Purpose of study: The effectiveness of organizational capabilities as a method for enhancing the functioning of the organizational immune system was investigated in this research. Methodology: A field research was carried out at an Iraqi insurance business with (150) personnel. This study was utilized to evaluate and answer all of the research questions using a quantitative method. Then, using hierarchical regression analysis with SPSS as an analysis tool, hypotheses for direct effects are tested(127) surveys valid for analysis. Result: According to the findings, there is a link between organizational capabilities and organizational immune system functions in the research community. Recommendations: The management of the Iraqi insurance company should pay attention to increasing employee training programs through training workshops related to the topics of the organization and organizational behavior, including organizational capabilities and the functions of the organizational immune system. The purpose of the article is to reveal conceptual frameworks for further development of the banking and insurance interaction in order to ensure the growth of the value of banking and insurance business on account of the more effective use of their potentials and opportunities. It is noted in the article that banking and insurance interaction is manifested as the provision of insurance services through banking institutions – Banсassurance, the provision of banking services through insurance companies – Assurbanking, the provision of integrated services within financial conglomerates – Allfinanz. In the course of the research, it was determined that the banking channel for the sale of insurance services is the most efficient, and Bancassurance is a system of insurance services sale through the extensive banking network. The necessity and importance of the Bancassurance development, which is actively used in all developed countries, but differs in scale, methods, organizational forms and final financial results, is revealed. This is especially relevant in the context of reforming the regulatory bodies of the state financial market. Within the study, the advantages and disadvantages of Bancassurance and the prerequisites for its development are revealed. Particular attention is paid to the requirements to insurance companies in the process of the Bancassurance implementation. It is noted within the article that the interaction of banks and insurance companies can be carried out at different levels, from the level of the cooperation agreement, agency agreement, banking and insurance cooperation, to the level of the corporate control through the mechanism of mergers and acquisitions and financial supermarket. We provide evidence that commercial banks extend their reputation in underwriting syndicated loans and private placements (private debt) to their bond-underwriting activities. In the absence of bond market reputation, private-debt-market reputation enables commercial banks to win underwriting mandates from their loan clients. Furthermore, it allows them to credibly commit to investors against opportunistically using lending information and thereby deliver superior certification benefits in the form of higher issue prices relative to investment-bank underwriters. This paper examines whether insurance business helps in improving the efficiency of the banking sector. The previous literature had shown contradictory results regarding the impact of diversification on banks' performance. On the one hand, past studies argued that banks engaging in a variety of insurance selling activities can benefit from economies of scope, ultimately improving both their performance and market value. On the other hand, diversification could lead to the escalation of agency problems existing between corporate insiders and small shareholders, which would ultimately destroy the value of the firm within the market. This study examined the impact of bancassurance on the efficiency of public sector banks and private sector banks in India for the period 2011-2017. Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) was used to measure the impact of bancassurance on all public sector and private sector banks in India. The results revealed that bancassurance made an impact on the efficiency of the banking sector. An average deviation of 7.28% has been observed between the overall technical efficiency scores without bancassurance income and with bancassurance income. On the path to success, both parts are permanently looking for increased income possibilities and higher level of customer's satisfaction. Those aspects are on researchers agenda in many countries. Academics are providing academic society, as well as business society with the research results on a topic - What are the key factors influencing the development of Bancassurance. The researchers in many countries analyse market-based and operational-based factors determining more successful or less successful performance within the chosen Bancassurance model. Operational-based factors cover corporate closeness, management initiative and corporate governance issues. These factors role becomes critical for Bancassurance implementation especially in the companies with different business cultures. Such companies' transformation takes uneven path from diversity to harmony in banks and insurance company's corporate governance and management excellence. It includes the top level of companies, as well as sales staff philosophy and work with common clients' database. General solution is deeper integration of banks' and insurance companies' top management and main operational processes to be able to sell combined banking-insurance products to their common clients. Aim of this research paper is to investigate the role of management team in development of Bancassurance in Latvia. Research tasks are: 1. analyse scientific findings in scientific publications and previous conducted research on the Bancassurance development factors; 2. investigate Company Strategic factor influence on Bancassurance development in Latvia; 3. compare differences of representatives of financial market experts and representatives of