The objective of this study was to determine the optimal concentration of boron (B) to obtain the highest growth, yield, and oil content of black sesame. A field experiment was conducted in a completely randomized block design with five treatments and five replications. Treatments included foliar application of B at five rates: control, 50, 100, 150, and 200 mg L−1 at 25 and 35 days after sowing. Results showed that spraying B on leaves increased sesame growth in terms of plant height, number of leaves, and chlorophyll content. Moreover, spraying B increased yield components including the number of pods; the highest pods per plant was 46.2 in the B application treatment with 150 mg L−1 compared to the control with 27.2 pods per plant. The grain yield of the B spray treatment produced 1.10–1.32 t ha−1, with the highest yield at the dose of 150 mg L−1 and the lowest yield at no B spray treatment. Spraying B on leaves at optimal concentration also increased the oil content in seeds up to 5.3% compared to the control treatment. The findings of the study suggest that foliar B application with 150 mg L−1 increases the growth, fruit set, seed yield, and oil content in sesame.

In this paper, based on the established Vitae Researcher Development Framework (RDF), we introduce a new framework, tailor-made specifically for Vietnamese educational researchers, namely, Vietnam's Framework for Educational Researchers (VFER). VFER is expected to serve as a tool for Vietnamese educational researchers to self-evaluate their skills and support them in developing their career qualities from junior to senior career ladders. The framework includes four domains with ten subdomains and 28 indicators. To date, VFER has been implemented in some Vietnamese universities of pedagogical education. We expect that other research fields will look to VFER as a reference to build their own research capacity framework.

Drought is the main constraint for crop growth worldwide. Selenium reportedly plays an important role in improving plant tolerance to drought stress. In this study, two experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of foliar selenium application on the drought tolerance of sesame. Five selenium concentrations (0, 5, 10, 20, and 40 mg/L) were used in the first experiment. Water deficit was triggered 25 days after sowing. The application of 5 or 10 mg/L of selenium maintained the number of leaves and increased the number of capsules. However, higher concentrations induced necrosis. The second experiment aimed to study the effect of selenium concentrations (5 and 10 mg/L) and the number of applications (one to three times). Drought stress was triggered 50 days after sowing, and selenium was sprayed 50, 55, and 60 days after sowing. The results indicated that a one-time foliar selenium application of 5 mg/L was able to maintain the number of leaves and to increase proline accumulation, plant biomass, and grain weight per plant. This finding confirms that selenium can be applied to enhance sesame’s tolerance to drought stress.

Mục tiêu của nghiên cứu đánh giá đặc tính hình thái và hóa học của phẫu diện đất phèn nhiễm mặn ở hệ thống canh tác lúa-tôm. Mô tả đặc tính hình thái dựa trên bảng so màu Munsell đối với ba phẫu diện của xã Lộc Ninh, huyện Hồng Dân, tỉnh Bạc Liêu. Thu mẫu đất theo tầng phát sinh trên ba phẫu diện canh tác lúa-tôm để phân tích đặc tính hóa học đất. Kết quả hình thái cho thấy phẫu diện đất HD-LN-01 thuộc đất phèn tiềm tàng xuất hiện rất sâu, nhiễm mặn trong khi phẫu diện đất HD-LN-02 và HD-LN-03 được phân loại là đất phèn hoạt động xuất hiện sâu, nhiễm mặn. Đối với đặc tính hóa học, giá trị pHKCl tầng đất mặt nhỏ hơn 4,50. Hàm lượng đạm tổng số ở đất tầng mặt được đánh giá ở mức thấp, lượng đạm hữu dụng dao động 3,98-9,07 mg NH4+ kg-1. Hàm lượng tổng số được đánh giá ở mức nghèo, với hàm lượng lân dễ tiêu ở đất tầng mặt 1,93-8,34 mg P kg-1. Ngoài ra, hàm lượng lân khó tan gồm lân nhôm, lân sắt và lân calcium cao. Hàm lượng Na+ trao đổi dao động 4,17-4,99 meq Na+ 100 g-1 đất. Hàm lượng chất hữu cơ được đánh giá ở mức rất thấp đến thấp.

