The concept of network meta-analyses (NMA) has been introduced to the field of physical therapy. However, the reporting standard guidelines of these studies have not been evaluated. In this systematic review, we included all published NMA physical therapy studies that compared the clinical efficacy of three or more interventions to evaluate whether NMAs in physical therapy exhibit adequate reporting recommendations. PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library were searched up to 30 June 2022. Among the 252 identified articles, 19 NMAs including 805 randomized controlled trials were included. We applied both preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analysis (PRISMA) and PRISMA-NMA checklists, which are 27- and 32-item reporting standard guidelines assessment tools, respectively. Protocol registrations (68.4%), risk of bias across studies (63.2%), additional analysis (57.9%), and funding (31.6%) were problematic items considering the PRISMA guidelines. Four studies reported all five new NMA-reporting items, and 15 (78.9%) did not address items S1–5 from the PRISMA-NMA guidelines. The median score (interquartile range) of the reporting standard guidelines was 27.0 (25.8–28.0). The identified shortcomings of published NMAs should be addressed while training researchers, and they should be encouraged to apply PRISMA-NMA, as a recognized tool for assessing NMA reporting guidelines is required.

Background We aimed to assess if quantitative radiomic features can predict programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression in advanced stage lung adenocarcinoma. Methods This retrospective study included 153 patients who had advanced stage (>IIIA by TNM classification) lung adenocarcinoma with pretreatment thin section computed tomography (CT) images and PD-L1 expression test results in their pathology reports. Clinicopathological data were collected from electronic medical records. Visual analysis and radiomic feature extraction of the tumor from pretreatment CT were performed. We constructed two models for multivariate logistic regression analysis (one based on clinical variables, and the other based on a combination of clinical variables and radiomic features), and compared c-statistics of the receiver operating characteristic curves of each model to identify the model with the higher predictability. Results Among 153 patients, 53 patients were classified as PD-L1 positive and 100 patients as PD-L1 negative. There was no significant difference in clinical characteristics or imaging findings on visual analysis between the two groups (P > 0.05 for all). Rad-score by radiomic analysis was higher in the PD-L1 positive group than in the PD-L1 negative group with a statistical significance (-0.378 ± 1.537 vs. -1.171 ± 0.822, P = 0.0008). A prediction model that uses clinical variables and CT radiomic features showed higher performance compared to a prediction model that uses clinical variables only (c-statistic = 0.646 vs. 0.550, P = 0.0299). Conclusions Quantitative CT radiomic features can predict PD-L1 expression in advanced stage lung adenocarcinoma. A prediction model composed of clinical variables and CT radiomic features may facilitate noninvasive assessment of PD-L1 expression. In acute pulmonary embolism (PE), circulatory failure and systemic hypotension are important clinically for predicting poor prognosis. While pulmonary artery (PA) clot loads can be an indicator of the severity of current episode of PE or treatment effectiveness, they may not be used directly as an indicator of right ventricular (RV) failure or patient death. In other words, pulmonary vascular resistance or patient prognosis may not be determined only with mechanical obstruction of PAs and their branches by intravascular clot loads on computed tomography pulmonary angiography (CTPA), but determined also with vasoactive amines, reflex PA vasoconstriction, and systemic arterial hypoxemia occurring during acute PE. Large RV diameter with RV/left ventricle (LV) ratio1.0 and/or the presence of occlusive clot and pulmonary infarction on initial CTPA, and clinically determined high baseline PA pressure and RV dysfunction are independent predictors of oncoming chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH). In this pictorial review, authors aimed to demonstrate clinical and serial CTPA features in patients with acute massive and submassive PE and to disclose acute CTPA and clinical features that are related to the prediction of oncoming CTEPH.

Background and Objectives: Aspects of improving cardiorespiratory fitness should be factored into therapeutics for recovery of movement in stroke patients. This study aimed to recommend optimized cardiorespiratory fitness therapeutics that can be prescribed to stroke patients based on a literature review and an expert-modified Delphi technique. Materials and Methods: we searched PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, and Cochrane databases and yielded 13,498 articles published from 2010 to 2019 to support the development of drafts. After applying the exclusion criteria, 29 documents were analyzed (drafts, 17 articles; modified Delphi techniques, 12 articles). This literature was reviewed in combination with the results of a modified Delphi technique presented to experts in the physical medicine and rehabilitation field. Analysis of the literature and survey results was conducted at the participating university hospital. Results: the results of this analysis were as follows: first, 12 intervention items derived through a researcher’s literature review and a Delphi technique questionnaire were constructed using the Likert scale; second, we asked the experts to create two modified Delphi techniques by reconstructing the items after statistical analysis for each order comprising five categories, and 15 items were finally confirmed. Conclusions: the recommendations in this study may lead to the development of a standard decision-making process for physiotherapists to improve their patients’ cardiorespiratory fitness. Moreover, the study results can help prescribers document patient care to reduce prescription errors and improve safety. In the future, multidisciplinary studies could potentially provide better therapeutics alternatives for cardiorespiratory fitness.

