The fibroblast growth factor receptor (FGFR) is a crucial receptor tyrosine kinase involved in essential biological processes, including growth, development, and tissue repair. However, FGFR gene mutations, including amplification, fusion, and mutation, can disrupt epigenetics, transcriptional regulation, and tumor microenvironment interactions, leading to cancer development. Targeting these kinase mutations with small molecule drugs or antibodies has shown clinical benefits. For example, erdafitinib is approved for treating locally advanced or metastatic urothelial cancer patients with FGFR2/FGFR3 mutations, and pemigatinib is approved for treating cholangiocarcinoma with FGFR2 fusion/rearrangement. Effective screening of FGFR variant patients is crucial for the clinical application of FGFR inhibitors. Various detection methods, such as polymerase chain reaction, next-generation sequencing, fluorescence in situ hybridization, and immunohistochemistry, are available, and their selection should be based on diagnostic and treatment decision-making needs. Our developed expert consensus aims to standardize the diagnosis and treatment process for FGFR gene mutations and facilitate the practical application of FGFR inhibitors in clinical practice.

Abstract Background Mandibular retraction is a prevalent dental and maxillofacial deformity that negatively affects patients' functional health and facial aesthetics. It has been challenging to achieve optimal outcomes for patients who have passed the peak of growth and development using only functional orthopedic treatment. There is a pressing need to explore innovative methods to promote the adaptive remodeling of adult condylar cartilage and the mandible in response to external stimuli. This study aimed to investigate the impact of varying injection frequencies of stem cells from the apical papilla (SCAPs) on the growth and development of condylar cartilage and the mandible, as well as their potential for adaptive remodeling. Methods The study was conducted on 8-week-old adult male Sprague–Dawley rats. The effects of SCAPs injection and different durations of mandibular advancement (MA) on the adaptive remodeling of condylar cartilage and the mandible were assessed. After the initial experimental findings, various injection frequencies of SCAPs were applied to determine the most effective conditions for promoting the growth and adaptive remodeling of condylar cartilage and the mandible during an 8-week period of mandibular advancement. Results The study found that rats with extended mandibular lead times (8 weeks) or an appropriately increased frequency of mandibular leading time (once every 2 weeks or once every 1 week) exhibited increased lengths of the mandibular body and ascending branch, and a thickened full layer of condylar cartilage. The highest proportions of the proliferative layer, mature layer, and hypertrophic layer were observed in these rats. Additionally, there was a significant increase in the expression levels of SOX9 and COL2A1. Conclusion The data from this study suggest that adult rats, even after missing their peak growth period, retain the potential for continued growth and development of their condylar cartilage. By prolonging the duration of mandibular advancement and administering injections of stem cells from the apical papilla (SCAPs), it is possible to stimulate the growth and development of the mandibular condyle.

Abstract Racial and ethnic disparities persist in cancer survival rates across the United States, despite overall improvements. This comprehensive analysis examines trends in 5-year relative survival rates from 2002–2006 to 2015–2019 for major cancer types, elucidating differences among racial/ethnic groups to guide equitable healthcare strategies. Data from the SEER Program spanning 2000–2020 were analyzed, focusing on breast, colorectal, prostate, lung, pancreatic cancers, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, acute leukemia, and multiple myeloma. Age-standardized relative survival rates were calculated to assess racial (White, Black, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian/Pacific Islander) and ethnic (Hispanic, Non-Hispanic) disparities, utilizing period analysis for recent estimates and excluding cases identified solely through autopsy or death certificates. While significant survival improvements were observed for most cancers, notable disparities persisted. Non-Hispanic Blacks exhibited the largest gain in breast cancer survival, with an increase of 5.2% points (from 77.6 to 82.8%); however, the survival rate remained lower than that of Non-Hispanic Whites (92.1%). Colorectal cancer survival declined overall (64.7–64.1%), marked by a 6.2% point drop for Non-Hispanic American Indian/Alaska Natives (66.3–60.1%). Prostate cancer survival declined across all races, with Non-Hispanic American Indian/Alaska Natives showing a decrease of 7.7% points (from 96.9 to 89.2%). Lung cancer, acute leukemia, and multiple myeloma showed notable increases across groups. Substantial racial/ethnic disparities in cancer survival underscore the notable need for tailored strategies ensuring equitable access to advanced treatments, particularly addressing significant trends in colorectal and pancreatic cancers among specific minority groups. Careful interpretation of statistical significance is warranted given the large dataset.

Abstract The oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) catalyzed by efficient and economical catalysts is critical for sustainable energy devices. Although the newly-emerging atomically dispersed platinum catalysts are highly attractive for maximizing atomic utilization, their catalytic selectivity and durability are severely limited by the inflexible valence transformation between Pt and supports. Here, we present a structure by anchoring Pt atoms onto valence-adjustable CuO x /Cu hybrid nanoparticle supports (Pt1-CuO x /Cu), in which the high-valence Cu (+2) in CuO x combined with zero-valent Cu (0) serves as a wide-range valence electron reservoir (0‒2e) to dynamically adjust the Pt 5d valence states during the ORR. In situ spectroscopic characterizations demonstrate that the dynamic evolution of the Pt 5d valence electron configurations could optimize the adsorption strength of *OOH intermediate and further accelerate the dissociation of O = O bonds for the four-electron ORR. As a result, the Pt1-CuO x /Cu catalysts deliver superior ORR performance with a significantly enhanced four-electron selectivity of over 97% and long-term durability.

Abstract In the process of group recommendation, due to the different preferences of group members, the recommendation results cannot meet the needs of all users. How to maximize the fairness of group recommendation is still a challenge. Therefore, this paper proposes a group recommendation algorithm based on user activity. Firstly, a group discovery algorithm based on item cluster preference was used to mine potential groups. Secondly, considering the dynamic change of activity, a sliding time window is designed to investigate the recent activity of each member in the group at the time of subgroup division, and the group is divided into active subgroup and inactive subgroup. Finally, the group recommendation list was generated by aggregating the subgroup preferences by average consensus. Experimental results on the public dataset show that compared with the AGREE algorithm, the recommendation accuracy and coverage of the proposed algorithm are improved by 2.1% and 2.9%, respectively. By focusing on the preference needs of inactive users, the proposed algorithm effectively improves the recommendation satisfaction and group fairness.

