Recently, Università Politecnica delle Marche and COMEC Innovative srl are involved in the research project “Smart Tow Winding” funded by MIUR (Ministry of Education, University and Research), concerning the development of an innovative process for the realization of a pressure vessel through Filament Winding (FW) technology. In this context, a design procedure for type IV composite pressure vessel is proposed. To design the component, the dedicated simulation software CADWIND was used to virtually generate the pressure vessel through the definition of the desired geometry, the type of prepreg, the number of layers and the bandwidth. The generated file was imported in the FEM simulation software Siemens NX with the aim of evaluating the structural resistance under an internal pressure of 70 MPa. Different external configurations of mandrels and stratification were tested in order to optimize the geometry of the vessel and the resistance to weight ratio. A high performance and low weight vessel configuration was finally identified.

O frango de corte após o nascimento não é imunocompetente e depende da transferência de anticorpos maternos via ovo para que desenvolva proteção contra patógenos nos primeiros dias de vida. Esta é a fase onde as aves estão mais susceptíveis a microrganismos patogênicos, entre os quais são causadores de artrite infecciosa, como o reovírus aviário. A idade da matriz é um fator que pode afetar tanto a imunidade dos frangos de corte quanto o desenvolvimento intestinal, qualidade do pintinho, eclosão, mortalidade embrionária, entre outros. Neste sentido, a idade da matriz que dará origem ao frango. também pode influenciar no peso do ovo e as proporções de seus constituintes. Apesar do conhecimento sobre fatores que contribuem para aumento do tamanho e conteúdo do saco vitelino, pouco se sabe sobre como a idade da matriz influencia na transferência de imunoglobulinas para a gema de ovo e, consequentemente, na concentração de imunoglobulinas para a progênie. Atualmente as artrites infecciosas representam um dos maiores desafios sanitários e econômicos na avicultura industrial em todo o mundo, sendo o reovírus um agente etiológico comumente envolvido. Neste contexto, os níveis de anticorpos maternos desempenham um papel crucial no estado de saúde das aves devido ao curto tempo de vida dos frangos de corte e as inúmeras perdas frente a infecções causadas por reovírus.

