Intussusception is a rare condition in adults that occurs when a segment of the bowel telescopes into the lumen of the more distal segment. Colocolic intussusception accounts for only 8.3-38% of all intussusception cases in adults, the majority due to malignant causes such as adenocarcinoma, lymphoma, leiomyosarcoma, undifferentiated carcinoma... Lipoma is the most common benign cause, followed by gastrointestinal stromal tumors and adenomatous polyps. Surgery is the recommended treatment for colonic lipoma-induced intussusception. In this report, we describe a rare case of a 52-year-old female patient with colocolic intussusception due to an ascending colon lipoma which was diagnosed by ultrasound and computed tomography.

Abstract Background Understanding students’ career intentions through evidence-based approaches is crucial for developing effective career guidance and intervention strategies. Although there has been considerable attention in this field, research remains limited, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) in Asia. These regions have unique socioeconomic conditions and cultural norms that potentially shape decision-making processes. This study provides insights into the career intentions of medical and nursing students and identifies the key determinants influencing their choices at a newly established private institution (VinUniversity) in Vietnam. Methods This study employs a mixed-methods design. The quantitative phase involved a survey of all undergraduate medical and nursing students. The qualitative phase consisted of in-depth 11 individual interviews with a purposive sample until data saturation. Results A total of 198 students (77%) participated in the quantitative phase. The majority of students (75.8%) expressed interest in clinical practice, with preferences notably high for surgical specialties (30.9%), internal medicine (10.1%), and pediatrics (10.1%). 22.7% of students expressed a desire to work overseas, and a significant number (70.7%) indicated the lack of a career guidance program. Qualitative data revealed that personal interest, family influence, financial stability, and societal appreciation were primary influencers in career choice. Discussion The study underscores the complex interplay between personal interests, family influence, financial considerations, and societal expectations in shaping career choices. The persistent low interest in family medicine and primary care continued to be a concern. Conclusion This study provides further insights into the career intentions and influencing factors among medical and nursing students at VinUniversity. The implications for practice include implementing tailored career guidance programs, offering diverse elective tracks that incorporate global health experiences, and establishing structured mentorship programs. It is also recommended to measure the impact of these interventions through longitudinal follow-up studies to enhance career satisfaction, better prepare future healthcare professionals, and contribute to the improvement of healthcare systems.

We describe and characterise the case of a 26-year-old female undergoing surgery for a right-sided sinonasal alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma who developed profound, transient arginine vasopressin deficiency (AVP-D, formerly central diabetes insipidus (DI)) associated with anaesthesia. In this case report, we characterise the development of AVP-D with serial copeptin and paired urine and serum osmolality measurements. Based on the anaesthetic agent’s profile and the literature, we attribute this presentation to propofol exposure. We present a description of the literature on anaesthesia-associated DI as well as poignant learning points.

The article gives an in-depth understanding of the commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR) on labour under the new generation of free trade agreements (FTAs) of the European Union (EU), and especially, the EU – Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA). Following that, via the EU’s foreign and trade policies, this research clarifies the history as well as the evolution of the CSR commitments in the EU’s new generation FTAs. On that basis, this article also delves into the nature of CSR commitments related to labour in the EVFTA. Last but not least, the article reviews the current legislation of the EU and its member states as partners and suggests different policy implications that Vietnam and other developing nations might adopt to execute their CSR commitments in the context of global sustainable development.

To meet the increasing societal demands for the quality of childcare education in preschools and the requirements of the new Preschool Education Program, it is essential that the preschool teaching staff undergo comprehensive improvements in both ethical qualities and professional standards. Using theoretical research methods, reading and analyzing legal documents, examining management and autonomy documents, as well as employing synthesis, statistical, and comparative methods, this article focuses on several key areas: an overview of professional development and preschool teacher training; an analysis of the current state of teacher quality, ethics, and professional development of preschool teachers in Thai Binh; and recommendations for renewing the management of professional development activities to improve the quality of education, take care and upbringing of children in preschools in Thai Binh province in the current period.