Determining the ecological risk and environmental significance of trace metal bioavailability is critical for the sustainability of the marine environment and bioresources. The spatial variation, controlling factors and ecological risks of the bioavailability of trace metals (V, Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Cd and Pb) in Daya Bay sediments were analyzed using BCR sequential extraction and diffusive gradient in thin films (DGT). Differences in concentration distributions between the anthropogenic impact zone (AIZ) and the marine disturbance zone (MDZ) revealed the accumulation of anthropogenic metals in sediments, and that the ocean dynamic conditions promoted the release of bioavailable metals from nature sediments. Fine-grained sediments rich in organic matter possessed more bioavailable metals on the surface. The negative correlations between salinity and the non-residual fractions (F123) suggests that salinity has the potential to inhibit the bioavailability of trace metals. Risk assessment based on total concentrations and acid soluble fractions (F1) showed that Cd was the dominant contributing element to the potential ecological risks with 55.8 %. The evaluation via DGT-labile concentrations indicated that Cu was the element of priority concern for aquatic exposure risk with a risk probability of 7.45 %, and the joint risk probability for metal mixture toxicity was 12.27 %. The exposure risk for aquatic biota was shown as molluscs (9.37 %) > algae (6.82 %) > crustaceans (6.21 %) > invertebrates (6.07 %) > fish (2.61 %). The results provide new clues for risk assessment and management of trace metals in coastal sediments.

Backgroud: Autoimmune diseases (AIDs) have been associated with various cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) in observational data. However, the causality of these associations remains uncertain. Therefore, a systematic assessment of the impact of AIDS on cardiovascular risk is required. Results: We assessed the impact of 19 common AIDs on 14 CVDs using bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR). Celiac disease (odds ratio [OR] = 2.949, 95 % confidence interval [CI]: 1.111–7.827, P = 0.030) and type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) (OR = 1.044, 95 % CI: 1.021–1.068, P = 1.82e-4) were associated with an increased risk of peripheral arterial disease (PAD). Additionally, celiac disease was linked to an increased risk of arrhythmia (OR = 1.008, 95 % CI: 1.002–1.013, P = 0.004), multiple sclerosis to venous thromboembolism (OR = 1.001, 95 % CI: 1.000–1.001, P = 0.010), and psoriasis to heart failure (OR = 1.048, 95 % CI: 1.021–1.077, P = 0.001). Sensitivity analyses were conducted to enhance the robustness of these findings. Predominantly, immune response and inflammation-related pathways were enriched in the aforementioned associations. Mediation analysis identified human leukocyte antigen-DR positive myeloid dendritic cells as partially mediating the effect of T1DM on PAD, with a mediated proportion of 16.61 % (P = 0.028). Potential therapeutic agents, such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha inhibitors and interferon, may have efficacy in treating AID-related CVDs. Conclusions: This study presents genetic evidence of certain AIDs impacting specific CVDs and identifies potential mediators and drugs.

The purpose of this study was to compare student performance and question discrimination of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) that followed a standard format (SF) versus those that do not follow a SF, termed here as non-standard format (NSF). Medical physiology exam results of approximately 500 first-year medical students collected over a five-year period (2020–2024) were used. Classical test theory item analysis indices, e.g. discrimination (D), point-biserial correlation (rpbis), distractor analysis for non-functional distractors (NFDs), and difficulty (p) were determined and compared across MCQ format types. The results presented here are the mean ± standard error of the mean (SEM). The analysis showed that D (0.278 ± 0.008 vs 0.228 ± 0.006) and rpbis (0.291 ± .006 vs 0.273 ± .006) were significantly higher for NSF questions compared to SF questions, indicating NSF questions provided more discriminatory power. In addition, the percentage of NFDs was lower for the NSF items compared to the SF ones (58.3 ± 0.019% vs 70.2 ± 0.015%). Also, the NSF questions proved to be more difficult relative to the SF questions (p = 0.741 ± 0.007 for NSF; p = 0.809 ± 0.006 for SF). Thus, the NSF questions discriminated better, had fewer NFDs, and were more difficult than SF questions. These data suggest that using the selected non-standard item writing questions can enhance the ability to discriminate higher performers from lower performers on MCQs as well as provide more rigour for exams.

The transformation and upgrading of the industrial structure constitute a pivotal task for sustainable economic development, and the factors influencing this process are also of concern to developing countries around the world. Unfortunately, there is still relatively little systematic discussion on the impact of environmental policy on the industrial structure. Against this backdrop, we have employed the multi-period differences-in-differences (DID) model to assess the impact of the implementation of the National Key Ecological Function Area (NKEFA) policy on the industrial structure in the Yellow River Basin. Our findings reveal that this environmental policy fosters the advancement of industrial structure but does not influence its rationalisation. Regarding mediating effects, we confirm the positive impacts of population density and the investment in education. Furthermore, the policy effects are more pronounced in non-ethnic provinces with better basic conditions, whereas ethnic provinces exhibit almost no effect. The policy effects are more significant in large cities than in small and medium-sized cities. These findings enrich the existing exploration of the impact of environmental policy on industrial structure and provide a strong reference for policy practice in developing countries.

BackgroundPre-eclampsia, characterized by hypertension and organ dysfunction during pregnancy, poses significant risks to both maternal and fetal health. Aspirin, known for its antiplatelet properties, has been extensively utilized to mitigate pregnancy-related complications. However, the efficacy of low-dose aspirin in managing pre-eclampsia among high-risk pregnant women and its potential impact on postpartum hemorrhage remain contentious topics.MethodsA retrospective analysis was conducted on 344 pregnant women diagnosed with high-risk factors for pre-eclampsia. Among them, 152 received intervention with low-dose aspirin, while the rest did not receive it. The incidence of pre-eclampsia, as well as related complications and outcomes associated with bleeding, were compared and evaluated between the two groups.ResultsThe study findings indicate a significant reduction in the incidence of pre-eclampsia among pregnant women receiving low-dose aspirin intervention, along with a significantly reduced risk of complications. Additionally, there was no significant statistical difference in postpartum hemorrhage between the two groups (p > 0.05). The safety profile of aspirin usage was found to be favorable.ConclusionLow-dose aspirin demonstrates promising efficacy as an intervention strategy for high-risk preeclamptic women. It does not increase the risk of postpartum hemorrhage and reduces the occurrence of complications associated with preeclampsia. Therefore, low-dose aspirin presents a potential preventive measure against adverse outcomes associated with high-risk pregnancies related to preeclampsia. Further research is necessary to validate and elucidate the optimal dosage and timing of administration for maximal benefits.

Abstract BackgroundVideo-based error correction (VBEC) in medical education could offer immediate feedback, promote enhanced learning retention, and foster reflective practice. However, its application in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training has not been investigated. ObjectiveThe objective of this study is to assess whether the VBEC procedure could improve the training performance of CPR among anesthesiology residents. MethodsA quasi-experimental study was conducted among anesthesiology residents between December 2022 and April 2023. Primary outcomes included a posttraining knowledge test and practical assessment scores. Secondary outcomes included the number of residents who correctly conducted CPR at each step, the rate of common mistakes during the CPR process, and the self-assessment results. A total of 80 anesthesiology residents were divided into a VBEC group (n=40) and a control group (n=40). The VBEC group underwent a 15-minute VBEC CPR training, whereas the control group underwent a 15-minute video-prompting CPR training. ResultsThe posttraining knowledge test score of the VBEC group was significantly higher than that of the control group (73, SD 10.5 vs 65.1, SD 11.4; PPPPP ConclusionsVBEC may be a promising strategy compared to video prompting for CPR training among anesthesiology residents.