Nghiên cứu được thực hiện nhằm tìm ra nồng độ naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) phù hợp cho sinh trưởng và năng suất mè cao nhất. Thí nghiệm được bố trí khối hoàn toàn ngẫu nhiên với sáu nghiệm thức, năm lặp lại, mỗi lặp lại 25 m2 tại quận Ô Môn, thành phố Cần Thơ. Các nghiệm thức thí nghiệm bao gồm (i) không phun NAA (đối chứng, phun nước), (ii) phun NAA với nồng độ 25 ppm, (iii) phun NAA với nồng độ 50 ppm, (iv) phun NAA với nồng độ 75 ppm, (v) phun NAA với nồng độ 100 ppm và (vi) phun NAA với nồng độ 150 ppm. Kết quả cho thấy phun bổ sung naphthalene acetic acid với nồng độ 50 ppm đã góp phần tăng số lá/cây, chlorophyll a, chlorophyll tổng, tỉ lệ đậu trái mè, hàm lượng dinh dưỡng N, P trong lá, số trái/cây, sinh khối khô và năng suất hạt mè.

Mục tiêu của nghiên cứu là (i) xác định thời điểm xuống giống và hoạt chất sinh trưởng cho tăng năng suất mè, (ii) xác định thời điểm thu hoạch phù hợp để đạt năng suất và hàm lượng dầu trong hạt mè. Thí nghiệm 1 được bố trí 2 nhân tố: (A) thời điểm gieo sạ (sớm 14 ngày, trùng với nông dân và trễ 14 ngày so với nông dân); (B) sử dụng hoạt chất sinh trưởng (Brassinolide, Canxi-Bo và Selenium). Thí nghiệm 2 được bố trí 2 nhân tố: (A) thời điểm gieo sạ (sớm 14 ngày, trùng với nông dân và trễ 14 ngày so với nông dân), (B) thời điểm thu hoạch (85, 95 và 100% lá vàng). Mỗi nghiệm thức có 3 lần lặp lại. Kết quả cho thấy xuống giống sớm 14 ngày cho số trái trên cây, số hạt trên trái, khối lượng 1.000 hạt và năng suất cao. Phun bổ sung Canxi-Bo giúp tăng số trái trên cây mè tại Lấp Vò. Trong khi phun Brassinolide làm tăng chiều cao cây, số trái trên cây và năng suất mè tại Hồng Ngự. Thu hoạch mè vào thời điểm 95% hoặc 100% số lá chuyển vàng cho năng suất mè cao hơn so với thu hoạch mè vào thời điểm 85% lá vàng. Thu hoạch mè vào thời điểm 100% số lá chuyển vàng cho hàm lượng dầu trong hạt cao.

Abstract Background The Aedes (Stegomyia) albopictus subgroup includes 11 cryptic species of which Ae. albopictus is the most widely distributed. Its global expansion associated with a documented vector competence for several emerging arboviruses raise obvious concerns in the recently colonized regions. While several studies have provided important insights regarding medical importance of Ae. albopicus, the investigations of the other sibling species are scarce. In Asia, indigenous populations within the Ae. albopictus subgroup can be found in sympatry. In the present study, we aimed to describe and compare molecular, morphological and bacterial symbionts composition among sympatric individuals from the Ae. albopictus subgroup inhabiting a Vietnamese protected area. Results Based on morphological structure of the cibarial armarture, we identified a cryptic species in the forest park at Bù Gia Mập in the south-eastern region of Vietnam. Analysis of nuclear (ITS1-5.8S-ITS2) and mitochondrial (cox1, nad5) markers confirmed the divergence between the cryptic species and Ae. albopictus. Analysis of midgut bacterial microbiota revealed a strong similarity among the two species with a notable difference; contrary to Ae. albopictus, the cryptic species did not harbour any Wolbachia infection. Conclusions These results could reflect either a recent invasion of Wolbachia in Ae. albopictus or alternatively a loss of this symbiont in the cryptic species. We argue that neglected species of the Ae. albopictus subgroup are of main importance in order to estimate variation of host-symbionts interactions across evolution.

