Introduction:Knowledge about the taxonomic composition of the Costa Rican freshwater fish fauna has changed substantially in the last two decades. Not only due to the addition of new species andsupra-specific taxa, but also due to rearrangements and taxonomic changes at the different hierarchical levels. Theavailabletaxonomic keyswerepublished more than 20 years agoandare outdated.Objective:To provide up-to-date information, in a friendly language,forthe identification of allCosta Ricanfamiliesofcontinental and insularfishes.Methods:We used the literature, museum collections and recently collected specimens to update a2013family list.Results:The key covers53 families.The illustrated dichotomous key has is based on external characters that are relatively “easy” to identify.We also includeinformationaboutspecies composition, general distribution and habitat use.Conclusion:Thiskey allows the identification of 274 fish species to family level, as a basis for further identification. Introducción:El conocimiento sobre la composición taxonómica de la fauna de peces de agua dulce de Costa Rica ha cambiado sustancialmente en las últimas dos décadas. No solamente por la adición de nuevas especies ytáxonessupra-específicos, sino también por reordenamientos y cambios taxonómicos en los diferentes niveles jerárquicos. Las claves taxonómicas disponibles se publicaron hace más de 20 años y están desactualizadas.Objetivo:Brindar información actualizada, en lenguaje sencillo, para la identificación de todas las familias costarricenses de peces continentales e insulares.Métodos:Utilizamos literatura, colecciones de museos y especímenes recolectados recientemente para actualizar una lista del 2013.Resultados:La claveclavedicotómica ilustrada, que cubre 53 familias, se basa en características externas relativamente fáciles de identificar. También incluimos información sobre la composición de especies, distribución general y uso del hábitat.Conclusión:Esta clave permite la identificación de 274 especies de peces costarricenses a nivel de familia, como base para su identificación a categorías más bajas.&nbsp

Estuarine environments are highly dynamic supporting a great fish species diversity. The present study was conducted to estimate length-weight relationships for 12 fish species from the Canal de Santa Cruz system using conventional methods and Bayesian analysis. The samples were collected in one day each month between July 2013 and June 2014, obtained using gillnets (100 to 200 × 2.2 m, mesh size 30, 40, and 50 mm). A total of 12 fish species representing 3 orders and 6 families were analyzed. Of the 12 species in the present study, only Diapterus auratus, Diapterus rhombeus and Bairdiella ronchus were analyzed in Pernambuco state, and there is a limited of analysis for the species Strongylura marina, Harengula clupeola, Opisthonema oglinum, Anchovia clupeoides, Anchoa tricolor and Oligoplites saurus in region Northeast Brazil. Os ambientes estuarinos são altamente dinâmicos e têm uma grande diversidade de espécies de peixes. No presente estudo foram estimadas relações de peso-comprimento para 12 espécies de peixes no complexo estuarino do Canal de Santa Cruz, usando métodos convencionais e análise bayesiana. As amostras foram coletadas em um dia de cada mês, entre julho de 2013 e junho de 2014, e obtidas com redes de emalhar (100 a 200 × 2,2 m, malha 30, 40 e 50 mm). Foram analisadas 12espécies de peixes, representando 3 ordens e 6 famílias. Das 12 espécies estudadas, apenas Diapterus auratus, Diapterus rhombeus e Bairdiella ronchus foram analisadas no estado de Pernambuco, e há um número limitado de análises para as espécies Strongylura marina, Harengula clupeola, Opisthonema oglinum, Anchovia clupeoides, Anchoa tricolor e Oligoplites saurus na região Nordeste do Brasil.

Ichthyofauna and fish community were investigated at 17 representative stations of the Dongjin River drainage system from spring to fall in 2014. The survey resulted in a list of 53 species belonging to 14 families structured into 4 distinctive parts along the river: uppermost-stream, upper-stream, mid-stream, and lower-stream. Comparison of species lists with 30-year interval exhibited significant decreases in peripheral freshwater fishes, Acheilognathinae, endemic, and indigeneity species, but increases in exotic, epipelagic, and lentic species. Moreover, in the estuary of the Dongjin River drainage system, peripheral freshwater fish species were replaced by pure freshwater fish species due to the Saemangeum sea-wall project. In the upper region of the river, introduced eight alien species from Seomjin River via water diversion tunnels. In the mid-lower region, the construction of floodgates and numerous small weirs caused expansion of lentic water areas, facilitating the spread of problematic exotic species such as Micropterus salmoides, Lepomis macrochirus, and Carassius cuvieri. Also, water deterioration in this region resulted in an increase of tolerant species and a decrease of sensitive and endemic species. Our results suggest that a recovery strategy for a healthy ecosystem in the Dongjin River drainage system should reflect this compartmentalized cause and effect on the changes of icthyofauna.

