Abstract

The article discusses the use of hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC) with ultraviolet (UV) detection in the analysis of melamine in milk powder. It mentions that HILIC does not require sample derivatization or ion-pair additive in the mobile phase. The procedures for preparation of pre-spiked melamine in milk powder extract are provided. Also noted is the feasibility of using UV detection to detect the melamine both in standard and spiked milk extracts.

Abstract

The article presents a study on the use of hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC) with ultraviolet (UV) detection in the analysis of melamine in milk powder. Results show the possibility of HILIC-UV method to be used in analyzing melamine of 0.1 μg/mL melamine in extracts from milk powder. As concluded, melamine has good retention and separation in the separation mode of HILIC on a zwitterionic stationary phase.
