Dengue fever virus (DENV) is a mosquito-borne virus mostly spread by Aedes aegypti. According to the World Health Organization, DENV is found primarily in urban and semiurban areas in tropical and subtropical climates globally, putting approximately half of the world's population at risk, where about 100–400 million cases of the disease occur annually. In 2023 alone, there were over five million cases of dengue fever reported in more than 80 countries and territories worldwide. This is due to an ongoing outbreak of the disease potentiated by unanticipated spike in cases. It is crucial to understand DENV transmission patterns to manage public health effectively. Here, we provide an overview of the recent global outbreak of DENV and propose the integrated/coordinated health system (One Health) as a recommendation for effective prevention and control measure.

The desire to increase resource management efficacy in the construction sector is expanding because of measures to reduce costs, boost productivity, and minimize environmental impact. The Internet of Things (IoT) has the potential to alter resource management in the construction sector by delivering real-time data and insights that may assist decision-makers in optimizing resource allocation and usage. Incorporating Internet of Things (IoT) technology into the construction sector will be investigated in this study to discover how resource management is affected. The aim of the study is to identify the essential aspects that promote optimal IoT integration and to investigate how IoT may influence resource management. The relations between variables and their fundamental elements are investigated using structural equation modelling (SEM). In the context of building projects, the study analyses how IoT integration influences resource allocation and utilization, real-time monitoring, and proactive maintenance. The building sector in Malaysia provides concepts on IoT in resource management. Based on this research's outcomes, there is a distinct association between the utilization of IoT technology and effective resource management in the construction sector. IoT adoption is affected by a multiplicity of issues, including data analytics, data security and privacy, integration and interoperability, scalability, and flexibility. This study contributes to addressing considerable gaps in the corpus of information on IoT technology integration in the construction sector. It analyses how IoT may effect resource management, emphasizing how IoT technology may enhance the efficacy of human, mechanical, and material resources.

Implementing Internet of things (IoT) technology in the context of intelligent buildings and infrastructure development has garnered significant attention within the construction sector. Nonetheless, the implementation of IoT could be improved by assessing various barriers. The purpose of this study was to examine the obstacles related to the adaptation of IoT techniques within the construction sector, as well as the effects on the advancement of intelligent building and infrastructure systems. The study employed a mixed-method approach involving exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and structural equation modeling (SEM) to determine six types of barriers: knowledge, technical, standardization, creativity, complexity, and economics. The study revealed that the implementation of IoT for developing smart construction and infrastructure in the construction sector was significantly influenced by all six constructs. The results of this study offer significant ramifications for the field. The study underscores the necessity for heightened consciousness and instruction regarding the advantages of implementing IoT. The study posits that the technical barriers, including interoperability, modernization of legacy infrastructure, and coordination and collaboration difficulties, require attention from the industry. The study highlights the significance of establishing industry-wide standards and protocols for implementing IoT and regulatory and legal frameworks. Finally, the study underscores the necessity for augmented funding and financing options for IoT endeavors. Subsequent study endeavors may expand upon the present findings by delving into the barriers encountered by alternative sectors and nations and assessing the efficacy of the suggested measures in this investigation.