This review of reviews aimed to evaluate the reporting quality of published systematic reviews and meta-analyses in the field of sports physical therapy using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. This review of reviews included a literature search; in total, 2047 studies published between January 2015 and December 2020 in the top three journals related to sports physical therapy were screened. Among the 125 identified articles, 47 studies on sports physical therapy were included in the analysis (2 systematic reviews and 45 meta-analyses). There were several problems areas, including a lack of reporting for key components of the structured summary (10/47, 21.3%), protocol and registration (18/47, 38.3%), risk of bias in individual studies (28/47, 59.6%), risk of bias across studies (24/47, 51.1%), effect size and variance calculations (5/47, 10.6%), additional analyses (25/47, 53.2%), and funding (10/47, 21.3%). The quality of the reporting of systematic reviews and meta-analyses of studies on sports physical therapy was low to moderate. For better evidence-based practice in sports physical therapy, both authors and readers should examine assumptions in more detail, and report valid and adequate results. The PRISMA guideline should be used more extensively to improve reporting practices in sports physical therapy.

Background Cognitive tasks influence gait by reducing balancing abilities. Diverse studies to date have examined dual-tasking and gait. Objective This study aimed to determine the influences of smart phone use while walking on lower limb joint angle and dynamic balancing ability. Methods Thirty healthy subjects were voluntarily recruited from the university population. All subjects were required to perform the tasks under three conditions: not using a smart phone, having a conversation by phone, and playing a smart phone game. Lower limb joint angle and dynamic balance ability related to smart phone use during gait were measured. Motion analysis was used to measure lower limb joint angle changes during gait, while balance measuring equipment was used to measure the dynamic balancing ability. Results In the stability limit test to measure the changes in dynamic balancing abilities, significant differences were found among the different smart phone use conditions. Conclusions Smart phone use during movements that are required for balance requires special attention, and this study provides important basic data for follow-up studies.

Interferential current (IFC) stimulation can alter pain perception. This study aimed to investigate the effects of IFC stimulation on motor cortex signals and observe how electroencephalography changes depend on IFC stimulation parameters. Forty-five healthy adults were divided into high frequency (HF)&ndash, low intensity (LI), HF&ndash, high intensity (HI), and low frequency (LF)&ndash, HI groups to compare their electroencephalography before, immediately after, and 30 min after current stimulation. The changes in relative beta power according to the intervention time showed significant differences between the HF&ndash, LI and HF&ndash, HI, as well as the LF&ndash, HI and HF&ndash, HI, groups in the C3 and P3 regions immediately after IFC stimulation. Similarly, the gamma band showed significant differences according to the intervention time between the LF&ndash, HI groups in the P3 region immediately following IFC intervention. For relative theta power, the interaction between group and time was significantly different in the Fp2, F3, F4, C3, C4, and P4 regions. Based on these results, we were able to map the activation in cerebral cortex regions according to the stimulation level, confirming changes in electroencephalogram activation through peripheral nerve stimulation. This study provides a foundation for future applications for selectively controlling feedback at a proper stimulation level in young adults.

Evaluation of stroke patients is prioritized over therapeutic interventions to restore cardiorespiratory capacity. This study aimed to develop a clinically applicable guideline to evaluate cardiorespiratory physiotherapy in stroke patients based on a literature review and a modified Delphi survey. The literature search included 13,498 articles in PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL, and Cochrane Library electronic databases. We surveyed previous articles between January 2010 and June 2019. After the option elimination process, a total of 27 documents were selected and analyzed (draft: 18, modified Delphi survey: 9). The results of this research are roughly divided into two categories. First, 31 draft items were extracted, and a modified Delphi survey questionnaire was created from a literature review. Second, an expert was asked to make two modified Delphi surveys and to modify, delete, and supplement the entries in the statistical analysis at each level to finalize the steps to 20 items. The guidelines developed in this study reflect the selective use of cardiorespiratory physiotherapy evaluation methods in the clinical setting, based on the health status of individual patients. Moreover, the guidelines may help physiotherapists make informed decisions based on expert knowledge, thereby playing a crucial role in the patient-centered treatment planning process.