This study presents an inventory of the ichthyofauna of the lower Roosevelt River sub-basin and its associated tributaries. Fish sampling with fishing nets and measurements of environmental parameters of water occurred in November/2012 (rising water), February/2013 (flooding), May/2013 (falling water) and August/2013 (drought). Depth mean was 8.86 m, water transparency was 0.6 m, conductivity was 22.7 µS.cm-1, pH was 6.59, dissolved oxygen was 7.63 mg.l-1 and temperature was 28°C. The total estimated capture area was 68,829.6 m2 during 2,880 hours. The catch per unit Effort (CPUE) was 0.37 individuals m-2.day-1. Species were spatially aggregated in all sampling points and river water levels. A total of 5,183 individuals distributed in 7 orders, 29 families, 104 genders and 188 species were sampled in this survey. The diversity index was 4.121 and equitability index was 0.789. The Characiforms order was the most abundant with 106 species, followed by Siluriforms with 63 species and Cichliforms with 23 species. The most abundant species was Serrasalmus rhombeus (Linnaeus, 1766) with 327 individuals (5.9%), followed by Chalceus epakros (Cope, 1870) with 309 individuals (5.6%) and Acestrorhynchus microlepis (Schomburgk, 1841) with 250 individuals (4.5%). Trophicity was characterized by omnivorous (28.6%), piscivorous (14.3%), carnivorous (13.8%) and detritivorous (12.8%). According to IBAMA's regulation, 29.25% of captured species presents ornamental potential. Resumo: Este estudo apresenta um inventário da ictiofauna da sub-bacia do baixo Rio Roosevelt e seus tributários associados. As coletas de peixes com malhadeiras e as medições de parâmetros ambientais da água ocorreram em Novembro/2012 (enchente), Fevereiro/2013 (cheia), Maio/2013 (vazante) e Agosto/2013 (seca). A média da profundidade foi 8,86 m, da transparência da água foi 0,6 m, da condutividade foi 22,7 µS.cm-1, do pH foi 6,59, do oxigênio dissolvido foi 7,63 mg.l-1 e da temperatura da água foi 28°C. A área total de captura estimada foi 68.829,6 m2 durante 2880 horas. A captura por unidade de esforço (CPUE) foi 0,37 indivíduos m-2.dia-1. As espécies foram espacialmente agregadas em todos os pontos de coleta e períodos de coleta. Um total de 5183 peixes em 7 ordens, 29 famílias, 104 gêneros e 188 espécies foram coletados. O índice de diversidade foi 4,121 e o índice de equidade foi 0,789. As ordens Characiforme, Siluriforme e Cichliforme foram as mais abundantes. As espécies Serrasalmus rhombeus Linnaeus 1766 com 327 indivíduos (5,9%), Chalceus epakros (Cope 1870) com 309 indivíduos (5,6%) e Acestrorhynchus microlepis Schomburgk 1841 com 250 indivíduos (4,5%) foram as mais abundantes. Os onívoros (28,6%), piscívoros (14,3%), carnívoros (13,8%) e detritívoros (12,8%) foram os indivíduos mais abundantes. De acordo com o IBAMA, 29,25% das espécies capturadas tem potencial ornamental.

Aim The present paper approached some issues related to the construction and adaptation of the Reservoir Fish Assemblage Index (RFAI). Method the case study presents the step by step construction of the multimetric index adopted for the Tietê cascade reservoir system, and it is discussed the comparison between discrete and continuous scoring criteria. Results The main questions related to the adaptation of multimetric indexes to reservoir were synthesized as: i – terminology question; ii - representative fish sampling; iii – reference condition. The construction of the RFAI for the Tietê cascade reservoir system resulted in seven steps, and the continuous scoring criterion showed to increase the accuracy of the final index when compared to the discrete scoring especially for the most degraded environment. Conclusion Biological criteria for the assessment of aquatic ecosystems are widely recognized and accepted by scientific community. The increasing value of water resource makes reservoirs important object of scientific and social interest, justifying the definition of proper tools for their assessment and monitoring. Among the available tools, the multimetric approach is one of the most popular. The observed results showed the validity of the approach also for artificial environments, expecting for its official incorporation in biomonitoring programs in Brazil.

