New nanostructures often reflect new and exciting properties. Here, we present an two-dimensional, hitherto unreported PdO square network with lateral dimensions up to hundreds of nanometers growing on reduced graphene oxide (rGO), forming a hybrid nanofilm. An intermediate state of dissolved Pd(0) in the bacterium S. oneidensis MR-1 is pivotal in the biosynthesis and inspires an abiotic synthesis. The PdO network shows a lattice spacing of 0.5 nm and a thickness of 1.8 nm on both sides of an rGO layer and is proposed to be cubic or tetragonal crystal, as confirmed by structural simulations. A 2D silver oxide analog with a similar structure is also obtained using an analogous abiotic synthesis. Our study thus opens a simple route to a whole new class of 2D metal oxides on rGO as promising candidates for graphene superlattices with unexplored properties and potential applications for example in electronics, sensing, and energy conversion.

Prussian blue analogues (PBAs) with inherent ordered structures and abundant metal ion sites are widely explored as precursors for various electrochemical applications, including oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Using a range of characterization techniques including Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), this work discloses the process of replacement of K + by NH 4 + in the interstitial spaces of the CoFe PBA by a hot aqueous urea solution, which influences the transformation of PBAs under further heat treatment and the OER performance of the derivatives. After heat treatment at 400 °C under Ar flow, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) images reveal that CoFe alloy nanoparticles grew on the crystalline cubes of CoFe PBA with K +, while CoFe PBA cubes with NH 4 + become amorphous. Besides, the derivative of CoFe PBA with NH 4 + (Ar-U-CoFe PBA) performs better than the derivative of CoFe PBA with K + (Ar-CoFe PBA) in OER, registering a lower overpotential of 305 mV at 10 mA cm −2, a smaller Tafel slope of 36.1 mV dec −1, and better stability over a testing course of 20 h in 1.0 M KOH. A single-cell alkaline electrolyzer, using Ar-U-CoFe PBA and Pt/C for the anodic and cathodic catalyst, respectively, requires an initial cell voltage of 1.66 V to achieve 100 mA cm −2 at 80 °C, with negligible degradation after 100 h.

Background: Dendritic cells (DCs) are vital for initiating antigen-specific T cell-dependent antitumor immune responses. However, emerging evidence reveals that local DCs within the tumor microenvironment (TME) are tolerized to facilitate immune evasion. Reprogramming of DCs is recognized as a promising strategy for tumor immunotherapy. Leukocyte immunoglobulin-like receptor B4 (LILRB4) is an inhibitory receptor belonging to the LILR family which is mainly expressed on normal myeloid cells and myeloid-derived malignant cells. It is upregulated on tolerogenic DCs (tolDCs), which exhibit low expression levels of costimulatory molecules and resistance to DC maturation. Targeting LILRB4 to reprogram tolDCs has been reported to be a promising strategy for cancer treatment. Here we report the preclinical development of an LILRB4 antagonist antibody, ATG-034. Method: The protein-based and cell-based binding affinity of ATG-034 were measured using SPR, ELISA and FACS analysis. Fc receptor (FcR) stimulation assay was used to evaluate the ability of ATG-034 to block the interaction of LILRB4 with its ligand fibronectin. ATG-034-mediated enhancement of antigen presentation and co-stimulation ability of DCs was determined by FACS analysis for the change of surface expression of HLA-DR, HLA-ABC, CD86, and CD206. The mixed lymphocyte reaction (MLR) assay was used to assess the immunomodulatory potential of ATG-034. The in vivo antitumor efficacy of ATG-034 was evaluated in a radiation therapy-resistant murine Lewis lung carcinoma (LLC) syngeneic model. Results: ATG-034 binds to LILRB4 protein with a single-digit nM affinity. It potently reversed the fibronectin-mediated inhibition of FcR-driven TNF-α cytokine production. TolDCs were reprogrammed by ATG-034 to immunogenic DCs with significant upregulation of the expression of HLA-DR, HLA-ABC, CD86 and downregulation of the expression of CD206. Furthermore, ATG-034 remarkably reinvigorated tolDCs for priming T cell activation with noticeable upregulation of the expression of CD25 and the secretion of IFN-γ, enhancing antitumor immunity. In addition, 10 mg/kg ATG-034 significantly inhibited the LLC tumor growth in vivo with a TGI of 40.28%, while a benchmark antibody only demonstrated a 24.43% TGI. Conclusion: Our data show that ATG-034 reprograms tolDC, enhancing anti-tumor immunity, and demonstrates potent in vivo anti-tumor efficacy. The biosynthesis of metallic nanomaterials, especially noble metal nanomaterials, has attracted extensive attention due to the multifarious potential applications of these materials. In this study we have explored the effects of Cu(II) on Pd(II) removal, and of Cu(II) as well as phosphate on the morphologies and composition of biogenic nanoparticles (NPs) from aqueous Pd(II) systems by Shewanella oneidensis MR‐1 (MR‐1). Cu(II) causes a slight efficiency decrease of Pd(II) removal by MR‐1, but a high removal efficiency of 89.8 % is still achieved, which contrasts sharply with the significant inhibition to other microbes. Without phosphate buffer in the medium, 5‐nm PdNPs densely envelop MR‐1 and accumulate significantly in the periplasm in the absence of Cu(II), while 4‐nm PdNPs are evenly distributed in the periplasm, and the cellular surface is smooth in the presence of Cu(II). The following effect of Cu(II) on PdNP synthesis by MR‐1 is therefore proposed: Cu(II) significantly affects PdNPs morphologies by inhibiting Pd(0) transfer across the outer membrane and PdNP crystal growth in the periplasm, but not the sorption of Pd(II). Phosphate addition only slightly increases Pd harvest but also precipitates Cu(II) and poses difficulties for the biosynthesis. The study highlights the effect of co‐existing metals during the biosynthesis of metallic nanomaterials and offers new insight into the mechanism of PdNP formation and the electron transfer during Pd(II) reduction by MR‐1.

