Natural light-harvesting (LH) systems can divide identical dyes into unequal aggregate states, thereby achieving intelligent "allocation of labor". From a synthetic point of view, the construction of such kinds of unequal and integrated systems without the help of proteinaceous scaffolding is challenging. Here, we show that four octatetrayne-bridged ortho-perylene diimide (PDI) dyads (POPs) self-assemble into a quadruple assembly (POP)4 both in solution and in the solid state. The two identical PDI units in each POP are compartmentalized into weakly coupled PDIs (P520) and closely stacked PDIs (P550) in (POP)4 . The two extreme pools of PDI chromophores were unambiguously confirmed by single-crystal X-ray crystallography and NMR spectroscopy. To interpret the formation of the discrete quadruple assembly, we also developed a two-step cooperative model. Quantum-chemical calculations indicate the existence of multiple couplings within and across P520 and P550, which can satisfactorily describe the photophysical properties of the unequal quadruple assembly. This finding is expected to help advance the rational design of dye stacks to emulate functions of natural LH systems.

Retinitis pigmentosa is a retinal disease characterized by photoreceptor degeneration. There is currently no effective treatment for retinitis pigmentosa. Although a mixture of lutein and other antioxidant agents has shown promising effects in protecting the retina from degeneration, the role of lutein alone remains unclear. In this study, we administered intragastric lutein to Pde6brd10 model mice, which display degeneration of retinal photoreceptors, on postnatal days 17 (P17) to P25, when rod apoptosis reaches peak. Lutein at the optimal protective dose of 200 mg/kg promoted the survival of photoreceptors compared with vehicle control. Lutein increased rhodopsin expression in rod cells and opsin expression in cone cells, in line with an increased survival rate of photoreceptors. Functionally, lutein improved visual behavior, visual acuity, and retinal electroretinogram responses in Pde6brd10 mice. Mechanistically, lutein reduced the expression of glial fibrillary acidic protein in Müller glial cells. The results of this study confirm the ability of lutein to postpone photoreceptor degeneration by reducing reactive gliosis of Müller cells in the retina and exerting anti-inflammatory effects. BACKGROUND: The main mechanism of keloid formation is that keloid fibroblasts (KFs) apoptosis is inhibited, leading to excessive proliferation. Transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) is a key signal molecule in the process of regulating cell fibrosis. This paper discusses the effect of adipose-derived stem cell exosomes (ADSCs-EXO) on the proliferation and apoptosis of KFS and its possible mechanism, in order to provide reference for the clinical intervention of hypertrophic scar. METHODS: ADSCs were isolated and cultured from human adipose tissue, the supernatant was collected, and the exosomes secreted by ADSCs-EXO were extracted by ultracentrifugation. At the same time, KFs were cultured from human keloid tissue to P3 generation, and then divided into four groups: control group, experimental group A, experimental group B and experimental group C. KFs were then cultured with four concentrations of ADSCs-EXO (0, 1, 10, and 100 µg/mL, respectively). After 24 hours, cells in each group were taken to detect the following: proliferation of cells in each group using the cell counting Kit 8 (CCK-8) method, cell migration ability via the Transwell test, cell apoptosis by flow cytometry, collagen synthesis using the hydroxyproline method, messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) expression of fibrosis-related genes in each group by real-time fluorescent polymerase chain amplification, and the expression of fibrosis-related proteins in the cells of each group by western blotting. RESULTS: Compared with the control group, the proliferation rate, migration rate, and collagen synthesis levels in the three experimental groups decreased with the increase of ADSCs-EXO concentration, while the apoptosis rate in the three experimental groups increased with the increase of ADSCs-EXO concentration, and the differences were statistically significant (P

