Abstract: The isotopic compositions of samples returned from Cb-type asteroid Ryugu and Ivuna-type (CI) chondrites are distinct from other carbonaceous chondrites, which has led to the suggestion that Ryugu and CI chondrites formed in a different region of the accretion disk, possibly around the orbits of Uranus and Neptune. We show that, like for Fe, Ryugu and CI chondrites also have indistinguishable Ni isotope anomalies, which differ from those of other carbonaceous chondrites. We propose that this unique Fe and Ni isotopic composition reflects different accretion efficiencies of small FeNi metal grains among the carbonaceous chondrite parent bodies. The CI chondrites incorporated these grains more efficiently, possibly because they formed at the end of the disk's lifetime, when planetesimal formation was also triggered by photoevaporation of the disk. Isotopic variations among carbonaceous chondrites may thus reflect fractionation of distinct dust components from a common reservoir, implying CI chondrites and Ryugu may have formed in the same region of the accretion disk as other carbonaceous chondrites., Comment: Published open access in Science Advances

2. A Tri-State Study of Middle School Teachers' Perceptions of Generation Alpha Students: Are Middle Schools Ready for 'Generation Glass?'

Abstract: The passage to middle school has been identified as a confusing period for adolescents, involving a series of major transitions. A new variable that permeates these already lofty transitions is the firm entrenchment of Generation Alpha in the middle grades classroom, a cohort that includes anyone born from 2010 onward, making them the first generation born and shaped entirely in the twenty-first century. The purpose of this study was to explore the attitudes and perceptions of current middle school teachers across Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio toward their Gen Alpha students so as to uncover the concrete issues these teachers encounter as they work with this undeniably unique cohort. A total of 139 teachers responded to the researcher-generated electronic survey, which was coded inductively and analyzed for content. The feedback points to a cohort that is digitally literate with great adaptability, but also a cohort that exhibits delayed social development and a myriad of global concerns. These factors all have implications for the ways they learn, interact, and function in the middle school classroom.

4. Status of QCD precision predictions for Drell-Yan processes

Abstract: We compute differential distributions for Drell-Yan processes at the LHC and the Tevatron colliders at next-to-next-to-leading order in perturbative QCD, including fiducial cuts on the decay leptons in the final state. The comparison of predictions obtained with four different codes shows excellent agreement, once linear power corrections from the fiducial cuts are included in those codes that rely on phase-space slicing subtraction schemes. For $Z$-boson production we perform a detailed study of the symmetric cuts on the transverse momenta of the decay leptons. Predictions at fixed order in perturbative QCD for those symmetric cuts, typically imposed in experiments, suffer from an instability. We show how this can be remedied by an all-order resummation of the fiducial transverse momentum spectrum, and we comment on the choice of cuts for future experimental analyses., Comment: 31 pages LaTeX, 13 figures

Abstract: We explore the bound neutrons decay into invisible particles (e.g., $n\rightarrow 3 \nu$ or $nn \rightarrow 2 \nu$) in the JUNO liquid scintillator detector. The invisible decay includes two decay modes: $ n \rightarrow { inv} $ and $ nn \rightarrow { inv} $. The invisible decays of $s$-shell neutrons in $^{12}{\rm C}$ will leave a highly excited residual nucleus. Subsequently, some de-excitation modes of the excited residual nuclei can produce a time- and space-correlated triple coincidence signal in the JUNO detector. Based on a full Monte Carlo simulation informed with the latest available data, we estimate all backgrounds, including inverse beta decay events of the reactor antineutrino $\bar{\nu}_e$, natural radioactivity, cosmogenic isotopes and neutral current interactions of atmospheric neutrinos. Pulse shape discrimination and multivariate analysis techniques are employed to further suppress backgrounds. With two years of exposure, JUNO is expected to give an order of magnitude improvement compared to the current best limits. Abstract: The identification of a hadron in the final state of hadron-collider events that feature a leptonically decaying vector boson can provide essential information on the parton content of the colliding protons. Moreover, the study of hadrons inside jets can provide deeper insights into the fragmentation dynamics. We provide theoretical predictions for specific observables involving either the production of a $Z$ boson in association with light charged hadrons inside a jet or the production of a $W$ boson together with a charmed hadron. We present results for various fragmentation functions and compare our predictions with measurements by LHCb and ATLAS at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV. Our predictions are obtained using the antenna subtraction formalism which has been extended to cope with infrared singularities associated to the fragmentation processes in a hadron-collider environment at NLO accuracy.