Background: Currently, the breast cancer has become one of major threats to females’ health. However, the percentage of returning to work is low for those breast cancer patients in China. Return to work is beneficial for breast cancer patients to help them realize social rehabilitation.Purpose: To explore and build up the intervention model of returning to work based on the experience of breast cancer patients, it can provide help and guidance for relevant personal.Methods: A total of fourteen breast cancer patients who had returned to work voluntarily participated in the semi-structural interviews. The results of interviews were analyzed according to the Colaizzi's phenomenological analytic procedure.Results: The analysis indicates that the following five parts could have the positive effects on the returning to work of breast cancer patients: (1) overcoming negative emotions, (2) rebuilding confidence, (3) correcting mentality and establishing goals, (4) obtaining all-around social support, and (5) seeking balance between body and work. Based on these aspects, the requirement model and the innovative intervention model of returning to work for breast cancer patients were separately built up to provide help and guidance for relevant personnel.Conclusions: Breast cancer patients successfully returned to work, which required the own internal strength and the powerful external support. Their internal determination should be strengthened to initiate the belief of returning to work, and the external environment should also be enhanced to benefit their employment. In addition, the continuous professional guidance should be implemented to maintain their healthy behaviors and high quality of life.

ObjectiveThis study aimed to explore the barriers to home exercise for patients with Parkinson’s disease (PwPDs) and to provide guidelines for healthcare providers to build and implement home exercise strategies for PwPDs.DesignA qualitative descriptive method was used. Semistructured interviews were conducted and thematic analysis was employed.SettingThe study was conducted at the Department of Neurology at a grade 3 Class A general hospital in China.ParticipantsA total of 24 participants were interviewed, including 10 PwPDs, 7 caregivers, 4 nurses, 1head nurse, and 2 Parkinson’s clinicians.ResultsFive themes were identified in this analysis. (1) Psychosomatic stress and low activity; (2) Lack of early rehabilitation authorisation; (3) Poor ‘flow’ state of home exercise; (4) iInaccessibility of continued service; (5) Sociocultural impact on family coping.ConclusionPwPDs, caregivers and specialised medical staff raised the challenges faced by patients' home exercises from different perspectives. We can improve services and integrate resources through the management of multi-disciplinary, early rehabilitation authorisation, exercise experience, continuous service mode, and family coping strategies under different cultures to gradually adjust the home exercise behaviour of PwPDs.