Abstract Aims/Introduction Mitochondrial damage caused by oxidative stress is a main driver of pancreatic β‐cell dysfunction in the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Prohibitin2 (PHB2) is a vital inner mitochondrial membrane protein that participates in mitophagy to remove the damaged mitochondria. This study aimed to investigate the role and mechanisms of PHB2‐mediated mitophagy in oxidative stress‐induced pancreatic β‐cell dysfunction. Materials and Methods PHB2 and mitophagy‐related protein expression were analyzed by real‐time polymerase chain reaction and western blotting in RINm5F cells treated with H2O2 and islets of diabetic rats. Mitophagy was observed by mitochondrial and lysosome colocalization. RINm5F cells were transfected by phb2 siRNA or overexpression plasmid to explore the role of PHB2 in mitophagy of RINm5F cells. The mechanism of Nrf2 regulating PHB2 was explored by Nrf2 inhibitor and agonist. Results The expression of PHB2, mitophagy related protein PINK1, and Parkin were decreased in RINm5F cells incubated with H2O2 and in islets of diabetic rats. Overexpression of PHB2 protected β‐cells from oxidative stress by promoting mitophagy and inhibiting cell apoptosis, whereas transfection with PHB2 siRNA suppressed mitophagy. Furthermore, PHB2‐mediated mitophagy induced by oxidative stress was through the Nrf2/PHB2 pathway in β‐cells. Antioxidant NAC alleviated oxidative stress injury by promoting PHB2‐mediated mitophagy. Conclusion Our study suggested that PHB2‐mediated mitophagy can protect β‐cells from apoptosis via the Nrf2/PHB2 pathway under oxidative stress. Antioxidants may protect β‐cell from oxidative stress by prompting PHB2‐mediated mitophagy. PHB2‐mediated mitophagy as a potential mechanism takes part in the oxidative stress induced β‐cell injury.

Abstract In-depth comprehension and modulation of the electronic structure of the active metal sites is crucial to enhance their intrinsic activity of electrocatalytic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) toward anion exchange membrane water electrolyzers (AEMWEs). Here, we elaborate a series of amorphous metal oxide catalysts (FeCrOx, CoCrOx and NiCrOx) with high performance AEMWEs by high-valent chromium dopant. We discover that the positive effect of the transition from low to high valence of the Co site on the adsorption energy of the intermediate and the lower oxidation barrier is the key factor for its increased activity by synchrotron radiation in-situ techniques. Particularly, the CoCrOx anode catalyst achieves the high current density of 1.5 A cm−2 at 2.1 V and maintains for over 120 h with attenuation less than 4.9 mV h−1 in AEMWE testing. Such exceptional performance demonstrates a promising prospect for industrial application and providing general guidelines for the design of high-efficiency AEMWEs systems.

Summary: The building sector is integral to climate change mitigation in China as well as the globe. By considering the impact of green innovation, we explore the long-term trend of carbon emissions in China’s building sector until 2060, encompassing its entire life cycle. Results show that CO2 emissions of China’s building sector will peak at 6.98–7.69 Bt in 2035 and maintain at 1.11 Bt in 2060 under the business-as-usual (BAU) scenario. The “3060 dual carbon goal” will only be achieved under the technological breakthrough (TB) scenario. These findings show that existing or relatively lax policies are insufficient to achieve the “3060” goal for the building sector. China should actively pursue green technological innovation throughout the building sector’s life cycle, with a focus on accelerating the green and low-carbon production of key products, such as steel and cement, at the building material production stage.

Background: Tumor necrosis (TN) is a common feature in lung squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC), which could provide useful predictive and prognostic information. Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the effect of pretreatment pulmonary TN (PTN) on the prognosis of first-line anti-programmed cell death 1 (PD-1)/PD ligand 1 (PD-L1) inhibitor in advanced LSCC. Design: We conducted a retrospective study to analyze the association between the presence of PTN and clinical outcomes in advanced LSCC patients treated with anti-PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors. Methods: Data from 240 eligible patients were collected from 27 hospitals across China between 2016 and 2020. The presence of PTN was assessed using contrast-enhanced chest computed tomography (CT) imaging at baseline. We utilized the Cox proportional-hazards regression model to analyze the association between PTN and clinical outcomes. In addition, to account for potential confounding factors and ensure comparability between groups, we employed propensity score-matching (PSM) analysis. Results: In the overall patient cohort, the presence of PTN was 39.6%. The median follow-up duration was 20.3 months. The positive PTN group exhibited a notably inferior median progression-free survival (PFS; 6.5 months vs 8.6 months, p = 0.012) compared to the negative PTN group. Within the Cox proportional-hazards regression model, PTN emerged as an independent predictor of unfavorable PFS (hazard ratio (HR) = 1.354, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.002–1.830, p = 0.049). After PSM, the median PFS for the positive PTN group (6.5 months vs 8.0 months, p = 0.027) remained worse than that of the negative PTN group. Multivariate analyses also further underscored that the presence of PTN independently posed a risk for shorter PFS (HR = 1.494, 95% CI: 1.056–2.112, p = 0.023). However, no statistically significant difference in overall survival was observed between the two groups. Conclusion: Our study suggests that the presence of PTN on baseline contrast-enhanced chest CT is a potential negative prognostic imaging biomarker for the outcome of anti-PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitor therapy in advanced LSCC. Further studies are warranted to validate these findings and explore the underlying mechanisms.

Abstract Nodal spreading influence is the capability of a node to activate the rest of the network when it is the seed of spreading. Combining nodal properties (centrality metrics) derived from local and global topological information respectively has been shown to better predict nodal influence than using a single metric. In this work, we investigate to what extent local and global topological information around a node contributes to the prediction of nodal influence and whether relatively local information is sufficient for the prediction. We show that by leveraging the iterative process used to derive a classical nodal centrality such as eigenvector centrality, we can define an iterative metric set that progressively incorporates more global information around the node. We propose to predict nodal influence using an iterative metric set that consists of an iterative metric from order 1 to K produced in an iterative process, encoding gradually more global information as K increases. Three iterative metrics are considered, which converge to three classical node centrality metrics, respectively. In various real-world networks and synthetic networks with community structures, we find that the prediction quality of each iterative based model converges to its optimal when the metric of relatively low orders ( $$K\sim 4$$ K ∼ 4 ) are included and increases only marginally when further increasing K. This fast convergence of prediction quality with K is further explained by analyzing the correlation between the iterative metric and nodal influence, the convergence rate of each iterative process and network properties. The prediction quality of the best performing iterative metric set with $$K=4$$ K = 4 is comparable with the benchmark method that combines seven centrality metrics: their prediction quality ratio is within the range $$[91\%,106\%]$$ [ 91 % , 106 % ] across all three quality measures and networks. In two spatially embedded networks with an extremely large diameter, however, iterative metric of higher orders, thus a large K, is needed to achieve comparable prediction quality with the benchmark.