Abstract: Prostate cancer is a dominant health concern calling for advanced diagnostic tools. Utilizing digital pathology and artificial intelligence, this study explores the potential of 11 deep neural network architectures for automated Gleason grading in prostate carcinoma focusing on comparing traditional and recent architectures. A standardized image classification pipeline, based on the AUCMEDI framework, facilitated robust evaluation using an in-house dataset consisting of 34,264 annotated tissue tiles. The results indicated varying sensitivity across architectures, with ConvNeXt demonstrating the strongest performance. Notably, newer architectures achieved superior performance, even though with challenges in differentiating closely related Gleason grades. The ConvNeXt model was capable of learning a balance between complexity and generalizability. Overall, this study lays the groundwork for enhanced Gleason grading systems, potentially improving diagnostic efficiency for prostate cancer.

Abstract: Advances in digital pathology and artificial intelligence (AI) offer promising opportunities for clinical decision support and enhancing diagnostic workflows. Previous studies already demonstrated AI's potential for automated Gleason grading, but lack state-of-the-art methodology and model reusability. To address this issue, we propose DeepGleason: an open-source deep neural network based image classification system for automated Gleason grading using whole-slide histopathology images from prostate tissue sections. Implemented with the standardized AUCMEDI framework, our tool employs a tile-wise classification approach utilizing fine-tuned image preprocessing techniques in combination with a ConvNeXt architecture which was compared to various state-of-the-art architectures. The neural network model was trained and validated on an in-house dataset of 34,264 annotated tiles from 369 prostate carcinoma slides. We demonstrated that DeepGleason is capable of highly accurate and reliable Gleason grading with a macro-averaged F1-score of 0.806, AUC of 0.991, and Accuracy of 0.974. The internal architecture comparison revealed that the ConvNeXt model was superior performance-wise on our dataset to established and other modern architectures like transformers. Furthermore, we were able to outperform the current state-of-the-art in tile-wise fine-classification with a sensitivity and specificity of 0.94 and 0.98 for benign vs malignant detection as well as of 0.91 and 0.75 for Gleason 3 vs Gleason 4 & 5 classification, respectively. Our tool contributes to the wider adoption of AI-based Gleason grading within the research community and paves the way for broader clinical application of deep learning models in digital pathology. 13. Mixed NNLO QCD $\times$ electroweak corrections to single-Z production in pole approximation: differential distributions and forward-backward asymmetry

Abstract: Radiative corrections in pole approximation, which are based on the leading contribution in a systematic expansion of amplitudes about resonance poles, naturally decompose into factorizable corrections attributed to the production or decay of the resonance and non-factorizable corrections induced by soft photon (or gluon) exchange between those subprocesses. In this paper we complete an earlier calculation of mixed QCD$\times$electroweak corrections of $\mathcal{O}(\alpha_s\alpha)$ to the neutral-current Drell-Yan cross section in pole approximation by including the previously neglected corrections that are solely related to the Z-boson production process. We present numerical results both for differential distributions and for the forward-backward asymmetry differential in the lepton-pair invariant mass, which is the key observable in the measurement of the effective weak mixing angle at the LHC. Abstract: Vicsek fractal graphs are an important class of infinite graphs with self similar properties, polynomial growth and treelike features, on which several dynamical processes such as random walks or Abelian sandpiles can be rigorously analyzed and one can obtain explicit closed form expressions. While such processes on Vicsek fractals and on Euclidean lattices $\mathbb{Z}^2$ share some properties for instance in the recurrence behaviour, many quantities related to sandpiles on Euclidean lattices are still poorly understood. The current work focuses on the stabilization and explosion of Abelian sandpiles on Vicsek fractal graphs, and we prove that a sandpile sampled from the infinite volume limit plus one additional particle stabilizes with probability 3/4, that is, it does not stabilize almost surely and it explodes with the complementary probability 1/4. We prove the main result by using two different approaches: one of probabilistic nature and one of algebraic flavor. The first approach is based on investigating the particles sent to the boundary of finite volumes and showing that their number stays above four with positive probability. In the second approach we relate the question of stabilization and explosion of sandpiles in infinite volume to the order of elements of the sandpile group on finite approximations of the infinite Vicsek graph. The method applies to more general state spaces and by employing it we also find all invariant factors of the sandpile groups on the finite approximations of the infinite Vicsek fractal., Comment: some improvements and minor corrections!

