Prostate carcinoma is one of the most common cancers worldwide in men, with over 3 million men currently living with prostate carcinoma. In men, routine screening and successful treatment schemes, including radiation, prostatectomy, or hormone therapy, have allowed for high survivability. Dogs are recognized as one of the only mammals to spontaneously develop prostate neoplasia and are an important translational model. Within veterinary medicine, treatment options have historically been limited in efficacy or paired with high morbidity. Recently, less invasive treatment modalities have been investigated in dogs and people and demonstrated promise. Below, current treatment options available in dogs and people are reviewed, as well as a discussion of current and future trends within interventional treatment for canine PC.

The article discusses proposed changes to pediatric radiology training and certification. It highlights the decreasing number of residents applying to and enrolling in pediatric radiology fellowship programs, as well as the increasing demand for pediatric radiologists and rising levels of burnout in the specialty. To address these issues, the American Board of Radiology (ABR) has created a temporary alternate pathway to subspecialty certification that does not require prior fellowship training. The article also explores the possibility of eliminating certain certification requirements and offering an in-residency pathway to certification. Background: Preoperative vascular embolization is an effective strategy for managing meningiomas, neck paragangliomas, renal cell carcinomas, and bone metastasis by reducing the intraoperative bleeding volume and operation time. Although hypervascular tumors also occur in the pancreas, preoperative embolization for these tumors is not commonly practiced. We herein present a case of a giant serous cystic neoplasm (SCN) of the pancreas with significant arterial vascularity that was managed with preoperative interventional radiology and subsequently resected via pancreaticoduodenectomy. Case presentation: A 60-year-old man presented with an 8-cm hypervascular tumor located at the head of the pancreas, identified as an SCN on pathologic examination. The tumor had increased by 13 mm over 5 years, necessitating surgical intervention. Computed tomography revealed a substantial blood supply to the tumor from the dorsal pancreatic artery and gastroduodenal artery, both branches of the superior mesenteric artery. To mitigate the risk of severe intraoperative bleeding from this giant hypervascular tumor, branches of the dorsal pancreatic artery and gastroduodenal artery were embolized using metallic coils and further secured using a gelatin sponge 1 day prior to pancreatectomy. During the laparotomy, the tumor appeared to have decreased in size, likely because of reduced distension and congestion. Despite significant adhesions to surrounding tissues secondary to prolonged compression and inflammation, the pancreaticoduodenectomy was completed successfully in 5 h and 15 min with blood loss of 763 mL. The patient was discharged on postoperative day 15 without complications. Conclusions: Preoperative arterial embolization for hypervascular pancreatic tumors might control the risk of massive intraoperative bleeding, contributing to a favorable postoperative outcome. Trauma is a major cause of death worldwide. Interventional radiology provides a set of minimally invasive and effective options that are being integrated as part of the multidisciplinary care plan offered to the trauma patient. However, there are still a lot of areas of development that need to be explored. This article reviews the current role of endovascular interventions in trauma setting, the latest efforts to find the optimum ways to use them and highlights areas of knowledge and gaps in the literature. This study aimed to analyze the online presence of interventional radiology (IR), and its popularity over time and location, given the reported under-awareness of the specialty. The study analyzed search volumes, searcher demographics, and query type related to IR and its four most searched procedures using Google Trends, Demographics.io, and Also Asked. Search strategies were stratified by volume and region ("Worldwide" and "United States"), and the quality of current patient materials in the first 10 Google search results was analyzed using the DISCERN instrument and Flesch Kincaid levels. The analyzed search trends demonstrated a slow uptrend in search volume over the past 15 years since 2013, with a CAGR rate of 0.6%. Demographics revealed that 80.9% of searchers were female and over half (51.8%) fell into the age range of 35–54 years old. Geographically, the US had the highest search volume (100) for the term "interventional radiology" and website search results mainly related to patient education about the specialty. The quality of online resources was poor with overall college-level readability, and "What is Interventional Radiology?" was the most popular query. There is a growing interest in IR procedures in recent years, particularly in the US, with middle-aged females being the most active demographic online. However, online resources containing information on specific IR procedures remain of poor quality. As the future workload of interventional radiologists in the UK continues to expand, it is imperative that current IR trainees are given maximal opportunities to expand their skill sets. This paper argues that opportunities for involvement in international collaborative fieldwork should be expanded for interventional radiology trainees in the UK, as a means of maximising their future competency and positive contribution to the advancement of global healthcare. The study builds upon first-hand experience of the authors in the field and a review of the relevant literature. This scoping review aimed to ascertain the current global health opportunities for interventional radiology trainees primarily in Resource Limited Countries (RLCs). This review further contrasted these opportunities with ones provided to trainees within North America and European countries. This review found that the opportunities for international collaborative fieldwork for UK interventional radiology trainees are sparse. The availability of such opportunities in the US is significantly greater as is the awareness and appreciation of the benefits of such international collaborations for trainees. Benefits include greater experience with a variety of pathologies, a potentially larger volume of workload, improved cultural competency and proficiency and greater cost-conscious and more sustainable practices. It is also pertinent that any future global partnership opportunities for UK clinicians are crafted with care to benefit both UK and international healthcare professionals, institutions and patients within RLCs. Significant work is needed to expand opportunities for global health for interventional radiology trainees in the UK. Introduction Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) poses a complex challenge and often leads to postthrombotic syndrome (PTS), a debilitating complication. The emergence of venous stents offers a potential preventive avenue against this complication. This study aimed to provide consensus recommendations on the use of venous stent for DVT. Materials and Methods From June to July 2023, 20 internal medicine, angiology and vascular surgery, and vascular and interventional radiology experts were involved in the Delphi process. Thirty-one recommendations, categorized into three thematic areas, were rigorously evaluated: indications for stent use, stent selection and placement, and monitoring and prevention of complications. Agreement was evaluated using a Likert scale, with consensus defined as agreement by two-thirds of the participants. Results Consensus was reached for 23 (74.2%) of 31 recommendations. The agreement was centered on considerations, such as stent placement in specific acute DVT scenarios, emphasizing pivotal stent characteristics. However, there were divergences in the recommended stent length to prevent migration and stent