The overarching goal of this design-based research was to explore WhatsApp's potential for facilitating and supporting speaking and pronunciation instruction in an EFL large-class speaking course. More specifically, this paper explored the perceived learning outcomes of WhatsApp-supported pedagogy in large English-speaking classes. Ninety-nine English students practiced their English by recording themselves, listening to the recordings, and comparing their recordings to native speakers' pronunciation. When satisfied with the quality, they sent their own recordings to a five-member WhatsApp group made up of their classmates. The recordings involved speed reading, singing a song or reading the lyrics aloud, tongue twisters, and making a video summary. Students listened to the recordings of the other four group members and provided feedback on pronunciation. The data were collected via an open-ended survey and individual and focus-group interviews. Qualitative content analysis of the data indicated that the vast majority of the participants reacted positively and mentioned the following major contributions to large speaking classes: (1) educational affordances for pronunciation, speaking, motivation, vocabulary, and reading; and (2) technological affordances, i.e. ease of use and accessibility. The adopted approach supported speaking and pronunciation instruction, specifically through instructor and peer feedback, speed reading, and ease of access. Objectives: Codeine, a prodrug used as an opioid agonist, is metabolized to the active product morphine by CYP2D6. This study aimed to establish physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) models of codeine and morphine and explore the influence of CYP2D6 genetic polymorphisms on the pharmacokinetics of codeine and morphine. Methods: An initial PBPK modeling of codeine in healthy adults was established using PK-Sim® software and subsequently extrapolated to CYP2D6 phenotyperelated PBPK modeling based on the turnover frequency (Kcat) of CYP2D6 for different phenotype populations (UM, EM, IM, and PM). The mean fold error (MFE) and geometric mean fold error (GMFE) methods were used to compare the differences between the predicted and observed values of the pharmacokinetic parameters to evaluate the accuracy of PBPK modeling. The validated models were then used to support dose safety for different CYP2D6 phenotypes. Results: The developed and validated CYP2D6 phenotype-related PBPK model successfully predicted codeine and morphine dispositions in different CYP2D6 phenotypes. Compared with EMs, the predicted AUC0-8 value of morphine was 98.6% lower in PMs, 60.84% lower in IMs, and 73.43% higher in UMs. Morphine plasma exposure in IMs administered 80 mg of codeine was roughly comparable to that in EMs administered 30 mg of codeine. CYP2D6 UMs may start dose titration to achieve an optimal individual regimen and avoid a single dose of over 20 mg. Codeine should not be used in PMs for pain relief, considering its insufficient efficacy. Conclusion: PBPK modeling can be applied to explore the dosing safety of codeine and can be helpful in predicting the effect of CYP2D6 genetic polymorphisms on drug-drug interactions (DDIs) with codeine in the future. This paper aims to understand the practices and meanings associated with the creation and use of private chat groups on instant messaging services such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Messenger and WeChat that are accessible only to platform workers of online food delivery services. We draw on participant observation in five countries (Italy, Spain, Mexico, China, and India), in-depth interviews with 68 food delivery couriers and digital ethnography (Pink et al., 2015) within dozens of online private chat groups of food delivery workers. Our fieldwork shows that private chat groups are extremely relevant in the daily work of delivery workers and are appropriated to restore forms of mutualism not afforded by the food delivery apps. Following Costa (2018) and her concept of affordances- in-practice, we describe how the practice of online private chat groups created by platform workers affords: (1) the emergence of communities of practice; (2) resistance and contempt; (3) mutualism and solidarity. We argue that these workers 'enact' the affordances of instant messaging apps, to supplement – from below – the affordances of food delivery apps that were denied or ignored by food delivery companies. We argue that these affordances constitute cooperative affordances. This concept captures the cooperative nature of peer-to-peer communication that occurs within the informal online chat groups created by the workers themselves. Finally, this article contributes to affordance theory by highlighting how affordances are not immanent properties of artifacts, or 'invariants', as argued by Gibson (1979) , but can be 'enacted' by specific users, like food delivery workers, within specific social and cultural contexts. Focusing on the past four years, the review meticulously dissects cutting-edge advancements in this domain. A significant insight emerges: achieving optimal communication security necessitates the synergistic convergence of three fundamental techniques: end-to-end encryption for data confidentiality, decentralized authentication for independent user verification, and zero-knowledge proof for identity obscurity. The review postulates that the simultaneous integration of these elements within the application architecture is paramount for robust privacy and heightened security in the realm of IM. A growing number of people use mobile instant messaging (MIM) apps for a variety of purposes—most commonly related to social interaction, but also to coordinate work-related activities, fulfill informational needs, and discuss politics and public affairs. Despite its convenience for daily life, MIM may also act as an environmental antecedent of technostress due to users' inability to cope with the demands of the app in a healthy manner. We conducted