Purpose: To investigate the efficacy and safety of the novel orally active PI3Kδ inhibitor in relapsed and/or refractory patients with follicular lymphoma (FL) who had received at least two prior systemic treatments. Patients and Methods: Histologically confirmed relapsed and/or refractory patients with FL with disease progression after receiving second-line or greater systemic therapy were enrolled. Linperlisib was administered at 80 mg every day, orally in a 28-day cycle until disease progression or intolerable toxicity occurred. The primary outcome for the study was the objective response rate (ORR), with secondary outcomes including the duration of response (DOR), progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), disease control rate, and drug safety profile. Results: Of 114 screened relapsed and/or refractory patients with FL, 84 were enrolled in the full analysis set (FAS). The ORR of the 84 FAS patients was 79.8% [95% confidence interval (CI), 69.6–87.8, 67 patients], with 13 patients (15.5%) achieving a complete response and 54 patients (64.3%) with a partial response. The median DOR was 12.3 months (95% CI, 9.3–15.9). The median PFS was 13.4 months (95% CI, 11.1–16.7). The 12-month OS rate was 91.4% (95% CI, 82.7–95.8) and a median OS not reached by 42 months. The most frequent (>3%) treatment-related adverse events Grade ≥3 were infectious pneumonia (19.0%), neutropenia (15.5%), decreased lymphocyte count (4.8%), decreased leukocyte count (4.8%), increased lipase (3.6%), decreased platelet count (3.6%), hypertriglyceridemia (3.6%), and interstitial lung disease (3.6%). Conclusions: Linperlisib demonstrated compelling clinical activity and manageable tolerability for relapsed and/or refractory patients with FL who had received at least two prior systemic therapies.

Rosa roxburghii f. eseiosa Ku is a variety of Rosa roxburghii, with two known genotypes: Wuci 1 and Wuci 2. The lack of prickle on the peel of R. roxburghii f. eseiosa makes it easy to pick and process, but its fruit size is small. Therefore, we aim to induce polyploidy in order to obtain a larger fruit variety of R. roxburghii f. eseiosa. In this study, current-year stems of Wuci 1 and Wuci 2 were used as materials for polyploid induction, which was carried out through colchicine treatment coupled with tissue culture and rapid propagation technology. Impregnation and smearing methods were effectively used to produce polyploids. Using flow cytometry and a chromosome counting method, it was found that one autotetraploid of Wuci 1 (2n = 4x = 28) was obtained by the impregnation method before primary culture, with a variation rate of 1.11%. Meanwhile, seven Wuci 2 bud mutation tetraploids (2n = 4x = 28) were produced by smearing methods during the training seedling stage. When tissue-culture seedlings were treated with 20 mg/L colchicine for 15 days, the highest polyploidy rate was up to 60%. Morphological differences between different ploidys were observed. The side leaflet shape index, guard cell length, and stomatal length of the Wuci 1 tetraploid were significantly different from those of the Wuci 1 diploid. The terminal leaflet width, terminal leaflet shape index, side leaflet length, side leaflet width, guard cell length, guard cell width, stomatal length, and stomatal width of the Wuci 2 tetraploid were significantly different from those of the Wuci 2 diploid. Additionally, the leaf color of the Wuci 1 and Wuci 2 tetraploids changed from light to dark, with an initial decrease in chlorophyll content followed by an increase. In summary, this study established an effective method for inducing polyploids in R. roxburghii f. eseiosa, which could provide a foundation for the breeding and development of new genetic resources for R. roxburghii f. eseiosa and other R. roxburghii varieties in the future.

Repeated claims that a dwindling supply of potential caregivers is creating a crisis in care for the U.S. aging population have not been well-grounded in empirical research. Concerns about the supply of family care do not adequately recognize factors that may modify the availability and willingness of family and friends to provide care to older persons in need of assistance or the increasing heterogeneity of the older population. In this paper, we set forth a framework that places family caregiving in the context of older adults’ care needs, the alternatives available to them, and the outcomes of that care. We focus on care networks, rather than individuals, and discuss the demographic and social changes that may alter the formation of care networks in the future. Last, we identify research areas to prioritize in order to better support planning efforts to care for the aging U.S. population.