Purpose: There is an increase globally of students using technology to support their learning. The purpose of this paper is to outline the technical aspects of adaptive learning and contribute to the development of pedagogy that incorporates this method in teaching and learning. Design/methodology/approach: This is a technical review article that summarises key guidance on the application of adaptive learning and then reflects on its application in a UK and Vietnamese context. Findings: Initial analysis demonstrates that learning can occur asynchronously because of students engaging with adaptive learning. Issues and recommendations were derived from the reflections and practice of both UK and Vietnamese practitioners. Recommendations focussed on the more practical elements of constructing and maintaining adaptive learning. Questions were then constructed to make the decision of whether to implement adaptive learning into teaching and learning practices. Originality/value: This academic commentary reflects on the implementation of asynchronous learning adaptive technologies in both the UK and Vietnam, specifically exploring the use of a "mastery path" and "computerised adaptive testing" to enhance student understanding.

Nurse educators play a critical role in preparing the next generation of nurses to provide high-quality patient care. The ongoing preparation of knowledge and skills for nurse educators is crucial for maintaining the quality of nursing education, particularly during the unexpected challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of a workshop series on five concurrent teaching methods for nurse educators in Vietnam. A mixed-methods study was conducted. An online workshop series was conducted for 25 nurse educator representatives from five nursing schools across Vietnam. The workshop program covered of five teaching methods, including (i) teaching from face-to-face class to e-learning, (ii) team-based learning (TBL), (iii) case-based teaching (CBT), (iv) debriefing techniques used in simulation training, and (v) developing peer program to assist students’ learning. Pre- and post–surveys were used to test knowledge of teaching methods, followed by semi-structured individual interviews. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive and comparison statistics, while qualitative data underwent content analysis. Results showed a significant improvement in participants’ overall knowledge following the workshops, with the mean total score of correct answers increasing from 12.48 (SD = 2.77) in the pre-test to 16.8 (SD = 3.81) in the post-test. Substantial gains were observed in three specific areas: the classic progress of activities in team-based learning, Kolb’s experiential learning cycle in simulation debriefing techniques, and the core value of the peer mentoring model had significantly improved. Most nurse educators expressed satisfaction with the training workshops, with the “debriefing technique” being the most interesting topic. Two major themes emerged from the qualitative analysis: fostering interest in updated teaching methods and motivating the change. This study suggests that replicating the workshop series on teaching methods would be a beneficial in facilitating ongoing improvements in teaching practice in Vietnam’s nursing education system.

The utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) in gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy has witnessed significant progress and promising results in recent years worldwide. From 2019 to 2023, the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy has released multiple guidelines/consensus with recommendations on integrating AI for detecting and classifying lesions in practical endoscopy. In Vietnam, since 2019, several preliminary studies have been conducted to develop AI algorithms for GI endoscopy, focusing on lesion detection. These studies have yielded high accuracy results ranging from 86% to 92%. For upper GI endoscopy, ongoing research directions comprise image quality assessment, detection of anatomical landmarks, simulating image-enhanced endoscopy, and semi-automated tools supporting the delineation of GI lesions on endoscopic images. For lower GI endoscopy, most studies focus on developing AI algorithms for colorectal polyps’ detection and classification based on the risk of malignancy. In conclusion, the application of AI in this field represents a promising research direction, presenting challenges and opportunities for real-world implementation within the Vietnamese healthcare context.

This cross-sectional study aimed to assess the knowledge and perceptions of sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and factors influencing perceptions among adolescents living in Son La, a mountainous region in Vietnam. A total of 382 adolescents participated in the study, with 59.7% girls and 40.3% boys. Findings revealed that the level of knowledge of SRH among adolescents in Son La is markedly different among girls and boys, where girls exhibited higher knowledge compared to boys in all aspects surveyed. The average SRH perception score was moderate (21.7 ± 8.05; maximum score = 33). Adolescents’ understanding of sexual intercourse, misconceptions related to first-time sexual experiences, and awareness of contraceptive methods were significantly associated with SRH perception scores. These findings underscore the need for targeted health education interventions in mountainous areas, emphasizing the importance of enhancing SRH knowledge and awareness among all adolescents, with gender-specific needs. Such efforts can contribute to improved SRH outcomes among adolescents in these regions.