Abstract: BACKGROUND: Overweight and obesity impose a considerable individual and social burden, and the urban environments might encompass factors that contribute to obesity. Nevertheless, there is a scarcity of research that takes into account the simultaneous interaction of multiple environmental factors. OBJECTIVES: Our objective was to perform an exposome-wide association study of body mass index (BMI) in a multicohort setting of 15 studies. METHODS: Studies were affiliated with the Dutch Geoscience and Health Cohort Consortium (GECCO), had different population sizes (688-141,825), and covered the entire Netherlands. Ten studies contained general population samples, others focused on specific populations including people with diabetes or impaired hearing. BMI was calculated from self-reported or measured height and weight. Associations with 69 residential neighborhood environmental factors (air pollution, noise, temperature, neighborhood socioeconomic and demographic factors, food environment, drivability, and walkability) were explored. Random forest (RF) regression addressed potential nonlinear and nonadditive associations. In the absence of formal methods for multimodel inference for RF, a rank aggregation-based meta-analytic strategy was used to summarize the results across the studies. RESULTS: Six exposures were associated with BMI: five indicating neighborhood economic or social environments (average home values, percentage of high-income residents, average income, livability score, share of single residents) and one indicating the physical activity environment (walkability in 5-km buffer area). Living in high-income neighborhoods and neighborhoods with higher livability scores was associated with lower BMI. Nonlinear associations were observed with neighborhood home values in all studies. Lower neighborhood home values were associated with higher BMI scores but only for values up to [euro]300,000. The directions of associations were less consistent for walkability and share of single residents. DISCUSSION: Rank aggregation made it possible to flexibly combine the results from various studies, although between-study heterogeneity could not be estimated quantitatively based on RF models. Abstract: The core-collapse supernova (CCSN) is considered one of the most energetic astrophysical events in the universe. The early and prompt detection of neutrinos before (pre-SN) and during the supernova (SN) burst presents a unique opportunity for multi-messenger observations of CCSN events. In this study, we describe the monitoring concept and present the sensitivity of the system to pre-SN and SN neutrinos at the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO), a 20 kton liquid scintillator detector currently under construction in South China. The real-time monitoring system is designed to ensure both prompt alert speed and comprehensive coverage of progenitor stars. It incorporates prompt monitors on the electronic board as well as online monitors at the data acquisition stage. Assuming a false alert rate of 1 per year, this monitoring system exhibits sensitivity to pre-SN neutrinos up to a distance of approximately 1.6 (0.9) kiloparsecs and SN neutrinos up to about 370 (360) kiloparsecs for a progenitor mass of 30 solar masses, considering both normal and inverted mass ordering scenarios. The pointing ability of the CCSN is evaluated by analyzing the accumulated event anisotropy of inverse beta decay interactions from pre-SN or SN neutrinos. Abstract: Abstract Allosteric transcription factors (aTF) regulate gene expression through conformational changes induced by small molecule binding. Although widely used as biosensors, aTFs have proven challenging to design for detecting new molecules because mutation of ligand-binding residues often disrupts allostery. Here, we develop Sensor-seq, a high-throughput platform to design and identify aTF biosensors that bind to non-native ligands. We screen a library of 17,737 variants of the aTF TtgR, a regulator of a multidrug exporter, against six non-native ligands of diverse chemical structures – four derivatives of the cancer therapeutic tamoxifen, the antimalarial drug quinine, and the opiate analog naltrexone – as well as two native flavonoid ligands, naringenin and phloretin. Sensor-seq identifies biosensors for each of these ligands with high dynamic range and diverse specificity profiles. The structure of a naltrexone-bound design shows shape-complementary methionine-aromatic interactions driving ligand specificity. To demonstrate practical utility, we develop cell-free detection systems for naltrexone and quinine. Sensor-seq enables rapid and scalable design of new biosensors, overcoming constraints of natural biosensors.