Diabetes is a metabolic disease that is affecting an ever-increasing number of people worldwide, resulting in increased burdens on healthcare systems and societies. Constant monitoring of blood glucose levels is required to prevent serious or even deadly complications. One major challenge of diabetes management is the simple and timely administration of insulin to facilitate consistent blood glucose regulation and reduce the incidence of hypoglycemia. With this research, we construct an insulin delivery system, the delivery system is comprised of phenylboronic acid based fluorescent probes, which is used as glucose responsive linkers, mesoporous silica nanoparticles providing an insulin reservoir, and zinc oxide nanoparticles used as gate keepers. The system with glucose sensitive responsive linker exhibits controlled release of insulin under high glucose concentrations, providing prolonged blood glucose regulation and no risks of hypoglycemia. Furthermore, the system is combined with a hyaluronic-acid based microneedle patch, which exhibit efficient skin penetration for transdermal delivery. With our system, the nanoparticles provide outstanding in vivo glucose regulation when administrated by subcutaneous injection or via transdermal microneedle patch. We anticipate that our biocompatible smart glucose responsive microneedle patch (SGRM patch) will facilitate the development of clinically useful systems.

OBJECTIVE: This study compared the relationship quality of U.S. midlife adults in dating, living apart together (LAT) relationships, cohabitation, and marriage. BACKGROUND: Unmarried partnerships are gaining ground in midlife but how these partnerships compare to each other and to marriage is unclear. From an incomplete institutionalization perspective, those in unmarried relationships, especially LAT relationships but also cohabitations, face challenges due to unclear relationship norms and expectations which may eventuate in poorer relationship quality than that of the married. Alternatively, cohabitation and, by extension, LAT relationships, offer flexibility and autonomy and thus may function as an alternative to marriage marked by comparable relationship quality. METHOD: Data were drawn from the 2013 Families and Relationships Survey, a nationally representative survey of U.S. adults. The analytic sample was composed of adults aged 50–65 in a partnership (N=2,166). Multivariable models compared the associations between relationship type (dating, LAT, cohabiting, and married) and relationship quality (happiness, support, commitment, disagreement, and instability). RESULTS: The incomplete institutionalization perspective was supported for LATs, who tended to report poorer relationship quality than marrieds. For cohabitors, this perspective received mixed support. Although cohabitors reported less happiness and commitment than marrieds, which aligned with the incomplete institutionalization perspective, the groups did not differ on relationship support, disagreement, or instability, supporting the cohabitation as an alternative to marriage perspective. Dating, LAT and cohabiting relationships were remarkably alike. CONCLUSION: This study has implications for understanding the shifting landscape of relationships in midlife which in turn may shape individual health and well-being.

Effect of erlotinib combined with cisplatin on tumor growth, interleukin-6 (IL-6) and interleukin-12 (IL-12) in mice with Lewis lung cancer (LLC) was investigated. Forty-four pure inbred SPF C57BL/6J mice were modeled for LLC and randomized into groups A, B, C and D (n=11 each group). Mice in group A were given normal saline, group B was given erlotinib, group C was given cisplatin injection and group D erlotinib combined with cisplatin. Tumor growth of the mice was observed and the tumor mass was measured. Serum IL-6 and IL-12 levels were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) 40 days later. At different time-points after medication, tumor volume in group D was significantly lower than that in groups A, B and C (P0.05). Tumor mass in groups B, C and D was significantly lower than that in group A (P0.05). Compared with groups B and C, mice in group D had significantly lower IL-6 level (P0.05). In conclusion, erlotinib combined with cisplatin can inhibit the tumor growth of mice with LLC, and inhibition of IL-6 level and upregulation of IL-12 level may be one of its therapeutic mechanisms.

Background This study sought to evaluate dental utilization among 3-,4-, and 5-year-old children in China and to use Andersen’s behavioural model to explore influencing factors, thereby providing a reference for future policy making. Methods This study is a cross-sectional study. Data of 40,305 children aged 3–5 years were extracted from the Fourth National Oral Health Survey, which was performed from August 2015 to December 2016. Patient data were collected using a questionnaire, which was answered by the child’s parents, and clinical data were collected during a clinical examination. Stratification and survey weighting were incorporated into the complex survey design. Descriptive statistics, bivariate correlations and hierarchical logistic regression results were then analysed to find the factors associated with oral health service utilization. Results The oral health service utilization prevalence during the prior 12 months were 9.5% (95%CI: 8.1–11.1%) among 3-year-old children, 12.1% (95%CI: 10.8–13.5%) among 4-year-old children, and 17.5% (95%CI: 15.6–19.4%) among 5-year-old children. “No dental diseases” (71.3%) and “dental disease was not severe” (12.4%) were the principal reasons why children had not attended a dental visit in the past 12 months. The children whose parents had a bachelor’s degree or higher (OR: 2.29, 95%CI: 1.97–2.67, p p p p p Conclusion The prevalence of dental service utilization was relatively low among preschool children. It is necessary to strengthen oral health education for parents and children, thereby improving oral health knowledge as well as attitude, and promoting dental utilization.

