In this paper is analysed, through the concept of nationalism, how different social and political groups in democratic Spain use the idea of the “Recovery of Historical Memory” to reform the national memory of the Spanish Civil War and the francoist dictatorship. This analysis exposes, by means of the written press, how these groups coordinate and mobilize themselves to legitimate their goal. More concretely, this process is analysed through three national newspapers (El País, La Vanguardia and ABC) with the objective to determine to what extent these groups managed to change the national perception on Spain’s traumatic past (1996-2007). pages 153-169