Huanglongbing (HLB) is the most serious citrus disease in Vietnam. For the first time, this paper reported root microbial data of HLB-infected Citrus nobilis grown in Dak Lak Province, Vietnam, for further work toward controlling this disease. Roots of HLB-infected C. nobilis were collected, and the genomic DNA was isolated. The Illumina platform was used to sequence the shotgun metagenomic library, and bioinformatic tools were used to analyze sequenced data. We found that 4 kingdoms, 27 phyla, 57 classes, 124 orders, 246 families, 722 genera, and 1758 species of the root microbiome were identified from the sample. Actinomycetota was the predominant phylum (47.37 %), and biosynthesis was the primary function (57.38 %) of the microbiome.

This study analyzes the impact of US’s UMP announcements on the Vietnamese stock market during the 2008 GFC and COVID-19 pandemic. Utilizing an event study methodology, it examines both market-wide and sectors-specific stock reactions. The findings reveal overall positive market responses to UMP news in both periods, but with notable differences across industries and crises. During the COVID-19 pandemic, real estate, industrials, materials, and finance sectors exhibited significantly stronger positive reactions compared to the GFC. These sectors maintained positive AARs and CAARs with high statistical significance, suggesting heightened sensitivity to UMP during the pandemic-induced economic downturn. Furthermore, the financial and real estate sectors significantly outperformed their GFC responses during COVID-19, indicating a potential shift in investor sentiment and risk appetite towards these sectors amidst the pandemic's unique economic landscape. This research provides valuable insights into the diverse impacts of UMP across different sectors and crisis contexts.

This study aimed to investigate the current state of education on the development of children's cooperative abilities via the use of themed role-playing games in Dak Lak, Vietnam. The period between March through June 2019 was devoted to administering an online survey for data collection. The findings indicate that preschools have devoted attention, effort, intellect, and time to developing primary students' collaboration abilities. Despite this, the findings are still relatively low and do not reflect the proportional number of participants. The youngsters aged 5 to 6 years old have shown that the measures benefit their ability to collaborate with others. The youngsters are more engaged in the activity, taking the initiative, and showing enthusiasm for interacting with one another. The experimental and control groups were quite different regarding their ability to collaborate effectively. In comparison to the youngsters in the control group, those in the experimental group demonstrated superior collaboration skills on a more consistent and regular basis.

The research aims to investigate common mistakes in students' paragraph writing and then suggest some solutions to overcome and enhance students' writing skills. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were employed. Mistakes in the paragraph writing of 60 first-year students were gathered and analyzed. The research results reveal a total of 435 mistakes categorized into three groups: grammar, vocabulary, coherence and four main error causes including grammar and vocabulary weakness, lack of wrtiting practice, Vietnamese interference, and infrequent feedback and correction. Through the findings, several suitable measures have been proposed to assist students in self-correcting their writing mistakes and improving writing skills more effectively. Simultaneously, these measures aim to enhance the effectiveness of teaching writing skills for instructors.

The wear of roller linear guides (RLG) has a direct impact on the tooling precision of CNC machine tool. Wear depends on working conditions: load P, speed V, work environment which includes relative humidity RH and ambient temperature T. In this paper the mathematical regression function describes the relationship between the wear amount U of RLG with the three factors P, RH and T built on the basis of experimental research. The results show that the wear regression function U has an exponential form, which is consistent with experiments about the influence of climatic environment. It describes the simultaneous impact of three factors P, RH, T that affect wear of CNC machine tool rolling guide. With Vietnam's hot and humid environmental conditions, relative humidity RH% = 51 - 99%, temperature T = 15 - 450C, and load P = 2 - 6kgf, the influence on rolling guide wear of normal load P is 2 times the humidity RH% and about 3.8 times that of temperature T. Therefore, it is possible to predict the change in wear amount according to two environmental factors when loading P at certain values.