This study aimed to better characterize the clinicopathologic characteristics, outcomes, and prognostic factors of AITL in China.We retrospectively analyzed 312 patients with AITL enrolled between January 2011 and December 2020 from five institutions in China.The median age was 65 years, with 92.6% advanced stage, 59.7% elevated LDH, 46.1% anemia, and 44.0% hypergammaglobulinemia. The majority of patients (84.9%) received anthracycline-based regimens with or without etoposide, and only 6.1% underwent autologous stem cell transplantation following first remission. The 5-year OS and PFS estimates were 43.4% and 25.0% with no significant improvement of survival between patients treated during 2011-2015 and 2016-2020, respectively. Both the International Prognostic Index (IPI) and the prognostic index for PTCL, not otherwise specified (PIT), were predictive for OS. In multivariate analysis, age70 years, elevated LDH, and albumin level35 g/L were independent prognostic factors for OS. Combining these three factors, a novel prognostic model (the Chinese AITL score) was constructed, which stratified patients into low-, intermediate-, and high-risk groups, with 5-year OS rates of 69.0%, 41.5%, and 23.7%, respectively. This new model was successfully validated in an independent cohort.Patients with AITL were mainly treated with anthracycline-based regimens, and the outcomes were still unsatisfactory in China. Our novel prognostic model may improve our ability to identify patients at different risks for alternative therapies.

To investigate the imaging characteristics of sarcoidosis and Hodgkin's lymphoma based on mediastinal enlarged lymph node using spectral CT and evaluate whether the quantitative information can improve the differential diagnosis of these diseases. This retrospective study was approved by the institutional review board, and written informed consent was obtained from all patients. Overall, 21 patients with sarcoidosis and 39 patients with Hodgkin's lymphoma were examined with CT spectral imaging during the arterial phase (AP) and venous phase (VP). The CT values on 40 to 140 keV monochromatic images and iodine (water) concentrations of enlarged lymph nodes were obtained in AP and VP. Iodine concentrations (ICs) were normalized to the iodine concentration in the aorta. The differences in normalized iodine concentrations (NICs) and hounsfield units (HU) curve slop (λHU) were calculated. Anatomical distribution of mediastinal lymph nodes and morphologic features were also compared. Receiver operating characteristic curves were generated to help establish threshold values for the parameters required for the significant differentiation of sarcoidosis from lymphomas. The CT values on 40 to 100 keV monochromatic images in AP and 40 to 50 keV in VP were higher in sarcoidosis than those in Hodgkin's lymphoma, the differences were statistically significant (P .05); NICs during the AP and λHU during the AP (VP) in patients with sarcoidosis differed significantly from those in patients with Hodgkin's lymphoma. Receiver operating characteristic curves analysis showed that the monochromatic CT value on 40 keV in AP had the highest sensitivity (71.4%) and specificity (100%) in differentiating sarcoidosis from Hodgkin's lymphoma. The anatomic distribution, coalescence, calcification, compression, enhancement pattern and enhancement degree of the mediastinal enlarged lymph node differed significantly between the groups (P .05). The combination of monochromatic CT value, NICs and λHU had higher sensitivity and specificity than did those of conventional qualitative CT image analysis during the combined phases. CT spectral imaging has promising potential for the diagnostic differentiation of Hodgkin's lymphomas and sarcoidosis. The monochromatic CT value, iodine content and λHU could be valuable parameters for differentiating Hodgkin's lymphomas and sarcoidosis based on mediastinal enlarged lymph node.

EGFR and BRAF V600E mutations are both early driven and usually mutually exclusive. We report the case of a 59-year-old woman diagnosed with advanced lung adenocarcinoma harboring coexisting EGFR exon 18 G719A and BRAF V600E mutations. She experienced a long-term response to oral afatinib, with a progression-free survival rate of 33 months and an overall survival rate of 11 years. Lung adenocarcinoma with synchronous EGFR G719A and BRAF V600E mutations is rare and has not been previously reported. This case highlights the importance of an adequate response to afatinib and provides an optimal therapeutic option for such patients.

