Our recently published [Weike et al., J. Chem. Phys. 159, 244119 (2023)] spin–orbit coupled diabatic potential energy model for HI is used in a thorough analysis of bound and quasi-bound states as well as elastic and inelastic processes in H + I collisions. The potential energy model, designed explicitly for studying scattering, accurately describes the various couplings in the system, which lead to complex dynamics. Ro-vibronic bound and quasi-bound states related to the adiabatic electronic ground state and an excited electronic state are analyzed. Calculations using the full 104 × 104 diabatic matrix model or a single adiabatic state are compared in order to investigate approximations in the latter. Elastic and inelastic scattering cross sections as well as thermal rates between the ground and first excited fine structure levels of iodine are computed for collision energies up to 12 500 cm−1. Resonances related to the quasi-bound states are analyzed in terms of their energy, width, lifetime, and decay probabilities. The effect of different resonances on the thermal rates is discussed. Resonances between 30 000 and 40 000 cm−1 are also studied for selected values of the total angular momentum, in particular their decay probabilities into different final states of iodine and hence their potential effect on branching ratios in photodissociation of HI. Mollusc and crustacean consumption in the first 1000 d may improve maternal and child health by providing essential nutrients. However, in some contexts, molluscs and crustaceans have been associated with allergies and environmental contamination, potentially leading to adverse health and development outcomes. It is unclear whether the health benefits of consuming molluscs and crustaceans, collectively classified as shellfish in nutrition, are outweighed by the potential risks to pregnant women and children. We conducted a scoping review (PROSPERO: CRD42022320454) in PubMed, Scopus and EBSCO Global Health of articles published between January 2000 and March 2022 that assessed shellfish consumption during pregnancy, lactation or childhood (0-2 years) in relation to maternal health, child health or child development. A total of forty-six articles were included in this review. Overall, shellfish consumption was associated with higher biomarkers of environmental contaminants, with mercury being the most studied and having the strongest evidence base. The limited research on nutritional biomarker status shows an association between shellfish consumption and iodine status. Preterm birth was not associated with shellfish consumption, but newborn anthropometry showed mixed results, with several studies reporting lower birth weight with higher shellfish consumption. The few studies that examined child development and maternal health outcomes reported no significant associations. This review revealed trade-off health risks and benefits with inclusion of molluscs and crustaceans in the dietary patterns of mothers and young children. More research is needed to understand how these aquatic animal-source foods may be safely consumed and leveraged for improving human nutrition.

INTRODUCTION: Micronutrient deficiencies are prevalent in West Africa, particularly among women of reproductive age (WRA) and young children. Bouillon is a promising food fortification vehicle due to its widespread consumption. This study aims to evaluate the impact of multiple micronutrient-fortified bouillon cubes, compared to control bouillon cubes (fortified with iodine only), on micronutrient status and hemoglobin concentrations among lactating and non-lactating WRA and young children in northern Ghana. METHODS: This randomized, controlled doubly-masked trial will be conducted in the Kumbungu and Tolon districts in the Northern Region of Ghana, where prior data indicate multiple micronutrient deficiencies are common. Participants will be: 1) non-pregnant non-lactating WRA (15-49 y), 2) children 2-5 y, and 3) non-pregnant lactating women 4-18 months postpartum. Eligible participants will be randomly assigned to receive household rations of one of two types of bouillon cubes: 1) a multiple micronutrient-fortified bouillon cube containing vitamin A, folic acid, vitamin B12, iron, zinc, and iodine, or 2) a control cube containing iodine only. Each participants household will receive a ration of bouillon cubes every 2 weeks, and households will be advised to prepare meals as usual, using the study-provided cubes. The trial duration will be 9 months for non-pregnant non-lactating WRA and children, and 3 months for lactating women. The primary outcomes will be changes in biomarkers of micronutrient status and hemoglobin among WRA and children and milk micronutrient concentrations among lactating women. Secondary outcomes will include change in prevalence of micronutrient deficiency and anemia; dietary intake of bouillon and micronutrients; inflammation, malaria, and morbidity symptoms; and child growth and development. DISCUSSION: Evidence from this study will inform discussions about bouillon fortification in Ghana and West Africa. A nanocomposite