To explore and describe nurses' self-expression media image during COVID-19 pandemic in China.Nurses play an important role in COVID-19 pandemic. Although nurses were widely reported by the media, which included praise for nurses and nursing work, the researches on how nurses expressed their self-images were limited.Qualitative media analysis.Qualitative media analysis was conducted from January to April 2020, the researchers collected images and texts of 16 Chinese nurses who take care of COVID-19 patients. These images and texts were published on WeChat Moments by themselves. After analysed each image and text, researchers identified the denotative and connotative elements in each image and summarized each image in narrative way.This study analysed 219 pictures and 15 short videos of 16 nurses' self-expression in WeChat moments. In this study, the media image self-expression of nurses were mostly positive. The images expressed by nurses in this study included care image; hero image; soldier image; female image; hope image and team image. Nurses rarely showed negative images in the media; The negative nurses image were expressed in hidden way, which included exhausted nurses image and fragile nurses image. Moreover, the nurse self-expression media image emphasized the nursing professionalism, but less showed the nursing connotation.The positive media image self-expression of nurses should be encouraged. Nurse Managers should pay attention to the deficiency of nursing image expression and guide nurses to show the essence and connotation of nursing.

Plant-associated fungal communities play a vital role in plant adaptations, physiological functions, and productivity. Therefore, it is important to reveal the mechanisms driving the assembly of these communities. Yet it is still not fully understood how community assembly and structure diferentiate in plant compartments, growth seasons, and varieties at large geographic distances. In this study, we analyzed bulk soil and plant-associated fungal communities of fve wheat varieties across two growth stages in three biogeographic sites with distances of about 324, 534, or 800km apart between any two locations. Our results indicated that the fungal community varied primarily across the sample types (leaf endosphere, root endosphere, rhizosphere, and bulk soil), followed by growth stage. Compared with the regreening stage, lower α-diversity and more dominance by abundant species in the fungal community were observed in wheat-associated compartments (four sample types except for bulk soil) at the heading stage. Additionally, within each wheat-associated compartment across every growth stage, location had stronger efects on fungal community assembly than the wheat variety. The efects of variety on fungal community assembly were location specifc as were the growth-stage patterns of varietal efects on leaf endosphere and rhizosphere fungal communities. We further detected a less diverse but abundant core fungal taxa that could be grouped into three clusters associated mainly with location. This study characterized the interplay efects between plant selection (compartment, growth stage, variety) and environment (location) on wheat-associated mycobiomes by determining drivers of fungal community assembly and core fungal taxa in feld conditions.

Circadian rhythm proteins participate in regulating multiple physiological activities, including immune responses. The day-night shift rotation (DNSR) affects the circadian rhythm. The influence of circadian rhythm disturbance associated with DNSR on the regulatory functions of B cells remains to be studied. In this study, Blood samples were collected from 30 nurses engaging DNSR. The B cells were isolated from blood samples through magnetic cell separation. The regulatory function of IL-10 B cells (B10 cells) was evaluated using immunological assays. The results showed that the IL-10 expression was significantly reduced in B10 cells in nurses after DNSR. The capacity of inducing type 1 regulatory T cells (Tr1 cells) in B10 cells was down regulated. The circadian locomotor output cycles kaput (CLOCK) was increased in B10 cells, which was negatively correlated with the reduction of IL-10 expression in B10 cells. CLOCK formed a complex with c-Maf inducing protein (CMIP) to induce CMIP degradation; this restricted the IL10 gene transcription in B10 cells. B10 cells collected from nurses after DNSR were ineffective in suppressing T-cell proliferation and inducing Tr1 cells. In summary, DNSR affects the immune regulating function of B10 cells by disturbing the circadian rhythm.

Rechargeable aqueous zinc-ion battery (ZIB) is considered as a promising energy storage device due to the low cost, high obtainable output voltage, non-toxicity, and environmental friendliness. To achieve an excellent energy storage performance, morphology engineering of cathode materials for aqueous ZIBs is regarded as an important strategy. The impact of dimension and orientation of the cathode material on the electrochemical performance are, however, less studied. Herein, we compare two types of zinc pyrovanadate (Zn3V2O7(OH)2•2H2O, ZnVO) in nanowires and nanoflakes with the same crystal type but different orientations. ZnVO nanowires expose mostly the (001) plane lattice, in contrast to (020) and (110) lattice for ZnVO flakes. Interestingly, nanowires exhibit an excellent specific discharge capacity of 108 mAh g−1 after 700 cycles at 2 A g−1, contributed from Faradic and diffusion-controlled capacity. In contrast, nanoflakes deliver a very poor capacity of 1.5 mAh g−1 after 700 cycles at 0.1 A g−1 with only diffusion-controlled capacity. Density functional theory (DFT) reveals significantly different Zn2+ ion diffusion rates in ZnVO along different orientations.