Medical consumable usage is ineluctable in treatment process. High consumable cost not only brings pressure to the patients and their families, but also reduces the performance of hospital operation management. Therefore, precise medical consumable usage management is very important to the hospital. Large amounts of data accumulated over the years in hospital provide a resource for pattern and rule discovery. A medical consumable usage control method based on Canopy_K-means and Weighted Association Rules Mining (WARM) is proposed in this paper. Firstly, Canopy algorithm is used to get rough clusters; Secondly, K-means algorithm is used to get accurate clusters; Thirdly, ARM and WARM are used to discover rules between disease and consumable among a cluster; In the Fourth, the consumable usage control method in daily requisition has been designed. Half-year data from an A-level hospital in Shanghai have been studied, the results show that WARM can help to find rules between disease and consumable, and the control method based on WARM is feasible to apply.

To explore the factors associated with utilization of oral health services among Chinese adults and older adults according to the Andersen Behavior Model.Data from the 4th National Oral Health Survey (2015-2016) in China were used. A total of 7206 people (3669 adults aged 35-44 years and 3537 older adults aged 65-74 years) were included in our analysis. Oral health service utilization in the past 12 months was the outcome variable. Explanatory variables were selected according to the Andersen Behavior Model. Descriptive statistics and bivariate associations (chi-square tests) were analysed, followed by hierarchical Poisson regression models, which were conducted to determine the factors associated with oral health service utilization.In total, 21.4% (95% CI: 19.4%-23.7%) of adults (35-44 years old) and 20.7% (95% CI: 18.6%-22.9%) of older adults (65-74 years old) utilized oral health services in the past 12 months. Nearly 80% of adults (78.7%, 95% CI: 74.0%-82.7%) and more than 90% of older adults (93.7%, 95% CI: 91.0%-95.6%) visited a dentist for treatment. Adults aged 35-44 years old who were female (IRR: 1.15, 95% CI: 1.00-1.33, P = .047), had good oral health knowledge and attitudes (IRR: 1.30, 95% CI: 1.06-1.59, P = .011), perceived their oral health status as fair (IRR:1.51, 95% CI:1.24-1.85, P .001) or poor/very poor (IRR:2.52, 95% CI:2.01-3.18, P .001) and had a decayed, missing and filled teeth (DMFT) index0 (IRR: 1.52, 95% CI: 1.11-2.09, P = .009) were more likely to report dental visits in the past 12 months. Older adults who utilized oral health services tended to be female (IRR: 1.32, 95% CI: 1.09-1.59, P = .004); to be covered by Urban Resident Basic Medical Insurance (URBMI) (IRR: 1.56, 95% CI: 1.18-2.05, P = .002), Urban Employee Basic Medical Insurance (UEBMI) (IRR: 1.69, 95% CI: 1.32-2.16, P .001) or government medical insurance (GMI) (IRR: 1.03, 95% CI:1.01-2.16, P = .044); to have a high education level (IRR: 1.37, 95% CI: 1.08-1.74, P = .010); to have an income level in the 2nd tertile (IRR: 1.44, 95% CI: 1.13-1.84, P = .003) or 3rd tertile (IRR:1.52, 95% CI:1.18-1.95, P = .001); and to perceive their oral health status as poor or very poor (IRR: 1.53, 95% CI: 1.21-1.95, P = .001).Sex and self-perceived oral health status were associated with oral health utilization among Chinese population. Additionally, for older adults, education level, household income and insurance coverage were determinants of dental service use. These findings can aid in creating more targeted policies to increase the use of dental services by Chinese adults.

Mesoporous silica particles have been extensively used to construct various drug delivery systems. An optimized design of pore size, surface functionalization and pore structure, is still needed for further application, especially for use as biomacromolecules carriers. Herein, one intelligent glucose-responsive insulin delivery system Insulin@ZnO-P@G-MSP was constructed based on mesoporous silica nanoparticles with large ordered mesopores (>5 nm) and small particle sizes (∼150 nm), combined with phenylboronic acids as glucose-responsive units and zinc oxide nanoparticles as the capping agents. The release characteristics of this system showed a positive correlation with the species and concentration of the saccharides and could be switched on and off by adjusting the glucose concentration. The stable release rate in the serum and good biocompatibility with liver cells illustrated the feasibility of this system in further biological applications. This work demonstrates an innovative approach to the development of a biomolecules delivery system by introducing mesoporous silica particles with large ordered mesopores and nanometer-scale particle sizes.