with a unique satellite dish-like structure, termed arsenic (III) oxide iodide (AsO2I)/polypyrrole (Ppy) intercalated with iodide ions (AsO2I/Ppy-I), has been meticulously developed via a two-step process. It features natural satellite dish-like nanostructures, potentially serving as nanoresonators for efficient single photon absorption. With a bandgap of 2.8 eV, the AsO2I/Ppy-I nanocomposite efficiently absorbs photons in the UV and visible light regions, making it suitable for single photon detection. Impressive performance is seen in photocurrent sensitivity measurements, recording values of 0.017 mA.cm−2 under white light and 0.009 mA.cm−2 under monochromatic light at 340 nm. Additionally, it exhibits high responsivity and detectivity, with peak values at wavelengths of 340 nm and 440 nm associated with the diameter of the Satellite dish nanostructure. Cost-effectiveness and simple synthesis methods make it attractive for industrial applications, while its unique structural characteristics and enhanced optical properties position it as a valuable asset in optoelectronic technologies. It holds promise as a leading material in advanced quantum technology, marking a significant leap forward in optoelectronic technologies, with potential applications in quantum cryptography, communication, and computing. Acyl iodides are expected to be excellent acylating agents due to the low bond dissociation energy of the carbon–iodine bond and the high capability of iodine as a leaving group. Unfortunately, the preparative methods for acyl iodides directly from carboxylic acids are rather limited. In this work, we found that a novel binary system combining I2 and diphenylphosphine oxide (Ph2P(O)H) provides a simple method for the preparation of acyl iodides from carboxylic acids. Furthermore, the subsequent one‐pot reaction with appropriate nucleophiles, such as amines, alcohols, and thiols, afforded the corresponding amides, esters, and thioesters, respectively, in good to excellent yields. Cutaneous reactions to povidone (PVP)‐iodine are widely reported; however, distinction between allergic and irritant reactions can be challenging. Free iodine is responsible for irritant reactions and is released when PVP‐iodine is in a liquid state. The aim of this study was to review the clinical presentation and results of patch testing in patients with PVP‐iodine contact dermatitis. A systematic review was conducted by searching Pubmed, MEDLINE, and Google Scholar databases for reports of contact dermatitis secondary to PVP‐iodine. Data were collated including study design, patient age and gender identity, iodine exposure, skin biopsy findings, and patch test methodology and results. The search revealed 187 reports with 38 eligible studies; 30 case reports/case series and 8 retrospective cohort studies. Overall, there were 223 patients with PVP‐iodine contact dermatitis. The commonest reaction was irritant contact dermatitis (51%), followed by allergic contact dermatitis (40%) and contact dermatitis not further specified (9%). Irritant reactions were characterised by burn‐like morphology and, when due to surgical skin disinfectant, were often distant from the surgical incision site. Patch testing was most often performed with a 10% PVP‐iodine aqueous solution; however, irritant reactions in controls occur. Various testing methods including iodine in petrolatum, ethanol, dried powder, and open application testing were described. Most reactions to PVP‐iodine are irritant and patch testing using a closed‐chamber method yields inconsistent results due to risk of irritation from free iodine release over the 2‐day occlusion time. Pinnipeds have long, sensitive, moveable mystacial vibrissae. In other mammals, intrinsic muscles contribute to protracting the vibrissae. However, the mystacial muscles of pinnipeds have not yet been systematically described. Using traditional histological methods provides us with two‐dimensional muscle images, but having the ability to visualise these structures in three dimensions would allow for a more comprehensive understanding of pinniped vibrissal anatomy, especially given the challenges posed by their large and extremely curved mystacial pad. We predicted that harbour seals would have large, regular intrinsic muscles due to their well‐organised, moveable vibrissae. We adopted diffusible iodine contrast‐enhanced computer tomography (diceCT) to describe, for the first time, the three‐dimensional architecture of the mystacial vibrissal muscles found in harbour seals. Our observations show that their vibrissae are organised into grids within the mystacial pad. We identified both sling‐shaped and oblique intrinsic muscles that connect one vibrissae to the next in the same row. We also identified extrinsic muscles, including the m. nasolabialis, m. maxillolabialis, m. levator nasolabialis and m. orbicularis oris. Contrary to our prediction, the intrinsic muscles were not very large, although they were regularly distributed throughout the pad. Rather, the extrinsic muscles, particularly the m. nasolabialis and m. maxillolabialis were large, deep and well‐defined, running throughout the length of the mystacial pad. Therefore, we suggest that these extrinsic muscles, the m. nasolabialis and m. maxillolabialis, are responsible for driving vibrissal protraction underwater. These findings demonstrate the importance of three‐dimensional visualisation techniques in advancing our understanding of mystacial anatomy and function in pinnipeds. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Cu‐catalyzed Ullmann‐Goldberg cross‐coupling between aryl iodides and oxamates is shown to afford the corresponding N‐aryloxamates with yields ranging from moderate to excellent, when the oxamate precursor incorporates a bulky tertiary alkyl group effectively preventing product degradation under the strongly basic reaction conditions. The final oxamic acids are then generated through the acid hydrolysis of the oxamate in high yields. These acids were then converted into urethanes using PIDA under thermal conditions or a visible‐light Fe‐LMCT process. While electron‐deficient N‐aryl oxamic acids provide urethanes with high efficiencies, electron‐rich counterparts led to diminished yields due to aryl group over‐oxidation induced by PIDA. Background: Fluorine 18-labelled tetrafluoroborate ([18F]TFB) is a substrate for the sodium/iodide symporter. In thyroid cancer, [18F]TFB-PET/CT may be an alternative to iodine imaging to evaluate the extent of disease, eligibility for radioiodine treatment, and success of redifferentiation therapies. We report the results of a pilot study to determine tumor uptake of [18F]TFB and compare its properties to [124I]IodinePET/CT in patients with metastatic thyroid cancer. Methods: Five patients were included in a prospective study. All patients received PET/CT 1 h after injection of 356 ± 12 MBq [18F]TFB and were given 230 ± 9 MBq [124I]Iodine orally on the same day, followed by PET/CT after 48 h. Before redifferentiation therapy, patients underwent an additional baseline [124I]Iodine PET/CT. Cases were analyzed by two board-certified specialists. Detection rates and Spearman correlation for [18F]TFB and [124I]Iodine were calculated. Results: Three patients had poorly differentiated thyroid cancer and received trametinib in a redifferentiation trial. Two patients had papillary thyroid cancer and did not receive redifferentiation therapy. Of the 33 lesions seen before/without redifferentiation therapy, 19 (58%) were visible on [18F]TFB and 30 (91%) on [124I]Iodine imaging. In the patients who underwent redifferentiation therapy, 48 lesions were newly seen on [124I]Iodine PET/CT with a median SUVmax of 3.3 (range, 0.4–285.0). All of these lesions were [18F]TFB-negative. Conclusion: [18F]TFB failed to predict radioactive iodine uptake in patients with poorly differentiated thyroid cancer who underwent redifferentiation therapy with trametinib. It is unclear whether such discrepancies may also occur in other redifferentiation therapies or may even be encountered in redifferentiation-naïve thyroid cancer. Background: Intraoperative irrigation with diluted povidone iodine (PI) can be used to reduce the incidence of infection-related complications in arthroplasty surgeries. Since PI is associated with many interventions, especially skin antisepsis, its systemic effects are being studied. The aim of our study is to evaluate the systemic effects of PI, which we use as an irrigation solution, by means of urine iodine and thyroid function tests. Methods: In this case-control study, 96 patients who underwent knee or hip arthroplasty were included and divided into two groups according to the irrigation solution. In the first group, PI was added to the standard irrigation. The second group was considered as the control group and only standard irrigation was applied. Urine iodine, thyroid stimulating hormone, free T3 and free T4 values were compared in the preoperative and postoperative periods of these two groups. In this way, the effect of absorbed iodine on thyroid functions was investigated. Results: In the diluted PI group, urinary iodine levels were measured at maximum levels (450 µg/L) in the early postoperative period in most of the patients. The statistically significant difference in urinary iodine levels between the PI group and the control group, which started in the early postoperative period, continued until the last follow-up on the 14th postoperative day. In terms of thyroid functions, the observed differences were not statistically significant. Conclusion: Studies to reduce periprosthetic infection show that PI can be preferred for irrigation before the closure of the joint area in total joint arthroplasty. Although the success of this treatment in periprosthetic infection has been investigated, its systemic examination has not been demonstrated. It was determined that PI treatment, which was seen to decrease in the systemic circulation within 14 days, did not show a statistically significant change in terms of thyroid functions when used at the determined concentration and duration. Hypervalent iodine reagents are versatile and readily accessible reagents that have been