National audience; L’étude des minéraux argileux et des isotopes stables (carbone) du Sinémuriensupérieur du bassin de Cardigan Bay (forage de Mochras, Pays de Galles) et du bassinde Paris (forage de Montcornet, France) permet de mettre en évidence les conditionsenvironnementales et climatiques dominantes à cette période. Dans les deux bassins,situés à des paléolatitudes proches (30 à 35°N), les assemblages de minéraux argileuxcomprennent des chlorites, des illites, des interstratifiés illite-smectite (IS R1), dessmectites et des kaolinites dans des proportions variables. L'influence de la diagenèsed’enfouissement et de l'authigénèse étant négligeable dans les deux forages, lesminéraux argileux sont interprétés comme provenant principalement de l'érosion desmassifs calédoniens et varisques. Dans le bassin de Cardigan Bay, les variations desproportions de smectites et de kaolinites sont opposées sur l'ensemble du Sinémuriensupérieur et révèlent des intervalles d'hydrolyse intense sous un climat chaud etrégulièrement humide (fortes proportions de kaolinites) et des intervalles semi-arides(forte proportions de smectites). Les kaolinites, particulièrement abondantes dans lapartie supérieure de la Zone à obtusum et dans la Zone à oxynotum, suggèrent unehydrolyse plus intenses probablement coïncidente avec des conditions chaudes,responsables d'une accélération du cycle hydrologique. Au nord du bassin de Paris, lasérie stratigraphique est beaucoup moins épaisse que sur le site du bassin de CardiganBay. Les assemblages argileux sont principalement composés d'illites et de kaolinitessans tendance significative, mais un intervalle riche en smectites identifié dans la Zoneà obtusum est interprété comme une conséquence de l'émersion du Massif Londres-Brabant suite à un abaissement du niveau marin. La diminution à long terme du δ13Corgà la fin de la Zone à oxynotum, enregistrée dans les deux sites, semble amorcerl’excursion négative reconnue quasi-mondialement au passageSinémurien/Pliensbachien (SPBE) probablement liée au volcanisme de la ProvinceMagmatique de l'Atlantique Central (CAMP).

28 pages; International audience; In 2013, several boreholes were drilled in northern France, close to Juzanvigny in the Aube department,which is the type area of the Albian stage. From the top to the base of the boreholes, severalformations including the “Argiles tégulines de l’Aube”, namely the “Gault” auct (lower andmiddle Albian), the “Sables verts de l’Aube” (upper Aptian), the “Argiles à Plicatules” (lowerAptian), the “Sables et argiles bariolées” (upper Barremian) and the top of the “Argiles ostréennes”(lower Barremian) were recovered. A detailed description of the lithological succession was performedto improve knowledge of the Lower Cretaceous of the eastern Paris basin.The main results are the following:– Regarding the Gault Clay, corresponding to the “Argiles tégulines de l’Aube” (Albian) the conjunctiveuse of marker beds (litho- and bio-ecoevents recognized in a large area across the Paris basin)and paleontological data (ammonites) leads to propose accurate correlations with other sections inAube, Yonne and the Perthois;– a thin layer of glauconitic sandy clay located in the lower part of the “Argiles tégulines de Courcelles”reached the Aube valley diluting gradually. This sandy layer originated from the “Sables desDrillons” well-known in the Yonne area. The lower limit of this lithological unit is dated from theOtohoplites subhilli ammonite zone, while its upper limit is diachronic. Sandy facies are thinningnorthward and are replaced by clays;– the lower part of the “Argiles tégulines de Courcelles”, equivalent to the “Argiles de l’Armance” fromYonne, considerably thins to the north and passes laterally to glauconitic sands (“Albian Greensand”);– along the eastern edge of the Paris Basin, between the Meuse to the north and Yonne to the south,the Lower Greensand is made up of several lithological units, from top to bottom: “Albian Greensand”(lower Albian), “Sables verts de l’Aube (upper Aptian, likely Clansayesian) and the “Sablesd’Outines Formation” newly created following stratigraphic rules of nomenclature and replacing the“white Sands” that are actually glauconitic (upper Aptian, likely Gargasian);– the “Argiles à Plicatules” Fm exhibits a cyclicity in its upper part and encompasses the ammonite zonesDeshayesites deshayesi and Tropaeum bowerbanki from the Lower Aptian (Bedoulian);– the “Sables et argiles bariolées”, wealden facies, are not marine deposits that have undergone lateriticweathering as recently suggested by some authors, but correspond to continental deposits;– pluridecimetric levels of “sanguine” corresponding to bright red, iron oxide platelets describedin outcrops at upper and lower limits of the “Sables et argiles bariolées”, have a secondary origin.Finally, the “Argiles ostréennes” Fm consists at least in part, of a series of rhythmic tempestites.; Dans le département de l’Aube, région stratotypique de l’étage Albien, plusieurs forages réalisés en 2013 ont traversé la plus grande partie des Argiles tégulines de Courcelles ou « Gault » auct. (Albien inférieur et moyen), les Sables verts de l’Aube (Aptien supérieur), les Argiles à Plicatules (Aptien inférieur), les Sables et argiles bariolées (Barrémien supérieur) et la partie supérieure des Argiles ostréennes (Barrémien inférieur). Une description lithologique détaillée de la succession est réalisée dans le but d’améliorer la connaissance du Crétacé inférieur de la bordure orientale du bassin de Paris dont les affleurements sont peu nombreux et discontinus. En ce qui concerne l’étage Albien, l’extension latérale importante de nombreux niveaux repères correspondant à des événements lithologiques et bio-écologiques et les attributions stratigraphiques fondées sur les ammonites conduisent à proposer des corrélations précises avec d’autres coupes dans l’Aube, l’Yonne et le Perthois.

44 pages; International audience; An integrated biostratigraphic approach, based on ammonites, calcareous nannofossils, dinoflagellates, combined with sedimentology, carbon-isotope and physical stratigraphy, is proposed for the Subalpine Basin (Thuoux and Saint-Pierre d'Argençon sections). Within the expanded marl deposits of the Terres Noires Fm., the Callovian-Oxfordian boundary is particularly well defined by ammonite taxa from different families (i.e. Cardioceratidae, Oppeliidae, Aspidoceratidae and Perisphinctidae), calcareous nannoplankton (first occurrence of large-sized Stephanolithion bigotii) and dinoflagellate cysts (first occurrence of Wanaea fimbriata). This precise biostratigraphy and diversity of ammonites permit long-range correlations with Boreal and Pacific domains. The exceptional outcrop conditions and continuous sedimentation allow high-resolution chemostratigraphy and cyclostratigraphy to be used. Variations of the δ13C record (1.5‰ increase during the Lamberti Zone), consistent with data from other sections of the Subalpine Basin and with the Paris Basin, provide additional markers to characterise the Callovian-Oxfordian boundary. Promising results from cyclostratigraphy should serve to constrain the duration of biostratigraphic units and thus improve the Late Jurassic Geologic Time Scale. Comparisons are made with the two other candidates for an Oxfordian GSSP, Redcliff Point (UK) and Dubki (Russian Platform). Finally, the advantages of the Subalpine Basin sections support the proposal of Thuoux as a suitable GSSP candidate for the base of the Oxfordian Stage.