Abstract This was a single-arm, multicenter phase 2 clinical trial (ChiCTR1900021726) involving advanced squamous non-small cell lung cancer (sq-NSCLC) patients undergoing 2 cycles of nab-paclitaxel/carboplatin and sintilimab (anti-PD-1), followed by sintilimab maintenance therapy. The median progression-free survival (PFS) was 11.4 months (95% CI: 6.7-18.1), which met the pre-specified primary endpoint. Secondary endpoints included objective response rate reaching 70.5% and a disease control rate of 93.2%, with a median duration of response of 13.6 months [95% CI: 7.0–not evaluable (NE)]. The median overall survival was 27.2 months (95% CI: 20.2–NE) with treatment-related adverse events grades ≥3 occurring in 10.9% of patients. Predefined exploratory endpoints comprised relationships between biomarkers and treatment efficacy, and the association between circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) dynamics and PFS. Biomarker analysis revealed that the breast cancer gene 2, BMP/Retinoic Acid Inducible Neural Specific 3, F-box/WD repeat-containing protein 7, tyrosine-protein kinase KIT and retinoblastoma 1 abnormalities led to shorter PFS, while ctDNA negative at baseline or clearance at 2 cycles of treatment was associated with longer PFS (18.1 vs. 4.3 months). Taken together, sintilimab in combination with 2 cycles of nab-paclitaxel/carboplatin treatment produced encouraging PFS and better tolerability as first-line treatment for advanced sq-NSCLC.

Abstract Immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) rechallenge in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is a promising therapeutic strategy. The situation for ICI rechallenge can be divided into three categories: adverse events (AEs); resistance to ICIs, and rechallenge becomes compulsive because of tumor relapse while the patients had completed a 2 year course of immunotherapy. However, these categories are still controversial and should be explored further. Through voting at the 6th Straits Summit Forum on Lung Cancer, in this study we summarize the consensus of 147 experts in ICI rechallenges. A total of 97.74% experts agreed to rechallenge; 48.87% experts rechallenge with the original drug, and the others rechallenge with a different drug; 40.3% agreed to rechallenge directly after progression; 88.06% experts agreed to ICI rechallenge with a combination regimen; and factors such as previous performance status score, PD‐1 expression, and age should also be considered. Understanding the the clinical studies in ICI rechallenge could bring us one step closer to understanding the consensus. In patients with advanced NSCLC who have suffered recurrent or distant metastasis after immunotherapy, the option of rechallenge with ICIs is a promising treatment option.

The fusion genes NRG1 and NRG2, members of the epidermal growth factor (EGF) receptor family, have emerged as key drivers in cancer. Upon fusion, NRG1 retains its EGF-like active domain, binds to the ERBB ligand family, and triggers intracellular signaling cascades, promoting uncontrolled cell proliferation. The incidence of NRG1 gene fusion varies across cancer types, with lung cancer being the most prevalent at 0.19 to 0.27%. CD74 and SLC3A2 are the most frequently observed fusion partners. RNA-based next-generation sequencing is the primary method for detecting NRG1 and NRG2 gene fusions, whereas pERBB3 immunohistochemistry can serve as a rapid prescreening tool for identifying NRG1-positive patients. Currently, there are no approved targeted drugs for NRG1 and NRG2. Common treatment approaches involve pan-ERBB inhibitors, small molecule inhibitors targeting ERBB2 or ERBB3, and monoclonal antibodies. Given the current landscape of NRG1 and NRG2 in solid tumors, a consensus among diagnostic and treatment experts is proposed, and clinical trials hold promise for benefiting more patients with NRG1 and NRG2 gene fusion solid tumors.

The Loess Plateau is marked by intense neotectonic activity and frequent earthquakes. Its unique physico-mechanical properties, combined with the granular overhead pore structure of loess, render it prone to seismic landslides triggered by strong earthquakes. Different types of loess seismic landslides have distinct formation mechanisms, disaster-causing characteristics, and risk assessment programs. In this study, the risk of seismic-collapsed loess landslides as one of the types of loess seismic landslides was evaluated on the Loess Plateau. A risk zoning map for seismic-collapsed loess landslides on the Loess Plateau, considering various exceedance probabilities, was compiled by assessing eight factors. These factors include peak ground acceleration, microstructure of loess, and were evaluated using both the minimum disaster-causing seismic peak ground acceleration zoning method and the analytic hierarchy process. The following conclusions were obtained: (1) Earthquakes are the primary inducing factor for seismic-collapsed loess landslides, with other factors serving as influencers, among which the microstructure of loess carries the highest weight; (2) Across various exceedance probabilities, the likelihood of seismic-collapsed loess landslides occurring at 63% of the 50-year exceedance probability is low. Moreover, as the minimum hazard-causing seismic peak ground acceleration increases, the risk of occurrence of seismic-collapsed loess landslides rises, leading to a gradual expansion of the area share in moderate and high-risk zones; (3) Hazard evaluation results align well with existing data on seismic-collapsed loess landslides and findings from field investigations. The case of seismic-collapsed loess landslides induced by the M6.2 magnitude earthquake in Jishishan County, China, is presented as an illustration. The combined use of the minimum hazard-causing seismic peak ground acceleration zoning method and the analytic hierarchy process method offers a reference for geohazard hazard assessment, with earthquakes as the primary inducing factor and other factors as influencers.

The potentially lethal zoonotic disease alveolar echinococcosis (AE) is caused by the metacestode larval stages of the tapeworm Echinococcus multilocularis. Metacestode growth and proliferation occurs within the inner organs of mammalian hosts, which is associated with complex molecular parasite–host interactions. The host has developed various ways to resist a parasitic infection, and the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) is one of the most important strategies. Here, we found that scavenging of ROS reduced metacestode larval growth and germinative cell proliferation in in vivo models. Furthermore, using in vitro-cultured metacestode vesicles, we found that increased ROS levels enhanced metacestode growth and germinative cell proliferation, which was achieved by positively activating the ROS-EmERK-EmHIF1α axis. These results indicate that, beside its capacity to damage the parasite, ROS also play critical roles in metacestode growth and germinative cell proliferation. This study suggests that the effects of ROS on parasite may be bidirectional during AE infection, reflecting the parasite’s adaptation to the oxidative stress microenvironment.