Resumo Objetivo Neste trabalho são abordados alguns assuntos relacionados com a construção e adaptação do índice da assembleia de peixes em reservatório (IAPR). Método O passo a passo da construção do índice multimétrico adaptado para o sistema de reservatórios em cascata do Rio Tietê (SP, Brasil) é apresentado como caso de estudo e a comparação entre critério de pontuação discreto e continuo é discutida. Resultados As principais questões relacionadas com a adaptação de índices multimétricos para reservatórios são: i – questão de terminologia; ii- amostragem representativa da ictiofauna; iii – condições de referência. A construção do Índice da Assembleia de Peixes em Reservatório (IAPR) para o sistema de reservatórios em cascata do Rio Tietê é descrita em sete passos e o critério de pontuação continua mostrou aumentar a precisão do índice em relação à pontuação discreta, especialmente no caso de ambientes mais degradados. Conclusão O uso de critérios biológicos para avaliação das condições dos ecossistemas aquáticos é amplamente reconhecido e aceito pela comunidade cientifica. O crescente valor estratégico da água faz dos reservatórios importantes objetos de interesse cientifico e social, justificando a necessidade de definir ferramentas adequadas de avaliação e monitoramento. Entre as várias ferramentas disponíveis, a abordagem multimétrica é atualmente uma das mais populares. Os resultados observados mostram a validade da abordagem também para ambientes artificiais, permitindo auspiciar a sua incorporação em programas oficiais de biomonitoramento no Brasil.

No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2018-06-01 Most of the world’s fish fauna is suffering from different types of human impacts and new conservation tools are required. The fish diet analysis is a tool that has been used to evaluate degradation processes of aquatic environments, however, few long-term studies are performed by several reasons (e.g., lack of funding, opportunity). Our aim was to test whether the fish gut content from biological collections can be used for comparisons with current data and, consequently, be used as a tool for long-term environmental impact studies. We compared the gut content of fish preserved for fifteen years in a biological collection with recently sampled fish, considering the factors size of the specimen, preservation time and preservation form. We did not find differences in the gut content percentage of preservation between fish size classes and preservation time. However, we found differences between preservation form, in which the fish fixed in formalin kept the digestive content preserved while the fish preserved directly in alcohol did not. Thus, we encourage the use of fish gut content from biological collections fixed in formalin for long-term ecological studies. Our findings may help elucidate some long-term effects of human impacts on fish fauna. Thus, through a scientometric approach, we identified patterns in articles on fish feeding ecology. The database used for the survey was Thomson Reuters (ISI Web of Knowledge, apps.webofknowledge.com). In which, we observed a significant increase in the number of articles on feeding ecology of fish over time. Among the 1319 articles evaluated, the most frequent characteristics were: i) publication in the Journal of Fish Biology; ii) Brazilian and American researchers as the main authors; iii) three authors per article; iv) marine environment as more studied; v) population, the most discussed subject; vi) frequency of occurrence, the most used method for analysis of stomach and intestinal contents; vii) index of relative importance, the method most used to evaluate the importance of food items in the diet; viii) the use of the Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Levene statistical tests to evaluate the assumptions of normality and homogeneity of variances, respectively; ix) the use of the univariate analysis of variance hypotheses, the Kruskall-Wallis non-parametric univariate test, the multivariate analysis of permutational variance analysis, and the multivariate analysis of similarity tests; and x) the use of parametric ordering techniques cluster analysis and non-parametric non-metric multidimensional scaling. Diversos procedimentos laboratoriais e métodos estatísticos foram desenvolvidos para avaliar a dieta em peixes. Desse modo, por meio de uma análise cienciométrica identificamos tendências e padrões nos trabalhos sobre ecologia trófica de peixes, desde aspectos mais gerais até aspectos relacionados ao uso de ferramentas estatísticas. A base de dados utilizada para o levantamento foi a Thomson Reuters (ISI Web of Knowledge, apps.webofknowledge.com). Na qual verificamos aumento significativamente crescente na quantidade de artigos sobre ecologia trófica de peixes com o tempo. Dentre os 1319 artigos avaliados, as características mais frequentes foram: i) publicação na revista Journal of Fish Biology; ii) pesquisadores brasileiros e norte-americanos como autores principais; iii) três autores por trabalho; iv) ambiente marinho; v) população, o assunto mais abordado; vi) frequência de ocorrência, o método mais utilizado para análise do conteúdo estomacal e intestinal; vii) índice de importância relativa, método mais utilizado para avaliar a importância dos itens alimentares na dieta; viii) a utilização dos testes estatísticos Kolmogorov-Smirnov e Levene para avaliar os pressupostos de normalidade e homogeneidade de variâncias, respectivamente; ix) a utilização dos testes de hipóteses univariado paramétrico de análise de variância, do teste univaridado não-paramétrico de Kruskall-Wallis, do teste multivariado de análise de variância permutacional e do teste multivariado de análise de similaridades; e x) a utilização das técnicas de ordenação paramétrica análise de agrupamento e a não-paramétrica de escalonamento multidimensional não métrico.