BACKGROUND: Cardiomyocyte apoptosis and inflammation induced by Coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3) are key pathogenetic mechanisms in viral myocarditis. Alterations in microRNAs and lncRNAs are associated with cardiac remodeling. However, whether the microRNA and lncRNA interact to regulate cardiomyocyte apoptosis and inflammation is unknown. METHODS: BALB/c mice were infected with CVB3 to generate acute viral myocarditis model. The expression levels of lncRNA HIF1A-AS1 and miR-138 were examined in mouse myocardium and primary cardiomyocytes with CVB3 infection. We then knocked down HIF1A-AS1 by siRNA and upregulated miR-138 by microRNA mimics in cardiomyocytes. RESULTS: The expression of lncRNA HIF1A-AS1was significantly increased in CVB3-induced myocardium and cardiomyocytes. Strengthening organization and implementation to build a healthy China, is a major strategic task to cover modernization construction of our country. Strengthening organization and implementation is the key to ensuring the effective implementation of the goals and tasks of the Healthy China construction, and the key to transforming the blueprint into the effective improvement of people health. For the goal of on building moderately prosperous society by 2020, it has great significance to realize the Two Centenary Goals and the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of China. The Outline proposed that organization and leadership should be strengthened, and the evaluation system of health impact assessment should be established, to create a good social atmosphere and carry out the conduct monitoring work.

As the core of the Plan, the target indicators for building a healthy China are a high degree of conciseness and summary of the development tasks and the fundamental basis for the implementation of all major tasks and major policies. With clear orientation and constraints, they are of great importance to strengthening the binding force of the Outline and ensuring the implementation of the Outline. The main targets and indicators of the Outline are supposed to closely focus on the national strategy of building a moderately prosperous society in an all-round way and achieving the “two centenary goals.” Moreover, they need to fully consider the convergence with the goals of various stages of economic and social development, and with the requirements of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. In this way the international comparability of indicators will be improved. The combination of taking a long-term perspective and focusing on the present must be adhered to, with consideration given to both guidance and maneuverability. It will be necessary to put an emphasis on the overall importance and representativeness of the main indicators, and to ensure that the indicators are clearly defined. With a stable source of data, the indicators will be measured, decomposed, and assessed, in order to make the annual data and provincial data accessible and to meet the requirements for the monitoring and evaluation of the Outline. Thus the binding force and maneuverability of the Outline will be guaranteed.

Firstly, the rapid development of urbanization has led to an increasing population of agricultural transfer. In 1978–2015, the urbanization rate in China increased by around 1.03 percentage points annually on average. In 2015, the total number of rural migrant workers reached 277.47 million, an increase of 35.24 million over 2010 (Fig. 3.1).

Porous zinc manganate (ZnMn2O4), which is typically fabricated from the decomposition of its carbonates, promises a high-performance anode material for lithium ion batteries (LIBs). Most of porous ZnMn2O4 in literature presents in sphere morphology. Herein, a unique type of porous ZnMn2O4 hexagons with a side length of about 2 μm and a BET specific surface area of 34.19 m2 g−1, assembled by ca. 100 nm nanoparticles, has been successfully fabricated by a solvothermal reaction with subsequent calcination of the self-assembled catena-poly intermediates. The growth mechanism of the solvothermal products has been systematically investigated by adjusting the stoichiometric ratio of oxalic acid, the type of the salt source and acid additive, and the reaction media, resulting in a wide spectrum of morphologies ranging from hexagon, porous sphere, hourglass to belt. The hexagon precursor was calcined in air to obtain the porous structure, attributed to the spaces between nanoparticle assemblies. When used for lithium-ion storage, the as-prepared porous ZnMn2O4 hexagons-based anode exhibits a reversible capacity of 716 mA h g−1 after 200 cycles at 100 mA g−1, outperforming the pure porous Mn2O3 hexagons and the non-porous ZnMn2O4 hexagons.