Objectives This study aimed to measure socioeconomic-related inequality and horizontal inequity in the use of oral health services and decompose this inequality among adults of different age groups in China. Methods In total, 10 973 adults (3669 aged 35-44 years, 3767 aged 55-64 years and 3537 aged 65-74 years) who participated in the 4th National Oral Health Survey (2015-2016) in China were included. Concentration curves and the Erreygers-corrected concentration index (EI) were employed to measure socioeconomic-related inequality in the use of oral health services. Then, inequity in this utilization was measured by the horizontal inequity index (HI). Furthermore, decomposition analyses were conducted for the three groups to explain the contributions of income level, need factors (ie self-assessed oral health and evaluated oral health status), other factors (ie sex, residential location, educational attainment level and type of basic insurance) and a residual term to overall inequality in oral health service utilization. Results The significant positive EI and HI values indicated that pro-rich inequality and inequity in oral health service utilization exist among Chinese adults. Income and type of basic medical insurance contributed the most to socioeconomic-related inequality in the use of oral health services among adults aged 55-64 and 65-74 years. However, the main driving factors of socioeconomic inequality among adults aged 35-44 years in dental care use included income, educational achievement, type of basic medical insurance and residential location. The need variables accounted for a very small proportion of overall socioeconomic-related inequality in oral health service use in all three groups. Conclusions Oral healthcare service utilization was disproportionately concentrated among better-off Chinese adults. The primary determinants of inequality in dental care use in different age groups provide information for policymakers to create more targeted policies to achieve equity in the oral healthcare system in China.

In this work, a novel bifunctional fluorescent sensor (FQ) was developed for simultaneous detection and removal of Ag+ in aqueous solutions by grafting a naphthalimide-based fluorescent probe onto the surface of the mesoporous silica nanoparticles. FQ exhibited good selectivity towards Ag+ in water samples, and showed 2.5-fold enhancement of fluorescence intensity with the addition of Ag+. Meanwhile, FQ showed a very good linearity at a low concentration of Ag+ with a detection limit of 7.2 × 10−6 M. In addition, FQ can also serve as an adsorbent for the removal of Ag+ in water samples with the maximal adsorption capacity of 14.8 mg g−1. FQ can be regenerated easily by modulating the pH value of the aqueous solution, and can be recycled at least eight times. All results demonstrate that FQ has potential applications for the detection and removal of Ag+ in aqueous samples.