[EN] This End of Degree Project is a study on solutions of a fisway. The main purpose is to get back the longitudinal continuity of the river which has been pulled off by humanity along history. For that reason, a study has been carried out where in which all possibilities have been discussed, from knocking down the weir to doing a fish lift. Finally, A conclusión has been reached, due to the sizes of the weir, and its function of getting out the water for the irrigation ditch, the best solution is a vertical slot fishway. Vertical slot fishways do not have physical obstacles that could discriminate the icthyofauna, it works with a wide range of flow rates and it has side-baffles, which manage the major water flow. In order to be dimensionated it has been used an online application, property of CEDEX in colaboration with A Coruña University, called ¿Fish Path¿. With this tool, a 2.2 meters wide, 12.9 meters length and 9.5% slope fishway have been obtained. The pools have 1.75 meters length and the notches width is 0.35 meters. The current project concludes with a brief constructive study, which includes detailed work units and a Gantt chart, and finally the estimated budget., [CA] El present Treball de Fi de Grau es un estudi de solucions per a una escala de peixos. La finalitat de la mateixa és recuperar la continuitat longitudinal del riu que antropològicament li va ser llevada al llarg dels anys. Per tant, s'ha realitzat un estudi al cual s'han comentat totes les opcions existents, començant per la opció de demolir l'assut, fins la col·locació d'un ascensor per a peixos. Finalment s'ha arrivat a la conclussió de que per dimensions de l'assut i per la seua funcionalitat com derivació per a la séquia colindant, la sol·lució més adequada és una escala de clavill vertical. Les escales de clavill vertical no disposen d'obstacles físics que poden discriminar a la ictiofauna, funcionen amb un ampli rang de caudals i disposa de deflectors que dirigixen el flux principal d'aigua. Per al seu dimensionament s'ha empleat un programa d'internet, propietat del CEDEX amb la col·laboració de la universitat d'A Corunya, que es denomina "Fish Path". Amb aquesta ferramenta s'ha obtés una escala d'ample 2.2 metres, llarg 12.9 metres i una pendent del 9.5%. Les piscines tenen un llarg de 1.75 metres i els clavills tenen un ample de 0.35 metres. La finalidad de la misma es recuperar la continuidad longitudinal del río que antropológicamente se le ha arrebatado a lo largo de los años. Para ello, se ha realizado un estudio en el cual se han tratado todas las opciones existentes, desde la demolición del azud, hasta la colocación de un ascensor para peces. Finalmente se ha llegado a la conclusión de que por dimensiones del azud y por su funcionalidad como derivación para las acequias colindantes, la solución más adecuada es una escala de hendidura vertical. Las escalas de hendidura vertical no disponen de obstáculos físicos que puedan discriminar a la ictiofauna, funcionan con un amplio rango de caudales y dispone de deflectores que dirigen el flujo principal del agua. Para su dimensionamiento se ha empleado un programa online, propiedad del CEDEX en colaboración con la universidad de A Coruña, llamado "Fish Path". Con esta herramienta se ha obtenido una escala de ancho 2.2 metros, largo 12.9 metros y una pendiente de 9.5%. Las piscinas tienen un largo de 1.75 metros y las hendiduras de paso disponen de un ancho de 0.35 metros. The reef fish communities are characterized by their high diversity, both in terms of numbers of species as in morphology and are important components of the biota of these environments, working in the structuring of communities through predation and competition processes. The structure of fish populations respond to various environmental factors (rainfall regime, environmental geomorphology, tidal dynamics, water transparency, quality and type of organic matter, current velocity and availability of food resources), these factors influence the spatial distribution and temporal species. Thus, this aimed to understand the timeline distribution of fish populations between the pools with or without connection to the open sea in Rocas Atoll, identifying the environmental characteristics with the greatest influence on the structure of fish populations. This is the only atoll in the South Atlantic Ocean and is located 266 km off the Brazilian coast, differs from other atolls because it is composed exclusively of algae encrusting coralline. In its plateau occur tidal pools, canals and sandy islands. 