In response to the practical demands for data sharing and exchange in the field of rack railway systems engineering, as well as to address the gaps in the rack railway domain within the framework of the IFC4 standard, we extend and define the rack railway domain through entity extension and custom attribute sets. By utilizing the ongoing construction of the Dujiangyan to Mount Siguniang Railway as a case study, we validate the utility of this IFC extension and modeling approach. Leveraging IfcOpenShell, we incorporate the extended data content into the generated IFC file. We present a process for extension tailored to the characteristics of rack railway engineering. This study aims to provide broader information support for the digital construction of track structures in the design phase of rack railway engineering and to facilitate more efficient data exchange and sharing. Open Building Information Modelling (OpenBIM) is a collaborative project management process. Its application to road infrastructures is currently limited. OpenBIM standards for infrastructure are still under development. One of these standards is the Industry Foundation Classes (IFC), which is a data architecture for modelling infrastructure projects. The current and upcoming releases of IFCRoad focus on structuring data for the design and construction phases of an infrastructure’s lifecycle. Semantics of the O&M process phase are not fully integrated within these standards. This paper proposes an extension of the IFC schema to enrich this standard with semantics inherent in the O&M phase of road infrastructures. This extension, based on IFCInfra4OM ontology, allows the OpenBIM process to be fully applied to road infrastructures. Its implementation on a case study relative to the A7 Agadir–Marrakech Highway in Morocco enables, on the one hand, analysis and compliance with O&M management requirements on the basis of a single container: the IFC-BIM-based model. On the other hand, it allows comparison of the OpenBIM process with that of ClosedBIM for the integration of O&M data into BIM for a road infrastructure.

A tunnel data schema employing the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM) is proposed to efficiently manage and exchange the design information of road tunnels between different computer environments. The data schema was developed by extending the Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) used as standards in Building Information Modeling/Model (BIM) projects. The design guidelines and tunnel drawings were analyzed in order to apply the design information of the NATM road tunnels. From the analysis results, the applicable IFC elements were identified through a comparative analysis with the existing IFC data schema, and new items were defined for the additional necessary elements. The newly defined elements were classified into the parts representing the information of the space occupied by the tunnel and that representing the information on components such as shotcrete, steel ribs, and concrete linings. The applicability of the developed schema was examined by using it to construct an experimental environment, in which information modeling was possible. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The BIM modeling of Multi-Component Subgrade in a Railway Station (MCSRS) suffers from an inefficient manual approach due to its specific features and absence of a data standard. The Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) has been widely used for describing various components in the building industry while its current version fails to depict an MCSRS. In this study, the IFC is extended to describe the geometric information and hierarchy for an MCSRS, based on which an automatic workflow for converting the original design data to the corresponding 3D BIM model complying with IFC standard is developed. To validate the methodology, a real-world case is used for testing the modeling result, in which several different modeling cases between two cross-sections are examined. The results show that the BIM modeling for an MCSRS is greatly accelerated compared with the manual modeling approach and can be used as a cross-platform tool. • A principle for modeling multi-component subgrades in a railway station is proposed. • An ontology is defined to semantically describe the multi-component subgrade in a railway station. • The latest IFC standard is enriched based on the classes and properties defined in the ontology. • A modeling workflow is developed to generate an IFC data file and import the data file to create the BIM model. • A real-world railway station is used for performing case study. Building Information Modeling (BIM)-based finite element analysis is challenging owing to inefficiencies, such as the manual meshing/remeshing process performed by experts and excessive analysis-related information due to different input points and result nodes. To overcome these limitations, we proposed a new analysis framework that integrates the meshfree analysis method into the Industry Foundation Classes (IFC)-based bridge model. We added the IFC entities to manage information for the bridge structures and meshfree analysis based on the IFC extension concept. We developed modules for generating the bridge model based on the proposed schema. The data required for meshfree analysis were presented through the extraction and conversion process from the IFC model. Finally, the proposed framework was applied to the stress analysis of the bridge structure to demonstrate the efficiency of the method.
