Abstract: I provide a theory of the metaphysical foundations of identity: an account of what grounds facts of the form $$a=b$$ a = b . In particular, I defend the claim that indiscernibility grounds identity. This is typically rejected because it is viciously circular; plausible assumptions about the logic of ground entail that the fact that $$a=b$$ a = b partially grounds itself. The theory I defend is immune to this circularity.

Starting from the broad issue of the three identifications in Freud's work, the author traverses the last period of Lacan's work, especially the "RSI", "Le Sinthome" and "L'insu que sait de l'une-bévue s'aile a mourre" seminars, in search of possible articulations and differences between the three Freudian identifications, the fourth identification to the symptom and the consequent invention of the sinthome, as a proposal for the end of an analysis. By using of the unfolding of the topological figure of the torus, besides the whole logic of incorporation of the identification process which it comprises, he aims to demonstrate that the identification of the end of an analysis dodges the common logic of the identifications that are based on the incorporation of the Other's (A) significants. The identification of the symptom and the invention of the sinthome enable the parlêtre something unprecedented that escapes the Other's (A) field, reaching further than the unconscious. The aim of this article is to state the importance of sociability and circulation through territory by children in relation to certain apprenticeships related to the progressive development of abilities, skills and knowledge necessary for the future production and social reproduction and the construction of social identifications. Following this aim I will focus on the ethnographic analysis of the daily practices of a group of children mbya and criollos in Misiones, Argentina. I will consider the ethnic question and focus on the appropriation of the division between relatives and non-relatives that occurs among the first years of life.

This brief note proposes a new identification for a fragment of one of the Psalm manuscripts from Qumran. On the basis of material conditions—but above all else, the distinctive paleography of the script—4Q98c (4QP st) should be considered as part of the same manuscript known as 4Q85 (4QP sc). If this identification is correct, the latter now contains material known from the second half of the (proto-)MT Psalter, increasing the plausibility that it once contained the entire book of Psalms. The phase transformation model is the subject of this article capable of evaluating the hardenability of various bainitic steels. The objective is to provide a tool, which will help to design the chemical composition of steels with enhanced bainitic hardenability. Three general indexes, which are based on the relation between bainite volume fraction and cooling rate, and which characterize the hardenability, are proposed. Calculations of these hardenability indexes are presented for low‐carbon steels with different chemical compositions. Correlation between the chemistry and the hardenability factors is evaluated. Following this, an industrial process of cooling of wire rods is simulated for the steel with hardenability indexes adjusted to the cooling capabilities of Stelmor system. The cooling conditions, which give a favorable multiphase microstructure of wire rod for cold heading applications, are designed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This note aims to problematize quantitative research on religious-spiritual identifications in Argentina, and the consequences that this has over the social imaginary on the religious composition of the country. To do so, we will investigate the ways in which questions about identities, beliefs and practices are posed, and their consequences in constructing this information. The work is based on a bibliographical review of the subject and on the analysis of pre-existing surveys in order to identify gaps and possible contributions to new quantitative research. The ego and the id is considered the last of Freud's great theoretical works, in which he brings us a new model of the mental apparatus, whose bases can be traced back to the Project for a Psychology for Neurologists (1895). The change in the model of the mental apparatus is preceded by the change in drive theory (Beyond the pleasure principle, 1920). There are two kinds of drives: life or Eros and death or Thanatos. This new theoretical basis has as consequences the revision of concepts and their expansion, giving rise to thinking about normal and pathological mental functioning from a broader perspective. The aim of this study is to contribute knowledge about the politics of belonging that is embedded in the educational practice of early childhood institutions in Sweden, with the focus on children's doing of belonging. The research questions are: What appears as important aspects for belonging in everyday children's interactions in the ECE practice? How are positions and borders for belonging negotiated, produced, and reproduced among the children? Yuval-Davis's [(2011). Thepolitics of belonging: Intersectional contestations. London: Sage] theory about the politics of belonging is used as a framework. Data consists of 13 h of video-film of interactions among children at two Swedish ECE institutions. The findings show how the doing of belonging involves an ongoing positioning process among the children, and how the borders for being inside or outside the community are continually constructed and reconstructed. In the big data background, data privacy becomes more and more important when data leakage and other security events occur more frequently. As one of the key means of privacy protection, anonymous communication attracts large attention. Aiming at the problems such as low efficiency of message forwarding, high communication delay and abusing of anonymity, this