characteristics based on iliocaval bifurcation morphology. Notably, there was no consensus on whether patients with DVT caused by a major transient risk factor need more than 3 months of anticoagulation therapy or whether aspirin should be added to anticoagulant treatment after venous stenting. Conclusions These consensus recommendations offer practical insights into optimizing venous stent use to prevent PTS in DVT patients. Addressing the critical aspects of stent selection, placement, and postprocedural care, these recommendations contribute to clinical decision-making. Objectives: To evaluate diagnostic yield and accuracy of image-guided core needle biopsy (ICNB) of suspected malignant osseous lesions in a large cohort of adults, evaluate what factors influence these measures, and offer technical recommendations to optimize yield. Methods: A retrospective analysis of 2321 ICNBs performed from 2010 to 2021 was completed. The diagnostic yield and accuracy of the biopsies as well as a series of patient, lesion-related, and technical factors were retrospectively analyzed. Multivariate statistical analysis was performed to evaluate what factors were associated with yield and accuracy. Different cutoff values of total core length and core number were then tested to determine threshold values in relation to increased diagnostic yield. Results: Diagnostic yield was 98.2% (2279/2321) and accuracy was 97.6% (120/123). Increased total core length (odds ratio [OR] = 2.34, 95% confidence interval [CI] (1.41–3.90), p = 0.001), core number (OR = 1.51, 95% CI (1.06–2.16), p = 0.02) and presence of primary malignancy (OR = 2.81, 95% CI (1.40–5.62), p = 0.004) were associated with improved yield. Lesion location in an extremity (OR = 0.27, 95% CI (0.11–0.68), p = 0.006) and using fluoroscopic imaging guidance (OR = 0.33, 95% CI (0.12–0.90), p = 0.03) were associated with lower yield. Cutoff thresholds in relation to increased diagnostic yield were found to be 20 mm total core length (marginal OR = 4.16, 95% CI = (2.09–9.03), p < 0.001), and three total cores obtained (marginal OR = 2.78, 95% CI (1.34–6.54), p = 0.005). None of the analyzed factors influenced diagnostic accuracy. Conclusions: ICNB has a high rate of diagnostic yield and accuracy. Several factors influence diagnostic yield; 20 mm core length and three total cores optimize yield. West Africa has among the highest rates of hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) malignancies in the world. Although surgery is critical for treatment, the availability of HPB surgery in Africa is unknown. This cross-sectional study investigated the current HPB surgical capacity of West African hospitals. The Surgeons OverSeas Personnel, Infrastructure, Procedure, Equipment, and Supplies (PIPES) survey was modified to include HPB-specific parameters and quantify capacity. The survey was completed by consultant surgeons from West Africa. A PIPES index was calculated, and a higher score corresponded to greater HPB surgical capacity. The HPB PIPES survey was completed by 35 institutions from The Gambia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, and Nigeria. Most institutions (94.2%) were tertiary referral centres; five had an HPB-trained surgeon. The most commonly available procedure was an open cholecystectomy (91.4%), followed by gastric bypass (88.6%). Major hepatic resections (14.3%) and the Whipple procedure (17.1%) were rare. ICU capabilities were present at 88.6% of facilities while interventional radiology was present in 25.7%. This is the first HPB capacity assessment in Africa. This study showed the limited availability of HPB surgery in West Africa. These results can be used for regional quality improvement initiatives and as a baseline for future capacity assessments. Pulmonary abscess is a complication of lung infection with localized necrosis and purulent cavity formation. Pulmonary abscesses are typically managed using antibiotic therapy with anatomic surgical resection reserved as a rescue. Percutaneous drainage is considered relatively contraindicated in some centers due to perceived risk of bronchopleural fistula. However, drain placement has been frequently employed at our institution. The purpose of this study was to review and describe our longitudinal experience. Medical records of children diagnosed with lung abscess and treated with percutaneous drainage from 2005 through 2023 were reviewed. Patient clinical parameters, follow-up imaging, and clinical outcomes were evaluated. Percutaneous drainage (n = 24) or aspiration alone (n = 4) under imaging guidance was performed by interventional radiologists for 28 children with lung abscesses. A single catheter (8–12 Fr) was deployed in the pulmonary abscess cavity and remained for a median of 6 days (IQR: 6–8 days). The median hospital stay was 10 days (IQR: 8.8–14.8 days). The technical success rate for percutaneous drainage or aspiration of primary pulmonary abscesses was 100% (26/26). Two children were later diagnosed with secondarily infected congenital pulmonary airway malformations that were both successfully drained and ultimately surgically resected. The abscess cavities resolved in all patients and catheters were removed upon clinical, radiographic, and laboratory improvement. Complications included the presence of two bronchopleural fistula, both of which were treated with immediate pleural drain placement. Percutaneous drainage of pulmonary abscesses is an effective therapeutic option in children and can be considered alongside antibiotics as part of the initial treatment for pulmonary abscesses. Purpose: An international survey was conducted by the Cardiovascular Interventional Radiological Society of Europe (CIRSE) to evaluate radioembolization practice and capture opinions on real-world clinical and technical aspects of this therapy. Materials and Methods: A survey with 32 multiple choice questions was sent as an email to CIRSE members between November and December 2022. CIRSE group member and sister societies promoted the survey to their local members. The dataset was cleaned of duplicates and entries with missing data, and the resulting anonymized dataset was analysed. Data were presented using descriptive statistics. Results: The survey was completed by 133 sites, from 30 countries, spanning 6 continents. Most responses were from European centres (87/133, 65%), followed by centres from the Americas (22/133, 17%). Responding sites had been performing radioembolization for 10 years on average and had completed a total of 20,140 procedures over the last 5 years. Hepatocellular carcinoma treatments constituted 56% of this total, colorectal liver metastasis 17% and cholangiocarcinoma 14%. New sites had opened every year for the past 20 years, indicating the high demand for this therapy. Results showed a trend towards individualized treatment, with 79% of responders reporting use of personalized dosimetry for treatment planning and 97% reporting routine assessment of microsphere distribution post-treatment. Interventional radiologists played an important role in referrals, being present in the referring multi-disciplinary team in 91% of responding centres. Conclusion: This survey provides insight into the current state of radioembolization practice globally. Urothelial carcinoma (UC) occurs uncommonly in cats and no association has previously been observed with long‐term indwelling urinary implants. An 18‐year‐old male castrated domestic shorthair cat initially was presented for hematuria, leading to the diagnosis of a right‐sided ureterolithiasis and severe pyelectasia on ultrasound examination, prompting right‐sided subcutaneous ureteral bypass (SUB) device placement. The cat subsequently had intermittent hematuria and dysuria, without ultrasonographic abnormality of the bladder or positive urine culture. Thirteen months later the patient developed refractory lower urinary tract signs, azotemia, a proliferative mass in the region of the cystostomy tube component of the SUB device and evidence of left ureteral obstruction. Cystostomy tube revision and left‐sided SUB device placement were performed, as well as a partial cystectomy for removal of the mass. Upon histopathology, the mass was diagnosed as a UC. To our knowledge, UC associated with a long‐term indwelling cystostomy catheter component of a SUB device has not been reported in veterinary medicine. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Whether endobiliary radiofrequency ablation (EB-RFA) changes the standard role of stent placement in treating unresectable malignant biliary obstruction (MBO) remains unclear. The aim of this study is to compare percutaneous EB-RFA and metal stent placement (RFA-Stent) with metal stent placement alone (Stent) in treating unresectable MBO using a propensity score matching (PSM) analysis. Methods: From June 2013 to June 2018, clinical data from 163 patients with malignant biliary obstruction who underwent percutaneous RFA-Stent or stenting alone were retrospectively analyzed using a nearest-neighbor algorithm to one-to-one PSM analysis to compare primary and secondary stent patency (PSP, SSP), overall survival (OS) and complications between the two groups. Results: Before matching, for whole patients, RFA-Stent resulted in longer median PSP (8.0 vs. 5.1 months, P = 0.003), SSP (9.8 vs. 5.1 months, P < 0.001) and OS (7.0 vs. 4.5 months, P = 0.034) than the Stent group. After matching (54 pairs), RFA-Stent also resulted in better median PSP (8.5 vs. 5.1 months, P < 0.001), SSP (11.0 vs. 6.0 months, P < 0.001), and OS (8.0 vs. 4.0 months, P = 0.007) than Stent. RFA-Stent was comparable with Stent for complication rates. In Cox analysis, RFA-Stent modality and serum total bilirubin level were independent prognostic factors for PSP. RFA-Stent modality, performance status score and combination therapy after stent were independent prognostic factors for OS. Purpose: The present retrospective study aimed to analyze patient characteristics, perioperative complications, and short-term outcomes of surgery for fragility fractures of the pelvis (FFP). Methods: We selected 42 patients who underwent surgery for FFP between October 2019 and October 2022 and could be followed for more than 6 months postoperatively, including one male patient and 41 female patients with an average age of 83.5 (65–96) years. The following demographic data were collected: Rommens classification, surgical method, reoperation rate, implant loosening, perioperative complications, interventional radiology (IVR) indication rate, perioperative blood transfusion indication rate, Parker Mobility Score (PMS) before surgery and at final follow-up, and numerical rating scale (NRS) score before surgery and on day 3 postoperatively. Results: Rommens classification was as follows: type IIa (n = 2), type IIb (n = 13), type IIIa (n = 8), type IIIc (n = 3), type IVb (n = 13), and type IVc (n = 3). For surgical procedure, 35 patients (83.3%) were successfully stabilized with percutaneous screw fixation alone, and 7 patients further required open plate fixation. Implant loosening was observed in 16 patients (38.1%), including minor cases, and implant removal was required in 1 patient. Minor perforation of the screw was observed as an intraoperative complication in 6 patients; there were no patients with neurological symptoms. At the time of injury, IVR was indicated in 3 patients (7.1%) because of hemorrhage. Thirty patients (71.4%) had medical complications at the time of admission. One patient died due to postoperative pneumonia. Mean PMS before injury and at final follow-up were 6.51 points and 5.38 points, respectively. Mean NRS scores before surgery and on day 3 postoperatively were 5.26 and 3.49, respectively, showing a significant improvement (p < 0.01). Conclusion: We retrospectively reviewed 42 patients who required surgery for FFP. More than 80% of cases could be treated with percutaneous screw fixation, but it is always important to consider hemorrhagic shock at the time of injury and indications for IVR. Implant loosening was observed in 38.1% of patients, including minor cases, and was considered an issue to be improved on in the future, such as by using cement augmentation. A significant improvement in mean NRS score on day 3 postoperatively relative to the mean preoperative score was observed, suggesting that surgery may contribute to early mobilization. Purpose: To evaluate outcomes following percutaneous image‐guided ablation of soft tissue sarcoma metastases to the liver. Materials and Methods: A single‐institution retrospective analysis of patients with a diagnosis of metastatic soft tissue sarcoma who underwent percutaneous image‐guided ablation of hepatic metastases between January 2011 and December 2021 was performed. Patients with less than 60 days of follow‐up after ablation were excluded. The primary outcome was local tumor progression‐free survival (LPFS). Secondary outcomes included overall survival, liver‐specific progression‐free survival. and chemotherapy‐free survival. Results: Fifty‐five patients who underwent percutaneous ablation for 84 metastatic liver lesions were included. The most common histopathological subtypes were leiomyosarcoma (23/55), followed by gastrointestinal stromal tumor (22/55). The median treated liver lesions was 2 (range, 1–8), whereas the median size of metastases were 1.8 cm (0.3–8.7 cm). Complete response at 2 months was achieved in 90.5% of the treated lesions. LPFS was 83% at 1 year and 80% at 2 years. Liver‐specific progression‐free survival was 66% at 1 year and 40% at 2 years. The overall survival at 1 and 2 years was 98% and 94%. The chemotherapy‐free holiday from the start of ablation was 71.2% at 12 months. The complication rate was 3.6% (2/55); one of the complications was Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events grade 3 or higher. LPFS subgroup analysis for leiomyosarcoma versus gastrointestinal stromal tumor suggests histology‐agnostic outcomes (2 years, 89% vs 82%, p =.35). Conclusion: Percutaneous image‐guided liver ablation of soft tissue sarcoma metastases is safe and efficacious. Image‐guided ablation of sarcoma metastasis is a promising modality for treating sarcoma metastases to the liver, with a local tumor progression‐free survival of 83% and 80% at 1 and 2 years. Subgroup analysis demonstrated no significant differences between the local tumor progression‐free survival of gastrointestinal stromal tumor versus leiomyosarcoma, suggesting a histology‐agnostic treatment paradigm. This study aims to assess the impact that delivering an introductory interventional radiology (IR) lecture series has on the knowledge and perception of the specialty among medical students in a resource-limited setting with, until recently, no IR presence. An introductory four-hour lecture series in IR was delivered to third-year medical students in Tanzania. Prior to and following the lecture series, participants completed a 27-item paper-based survey assessing their knowledge and perception of the specialty. Out of a class of 213, the pre- and post-lecture survey was returned by 148 (69.5%) and 151 (70.9%) respondents, respectively. 94.5% of respondents indicated that they were aware of IR as a specialty. Among respondents, 97.3% expressed interest in having IR lectures integrated into their curriculum, compared to 29.0% that reported having any prior IR training. 