Considerando as caraterísticas subtropicais sul do Brasil, onde o verão é caracterizado por sua extensa duração com elevadas temperaturas e altos níveis de umidade, o estresse calórico é fator recorrente e pronunciado na bovinocultura leiteira. TTendo em vista o número expressivo de pequenos produtores e agricultura familiar na região de Santa Catarina, é imprescindível a análise dos impactos do estresse calórico em produções com menores dimensões. Por essas razões, o objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar o impacto do estresse calórico na produção leiteira de vacas de baixa produção.11 animais foram analisados durante 4 meses (novembro a março), e as produções individuais diárias de leite foram obtidas através de copo coletor acoplado ao sistema de ordenha tipo espinha de peixe, com circuito fechado. Os dados das temperaturas diárias mínima e máxima, bem como a umidade relativa do ar durante o período experimental foram obtidos na estação meteorológica do Instituto Federal Catarinense Campus Araquari. As análises estatísticas foram realizadas com o auxílio do software SAS (versão 9.3, SAS Institute Inc., Cary, NC). Os dados foram submetidos a análise de variância (PROC MIXED) para avaliar o efeito do mês sobre o índice temperatura e umidade e a produção média de leite, e avaliar o efeito do ITU abaixo ou acima de 72 sobre a produção média de leite, além de correlação de Pearson (PROC CORR) e regressão (PROC REG) para avaliar a relação entre o ITU e a produção média de leite. As médias foram comparadas pelo teste de Tukey a 5% de probabilidade de erro. Os animais estudados não tiveram queda na produção quando o ITU foi mais pronunciado, sendo justificado pela baixa produção leiteira dos animais, tendo menor desafio metabólico.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the reasons of quality deviation of a concentrate from a predefined standard. Five treatments were established: T1 - Control, standard concentrate formulation (SCF); T2 - PXMore5, SCF with more 5% vitamin-mineral premix (VMP); T3 - PXLess5, SCF with less 5% VMP. All three treatments used a 400kg batches in an INTECNIAL mixer; T4 - FeedMixer, SCF using a 4,000kg batch in an IMOTO mixer; T5 - PremixMixer, SCF using a 1,200kg batch in an MUYANG mixer. For each treatment, bags of 20 kg were stored in three storage places for four months. Water activity of concentrate was affected by temperature and air relative humidity in different storage places. Regarding the kind of mixer, the greatest variation in concentration of crude protein, mineral residue, copper, zinc, and selenium was observed in the PremixMixer. Adjustments are imperative in the handling and use procedures of this kind of mixer to meet the quality requirements required in the concentrate production. Analyzing the effect of the mineral-vitamin premix level, no difference could be defined with the evaluated parameters. Resumo: O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar as razões do desvio de qualidade de um concentrado de um padrão predefinido. Foram estabelecidos cinco tratamentos: T1 - controle, concentrado com formulação padrão (CFP); T2 - PXMais5, CFP com 5% a mais de vitaminas e minerais da pré-mistura (PVM); T3 - PXMenos5, CFP com 5% a menos de PVM. Todos esses três tratamentos utilizaram lotes de 400kg em um misturador INTECNIAL; T4 - FeedMixer, CFP usando um lote de 4.000kg em um misturador IMOTO; T5 - PremixMixer, CFP usando um lote de 1.200kg em um misturador MUYANG. Para cada tratamento, sacos de 20kg foram armazenados em três ambientes distintos por quatro meses. A atividade de água do concentrado foi afetada pela temperatura e umidade relativa do ar em diferentes locais de armazenamento. Em relação ao tipo de misturador, a maior variação na concentração de proteína bruta, resíduo mineral, cobre, zinco e selênio foi devido ao PremixMixer. Ajustes são imperativos nos procedimentos de manuseio e uso desse tipo de misturador para atender aos requisitos de qualidade exigidos na produção de concentrado. The economy of knowledge and high technology has become one of the priority areas of innovativedevelopment of countries. A similar benchmark was set for the Russian government. However,global challenges have challenged its implementation. The purpose of the article is to assess the stateof the scientific sphere of Russia on the basis of statistical analysis, to highlight promising areas of itsdevelopment. An analysis of the development of the R & D sector revealed a number of problems: thelow share of the industry in the country’s GDP, the outflow of specialists abroad, the insufficient levelof business inclusion in scientific developments and, as a result, the low degree of commercializationof scientific developments. At the same time, the pandemic of 2019 became an impulse for thedevelopment of Russian science. In the context of the pandemic, Russia can take a strong positionon the world stage to diagnose and combat it, as well as supply other promising non-resource goodsand services to the world community in key sectors of modern science. This paper presents an efficient technique of microstrip magnetic dipoles design that explores the physics ruling the antenna behavior not restricting to parametric analyses in a full-wave simulation software. The proposed approach makes use of the cavity model whose parameters are progressively enhanced by using full-wave electromagnetic simulation data in a feedback scheme. A curve fitting problem is established to evaluate the mentioned parameters at each iteration. To exemplify the developed technique, a microstrip magnetic dipole operating at 2.44 GHz (ISM band) was synthesized and its prototype was manufactured and tested in an anechoic chamber. The design was ready in less than one hour and only three full-wave simulations were required. A good agreement between theoretical predictions and experimental results was also observed.

Surgical procedures in posterior area of maxillary might cause an oroantral communication and iatrogenic sinusitis. An undetected oroantral communication can cause the penetration of foreign bodies, such as dental impression materials, in the maxillary sinus, thereby contributing to persistent sinusitis. Given the occurrence of a very rare clinical and medicolegal case of persistent and drug-resistant sinusitis due to radiologically undetected fragments of silicone paste for dental impression in the maxillary antrum, a literature review was pursued through sensitive keywords in relevant databases for health sciences. All retrieved articles were considered and data about the kind of impression materials thrusted into the maxillary sinus, the diagnostic issues, the reported range of symptoms, and the occurrence of medicolegal issues were analyzed. The diagnosis resulted to be quite challenging and belatedly especially in case of healed oroantral communication and when the material retained in the maxillary sinus has similar radiodensity compared to the surrounding normal or inflammatory tissues. The case was then discussed in comparison with the reviewed literature for both clinical and medicolegal issues. Hints were provided to professionals to face the challenging diagnosis in similar rare cases and to avoid the possible related litigation.

Antimicrobial substitutes are being used in pig production systems, to maintain the health of the animals without compromising their performance. The aim of this study is to evaluate the impact of either the removal of in feed antimicrobials or their substitution for feed additives, at the nursery and growing/finishing stages. At weaning, 1091 piglets were sexed, vaccinated, homogenized by weight and allocated to six treatments during the nursery stage (26-63 d): T1- feed with no antimicrobials nor additives; T2 - feed with antimicrobials; T3 - feed with prebiotic; T4 - feed with probiotic; T5 - feed with essential oils; T6 - feed with organic acids. The same treatments were applied to 840 pigs during the growing/finishing stages (64-167 d). There was no effect of the treatments on feed conversion at the nursery (P = 0.222) and the growing/finishing (P = 0.809) stages. The average daily gain did not differ across treatments in the nursery (P = 0.342) and in growing/finishing (P = 0.050). The cost of the interventions with injectable drugs was not different between the treatments neither at the nursery (P = 0.990) nor at the growing/finishing (P = 0.310). However, the pneumonia and pleurisy index for all treatments was equal or above 1.0, which indicates a respiratory challenge. There was an increase in the cost with antimicrobials or additives per kg of feed produced, which impacts the cost per kg of pig produced. In conclusion, the removal of antimicrobials in pig diets is financially feasible and their substitution by additives did not impact growing performance.