This comprehensive analysis examines the multifaceted impacts of population growth on public health in Nigeria. Drawing parallels with Omran’s epidemiological transition model (that focuses on the intricate means that patterns of health and illness are changing, as well as the relationships that exist between these patterns and the sociological, demographic, and economic factors that influence them) and referencing experiences from Chile and Ceylon. The study highlights a substantial rise in Nigeria’s population causing a double burden of infectious and non-communicable diseases, leading to higher morbidity, and mortality rates, increased healthcare costs, decreased productivity, and health inequalities, posing significant challenges to the country’s healthcare system. Furthermore, the correlation between low education levels and health outcomes underscores the importance of addressing systemic deficiencies in Nigeria’s educational sector. The article emphasizes the urgent need for strategic interventions to mitigate the adverse effects of population growth on health. Recommendations include revitalizing primary healthcare centers, fostering public-private partnerships to enhance healthcare accessibility, leveraging technological advancements like telemedicine, and promoting initiatives to improve nutrition and environmental sustainability. Moreover, prioritizing education on reproductive health and family planning emerges as a crucial strategy to manage population growth sustainably. In conclusion, the article underscores the imperative for collaborative efforts across sectors to navigate Nigeria’s evolving health landscape amidst increasing population growth. By implementing targeted policies and interventions, Nigeria can strive toward achieving universal health coverage, enhancing health outcomes, and ultimately raising the standard of living for its populace.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a fast-paced technological advancement in terms of its application to various fields of science and technology. In particular, AI has the potential to play various roles in veterinary clinical practice, enhancing the way veterinary care is delivered, improving outcomes for animals and ultimately humans. Also, in recent years, the emergence of AI has led to a new direction in biomedical research, especially in translational research with great potential, promising to revolutionize science. AI is applicable in antimicrobial resistance (AMR) research, cancer research, drug design and vaccine development, epidemiology, disease surveillance, and genomics. Here, we highlighted and discussed the potential impact of various aspects of AI in veterinary clinical practice and biomedical research, proposing this technology as a key tool for addressing pressing global health challenges across various domains.

Abstract Marburg virus disease (MVD) is a zoonotic viral hemorrhagic illness, caused by a negative sense, single-stranded RNA virus which has an envelope. The Marburg virus belongs to the genus Marburgvirus of the family Filoviridae. Due to the similarities in clinical signs and symptoms seen in other viral hemorrhagic diseases, arboviral infections, and malaria, MVD is difficult to diagnose. On February 8, 2023, Equatorial Guinea declared the first case of the MVD, which was confirmed by the Institute Pasteur Laboratory, Dakar, Senegal. MVD had a fatality rate of up to 88% during this outbreak. About eight individuals who had suspected infections, as well as the individuals with the confirmed infection, passed away. This letter addresses the current and previous Marburg virus outbreaks in African nations and whether or not they may result in an epidemic. It also discusses the significance of effective biosecurity and quarantine in limiting the spread of a highly contagious illness like MVD in African population.

Abstract Background and aims A new novel virus, Langya virus (LayV), was detected in China in August 2022, 3 years after the COVID-19 pandemic. LayV is similar to the previously discovered Mojiang henipavirus. Other zoonotic henipaviruses include the Hendra and Nipah viruses. The emergence of the zoonotic Langya virus is attributed to climate change and wildlife encroachment, as LayV is detected in shrews. Those who are infected in China showed various symptoms, but no deaths have been recorded yet. This review aims to shed light on the current state of Langya virus outbreak, its infection control efforts, and the remaining challenges that need to be addressed to curb the outbreak. Methods We utilized online publication databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar, and Scopus in writing this review article. Results A surveillance study on thirty-five febrile patients in Eastern China identified the Langya virus outbreak. The current efforts from the Chinese government and health authorities to reduce the transmission and spread of Langya virus such as isolation and characterization of LayV, challenges associated with the increase in cases of LayV, and trackable recommendations such as strengthening the healthcare system in China, sensitization of people about risks associated with Langya virus outbreaks, creating an intensive surveillance system network, etc. were discussed. Conclusion It is germane and pertinent that the Chinese government and health authorities continue to intensify efforts against Langya virus and address the challenges to effectively reduce transmission.

# Background Cholera and COVID-19 represent a dual burden on healthcare systems, especially in low-resource settings. Despite their significant impact, data on their co-occurrence and interaction remain unreliable. This is primarily due to limited and fragmented data availability, which affects our understanding of the relationship between these two diseases. This systematic review aims to address these gaps by summarizing the current state of knowledge and identifying specific data deficiencies. # Methods A comprehensive search was conducted on PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science. The search was limited to studies published from January 2020 to December 2023. Specific search terms included "cholera and COVID-19 co-infection," "cholera outbreaks during COVID-19," and "impact of COVID-19 on cholera." The Studies were selected based on predefined criteria, including relevance to the topic, quality of the data, and geographical scope. The Studies were selected based on predefined criteria, including relevance to the topic, quality of the data, and geographical scope. # Results A total of 18 studies were identified, encompassing a range of geographic locations and study designs. A meta-analysis revealed a strong positive correlation (95% confidence interval, CI=0.80, 0.99) between COVID-19 and cholera coinfection and comorbidity in Africa and Asia. Specifically, the correlation was observed between the frequency of cholera cases and the incidence of COVID-19, highlighting how the pandemic exacerbated cholera outbreaks in certain regions. # Conclusions The findings highlight the essential need for improved data collection and surveillance to better understand and manage the dual burden of cholera and COVID-19. The systematic review also highlights significant publication bias and data limitations, suggesting that future research should focus on addressing these gaps through enhanced data collection methods and rigorous analysis. Recommendations include developing targeted interventions to improve vaccination coverage and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) practices, alongside strategies to counteract misinformation about vaccines. **PROSPERO Registration ID: CRD42023485040**