banks on factors influencing Bancassurance in Latvia; and 4. test proposition: "Management closeness determines successful partnership and enlarges integration possibility of banks and insurance companies in Bancassurance". Research methods used: analysis of scientific publications, analysis of previous conducted research, expert survey, case studies analysis. To test the proposition two types of units have been analysed: total system units - financial institutions, regulatory agencies, financial market experts; and intermediate units - management representatives of three largest banks in Latvia. The primary data collection type was semi-structured interviews to collect qualitative information on management involvement, partnership nature and integration initiative issues. Experts confirmed that for Bancassurance to work successfully and for the insurer to deliver the best fitting solution, the insurer had to understand very well the processes of the bank and how to successfully integrate insurance in these processes, subordinating them to the strategy and chosen customer segment of the bank. Partner companies' management's common decision and closeness are the core elements to determine insurance implementation in the banking routine. Experts emphasise the factor of mutual interdependence and interest in the common results. The key is the overall goal and results to be achieved. The success of incorporation of insurance products depends on a character of partnership between the bank and the insurer carried out by teams. Effective teamwork depends on management style, types of personalities, interpersonal relationship and gender diversity. Therefore, the significance of Bancassurance partners' management closeness in successful partnership, which also enlarges integration possibility between the companies, has been approved. For Bancassurers this finding highlights the importance of interpersonal relationship in business success. It provides the necessity to create the cooperation management framework between the bank and insurance company and maintain on every level of companies' structures through all Bancassurance life circles in the company. We model reputation acquisition by investment banks in the equity market. Entrepreneurs sell shares in an asymmetrically informed equity market, either directly, or using an investment bank. Investment banks, who interact repeatedly with the equity market, evaluate entrepreneurs' projects and report to investors, in return for a fee. Setting strict evaluation standards (unobservable to investors) is costly for investment banks, inducing moral hazard. Investment banks' credibility therefore depends on their equity-marketing history. Investment banks' evaluation standards, their reputations, underwriter compensation, the market value of equity sold, and entrepreneurs' choice between underwritten and nonunderwritten equity issues emerge endogenously. We examine the optimal design of a risk-adjusted deposit insurance scheme when the regulator has less information than the bank about the inherent risk of the bank's assets (adverse selection), and when the regulator is unable to monitor the extent to which bank resources are being directed away from normal operations toward activities that lower asset quality (moral hazard). Under a socially optimal insurance scheme: (1) asset quality is below the first-best level, (2) higher-quality banks have larger asset bases and face lower capital adequacy requirements than lower-quality banks, and (3) the probability of failure is equated across banks. This article elaborates the perspective and quality of bank services between private and state-owned bank companies in Indonesia. The empirical result shows that consumers' perspectives on service quality remain constant and has big influence on the banks' performances. There are no changes for knowledge aspect from consumer. After product knowledge explanation to consumer, inconveniences of consumer reduce significantly for positive perspective. In addition, tools of marketing effect are documented, two factors have contributed to the process. Repeated information and language simplicity shows negative relation with consumer perspective. The article attempts to understand the issues and challenges faced by the banking sector in implementing the bancassurance business model by using interviewbased methodology. The study includes the challenges faced by supply side, that is, the banks or insurance's perspective. Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) signifies the proportion of capital funds of banks in relation to Risk Weighted Assets (RWAs). Bank assets carry risk of delinquency depending upon the nature and volume of assets. Any loss arising from failure of assets has to be borne by capital funds. The capital must, therefore, bear prescribed ratio in relation to risk assessed assets in order to meet regulatory norms. RWAs constitute the risk profile of bank's assets portfolio. The ratio of RWAs to total asset exposure provides a measure of riskiness of assets. The ratio has come to be known as RWA density and its variance from year to year indicates change in risk profile of asset portfolio of the bank. An increase in RWA density over a period shows that overall risk profile of bank assets has deteriorated. This may arise due to asset with higher risk weight substituting lower risk assets, without any change in risk weight factors. Similarly, a decrease in RWA density of bank would indicate that risk quality of assets has improved. As an emergence of global insurers has raised the issue of the placement of insurance services, innovations related to the placement of insurance services will be the subject of this paper. However, the success of the placement of services is dependent upon the fulfilment of the following preconditions: the service is of great quality; it is adequately distributed - available, its price - the insurance premium - suits the quality and is competitive; the service is presented to customers in a quality manner, while the sales personnel is highly motivated to do their job. A general methodology for modeling loss data depending on covariates is developed. The