Background Acute exacerbation (AE) is a life-threatening condition taking place not only in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) but also in interstitial lung diseases (ILD) other than IPF (non-IPF ILD). This study aims to compare the clinical manifestations between patients hospitalised with AE-IPF and AE-non-IPF ILD, and further analyse the risk factors related to in-hospital mortality.Methods Clinical data of 406 patients hospitalised with AE-IPF (93 cases) and AE-non-IPF ILD (313 cases) were retrospectively collected. Clinical features were compared between the two groups. Risk factors related to in-hospital mortality in patients with overall AE-ILD, AE-IPF and AE-non-IPF ILD were identified by multiple logistic regression analyses, respectively, and assessed by receiver operating characteristic curve.Results In addition to having more smokers and males, the AE-IPF group also had more respiratory failure on admission, comorbidities of pulmonary hypertension (PAH) or coronary artery disease/heart failure, a longer history of pre-existing ILD. Comorbidity of coronary heart disease/heart failure, respiratory failure at admission, neutrophil (N)%, serum hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase (HBDH), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and low cholesterol levels were independent risk factors for patients with AE-ILD, while respiratory failure on admission, N%, serum HBDH, urea nitrogen, LDH and low albumin levels were risk factors for the AE-non-IPF ILD group, and fever, N% and PAH were the AE-IPF group’s. Among them, HBDH 0.758 (sensitivity 85.5%, specificity 56%, cut-off 237.5 U/L) for patients with AE-ILD; N% 0.838 (sensitivity 62.5%, specificity 91.18%, cut-off 83.55%) for the AE-IPF group and HBDH 0.779 (sensitivity 86.4%, specificity 55.1%, cut-off 243.5 U/L) for the AE-non-IPF ILD group were the risk factors with the highest area under the curve.Conclusions Clinical characteristics differ between patients with AE-IPF and AE-non-IPF ILD. HBDH outperformed LDH in predicting the prognosis for patients with AE-ILD and AE-non-IPF ILD. N% was an independent predictor of death in-hospital in all three groups, especially in the AE-IPF group.

Background: Different types of inflammatory processes and fibrosis have been implicated in the pathogenesis of interstitial lung disease (ILD), a heterogeneous, diffuse, parenchymal lung disease. Acute exacerbation (AE) of ILD is characterized by significant respiratory deterioration and is associated with high mortality rates. Several serum oncomarkers have been used to determine the prognosis of ILD; however, the prognostic value of serum oncomarker levels in patients with AE-ILD remains unclear. Objective: To evaluate the prognostic value of serum oncomarker levels in patients with AE-ILD and its main subtypes. Design: Retrospective study Methods: The serum levels of 8 oncomarkers in 281 patients hospitalized with AE-ILD at our institution between 2017 and 2022 were retrospectively reviewed. The baseline characteristics and serum oncomarker levels were compared between the survival and non-survival groups of AE-ILD and its main subtypes. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to identify independent prognosis-related markers, and the best prognostic predictor was analyzed using receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analysis. Result: Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF; n = 65), idiopathic nonspecific interstitial pneumonia (iNSIP; n = 26), and connective tissue disease-associated interstitial lung disease (CTD-ILD; n = 161) were the three main subtypes of ILD. The in-hospital mortality rate among patients with AE-ILD was 21%. The serum oncomarker levels of most patients with AE-ILD and its main subtypes in the non-survival group were higher than those in the survival group. Multivariate analysis revealed that ferritin and cytokeratin 19 fragments (CYFRA21-1) were independent prognostic risk factors for patients hospitalized with AE-ILD or AE-CTD-ILD. CYFRA21-1 was identified as an independent prognostic risk factor for patients hospitalized with AE-IPF or AE-iNSIP. Conclusion: CYFRA21-1 may be a viable biomarker for predicting the prognosis of patients with AE-ILD, regardless of the underlying subtype of ILD. Ferritin has a prognostic value in patients with AE-ILD or AE-CTD-ILD.

The heavy metal(loid)s (HMs) in soils can be accumulated by crops grown, which is accompanied by crop ingestion into the human body and then causes harm to human health. Hence, the health risks posed by HMs in three crops for different populations were assessed using Health risk assessment (HRA) model coupled with Monte Carlo simulation. Results revealed that Zn had the highest concentration among three crops; while Ni was the main polluting element in maize and soybean, and As in rice. Non-carcinogenic risk for all populations through rice ingestion was at an “unacceptable” level, and teenagers suffered higher risk than adults and children. All populations through ingestion of three crops might suffer Carcinogenic risk, with the similar order of Total carcinogenic risk (TCR): TCRAdults > TCRTeenagers > TCRChildren. As and Ni were identified as priority control HMs in this study area due to their high contribution rates to health risks. According to the HRA results, the human health risk was associated with crop varieties, HM species, and age groups. Our findings suggest that only limiting the Maximum allowable intake rate is not sufficient to prevent health risks caused by crop HMs, thus more risk precautions are needed.

Background: This study aims to determine the efficacy and safety profile of aumolertinib in the real-word treatment setting for advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients harboring epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations.Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 173 EGFR-mutated advanced NSCLC patients who received aumolertinib treatment at Henan Cancer Hospital from April 2020 to December 2022. Progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were evaluated using Kaplan–Meier survival curves, while a Cox regression model was used for multifactorial analysis and prognostic factor assessment.Results: Among patients administered first-line aumolertinib (n = 77), the objective remission rate (ORR) of 77.92% was observed, along with a disease control rate (DCR) of 100%. The median progression-free survival (mPFS) was 24.97 months, which did not reach the median overall survival (mOS). The patients treated with aumolertinib after progression on prior EGFR-tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) therapy (n = 96) exhibited an ORR of 46.88%, a DCR of 89.58%, an mPFS of 15.17 months, and an mOS of 21.27 months. First-line treatment multivariate Cox regression analysis demonstrated a statistically significant impact of elevated creatine kinase on PFS (p = 0.016) and a similar significant influence of co-mutation on OS (p = 0.034). Furthermore, subsequent-line treatment multivariate Cox regression analysis showed a statistically significant impact of elevated creatine kinase on median PFS (p = 0.026) and a significant effect on the number of metastatic organs (p = 0.017), co-mutation (p = 0.035), and elevated creatine kinase (p = 0.014) on median OS.Conclusion: Aumolertinib has shown clinical significance and can safely be used in the real-world setting for patients with EGFR mutation-positive NSCLC.

