Abstract Background The duplex kidney is one of the common congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract. We present two cases of renal tumor accompanied with ipsilateral duplex kidney. The image of the tumor, renal artery system and collecting system were rendered by AI software (Fujifilm’s Synapse® AI Platform) to support the diagnosis and surgical planning. Case presentation Two Vietnamese patients (a 45-year-old man and a 54-year-old woman) with incidental cT1 renal cell carcinoma (RCC) were confirmed to have ipsilateral duplex kidneys by 3D reconstruction AI technique. One patient had a Renal score 9ah tumor of left kidney while the other had a Renal score 9 × tumor of right kidney in which a preoperative CT scan failed to identify a diagnosis of duplex kidney. Using the Da Vinci platform, we successfully performed robotic partial nephrectomy without any damage to the collecting system in both cases. Conclusion RCC with duplex kidneys is a rare condition. By utilizing a novel AI reconstruction technique with adequate information, two patients with RCC in duplex kidneys were successfully performed robotic partial nephrectomy without complication.

This paper investigates the impact of spontaneously generated coherence (SGC) and relative phase on the propagation of a probe laser pulse in the presence of an incoherent pump field. It was discovered that when the control laser field is turned on, the medium forms an electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) effect. Hence, the propagation of the probe laser pulse has a like-soliton form/shape. On the contrary, the probe laser field is rapidly attenuated when the control laser field is turned off. This feature allows the creation of a mechanism to turn “off” and “on” the probe laser field through “turning off” and “on” the control laser field, i.e., an all-optical switching mechanism based on EIT. Besides intensity and frequency, the laser field is also characterized by polarization and phase. The EIT has the nature of quantum interference, so it is very sensitive to changes in polarization, especially in the presence of relative phase between laser fields. Therefore, they also significantly affect pulse propagation and optical switching performance. The research results could be helpful for experimental observations or applications in photonic devices such as logic gates, quantum optical information processors, and quantum computers.

Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) share a majority and play an important role in the socio-economic development of national as well as regional economies in the world and Vietnam is not an exception. However, they are more vulnerable to adverse changes due to limited resources. The Covid-19 pandemic which started in the year 2020 has seriously challenged the SMEs operation. Their resilience becomes the first priority under this specific circumstance. This research was conducted to explore the factors affecting the resilience of SMEs in Ho Chi Minh City. By employing PLS-SEM on the data of 300 surveyed businesses, the effects of three key internal factors: leadership, human capital and social capital on SMEs resilience have been investigated. The findings reveal the significant impacts of social capital, leadership, and human capital on the SMEs resilience, especially in the context of Covid-19. The study results highlight that social capital mobilization should be firstly prioritized for SMEs to promote their resilience.

Abstract Targeted therapy with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI) provides survival benefits to a majority of patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, resistance to TKI almost always develops after treatment. Although genetic and epigenetic alterations have each been shown to drive resistance to TKI in cell line models, clinical evidence for their contribution in the acquisition of resistance remains limited. Here, we employed liquid biopsy for simultaneous analysis of genetic and epigenetic changes in 122 Vietnamese NSCLC patients undergoing TKI therapy and displaying acquired resistance. We detected multiple profiles of resistance mutations in 51 patients (41.8%). Of those, genetic alterations in EGFR, particularly EGFR amplification (n = 6), showed pronounced genome instability and genome-wide hypomethylation. Interestingly, the level of hypomethylation was associated with the duration of response to TKI treatment. We also detected hypermethylation in regulatory regions of Homeobox genes which are known to be involved in tumor differentiation. In contrast, such changes were not observed in cases with MET (n = 4) and HER2 (n = 4) amplification. Thus, our study showed that liquid biopsy could provide important insights into the heterogeneity of TKI resistance mechanisms in NSCLC patients, providing essential information for prediction of resistance and selection of subsequent treatment.

Superparamagnetic copper ferrite (CuFe2O4) nanoparticles were utilized as a heterogenous catalyst for the cross-coupling reaction of indole to form 3,3’-diindolylmethane (DIM) as the desirable product. High reaction yield, at around 82%, was achieved under optimal conditions. The CuFe2O4 material could be easily separated from the reaction mixture by an external magnetic field and could be reutilized several times without a significant decrease in catalytic activity. We also showed that no sites of catalyst material leached into reaction solution was detected. To our best knowledge, the above cross-coupling reaction was not previously conducted under catalysis of superparamagnetic nanoparticles. Copyright © 2021 by Authors, Published by BCREC Group. Green logistics is one of the current trends that logistics enterprises in countries have been applying for their logistics activities to achieve economic efficiency issues, but still ensure environmental friendliness and achieve social responsibility. In this article, the author wants to introduce readers the trend of green logistics applications in reducing operating costs of logistics enterprises; illustrated by typical successful situations of businesses around the world. Since then, propose some recommendations for Vietnam logistics enterprises in applying green logistics into enterprises to have the opportunity to reduce operating costs, integrate well with the world, and create competitive advantage for businesses in the same industry.