BACKGROUND Osteoprotegerin (OPG) is a soluble glycoprotein that belongs to the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) receptor superfamily. OPG is mainly secreted by bone. The relationship between acute resistance training, serum OPG levels and metabolic syndrome, including insulin resistance, remains unclear. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of resistance exercise on serum OPG levels and insulin resistance in middle-aged women with metabolic syndrome. MATERIAL AND METHODS Twenty-four middle-aged women were divided into those with metabolic syndrome (n=12) and a normal control group without metabolic syndrome or insulin resistance (n=12). Metabolic syndrome was diagnosed according to the National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel III (NCEP-ATP III) criteria. The quantitative insulin-sensitivity check index (QUICKI) and the homeostatic model assessment (HOMA) index for assessing beta-cell function and insulin resistance were used. The intensity of the resistance exercise was 60-70% of the repetition maximum, for 40 minutes with 10-12 repetitions, performed three times per week. Venous blood samples were tested using standard laboratory procedures. RESULTS Before exercise, the metabolic syndrome group showed a significant increase in waist circumference (P=0.030) and serum triglyceride (TG) (P=0.014), and lower high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C) (P=0.010) compared with the control group. After the eight-week resistance exercise program, waist circumference, and the QUICKI decreased and OPG levels were significantly increased in the metabolic syndrome group compared with the normal control group. CONCLUSIONS A resistance exercise program was effective in reducing factors associated with metabolic syndrome including insulin resistance and increases serum levels of OPG in middle-aged women.

Penetration analyses are needed to improve the survivability of combat vehicles. The penetration analysis can be achieved by numerical analysis or experiments. Because excessive time is required to obtain results in both cases, it is needed to derive a penetration equation using numerical analysis. But, the constants for the penetration equation are hardly found in the literature. Therefore, in this paper, the penetration equation is derived using the following steps: (1) Setting up a numerical analysis model and proving it with experimental data, and (2) determining the constants of the penetration equations for various target materials and impact conditions using the numerical analysis model. This procedure can be used to predict penetration when there are no sufficient penetration experimental data for a given material and impact conditions. In this paper, ANSYS Explicit Dynamics was used for creating the simulated penetration data to estimate the parameters of the penetration equation. The penetration numerical analysis was performed for a high-velocity collision between a 7.62 mm AP (armor piercing) bullet and the targets, which include RHA (rolled homogeneous armor) steel and 7075 aluminum. As a result, the error rate between the results of the numerical analysis and penetration experiments is approximately 5 %, which verifies the accuracy of the numerical analysis. The constants of the penetration equation for RHA steel and 7075 aluminum were determined using the numerical analysis model. In vulnerability analyses, penetration equation with the constant that was identified using our methodology can replace the numerical penetration analysis, which requires excessive calculation time.

Interferential current electrical stimulation alters blood flow velocity and vessel size. We aimed to investigate the changes in the autonomic nervous system depending on electrical stimulation parameters.Forty-five healthy adult male and female subjects were studied. Bipolar adhesive pad electrodes were used to stimulate the autonomic nervous system at the thoracic vertebrae 1-4 levels for 20 min. Using Doppler ultrasonography, blood flow was measured to determine velocity and vessel size before, immediately after, and 30 min after electrical stimulation.Changes in blood flow velocity were significantly different immediately and 30 min after stimulation. The interaction between intervention periods and groups was significantly different between the exercise and pain stimulation groups immediately after stimulation (pImbalances in the sympathetic nervous system, which regulates balance throughout the body, may present with various symptoms. Therefore, in the clinical practice, the parameters of electrical stimulation should be selectively applied in accordance with various conditions and changes in form.