Abstract Immune checkpoint inhibitors (PD‐1/PD‐L1 and CTLA‐4 blockade) have revolutionized the treatment landscape in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Secondary resistance to immunotherapy (IO), which poses a substantial challenge in clinical settings, occurs in several initial responders. Currently, new treatment approaches have been extensively evaluated in investigational studies for these patients to tackle this difficult problem; however, the lack of consistency in clinical definition, uniform criteria for enrollment in clinical trials, and interpretation of results remain significant hurdles to progress. Thus, our expert panel comprehensively synthesized data from current studies to propose a practical clinical definition of secondary resistance to immunotherapy in NSCLC in metastatic and neoadjuvant settings. In addition to patients who received IO alone (including IO‐IO combinations), we also generated a definition for patients treated with chemotherapy plus IO. This consensus aimed to provide guidance for clinical trial design and facilitate future discussions with investigators. It should be noted that additional updates in this consensus are required when new data is available.

Abstract Aims To investigate the predictive value of baseline C-reactive protein (CRP) levels on the efficacy of chemotherapy plus immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) in patients with advanced lung squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC). Materials and methods In this retrospective multicenter study spanning from January 2016 to December 2020, advanced LSCC patients initially treated with chemotherapy or a combination of chemotherapy and ICI were categorized into normal and elevated CRP subgroups. The relationship between CRP levels and treatment outcomes was analyzed using multivariate Cox proportional hazards models and multivariate logistic regression, focusing primarily on the progression-free survival (PFS) endpoint, and secondarily on overall survival (OS) and objective response rate (ORR) endpoints. Survival curves were generated using the Kaplan-Meier method, with the log-rank test used for comparison between groups. Results Of the 245 patients evaluated, the 105 who received a combination of chemotherapy and ICI with elevated baseline CRP levels exhibited a significant reduction in PFS (median 6.5 months vs. 11.8 months, HR, 1.78; 95% CI: 1.12–2.81; p = 0.013) compared to those with normal CRP levels. Elevated CRP was identified as an independent risk factor for poor PFS through multivariate-adjusted analysis. However, among the 140 patients receiving chemotherapy alone, baseline CRP levels did not significantly influence PFS. Furthermore, within the combination therapy group, there was a notable decrease in the ORR (51% vs. 71%, p = 0.035), coupled with a significantly shorter OS (median 20.9 months vs. 31.5 months, HR, 2.24; 95% CI: 1.13–4.44; p = 0.033). Conclusion In patients with advanced LSCC, elevated baseline CRP levels were identified as an independent predictive factor for the efficacy of combination therapy with chemotherapy and ICI, but not in chemotherapy alone. This suggests that CRP may be a valuable biomarker for guiding treatment strategies.

Abstract Temporal networks are networks whose topology changes over time. Two nodes in a temporal network are connected at a discrete time step only if they have a contact/interaction at that time. The classic temporal network prediction problem aims to predict the temporal network one time step ahead based on the network observed in the past of a given duration. This problem has been addressed mostly via machine learning algorithms, at the expense of high computational costs and limited interpretation of the underlying mechanisms that form the networks. Hence, we propose to predict the connection of each node pair one step ahead based on the connections of this node pair itself and of node pairs that share a common node with this target node pair in the past. The concrete design of our two prediction models is based on the analysis of the memory property of real-world physical networks, i.e., to what extent two snapshots of a network at different times are similar in topology (or overlap). State-of-the-art prediction methods that allow interpretation are considered as baseline models. In seven real-world physical contact networks, our methods are shown to outperform the baselines in both prediction accuracy and computational complexity. They perform better in networks with stronger memory. Importantly, our models reveal how the connections of different types of node pairs in the past contribute to the connection estimation of a target node pair. Predicting temporal networks like physical contact networks in the long-term future beyond short-term i.e., one step ahead is crucial to forecast and mitigate the spread of epidemics and misinformation on the network. This long-term prediction problem has been seldom explored. Therefore, we propose basic methods that adapt each aforementioned prediction model to address classic short-term network prediction problem for long-term network prediction task. The prediction quality of all adapted models is evaluated via the accuracy in predicting each network snapshot and in reproducing key network properties. The prediction based on one of our models tends to have the highest accuracy and lowest computational complexity.

Abstract The rearranged during transfection (RET) gene is one of the receptor tyrosine kinases and cell‐surface molecules responsible for transmitting signals that regulate cell growth and differentiation. In non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), RET fusion is a rare driver gene alteration associated with a poor prognosis. Fortunately, two selective RET inhibitors (sRETi), namely pralsetinib and selpercatinib, have been approved for treating RET fusion NSCLC due to their remarkable efficacy and safety profiles. These inhibitors have shown the ability to overcome resistance to multikinase inhibitors (MKIs). Furthermore, ongoing clinical trials are investigating several second‐generation sRETis that are specifically designed to target solvent front mutations, which pose a challenge for first‐generation sRETis. The effective screening of patients is the first crucial step in the clinical application of RET‐targeted therapy. Currently, four methods are widely used for detecting gene rearrangements: next‐generation sequencing (NGS), reverse transcription‐polymerase chain reaction (RT‐PCR), fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), and immunohistochemistry (IHC). Each of these methods has its advantages and limitations. To streamline the clinical workflow and improve diagnostic and treatment strategies for RET fusion NSCLC, our expert group has reached a consensus. Our objective is to maximize the clinical benefit for patients and promote standardized approaches to RET fusion screening and therapy.

Full-thickness skin wounds are have continued to be reconstructive challenges in dermal and skin appendage regeneration, and skin substitutes are promising tools for addressing these reconstructive procedures. Herein, the one-step fabrication of a cell sheet integrated with a biomimetic hydrogel as a tissue engineered skin for skin wound healing generated in one step is introduced. Briefly, cell sheets with rich extracellular matrix, high cell density, and good cell connections were integrated with biomimetic hydrogel to fabricate gel + human skin fibroblasts (HSFs) sheets and gel + human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) sheets in one step for assembly as a cell sheet-laden hydrogel (CSH). The designed biomimetic hydrogel formed with UV crosslinking and ionic crosslinking exhibited unique properties due to the photo-generated aldehyde groups, which were suitable for integrating into the cell sheet, and ionic crosslinking reduced the adhesive force toward the substrate. These properties allowed the gel + cell sheet film to be easily released from the substrate. The cells in the harvested cell sheet maintained excellent viability, proliferation, and definite migration abilities inside the hydrogel. Moreover, the CSH was implanted into a full-thickness skin defects to construct a required dermal matrix and cell microenvironment. The wound closure rate reached 60.00 ± 6.26% on the 2nd day, accelerating mature granulation and dermis formation with skin appendages after 14 days. This project can provide distinct guidance and strategies for the complete repair and regeneration of full-thickness skin defects, and provides a material with great potential for tissue regeneration in clinical applications.