extensively applied in contemporary synthesis in modern organic chemistry. Among them, iodonitrene (ArI=NR), is a powerful reactive species, widely used for a single‐nitrogen‐atom insertion reaction, and skeletal editing to construct N‐heterocycles. Skeletal editing with reactive iodonitrene components has recently emerged as an exciting approach in modern chemical transformation. These reagents have been extensively used to produce biologically relevant heterocycles and functionalized molecular architectures. Recently, the insertion of a nitrogen‐atom into hydrocarbons to generate N‐heterocyclic compounds using hypervalent iodine reagents has been a significant focus in the field of molecular editing reactions. In this review, we discuss the rapidly emerging field of nitrene insertion, including skeletal editing and nitrogen insertion, using hypervalent iodine reagents to access nitrogen‐containing heterocycles, and the current mechanistic understanding of these processes. Sulfonium, selenonium, telluronium triflates, as well as chloronium, bromonium, and iodonium triflates have been examined in the model Schiff condensation as chalcogen‐ and halogen bond donating organocatalysts, respectively. The kinetic data indicated that the catalytic effect of the telluronium salt is provided via the decrease of enthalpy of activation of the reaction, whereas the catalytic effect of the iodonium salt – unexpectedly – is caused by the decrease of the value of the entropy of activation. In addition, it was experimentally shown that the catalytic activity of sulfonium and selenonium salts is significantly lower than that of chloronium and bromonium salts, but the latter pair of species is significantly less stable under the reaction conditions than the former pair. Described herein is a novel visible-light-promoted three-component radical iodo-alkylative cyclization of alkynes using iodoform as a bifunctional iodine atom source. Visible-light irradiation of a polar–polar interaction complex of iodoform with malonate enables the cooperative hydrogen atom transfer process to generate alkyl radical and trigger a cascade reaction sequence. Applications of computed tomography (CT) in arthritis imaging have rapidly expanded in recent years due to ongoing technical developments. Dual-energy CT (DECT) has become indispensable in clinical practice, particularly for diagnosing gouty arthritis and assessing bony structural changes. Technological innovations such as low-dose CT and state-of-the-art reconstruction algorithms reduce radiation exposure while maintaining image quality and short acquisition times. This review explores the growing role of CT in arthritis imaging. Recent innovations have extended DECT's utility beyond gout diagnosis to the detection of inflammatory changes in various arthritic conditions. Postprocessing techniques such as the generation of subtraction images and iodine maps provide valuable insights into tissue perfusion and inflammatory activity, crucial for arthritis management. DECT can distinguish calcium from uric acid crystals, facilitating the differential diagnosis of various crystal arthropathies in a variety of clinical settings. This ability is particularly valuable in distinguishing between different clinical conditions in patients with inflammatory joint changes within a single imaging examination. Moreover, the advent of four-dimensional CT promises a better assessment of dynamic joint instabilities and ligament injuries, especially in the wrist. Overall, DECT offers a comprehensive approach to arthritis imaging, from the detection of structural changes to the assessment of active inflammation in joints and tendons. Continuous advances in CT technology, including photon-counting CT, hold promise for further improving diagnostic accuracy and expanding the role of CT in arthritis imaging and therapy monitoring. The problem of diffuse goiter has attracted the attention of many researchers in recent years. The main reason for the formation of endemic goiter is iodine deficiency in the environment. Epidemiological studies conducted in recent years have shown that almost all regions of Kazakhstan are regions of endemic goiter with natural iodine deficiency. Some of them are characterized by an increase in the severity of endemic goiter. The reasons contributing to the progression of goiter endemicity are the cessation of iodine prophylaxis, the deterioration of the environmental situation and the social situation of a significant part of the population. The purpose of this work was to study the features of thyroid status in children with diffuse goiter. Material and methods There were 38 children under our supervision, 20 (main group) had diffuse (endemic) goiter (5 boys and 15 girls), 18 children (control group) - 5 boys and 13 girls, children in the control group were considered healthy. Results As a result of comparing indicators of the functional state of the pituitary-thyroid system in patients with diffuse goiter, a relatively increased level of thyroid-stimulating hormone is noted, which indicates the negative impact of diffuse goiter