a waiting time from the call for attracting addressee's attention to the main utterance the robot want to deliver. To evaluate the effectiveness of this method, we conducted an experiment that compared three conversation initiation approaches: early timing and late timing by one robot, and the proposed approach involving two robots. The results revealed that the proposed method mitigates the bad timing of main utterances as perceived by the participants. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