The diagnostic accuracy of the I3M to assess the legal age of 18 years has already been tested in several specific-population samples. The left lower third molar has been extensively used for discriminating between minors and adults. This research aimed to compare the usefulness of lower third molar maturity indexes, from both left and right side (I3ML and I3MR), in samples originating from four distinct continents in order to examine possible differences in their accuracy values. For this purpose, a sample of 10, 181 orthopantomograms (OPGs), from Europe, Africa, Asia and America, was analysed and previously scored in other studies. The samples included healthy subjects with no systemic disorders with both third molars and clear depicted root apices. Wilcoxon Signed Rank test for left and right asymmetry did not show any significant differences. Data about sensitivity, specificity, predictive values, likelihood ratio and accuracy were pooled together and showed similar results for I3ML and I3MR, respectively. In addition, all these quantities were high when only the I3MR was considered to discriminate between adults and minors. The present referable database was the first to pool third molar measurements using panoramic radiographs of subjects coming from different continents. The results highlighted that both I3ML and I3MR are reliable indicators for assessing the legal age of 18 years old in those jurisdictions where this legal threshold has been set as the age of majority.

The Covid 19 pandemic we are currently facing all over the world is undoubtly an emergency condition which exposes all workers to the risks of a serious infection. The personnel working in the autoptic room is at high risk for the possible contact with infected material from corpses, splashes and aerosols diffusion, and must be always prepared to stay safe and healthy. We offer to the forensic odontologists' community a short summary of some old and new hints on the treatment of dead bodies in the autopsy room during this pandemic emergency time.

This paper presents two calibration procedures for microwave vector comparators. The first is intended for architectures composed of a quadrature demodulator. It assumes that the output voltages of this component are expressed as cosine and sine functions with different amplitudes and DC offsets. Tests with a prototype using an ADL5380 have shown amplitude and phase errors less than 0.1 dB and 4.3°, respectively. The second calibration procedure is developed for comparators comprised of gain and phase detectors. A prototype with two AD8302 was designed to provide 360° phase coverage, since the AD8302 is limited to 180° phase detection. As the developed comparator couples the input signals internally, we introduce an efficient way of determining the corresponding coupling coefficients to ensure high accuracy. Tests with the prototype have shown amplitude and phase errors below 0.7 dB and 2°, respectively. Finally, experiments conducted in an anechoic chamber with a phased array and a direction finding system using the two prototypes demonstrate the efficacy of the calibration procedures.

A design of a blade antenna embedded in low-cost dielectric substrate (FR4) and operating at 4.97 GHz is the subject of this paper. The antenna design is accomplished using parametric analysis in the HFSS™ software, where the antenna dimensions are changed and it is observed how the changes affect figures-of-merit like input impedance, reflection coefficient and radiation patterns. The antenna prototype is presented, as well as, a comparison between experimental and theoretical results.

This paper presents a performance analysis of an azimuth-only amplitude-comparison direction finding (DF) system in operational scenarios. The DF system is composed of two-squinted cavity-backed spiral antennas and it can move while in operation. Initially, the DF system is calibrated by using the spirals embedded element patterns, being the resulting calibration residual errors evaluated at frequencies in the range from 1 to 18 GHz. Errors obtained are lower than 1° rms. The azimuth angular errors are then computed considering sources not polarization matched to the spiral antennas and the system moving on paths whose heights may change with time. Full-wave simulations are run to estimate the radiation data needed for evaluation.

This paper presents a performance analysis of cross- and X-shaped arrays of cavity-backed spiral antennas for amplitude-comparison direction finding (ACDF) systems. First, an effective calibration strategy for the ACDF system is proposed, which uses the embedded element patterns to improve the accuracy of the evaluated calibration coefficients. As will be seen, both cross- and X-shaped arrays show calibration residual error values lower than 1° rms. Finally, the ACDF system angular error values are quantified for sources which are not polarization matched to the spiral antennas. Full-wave simulations are run to estimate the arrays radiation performances in the range from 1 to 18 GHz.