on the thyroid status of children. Conclusions As a result of the manifestation of diffuse goiter in children, metabolic disorders of the pituitary-thyroid system occur. Background: With the implementation of the universal salt iodization, the iodine nutrition for children and adults has been appropriate, but pregnant women are still at risk of iodine deficiency. It is of great public health significance to explore the iodine status and knowledge, and influence factors and the appropriate health education methods among pregnant and lactating women. Methods: From January 2022 to December 2023, at least 50 pregnant women and 50 lactating women were randomly selected from the resident population annually in 16 districts of Tianjin, North China. A total of 1671 pregnant women and 1658 lactating women were recruited. All participants' households salt and random urine samples were collected. A questionnaire was conducted to collect data on iodine related knowledge and behaviors as well as needs of health education from all participants. Logistic regression models were constructed to analyze the factors affecting the iodine related knowledge level. We used the Rasch model and the quadrantal graph to analyze the participants' knowledge level on different iodine-related questions and their needs for health education. Results: The median urine iodine concentration (UIC) of pregnant and lactating women in Tianjin were 152.40 μg/L and 124.60 μg/L. In some districts, the median UIC of pregnant and lactating women below the appropriate range. The iodized salt coverage rate of pregnant and lactating women in Tianjin was 76.12% and 77.40%, respectively. In pregnant and lactating women who did not actively supplement with iodine, the median UIC in those who consumed non-iodized salt were significantly lower than that in those who consumed iodized salt (139.26 μg/L and 154.40 μg/L, P = 0.044; 94.60 μg/L and 123.80 μg/L, P < 0.001). Compared with the low knowledge score group, pregnant women in the high knowledge score group had a higher proportion of iodized salt consumption (71.25% and 78.05%, P = 0.003), and pregnant and lactating women in the high knowledge score group had a higher proportion of actively supplement iodine (44.61% and 55.34%, P < 0.001; 39.26% and 49.78%, P < 0.001). Health education may be the main factor affecting the iodine related knowledge scores for pregnant and lactating women, with adjusted odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) of 2.89 (2.30, 3.62) and 2.46 (1.97, 3.07), respectively. Pregnant and lactating women are most expected to acquire knowledge through healthcare professionals (72.11%) and wechat/website (74.91%), respectively. Conclusions: Pregnant and lactating women in some areas of Tianjin are at risk of iodine deficiency. Iodized salt consumption is an important way to ensure iodine nutrition of the population, and the lack of iodine related knowledge is an important factor affecting the consumption of iodized salt. Purpose: Whether youth who follow plant-based diets in Nordic countries meet their dietary needs for micronutrients remains unclear. This study aims to evaluate micronutrient intake and status in Norwegian youth following vegan, lacto-ovo-vegetarian, pescatarian, flexitarian and omnivore diets. Methods: Cross-sectional design, with healthy 16-to-24-year-olds (n = 165). Participants were asked to complete a questionnaire and four 24-hour dietary recalls. Dried blood spots (DBS) and spot-urine samples were collected for analysis of methyl malonic acid (MMA) (n = 65), haemoglobin (Hb) (n = 164) and urinary iodine concentration (UIC) (n = 163). Results: Vegans reported highest habitual supplement usage of multivitamin (58%), B12 (90%) and macroalgae consumption (32%), while flexitarians reported highest habitual usage of omega-3 supplements (56%). For daily supplement usage, vegans reported highest use of multivitamins (42%), B12 (79%), iodine (37%) and iron (63%). Increased risk of inadequate intake (energy-adjusted) were found for vitamin D (60% within lacto-ovo-vegetarians), selenium (70% within lacto-ovo-vegetarians, 65% within omnivores), and iodine (63% within vegans). Median MMA levels suggest low risk of insufficient B12 status across all groups (MMA 0.04‒0.37µmol/l) and 2% had MMA levels indicating possible B12 deficiency and 8% had elevated levels. Median Hb levels indicated low risk of anemia across all groups (≥ 12.0 females, ≥ 13.0 g/dl males), though 7% had Hb values indicating risk of mild anemia and 4% risk of moderate anemia. The median UIC indicates mild iodine deficiency in all groups (UIC < 100 µg/l), except vegans, who were moderately iodine deficient (UIC < 50 µg/l). Conclusions: Our study indicated that the participating youth had low risk of inadequate intake of most micronutrients, partly due to high supplement usage. However, for iodine, vitamin D, and selenium higher risk of inadequate intake was found. UIC corroborated the low iodine intake among vegans. Thus, we suggest iodine status of youth in Norway should be monitored, especially among young fertile women who omits dietary