90 hours of diving were held in two pools with connection to the open sea and two disjoint through five linearly arranged transects the edge to the center of the pool, including the dry and rainy seasons. The temperature data were recorded, salinity, pH and dissolved oxygen from each pool much water in the dry season and the rainy. It was identified to the substrate composition of the pools through the photos using the methodology Coral Point Count with Excel Extensions program. 12,065 individuals, distributed in 20 families and 33 species were observed. The pools with connection with the sea showed the highest values of diversity and abundance and presented as the most abundant species Thalassoma noronhanum, Acanthurus chirurgus, Abudefduf saxatilis and Stegastes rocacensis, these species are equivalent to 87.3% of relative abundance these pools. The pools without connection with the sea showed a difference in the fish community in comparison to the pools with connection, being the most abundant species the A.saxatilis, A. chirurgus, T. noronhanum and Haemulon chrysargyreum. Composición taxonómica de peces integrantes de la fauna de acompañamiento de la pesca industrial de camarón del Golfo de California, México. La pesquería de camarón es la más importante en el Golfo de California y también la más problemática con respecto a las capturas incidentales en México. Dentro de la fauna de acompañamiento del camarón (FAC), el grupo de mayor abundancia son los peces. Se presenta listado sistemático de las especies de peces presentes en la FAC de la pesquería industrial de camarón en la costa oriental del Golfo de California. Durante 2004-2005 se implementó un sistema de observadores a bordo de la flota camaronera de Guaymas, Sonora, que recolectaron muestras de 20kg de la captura. Los peces representaron 70% de las capturas en número. Se recolectó un total de 51 101 ejemplares de peces, pertenecientes a dos clases, 20 órdenes, 65 familias, 127 géneros y 241 especies. El orden Perciformes fue el más diverso (31 familias, 78 géneros y 158 especies). Las familias mejor representadas en número de especies fueron: Sciaenidae y Paralichthyidae con 34 y 18 especies, Haemulidae y Carangidae aportaron 16 especies. Los géneros mejor representados fueron Symphurus con nueve y Diplectrum y Cynoscion con seis especies, otros géneros importantes fueron Larimus y Porichthys con cinco especies. El número de especies registrado es alto, comparado con la fauna demersal de otras áreas del Pacífico Mexicano. Esta alta riqueza de especies se puede atribuir a los sistemas de corrientes, surgencias, remolinos, topografía y batimetría únicas, que en conjunto originan un ecosistema dinámico con un amplio régimen térmico y una gran variedad de hábitats. Los resultados aqui presentados ponen de manifiesto que esta región del Golfo de California presenta una gran riqueza de especies, lo que abre diversas expectativas desde el punto de vista ecológico, pesquero, alimenticio y de manejo.Bycatch fish species from shrimp industrial fishery in the Gulf of California, Mexico. The shrimp fishery in the Gulf of California is one the most important activities of revenue and employment for communities. Nevertheless, this fishery has also created a large bycatch problem, principally fish. To asses this issue, a group of observers were placed on board the industrial shrimp fleet and evaluated the Eastern side of the Gulf during 2004 and 2005. Studies consisted on 20kg samples of the capture for each trawl, and made possible a systematic list of species for this geographic area. Fish represented 70% of the capture. A total of 51 101 fish were collected, belonging to two classes, 20 orders, 65 families, 127 genera, and 241 species. The order Perciformes was the most diverse with 31 families, 78 genera, and 158 species. The best represented families by number of species were: Sciaenidae (34) and Paralichthyidae (18) and Haemulidae and Carangidae (16 each). The best represented genera in number of species were Symphurus (nine) and Diplectrum and Cynoscion (six); other important genera were Larimus and Porichthys with five species each. The best represented species in number were Syacium ovale, Pseudupeneus grandisquamis, Haemulopsis nitidos, Diplectrum pacificum, Synodus scituliceps, Balistes polylepis, Eucinostomus currani, Eucinostomus gracilis, Porichthys analis, Chloroscombrus orqueta, Selene peruviana, Orthopristis reddingi, Etropus crossotus, Scorpaena sonorae and Urobatis halleri. The number of recorded species is notably high, compared with demersal fauna of other areas of the Mexican Pacific, such as Gulf of Tehuantepec (178), Nayarit, Michoacán, Guerrero (174, 