Health is the foundation of the all-round development of human beings and of the great significance to safeguarding national security, social stability and unity, and the economic development. Human resources are the first resource of China’s economic and social development. Health human resource is the health guardian of the people and an important support for building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, a healthy China and realizing the basic medical and health services for all. Health human resource status determines the level, ability and effectiveness of health service, and is the first resource for the undertaking of hygiene and health. Building a health human resource team of sufficient number, high quality, structure of optimization, and reasonable distribution is the foundation of our country’s continuous development of hygiene and health undertaking, and an important task to protect the health of the people. Strengthening the construction of health human resources is the overall requirement to implement the strategy of reinvigorating China through human resource development. In particular, with the deepening of the reform of medical and health system, the decisive position and role of the health talents are fully recognized, and the need to strengthen the construction of the health personnel team is becoming more and more urgent. The first is that with the development of economy and the changes of residents’ lifestyle, as well as the development of aging and urbanization, the demand for health services such as chronic diseases, public health, rehabilitation, elderly care and maternal and child health care is increasing. The second is that with the establishment of the hierarchical system of medical diagnosis and treatment, and the rapid development of information technology, the medical and health service mode and service level are deeply affected. The third is that with the globalization of health and the implementation of “One Belt and One Road” development strategy, higher requirements are put forward for international cooperation in the field of hygiene and health. All these changes have put forward the new requirements for health human resources. The talent problem is inevitable in further development of hygiene and health industry, for health talent is the health service provider and the powerful promoter of healthy China strategy. Therefore, it is necessary to further improve policies, strengthen human resources construction, arouse enthusiasm, and continuously meet the growing needs for health services of the people.

Coating transition metal oxides with nitrogen-doped carbon is an efficient way to enhance lithium-ion battery performance by improving the conductivity and stability of the electrodes. So far, little attention has been paid to how the calcination process affects bimetallic oxides, such as zinc vanadate, with regards to the oxidation state of the metal, the zinc/vanadium ratio and the specific surface area. In this work, we report nitrogen-doped carbon coated zinc vanadate nanoflowers (particle size: 10 nm; coating layer thickness: 20 nm) with a high specific surface area (115 m2 g−1) through a facile method. High-angle annular dark-field scanning transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy reveal that V5+ from the precipitated Zn3(OH)2(V2O7)(H2O)2 is largely converted to V3+ in ZnV2O4. A vanadium loss of about 9% during calcination lead to increased Zn/V ratio and formation of ZnO. When applied as anode in a lithium-ion battery, the as-prepared ZnV2O4/ZnO@N doped C exhibits a considerable reversible specific capacity of 620 mAh g−1 at a current density of 0.1 A g−1 after 50 cycles, very close to the theoretical capacity (651 mAh g−1) and considerably higher than the non-coated counterpart (306 mAh g−1). The material is stable during extended cycling (200 cycles at 0.5 A g−1). In-depth electrochemical analysis including three-electrode system testing shows that the carbon shell is crucial in maintaining the structure stability and enhancing the capacity of the active material.

Deepening the reform of medical and health system, greatly focused on by the Party Central Committee and the State Council, is an important part of comprehensively deepening reform and a major livelihood project of hearts and minds to safeguard the health and well-being of the people. After launching a new round of medical and health reform in 2009, and especially since the 18th national congress of the communist Party of China, deepening the medical reform has been put to a more important position in the overall cause of the Party and the state by means of the overall planning, comprehensive promotion, continuous improvement of the top-level design. A relatively perfect institutional framework has been established and the significant progress and mark results in deepening reform made.

During the 12th 5-Year Plan Period, the State Council issued National Fitness Program (2011–2015) and the local governments above county level also issued Implementation Program for National Fitness. With the implementation of these programs, the national fitness campaign was widely carried out and people’s physical fitness and health kept on improving, which were mainly revealed in the following aspects

Healthy living refers to the habitual behaviors beneficial to one’s health, which should include the following aspects: well-balanced diets, moderate exercises, tobacco and alcohol control and psychological balance. According to the study by the World Health Organization, living style and behaviors account for as much as 60% among the four factors influencing individuals’ health and life expectancy. Therefore, promoting healthy living for all is one of the key links to promote the health of the human being, a pilot and basic work for preventing and controlling various diseases, an important approach to improving health literacy of the citizens and the average social labor productivity, as well as an important means to helping building healthy China.

As China’s economy goes into the new normal, hard constraints such as resources, environment and climate variation will slow it down. However, the great potential for economic development and the inertia for economic growth will still keep China’s economy growing at a medium-to-high speed. It is predicted that China’s GDP will maintain a growth rate of 6.5–7% in 2016–2020 and a medium-high rate of growth in 2020–2030 (see Fig. 2.1).