27.3% believed their knowledge in IR compared to other specialties was either "good" or "excellent", which improved to 43.3% (p<0.001). Identification that IR physicians consult patients directly, have outpatient clinics, have inpatient beds, and do rounds improved from 55.4% to 81.1% (p<0.001), 49.7% to 60.3% (p=0.066), 48.3% to 66.7% (p=0.001), and 52.0% to 66.2% (p=0.013), respectively. By introducing short lectures on IR-relevant topics, knowledge and perception of IR improved among Tanzanian medical students. The introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) in interventional radiology (IR) will bring about new challenges and opportunities for patients and clinicians. AI may comprise software as a medical device or AI-integrated hardware and will require a rigorous evaluation that should be guided based on the level of risk of the implementation. A hierarchy of risk of harm and possible harms are described herein. A checklist to guide deployment of an AI in a clinical IR environment is provided. Interventional Oncology (IO) stands at the forefront of transformative cancer care, leveraging advanced imaging technologies and innovative interventions. This narrative review explores recent developments within IO, highlighting its potential impact facilitated by artificial intelligence (AI), personalized medicine and imaging innovations. The integration of AI in IO holds promise for accelerating tumour detection and characterization, guiding treatment strategies and refining predictive models. Imaging modalities, including functional MRI, PET and cone beam CT are reshaping imaging and precision. Navigation, fusion imaging, augmented reality and robotics have the potential to revolutionize procedural guidance and offer unparalleled accuracy. New developments are observed in embolization and ablative therapies. The pivotal role of genomics in treatment planning, targeted therapies and biomarkers for treatment response prediction underscore the personalization of IO. Quality of life assessment, minimizing side effects and long-term survivorship care emphasize patient-centred outcomes after IO treatment. The evolving landscape of IO training programs, simulation technologies and workforce competence ensures the field's adaptability. Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly evolving and has transformative potential for interventional radiology (IR) clinical practice. However, formal training in AI may be limited for many clinicians and therefore presents a challenge for initial implementation and trust in AI. An understanding of the foundational concepts in AI may help familiarize the interventional radiologist with the field of AI, thus facilitating understanding and participation in the development and deployment of AI. A pragmatic classification system of AI based on the complexity of the model may guide clinicians in the assessment of AI. Background: Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) is an important therapy for complications of portal hypertension but remains underutilised in regional settings. Aims: The aim of this study is to explore the demographics, indications, outcomes and complications in patients undergoing TIPS in two regional hepatology centres. Methods: Retrospective analysis was undertaken of all patients undergoing TIPS at two regional centres between January 2017 and March 2023. The primary outcome measures were efficacy and complications of TIPS. Patient demographics (such as age, baseline liver severity scores and aetiology of liver disease) and indications for TIPS are detailed. Results: Forty‐eight patients underwent TIPS. Median age was 56 years (interquartile range (IQR): 46–65). The most common indications for TIPS were refractory ascites (n = 17) and failure of secondary prophylaxis of variceal bleeding (n = 13). Cumulative survival at 3 months and 1 year was 93% and 77% respectively. There was no significant difference in outcomes based on TIPS indication. The median number of paracenteses in patients undergoing TIPS for refractory ascites 1 year pre‐ and post‐TIPS were 10 (IQR: 4.5–16) and 2 (IQR: 0–4) respectively (P < 0.001). There were no procedure‐related deaths. Inpatient management of liver disease complications had a mean cost of $32 874.67 (SEM: 7779) in 1 year pre‐TIPS compared with $12 304.70 (SEM: 3531.1) in 1 year post‐TIPS (P < 0.001). Vascular interventions are an important and established tool in the management of the oncology patient. The goal of these procedures may be curative, palliative or adjunctive in nature. Some of the common vascular interventions used in oncology include transarterial embolisation or chemoembolisation, selective internal radiation therapy, chemosaturation, venous access lines, superior vena cava stenting and portal vein embolisation. We provide an overview of the principles, technology and approach of vascular techniques for tumour therapy in both the arterial and venous systems. Arterial interventions are currently mainly used in the management of hepatocellular carcinoma. Transarterial embolisation, chemoembolisation and selective internal radiation therapy deliver targeted catheter-delivered treatments with the aim of reducing tumour burden, controlling tumour growth or increasing survival in patients not eligible for transplantation. Chemosaturation is a regional chemotherapy technique that delivers high doses of chemotherapy directly to the liver via the hepatic artery, while reducing the risks of systemic effects. Venous interventions are more adjunctive in nature. Venous access lines are used to provide a means of delivering chemotherapy and other medications directly into the bloodstream. Superior vena cava stenting is a palliative procedure that is used to relieve symptoms of superior vena cava obstruction. Portal vein embolisation is a procedure that allows hypertrophy of a healthy portion of the liver in preparation for liver resection. Interventional radiology-led vascular interventions play an essential part of cancer management. These procedures are minimally invasive and provide a safe and effective adjunct to traditional cancer treatment methods. Appropriate work-up and discussion of each patient-specific problem in a multidisciplinary setting with interventional radiology is essential to provide optimum patient-centred care. Various image-guided ablative procedures include chemical and thermal ablation techniques and irreversible electroporation. These have been used for curative intent for small tumours and palliative intent for debulking, immunogenicity and pain control. Understanding these techniques is critical to avoiding complications and achieving superior clinical outcomes. Additionally, combination with immunotherapy and chemotherapies is rapidly evolving. There are numerous opportunities in interventional radiology to advance ablation techniques and seamlessly integrate into current treatment regimens for both benign and malignant tumours. Purpose: Endovascular aneurysm repair has emerged as the standard therapy for abdominal aortic aneurysms. In 9–30% of cases, retrograde filling of the aneurysm sac through patent branch arteries may result in persistence of blood flow outside the graft and within the aneurysm sac. This condition is called an endoleak type II, which may be treated by catheter-based embolization in case of continued sac enlargement. If an endovascular access is not possible, percutaneous targeting of the perfused nidus remains the only option. However, this can be very challenging due to the difficult access and deep puncture with risk of organ perforation and bleeding. Innovative targeting techniques such as robotics may provide a promising option for safe and successful targeting. Methods: In nine consecutive patients, percutaneous embolization of type II endoleaks was performed using a table-mounted micro-robotic targeting platform. The needle path from the skin entry to the perfused nidus was planned based on the C-arm CT image data in the angio-suite. Entry point and path angle were aligned using the joystick-operated micro-robotic system under fluoroscopic control, and the coaxial needle was introduced until the target point within the perfused nidus was reached. Results: All punctures were successful, and there were no puncture-related complications. The pre-operative C-arm CT was executed in 11–15 s, and pathway planning required 2–3 min. The robotic setup and sterile draping were performed in 1–2 min, and the alignment to the surgical plan took no longer than 30 s. Conclusion: Due to the small size, the micro-robotic platform seamlessly integrated into the routine clinical workflow in the angio-suite. Purpose: This project examines ChatGPT's potential to enhance the readability of patient educational materials about interventional radiology (IR) procedures. Methods and Materials: The descriptions of IR procedures from the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe (CIRSE) were used as the original text. Readability scores were calculated using three metrics: Flesch Reading Ease (FRE), Gunning