Mục tiêu nghiên cứu là (i) đánh giá khả năng hấp thu vi lượng của cây bắp lai trên các mô hình luân canh bắp lai với đậu xanh, mè và ớt; (ii) khảo sát sự phân bố nồng độ dưỡng chất vi lượng trong các bộ phận của cây bắp. Thí nghiệm nông trại được thực hiện trên 6 nông hộ, với diện tích mỗi lô thí nghiệm 36 m2 tại An Phú - An Giang. Các nghiệm thức gồm (i) bắp-bắp-bắp-bón phân theo phương pháp SSNM; (ii) bắp-đậu xanh-bắp; (iii) bắp-mè-bắp; (iv) đậu xanh-bắp-bắp; (v) đậu xanh-ớt-bắp và (vi) bắp-bắp-bắp- bón phân theo nông dân theo thứ tự vụ Xuân Hè, Hè Thu và Đông Xuân. Kết quả thí nghiệm cho thấy luân canh bắp lai với đậu xanh, mè và ớt chưa làm gia tăng hấp thu vi lượng Cu, Fe, Zn và Mn qua ba vụ canh tác. Cây bắp lai lấy đi lượng dưỡng chất sắt là lớn nhất và đồng là nhỏ nhất trong bốn vi lượng trên. Hàm lượng Cu, Fe, Mn tập trung chủ yếu trong lá bắp trong khi Zn lại phân bố phần lớn trong hạt bắp. Lượng dưỡng chất Cu, Fe, Zn và Mn trung bình của các nghiệm thức lấy đi theo thứ tự là 169; 2996; 408; 240 g ha-1 vào vụ Đông Xuân trên đất phù sa không bồi An Phú - An Giang.

Mục tiêu của nghiên cứu là (i) xác định hàm lượng NPK và tỉ số C/N của phân ủ với nấm Trichoderma, vi khuẩn cố định đạm Azospirillum lipoferum và vi khuẩn hòa tan lân Pseudomonas stutzeri; (ii) Đánh giá hiệu quả của phân hữu cơ vi sinh đến sinh trưởng và năng suất lúa. Thí nghiệm được bố trí theo thể thức hoàn toàn ngẫu nhiên với 5 nghiệm thức (NT) phân ủ gồm NT 1: Chỉ sử dụng rơm ủ với nấm Trichoderma (ĐC); NT 2: rơm ủ với nấm Trichoderma + phân đạm + phân lân; NT 3: rơm ủ với nấm Trichoderma + phân lân + vi sinh vật hòa tan lân Pseudomonas stutzeri; NT 4: rơm ủ với nấm Trichoderma + phân đạm + vi sinh vật cố định đạm Azospirillum lipoferum; NT 5: rơm ủ với nấm Trichoderma + phân đạm + phân lân + Vi sinh vật cố định đạm Azospirillum lipoferum + vi sinh vật hòa tan lân Pseudomonas stutzeri. Kết quả thí nghiệm cho thấy ủ phân rơm với vi khuẩn cố định đạm Azospirillum lipoferum làm tăng hàm lượng đạm trong phân hữu cơ. Tỉ số C/N của phân rơm ủ thấp nhất (15,2) khi chủng với nấm Trichderma kết hợp vi khuẩn cố định đạm Azospirillum lipoferum, trong khi chỉ chủng với nấm Trichoderma thì có tỉ số C/N cao hơn (19,65) sau 7 tuần ủ. Việc bón phân rơm ủ với nấm Trichoderma kết hợp với vi khuẩn cố định đạm Azospirillum lipoferum và vi khuẩn hòa tan lân Pseudomonas stutzeri đã làm tăng chiều cao cây lúa và thành phần năng suất lúa gồm tỉ lệ hạt chắc, trọng lượng 1000 hạt và năng suất so với bón phân rơm chỉ ủ với nấm Trichoderma. Năng suất lúa đạt 0,51 kg m-2 khi bón phân rơm ủ với nấm Trichoderma kết hợp với vi khuẩn cố định đạm và vi khuẩn hòa tan lân cao hơn so với 0,41 kg m-2 của phân rơm chỉ ủ với nấm Trichoderma.

We present results from a randomized field experiment in Da Nang in Central Vietnam. We assess the take-up and impacts of a microcredit program that aims to increase the adoption of climate resilient housing among low-income urban households. Households were randomly assigned offers of either a loan and technical assistance package or a cash transfer with a smaller loan and technical assistance. We find large and significant impacts on the resilience of the new or retrofitted houses due to being offered the more generous incentive package. Households that were offered the cash transfer and a smaller loan, are three times as likely to accept. The difference in uptake, and therefore impact, of the two packages shows that there is a need for a subsidy in addition to the technical assistance in order to reach near-poor households. Previous public spending on typhoon relief indicates that such a subsidy could be covered by re-allocating funds from typhoon repairs to damage prevention through resilient housing.