120 and 166), Jalisco and Colima (161 species), and those of the Western coast of the Baja California Peninsula (220 species). The present work aims to analyse jointly four contiguous watersheds in the eastern part of the Serra da Mantiqueira with respect to the distribution of fish fauna and physical structure. The watersheds of Piracuama river, Ribeirão Grande, Buenos and Guaratinguetá are located in Pindamonhangaba, Campos do Jordão and Guaratinguetá municipalities, in the state of São Paulo. Data were collected between the years 2001 and 2010, with collections distributed throughout the seasons, including sites located on the slope and piedmont. The limnological parameters analysed were different between watersheds and habitat structure was different only for the slope segments between Ribeirão Grande and Buenos watersheds, and between Ribeirão Grande and Piracuama watersheds. Thirty-five species of fish were caught, with the highest species richness found in the Ribeirão Grande watershed (30 species), followed by the Piracuama (23 species) and Buenos and Guaratinguetá (21 species each). The most abundant species in both the segments (slope and piedmont) was Trichomycterus itatiayae. The highest degree of species dominance occurred in the Guaratinguetá watershed and in the segment slope, being T. itatiayae the dominant species. Species diversity was lower at the slope than the piedmont, indicating variability in species abundance. Again T. itatiayae was the most abundant species in both segments, showing to be a well adapted species to these streams systems by presenting, as well as other species, morphological adaptations to the stream environment. We evaluated the relationship between the young of year abundance of different species of migratory fish and interannual variations in the duration and delay of floods. Abundance data were obtained from quarterly sampling in six floodplain lakes and three rivers of the Upper Paraná River floodplain, from March 2000 to December 2011, using gill nets of different meshes. Young of year of the species Brycon orbignyanus, Hemisorubim. platyrhynchos, Leporinus elongatus, Leporinus macrocephalus, Leporinus obtusidens, Pseudoplatystoma corruscans, Pterodoras granulosus, Prochilodus lineatus, Salminus brasiliensis and Sorubim lima were considered and daily water levels were provided by the Agência Nacional das Águas. Scatterplots were constructed to identify the trend between abundance of young of year of each species and duration or delay of floods. In addition were performed multiple regression analyzes using duration and delay as predictor variables. The results revealed differences in the responses of the species for the flood attributes despite all of them show a positive trend regarding the duration and negative in relation to the delay of flood. The species B. orbignyanus, L. elongatus, L. macrocephalus, L. obtusidens, P. lineatus e S. lima had positive exponential relationship with the duration of flood, and the most of species exhibited negative exponencial relationship with delay, excepting S. brasiliensis with linear trend. Nevertheless, the delay was selected as a significant predictor variable with duration only for L. elongatus, L. obtusidens, P. corruscans and P. lineatus. For these species, floods late can result in failure or incipient in recruitment because these species probably migrate early, in order to adjusts its energy reserves and swimming. Therefore, any effort to preserve the migratory fish species needs to consider manipulation of discharge released from reservoirs upstream of the study area. It is urgent that reservoirs be operated in order to release water in quantity, duration and timing compatible with the viability of spawning and survival of early forms of development of large migratory fish. Avaliou-se a relação entre abundância de jovens do ano de diferentes espécies migradoras de longa distância e as variações interanuais na duração e início das cheias. Os dados de abundância foram obtidos em amostragens trimestrais em seis lagoas e na calha dos três rios da Planície de Inundação do Alto rio Paraná, no período de março de 2000 a dezembro de 2011, utilizando redes de espera de diferentes malhas. Os jovens do ano das espécies utilizadas foram Brycon orbignyanus, Hemisorubim platyrhynchos, Leporinus elongatus, Leporinus macrocephalus, Leporinus obtusidens, Pseudoplatystoma corruscans, Pterodoras granulosus, Prochilodus lineatus, Salminus brasiliensis e Sorubim lima e os níveis fluviométricos diários foram fornecidos pela Agência Nacional das Águas. Foram construídos gráficos de dispersão