With rapidly increased number of medical institutions and ward beds as well as expanded scale of medical institutions, great achievements have been made in the medical and health service systems during the 12th 5-Year Plan period. While strengthening the construction of the medical insurance system, government has also continuously enhanced the construction of the public medical care delivery systems by various means, both providing support to medical care delivery systems and satisfying people’s needs, which created a favorable funding environment for the development of the health system. The increased medical professionals were 960,000 during the period between 2007 and 2010, with an average annual growth of 240,000, and 1673,600 during the period between 2010 and 2015, with an average annual growth of 334,700. Public funding also soared to a greater height during the same period. Government payment as a share of total health increased by 129 billion yuan from 2004 to 2007, 315 billion yuan from 2007 to 2010 and 674.28 billion yuan from 2010 to 2015. The increased percentage was from 22.3% in 2007, to 28.7% in 2010 and 30.4% in 2015.

The first is the challenge brought about by continuous decline in economic growth. Correspondently social security revenue and financial support to social security will also shift from rapid rise to stable and limited growth. With increasing rise in the need for social security and rapid increase in medical cost, pressure on social security funds is increasingly tremendous which will challenge social security continuously. The second is the challenge intensified by increased aging population. Aging population and low birth rate will impose impact on both revenue and expenditure of the old-age insurance and the medical insurance, leading to lack of medical insurance funds and weakened security capacity on the one hand, rapid rise in the need for medical care and dramatic increase in the expenditure of medical insurance funds on the other hand, which will pose increasingly serious risks for the sustainable development of the medical security system. The third is the challenge caused by increasingly accelerated pace of urbanization. Urbanization will not only give rise to rapid increase in demands for social security, which imposes pressure on social security funds, but also demands unity of urban and rural social security. Urbanization, together with its growing mobility of the population, poses a new challenge for the management service of social security. The fourth is the challenge posed by the multiple methods of medical service delivery and the application of network information technology. Multiple medical service delivery methods and tremendous impact of Internet+ will greatly change the service delivery modes and organizational structure, which will have fundamental influence on the operation of medical institutions and medical service practice and present huge challenges for medical security management.

The “Outline for Strengthening International Exchanges and Cooperation” has made in-depth expositions on strengthening international exchanges and cooperation and actively participating in global health governance. It has clearly defined the key areas and mechanisms for promoting international exchanges and cooperation in the future and indicated that China will play a more active and constructive role in global health governance, and earnestly fulfill its international commitments and actively assume the responsibility of a big country. This is of great significance to creating a good international environment for building a healthy China, building a community of shared interests, a community of shared responsibilities and a community of shared destiny for human health, and promoting the global achievement of the 2030 health-related sustainable development goals.

Deepening patriotic public health campaigns is a great creation and successful practice by applying the mass line to the preventive sanitation work. It is also an important part of socialism with Chinese characteristics. The “Outline of the Healthy China 2030 Plan” regulates that patriotic public health campaigns should be deepen, urban and rural environment and sanitary conditions should be comprehensively improved, healthy cities, towns and villages should be built. “Building healthy cities, towns and villages” is an important project for Healthy China. The land supply for public health infrastructure should be secured, and health-related infrastructure, planning and standards should be improved. We will blend health in the urban and rural planning, construction and management process, to improve the coordinated development of the urban development and residents’ health. By 2030, a group of healthy cities, towns and villages will be built for nationwide demonstration.

Major diseases refer to the illnesses that severely endanger public health and life safety of the people, severely affect the national economy and the development of society, and severely impair national security and our international image. Based on the characteristics of the present stage, five categories of 18 major diseases are selected as the representatives of major diseases, i.e. infectious diseases (AIDS, TB, hepatitis B, schistosomiasis, malaria, plague, cholera, echinococcosis, brucellosis), chronic diseases (hypertension, cerebral apoplexy, diabetes, lung cancer, liver cancer), mental diseases (severe psychonosema), occupational disease (pneumoconiosis) and endemic diseases (iodine deficiency disorders, Kaschin-Beck disease).