two qualitative studies (N1 = 26; N2 = 147) to examine why people use MIM apps in their daily life and if diverse uses relate to MIM stress differently. This research (1) develops a general catalogue of MIM uses; (2) suggests a four-dimensional construct of MIM technostress consisting of overload, ambiguity, invasion, and urgency; (3) outlines several differences across age groups and between genders; and (4) describes possible relationships between MIM uses and stress. Within endurance sports (ES), a practice exists in which online remote coaching (RC) is a necessary construct. This study aimed to examine the processes of ES coaches to gain insight into the experiences of coaches engaging in RC before COVID-19 forced others to do the same. To achieve this aim, semistructured interviews were conducted with ES coaches (N = 7; M = 6, F = 1). Transcripts were subject to thematic analysis, with three dimensions (a) remote coach and ES, (b) process of remote coaching, and (c) delivery of training online being identified. An additional 17 higher and 79 lower order themes were found. Results found that to be effective online, ES coaches utilised technology such as instant messaging and online software to increase presence and decrease the perceived distance from athletes. They aimed to create autonomous athletes both by choice and by necessity. The ease of access through technology had a negative and positive impact on work–life balance. A process was developed whereby only technology that served a purpose to further athlete outcomes was used and balanced with subjective feedback. Abstract Background Preoperative analgesia of hip fracture in elderly patients is important, but it is also lacking. In particular, nerve block was not provided in time. In order to provide more effective analgesia, we designed a multimodal pain management mode based on instant messaging software. Methods From May to September 2022, a total of 100 patients with unilateral hip fracture aged over 65 were randomly divided into the test group and the control group. Finally, 44 patients in each group completed the result analysis. A new pain management mode was used in the test group. This mode focuses on the full information exchange between medical personnel in different departments, early fascia iliaca compartment block (FICB), and closed-loop pain management. Outcomes include the time when FICB is completed for the first time; The number of cases of FICB completed by emergency doctors; Patients' pain score, pain duration. Results The time for patients in the test group to complete FICB for the first time was 3.0 [1.925–3.475] h, which was less than the time for patients in the control group (4.0 [3.300–5.275] h). The difference was statistically significant (P 3 time (35.00 [20.00–45.00] mins vs 72.50 [60.00–45.00] mins). The analgesic satisfaction of patients in the test group (5.00 [4.00–5.00]) was also significantly higher than that of the control group (3.00 [3.00–4.00]). Water level monitoring has long been an important task for farmers. Because weather conditions can change quickly, farmers have often checked that the water levels of their crops were ideal for good growing conditions. Farmers would benefit from developing a simple device to determine the water level of crops at any time. This research designs a noncontact water level detection system, including a data acquisition system, a data management monitoring system, and an instant messenger. In the data acquisition system, a digital water gauge is designed, mainly using image recognition technology to identify the water level in a barrel. Our research shows that using a black dot with a diameter of 1 cm as the water gauge scale can achieve 100% recognition results at a distance of 110 cm. Considering that applying a contactless water level detection system (CWLDS) in agriculture is a fixed measurement method and an external light source is supported, 100% identification can be obtained, and the operation cost of a CWLDS can be reduced without an additional machine learning technique. To effectively reduce the transmission cost, the reading part of the digital water gauge is divided into single-barrel and multi-barrel parts. The water level information is sent to a management center through a narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) transmission module. This system provides a well-structured and systematic approach to the problem of measuring water levels in pickling barrels. Through the data management monitoring system, the collected water level of each object is matched with a database in the host to determine whether the water level is abnormal. The system can provide immediate alerts to relevant personnel by using popular instant messaging software that transmits abnormal water level information to farmers.

Colocated software development teams benefit from natural work context building, which occurs mainly thanks to the team members, virtually, being forced to listen to what others are talking about. They absorb the information not by directing their attention to the communication, but by being exposed to it and perceiving it peripherally. The same effect of peripheral perception can be enforced with instant messaging, which is a predominant way of communication in distributed teams. However, forcing team members to observe too many and mostly unrelated message notifications can be distracting and causing unnecessary work interruption. This paper presents an approach and tool that ensure peripheral perception in instant messaging constrained by a continuously extracted work context. This is achieved by maintaining a personal work context from developer activities and using this context to filter instant messages to be displayed. A four-week experiment carried out with one of the teams of seven members in the Team Project course at our university indicates that message filtering based on continuous work context extraction performs better over common channel based filtering (as available in Slack).