para verificar a tendência da relação entre a abundância dos juvenis de cada espécie e a duração e o atraso no início das cheias, bem como realizadas análises de regressão múltipla utilizando duração e atraso como variáveis preditoras. Houve diferenças nas respostas das espécies em relação aos atributos da cheia, apesar de todas apresentarem uma tendência positiva em relação à duração e negativa em relação ao atraso das cheias. As espécies B. orbignyanus, L. elongatus, L. macrocephalus, L. obtusidens, P. lineatus e S. lima apresentaram relações exponenciais positivas com a duração das cheias, e a maioria das espécies relações exponenciais negativas com o atraso, com exceção de S. brasiliensis que apresentou tendência linear. O atraso foi selecionado como variável preditora significativa juntamente com duração apenas para L. elongatus, L. obtusidens, P. corruscans e P. lineatus. Para estas espécies, cheias tardias podem resultar em falha ou incipiência no recrutamento, pois estas espécies provavelmente migram mais cedo, como forma de ajustar suas reservas energéticas e capacidades natatórias. Desse modo, qualquer esforço para preservar as espécies passa pela manipulação da vazão liberada pelos reservatórios a montante da área estudada. É imprescindível e de caráter urgente que sejam operados visando à liberação de água em quantidade, duração e época compatível com a viabilidade da desova e sobrevivência das formas iniciais de desenvolvimento dos grandes peixes migradores. 29 f

O presente trabalho apresenta os resultados de estudo sobre a ictiofauna (inventano, distribuição, aspectos ecológicos) da bacia do rio Trombetas, entre Oriximiná e o igarapé Caxipacoré, na área de influência da futura UHE Cachoeira Porteira. Foram realizadas seis expedições de coleta entre os anos de 1985 e 1988, sendo três no período de cheia e três na seca, em seis diferentes regiões. Os dados quantitativos foram obtidos utilizando-se uma bateria padronizada com onze malhadeiras, em pescarias de 24 horas. O esforço empregado com este aparelho por região e época foi de 1.544,97 m2/24 horas. Outros aparelhos e métodos também foram utilizados nas capturas de modo que o inventário fosse o mais completo possível. No total foram coletadas 342 espécies de peixes, pertencentes a 11 ordens e 43 famílias. Nas pescarias padronizadas foram capturados 10.806 exemplares, com 2.181.735 gramas, correspondendo a 228 espécies, de 9 ordens e 30 famílias. O rio Trombetas apresenta duas regiões distintas no seu curso, sendo a cachoeira Porteira, o ponto de divisão. A ictiofauna apresenta distribuição espacial relacionada com esta separação, cerca de um terço das espécies são exclusivas da região de jusante e outro terço ocorre apenas na região de montante. As cachoeiras e corredeiras são importantes barreiras à dispersão das espécies dentro do rio Trombetas, mas as condições ambientais gerais parecem também influenciar esta distribuição. Das espécies que tiveram a alimentaçãoanalisada a maioria dependia de alimentos de origem autóctone. As espécies piscívoras foram dominantes em biomassa na maioria das regiões e épocas. This work presents the results of a study on the fish fauna (inventory, distribution, ecological aspects) of the Rio Trombetas Basin, between Oriximiná and igarapé Caxipacoré, in the region where a future hydroelectric dam will be constructed. Collecting trips were made between 1985 and 1988, three in the dry season and three in the wet season, in six differents sites. The quantitative data were collected using a standardized set of eleven gillnets, with different mesh sizes, in 24 h fishing. The effort used with this set of nets was the same in all sites and periods (1,544.97 m2/24 h). Other fishing gear and techniques, such as castnets, long-line, piscicide, etc., were also used. 342 fish species belonging to 11 orders and 43 families were collected. In the standardized fisheries 10,806 specimens, with a total of 2,181,735 grams, corresponding lo 228 species, belonging to 9 orders and 30 families were collected. The Rio Trombetas shows two different regions in its course, Porteira waterfall being the dividing point. About one third of the species are found only in the region below this waterfall; another third are exclusively found on the region above. The waterfalls and rapids are important barriers to the dispertion of the fishes, but the environmental conditions, such as strong current, presence of rocks, etc, seems to be important as well. The majority of the species analised were feeding on autoctonous food. The piscivore species were dominant in biomass in most sites and periods.