The CPC central committee and the State Council have attached great importance to environmental protection by putting it in the main position and making it the main force of ecological civilization construction and the core content of building a beautiful China, realizing a sustainable development, introducing an overall plan for the reform of the ecological civilization system, implementing the action plan for the prevention and control of air, water and soil pollution, and vigorously strengthening environment and health work. In 2015, the average annual concentration of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) in 338 prefecture-level and above cities was 50 μg/m3; the proportion of the 1940 state-controlled sections of class I–III surface water increased to 66%; the proportion of worse V fell to 9.7%; the quality of the main streams in major rivers was obviously improved. The capacities of national desulfurization and denitrification units, accounting for the total installed capacity of coal power, increased to 99% and 92% respectively, which completed the ultra-low emission transformation of 160 million kilowatts of coal-fired power units. The comprehensive environment improvement in 72,000 villages has been implemented, directly benefiting more than 120 million rural people. A number of major ecological conservation and rehabilitation projects have been carried out steadily, including natural forest protection, returning farmland into forest and grass, and grazing land into grassland, shelter forest system construction, protection and restoration of lakes and wetlands, desertification control, water and soil conservation, desertification management, wildlife protection and nature reserve construction. Pollutant emissions of the five heavy metals of lead, mercury, cadmium, chromium and arsenic have fallen 27.7% since 2007, and the number of sudden environment incidents involving heavy metals has been greatly reduced. In order to solve the environmental problems that harm people’s health, the Environment Protection Law and the series of environmental management documents clearly put forward the requirements for strengthening environment and health management, which provide legal and policy basis for the establishment and the improvement of environment and health management systems, organization and the implementation of environment and health surveys, monitoring and risk assessment.

Health and longevity are not only the core objective of human development, but also the common wishes of people of all ethnic groups in our country. Healthy China is the China where the people can enjoy health and longevity and also the China where the people’s health and health service capacity have reached the world advanced level. From the following three dimensions—healthy life, quality of health and health capacity, Healthy China will provide the behavioral guidance and policy basis for individuals, families, health-related institutions, government departments and other entities to jointly construct a healthy China where people can enjoy health and longevity and where the economy and the society can carry each other.

With the construction of health information service system in the past 10 years or so and the rapid development of information technology and the Internet, the development trend of cross-border integration has been highlighted. Many new industry types have emerged such as smart manufacturing, online consumption and mobile healthcare. These new industry types are profoundly influencing and changing the organization of large-scale social production and people’s lifestyles. In the next 15 years, the cross-border integration of information technology and the Internet will continue, but what will be the trend? What changes in people’s health needs will take place when this trend is superimposed on the steady increase in urban and rural income levels, moderate population growth, aggravating population aging problems and other factors? What impact will these changes have on the health service supply and the development of the whole health industry? To sort out these issues will be of great significance to advancing the construction of “healthy China” and to the coordinated development of China’s economy and society and the attainment of the goal of “200 Years.”

Making improving the drug supply security system as an important task, the Outline of the Healthy China 2030 Plan requires to deepen the reform of the drug and device circulation system and to improve the national drug policies. The construction of drug supply security system is one of the key tasks of the new round of healthcare reform and, together with the medical service system, the medical security system and the public health service system, it serves the goal of providing basic medical and health services for everyone. The national essential drug system was initially established during the “11th 5-Year” period, which has laid the foundation for the formation of a drug supply security system. During the “12th 5-Year” period, positive progress has been made in consolidating and improving the essential drug system and promoting reform in the field of drug production and circulation.

The next 15 years is the important turning stage for China’s demographic development, the important stage of opportunity for improving family planning policies and promoting the long-term balanced demographic development, and the critical stage of reform for building Healthy China and laying solid foundations for realizing the Chinese dream of national rejuvenation. It is of great significance to consider the overall situation and aim far, research on the demographic development, grasp the objective laws, use the international experience, improve strategy and promote the balanced development.

The alkaline phosphatase-harboring community (the phoD community hereafter) plays an important role in organic P mineralization. Here, we comparatively studied the biogeographical patterns of abundant and rare phoD subcommunities and their roles in mediating soil phosphatase (ALP) activity and available P content in three representative steppe regions in China, namely the Inner Mongolian Plateau, the Loess Plateau, and the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. The results indicated that soil ALP activity, available P content, soil and microbial biomass C:P, N:P ratios varied significantly among steppe regions. Significant differences in diversity, metabolic energy and assembly processes were observed between abundant and rare phoD subcommunities. First, richness of the rare taxa was significantly higher than that of the abundant subcommunities. Second, testing of metabolic theory of ecology showed that rare subcommunities had a higher metabolic activation energy than the abundant taxa. Thirdly, deterministic other than stochastic processes dominated in the community assembly of both subcommunities. Soil pH was the key environmental determinant in community assembly processes for both subcommunities. The relationships among P-cycling parameters and between these parameters and phoD diversity were scale-dependent. The phylogenetic beta diversity of the rare phoD taxa had higher correlations with P-cycling parameters than that with the abundant taxa. More rare than abundant genera were significantly correlated with P limitation and ALP activity at different spatial scales. The rare Frankia was the key genus detecting P limitation, producing ALP and enhancing soil Avaiale P in Qinghai-Tibet.