Fog (GF), and the Automated Readability Index (ARI) using an online calculator (https://readabilityformulas.com). FRE is scored on a scale of 0–100, where 100 indicates easy-to-read texts, and GF and ARI represent the grade level required to comprehend the text. The DISCERN instrument measured credibility and reliability. ChatGPT was prompted to simplify the texts to a fifth-grade reading level, with subsequent recalculation of readability and DISCERN scores for comparison. Statistical significance was determined using a Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. Articles were subsequently organized by subgroups and analyzed. Results: 73 interventional radiology procedures from CIRSE were analyzed. The original FRE score was 47.2 (Difficult), improved to 78.4 (Fairly Easy) by ChatGPT. GF and ARI scores dropped from 14.4 and 11.2 to 7.8 and 5.8, respectively, after simplification, showing significant improvement (p < 0.001). However, the average DISCERN score decreased from 3.73 to 2.99 (p < 0.001) post-ChatGPT simplification. Conclusion: This study shows ChatGPT's ability to make interventional radiology descriptions more readable but highlights its struggle to maintain the original's reliability, suggesting the need for human review and prompt engineering to enhance outcomes. Purpose: To describe a single-center experience with robotic-assisted endovascular treatment for transplant renal artery stenosis. Materials and Methods: This is a single-center, retrospective, feasibility study of 4 consecutive cases of robotic-assisted endovascular surgery for transplant renal artery stenosis from October 2021 to August 2022. Results: All lesions were identified, and stenting was performed with no complications. Conversion to manual control was not necessary. The mean fluoroscopy time was 25.25 min (range 12–60.9). A control Doppler ultrasound was routinely performed, demonstrating no residual lesions in all cases. There was no reintervention during the follow-up period. Introduction: Augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) are emerging tools in interventional radiology (IR), enhancing IR education, preprocedural planning, and intraprocedural guidance. Areas covered: This review identifies current applications of AR/VR in IR, with a focus on studies that assess the clinical impact of AR/VR. We outline the relevant technology and assess current limitations and future directions in this space. We found that the use of AR in IR lags other surgical fields, and the majority of the data exists in case series or small-scale studies. Educational use of AR/VR improves learning anatomy, procedure steps, and procedural learning curves. Preprocedural use of AR/VR decreases procedure times, especially in complex procedures. Intraprocedural AR for live tracking is accurate within 5 mm live patients and has up to 0.75 mm in phantoms, offering decreased procedure time and radiation exposure. Challenges include cost, ergonomics, rapid segmentation, and organ motion. Expert opinion: The use of AR/VR in interventional radiology may lead to safer and more efficient procedures. Purpose: To evaluate outcomes and complications of prophylactic internal iliac balloon occlusion (PIIBO) in the management of patients with placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) at a large regional referral centre. Materials and methods: A retrospective review of all PIIBO for PAS performed over a 12-year period (2010–2022). Information for analysis was gathered from the local RIS/PACS and clinical documentation. Collected data included patient demographics, indication for procedure, sheath insertion and removal time, total duration of balloon inflation and complications that occurred. Results: 106 patients underwent temporary internal iliac artery balloon occlusion within the 12-year period. All procedures utilised bilateral common femoral artery punctures, 6Fr sheath and 5Fr Le Maitre occlusion balloons. Catheters were successfully positioned and balloons inflated in obstetric theatre following caesarean delivery in 100% of the cases. The uterus was conserved in every case. There was no maternal mortality or foetal morbidity. Twenty patients (18.9%) had some form of complication that required further intervention. Of these, 7(6.6%) had post-operative PPH, which was treated with uterine artery embolisation; and 13 (12.3%) had arterial thrombus which required aspiration thrombectomy. All procedures were technically successful with no long-term sequelae. Conclusion: PIIBO plays an important part in reducing morbidity and mortality in patients with PAS. Clear pathways and multidisciplinary team working is critical in the management of these patients to ensure that any complications are dealt with promptly to avoid long-term sequelae. Simple Summary: Image-guided solid tumor ablation therapy is an expanding practice designed to effectively target and eradicate malignant tissue through noninvasive or minimally invasive techniques. There exist several ablation systems that can utilize localized heating or mechanical stress to induce cell death of malignant cells. The provider selects a technique based on patient comorbidities, the type of malignancy, the size and location of the tumor, and the desired goal of therapy. Over the past two decades, several studies have validated the safety and efficacy of these techniques in humans to be used as an alternative to medical and surgical therapy or as an adjunct in a hybrid treatment plan. Compared to conventional surgical therapies, these procedures are better tolerated, with reduced morbidity and mortality, providing options to patients that are not surgical candidates. This article reviews the new and common techniques in solid tumor ablation and the research supporting their use in oncological treatment. Image-guided solid tumor ablation methods have significantly advanced in their capability to target primary and metastatic tumors. These techniques involve noninvasive or percutaneous insertion of applicators to induce thermal, electrochemical, or mechanical stress on malignant tissue to cause tissue destruction and apoptosis of the tumor margins. Ablation offers substantially lower risks compared to traditional methods. Benefits include shorter recovery periods, reduced bleeding, and greater preservation of organ parenchyma compared to surgical intervention. Due to the reduced morbidity and mortality, image-guided tumor ablation offers new opportunities for treatment in cancer patients who are not candidates for resection. Currently, image-guided ablation techniques are utilized for treating primary and metastatic tumors in various organs with both curative and palliative intent, including the liver, pancreas, kidneys, thyroid, parathyroid, prostate, lung, breast, bone, and soft tissue. The invention of new equipment and techniques is expanding the criteria of eligible patients for therapy, as now larger and more high-risk tumors near critical structures can be ablated. This article provides an overview of the different imaging modalities, noninvasive, and percutaneous ablation techniques available and discusses their applications and associated complications across various organs. Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA) is the second most common malignant primary liver cancer. iCCA may develop on an underlying chronic liver disease and its incidence is growing in relation with the epidemics of obesity and metabolic diseases. In contrast, perihilar cholangiocarcinoma (pCCA) may follow a history of chronic inflammatory diseases of the biliary tract. The initial management of CCAs is often complex and requires multidisciplinary expertise. The French Association for the Study of the Liver wished to organize guidelines in order to summarize the best evidence available about several key points in iCCA and pCCA. These guidelines have been elaborated based on the level of evidence available in the literature and each recommendation has been analysed, discussed and voted by the panel of experts. They describe the epidemiology of CCA as well as how patients with iCCA or pCCA should be managed from diagnosis to treatment. Background: Pancreatic cancer ranks 10th in the incidence rate of malignant tumors in male, and 12th in female. Pancreatic cancer is the sixth leading cause of tumor-related deaths in China. It is a devastating malignancy with poor prognosis. Methods: Driven by the concept of "integrated medicine", the China Anti-Cancer Association Committee of Pancreatic Cancer organized relevant experts to complete this guideline. Results: This guideline aims to guide the integrated treatment and rehabilitation management of pancreatic cancer in an all-round way based on "Preventing, Screening, Diagnosing, Treating, and Rehabilitating". Background/Objectives: Our objective was to evaluate changes in the management of symptomatic fibroids after establishing a multidisciplinary fibroid center with minimally invasive gynecologic surgery (MIGS) and interventional radiology (IR). Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted at the fibroid center created in September 2020. Patients were offered same-day consults with both MIGS and IR providers. Data were collected for patients with initial consultations from January to June 2019 (pre-fibroid center) and from January to June 2021 (post-fibroid center). Results: Among 615 patients meeting inclusion criteria, 273 had consultations pre-center and 342 post-center. More patients seen post-center had previously attempted medical management (30.1% vs. 20.2%), with a significant proportion having no prior medical or surgical treatment (53.2% vs. 61.5%). Post-center, there were more MIGS consultations (65.5% vs. 53.1%) and a decrease in general gynecology (GYN) consultations (19.0% vs. 25.6%). More patients sought additional opinions post-center (83.6% vs. 67.0%), particularly with MIGS (58.8% vs. 37.0%). General GYNs referred to MIGS (79.3% vs. 73.1%) and IR specialists (16.0% vs. 13.0%) more often in 2021. In 2021, use of MRI increased (66.5% vs. 52.4%), and more patients underwent uterine artery embolization (UAE) within 1 year of consultation compared to the pre-center period (13.8% vs. 6.9%). Conclusions: Patients with symptomatic fibroids often seek the expertise of specialists to explore treatment options. A multidisciplinary fibroid center that integrates efforts of MIGS and IR enables thorough counseling and a rise in the utilization of minimally invasive procedures, including UAE. Simple Summary: Portal vein arterialization (PVA) is a critical surgical intervention employed when hepatic artery blood flow restoration is unattainable. By redirecting arterial blood to the portal vein, PVA ensures adequate oxygenation of the liver. However, this procedure can induce complications such as portal hypertension and thrombosis if not meticulously managed. The absence of standardized postoperative care protocols exacerbates patient risks. In response, we have developed a standard operating procedure (SOP) tailored for radiologists. This modified SOP is designed to minimize complications and enhance patient outcomes by providing clear, consistent guidelines for post-surgical care, thereby fostering improved interdisciplinary collaboration. Dedicated diagnostic vascular imaging and the timely management of PVA shunts are paramount to preventing complications, such as portal hypertension and thrombosis. Regrettably, a lack of standardized postoperative management protocols for PVA has increased morbidity and mortality rates post-procedure. Simple Summary: Liquid-nitrogen-based cryoablation presents a minimally invasive therapeutic option for small local cancer of the breast. The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy and safety of cryoablation according to safety and efficacy. Therefore, this study reports on the outcome of 45 patients who were treated with liquid nitrogen-based cryoablation at our clinic. This study shall retrospectively evaluate the efficacy and safety of liquid-nitrogen based CT-guided cryoablation (CA) as a minimal-invasive technique for the curative treatment of primary breast cancer. A total of 45 female patients with 56 tumors were treated by CT-guided CA in analgosedation as an outpatient procedure. We used a liquid-nitrogen based system with a single cryoprobe and performed two freeze cycles with an intermediate thawing. The mean tumor diameter was 1.6 ± 0.7 cm. Follow-up was conducted via contrast-enhanced MR images of the breast. No complications were observed in all 56 ablations. Initial complete ablation was achieved in 100% of cases. Four cases of local tumor progression were reported, resulting in a rate of 8.9%, and 6 cases of intramammary distant recurrence at a rate of 13.3%. The extramammary tumor progression was observed in 7 patients at a rate of 15.6%. The mean overall survival was 4.13 years (95% CI: 3.7–4.5). The mean overall progression-free survival was 2.5 years (95% CI: 1.8–3.2) and the mean local progression-free survival was 2.9 years (95% CI: 2.3–3.6). Cryoablation is a safe and effective treatment for primary breast cancer tumors, which can be performed in analgosedation and as an outpatient procedure. In this report, we present a case of a radiotherapy-induced tracheoesophageal fistula treated with the fluoroscopy-guided insertion of a covered stent through the gastrostomy route using both the antegrade and retrograde approaches. The initial antegrade endoscopic and fluoroscopic stent insertion procedure failed due to severe esophageal stricture. Compared to the endoscopic approaches, fluoroscopy-guided radiologic procedures are generally less invasive and more successful because they allow for a better understanding of the anatomy outside the lumen during the procedure and enable the use of devices with smaller diameters. Purpose: The aim of this prospective study was to evaluate the tolerance and feasibility of using virtual reality headsets with patients during interventional radiology procedures. Material and method: In this single-center prospective study, the use of a virtual reality headset in addition to the usual analgesic and anxiolytic treatment was proposed to all patients presenting in the interventional radiology department from December 2020 to June 2022. Exclusion criteria were as follows: (1) patients with whom it was not possible to communicate (2) epileptic patients, (3) non-verbal patients, and (4) pregnant women. The main objective was to evaluate the safety of the procedure by screening complications during and after the procedure. The second objective was to evaluate feasibility, as defined by the number of patients using the helmet until the end of the procedure. Effectiveness (patient’s self-evaluation of pain and anxiety), comfort, satisfaction, emotions felt, sense of security, and feeling of immersion were also evaluated. Caregivers completed a feedback questionnaire. Results: Virtual reality headsets were offered to 100 patients, 9 of whom declined. Procedures were achieved in 93.5% of cases: 6/91 patients removed the headset before the end of the procedure. There were minor adverse events in 2/85 (2.3%) procedures (discomfort and nausea) and no major adverse events. 93.9% of patients found an overall benefit, and 90.2% would recommend virtual reality to another patient. 94.4% of caregivers were satisfied with the virtual reality equipment. The mean pain level was 2.5 ± 2.7 before the procedure, 3.3 ± 2.5 during the procedure, and 1.6 ± 2.7 after the procedure. Mean anxiety scores were 4.6 ± 2.9 before the procedure, 3.1 ± 2.7 during the procedure, and 1.1 ± 1.9 after the procedure. Conclusion: The use of virtual reality technology as a complement to traditional therapy for procedures under local anesthesia is feasible and safe in interventional radiology and can be beneficial for pain and anxiety management. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to assess the performance of an optically tracked robot for computed-tomography (CT)-guided needle placements in a phantom study. Methods: In total, 240 needle punctures were carried out with the help of an optically tracked robotic device (Micromate) based on CT image datasets at three different slice thicknesses (1, 3, and 5 mm). Conically shaped targets inside a gelatin-filled plexiglass phantom were punctured. The target positioning error between the planned and actual needle trajectory was assessed by measuring the lateral positioning error (ND) between the target and the puncture needle and the Euclidean distance (ED) between the needle tip and target in control CTs. Results: The mean ND and ED for the thinnest CT slice thickness were 1.34 mm (SD ± 0.82) and 2.1 mm (SD ± 0.75), respectively. There was no significant impact of target depth on targeting accuracy for ND (p = 0.094) or ED (p = 0.187). The mean duration for the planning of one trajectory and for needle positioning were 42 s (SD ± 4) and 64 s (SD ± 7), respectively. Conclusions: In this ex vivo study, the robotic targeting device yielded satisfactory accuracy results at CT slice thicknesses of 1 and 3 mm. The new advancement in percutaneous intervention procedures, which provides more accurate needle placement compared to other modalities, is Augmented Reality (AR). It provides the operator with 3-dimensional (3D) or 2-dimensional (2D) structures of the anatomy along with the target during surgery to get a precise needle placement into the target. The review highlights that using AR systems for needle navigation and placement can become productivity in various interventional procedures. The AR navigation system reduces radiation exposure, procedural time, risk to the patient, and ensures higher accuracy of needle placement than conventional Computed Tomography (CT)-guided percutaneous procedure systems. The AR system can provide precisely guided needle insertion and reduce the risk of complications. As technology and research are increasing, new techniques, such as automatic image-hologram registration, can be brought into the picture. This review compares conventional image-guided procedure systems with the AR system in the interventional radiology field. This review also provides detailed information about AR as a promising tool for optimising needle placement in interventional procedures, paving the way for safer and more effective clinical practices. Introduction: Round window approach and cochleostomy approach can have different depth of electrode insertion during cochlear implantation which itself can alter the audiological outcomes in cochlear implant. Objective: The current study was conducted to determine the difference in the depth of electrode insertion via cochleostomy and round widow approach when done serially in same temporal bone. Methodology: This is a cross-sectional study conducted in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology in conjunction with Department of Anatomy and Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology over a period of 1 year. 12-electrode array insertion was performed via either approach (cochleostomy or round window) in the cadaveric temporal bone. HRCT temporal bone scan of the implanted temporal bone was done and depth of insertion and various cochlear parameters were calculated. Result: A total of 12 temporal bones were included for imaging analysis. The mean cochlear duct length was 32.892 mm; the alpha and beta angles were 58.175° and 8.350°, respectively. The mean angular depth of electrode insertion via round window was found to be 325.2° (SD = 150.5842) and via cochleostomy 327.350 (SD = 112.79) degree and the mean linear depth of electrode insertion via round window was found to be 18.80 (SD = 4.4962) mm via cochleostomy 19.650 (SD = 3.8087) mm, which was calculated using OTOPLAN 1.5.0 software. There was a statically significant difference in linear depth of insertion between round window and cochleostomy. Although the angular depth of insertion was higher in CS group, there was no statistically significant difference with round window type of insertion. Conclusion: The depth of electrode insertion is one of the parameters that influences the hearing outcome. Linear depth of electrode insertion was found to be more in case of cochleostomy compared to round window approach (p = 0.075) and difference in case of angular depth of electrode insertion existed but not significant (p = 0.529). Purpose The aim of this study is to compare 30-day complications, procedure-related mortality, and overall mortality rates for de novo enteral feeding tube insertion with fluoroscopy-guided percutaneous balloon-retention versus traditional locking-loop tubes. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on adult patients who underwent fluoroscopically guided gastrostomy or gastrojejunostomy tube insertions at two tertiary care centers. We categorized complications based on the Society of Interventional Radiology Standards of Practice for Gastrointestinal Access. Factors including the indication for the procedure, the number of gastropexy anchors, and the tube size were analyzed. Statistical analysis was performed using chi-square tests, and the results were compared with patients who underwent locking loop insertions. Results A total of 118 patients underwent percutaneous balloon-retention gastrostomy (BRG) or gastrojejunostomy (BRGJ) tube insertions in 2018. These were compared with 559 adult patients who had locking loop insertions at the same institutions from 2011 to 2014. Minor and major complications were higher for the balloon-retention tubes for both BRG (minor: 40.8% vs 4.7%, p < 0.001; major: 1.4% vs 1.2%, p = 0.891) and BRGJ tubes (minor: 80.9% vs 11.8%, p < 0.001; major: 12.8% vs 1.7%, p < 0.001). Complications were lowest with two gastropexy anchors and highest with three anchors. The 12-F and 14-F balloon-retention tubes had similar complication rates. Although not statistically significant, the balloon-retention tubes were associated with higher procedure-related deaths (1.7% vs 0.7%, p = 0.300) and all-cause mortality (9.3% vs 5.9%, p = 0.171). Conclusion Percutaneous BRG or BRGJ tubes had significantly higher 30-day complication rates. There was no significant difference in the 30-day mortality rate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this regard, radiology plays a crucial role, acting as the eyes of physicians. In contrast, interventional radiology serves as its hands, acting as one of the most effective drug delivery systems. Among interventional radiology disciplines, arterial drug delivery through arteries holds paramount importance as organs primarily receive nourishment directly from them. Furthermore, regenerative medicine is a burgeoning field dedicated to repairing diverse body tissues without relying on pharmaceutical drugs. Stem cells, inherent in various parts of our bodies, are vital for tissue regeneration and reconstruction. Depending on the treatment approach, stem cells can be sourced from the patient's body (autologous) or another individual (allogeneic). There exist various types of stem cells across species, with regenerative properties observed in animals and even plants. However, targeted cell therapy is preferred over systematic injections throughout the body for better efficacy. This article aims to familiarize interventionalists with stem cells and provide them with a clear and helpful explanation of their functions, mechanisms of action, different sources, and other relevant aspects. This will help them select the most appropriate cells for their therapeutic purposes. By comprehensively understanding the significance of stem cells in interventional radiology, we can implement optimal methodologies to address diverse medical conditions efficiently. Purpose The aim of this study was to evaluate the differences in antithrombotic therapy policies for inferior vena cava (IVC) stent placement among institutions and interventional radiologists in Japan. Materials and Methods The cross-sectional online-based questionnaire was conducted between December 2022 and January 2023, and a total of 114 institutions were included in this study. The questionnaire contained eight questions that were grouped into three sections: (1) whether IVC stents have been performed or not, (2) the number of IVC stent placements, and (3) the basic strategy of antithrombotic therapy for pre-, intra-, and post-IVC stent placement. Results Of the 114 institutions, 38 responses (33%) were