21. Twenty-first century global glacier evolution under CMIP6 scenarios and the role of glacier-specific observations

Abstract: Projecting the global evolution of glaciers is crucial to quantify future sea-level rise and changes in glacier-fed rivers. Recent intercomparison efforts have shown that a large part of the uncertainties in the projected glacier evolution is driven by the glacier model itself and by the data used for initial conditions and calibration. Here, we quantify the effect that mass balance observations, one of the most crucial data sources used in glacier modelling, have on glacier projections. For this, we model the 21st century global glacier evolution under Coupled Model Intercomparison Phase 6 project (CMIP6) climate scenarios with the Global Glacier Evolution Model (GloGEM) calibrated to match glacier-specific mass balance observations, as opposed to relying on regional mass balance observations. We find that the differences in modelled 21st century glacier changes can be large at the scale of individual glaciers (up to several tens of percent), but tend to average out at regional to global scales (a few percent at most). Our study thus indicates that the added value of relying on glacier-specific observations is at the subregional and local scale, which will increasingly allow projecting the glacier-specific evolution and local impacts for every individual glacier on Earth. To increase the ensemble of models that project global glacier evolution under CMIP6 scenarios, simulations are also performed with the Open Global Glacier Model (OGGM). We project the 2015–2100 global glacier loss to vary between 25 ± 15 % (GloGEM) and 29 ± 14 % (OGGM) under SSP1-2.6 to 46 ± 26 % and 54 ± 29 % under SSP5-8.5 (ensemble median, with 95 % confidence interval; calibration with glacier-specific observations). Despite some differences at the regional scale and a slightly more pronounced sensitivity to changing climatic conditions, our results agree well with the recent projections by Rounce et al. (2023), thereby projecting, for any emission scenario, a higher 21st century mass loss than the current community estimate from the second phase of the Glacier Model Intercomparison Project (GlacierMIP2).

22. Living in the vicinity of pesticide-treated crop fields: Exploring associated perceptions and psychological aspects in relation to self-reported and registry-based health symptoms

Abstract: Abstract Background Exposure to pesticides in the living environment can be associated with the prevalence of health symptoms. This study investigates associations between health symptoms among residents in areas with fruit crop fields where pesticides are applied, and psychological perceptions and attitudes about environmental aspects and exposures. Methods A cross-sectional survey combined with routine primary care electronic health records (EHR) data was conducted in 2017 in rural areas of the Netherlands with high concentration of fruit crops (n = 3,321, aged ≥ 16 years). Individual exposure to pesticides was estimated using geocoded data on fruit crops around the home. Validated instruments were used to assess symptom report and psychological perceptions and attitudes. Annual prevalence of various health symptoms was derived from EHRs. Multilevel regression models were used to analyze associations between health symptoms (outcome), fruit crops, and multiple psychological perceptions and attitudes (confounders). Results Living in the vicinity of fruit crop fields was generally not associated with self-reported symptom duration and general practitioner (GP) registered symptoms. For self-reported symptoms, symptom prevalence decreased when crop density within 250 m and 500 m from the home increased. No associations were found at other distances. Furthermore, higher levels of environmental worries, perceived exposure, and perceived sensitivity to pesticides and attribution of symptoms to environmental exposures were generally associated with a higher number of self-reported symptoms, and longer symptom duration. Symptoms reported to GPs were not associated with psychological perceptions and attitudes, except for perceived sensitivity to pesticides. Conclusion Psychological perceptions and attitudes appear to be related to self-reported symptoms, but not to GP-registered symptoms, independent of the actual levels of exposure as measured by the size of the area of crop fields. Perceptions about environmental factors should be taken into account in environmental health risk assessment research when studying health symptoms.

Abstract: Abstract Background Diagnosing multiple sclerosis (MS) is challenging due to diverse symptoms and the absence of specific biomarkers. Concurrent autoimmune diseases (AID) or non-specific antibodies further complicate diagnosis, progression monitoring, and management. Data on AID prevalence in MS patients are sparse. This study aims to identify concurrent AIDs alongside MS. Methods In this retrospective single-center study, we analyzed patient records at our university hospital from 2010 to 2017, focusing on cases suspected of inflammatory demyelinating disease. The 2017 McDonald criteria were applied. Additionally, we measured neurofilament light (NfL) levels from available CSF samples in our biobank. Results We identified a total of 315 patients, of whom 66% were women. In total, 13.7% of all patients had concurrent AID, while 20.3% had isolated antibody findings without AID. The most common AID was autoimmune thyroiditis (8.9%), followed by chronic inflammatory skin diseases (1.6%), arthritis (1%), type 1 diabetes (1%), Sjögren’s syndrome (0.6%), and inflammatory bowel diseases (0.6%). Cardiolipin antibodies were the most frequent isolated antibody finding (8.6%). Our data showed that, from the perspective of the initial demyelinating event, neither comorbid AID nor isolated antibodies significantly influenced relapses or MS progression over a median follow-up of 9 months. Standard CSF parameters and NfL levels were similar between the groups at the time of MS diagnosis. Conclusion Our study shows that AIDs, particularly autoimmune thyroiditis, frequently occur at the onset of MS. The proportion of AIDs commonly treated with immunomodulatory therapy in our cohort was similar to that observed in the general population. Comorbid AID did not affect NfL levels, indicating similar disease activity. Future research should explore new AID emergence during the course of MS, especially considering the increased incidence of rheumatic diseases later in life.

