The structure of Po-208 populated through the EC/beta(+) decay of At-208 is investigated using gamma-ray spectroscopy at the ISOLDE Decay Station. The presented level scheme contains 27 new excited states and 43 new transitions, as well as a further 50 previously observed. rays which have been (re)assigned a position. The level scheme is compared to shell model calculations. Through this analysis approximately half of the beta-decay strength of At-208 is found to proceed via allowed decay and half via first-forbidden decay. The first-forbidden transitions predominantly populate core excited states at high excitation energies, which is qualitatively understood using shell model considerations. This mass region provides an excellent testing ground for the competition between allowed and first-forbidden beta-decay calculations, important for the detailed understanding of the nucleosynthesis of heavy elements.

The β decay of ^{208}Hg into the one-proton hole, one neutron-particle _{81}^{208}Tl_{127} nucleus was investigated at CERN-ISOLDE. Shell-model calculations describe well the level scheme deduced, validating the proton-neutron interactions used, with implications for the whole of the N>126, Z

The β decay of 207Hg into the single-proton-hole nucleus 207Tl has been studied through γ-ray spectroscopy at the ISOLDE Decay Station (IDS) with the aim of identifying states resulting from coupling of the πs−11/2, πd−13/2, and πh−111/2 shell model orbitals to the collective octupole vibration. Twenty-two states were observed lying between 2.6 and 4.0 MeV, eleven of which were observed for the first time, and 78 new transitions were placed. Two octupole states (s1/2-coupled) are identified and three more states (d3/2-coupled) are tentatively assigned using spin-parity inferences, while further h11/2-coupled states may also have been observed for the first time. Comparisons are made with state-of-the-art large-scale shell model calculations and previous observations made in this region, and systematic underestimation of the energy of the octupole vibrational states is noted. We suggest that in order to resolve the difference in predicted energies for collective and noncollective t=1 states (t is the number of nucleons breaking the 208Pb core), the effect of t=2 mixing may be reduced for octupole-coupled states. The inclusion of mixing with t=0,2,3 excitations is necessary to replicate all t=1 state energies accurately.

With this aim, two experiments were performed at ISOLDE-CERN in 2017 and 2018. The first experiment had the aim to resolve the 2+ doublet at 16.6 and 16.9 MeV, in order to study their isospin mixing. The second experiment aimed to determine a value or give an experimental upper limit to the branching ratio of the exotic EC-p decay. An accurate measurement of the half-life of a nucleus is essential for the proper determination of the reduced Gammow-Teller transition probability B(GT). In this work, we present an experiment using a compact set-up of Si-telescope detectors to measure the half-life of the B nucleus. Three independent measurements have been analysed, obtaining the values 771.9(17) ms, 773.9(18) ms, and 770.9(27) ms. 3 pags., 1 fig., PASPAG is a Joint Research Activity within the Horizon2020-project ENSAR2 [1]. PASPAG aims to improve the detection system for European Large Scale Facilities to make best use of the high investment in delivering radioactive ion beams. Efficient gamma-ray and charged-particle detection are key tools for experimental nuclear physics. PASPAG aims for simultaneous detection of gamma and particle radiation by the use of new scintillator materials combined with the phoswich technique. In this report we first present the different tasks within the PASPAG-project in order to continue with a more detailed discussion on the R&D towards societal applications that are performed within the project. Especially we define the needed characteristics of detection systems for homeland security defined by the Thematic group for Radiological and Nuclear threats within the European Reference Network for Critical Infrastructure Protection (ERNCIP) [2]., The ENSAR2 project has received funding from the European Union via the Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under grant agreement No 654002. The C-12(alpha,gamma)O-16 reaction plays a central role in astrophysics, but its cross section at energies relevant for astrophysical applications is only poorly constrained by laboratory data. The reduced a width, gamma(11), of the bound 1(-) level in O-16 is particularly important to determine the cross section. The magnitude of gamma(11) is determined via sub-Coulomb a-transfer reactions or the beta-delayed a decay of N-16, but the latter approach is presently hampered by the lack of sufficiently precise data on the beta-decay branching ratios. Here we report improved branching ratios for the bound 1(-) level [b(beta,11) = (5.02 +/- 0.10) x 10(-2)] and for beta-delayed alpha emission [b(beta alpha) = (1.59 +/- 0.06) x 10(-5)]. Our value for b(beta alpha) is 33% larger than previously held, leading to a substantial increase in gamma(11). Our revised value for gamma(11) is in good agreement with the value obtained in a-transfer studies and the weighted average of the two gives a robust and precise determination of gamma(11), which provides significantly improved constraints on the C-12(alpha,gamma) cross section in the energy range relevant to hydrostatic He burning.