iodine sources, until a mandatory iodine fortification program is implemented. Furthermore, we suggest that food education on how to secure sufficient nutrients from food in general should be provided to the Norwegian youth population, especially how to secure adequate intake of vitamin D, selenium and iodine. Multi‐energy computed tomography (MECT) offers the opportunity for advanced visualization, detection, and quantification of select elements (e.g., iodine) or materials (e.g., fat) beyond the capability of standard single‐energy computed tomography (CT). However, the use of MECT requires careful consideration as substantially different hardware and software approaches have been used by manufacturers, including different sets of user‐selected or hidden parameters that affect the performance and radiation dose of MECT. Another important consideration when designing MECT protocols is appreciation of the specific tasks being performed; for instance, differentiating between two different materials or quantifying a specific element. For a given task, it is imperative to consider both the radiation dose and task‐specific image quality requirements. Development of a quality control (QC) program is essential to ensure the accuracy and reproducibility of these MECT applications. Although standard QC procedures have been well established for conventional single‐energy CT, the substantial differences between single‐energy CT and MECT in terms of system implementations, imaging protocols, and clinical tasks warrant QC tests specific to MECT. This task group was therefore charged with developing a systematic QC program designed to meet the needs of MECT applications. In this report, we review the various MECT approaches that are commercially available, including information about hardware implementation, MECT image types, image reconstruction, and postprocessing techniques that are unique to MECT. We address the requirements for MECT phantoms, review representative commercial MECT phantoms, and offer guidance regarding homemade MECT phantoms. We discuss the development of MECT protocols, which must be designed carefully with proper consideration of MECT technology, imaging task, and radiation dose. We then outline specific recommended QC tests in terms of general image quality, radiation dose, differentiation and quantification tasks, and diagnostic and therapeutic applications. Cationic porous organic polymers have a unique advantage in removing radioactive iodine from the aqueous phase because iodine molecules exist mainly in the form of iodine-containing anions. However, halogen anions will inevitably be released into water during the ion-exchange process. Herein, we reported a novel and easy-to-construct zwitterionic hypercrosslinked polymer (7AIn-PiP)-containing cationic pyridinium-type group, uncharged pyridine-type group, pyrrole-type group, and even an electron-rich phenyl group, which in synergy effectively removed 94.2% (456 nm) of I2 from saturated I2 aqueous solution within 30 min, surpassing many reported iodine adsorbents. Moreover, an I2 adsorption efficiency of ~95% can still be achieved after three cyclic evaluations, indicating a good recycling performance. More importantly, a unique dual 1,3-dipole was obtained and characterized by 1H/13C NMR, HRMS, and FTIR, correlating with the structure of 7AIn-PiP. In addition, the analysis of adsorption kinetics and the characterization of I2@7AIn-PiP indicate that the multiple binding sites simultaneously contribute to the high affinity towards iodine species by both physisorption and chemisorption. Furthermore, an interesting phenomenon of inducing the formation of HIO2 in unsaturated I2 aqueous solution was discovered and explained. Filter use in experiments is often unspecified, potentially affecting results. In this study, six different filters were investigated for technetium and iodine. Technetium was evaluated at pH 2.5, 6, and 11 for two concentrations. Three oxidation states of iodine (iodide, molecular iodine, and iodate) were evaluated at pH 7 for two concentration levels. The results obtained were analyzed using a t-test to determine if it was statistically different than an unfiltered sample. The experimental results are combined with a literature review highlighting the inconsistency of filter reporting in manuscripts, as well as not accounting for analyte loss on filters used. For a better understanding of living tissues and materials, it is essential to study the intricate spatial relationship between cells and their surrounding tissue on the nanoscale, with a need for 3D, high‐resolution imaging techniques. In the case of bone, focused ion beam‐scanning electron microscopy (FIB‐SEM) operated in the backscattered electron (BSE) mode proves to be a suitable method to image mineralized areas with a nominal resolution of 5 nm. However, as clinically relevant samples are often resin‐embedded, the lack of atomic number (Z) contrast makes it difficult to distinguish the embedding material from unmineralized parts of the tissue, such as osteoid, in BSE images. Staining embedded samples