paper presents an identity-based traceable anonymous communication model by adding a preprocessing phase, modifying the ciphertext structure and increasing the controllability of anonymity. Firstly, a new identity-based signature algorithm is proposed, and its security is proved via existential unforgeability against chosen-message attacks (EU-CMA). The signature algorithm is further applied to the anonymous communication model to implement the controllability of revocable anonymity. Secondly, by adding a preprocessing Setup phase, the operations of identifications distribution and user authentication are launched before the anonymous communication phase starts, and this practice significantly improves the efficiency of the anonymous communication model. Finally, by adding the hash value of the message and the user identification as the message authentication code, we design a new ciphertext structure, which can efficiently guarantee the integrity of the ciphertext. Performance analysis and simulation results show that the proposed anonymous communication model has high message forwarding efficiency and better security and controllability of anonymity. This article analyzes the topic of identifications in Ernesto Laclau's theory of hegemony, focusing on the crosses between the leader and the function of Lacan's object a. Based on a reading of On populist reason, the paper proposes an innovative typology with three modes of social identification for discourse analysis: direct identification with the political leader; indirect identification around the leader mediated through a partial object that becomes an empty signifier and function by a nodal point; and the identification with certain values, principles, demands or shared ideals by the group or organization that function as objects cause of desire. In the second part, it deploys some useful theoretical-methodological tools to deepen and strengthen the social investigation of contemporary sociopolitical identities and processes from the political theory of discourse. In the article I am interested in the ways that Africanness (as a representation of and identification with African culture) is musically performed in Slovenia. Africanness is being publicly represented either by African diaspora that is negotiating their ethnic identifications through culture or non-Africans that have established connections with African culture for various reasons. The article illustrates in which cases music offers a space of safety and self-identification, a place of fascination, aesthetic expression or cultural growth and enrichment.

The aim of this paper is to analyze the collective identifications of the pampean agricultural actors (Argentina), paying attention to the influence of the agribusiness discourse in them. From an approach that understands that identity processes are constructed from relationships of difference with others, these identifications are studied in a relational manner addressing the representations that agricultural actors have about otherness. With this objective, we analyse a corpus of 42 semi-structured interviews carried out between the years 2016 and 201842 in two counties of the province of Buenos with different socioproductive characteristics (Ayacucho and Baradero). From this analysis, we managed to account for the ways in which these actors define themselves as a collective in tension with the agribusiness paradigm companies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Young people belonging to categories and living in areas that are targeted by the police find more arguments for detailed police critique than others. When they narrate their assessments there is a series of experiential references being made, which can be used to sort out their police critique. This article draws on 20 interviews with ethnic minority youth in so-called vulnerable neighborhoods in Sweden. It shows how young people portray the police as sometimes profiling and racist, sometimes just and legitimate, and how they do so by comparisons and identifications. Comparisons within Sweden and identifications with police targets tend to result in more negative assessments whereas comparisons with countries of origin and identifications with non-targeted categories may result in more positive or mixed assessments. These young people also evaluate the police with reference to the stigmatization of their neighborhoods. To be stopped because you are associated with a residential area is described as deeply unfair, even if the police are polite, and observations of how the police change behavior in different areas promote critique. Our findings point to the importance of extending a criteria-based model of how today's young people assess the police with a more social and ethnographic understanding. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Exosomes are intercellular communication vehicles containing cell-specific molecules that can be quantified using different biochemical or biophysical techniques. This paper explores the use of capacitance-voltage electrical measurements for the label-free detection, identification, and quantifications of exosomes. With the application of voltage, an interface effective layer is formed because of the interaction between the exosome surface and its surrounding media. The exosomes store electrical energy when electrically polarized, thus enabling its electrical detection. A specific electrical capacitance-voltage profile is attributed to the precise nature of the respective exosomes, which helps in both identification and quantification. The exosome count is estimated by calculating the impurities inside a defined volume by observing the changes in electrical parameters extracted from the capacitance-voltage measurements. This technique could be applied to count suspended silica and liposomes nanoparticles as well. This approach was found to be faster and less expensive than other existing techniques.