Air-stable helical radical anions represent a class of promising multifunctional molecules due to their intriguing magnetic and chiroptical properties. Twisting of the PDI core engendered by steric repulsion between the encumbered bay -substituents leads to the occurrence of atrop-enantiomers ( P- and M- enantiomers). However, despite significant distortion in these bay -substituted and ortho -fused PDI systems, a fast interconversion process between the P- and M- enantiomers prevents the isolation of enantiopure derivatives for further applications. As the activation parameters for conformational chiral systems are influenced by the size of the substituents, we speculated that annulation of four indole/benzothiophene rings to perylene skeleton with heteroatom at ortho -position should lead to conformationally stable double- [7] heterohelicene 1a (X = NH) and 1b (X = S) with overlapping terminal aromatic rings. The rigidity of the π-skeleton can be further enhanced via the hydrogen bonds and chalcogen bonds. The incorporation of heteroatoms in helicenes would offer the possibility to tune their bandgap. Based on our recent work, 1a and 1b were synthesized readily, and enantiomers could be completely separated by using chiral HPLC. Their opto-physical properties were studied by absorption and CD spectroscopy. The introduction of four fused rings induced a further bathochromic shift to NIR. More importantly, 1a and 1b still shows high g abs factor even above a wavelength of 700 nm, which enables its application in advanced chiroptical devices. In addition, Ortho -π-extended PDI double-[7] hetero-helicenes 1a and 1b could be transformed to the corresponding radical anions with addition of fluoride anion in tetrahydrofuran solution. These novel radical anions exhibited broad UV-vis absorption spectra up to 1300 nm and clear CD bands in the NIR region. EPR experiments further confirmed the formation of paramagnetic PDI.−. Interesting, the radial anions could survive in the solution in air for hours. This work can provide a new platform for indepth study on anion-π interactions, and therefore can facilitate further investigation on their applications.

Conventionally, z-direction modulation of two-dimensional covalent organic frameworks (2D-COFs) is difficult to achieve because they rely on spontaneous π-π interactions to form 3D architectures. Herein, we report a facile construction of a novel intercalated covalent organic framework (Intercalated-COF) by synchronizing operations of supramolecular donor-acceptor (D-A) interactions (A unit: 2,5,8,11-tetra(p-formylphenyl)-perylene diimide (PDI) 1; D unit: perylene 3, as intercalator) in the vertical directions, with polymerizations (by only reacting 1 with p-phenylenediamine 2) in the lateral directions. In this Intercalated-COF, the PDI-based covalent 2D layers are uniformly separated by perylene guest layers. This supramolecular strategy opens the possibility for z-direction modulation of 2D-COFs through "intercalating" various guest molecules and thus may contribute to the exploration of advanced applications of these porous and crystalline frameworks.

To explore the prevalence and related factors influencing diabetes stigma among Chinese young and middle-aged patients with type 2 diabetes.A cross-sectional, quantitative study was conducted through questionnaires.A total of 453 young and middle-aged patients with type 2 diabetes were recruited. Questionnaire survey was conducted with convenience sampling from September 2019 to December 2020. This included demographic questionnaire, Type 2 Diabetes Stigma Assessment Scale (DSAS-2) and Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC). The STROBE checklist was applied as the reporting guideline for this study.The scores of diabetes stigma and resilience of patients were 48.18 ± 14.52 and 66.02 ± 7.18, respectively. Diabetes stigma was negatively correlated with resilience, the correlation coefficient was -0.581. The results showed that the complications, diabetes year, monthly income and insulin treatment are important factors affecting stigma. In addition, it is resilience that was a protective factor of diabetes stigma, explaining 27.2% of the variance in diabetes stigma.