collected. Twenty-four of the 38 institutions (63%) had performed IVC stent placement during the study period. The mean number of IVC stent placements during the study period was 3.4 cases per institution. The most frequently selected antithrombotic therapeutic strategies pre-, intra-, and post-stenting were no antithrombotic therapy (62.5%), anticoagulation therapy (54.2%), and no antithrombotic therapy (41.7%). Conclusion This study has revealed there is no consensus regarding antithrombotic therapy for IVC stent placement in Japan. The results of this study may contribute to our understanding of the status of antithrombotic therapy for IVC stent placement. The increasing integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare, particularly in vascular and interventional radiology (VIR), has opened avenues for enhanced efficiency and precision. This narrative review delves into the potential applications of large language models (LLMs) in VIR, with a focus on Chat Generative Pre-Trained Transformer (ChatGPT) and similar models. LLMs, designed for natural language processing, exhibit promising capabilities in clinical decision-making, workflow optimization, education, and patient-centered care. The discussion highlights LLMs' ability to analyze extensive medical literature, aiding radiologists in making informed decisions. Moreover, their role in improving clinical workflow, automating report generation, and intelligent patient scheduling is explored. This article also examines LLMs' impact on VIR education, presenting them as valuable tools for trainees. Additionally, the integration of LLMs into patient education processes is examined, highlighting their potential to enhance patient-centered care through simplified and accurate medical information dissemination. Despite these potentials, this paper discusses challenges and ethical considerations, including AI over-reliance, potential misinformation, and biases. The scarcity of comprehensive VIR datasets and the need for ongoing monitoring and interdisciplinary collaboration are also emphasized. Advocating for a balanced approach, the combination of LLMs with computer vision AI models addresses the inherently visual nature of VIR. Overall, while the widespread implementation of LLMs in VIR may be premature, their potential to improve various aspects of the discipline is undeniable. PURPOSE To evaluate the efficacy of interventional radiological (IR) procedures in iatrogenic urinary tract injury and investigate the factors affecting the outcome. METHODS Fifty-eight patients (21 male) with a mean age of 50.3 ± 15.8 years referred for iatrogenic urinary tract injury were enrolled in this study. Technical success was defined as (i) successful placement of a nephrostomy catheter within the renal pelvis and/or (ii) successful antegrade ureteral stent placement (double J stent) between the renal pelvis and bladder lumen. Complete resolution was defined as maintained ureteral patency without an external drain and ureteral stent. The factors that may affect complete resolution [ureteral avulsion, ureterovaginal fistula (UVF), history of malignancy/ radiotherapy, and time to IR management] were also investigated. The receiver operating characteristic analysis was performed to estimate the cut-off time point for the IR management timing affecting complete resolution. RESULTS The technical success rate for nephrostomy and ureteral stent placement was 100% (n = 58/58) and 78% (n = 28/36), respectively. In 14 patients, non-dilated pelvicalyceal systems were evident. In 18 patients, no further intervention after percutaneous nephrostomy was performed due to (i) poor performance status (n = 6) and (ii) reconstruction surgery upon clinicians' and/or patients' request (n = 12). Reconstruction surgery was required in 11 of the remaining 40 patients due to failure of percutaneous treatment (n = 11/40, 27.5%). In six of the patients, ureteral stents could not be removed due to the development of benign ureteral strictures (n = 6/40, 15%). Our complete resolution rate was 57.5% (n = 23/40). Age, gender, type of surgery (endoscopic or open), side and location of the injury did not statistically affect the complete resolution rate. The presence of ureteral avulsion, history of malignancy and radiotherapy individually or in combination significantly affected the complete resolution rate negatively. The presence of UVF also had a negative effect on the complete resolution rate; however, it did not reach statistical significance. Delayed intervention was also a significant factor related to lower complete resolution. The optimal cut-off point of the time interval for favorable clinical outcome was found to be 0--19th day following the surgery. CONCLUSION IR procedures are safe and effective in the management of iatrogenic urinary tract injuries. Antegrade ureteral stenting should be performed as soon as possible to establish ureteral integrity without the development of stricture. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: To assess effectiveness on pain, quality of life and late adverse events of percutaneous fixation with internal cemented screw (FICS) among patients with iliac lytic bone metastases with or without pathological fractures. Materials and Methods: This retrospective exploratory study analyzed FICS procedures on iliac osteolytic bone lesions with and without pathological fracture performed from July 2019 to January 2022 in one tertiary level university hospital. The procedure were performed under general anesthesia, and were CT and fluoroscopically guided. Numerical Pain Rate Score (NPRS), mean EuroQol visual analogue scale (EQ VAS), morphine consumption, walking ability, walking perimeter and presence of walking aids and the appearance of complications were evaluated. Results: Nineteen procedures among 18 patients were carried out with a mean follow up time of 243.3 ± 243.2 days. The mean of the maximum NPRS decreased from 8.4 ± 1.3 to 2.2 ± 3.1 at 1 month (p < 0.01) and remained between 1.3 and 4.1 during a follow-up consultation period of 3–24 months. The mean EQ VAS rose from 42.0 ± 12.5 to 57.3 ± 13.9 at 1 month (p < 0.01) follow-up and remained between 55.8 and 62.5 thereafter. No patient scores returned to pre-procedure levels during follow-up. Mean morphine use decreased from 111.1 ± 118.1 to 57.8 ± 70.3 mg/d at 1 month (p > 0.05) follow-up. No late adverse events were reported. Conclusion: Percutaneous FICS is a safe procedure with fast and long-standing effect on pain, mobility and quality of life. Purpose: Augmented reality (AR) is an innovative approach that could assist percutaneous procedures; by directly seeing "through" a phantom, targeting a lesion might be more intuitive than using ultrasound (US). The objective of this study was to compare the performance of experienced interventional radiologists and operators untrained in soft tissue lesion puncture using AR guidance and standard US guidance. Material and Methods: Three trained interventional radiologists with 5–10 years of experience and three untrained operators performed punctures of five targets in an abdominal phantom, with US guidance and AR guidance. Correct targeting, accuracy (defined as the Euclidean distance between the tip and the center of the target), planning time, and puncture time were documented. Results: Accuracy was higher for the trained group than the untrained group using US guidance (1 mm versus 4 mm, p = 0.001), but not when using AR guidance (4 mm vs. 4 mm, p = 0.76). All operators combined, no significant difference was found concerning accuracy between US and AR guidance (2 mm vs. 4 mm, p = 0.09), but planning time and puncture time were significantly shorter using AR (respectively, 15.1 s vs. 74 s, p < 0.001; 16.1 s vs. 59 s; p < 0.001). Conclusion: Untrained and trained operators obtained comparable accuracy in percutaneous punctures when using AR guidance whereas US performance was better in the experienced group. All operators together, accuracy was similar between US and AR guidance, but shorter planning time, puncture time were found for AR guidance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