parameters of the frequency and severity distributions of the losses may depend on covariates. The loss frequency over time is modeled with a nonhomogeneous Poisson process with rate function depending on the covariates. This corresponds to a generalized additive model, which can be estimated with spline smoothing via penalized maximum likelihood estimation. The loss severity over time is modeled with a nonstationary generalized Pareto distribution (alternatively, a generalized extreme value distribution) depending on the covariates. Since spline smoothing cannot directly be applied in this case, an efficient algorithm based on orthogonal parameters is suggested. The methodology is applied both to simulated loss data and a database of operational risk losses collected from public media. Estimates, including confidence intervals, for risk measures such as Value-at-Risk as required by the Basel II/III framework are computed. Many assume that in the short run, annuity prices promptly and efficiently respond to changes in interest rates. Using a unique database of quotes, we show this is not the case. Prices are less sensitive to changes in rates than expected, and responses are asymmetric. Prices react more rapidly and with greater sensitivity to an increase than to a decrease in rates. The results are robust, but there is a small degree of heterogeneity in the responses of different insurance companies. When rates increase, larger firms are slightly quicker to improve prices. The opposite is true when rates decline. In sum, we show that the microstructure of annuity dynamics is more complicated than (simply) adding mortality credits to bond yields. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article addresses challenges of estimating operational risk regulatory capital when a loss sample is truncated from below at a data collection threshold. Recent operational risk literature reports that the attempts to estimate loss distributions by the maximum likelihood method are not always successful under the truncation approach that accounts for the existence of censored losses-the likelihood surface is sometimes ascending with no global solution. The literature offers an alternative called the shifting approach, which estimates the loss distribution without taking into account censored losses. We present a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of the global solution to the likelihood maximization problem under the truncation approach when the true loss distribution is lognormal, and derive a practically explicit expression for the global solution. We show by a simulation study that, as the sample size increases, the capital bias by the truncation approach declines while the bias by the shifting approach does not. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We investigate the impact of domestic/international bancassurance deals on the risk-return profiles of announcing and nonannouncing banks and insurers within a GARCH model. Bank-insurance deals produce intra- and interindustry contagion in both risk and return, with larger deals producing greater contagion. Bidder banks and peers experience positive abnormal returns, with the effects on insurer peers being stronger than those on bank peers. Insurance-bank deals produce insignificant excess returns for bidder and peer insurers and positive valuations for peer banks. Following the deal, the bank bidders' idiosyncratic (systematic) risk falls (increases), while insurance bidders exhibit a lower systematic risk and maintain their idiosyncratic risk. Reputation risk is becoming increasingly important, especially with the rapidly growing influence of social media, heightened scrutiny on reputation risk by banking and insurance regulators, and reputation's impact on organizational value. Insurers have responded to this development only recently by offering new reputation risk insurance solutions. The aim of this article is to present the first detailed academic analysis of these new insurance policies, including examination of the risks insurers face in offering such coverage. We also offer a conceptualization of reputation risk in an insurance and risk management context with focus on exposures, perils, and hazards. Our analysis indicates that loss identification and measurement generate the greatest challenges to insurers in providing reputation risk coverage. Lack of experience as well as the complexity of the chain of reputation risk events related to reputation insurance coverage present insurers with significant challenges in making this a viable line of business. Bancassurance is getting more momentum and broader proportions in Southeast European countries. But in most of these countries, an appropriate legislation that regulates bancassurance is missing. This paper covers statistic data as an indicator for the development of bancassurance in Southeast European countries, as well as existing legislation regulating this issue, and through comparative analysis of the situation in the EU member states an effort has been made to identify the need for additional regulation of bancassurance in Southeast European countries. Deregulation, globalization of insurance institutions, intensified competition, electronic commerce, bancassurance and the emergence of new risks are among the challenges faced by insurance markets. This is forcing the insurers and financial houses to rethink their marketing strategy, moving from traditional brand-based strategy to Customer Equity (CE) (Blattberg et al., 2001). The paper discusses the importance of CE as a marketing strategy, and an attempt is made to demonstrate the impact of advanced analytics on CE strategy through crosssell by targeting the right customers with the right products. This attempt is a deviation from traditional segmentation approach. It has been proved beyond doubt that advanced analytics can help insurers in strategizing and creating profitable target base using analytics approaches. The paper attempts to develop models, product group-wise, to capture the aforesaid differences and apply the patterns learned from one product group on other product groups to maximize the chances of cross-sell.