Abstract Background Emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic created unexpected challenges for health care workers. The global and national supply chain system was disrupted, and affected infection, prevention and control (IPC) practices. This study aimed at documenting health workers knowledge, attitudes and practices (KAP) on IPC in Nigeria during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods The descriptive, mixed-methods cross-sectional study was conducted in Ebonyi, Ondo and Niger states in October 2020. A structured questionnaire was administered to the health workers, complemented by semi-structured interviews that were audio recorded, transcribed and analyzed in Atlas.ti. Quantitative data were entered into REDCap and cleaned, transformed and analyzed using descriptive statistics in SPSS version 25.0 Findings from the qualitative interviews were used to explain the trends observed from quantitative study. Despite the extraordinary and exceptional advances in drugs and vaccine development, sophisticated diagnostic facilities in health care settings, strategies in disease prevention and control, emerging and re-emerging infections are still the leading cause of death and suffering amongst human and animal populations with great impact on the world economy. Monkeypox is a viral disease with the potential to spread across the globe through international travel and movements of animals from endemic areas to susceptible populations. Monkeypox virus is an uncommon but endemic viral disease in Africa, but recent outbreaks occurred in Europe, the US, UK, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, and Italy. There is a need to refurbish the healthcare settings and get prepared for future outbreaks, especially in developing countries with poor healthcare delivery services. Scientists and researchers should also focus on developing vaccines, treatment, and preventive measures before the virus spread further.

Abstract Background and Aim Poliovirus is a global health issue that affects children in different parts of the world. Despite the efforts of national, international, and nongovernmental organizations to eradicate the disease, it is re‐emerging in Africa due to poor sanitation, vaccine hesitancy, new ways of transmission, and poor surveillance among others. Circulating vaccine‐derived poliovirus type 2 (cVDPV2) is a major step in eradicating poliovirus and preventing outbreaks in developing countries. Strengthening African healthcare systems, increasing surveillance, hygiene and sanitation, and proper mass vaccination to achieve herd immunity are required in the fight against polio disease. This paper discusses the outbreak of cVDPV2, public health challenges, and recommendations in Africa with a special emphasis on Nigeria. Methods We searched for articles documenting the incidence of cVDPV2 in Nigeria and other African countries on Pubmed, Google Scholar, and Scopus. Results A total of 68 distinct cVDPV2 genetic emergences were found across 34 nations between April 2016 to December 2020, and in Nigeria, three cVDPV2 emergences were found. Also, 1596 instances of acute flaccid paralysis linked to cVDPV2 outbreaks were reported in four areas of the World Health Organization where Africa contributed 962 cases out of 1596 cases. Available data indicate that Africa has the most cVDPV2 cases and is associated with various challenges like the unidentified virus source, poor sanitation system, and inability to achieve herd immunity of the cVDPV2 vaccine. Conclusion Collaborative efforts of stakeholders are crucial in combating infectious diseases, especially those transmitted via environments such as water and air, like poliovirus. Therefore, a collaboration between environmental health workers, veterinarians, community health workers, laboratory scientists, policymakers, and other professionals is required.

