The study aims to analyse the normal anatomical and radiographical features of the Manus of the southern Aswanian-adapted Arabian one-humped camel, providing crucial data for diagnosing and treating various ailments. Our study was applied to 10 cadaver forelimbs of adult male one-humped camels (4-5 years old) for an explanation of the gross anatomy of the bones of the Manus region from under the carpal bones by using traditional techniques, including the gross anatomical, radiographic and x-ray (at the dorsopalmar and lateral planes) of the preparation of Manus bones. Our results showed that the large fused (third and fourth) metacarpal bones, in which the fusion extended along the entire length of the bone except at the distal end, diverged to form separate articulations with cross-ponding digits. As described in all ruminant species, especially the camel, there were two digits, and each digit consisted of three phalanges and two proximal sesamoid bones. Our radiographic x-ray data revealed that the complete radiopaque septum that completely divided the medullary cavity into two separate parts was clear from the dorsopalmar view, while the lateral view showed the proximal sesamoid bones that were placed over each other and located palmar to the head of the large metacarpal bone. In conclusion, our study reveals the adaptations of the Arabian one-humped camel to Egyptian conditions, aiding in the early diagnosis of lameness and digit problems and enabling veterinarians and camel owners to better address these issues, thereby improving the overall health and well-being of these animals., (© 2024 Wiley‐VCH GmbH. 5. Plagiarism among nursing students: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

- Abstract
Aim: To summarize the findings from literature regarding the prevalence of plagiarism and its various types, knowledge, and attitudes of students toward plagiarism, factors associated with plagiarism, and the applied interventions to decrease the incidence of plagiarism., Background: Plagiarism is a major form of academic dishonesty practiced by students at all educational levels., Introduction: Academic dishonesty was defined as any unauthorized help that adds to students' formal academic performance. These dishonest behaviors can be categorized as falsifying information, hiding errors, collaborating with colleagues when not allowed, and plagiarism., Methods: Systematic search of databases was conducted in September 2021 to identify studies that discussed plagiarism in nursing studies. We included 31 studies in this systematic review and meta-analysis, with a total of 9,175 nursing students. The analysis was conducted using RevMan software., Results: Plagiarism was the most frequent academic misconduct among nursing students (practiced by 55.3%). Paraphrasing without referencing was the most practiced form (39.53%), while submitting others' work without acknowledgment was the least one (9.61%). Most students were aware of the concept of plagiarism (80.8%) and had positive ethical attitudes toward it (88.26%). Plagiarism was negatively associated with age, parenting, and completing semester credits. However, it was positively correlated with average grades and liberal educators. Plagiarism was a significant predictor of clinical misconduct., Discussion: A gap in the students' knowledge and skills were noticed. These gaps may be contributing to the high occurrence of plagiaristic acts, besides the unethical attitudes., Conclusion: Plagiarism is a serious academic misconduct practice that can be associated with subsequent clinical misconduct. There is a need to fill the knowledge and skills gap, and to set effective policies., Implication for Nursing and Health Policy: In their attempts to eliminate plagiarism, nurse educators are encouraged to provide effective educational training and practical tasks, in order to fill the gaps in knowledge and skills. Additionally, implementing clear and effective punishment policies would prevent intentional plagiaristic acts. 6. In silico design of CMV promoter binding oligonucleotides and their impact on inhibition of gene expression in Chinese hamster ovary cells.

- Abstract
Modulation of expression levels of endogenous or recombinant genes can be of great interest for diverse applications, such as the study of genotype-phenotype relationships for a gene of interest, or fine-tuning of transcription to determine physiologically relevant effects of gene expression levels. During the last decades, several synthetic biology tools were established to control gene expression in mammalian cells such as Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells, one of the most important cell systems for basic research as well as the production of biopharmaceuticals. Here we describe the use of triplex forming oligos (TFOs), short RNA or ssDNA molecules that can bind to the major grove of their target duplex with great specificity, to control transgene expression in CHO cells. For proof of concept, a panel of TFOs with a size of 10-20 nts were designed with the help of the on-line tool Triplexator targeting the viral cytomegalovirus (CMV) promoter/enhancer region controlling the downstream reporter gene hCD4. The effect of TFOs was tested as ssDNA oligos pre-annealed to the promoter/enhancer region in vitro as well as upon endogenous transcription of the TFO as an RNA molecule binding to their target duplex in vivo. Results showed that not only binding of the TFO, but the exact location of triplex formation within the promoter/enhancer is paramount for transcription inhibition. After relieving a binding conflict by introducing a point mutation within the CMV promoter, longer TFOs (26-30 nts) could be designed and analysed. - Abstract
Background: Ticagrelor and clopidogrel are antiplatelet drugs that act by binding to the adenosine diphosphate P2Y12 receptor. Previous studies have compared between them regarding the endothelial function effect., Objectives: This systematic review aims to summarize the evidence comparing the efficacy of ticagrelor vs. clopidogrel in improving endothelial function in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD)., Methods: In August 2021, the Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, and Cochrane library were searched systematically for eligible trials. We included randomized controlled trials that compared the efficacy of ticagrelor vs. clopidogrel in improving endothelial function in patients with CAD., Results: Seven trials (n = 511) were included in our systematic review. Ticagrelor resulted in a greater elevation of the level of progenitor cells CD34+ KDR+ and CD34+ 133+ (P = 0.036 and P = 0.019, respectively), with a lower rate of endothelial cell apoptosis rate (P < 0.001). Moreover, ticagrelor showed superiority regarding nitric oxide, radical oxygen species, and soluble P-selectin levels (P = 0.03, P = 0.02, and P = 0.019, respectively). 8. Efficient UAV-based mobile edge computing using differential evolution and ant colony optimization.