24. Multi-scale correlation of impact-induced defects in carbon fiber composites using X-ray scattering and machine learning

Abstract: Abstract Impact-induced defects in carbon fiber-reinforced polymers (CFRPs)-spanning from nanometer to macroscopic length scales-can be monitored using an aggregate of X-ray-based methods, but this is impractical in typical field conditions. We report on a low-velocity impacted CFRP, which is mapped using small- and wide-angle X-ray scattering and X-ray computed tomography, and employ machine learning for correlating material parameterizations derived from these techniques. The observed 1 $$\mu$$ μ m to 1 mm-sized defects are parameterized in terms of relative density and fiber orientation indicative of fiber failures (kink bands), and the nanometer sized defects in terms of crystal size and unit cell frustration. The 30 to 300 nm defects are parameterized by a power-law scattering decay, differentiating fractal-like behaviors. We find three spatial domains experimentally and by K-means Clustering: Domains of severe damage (with a visual dent), intact domains (without visual or measurable defects) and a transition domain (defects measurable by X-rays). How the parameters are correlated and how they overlap between the domains are discussed. All parameters are able to point to the detrimental fiber breakage in the severe damage domain, and scattering decay also in the transition domain, for example. How individual parameters determined from one experimental technique can be predicted from that of another is also described.

Abstract: Abstract The identification of a hadron in the final state of hadron-collider events that feature a leptonically decaying vector boson can provide essential information on the parton content of the colliding protons. Moreover, the study of hadrons inside jets can provide deeper insights into the fragmentation dynamics. We provide theoretical predictions for specific observables involving either the production of a Z boson in association with light charged hadrons inside a jet or the production of a W boson together with a charmed hadron. We present results for various fragmentation functions and compare our predictions with measurements by LHCb and ATLAS at s $$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 13 TeV. Our predictions are obtained using the antenna subtraction formalism which has been extended to cope with infrared singularities associated to the fragmentation processes in a hadron-collider environment at NLO accuracy.

26. 'I'm No Longer Myself Anymore': Burnout and Coping of Educators-Caregivers in Day-Care Centres in Israel

Abstract: This study investigates the burnout and coping in the work experience of educators-caregivers (ECs) employed in early childhood day-care centers in Israel, given that the interaction between ECs and children is a decisive factor in the quality of care for children. The study included 40 participants and used qualitative-phenomenological and arts-based approaches in both individual and group interviews. Informed by the literature on burnout, feminist theory, and a coping model, we found that while the ECs' strength lay in experiencing childcare as meaningful and rewarding, they lacked enabling working conditions. Specifically, the high number of children per EC, lack of institutional support, and parents' negative attitudes added to their daily stress and eroded their sense of self. In giving voice to the ECs as experts navigating complex realities, this study contributes to the understanding of their burnout and coping from interpersonal and social perspectives.

In particular, we give an algorithmic approach for calculating the height probabilities of recurrent sandpiles under stationarity on finite iterations of the Sierpinski graphs by using the connection between recurrent configurations of the Abelian sandpile Markov chain and uniform spanning trees. We also calculate the expected fraction of vertices of height i for $i\in\{0,1,2,3\}$ and expected bulk average height of sandpiles under stationarity and relate it to the looping constant on the Sierpinski gasket.