Abstract Background and Aims The outbreak of Tomato flu in India has affected the children making the parents tremble in worry and pain. The outbreak of this disease first occurred in India affecting young children below 5 years of age, thereby causing a threat to the country, neighboring countries, and the rest of the world—although no death is yet recorded. The aim of this research is to discuss the issues, challenges, and possible solutions associated with 2022 Tomato flu outbreaks in India. Results Tomato flu is caused by Coxsackievirus A16 as confirmed in the United Kingdom. The health authorities are currently monitoring the spread of the virus and trying to understand it to develop strategies to contain it. But they are left with some challenges relating to the health system, surveillance, and adherence to preventive protocols among others. Conclusion To prevent the spread of Tomato flu to other neighboring countries like China, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Afghanistan, Bhutan, Nepal, and the Maldives, the Indian Government must provide adequate public health control measures to contain the disease in children. Various recommendations have been given below.

Abstract The Marburg virus disease (MVD) outbreak in Ghana and the re‐emergence of other infectious diseases in Africa require a unified effort to fight these highly infectious health threats. Although no new cases have been reported after the three MVD confirmed cases, Ghana Health Service (GHS), and Health Authorities of neighbouring countries are on the alert to identify any new cases and deal with them at the earliest. Public health measures, however, inadequate, are in place in Ghana. Varied challenges remain in the fight against these outbreaks. All known public health measures must be brought to bear in the fight. African governments must resource the African Centre for Diseases Control and Prevention, in its efforts to augment the various country‐level health services in the fight against the threats. African governments, citizens, development partners, and foreign governments must commit to fighting these diseases before they turn into pandemics.

Background: Rhinosporidiosis is a rare chronic granulomatous disease caused by Rhinosporidium seeberi. It is endemic in some parts of Asia and commonly involves the mucous membrane of the nose presenting with nasal obstruction, a nasal mass, and epistaxis. The main treatment for rhinosporidiosis remains surgical excision, although it may recur after excision. Rhinosporidiosis is a condition that clinicians should keep in mind when managing patients with nasal masses even in non-endemic areas. Case presentation: A 52-year-old housewife presented with a 9-month history of left progressive nasal obstruction and progressive enlarging left nasal growth associated with recurrent nasal bleeding and nasal discharge. She had a history of rearing animals and bathing in ponds as well as engaging in farming activities. Examination revealed a fleshy polypoid mass attached to the nasal septum by pedicle and filling the whole of the left nasal cavity covered with a mucopurulent nasal discharge with associated contact bleeding. She had endoscopic resection under local anaesthesia with cauterization of the base of the mass with a silver nitrate pencil. A histopathological diagnosis of rhinosporidiosis was made. Conclusion: Rhinosporidiosis is rare in our environment, its presentation mimics that of nasal tumours. Therefore, it should be part of the differential diagnosis; both clinicians and pathologists should have it at the back of their minds when managing patients with nasal masses even in non-endemic areas.

Nonetheless, there is a necessity for empirical investigations that delve into the particular factors and constructs that contribute to this achievement. This research aims to address the existing gap in the literature by examining the favorable consequences of Industry 4.0 digitalization techniques in the context of sustainable construction management. The research utilized a mixed-methods methodology, integrating exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and structural equation modeling (SEM), to examine survey data obtained from the construction sector in China. The survey questionnaire comprised constructs that pertained to sustainability, technology, design, functional aspects, resource management, and managerial efficiency. The concept of sustainability has been identified as the most significant factor in shaping sustainable construction practices. The findings presented herein contribute to the theoretical comprehension of the determinants that impact the execution of Industry 4.0 digitalization methodologies within the construction sector. The interrelated constructs that have been identified provide valuable insights for practitioners and policymakers seeking to utilize Industry 4.0 practices to achieve sustainability, enhance technology adoption, optimize design processes, streamline functional aspects, improve resource utilization, and increase managerial efficiency. Implementing these strategies can enhance project success and ensure long-term sustainability in the construction industry. This research adds to the expanding pool of information regarding the factors that lead to success in Industry 4.0 digitization practices within sustainable construction management.