- Abstract
Internet of Things (IoT) tasks are offloaded to servers located at the edge network for improving the power consumption of IoT devices and the execution times of tasks. However, deploying edge servers could be difficult or even impossible in hostile terrain or emergency areas where the network is down. Therefore, edge servers are mounted on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to support task offloading in such scenarios. However, the challenge is that the UAV has limited energy, and IoT tasks are delay-sensitive. In this paper, a UAV-based offloading strategy is proposed where first, the IoT devices are dynamically clustered considering the limited energy of UAVs, and task delays, and second, the UAV hovers over each cluster head to process the offloaded tasks. The optimization problem of dynamically determining the optimal number of clusters, specifying the member tasks of each cluster, is modeled as a mixed-integer, nonlinear constraint optimization. A discrete differential evolution (DDE) algorithm with new mutation and crossover operators is proposed for the formulated optimization problem, and compared with the particle swarm optimization (PSO) and genetic algorithm (GA) meta-heuristics. Further, the ant colony optimization (ACO) algorithm is employed to identify the shortest path over the cluster heads for the UAV to traverse. 9. Surface Modification of Poly(lactic acid) Film via Cold Plasma Assisted Grafting of Fumaric and Ascorbic Acid.

- Abstract
Plant-based materials have found their application in the packaging with a yearly growing production rate. These naturally biodegradable polymers are obtained from renewable and sustainable natural resources with reduced environmental impact and affordable cost. These materials have found their utilization in fully-renewable plant-based packaging products, such as Tetra Pak
® -like containers, by replacing commonly-used polyethylene as the polymer component. Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) is one of the representative plant-based polymers because of its eco-friendliness and excellent chemical and mechanical properties. In this work, a PLA surface was modified by various food additives, namely ascorbic acid (ASA) and fumaric acid (FA), using plasma-initiated grafting reactions in order to improve the surface and adhesion properties of PLA. Various analytical and microscopic techniques were employed to prove the grafting process. Moreover, the improved adhesion of the modified PLA foil to aluminum (Al) foil in a laminate configuration was proven by peel resistance measurements. The peel resistance of modified PLA increased by 74% and 184% for samples modified by ASA and FA, respectively, compared with untreated PLA.- Published