NiO microspheres with well-defined hollow structure were successfully obtained using spherical yeast as a natural bio-template. The as-prepared samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The morphologically uniform NiO hollow microspheres prepared with yeast template after calcination had an averaged diameter of 1.5–2 μm and the shell thickness of ∼500 nm. The concentration of Ni(NO3)2, calcination temperature and aging time play important roles on the crystal phase and morphologies of the NiO hollow microspheres. Meanwhile, the NiO/C hollow microspheres were successfully fabricated via a simple hydrothermal method using glucose as carbon source. A possible formation mechanism of forming NiO/C hollow microspheres was proposed and the electrochemical performance of the NiO/C hollow microspheres as anode material for Li-ion batteries was investigated. Compared with the samples prepared without template or without carbon coating, the as-prepared NiO/C hollow microspheres show higher discharge capacity and better cycle performance as an anode material in Li-ion batteries.

Photothermal therapy requires efficient plasmonic nanomaterials with small size, good water dispersibility, and biocompatibility. This work reports a one-pot, 2-min synthesis strategy for ultrathin CuS nanocrystals (NCs) with precisely tunable size and localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR), where a single-starch-layer coating leads to a high LSPR absorption at the near-IR wavelength 980 nm. The CuS NC diameter increases from 4.7 (1 nm height along [101]) to 28.6 nm (4.9 nm height along [001]) accompanied by LSPR redshift from 978 to 1200 nm, as the precursor ratio decreases from 1 to 0.125. Photothermal temperature increases by 38.6 °C in 50 mg L-1 CuS NC solution under laser illumination (980 nm, 1.44 W cm-2). Notably, 98.4% of human prostate cancer PC-3/Luc+ cells are killed by as little as 5 mg L-1 starch-coated CuS NCs with 3-min laser treatment, whereas CuS NCs without starch cause insignificant cell death. LSPR modeling discloses that the starch layer enhances the photothermal effect by significantly increasing the free carrier density and blue-shifting the LSPR toward 980 nm. This study not only presents a new type of photothermally highly efficient ultrathin CuS NCs, but also offers in-depth LSPR modeling investigations useful for other photothermal nanomaterial designs.

Au decorated ZnO flower-like architectures assembled from single crystal nanowires have been successfully synthesized. A facile thermal treatment route was employed, utilizing the composite gel of zinc acetate and polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) as raw materials and was followed by a subsequent Au reduction process. PVP served as a surfactant and played a critical role in the generation of crystalline nanowires as well as for the formation of ZnO flower-like structure. Based on control experiments, the growth mechanism of ZnO flower-like structures was proposed. The diameter of ZnO crystalline nanowires was approximately 50–80 nm and the size of Au particles deposited on the surface of ZnO nanowires was approximately 5 nm. When tested as gas sensing material, the as-prepared Au decorated ZnO flower-like architecture exhibited superior gas sensing performance compared to ethyl acetate in terms of high response (approximately 102 at 100 ppm), short response and recovery times (10 s and 13 s, respectively), and low operating temperature (240 °C). The superior gas sensing performances are mainly attributed to the synergistic effects of ZnO crystalline nanowires and Au nanoparticles, as well as to the flower-like structure.

Rod-like manganese molybdate (MnMoO 4 ) crystallines with two-dimensional nanoflakes has been successfully synthesized by a novel and facile wet chemical method with the assistance of polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP). Experimental results demonstrate that PVP participation is significant to control the size distribution of rod-like MnMoO 4 crystallines. As the electrode material of supercapacitor, the rod-like MnMoO 4 crystallines achieved a high specific capacity of 109C g −1 at a current density of 1 A g −1 after 2000 cycles and the capacities of 93.9C g −1 and 75.8C g −1 at the current densities of 2 and 4 A g −1 corresponding to 86% and 69% of the capacity obtained at 1 A g −1 , respectively. The rod-like MnMoO 4 crystallines showed superior long cycling and rate performances arising from two-dimensional nanoflakes, which provided more interfacial contacting between MnMoO 4 active material and electrolyte facilitating the diffusion of electrolyte and the charge transfer.