Construction is dangerous, making safety management essential. Robotics process automation (RPA) can improve construction project risk management. RPA is hindered by several factors. This study examined the primary technical, economic, legal, privacy, and resource obstacles to RPA adoption for tall building safety management. The pilot survey comprised 161 Malaysian tall building specialists, while the full questionnaire poll included 231 experts. EFA and SEM analyzed the data. Technology, economics, legislation, privacy, and resources prevented RPA from managing tall building safety. Theoretical and empirical breakthroughs in construction safety management and RPA deployment prompted this inquiry. This study illuminates the main obstacles to employing RPA for tall building safety management. The results show where to spend time and money to eliminate the obstacles. The study’s management implications may benefit construction safety managers, project managers, and company owners. The findings may help the building industry plan RPA safety management in tall projects and overcome hurdles. This study contributes to construction safety management and RPA deployment theory by identifying and analyzing the main barriers to using RPA for safety management in high-rise buildings. This research can help solve the problems preventing RPA from being used in construction project safety management.

This research aims to assess Landholder's satisfaction with the compulsory acquisition and compensation process in Bauchi to identify areas of weakness in the process and propose areas of improvement. The study adopted the quantitative approach and data collected through questionnaire survey from 327 landholders affected by the compulsory acquisition and compensation exercise by the Bauchi State Government. The data collected were subjected to descriptive with mean ranking, frequency distribution. The study revealed that landholders were very satisfied before the process of compulsory acquisition, during the process of mandatory purchase, they were also happy. Still, during the compensation process, they were very dissatisfied. It recommended that the Government should make the process of compensation more transparent.

This study aims to assess the Public infrastructure provision in Bauchi Metropolis, Nigeria, to propose areas of improvement. The study adopted the use of a quantitative approach and data were collected through a questionnaire survey from 382 house head holds proportionate selected from the target population in Bauchi metropolis. The data collected were subjected to descriptive with mean ranking, frequency distribution. The study revealed that communication facilities were the most provided facility provision, followed by market facilities and water facilities provision. Solid waste disposal facilities and fire protection services were the least facilities provided in the study area. It recommended that public infrastructural facilities provided in the area should be based on the resident’s preference and need.

The study adopted the use of a quantitative approach and data were collected through a questionnaire survey from 327 landholders affected by the compulsory acquisition and compensation exercise by the Bauchi State Government. The data collected were subjected to descriptive with mean ranking, frequency distribution. The study revealed that the respondents are aware of the process before the compulsory acquisition and during the process of compulsory acquisition they were also aware of. This means that the respondents agreed that they were aware of the process/procedures involved in compulsory land acquisition, laws, and procedures guiding compulsory land acquisition and compensation process. It recommended that Landholders should be made more aware of the process involved in compulsory acquisition and compensation not only at inception but up to the end of the exercise.

Abstract Background Nigeria has made remarkable progress in its current efforts to interrupt wild poliovirus transmission despite the re-emergence of wild poliovirus in 2016. The gains made in Nigeria have been achieved through concerted efforts by governments at all levels, traditional leaders, health workers, caregivers, and development partners. The efforts have involved an elaborate plan, coordination, and effective implementation of routine immunization services, supplemental immunization activities, and acute flaccid paralysis (AFP) surveillance. Methods We conducted the following activities to strengthen AFP surveillance in Kaduna state: a monetary reward for all AFP cases reported by health workers or community informants and verified as “true” AFP by a World Health Organization (WHO) cluster coordinator; training and sensitization of surveillance officers, clinicians, and community informants; recruitment of more personnel and expansion of the surveillance network; and the involvement of special populations (nomadic, hard-to-reach, and border communities) and caregivers in stool sample collection. The paired t test was used to evaluate the impact of the different initiatives implemented in Kaduna state to intensify AFP surveillance in 2016. Results There was increased annualized non-polio AFP rate (ANPAFPR) in 21 out of 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Kaduna state 6 months after implementation of different initiatives to intensify AFP surveillance. The AFP reported by the special population increased in 15 out of 23 LGAs. Statistical analyses of mean scores of ANPAFPR before and after the interventions using the paired t test revealed a significant difference in mean scores: mean = 19.7 (standard deviation (SD) = 16.1) per 100,000