10. High-performance simplification of triangular surfaces using a GPU.

- Abstract
Due to advances in high-performance computing technologies, computer graphics techniques-especially those related to mesh simplification-have been noticeably improved. These techniques, which have a strong impact on many applications, such as geometric modeling and visualization, have been well studied for more than two decades. Recent advances in GPUs have led to significant improvements in terms of speed and interactivity. In this paper, we present a mesh simplification algorithm that benefits from the parallel framework provided by recent GPUs. We customize the halfedge data structure for adaption with the dynamic memory restrictions of CUDA. The proposed algorithm is fully parallelized by employing a lock-free skip priority queue and a set of disjoint regions of the mesh. The proposed technique accelerates the simplification process while preserving the topological properties of the mesh. Background & Objectives: This study investigates the association of two potential Fat mass and obesity associated gene (FTO) gene polymorphisms (rs9939609 and rs918031) as potential predictors of type 2 diabetes (T2D) in obese Iraqi population and their metabolic effects on hyperglycemia and insulin sensitivity., Materials & Methods: The study included 400 participants with obesity & T2D, with a matching 400 obese non-diabetic cohort. Venous blood samples were collected for DNA extraction. Using specific primers and restriction enzymes, genotyping was performed to identify the various alleles for each gene. The genotype and allele frequencies determined by multinomial logistic regression analysis for FTO single nucleotide polymorphisms (rs9939609) among all the study groups., Results: There is a two-fold increase in the risk of T2D within the homozygous genotype (TT) group (OR = 2.43, CI 95% 3.57-11.2, P ≤ 0.001) as compared to the wild type (TA). In addition, there was a significantly higher level of the minor allele genotype (T) in T2D patients when compared to the control group, (P ≤ 0.001)., Conclusion: We conclude that the FTO rs9939609 genotype significantly affect the development of insulin resistance, therefore the future occurrence of T2D, in obese individuals., (Copyright © 2019 Diabetes India. - Abstract
Objectives: We sought to examine changes over time in the proportion of never smokers among surgical lung cancer patients and to determine whether smoking history affected survival., Methods: We performed a retrospective review of a prospective database. Among never smokers and smokers, demographic and pathological data were compared. Disease-free survival (DFS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) were analysed. Propensity matching was performed for further comparison of survival in a matched cohort., Results: Among 3232 patients, we identified 718 never smokers (22%), 993 smokers with <30 pack history (31%) and 1521 smokers with ≥30 pack history (47%). The proportion of never smokers increased over time, comprising 26.6% of the cohort after 2007 compared with 16.1% prior thereto (P ≤ 0.001). Never smokers were younger, more likely to be women and Asian, more frequently had adenocarcinoma and lower lobe tumours and were more likely to have pStage I disease. In pStage-matched cohorts, there were no differences in DFS or CSS. Similarly, in propensity-matched groups (498 patients each), there was no difference in 5-year DFS (66% vs 67%, P = 0.661) or in CSS (84% vs 81%, P = 0.350). On univariate analysis of the matched cohort, never smoking status had no effect on DFS (hazard ratio 1.05, P = 0.661) or CSS (hazard ratio 1.16, P = 0.350)., Conclusions: The proportion of never smokers undergoing resections for lung cancer is increasing. Never smokers have distinct demographic patterns and tend to be younger women with adenocarcinoma. Despite these differences, stage and propensity-matched never smokers have the same survival as smokers and remain at equal risk for recurrence and death.

- Abstract
Background: The variation of the SNPs in FTO (fat mass and obesity associated) gene are improved to be associated with obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2DM) in some ethnic groups for example in European while, this consistency is controversial in Asians and there were few studies in Iraqi population about the effect of this gene on the development of T2DM in obese patients. Therefore, the objective of this study is to investigate the impact of the two common FTO gene variants in the development of T2DM in obese Iraqi patients., Methods: A case-control study in which the FTO gene variants rs9939609 and rs17817449 were genotyping in a total of 800 individuals, 400 T2DM obese patients (patients group) and 400 healthy control obese volunteers (control group) to explore the relation of these SNPs with T2DM in obese Iraqi population. The patients group was enrolled from diabetic clinic in Al Najaf al Ashraf based on WHO guidelines of T2DM. From whole blood the DNA was extraction and genotyped by using ScaI and AlwNI enzymes respectively in the PCR-RFLP technique. Multinomial logistic regression was applied to compare the proportions of genotypes and alleles. The odd's ratio, t-test P value at 95% confidence interval were measured before and after adjustment of BMI, age and sex adjustment. The genetic power, Hardy Weinberg equilibrium and haplotype analysis were tested in the present study., Results: It was observed that the presence of T allele in the two SNPs rs9939609 and rs17817449 in the FTO gene polymorphisms was associated with increased risk for the development of T2DM in Iraqi obese individuals. The minor allele (T) in rs9939609 was significantly higher (P=0.0001) in T2DM (31.25%) when compared with that of the control obese group (20%). The Homozygous genotype (TT) significantly (OR=3.25, CI 95% 1.87-5.64, P=0.000) increased the risk of T2DM by three folds with respect to those of wild type (AA) after adjustment for age, sex and BMI, furthermore, it was significantly increased the risk in the dominant, recessive and additive models (P=0.000,0.000 and 0.0001 respectively). The T allele in rs17817449 was also significantly higher (P=0.0001) in patients group (36.25%) when compared with that of the control group (27.25%). The Heterozygous genotype (TG) significantly (OR=2.24, CI 95% 1.65-3.04, P=0.000) increased the risk of T2DM more than two folds with respect to those of wild type (GG) after adjustment for age, sex and BMI, and it was significantly increased the risk in the dominant models (P=0.000). In the relation to the phenotypic parameters the two SNPs were significantly associated with increased BMI, LDL, insulin and HOMA-IR and a decrease the HDL levels., Conclusion: The FTO gene polymorphisms rs9939609 and rs17817449 play a role in the in the development of insulin resistance and hence occurrence of type 2 DM in obese patients., (Copyright © 2017 Elsevier B.V. 14. Laparoscopic donor nephrectomy: The Middle East experience.