Abstract: We discuss JUNO sensitivity to the annihilation of MeV dark matter in the galactic halo via detecting inverse beta decay reactions of electron anti-neutrinos resulting from the annihilation. We study possible backgrounds to the signature, including the reactor neutrinos, diffuse supernova neutrino background, charged- and neutral-current interactions of atmospheric neutrinos, backgrounds from muon-induced fast neutrons and cosmogenic isotopes. A fiducial volume cut, as well as the pulse shape discrimination and the muon veto are applied to suppress the above backgrounds. It is shown that JUNO sensitivity to the thermally averaged dark matter annihilation rate in 10 years of exposure would be significantly better than the present-day best limit set by Super-Kamiokande and would be comparable to that expected by Hyper-Kamiokande., Comment: 25 pages, 9 figures, matches the publised version

Abstract: Studies of material returned from Cb asteroid Ryugu have revealed considerable mineralogical and chemical heterogeneity, stemming primarily from brecciation and aqueous alteration. Isotopic anomalies could have also been affected by delivery of exogenous clasts and aqueous mobilization of soluble elements. Here, we show that isotopic anomalies for mildly soluble Cr are highly variable in Ryugu and CI chondrites, whereas those of Ti are relatively uniform. This variation in Cr isotope ratios is most likely due to physicochemical fractionation between 54Cr-rich presolar nanoparticles and Cr-bearing secondary minerals at the millimeter-scale in the bulk samples, likely due to extensive aqueous alteration in their parent bodies that occurred [Formula: see text] after Solar System birth. In contrast, Ti isotopes were marginally affected by this process. Our results show that isotopic heterogeneities in asteroids are not all nebular or accretionary in nature but can also reflect element redistribution by water.

32. Frostbite injuries related to recreational nitrous oxide use: incidence, management, and complications in a Swedish case series

Abstract: Background: Nitrous oxide (N2O) use in recreational settings has been increasing in Sweden and Europe and consequently, the related injuries are also increasing. We aimed to investigate the incidence, management, and surgical outcomes of frostbite injury (FI) related to N2O use. Material and Method: All patients in a 22-month period from 2021 to 2022 presenting with FI related to N2O abuse from 2 plastic surgery clinics (1 national burn center) were identified. Data regarding patient comorbidity, mechanism of injury, initial management, treatment, and follow-up were investigated. Complications following surgery were categorized into minor (treated in outpatient setting) and major (requiring reoperation) complications. Results: In total, 9 patients were identified; among them, 5 patients provided consent and were included in the study. Direct contact with the gas canister was the most common injury mechanism (n = 4). All but 1 patient contracted full-thickness injuries, and these 4 patients later required surgery. The medial thigh was the most common area of injury. Outpatient clinic visits were common (mean 4.8 visits/patient). Surgical complications were common and all operated patients were diagnosed with minor complications and half of them with major complications (wound dehiscence and scar contracture). Conclusion: Frostbite injuries arising from recreational N2O use are complex and often require surgical intervention that may lead to complications. With the increasing incidence of N2O abuse in Sweden, further research is crucial to address this emerging public health concerns and optimize treatment strategies for these distinctive injuries.

Abstract: The main task of the Top Tracker detector of the neutrino reactor experiment Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) is to reconstruct and extrapolate atmospheric muon tracks down to the central detector. This muon tracker will help to evaluate the contribution of the cosmogenic background to the signal. The Top Tracker is located above JUNO's water Cherenkov Detector and Central Detector, covering about 60% of the surface above them. The JUNO Top Tracker is constituted by the decommissioned OPERA experiment Target Tracker modules. The technology used consists in walls of two planes of plastic scintillator strips, one per transverse direction. Wavelength shifting fibres collect the light signal emitted by the scintillator strips and guide it to both ends where it is read by multianode photomultiplier tubes. Compared to the OPERA Target Tracker, the JUNO Top Tracker uses new electronics able to cope with the high rate produced by the high rock radioactivity compared to the one in Gran Sasso underground laboratory. Abstract: The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO), the first multi-kton liquid scintillator detector, which is under construction in China, will have a unique potential to perform a real-time measurement of solar neutrinos well below the few MeV threshold typical for Water Cherenkov detectors. JUNO's large target mass and excellent energy resolution are prerequisites for reaching unprecedented levels of precision. In this paper, we provide estimation of the JUNO sensitivity to 7Be, pep, and CNO solar neutrinos that can be obtained via a spectral analysis above the 0.45 MeV threshold. This study is performed assuming different scenarios of the liquid scintillator radiopurity, ranging from the most opti mistic one corresponding to the radiopurity levels obtained by the Borexino experiment, up to the minimum requirements needed to perform the neutrino mass ordering determination with reactor antineutrinos - the main goal of JUNO. Our study shows that in most scenarios, JUNO will be able to improve the current best measurements on 7Be, pep, and CNO solar neutrino fluxes. We also perform a study on the JUNO capability to detect periodical time variations in the solar neutrino flux, such as the day-night modulation induced by neutrino flavor regeneration in Earth, and the modulations induced by temperature changes driven by helioseismic waves.