There is a need for the communities to develop their health financing system, most especially those that were not covered by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). This will give the people an opportunity to finance their medical care which in turn would alleviate financial burden at the point of treatment. Therefore, this study is aimed to determine the level of awareness for Community Based Health Insurance Scheme (CBHIS) among communities and to measure the degree of willingness to pay for the scheme in Katsina, North-Western Nigeria. Semi structured interviewer-assisted questionnaires were used to collect information from the respondents. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS version 20.0. The results indicates that majority of the respondents attained tertiary level of education (68.3%) and 81.1% were employed. About 74.2% were earning more than the Nigerian minimum wage N18, 000 (≈$59). About 52.2% of the respondents were aware of the CBHIS. And 81% were willing to pay for premium while 62.2% will pay between N 1, 000 – 5, 000 (≈$3.3-$16.4). There was strong significant relationship between monthly income and knowledge of CBHIS (p = < 0.0001). However, gender and educational level were not significantly associated with the knowledge of CBHIS. Awareness about CBHIS was not sufficiently adequate but a significant number of the respondents were willing to pay for CBHIS after learning about the scheme. Factors such as level of education and income levels were found to have positive effect on willingness to pay. The performance efficiency for any kind of fabrics are depending on the natural and mechanical properties which fit on these actions, and all of these properties can be adapt according to the fabric constriction. Denim fabrics are changing according to the changing of fabric content like weft NE and weft materials also the weave structures especially on those fabrics produced by the double weave. And in this research we discussed the effect of double weave structures and weft martials type on the performance efficiency of denim fabrics , and the aim of that is to catch suitable weave structures and best material types to get the perfect performance efficiency, and we did that over producing -9- samples with three different weave types (sateen 4 at face and twill 2/2 at back – twill 3/1 at face and plain weave 1/1 at back – twill 2/2 at face and twill 3/1 at back) and we used three different types of weft materials (viscous at face and cotton at back – viscous at face and polyester with elastane spandex at back – cotton at face and cotton at back ) and to evaluate those samples we did some laboratory tests to measure natural and mechanical tests according to global test standard.

Ns2 is an open-source communications network simulator primarily used in research and teaching. Ns2 provides substantial support for simulation of TCP, routing, and multicast protocols over wired and wireless networks. Although Ns2 is a widely used powerful simulator, it lacks a way to measure networks that are used to assess reliability and performance metrics (e.g., the number of packets transferred from source to destination, delay in packets, packet loss, etc.) and it does not analyse the trace files it produces. The data obtained from the simulations are not straightforward to analyse. Ns2 is still unable to provide any data analysis statistics or graphics as requested. Moreover, the analysis of the Ns2 trace file using any software scripts requires further steps by a developer to do data processing and then produce graphical outputs. Lack of standardisation of tools means that results from different users may not be strictly comparable. There are alternative tools; however, most of them are not standalone applications, requiring some additional libraries. Also, they lack a user-friendly interface. This article presents the architecture and development considerations for the NsGTFA (Ns2 GUI Trace File Analyser) tool, which intends to simplify the management and enable the statistical analysis of trace files generated during network simulations. NsGTFA runs under Windows and has a friendly graphical user interface. This tool is a very fast standalone application implemented in VC++, taking as input an Ns2 trace file. It can output two-dimensional (2D) and 3D graphs (points, lines, and bar charts) or data sets, whatever the trace file format (Tagged, Old, or New). It is also possible to specify the output of standard network performance metrics. NsGTFA satisfies most user needs. There is no complex installation process, and no external libraries are needed.

The turbo machinery design has evolved rapidly in the last 50 years. The development in the design of any turbo machinery involves interdisciplinary process, namely stress analysis, vibration analysis, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics and the material selection. One of the major and common analyses used in the development of any mechanical part subjected to dynamic loading is the modal analysis. In this paper, the dynamic characteristics of an impeller of a centrifugal pump were studied. The dynamics characteristics studied were limited to the natural frequencies and the mode shapes. The impeller chosen for the study was a single-entry impeller with radial vanes. Finite element method (FEM) was used since it has proven to be an alternative approach to the experimental method for the vibrational behavior analysis of a component or a system. Modeling and simulation of the impeller have been carried out using ANSYS Bladegen and ANSYS Workbench software, respectively. The eigenvalues and the eigenvectors were observed, and they represent the frequencies and the corresponding mode shapes of the impeller, respectively. The results showed that the varying number of impeller blades and impeller blade thickness had minimal effect on frequencies. However, the change to the impeller disk thickness had significant effects on the natural frequency of the impeller.