This study investigated the characteristics of Parkinson's disease patients' speech through difference of measured cepstral values of speech assignment (sustained vowel phonation, connected speech) between normal adults and patient's with Parkinson's disease in Korea. Subjects of the study were 17 males with Parkinson's disease and control group was 28 healthy male adults without cranial nerve damage or disorder. Speech was collected in sustained vowel phonation and connected speech respectively. The cepstral analysis was used to Analysis of Dysphonia in Speech and Voice (ADSV) Model 5109 of KayPENTAX Corp. Difference of measured value between the groups was confirmed with independent t-test. As the result of independent t-test, there was significant difference in CPP, L/H ratio and CSID of sustained vowel phonation between groups. In contrast, in connected speech, all the measured values have no significant difference between the two groups except CPP. Parkinson's disease patients had difference in speech characteristics depending on speech assignment (sustained vowel phonation, connected speech). Based on the results of this study, analysis on connected speech other than sustained vowel phonation is essentially required in order to precisely identify the speech characteristics Parkinson's disease patients.

This study developed prediction model for benign laryngeal disease based on machine learning which reflects the characteristics of Korean adults. This study analyzed 8,713 adults (3,801 males and 4,912 females) over the age of 19 who completed laryngoscopic assessment of 2010-2012 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHNES). It is difficult to determine whether lung function improves by simple abdominal strengthening exercises, and studies on the correlation of lung function and functional movement are insufficient. Therefore, we aimed to identify the correlation between lung function and functional movement. We recruited 204 healthy adults and measured their forced vital capacity, forced expiratory volume in 1 s, maximum voluntary ventilation, maximum expiratory pressure (MEP), and maximum inspiratory pressure (MIP). We also extracted data obtained during functional movements. Differences between lung function and functional movement by gender were determined using independent sample t-tests, while the relationship between lung function and functional movement variables were analyzed using Pearson&prime, s correlation coefficient. Significant gender-based differences between lung function and functional movement, a negative correlation between MIP and inline lunge, and a significantly positive correlation between MIP and trunk stability push-up occurred in males. In females, a positive correlation occurred between MEP and hurdle step, MIP and deep squat, and MIP and hurdle step. Aspects of lung function (MEP and MIP) showed correlations with functional movements. The results showed that lung function and functional movement were correlated, confirming that there is a relationship between lung function and functional movement in healthy adults.

The electrodeposition of Zn–Ni alloy coatings containing less than 11% Ni was performed in a sulfuric acid bath. We investigated the influence of the Ni content in the electrodeposit on the corrosion behavior of the alloy in detail, focusing mainly on the evolution of internal stress. The initial corrosion rates of specimens before salt spray testing were closely related to the internal stress and the Zn–6 wt% Ni coating showed better corrosion resistance than those of the other investigated coating due to the smallest internal stress. However, it was shown that the amount of residual Ni and a concentration reversal between Zn and Ni at the Zn–Ni/steel interface became more significant as the corrosion proceeded. In addition, closely packed nodular grains with hairline cracks and the formation of electrochemically noble γ-Ni 5 Zn 21 phase were observed at the highest Ni concentration of 10 wt%. And the cross-sectional distributions of alloying elements were more homogeneous with increasing Ni content in the deposit. Electrochemical test results with the resulting specimens with different salt spray testing times were also presented. At the highest Ni concentration, the sacrificial property to steel substrate was maintained with extended testing time, showing minimal corrosion current density. Regarding Zn–Ni alloy coatings for automotive applications, a decrease in corrosion depth with increasing Ni content after long-term exposure to salt spray was observed, indicating improved perforation resistance.

This study investigated the effect of Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) on the loudness, pitch and quality of the voice of the males diagnosed with dysphagia by stroke. NMES was conducted on experimental group of 15 patients for 2 months repeatedly while compensatory strategies for dysphagia were performed on control group of 15 patients. The purpose of this study was to analyze the factors that affects the experience of depressive symptom in children in multi-cultural families. Data source of this study were from the 2012 National Survey of Multicultural Families. Subjects were 19,431 persons aged 19~24 years. A prediction model was developed by the use of a QUEST algorithm. Dependent variable was defined as experience of depressive symptom. The purpose of this study was investigate the environments and attitude and overall satisfaction level according to the recognition of usage of physical therapy. The research subject was randomly selected those who are receiving physical therapy in 2014. Written questionnaire and SNS questionnaire collection methods were used. For SNS questionnaire collection method, the survey-monkey program using smart phone was used. The statistics processing was conducted with SPSS 18.0 software program. Data analysis method was used student t-test, One-way ANOVA. For post-hoc comparison, the data was analyzed with Tukey test and verified reliability through Cronbach’s alpha coefficient. According to the study results, it can be used as a parameter that is meaningful to the satisfaction survey of physiotherapy and physical therapist. The aim of the present study was to analyze the factors that affects the Endocrine Disorders in Korean elderly. Data were from the A Study on the Seoul Welfare Panel Study 2010. Subjects were 2111 persons (879 male, 1,232 female) aged 60 and older living in the community. Dependent variable was defined as prevalence of endocrine disorders. Explanatory variables were included as gender, level of education, household income, employment status, marital status, drinking, smoking, subjective reported body type, subjective health status, physical activity, experience of Stress, and depression. In the neural network algorithm analysis, level of education and subjective health status were significantly associated with endocrine disorders in Korean elderly. Based on this result, systematic programs are required in order to prevention of endocrine disorders.