Microvascular tissue reconstruction is a well-established, commonly used technique for a wide variety of the tissue defects. However, flap failure is associated with an additional hospital stay, medical cost burden, and mental stress. Therefore, understanding of the risk factors associated with this event is of utmost importance.To develop machine learning-based predictive models for flap failure to identify the potential factors and screen out high-risk patients.Using the data set of 946 consecutive patients, who underwent microvascular tissue reconstruction of free flap reconstruction for head and neck, breast, back, and extremity, we established three machine learning models including random forest classifier, support vector machine, and gradient boosting. Model performances were evaluated by the indicators such as area under the curve of receiver operating characteristic curve, accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score. A multivariable regression analysis was performed for the most critical variables in the random forest model.Post-surgery, the flap failure event occurred in 34 patients (3.6%). The machine learning models based on various preoperative and intraoperative variables were successfully developed. Among them, the random forest classifier reached the best performance in receiver operating characteristic curve, with an area under the curve score of 0.770 in the test set. The top 10 variables in the random forest were age, body mass index, ischemia time, smoking, diabetes, experience, prior chemotherapy, hypertension, insulin, and obesity. Interestingly, only age, body mass index, and ischemic time were statistically associated with the outcomes.Machine learning-based algorithms, especially the random forest classifier, were very important in categorizing patients at high risk of flap failure. The occurrence of flap failure was a multifactor-driven event and was identified with numerous factors that warrant further investigation. Importantly, the successful application of machine learning models may help the clinician in decision-making, understanding the underlying pathologic mechanisms of the disease, and improving the long-term outcome of patients.

Largely π-extended rylene diimide-fused thienoacenes, a new family of fully fused electron donor–acceptor (D–A) molecules, have been readily synthesized by a novel trisulfur radical anion (S3˙−)-triggered stitching thienannulation strategy. The ladder-type fused thiophene cores are constructed in a stitching manner through multiple carbon–sulfur bond formation between acetylenic rylene dyes and S3˙−. A detailed mechanistic study of these stitching thienannulations unveiled the multiple reactivities of S3˙−. Physical properties of the newly formed D–A, A–D–A, and D–A–D type thienoacenes have also been investigated, which revealed their precisely controllable electronic properties., A facile stitching thienannulation between acetylenic rylene dyes and S3˙− for rapid synthesis of largely π-extended thienoacenes was developed.

An efficient synthesis of nitrogen-containing heterocycles via Pd-catalyzed tandem allylic alkylation and dearomatization reactions was reported. In this reaction design, heteroarenes such as pyridines, pyrazines, and quinolines serve as bis-nucleophiles by installing a benzoyl group at the C2 benzylic position. With but-2-ene-1,4-diyl dimethyl dicarbonate as the bis-electrophile, the tandem Pd-catalyzed intermolecular allylic alkylation/allylic dearomatization reaction of benzoylmethyl-substituted heteroarenes has been developed. 2,3-Dihydroindolizine, 6,7-dihydropyrrolo[1,2- a]pyrazine, and 1,2-dihydropyrrolo[1,2- a]quinolin derivatives were obtained in moderate to good yields.

Asymmetric construction of quinuclidine derivatives has been realized by an iridium-catalyzed allylic dearomatization reaction. The catalytic system, derived from [Ir(cod)Cl] 2 and the Feringa ligand, tolerates a broad range of substrates. A large array of quinuclidine derivatives can be obtained under mild conditions in good to excellent yields (68%–96%), diastereoselectivity (up to >20/1 dr), and enantioselectivity (up to >99% ee). These products feature versatile functional group diversity and can undergo diverse transformations. A model that accounts for the origin of the stereoselectivity has been proposed based on density functional theory (DFT) calculations.

Background Blastocystis is a common protist that can infect domestic and wild animals worldwide. Yak (Bos grunniens), an ancient species which can survive in alpine regions, has supplied necessities to local residents in plateau areas for generations. However, the infections with Blastocystis in yaks has been ignored for a long time. In the present study, the infections and genotypes of Blastocystis spp. in domestic yaks from Qinghai Province (northwestern China) were explored. Results Of 1027 faecal samples collected from yaks in seven regions of Qinghai Province, northwestern China, the total prevalence of Blastocystis was 27.07% (278/1027) targeting the small subunit ribosome rRNA (SSU rRNA) gene. This protist was detected in yaks within each examined age group, geographical origin and season. Significant difference in prevalence was found in yaks from different geographical origins. The highest prevalence (48.94%) was observed in animals from Haixi county. Sequence analysis revealed three animal-specific subtypes (ST10, ST12 and ST14) of Blastocystis spp. in these yaks, with ST10 being the predominant subtype widely distributed in all investigated regions, seasons and age groups. Interestingly, this is the first report about subtype ST12 infecting yaks. Conclusions To our knowledge, this is the first systematic report on Blastocystis prevalence in yaks from China, and the findings provide fundamental data for establishing effective control measures for this protist in yaks as well as other animals in China.