with iodine vapor has been shown to be effective in revealing osteoid microstructure by 2D BSE imaging. Based on this idea, an iodine (Z = 53) staining protocol is developed for 3D imaging with FIB‐SEM, investigating how the amount of iodine and exposure time influences the imaging outcome. Bone samples stained with this protocol also remain compatible with confocal laser scanning microscopy to visualize the lacunocanalicular network. In this work, we report the synthesis of a series of new 4H‐1,3,5‐oxadiazine derivatives. The method of their production is based on the dehydrosulfurization reaction of N‐(2,2,2‐trichloro‐1‐(3‐R‐thioureido)ethyl)carboxamides under the action of a mixture of iodine and triethylamine in DMF. A possible reaction mechanism has been proposed. The target products have been obtained in 58%–75% yield. The structure of the obtained compounds has been confirmed by 1H, 13C NMR, IR spectroscopy data, and x‐ray diffraction analysis carried out for 6‐(tert‐butyl)‐N‐phenyl‐4‐(trichloromethyl)‐4H‐1,3,5‐oxadiazin‐2‐amine. Modular synthesis can combine different functional modules to flexibly regulate comprehensive properties and study the diversity of compounds. This study established a modular bicyclic synthesis strategy of combining polynitro energetic module with iodine‐containing biocidal module. Compounds 1–6 with high iodine content (48.72–69.56 %) and high thermal stability (Td: 172–304 °C) were synthesized and exhaustively identified. By modular synthesis, the detonation properties and gas‐production of 3–6 improved greatly expanding their biocidal efficacy and maintained the iodine atomic utilization of iodine‐containing module. Notably, 4,5‐diiodo‐3,4',5'‐trinitro‐1,3'‐bipyrazole (5) and 3,5‐diiodo‐4,4',5'‐trinitro‐1,3'‐bipyrazole (6) exhibit high detonation velocities (D: 5903 m s−1, 5769 m s−1, respectively) and highest gas production of 212.85 L mol−1 and 217.66 L mol−1 after decomposition. This study diversifies polyiodio‐nitro compounds, and also inspire the implementation of similar synthesis strategies to provide family‐level synthetic solutions to energetic biocidal materials. The post‐assembly modification (PAM) of metallosupramolecular assemblies plays an important role in obtaining diverse architectures and expanding new functions. In this work, the trinuclear organometallic assemblies [Ag3(L)2](PF6)3 (L = 1a–c) were generated from the corresponding internal olefin‐bridged trisimidazolium, trisbenzoimidazolium, and trisimidazo[1,5‐ɑ]pyridinium salts H3‐L(PF6)3 (L = 1a–c) with Ag2O through coordination‐driven self‐assembly. Subsequently, complexes [Ag3(L)2](PF6)3 (L = 1a, 1b) were converted into corresponding gold(I) complexes [AuI3(L)2](PF6)3 (L = 1a, 1b) by transmetalation reaction. The oxidation addition of the gold(I) complexes [AuI3(L)2](PF6)3 (L = 1a, 1b) were carried out using iodine as an oxidant to give gold(III) complexes [AuIII3(L)2I6](PF6)3 (L = 1a, 1b). Irradiation of complexes [Ag3(L)2](PF6)3 (L = 1a, 1b) in solution leaded to structural transform into the corresponding cyclobutane‐bridged complexes [Ag3(L′)](PF6)3 (L′ = 2a, 2b) with quantitative yields. The current study aims to develop a new adsorbent material using oak crown and explore its effectiveness in removing I2 ions through a series of batch experiments. ACOW was characterised by zero charge (pHpzc) and FTIR spectroscopy. The impact of the initial I2 concentration (20-100 mg/L), temperature (25-55 °C), pH (2-14), adsorbent dosage (2-10 g/L), Stirring speed (100-900 rpm), particle size (100-2000μm) and contact time (0-30 min) on I2 adsorption was examined. The adsorption kinetic obeys the pseudo-second order model with a determination coefficient (R2) equal to 0.999. Adsorption follows the Langmuir equation well, with the best fit to the experimental data at equilibrium. A qmax value (= 103.606 mg/g) at 25°C and 120.773 mg/g at 55°C were eliminated under the optimised conditions, indicating homogeneous adsorption on the surface of the adsorbent. The thermodynamic parameters gave a negative free energy ΔGo (-3.445 to -5.629 kJ/mol), a positive enthalpy ΔHo (18.406 kJ/mol) and an activation energy Ea (= 22.599 kJ/mol), thus confirming the spontaneous and endothermic nature of adsorption of iodine on ACOW. Although almost a third of the world's population is exposed to iodine deficiency (ID), and supplementation programs such as enriching table salt have been carried out or are being carried out at the global and national level, in many regions of the world, people are facing an increase in iodine intake, which is mainly due to the presence of large amounts of iodine in water, soil, agricultural products, or high consumption of seafood. Published articles were indexed in the Scopus database (from 2000 to 1 April 2023) were reviewed and analyzed by VOSviewer software. The results showed the growing interest of researchers over the last 20 years in environmental iodine intake. Abstract—An original technique for modifying graphene oxide with iodine has been developed. It is shown that, when graphene oxide is treated with iodine, oxygen-containing