In numerous epidemiological data, complex sample survey including stratification variables and cluster variables is used as a sampling method. This study compared the differences in mean and significant probability depending on the application method of weights when a chi-square test is performed using Complex Sample Survey Data. Multiple regression and complex sample regression analysis were used as analyzing methods. Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey (KYRBS) 2012 was used as data source. As a result of multiple regression and complex sample regression analysis, there were differences in mean and significant probability. The result of this study confirmed that in the analysis of data from complex sample surveys, biased variance (standard error) may be drawn out when using Simple Random Sampling Design. When using complex sampling survey data, in order to minimize the error for samples and to have study results that represent overall population, Complex Sampling Design is required.

Objective The utility of 18 F-Fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG PET/CT) scanning and brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as a staging workup for lung adenocarcinoma manifesting as pure ground glass opacity (GGO) is unknown. The purpose of this study was to determine the utility of these 2 tests for preoperative staging of pure GGO nodular lung adenocarcinoma. Methods The study included 164 patients (male:female, 73:91; mean age, 62 years) with pure GGO nodular lung adenocarcinoma who underwent PET/CT (in 136 patients) and/or brain MRI (in 109 patients) before surgery. Pathologic N staging and dedicated standard imaging or follow-up imaging findings for M staging were used as reference standards. The median follow-up time was 47.9 months. Results On PET/CT scan, abnormal FDG uptake of lymph nodes was found in 2 of 136 patients (1.5%); both were negative on final pathology. Abnormal FDG uptake of the liver was detected in 1 patient, which was also confirmed to be negative by dedicated abdominal CT. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and accuracy of PET/CT in detecting metastases were not applicable, 98% (95% confidence interval [CI], 94%-100%), 0% (95% CI, 0%-71%), 100% (95% CI, 97%-100%), and 98% (95% CI, 94%-100%), respectively. No brain metastasis was found in preoperative brain MRI of 109 patients. Of 109 patients, 1 (0.9%) developed brain metastasis 30 months after surgical resection. As the elderly are more vulnerable to drinking than young adults, elucidation of the relationship between drinking habits of old age and ADL is an important issue from the perspective of public health science. This study explores the relationship between drinking habits of the elderly and impaired Activities of Daily Living (ADL) and provides basic materials to prevent impaired ADL in the old age. This study analyzed a total of 4,134 elderly people over the age of 65 who participated in 2011 Korean Longitudinal Survey of Aging. Drinking habits were classified into 'no drinking (no drinking experience in lifetime)', 'past drinking (have drinking experience in the past but presently do not drink)' and 'currently drinking'. ADL were classified into ‘normal group’ and ‘Impaired ADL group’. To compare the relationship between alcohol drinking and impaired ALD, the odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were presented using hierarchical logistic regression. As the result of multivariate analysis (adjusted model), even after all confounding variables were adjusted, drinking had significant relationship with ADL impairment. The purpose of this study was to analyze the factors that affects the health behaviors related to smoking cessation in Korean elderly. Data were from the A Study on the Seoul Welfare Panel Study 2010. Subjects were 214 persons (187 male, 27 female) aged 60 and older living in the community. Outcome variable was defined as experience of smoking cessation. Explanatory variables were included as gender, level of education, employment status, household income, marital status, drinking, subjective health status, physical activity, subjective family relationship, subjective relationship with friends, and depression. A prediction model was developed by the use of a neural network algorithm of data-mining approach. In the neural network algorithm analysis, education level, subjective relationship with friends, subjective health status, and state of employment, subjective family relationship were significantly associated with health behaviors related to smoking cessation in Korean elderly. Based on this result, systematic smoking cessation programs are required. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of sit to stand movement on the muscle activity of lower extremities muscles by the different type of chair and posture. Total 52 healthy adult between 19 and 26 were selected as subject for the study.