The synthesis, structures, and properties of [4]cyclonaphthodithiophene diimides ([4]C-NDTIs) are described. NDTIs as important n-type building blocks were catenated in the α-positions of thiophene rings via an unusual electrochemical-oxidation-promoted macrocyclization route. The thiophene-thiophene junction in [4]C-NDTIs results in an ideal pillar shape. This interesting topology, along with appealing electronic and optical properties inherited from the NDTI units, endows the [4]C-NDTIs with both near-infrared (NIR) light absorptions, strong excitonic coupling, and tight encapsulation of C60 . Stable orientations of the NDTI units in the nanopillars lead to stable inherent chirality, which enables detailed circular dichroism studies on the impact of isomeric structures on π-conjugation. Remarkably, the [4]C-NDTIs maintain the strong π-π stacking abilities of NDTI units and thus adopt two-dimensional (2D) lattice arrays at the molecular level. These nanopillar molecules have great potential to mimic natural photosynthetic systems for the development of multifunctional organic materials.

Enhanced electrochemiluminescence (ECL) signals of CdS quantum dots capped with 3-mercaptopropionic acid (MPA@CdS QDs) have been observed after using N-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-N′-ethylcarbodiimide (EDC) to activate the carboxyl groups. The generated ECL signals are strong enough that their images can be captured using a Huawei mobile phone. A possible mechanism for the generation of enhanced ECL signals has been proposed. Then, a sandwich immunosensor platform for detecting Zika virus (ZIKV) was fabricated with silica microspheres as the carrier and MPA@CdS QDs as ECL signal labels. Due to the dual signal amplification of EDC activation and microsphere enrichment, good linearity from 1.0 fg mL−1 to 1.0 ng mL−1 was exhibited by the QD-based ECL immunosensor for ZIKV detection. The detection limit was 0.3 fg mL−1.

Luteolin is neuroprotective for retinal ganglion cells and retinal pigment epithelial cells after oxidative injury, whereby it can inhibit microglial neurotoxicity. Therefore, luteolin holds the potential to be useful for treatment of retinal diseases. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether luteolin exhibits neuroprotective effects on rod cells in rd10 mice, a slow photoreceptor-degenerative model of retinitis pigmentosa. Luteolin (100 mg/kg) intraperitoneally injected daily from postnatal day 14 (P14) to P25 significantly enhanced the visual performance and retinal light responses of rd10 mice at P25. Moreover, it increased the survival of photoreceptors and improved retinal structure. Mechanistically, luteolin treatment attenuated increases in reactive oxygen species, photoreceptor apoptosis, and reactive gliosis; increased mRNA levels of anti-inflammatory cytokines while lowering that of pro-inflammatory and chemoattractant cytokines; and lowered the ratio of phospho-JNK/JNK. Application of the JNK inhibitor SP600125 exerted a similar protective effect to luteolin, suggesting that luteolin delays photoreceptor degeneration and functional deterioration in rd10 mice through regulation of retinal oxidation and inflammation by inhibiting the JNK pathway. Therefore, luteolin may be useful as a supplementary treatment for retinitis pigmentosa. Enclaves constitute a key tracer guide to assess the magmatic source and evolutionary processes of Cu–Mo–Au porphyry-type deposits. In this study, four types of enclaves were identified in the Baogutu reduced Cu porphyry-type deposit, West Junggar, Northwest China: gabbroic enclaves (Type 1) and schist enclaves (Type 2) are proposed to be restites and immiscible enclaves, respectively, which confirm the contributions of mantle components and sediments in the reduced Cu porphyry-type deposit. Fine-grained dioritic enclaves (Type 3) have a similar mineral composition and texture to the dioritic host rocks, which are probably autoliths derived from inhomogeneous fractional crystallization. Tuffaceous siltstone enclaves (Type 4) with a zircon U-Pb age of 339.2 ± 7.5 Ma (MSWD = 0.55), the formation age of which is in agreement with the host early Carboniferous rock unit, indicate that these tuffaceous siltstone enclaves might have formed in a contamination process. Moreover, the schist enclaves, together with the newly discovered 2691.3 ± 12.3 Ma inherited zircon in tuffaceous siltstone enclaves, further indicate that the Baogutu arc could be a continental arc.