The impact of porcine circovirus (PCV) on the worldwide pig industry is profound, leading to notable economic losses. Early and prompt identification of PCV is essential in managing and controlling this disease effectively. A range of detection techniques for PCV have been developed and primarily divided into two categories focusing on nucleic acid or serum antibody identification. The methodologies encompass conventional polymerase chain reaction (PCR), real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR (qPCR), fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP), immunofluorescence assay (IFA), immunohistochemistry (IHC), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Despite their efficacy, these techniques are often impeded by the necessity for substantial investment in equipment, specialized knowledge, and intricate procedural steps, which complicate their application in real-time field detections. To surmount these challenges, a sensitive, rapid, and specific PCV detection method using Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats (CRISPR)-Cas12a/13a coupled with isothermal amplification, such as enzymatic recombinase amplification (ERA), recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA), and loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP), has been developed. This novel method has undergone meticulous optimization for detecting PCV types 2, 3, and 4, boasting a remarkable sensitivity to identify a single copy per microliter. The specificity of this technique is exemplary, with no observable interaction with other porcine viruses such as PEDV, PRRSV, PRV, and CSFV. Its reliability has been validated with clinical samples, where it produced a perfect alignment with qPCR findings, showcasing a 100% coincidence rate. The elegance of merging CRISPR-Cas technology with isothermal amplification assays lies in its on-site testing without the need for expensive tools or trained personnel, rendering it exceptionally suitable for on-site applications, especially in resource-constrained swine farming environments. This review assesses and compares the process and characteristics inherent in the utilization of ERA/LAMP/RPA-CRISPR-Cas12a/Cas13a methodologies for the detection of PCV, providing critical insights into their practicality and effectiveness.

Abstract Background Cervical cancer is a common gynecological malignancy. Gene microarray found that TCP11 gene was highly expressed in cervical cancer. However, the effect of TCP11 gene on the proliferation, apoptosis and migration of cervical cancer cells and its underlying molecular mechanisms are unclear. Methods GEPIA database, tissue microarray, western blot and qRT-PCR were used to analyze the expression of TCP11 gene in cervical cancer tissues and cells and its relationship with patients’ survival rate. The cell cycle and apoptosis were detected by flow cytometry, and the expressions of cell cycle and apoptosis related molecules and EMT-related molecules were detected by Western blot and qRT-PCR. Results The results showed that TCP11 gene was highly expressed in cervical cancer tissues and cells compared with normal cervical tissues and cells, and its expression was positively correlated with patients’ survival rate. The results of proliferation and migration assays showed that TCP11 overexpression inhibited the proliferation and migration of HeLa and SiHa cells. The results showed that TCP11 overexpression blocked the cell cycle of HeLa and SiHa cells, decreased the expression of CDK1 and Cyclin B1, and increased the apoptosis and the expression of caspase-3, cleaved-caspase-3 and cleaved-PARP. TCP11 overexpression increased the protein and mRNA expression of EMT-related molecules ZO-1 and E-cadherin. Conversely, TCP11 knockdown promoted the proliferation of HeLa and SiHa cells and the migration of HeLa cells. Conclusions TCP11 overexpression significantly inhibited the occurrence and development of cervical cancer cells, it may be a potentially beneficial biomarker for cervical cancer.

Fast-paced trauma imaging can result in misses relating to the nonosseous structures included in the field of view. We report a case of a Bosniak type III renal cyst, later found to be clear cell renal cell carcinoma, incidentally noted on post-traumatic CT of the thoracic and lumbar spine. This case includes a discussion of the circumstances which could result in a radiologist missing this finding, the idea of satisfaction of search, the importance of maintaining a thorough search pattern, and the management and communication of incidental findings.

ObjectivesIdiopathic inflammatory myopathy (IIM) frequently coexists with interstitial pneumonia (IP) and is commonly the initial or sole manifestation accompanied by positive myositis-specific autoantibodies (MSAs), even in the absence of meeting diagnostic criteria. This study aims to evaluate the proportion of progressive pulmonary fibrosis (PPF) and identify potential predictors influencing the progression of pulmonary fibrosis in patients with MSA-IP.MethodsThis descriptive study employed a retrospective cohort design, enrolling patients diagnosed with interstitial pneumonia and positive MSAs at Beijing Chao-Yang Hospital in a sequential manner. Clinical data were systematically collected from the patients’ medical records during regular follow-up visits conducted every 3 to 6 months. Cox regression analysis was utilized to identify independent predictors of PPF in patients with positive MSAs and interstitial pneumonia.ResultsA total of 307 patients were included in the study, with 30.6% of them developing PPF during a median follow-up period of 22 months. Kaplan–Meier survival curves demonstrated a significantly lower survival in the PPF patients compared to the non-PPF patients (median 11.6 months vs. 31 months, p = 0.000). An acute/subacute onset of interstitial pneumonia (HR 3.231, 95%CI 1.936–5.392, p = 0.000), lower diffusing capacity of the lungs for carbon monoxide (DLCO) % predicted (HR 6.435, 95%CI 4.072–10.017, p = 0.001), and the presence of diffuse alveolar damage (DAD) on high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) (HR 8.679, 95%CI 1.974–38.157, p = 0.004) emerged as independent predictors of PPF. Notably, the implementation of triple therapy comprising glucocorticoids, immunosuppressants, and antifibrotic drugs was associated with a reduced risk of developing PPF (HR 0.322, 95%CI 0.115–0.899, p = 0.031).ConclusionApproximately 30.6% of patients with MSA-IP may develop PPF within the follow-up period. Patients presenting with an acute/subacute onset of interstitial pneumonia, lower predicted DLCO SB% and evidence of DAD on HRCT are more susceptible to developing PPF. Conversely, the administration of triple therapy appears to serve as a protective factor against the development of PPF in patients with MSA-IP.

Sepsis-induced cardiomyopathy (SIC) is characterized by high mortality and poor outcomes. This study aimed to explore the relationship between testosterone and soluble ST2 (sST2) and all-cause mortality in patients with SIC. Clinical data from SIC patients at Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University from January 2021 and March 2023 were reviewed. Serum testosterone and sST2 were measured at admission. Kaplan–Meier analysis and receiver operative characteristic curve (ROC) were used to estimate the predictive values of testosterone and sST2 on 28 days and 90 days mortality of SIC. A total of 327 male subjects with SIC were enrolled in this study. During the 28 days and 90 days follow-up, 87 (26.6%) and 103 deaths (31.5%) occurred, respectively. Abstract EGFR exon 20 insertion (20ins)-positive non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is an uncommon disease with limited therapeutic options and dismal prognosis. Here we report the activity, tolerability, potential mechanisms of response and resistance for dual targeting EGFR 20ins with JMT101 (anti-EGFR monoclonal antibody) plus osimertinib from preclinical models and an open label, multi-center phase 1b trial (NCT04448379). Primary endpoint of the trial is tolerability. Secondary endpoints include objective response rate, duration of response, disease control rate, progression free survival, overall survival, the pharmacokinetic profile of JMT101, occurrence of anti-drug antibodies and correlation between biomarkers and clinical outcomes. A total of 121 patients are enrolled to receive JMT101 plus osimertinib 160 mg. The most common adverse events are rash (76.9%) and diarrhea (63.6%). The confirmed objective response rate is 36.4%. Median progression-free survival is 8.2 months. Median duration of response is unreached. Subgroup analyses were performed by clinicopathological features and prior treatments. In patients with platinum-refractory diseases (n = 53), confirmed objective response rate is 34.0%, median progression-free survival is 9.2 months and median duration of response is 13.3 months. Responses are observed in distinct 20ins variants and intracranial lesions. Intracranial disease control rate is 87.5%. Confirmed intracranial objective response rate is 25%.