High specific surface area ZnCo2O4 nanoparticles were prepared via a sacrificial template accelerated hydrolysis by using nanoparticles of ZnO with highly polar properties as a template. The obtained ZnCo2O4 nanoparticles were characterized by the method of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area measurements, Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The obtained nanoparticles were performed as a photocatalyst for the degradation of methylene blue in aqueous solution under visible irradiation. The photocatalytic degradation rate of methylene blue onto the synthesized ZnCo2O4 was higher than that of commercial ZnO and synthesized ZnO template.

In this study, TiO2 nanomaterials were prepared using a solvothermal method and codoped with Co2+ and Fe3+ ions for the photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants under visible light. The physicochemical properties of the obtained materials were studied by powder X-ray diffraction, field emission electron scanning microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and nitrogen adsorption isotherms. Optical absorption was characterized by UV-vis absorption spectroscopy. The photocatalytic activities of the prepared materials were evaluated through methylene blue (MB) degradation under visible light irradiation. Results showed the excellent performance of MB degradation investigated on TiO2 samples codoped with Co2+ and Fe3+ in comparison with undoped and Co2+-doped TiO2 samples. The codoped TiO2 samples degraded 85%–90% of MB after 120 min, whereas all the prepared TiO2 samples were composed of pure anatase phase and had a spherical-like shape and mean crystalline size ranging from 6.2 nm to 7.8 determined by Scherrer’s equation. The optical absorption of the TiO2 codoped with Co2+ and Fe3+ was significantly enhanced toward the visible light region. The pseudo-second-order kinetic model fits well for the degradation of MB on as-prepared TiO2 codoped with Co2+ and Fe3+.

Incisional hernia refers to an abdominal wall defect at the site of a previous surgical incision. In this paper, we describe two patients who previously underwent open kidney stone surgery several years ago and had the ipsilateral recurrent stones. They were both managed by a mini percutaneous nephrolithotripsy (PCNL) to treat kidney stones. Case 1 was a 50-year-old female with right recurrent staghorn stones after 5 years of open surgery and required two PCNL procedures to achieve stone-free status. Case 2 was a 74-year-old male with significant comorbidities who had a right 27 mm recurrent kidney stone after 10 years of open nephrolithotomy. Both patients experienced no postoperative complications after PCNL. These cases show that in cases of lumbar incisional scar hernias, mini PCNL with ultrasound guidance and proper patient positioning can be an optimal approach for kidney stone treatment. Population-specific profiling of mutations in cancer genes is of critical importance for the understanding of cancer biology in general as well as the establishment of optimal diagnostics and treatment guidelines for that particular population. Although genetic analysis of tumor tissue is often used to detect mutations in cancer genes, the invasiveness and limited accessibility hinders its application in large-scale population studies. Here, we used ultra-deep massive parallel sequencing of plasma cell free DNA (cfDNA) to identify the mutation profiles of 265 Vietnamese patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Compared to a cohort of advanced NSCLC patients characterized by sequencing of tissue samples, cfDNA genomic testing, despite lower mutation detection rates, was able to detect major mutations in tested driver genes that reflected similar mutation composition and distribution pattern, as well as major associations between mutation prevalence and clinical features. In conclusion, ultra-deep sequencing of plasma cfDNA represents an alternative approach for population-wide genetic profiling of cancer genes where recruitment of patients is limited to the accessibility of tumor tissue site.

The identification and quantification of actionable mutations are of critical importance for effective genotype-directed therapies, prognosis and drug response monitoring in patients with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Although tumor tissue biopsy remains the gold standard for diagnosis of NSCLC, the analysis of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) in plasma, known as liquid biopsy, has recently emerged as an alternative and noninvasive approach for exploring tumor genetic constitution. In this study, we developed a protocol for liquid biopsy using ultra-deep massively parallel sequencing (MPS) with unique molecular identifier tagging and evaluated its performance for the identification and quantification of tumor-derived mutations from plasma of patients with advanced NSCLC. Paired plasma and tumor tissue samples were used to evaluate mutation profiles detected by ultra-deep MPS, which showed 87.5% concordance. Cross-platform comparison with droplet digital PCR demonstrated comparable detection performance (91.4% concordance, Cohen's kappa coefficient of 0.85 with 95% CI = 0.72-0.97) and great reliability in quantification of mutation allele frequency (Intraclass correlation coefficient of 0.96 with 95% CI = 0.90-0.98). Our results highlight the potential application of liquid biopsy using ultra-deep MPS as a routine assay in clinical practice for both detection and quantification of actionable mutation landscape in NSCLC patients.