Isomer selective ionization using the ISOLDE RILIS enabled the ß decays of 133Ings (I¿ = 9=2+) and 133mIn (II¿ = 1=2-) to be studied independently for the first time. V. et al. ; 14 págs.; 10 figs.; 6 tabs., Beta-delayed proton emission from Mg has been measured at ISOLDE, CERN, with the ISOLDE Decay Station (IDS) setup including both charged-particle and gamma-ray detection capabilities. A total of 27 delayed proton branches were measured including seven so far unobserved. An updated decay scheme, including three new resonances above the proton separation energy in Na and more precise resonance energies, is presented. Beta-decay feeding to two resonances above the Isobaric Analogue State (IAS) in Na is observed. This may allow studies of the 4032.9(2.4)keV resonance in Ne through the beta decay of Mg, which is important for the astrophysically relevant reaction O(α,γ)Ne. Chromosome aberrations are considered alterations in the chromosome number or structure. They are mainly considered due to gametogenesis inborn error or during the zygote first cellular divisions. Among 4617 chromosomal studies performed during 19 years (from 1992 to 2011), at Hospital Para El Nino Poblano in Mexico, 34.6% (1596 patients) had chromosomal alterations. Among these study populations, a male and a female pediatric patient were described, with 6;9 translocation and trisomy of chromosome 6, where chromosome changes are classified as structural or numeric alterations respectively, and a number of leukemias has been associated with specific chromosomal translocations. Both cases were described in this study analyzing their hematological, clinical features, medical treatments and prognosis. In this new permanent station, devoted to -decay studies, the novel MAGISOL Si-Plugin Chamber was installed to study the exotic decay modes of the proton drip-line nucleus 31Ar. The motivation was to search for 3p and 3p channels, as well as to provide information on resonances in 30S and 29P relevant for the astrophysical rp-process. This process occurs through a resonance in the C-12 nucleus, famously known as the Hoyle state. In this state, the C-12 nucleus exists as a cluster of a particles. The state is the band-head for a rotational band with the 2(+) rotational excitation predicted in the energy region 9 - 11 MeV. This rotational excitation can affect the triple-alpha process reaction rate by more than an order of magnitude at high temperatures (10(9) K). Depending on the energy of the resonance, the knowledge of the state can also help determine the structure of the Hoyle state. In the work presented here, the state of interest is populated by beta decay of radioactive N-12 ion beam delivered by the IGISOL facility at JYFL, Jyvaskyla.

Mutations or chromosome aberrations are considered alterations in the chromosome number or structure. They are mainly considered due to gametogenesis inborn error (meiosis) or during the zygote first cellular divisions. All these alterations might be observed during metaphase from the cellular cycle, where DNA loses are seen (clastogenic processes) due to DNA repair processes deficiency o total absence, among others. 4617 chromosomal studies were performed at Hospital Para El Nino Poblano (Pediatric Hospital) in Mexico. During 19 years period of time (from 1992 to 2011) were 34.6% (1596 patients) showed different chromosomal alterations. Among the studies population, male and female pediatric patients with different genetic diseases were chosen. These chromosome changes are classified as numeric or structural alterations, respectively. Another group of genetic alterations are known as mutations and can be inherited among generations. A wide variety of pediatric patients with genetic diseases due to chromosome aberrations are described in this study analyzing their clinical characteristics, medical or surgical treatments and their medical evolution according to the genetic disease.