Abstract: Burn mass casualty event occurrences are rare but will place significant burdens on any burn unit or healthcare system. Effective disaster preparedness plays a significant role in mitigating the aftermath of a burn mass casualty. The aim of this study was to assess the resource requirements during the initial two weeks of a burn mass casualty event. Eight patients in a burn mass casualty event were simulated using the Emergo Train System®. These simulated patients were matched with real historical patients treated in our burn centre, and their resource requirements were analysed. An average of eight staff is required to care for a patient per day along with almost 75 h of operating time (excluding anaesthesia and turnover time). A substantial quantity of consumables was used in the first two weeks. This study has demonstrated the substantial material consumption and staff requirements in the first two weeks of management in a burn mass casualty event. Such findings will offer valuable insight for disaster preparedness planning and resource management strategies.

Abstract: Observations of glacier mass changes are key to understanding the response of glaciers to climate change and related impacts, such as regional runoff, ecosystem changes, and global sea level rise. Spaceborne optical and radar sensors make it possible to quantify glacier elevation changes, and thus multi-annual mass changes, on a regional and global scale. However, estimates from a growing number of studies show a wide range of results with differences often beyond uncertainty bounds. Here, we present the outcome of a community-based inter-comparison experiment using spaceborne optical stereo (ASTER) and synthetic aperture radar interferometry (TanDEM-X) data to estimate elevation changes for defined glaciers and target periods that pose different assessment challenges. Using provided or self-processed digital elevation models (DEMs) for five test sites, 12 research groups provided a total of 97 spaceborne elevation-change datasets using various processing approaches. Validation with airborne data showed that using an ensemble estimate is promising to reduce random errors from different instruments and processing methods but still requires a more comprehensive investigation and correction of systematic errors. We found that scene selection, DEM processing, and co-registration have the biggest impact on the results. Other processing steps, such as treating spatial data voids, differences in survey periods, or radar penetration, can still be important for individual cases. Future research should focus on testing different implementations of individual processing steps (e.g. co-registration) and addressing issues related to temporal corrections, radar penetration, glacier area changes, and density conversion. Finally, there is a clear need for our community to develop best practices, use open, reproducible software, and assess overall uncertainty to enhance inter-comparison and empower physical process insights across glacier elevation-change studies.

46. Occupational exposure to benzene and mortality risk of lymphohaematopoietic cancers in the Swiss National Cohort

Abstract: OBJECTIVES: Previous studies established a causal relationship between occupational benzene exposure and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). However, mixed results have been reported for associations between benzene exposure and other myeloid and lymphoid malignancies. Our work examined whether occupational benzene exposure is associated with increased mortality from overall lymphohaematopoietic (LH) cancer and major subtypes. METHODS: Mortality records were linked to a Swiss census-based cohort from two national censuses in 1990 and 2000. Cases were defined as having any LH cancers registered in death certificates. We assessed occupational exposure by applying a quantitative benzene job-exposure matrix (BEN-JEM) to census-reported occupations. Exposure was calculated as the products of exposure proportions and levels (P × L). Cox proportional hazards models were used to calculate LH cancer death hazard ratios (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) associated with benzene exposure, continuously and in ordinal categories. RESULTS: Our study included approximately 2.97 million persons and 13 415 LH cancer cases, including 3055 cases with benzene exposure. We observed increased mortality risks per unit (P × L) increase in continuous benzene exposure for AML (HR 1.03, 95% CI 1.00–1.06) and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (HR 1.09, 95% CI 1.04–1.14). When exposure was assessed categorically, increasing trends in risks were observed with increasing benzene exposure for AML (P=0.04), diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (P=0.02), and follicular lymphoma (P=0.05). CONCLUSION: In a national cohort from Switzerland, we found that occupational exposure to benzene is associated with elevated mortality risks for AML, diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, and possibly follicular lymphoma.

47. Total Body Surface Area Adjusted Daily Diagnostic Blood Loss May Be Higher in Minor Burns—Are Our Patients the Victims of Daily Routine?