This paper presents the design of an ultra-wideband planar two-arm compound spiral antenna composed of an equiangular spiral and an Archimedean spiral, which respectively improve the radiator performance at low and high frequencies. A metallic cavity filled with absorber material, used to make unidirectional the radiation pattern of the antenna, also allows the use of a resistive termination to improve antenna's performance at low frequencies. By using a Hecken approach, a microstrip to parallel-strip transition (balun) is designed to feed the spiral arms. In the range from L- to X-band, measured radiation patterns, axial ratio, and reflection coefficient attain good results. Finally, the application of the antenna in a direction finding system is described.

This paper presents a performance analysis of an ultra-wideband planar two-arm Archimedean spiral antenna fed by tapered printed baluns with Hecken and exponential impedance profiles. Practical baluns often exhibit amplitude and phase unbalances that cause disturbances in the antenna responses. The analysis described here addresses the dependence of antenna's performance on the balun profile, which plays an important role in the spiral design, since most of its applications require stable characteristics over the entire operating frequency band. The proposed baluns and antenna designs were simulated and optimized using ANSYS HFSS. All balun's configurations have shown a reflection coefficient better than −10 dB over the 1–18 GHz frequency band.

In this work palladium is characterized as a silicon contaminant by recombination lifetime, DLTS, C – V and C – t measurements of palladium-implanted wafers. Palladium introduced by ion implantation is found to remain in the solid solution in silicon after rapid thermal treatments, and to be a very effective recombination center. For this reason recombination lifetime measurements are the most sensitive method to detect palladium in silicon. Two palladium-related levels were found by DLTS in p-type material. One of these levels corresponds to a level reported in the literature as the single donor level of substitutional palladium. For what concerns MOS capacitors, palladium is responsible for negative oxide charge and for degradation of the generation lifetime. In addition, palladium is confirmed to be a very fast diffuser, which segregates at the wafer surface even with low temperature treatments (250 °C). Microscopy inspections showed that palladium precipitates and surface defects were formed upon segregation.

The goal of this study was to optimize the mixture of swine manure (SM) and cattle manure (CM) used in the vermicomposting process, seeking to increase the manure biodegradation rate and enhance the biomass production of both earthworms and higher plants. To achieve this goal, physico-chemical parameters were determined to assess the final compost quality after 50 days of vermicomposting. The different manure ratios used to produce the composts (C) were as follows (SM:CM, % m/m basis): C1 100:0, C2 (75:25), C3 (50:50), C4 (25:75), and C5 (0:100). In addition, the earthworm biomass and the phytoproductivity of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) plants grown in mixtures (1:1) of natural soil and the most viable vermicomposts were investigated. The C1 and C2 compost compositions were associated with high earthworm mortality rates. The C3 compost provided the highest mineral concentrations and C5 showed the highest lettuce yield (wet biomass). The results verify that stabilized cattle manure is an excellent substrate for the vermicomposting process and that fresh swine manure must be mixed with pre-stabilized cattle manure to ensure an optimized vermicomposting process, which must be controlled in terms of temperature and ammonia levels. It is concluded that small livestock farmers could add value to swine manure by applying the vermicomposting process, without the need for high investments and with a minimal requirement for management of the biodegradation process. These are important technical aspects to be considered when circular economy principles are applied to small farms.

Xanthan gum is used as thickener in media to preserve food products, having cryoprotectant and antioxidant properties that may be relevant for sperm cryopreservation.To evaluate the effects of adding xanthan gum to freezing extenders on post-thawing quality and oxidant activity of ram sperm.Ejaculates from seven rams extended TRIS-egg yolk-glycerol were split in three treatments including xanthan gum (0.15%; 0.20%; and 0.25%) and a control with no xanthan gum.After thawing, motility and production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) with 0.20% and 0.25% xanthan gum were lower than for the control (P0.05), but mitochondrial functionality and integrity of membrane, acrosome and DNA did not differ (P0.05). Xanthan gum at 0.20% and 0.25% may be an efficient antioxidant for frozen-thawed ram sperm, due to the reduction in ROS production.

This paper presents a computationally efficient technique for designing electrically thick differentially-driven rectangular microstrip antennas with coaxial probe feed. It concerns the use of a transmission line model for probe positioning, along with a full-wave field simulator that yields accurate results with reduced number of required full-wave simulations. An electrically thick antenna was designed with the proposed technique to operate at 2442 MHz, having its radiation patterns and input impedance measured and compared against a single-feed rectangular microstrip antenna to demonstrate the advantages of using differential feed to reduce cross-polarization in H-plane.

The design of low-cost SIW (substrate integrated waveguide) resonant cavity for educational laboratory is described in this paper. The cavity is analyzed by means of modal expansion method, equivalent lumped circuit and full wave simulation. In order to validate the theoretical analysis, a prototype is constructed using a FR-4 (fiber glass) dielectric. Finally, the resonant cavity quality factor is computed using different methods.