In the article, we examine the ethnic groupness among Sámi reindeer herders in Northwest Finnish Lapland. According to our results, reindeer herders recognize different groupnessess. Sáminess is perceived as an ethnic and often local, family-related groupness. Moreover, Sámi ethnicity is closely bound to the local herding life on the fells, in the cultural landscape of nomadism. Finnishness, on the other hand, involves meanings relating to the state and nation in particular. The interviews provide indications of the general rise of Sámi culture, the long-term influence of Finnish culture and the state and the multidimensional nature of ethnicities in everyday life, that is, an overlapping and richness of ethnicities and identifications. This article discusses rural discourses in the state of Paraná in the mid - 20th century. It analyses the main performative axes of discourses about the people and the land of this state elaborated in articles, essays and speeches of Bento Munhoz da Rocha, between 1951 and 1955, when he ruled the state, as well as in the work "Two reporters in Paraná", which was published under the auspices of his government in 1953. It aims to problematize the subjectivities organized by these discourses, which have created and (dis)qualified characters, articulating them to external constraints - environment, climate, cultural inheritance, psychology - in order to limit the action of these subjects and enabled them (or not) to participate in the construction of the notions of property and ownership in that state. Such narrative axes will be understood as discursive events that are articulated within historicized narratives, that is, narratives that compose regimes of historicities. The main objective is to know how the projects of (re)occupation of large areas of the territory of Paraná were linked to a project of national future and the construction of a different Brazil. "And what do we benefit?": identifications in ethnographic fieldwork with youth gangs in Costa Rica. The article is based on an ethnographic research conducted with cuadrilla (gang) members between 2008 and 2009 in Guararí de Heredia, an urban and popular neighborhood in the Central Valley of Costa Rica (Central America). Two ethnographic anecdotes lived with these young people will serve to raise a discussion about the way these subjects identified me during my fieldwork: I was always an outsider to them, a role that did not preclude ethnographic interaction; that is to say, I decided to keep doing fieldwork with them, despite this strangeness. Summary: Research shows that alcohol has a small and inconsistent effect on eyewitness recall and no effect on witnesses' lineup decisions. Much of this literature has tested participants with low‐to‐moderate blood alcohol concentration (BAC) levels, and no study has directly examined how identification procedure impacts intoxicated witnesses' decisions. In the present study, bar patrons' (N = 132) BAC levels were recorded before participating in a task. Midway through the task, they were interrupted by an intruder. Participants then recalled the incident via a staged interview and attempted to identify the intruder from a target‐present or target‐absent showup or lineup. Although elevated BAC levels (high as 0.24%) reduced the quantity and quality of information provided, BAC had no effect on witnesses' identification decisions regardless of format. Results highlight the importance of testing witness memory across a broad BAC spectrum and provide evidence that alcohol does not affect witnesses' identification ability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article lays out a framework for integrating identifications into securitization theory in order to specifically and systematically illuminate the role that identifications play in determining securitization success and in delimiting effective securitization rhetoric. I outline the framework, its theoretical backing as derived from cognitive, identity, and discourse studies, its potential use, and some empirical findings emerging from its current application. The framework holds that identifications consistently affect audience receptivity to securitization rhetoric, but only in certain circumstances (namely, when identifications are strong and thick) does their precise content restrict the parameters and performative power of effective securitization rhetoric. The framework draws insights from the fields of cognitive science, social psychology, and identity studies, and it emphasises a context-specific approach to securitization studies that inquires into, rather than assumes, local situations. As such, the article aims to inform securitization scholars engaged in a range of studies of how they can incorporate local audiences into their work without imposing a universalist logic of security onto disparate circumstances. For the Pampean agricultural actors the land has been historically considered not only as an economic heritage, but also as symbolic