[Objective] The characteristics of sand and dust transport amount and particle size on the windward and leeward sides of a natural Populus euphratica riparian forest at the Arghan section of the lower reaches of the Tarim River under the prevailing wind direction were studied in order to provide a theoretical basis for its windbreak and sand fixation capacity. [Methods] Sediments were collected from two windward sites (Y1 and Y2) and two leeward sites (B1 and B2) of the forest at five heights of 10, 30, 50, 100, and 150 cm near the surface using a BSNE sand collector. The particle size characteristics of the sand samples were then measured using a Microtrac S3500 laser diffraction particle size analyzer. [Results] ① The horizontal flux of sand and dust in the four sample plots followed either a power function or exponential function distribution, and total sediment transport followed the order of Y1 > Y2 > B1 > B2. The sediment transport for each sample plot decreased with increasing height from the soil surface. ② The reduction of sediment on the leeward side compared with the windward side ranged from 35% to 80% less than on the windward side, indicating that the natural P. euphratica riparian forest in the lower reaches of the Tarim River has obvious windbreak and sand fixation benefits. ③ The average particle size of sand grains at all heights was 80~93 μm, mainly composed of extremely fine sand. The particle size frequency curve showed a single peak distribution, and the sand dust composition was simple, mainly composed of local sand sources. [Conclusion] The sediment transport on the leeward side of the natural P. euphratica riparian forest in the study area was lower than that of the windward side. Average particle size was smaller and sorting performance was better on the leeward side than on windward side. The average particle size smaller than that of the windward side, the sorting was better than that of the windward side, the kurtosis was narrower than that of windward side, and skewness is slightly smaller than that of the windward side. The P. euphratica riparian forest exhibited obvious windbreak and sand fixation benefits, and can be used as an effective measure to reduce the damage by wind and sand transport in the study area.

Abstract Background The aim of this study is to report our institution’s experience regarding the application of allogeneic tendons for the reconstruction of malunited lateral malleolar avulsion fractures with chronic lateral ankle instability. Methods This retrospective study included 34 (34 ankles) patients surgically treated for malunited lateral malleolar avulsion fractures with chronic lateral ankle instability from January 2016 to December 2019. All patients underwent allogeneic tendon reconstruction. The pre- and postoperative American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) scores、Karlsson Ankle Functional Scores (KAFS) and visual analogue scale (VAS) scores were used to evaluate the functional recovery of the ankle joint. The final follow-up, based on radiographic assessment, including talar tilt and anterior talar translation, was performed to evaluate the stability of the postoperative ankle joints. Results Thirty-two patients (32 ankles) returned for final clinical and radiologic follow-up at an average of 29 (range 24–35) months and 2 patients (2 ankles) were lost to follow-up. The preoperative talus inclination angle (13.6 ± 1.9°) and anterior displacement (9.6 ± 2.8 mm) were re-examined under X-ray and found to be reduced to 3.4 ± 1.2° and 3.8 ± 1.1 mm, respectively (p＜0.01). Abstract Human social interactions are typically recorded as time-specific dyadic interactions, and represented as evolving (temporal) networks, where links are activated/deactivated over time. However, individuals can interact in groups of more than two people. Such group interactions can be represented as higher-order events of an evolving network. Here, we propose methods to characterize the temporal-topological properties of higher-order events to compare networks and identify their (dis)similarities. We analyzed 8 real-world physical contact networks, finding the following: (a) Events of different orders close in time tend to be also close in topology; (b) Nodes participating in many different groups (events) of a given order tend to involve in many different groups (events) of another order; Thus, individuals tend to be consistently active or inactive in events across orders; (c) Local events that are close in topology are correlated in time, supporting observation (a). Differently, in 5 collaboration networks, observation (a) is almost absent; Consistently, no evident temporal correlation of local events has been observed in collaboration networks. Such differences between the two classes of networks may be explained by the fact that physical contacts are proximity based, in contrast to collaboration networks. Our methods may facilitate the investigation of how properties of higher-order events affect dynamic processes unfolding on them and possibly inspire the development of more refined models of higher-order time-varying networks.

Nowadays, due to their characteristics of high efficiency and energy saving, frequency converters are used in coal mine excavation machines and ventilation machines. They can cause serious electromagnetic radiation interference with the surrounding monitoring, sensing and other equipment. Therefore, it is necessary to explore the electromagnetic interference characteristics of mining converters. By choosing a ZJT-75/660SF mine frequency converter as the research object, an antenna model was established, and the method of moments was used to solve the problem. The electromagnetic radiation characteristics of the frequency converter were analyzed, and a field experiment was conducted to verify the effectiveness of the model by comparing the simulation and experimental data. According to the analysis of the electromagnetic intensity distribution characteristics of the near field and far field, the near-field intensity is concentrated in the inner part of the converter, but the far-field intensity has obvious directional characteristics, which are found to provide a reference value for the location of the underground mining converter. Finally, a method is proposed to improve electromagnetic radiation disturbance by changing the structure of the converter’s heat dissipation hole, and the feasibility of this method is verified.

The sample carried back by the Mars Ascent Vehicle (MAV) is a potential flagship mission of deep space exploration in recent years. A low-gravity simulation experiment is an effective method and a necessary stage for verifying the performance of the MAV launch dynamic in Earth’s gravity. In this paper, the uniqueness of low-gravity simulation is illustrated by the classical pulley balance method for the high dynamic process of a test model of the MAV. Its movement direction is the same as the compensation force, which leads to the relaxation of the sling and the failure of the compensation force in traditional cable suspension. Here, three cable suspension schemes including an improved pulley balancing scheme based on a coordinate transformation scheme and based on a dynamic pulley group scheme are proposed. For the actual launch condition of the MAV, the motion state of the ascent under the schemes and the real Mars launch are compared, which proves the feasibility of the schemes. Among them, the improved pulley balancing scheme has the best gravity compensation effect, and the error between the average value and the required value is the smallest, only 1%.