- Abstract
Objectives: To summarize the experience of the Middle East in laparoscopic donor nephrectomy (LDN), to discuss the associated advantages and salient problems, to examine the learning curve encountered compared with that of the pioneering centres in the West, and the contribution of the regional centres to the worldwide experience., Methods: We searched Medline and PubMed for all centres performing LDN in the Middle East. Questionnaires were e-mailed to the regional transplantation centres, and programme directors, and leading urological and transplant surgeons were contacted by telephone., Results: LDN in the Middle East was first introduced in 2000; this approach has been pioneered and practised at seven transplant centres within five countries in the region, and was restricted to only three Arab countries, i.e. Lebanon, Egypt and Kuwait. Data collection yielded a total of 888 procedures over one decade, representing only 2% of the total of ≈50,000 transplants during the same period. Despite variability of accurate reporting the overall outcomes were similar to those of open DN. The spectrum of complications was comparable to that from major centres in the USA during their learning curve., Conclusions: The introduction of LDN in the Middle East has been gratifying. The relative hesitancy in introducing LDN in the rest of the Arab Middle East is multifaceted. The advantages conferred to the donor underscore the need for further expansion of this approach for kidney retrieval.

16. Laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair.

- Abstract
Open hernia repair is associated with significant postoperative pain and disability resulting in delayed return to full activity. Laparoscopic hernia repair has been advocated as the procedure that combines the benefit of tension-free repair with the preservation of the basic anatomy of the inguinal area. We present our experience with 803 laparoscopic hernia repairs in 517 patients over a period of 66 months (August 92 to February 98). The effects of the learning curve and the refinement of the technique had their impact on earlier results and complications. However, with more experience we found that the laparoscopic preperitoneal approach is safe and efficacious. There was no mortality. Most patients (85%) were discharged home within 24 h of the procedure and returned to full activity within 10 days. Patient satisfaction was excellent. The complication rate decreased and operative time was reduced with experience. This procedure is clearly indicated in patients who have recurrent or bilateral hernias. It is associated with shorter convalescence and a quick return to work.

- Abstract
A pseudoaneurysm was diagnosed by ultrasound of popliteal fossa in a 40-year-old female following arthroscopic meniscectomy. The patient was treated successfully with a reversed saphenous vein graft (SVG). This case is used to review the literature concerning the complications of arthroscopic meniscectomy.

- Abstract
A retrospective study of 46 patients who received bupivacaine local injections after hemorrhoidectomy were compared to a matching group of 46 patients of similar age and sex distribution who underwent the same operation. Pain medications requirement on the same day of operation and on subsequent days were measured and found to be the same in both groups. The incidence of urinary retention was equal in both groups. However, the group receiving bupivacaine had a shorter hospital stay. In this respect, local injection of bupivacaine after hemorrhoidectomy may have a role in making patients more comfortable and shortening hospital stay.

- Abstract
Two hundred thirty-six limbs of 220 unselected patients who were admitted with venous problems (83 with ulcers) were studied with continuous-wave Doppler ultrasonography, duplex scanning, and ambulatory venous pressure measurements. Patients with evidence of deep venous disease because of reflux or obstruction in the deep veins on Doppler and duplex ultrasonic examination or with an ambulatory venous pressure greater than 45 mm Hg despite the ankle cuff had venography. One hundred fifty-three limbs had superficial venous disease (reflux in the superficial veins with competent popliteal valves), and 83 limbs had deep venous disease (popliteal reflux on duplex examination or deep venous obstruction on venography). No ulceration occurred in limbs with ambulatory venous pressure < 30 mm Hg, and there was a 100% incidence with ambulatory venous pressure > 90 mm Hg. A linear increase occurred from 14% in limbs with ambulatory venous pressure between 31 and 40 mm Hg to 100% in limbs with ambulatory venous pressure greater than 90 mm Hg (r = 0.79). In the groups studied, an increased incidence of ulceration was associated with an increase in ambulatory venous pressure irrespective of whether the venous problem was the result of superficial or deep venous disease. Ambulatory venous pressure has both diagnostic and prognostic significance in patients with venous disease.

- Abstract
Two cases of aortopopliteal and axillopopliteal bypass grafts done for limb salvage are reported. These extra-anatomical bypass grafts are valuable in patients who cannot otherwise undergo anatomical bypass grafts.