Background Podocalyxin-like 1 (PODXL) was reported to be closely associated with the development of various cancers, yet its functional roles and molecular mechanisms remain vague. The aim of our study was to investigate the clinical significance, biological function and molecular mechanism of PODXL in gastric cancer (GC). Methods The level of PODXL in GC tissues was detected applying GC tissues microarray, fresh GC tissues and public database (Oncomine). The invasion, metastasis and tumorigenesis role of PODXL were performed in vitro and in vivo. The correlations between KLF4 and PODXL was determined in GC tissues microarray and fresh GC tissues, and the molecular regulatory mechanism between KLF4 and PODXL was explored in vitro. Results The high level of PODXL was detected in GC tissues with advanced T stage, lymph node metastasis, Union for International Cancer Control stage and poor differentiation. And Cox proportional hazards model revealed that PODXL can serve as an independent prognostic indicator for disease-free survival and overall survival of GC patients. Moreover, downregulation of PODXL could inhibit EMT and reduce invasion and metastasis in vitro as well as tumorigenesis in vivo. Additionally, our findings showed that PODXL may be a significant downstream target of KLF4. Conclusions KLF4/PODXL signaling pathway assumes an irreplaceable role in tumorigenesis, invasion and metastasis of human GC and PODXL serves as an independent prognostic indicator for GC patients. Background: ENKTL is a highly aggressive NHL related to Epstein-Barr virus, with a higher incidence in Asia. Patients with r/r-ENKTL have a poor prognosis after failing asparaginase based regimen, and there is lack of effective treatment. Anti-PD-1 antibody represented a favorable treatment for rr-ENKTL. ORIENT-4 trial demonstrated Sintilimab was effective and well tolerated in r/r-ENKTL. The efficacy of Chidamide, an oral HDACi was reported on rr-ENKTL(CHIPEL trial, 2017 ASH). Here we present preliminary results of Sintilimab plus Chidamide for r/r-ENKTL. Methods: This trial enrolled eligible patients with histologically confirmed r/r-ENKTL failing from asparaginase-based regimen; ECOG performance status ≤ 2; adequate organ function and bone marrow function; and at least one measurable or evaluable lesion. This study consisited of a Phase Ib (dose escalation) portion followed by a Phase II expansion portion. In the Phase Ib, a standard "3+3" design was utilized to identify the MTD, DLT and recommended Phase II dosage (RP2D) of Chidamide plus Sintilimab. In the phase II portion, patients received 6 cycles of Sintilimab (200 mg) plus Chidamide (RP2D) every 3 weeks. Patients with complete response (CR) or partial response (PR) received up to 1 year. The primary endpoint was objective response rate (ORR) assessed by investigators per RECIL 2017 criteria. Key secondary endpoints included TTR, DOR,PFS,OS and safety. Adverse events (AEs) were defined according to CTCAE 5.0. Pretreatment formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tumor samples were obtained. Samples were tested using Dako PD-L1 22C3. PD-L1 protein expression was determined using tumor proportion score (TPS) and combined positive score (CPS). CPS ≥1 was considered positive. All patients' blood samples were collected for ctDNA assessment before treatment in each of cycles. ctDNA samples were analyzed by capture-based NGS targeting 475 lymphoma- and cancer- relevant genes. This trial was registered at ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT 03820596) Results: From March 2019 to May 2020, 41 patients were screened and 37 eligible patients were enrolled from 5 institutions. Median age 48 years (range, 20-72), 27 (73.0%) male, 26 (70.3%) patients with Stage IV of disease at screening, 20 (54.1%) patients with PINK-E score ≥ 3 points, 16 (43.2%) patients received ≥ 2 lines of prior systemic therapy. In Phase Ib , no MTD or DLT events were observed, RP2D of chidamide was 30 mg twice a week. Of 36 response evaluable patients, 21 (58.3%) achieved response including 16 (44.4%) patients with CR and 5 (13.9%) with PR(Figure 1). The median time to initial response was 6.0 weeks (5.0-12.4w). The median DOR time was 9.2+ months (1.3 -14.5+m) (Figure 2). The median follow-up time was 7.3 (0.9-16.1) months. Estimated 1-year OS rate was 79.1%, 1-year PFS rate was 66.0%. 19 (51.3%) patients remained on treatment,18 (48.7%) patients had discontinued from study treatment (16 for PD, 1 for AEs, 1 for personal reasons). The OS and PFS of patients with CR/PR is significantly superior to patients with SD/PD. Estimated 1-year OS rate for CR/PR and SD/PD was 95.0% and 51.9% (P Conclusion: Sintilimab plus Chidamide showed manageable safety profile and yielded effective antitumor activity, durable response in patients with r/r-ENKTL for the first time. It is a promising therapeutic option for this population, especially for those with CPS≥30. Epigenetic strategies synergize with anti-PD-1 antibody maybe enhanced antitumor responses to r/r-ENKTL, further investigation is warranted. Disclosures No relevant conflicts of interest to declare.

Expression of miR-34c and miR-141 in serum of colon cancer patients and their association with clinicopathological features and diagnostic value for colon cancer were investigated. Bright and photostable fluorophores play a key role in the imaging of specific intracellular molecules. Here we report a facile approach to improve the brightness of naphthalimide fluorophores in water. We synthesized a series of nonplanar and rigid compounds (FM1, FM2, and FM3) by fusing a seven-membered heterocycle onto a naphthalimide skeleton. Compared with classic naphthalimide (FM0), these novel fluorophores exhibited much higher quantum yield values (Φ = 0.60–0.66), and higher molar extinction coefficients in aqueous solution, which elicited superior brightness to FM0. They also showed good photostability, pH-independence, and two-photon microscope (TPM) imaging ability. This new strategy of structural nonplanarity and rigidification provides an efficient way to improve the quantum efficiencies of traditional dyes.

Primary small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the paranasal sinuses is an extremely rare and distinctive tumor with aggressive clinical behavior. We report on a patient who had a small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the ethmoid sinus with invasion of the upper aspect of the right maxillary sinus and medial aspect of the right orbit. After 2 cycles of chemotherapy that were unsuccessful, he underwent radiotherapy with complete tumor remission. Local recurrence was not identified after 11 months of follow-up; however, distant metastasis developed 2 months after radiotherapy. The natural history, pathologic features, and choice of therapy for this rare neoplasm are discussed, along with a review of the published data.