Abstract: Burns are common and devastating injuries, often necessitating intensive care treatment and long-term hospitalisation, making burn patients susceptible to hospital-acquired anaemia and blood transfusion. The purpose of this study was to assess diagnostic blood loss in burn patients at the burn intensive care unit (BICU) at Uppsala University Hospital between 1 September 2016 and 30 June 2019. Medical records were screened; age, gender, mechanism, % total body surface area (TBSA), Baux score, length of stay, days on the respirator, days of continuous renal replacement therapy, number of operations, and number of blood tests per patient were assessed. Volume per blood test was estimated as the volume needed for the specific test tube. A total of 166 patients were included in the study. The mean TBSA was 18.0% ± 20, and the mean length of stay was 17.0 ± 41 days. Median diagnostic blood loss was 13.1 mL/day/patient (IQR 7.0, 23.9) and correlated positively with burn extent, Baux score, and mortality. Daily diagnostic blood loss/%TBSA/patient was 1.2 mL (IQR 0.7, 2.3). Transfusion of blood products occurred in 73/166 patients (44%). In conclusion, diagnostic blood loss is greatly influenced by TBSA extent. The diagnostic blood loss can reach significant levels and may affect the transfusion rate.

48. Urinary Hydroxyproline as an Inflammation-Independent Biomarker of Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Abstract: Predicting responses and monitoring the severity of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is challenging due to a lack of specific biomarkers. This study identifies urinary hydroxyproline, a marker of collagen turnover elevated in experimental colitis, as independent of conventional biomarkers like creatinine, glomerular filtration rate, C-reactive protein, and fecal calprotectin. Among 71 IBD patients, urinary hydroxyproline levels were significantly higher compared with 36 controls, with an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.814, highlighting its potential as a diagnostic tool. No significant difference in hydroxyproline levels was observed between the 50 Crohn’s disease and 21 ulcerative colitis patients, nor was there a correlation with kidney function markers, gastrointestinal symptom severity, or stool consistency. Disease localization was not associated with urinary hydroxyproline levels. Interestingly, 14 patients with primary sclerosing cholangitis and IBD also exhibited elevated urinary hydroxyproline levels, comparable to IBD patients but higher than healthy controls. This underscores the role of urinary hydroxyproline as an independent biomarker for IBD diagnosis, without association with disease severity or established markers like fecal calprotectin.

49. Multiproxy tree ring reconstruction of glacier mass balance: insights from Pinus cembra trees growing near Silvretta Glacier (Swiss Alps)

Abstract: Glacier mass balance reconstructions provide a means of placing relatively short observational records into a longer-term context. Here, we use multiple proxies from Pinus cembra trees from God da Tamangur, combining tree ring anatomy and stable isotope chronologies to reconstruct seasonal glacier mass balance (i.e., winter, summer, and annual mass balance) for the nearby Silvretta Glacier over the last 2 centuries. The combination of tree ring width, radial diameter of earlywood cell lumina, and latewood radial cell wall thickness provides a highly significant reconstruction for summer mass balance, whereas for the winter mass balance, the correlation was less significant but still robust when radial cell lumina were combined with δ18O records. A combination of the reconstructed winter and summer mass balances allows the quantification of the annual mass balance of the Silvretta Glacier for which in situ measurements date back to 1919. Our reconstruction indicates a substantial increase in glacier mass during the first half of the 19th century and an abrupt termination of this phase after the end of the Little Ice Age. Since the 1860s, negative glacier mass balances have been dominant and mass losses accelerate as anthropogenic warming picks up in the Alps.

Abstract: Preliminary analyses of asteroid Ryugu samples show kinship to aqueously altered CI (Ivuna-type) chondrites, suggesting similar origins. We report identification of C-rich, particularly primitive clasts in Ryugu samples that contain preserved presolar silicate grains and exceptional abundances of presolar SiC and isotopically anomalous organic matter. The high presolar silicate abundance (104 ppm) indicates that the clast escaped extensive alteration. The 5 to 10 times higher abundances of presolar SiC (~235 ppm), N-rich organic matter, organics with N isotopic anomalies (1.2%), and organics with C isotopic anomalies (0.2%) in the primitive clasts compared to bulk Ryugu suggest that the clasts formed in a unique part of the protoplanetary disk enriched in presolar materials. These clasts likely represent previously unsampled outer solar system material that accreted onto Ryugu after aqueous alteration ceased, consistent with Ryugus rubble pile origin.