B. velezensis RB. IBE29 is a chitinolytic bacterium originally isolated from agricultural soil of Vietnam. Previous studies demonstrated this bacterium was a promising chitinase producer, biocontrol agent, and biofertilizer for crop production. The complete genome sequence of the bacterium was reported and possesses the gene encoding family 5 cellulase; however, role of this enzyme has not been experimentally characterized. This work aimed to express and biologically characterize family 5 cellulase of strain RB. IBE29. The ORF (without signal peptide) of the celA of strain RB. IBE29 was expressed in E. coli BL21-CodonPlus (DE3)-RIPL using the vector pColdII, and the corresponding product (rBvCelA, 55.17 kDa) was successfully purified using the HisTrap FF column. The purified rBvCelA showed the highest cellulase activity against CMC, followed by sugarcane bagasse and rice straw, and had optimal temperature and pH at 60 °C and 6.0, respectively. Metal salts ZnCl2, FeCl2, MgCl2, CuSO4, and MnCl2 enhanced the cellulase activity by 103.85, 124.24, 109.38, 105.64, and 115.12 %, respectively. In addition, the supplementation of the purified rBvCelA in the feed enhanced the growth and improved the feed intake of broiler chickens by 5.88 and 5.19 %, respectively. These results indicated that family 5 cellulase of B. velezensis has a promising role in crop production and poultry breeding. As far as we know, this is the first report describing the contribution of family 5 cellulase from B. velezensis in broiler breeding.

Citrus (Citrus nobilis L.) is one of the main fruit crops in Dak Lak Province of Vietnam; however, a dataset on the endophytic microbiome of this plant has yet to be discovered. This article presented the endophytic microbial dataset from roots of healthy Citrus nobilis L. collected in Dak Lak for the first time. We found that 4 kingdoms, 30 phyla, 58 classes, 125 orders, 242 families, 722 genera, and 1637 species of endophytic microorganisms were identified from the sample. Actinomycetota was shown to be the main phylum (64.36 %) and biosynthesis to be the most abundant function (55.64 %) of the endophytic microbial community. Data provided insights into the composition and functional diversity of the Citrus nobilis L. endophytic microbiome, especially novel microbial resources. They could be used for the next works towards applying the endophytic microbiome for sustainable citrus production.

Abstract Flexible bronchoscopy has revolutionized respiratory disease diagnosis. It offers direct visualization and detection of airway abnormalities, including lung cancer lesions. Accurate identification of airway lesions during flexible bronchoscopy plays an important role in the lung cancer diagnosis. The application of artificial intelligence (AI) aims to support physicians in recognizing anatomical landmarks and lung cancer lesions within bronchoscopic imagery. This work described the development of BM-BronchoLC, a rich bronchoscopy dataset encompassing 106 lung cancer and 102 non-lung cancer patients. The dataset incorporates detailed localization and categorical annotations for both anatomical landmarks and lesions, meticulously conducted by senior doctors at Bach Mai Hospital, Vietnam. To assess the dataset’s quality, we evaluate two prevalent AI backbone models, namely UNet++ and ESFPNet, on the image segmentation and classification tasks with single-task and multi-task learning paradigms. We present BM-BronchoLC as a reference dataset in developing AI models to assist diagnostic accuracy for anatomical landmarks and lung cancer lesions in bronchoscopy data.

Purpose: In this study, we presented the Design Thinking model called DITC (Design Thinking in Class) and conducted an experiment during one month with 197 engineering students at Hanoi University of Technology (HUST) to determine how this model could aid in the growth of problem solving and teamwork mindset in a flipped classroom. Method: A Design Thinking mindset questionnaire was given to 197 participants before and after this model was applied. A t-test was used to analyze the data. Findings: the DTIC model fostered students' mindsets such as empathy, holistic view, problem reframing, and teamwork. Students showed very positive feedback and reviews on the model. Implications to Research and Practice: DITC can assist students in grasping Design Thinking concepts, allowing them to understand real-world problems more effectively. This model can be used to support teamwork and problem-solving skills for online learning environments, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. We also included some suggestions for incorporating Design Thinking into the classroom so that this model can be applied more widely.