and affective one. In recent decades, the advance of the agribusiness production model questioned the fundamental relationship between subject and land, disarticulating the centrality of the latter as an identity substrate. The discourse disseminated by the defenders of this model in the public sphere re-defines the land as another commodity and addresses the protagonists of production as "the landless". The aim of this paper is to analyze the relevance that the land holds in the identitary constructions of the Pampean agricultural actors and the influence of the agribusiness discourse on those constructions. By considering Stuart Hall's approach of identifications (2003), we analyse a corpus of 42 interviews carried out between the years 2016 and 2018 in two counties of the province of Buenos Aires which present very different agroecological characteristics (Ayacucho and Baradero), and 329 surveys carried out by our research team in 2013 in the same province. Research on alcohol and witness memory has burgeoned over the last decade. However, most studies have tested participants at relatively low breath alcohol concentration (BAC) levels, unrepresentative of those encountered by officers in the field. To examine how higher intoxication levels might impair witness memory for events and faces, the current research tested participants’ ability to recall a mock crime at elevated BAC levels (>.08%). The BAC levels of bar patrons (N = 138) were recorded before witnessing a video-taped mock crime. Participants were then interviewed using free recall and cued questions and shown a six-person target-present or target-absent lineup. Results show that alcohol negatively affected both the quantity and quality of recall. Regardless of question format, alcohol also reduced the percentage of accurate information elicited from witnesses; however, only cued questions increased the percentage of inaccurate information reported. Intoxication had no effect on identification accuracy. These findings suggest that the encoding and storage systems for faces and events may be impacted differently by alcohol. In this article I explore the meaning of work for girls in rural northeastern Argentina as formative experience that forges their identity as peasants in the contemporary world. Based on ethnographic research conducted from 2008 to the present in rural areas of San Ignacio (Misiones), I examine, from the perspective of regulatory definitions regarding children's work, the ways in which young girls gradually participate in the social reproduction of families. Girls' participation in these activities should not be romanticized as part of a socialization process, but, rather, critically considered as formative experience in which class, age, gender, and ethnic distinctions define certain tasks as girls' peasant skills. Using data from participant observations made on three farms, I show how girls have an active role in the appropriation of knowledge through shared activities with boys, although such learning is overshadowed by the prevailing socio-historic construct of male dominance. This text study the ways in which two perspectives of the world -that of Christopher Columbus and that of George Bush- built and identified their enemies to offer them as legitimate objectives of the war. In both cases, the visibility of these enemies depended on a specific political and social process, but in a particular way on a discursive process. The characteristics that were assigned to them to show their homogeneity and coherence, can only be explained by the work of those who, with the social power to "materialize" the discourse, sought to mold and highlight them to combat them. The article sheds light on the intricate relationship between migration, ‘identity’ and belonging by focusing on young migrants in the context of Greek society. Based upon a qualitative study of youth identities, the key objective is to examine their collective identifications, formed through the dialectic of self-identification and categorization. The analysis of young migrants’ narratives unpacks how their sense of belonging and emotional attachments to their countries of origin and settlement are mediated by processes of racialization and ‘othering’. Based on a qualitative study of youth identities in Greece, the paper unpacks the dynamic processes of ethnonational (dis)identification and belonging that Albanian young migrants are implicated in. Analysis of in-depth interviews illustrates how racism, coupled with their lack of citizenship, affects their (dis)identifications. Additionally, categorisation is reported to crucially mediate their belonging, giving rise to a double-edged sense of otherness and alienation. The paper concludes by putting forward a conceptualisation of young migrants' collective identities as involving the emotive dialectic of (dis)identification, categorisation and belonging, along with negotiation of boundaries and acceptance by 'others' in both home and settlement societies.