groups are removed from the surface of graphene planes, which improves the electrically conductive properties of the material. The change in the structure and electrical conductivity of the modified graphene oxide, depending on the concentration of iodine, has been studied. According to Raman spectroscopy data, it can be seen that the composition of the modified materials includes molecular complexes of iodine and . Changes in the structure of the crystal lattice of iodine-modified graphene oxide films were studied using X-ray diffraction analysis. According to IR spectroscopy, the effect of iodination on the change in the qualitative composition of functional groups in the material was analyzed. The specific electrical conductivity of graphene oxide as a result of modification increases from 9.6 × 10–10 S/cm for the original material to 3.3 × 10–7 S/cm for the material treated with an isopropanol solution containing 1 wt % I2 relative to dry graphene oxide. The additionally modified films were heat treated at 80°C for 2 h. The resulting changes in the structure of the material are analyzed and an increase in electrical conductivity by one or two orders of magnitude is shown. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Silver-containing silica gel is a commonly used iodine waste adsorption material in post-treatment plants, and can be formed by adsorbing iodine with silver-containing silica gel, which provides a feasible method for treatment of radioactive iodine. The accurate determination of iodine content in iodine-containing silica gel samples can verify the adsorption efficiency of iodine and provide data support for the post-processing process. Silver ions and iodide ions in the iodine-containing silica gel samples form insoluble silver iodide during the dissolution process, it is difficult to quantitatively convert the iodide ions in silver iodide into soluble iodide ions, iodine elements or iodate ions. Therefore it is difficult to measures the iodine content in iodine containing silica gel samples. During the experiment, the effects of masking silver ions on iodide ions were considered. By checking the solubility product constant of the silver compound, the method of adding sulfide ions was used to generate a silver sulfide precipitate that was more difficult to dissolve than silver iodide, thus eliminating the interference of silver ion. The displaced iodide ions existed stably in alkaline solutions, and because of the high iodine content, inductively coupled plasma spectrometry (ICP-OES) was used to measure IS content. During the experiment, the effects of sodium sulfide add-on, ammonia concentration, ultrasound time, etc. on the results were investigated, and the ICP-OES method was used to measure the iodine content in the sample. Experimental results showed that the amount of sodium sulfide added was related to the silver content, excessive sulfide ions needed to be added to precipitate silver ions. Different ammonia concentrations affected the sensitivity of iodine, while the somication time had little effect on the results. The detection limit of the method was 0.52 mg/g after optimizing the experimental conditions, and two silica gel samples containing iodine and silver were measured 6 times, with an average value of 34.8 mg/g and 59.3 mg/g. The relative standard deviations were 2.7% and 2.0%, and the recovery of the spiked was 95. 0%--103%, which could meet the determination of iodine in iodine containing silica gel samples. Excessive intake of iodine will do harm to human health. In recent years, high iodine groundwater has become a global concern after high arsenic and high fluorine groundwater. A deep understanding of the environmental factors affecting iodine accumulation in groundwater and the mechanism of migration and transformation is the scientific prerequisite for effective prevention and control of iodine pollution in groundwater. The paper comprehensively investigated the relevant literature on iodine pollution of groundwater and summarized the present spatial distribution and hydrochemical characteristics of iodine-enriched groundwater. Environmental factors and hydrogeological conditions affecting iodine enrichment in aquifers are systematically summarized. An in-depth analysis of the hydrologic geochemistry, physical chemistry, biogeochemistry and human impacts of iodine transport and transformation in the surface environment was conducted, the results and conclusions in the field of high iodine groundwater research are summarized comprehensively and systematically. Stable isotope can be used as a powerful tool to track the sources of hydrochemical components, biogeochemistry processes, recharge sources and flow paths of groundwater in hydrogeological systems, to provide effective research methods and means for the study of high iodine groundwater system, and deepen the understanding of the formation mechanism of high iodine groundwater, the application of isotopic technique in high iodine groundwater is also systematically summarized, which enriches the method and theory of high iodine groundwater research.