Despite great challenges, the development of new molecular structures with multiple and even conflicting characteristics are eagerly pursued for exploring advanced applications. To develop high-performance chiral organic semiconducting molecules, a distorted π-system is required for strong coupling with circularly polarized light (CPL), whereas planar π-stacking systems are necessary for high charge-carrier mobility. To address this dilemma, in this work, we introduce a skeleton merging approach through distortion of a perylene diimide (PDI) core with four fused heteroaromatics to form an ortho-π-extended PDI double-[7]heterohelicene. PDI double helicene inherits a high dissymmetry factor from the helicene skeleton, and the extended π-planar system concurrently maintains a high level of charge transport properties. In addition, ortho-π-extension of the PDI skeleton brings about near-infrared (NIR) light absorption and ambipolar charge transport abilities, endowing the corresponding organic phototransistors with high photoresponsivity of 450 and 120 mA W−1 in p- and n-type modes respectively, along with a high external quantum efficiency (89%) under NIR light irradiations. Remarkably, these multiple characteristics enable high-performance broadband CPL detections up to NIR spectral region with chiral organic semiconductors., In organic semiconducting molecules materials, distorted π-systems enable strong coupling with circular polarized light while planar π-stacking systems are necessary for high charge-carrier mobility. Here, the authors address this dilemma by introducing a skeleton merging approach through distortion of a perylene diimide core with four fused heteroaromatics to form a π-extended double helicene.

Glaucoma is a chronic, progressive optic neuropathy characterized by the loss of peripheral vision first and then central vision. Clinically, normal tension glaucoma is considered a special subtype of glaucoma, in which the patient’s intraocular pressure is within the normal range, but the patient experiences typical glaucomatous changes. However, increasing evidence has challenged the traditional pathophysiological view of normal tension glaucoma, which is based only on intraocular pressure, and breakthroughs in central nervous system imaging may now greatly increase our knowledge about the mechanisms underlying normal tension glaucoma. In this article, we review the latest progress in understanding the pathogenesis of normal tension glaucoma and in developing imaging techniques to detect it, to strengthen the appreciation for the connection between normal tension glaucoma and the brain.

A range of ortho-π-extended PDI derivatives are straightforwardly synthesized in good yields through highly regioselective heteroannulations of ortho-alkynyl-substituted PDI derivatives with sulfur, selenium, or nitrogen nucleophiles. Successful synthesis of pyrrole-fused rylene dyes by using primary amines as nucleophiles indicates the great synthetic potential of this facile annulation route. Further opto-electrochemical study of these novel thiophene-, selenophene-, and pyrrole-fused PDIs suggests that effective π-conjugation enlargement combined with distortion of the perylene core renders these PDI derivatives tunable and desirable physical properties.

Despite extensive research on transition metal-catalyzed Fujiwara–Moritani type C–H olefinations, the alkenes used in these transformations are still mainly limited to active acrylate esters and styrenes. Selective aryl C–H olefination with electron-rich alkenes is recognized as a challenging issue. We herein report that simple and readily accessible electron-deficient [CpRh(III)] and [CpCF3Rh(III)] (CpCF3 = C5Me4CF3) complexes are powerful catalysts for dehydrogenative arylation of electron-rich alkenes, including vinyl acetates, enamides, and vinyl ethers. Employing an electron-withdrawing Cp or CpCF3 ligand instead of the privileged Cp* (C5Me5) ligand not only can facilitate the electrophilic aryl C–H rhodation but also can lower the olefin insertion barrier. Both electron-withdrawing and electron-donating directing groups such as -CONR2 and -NHAc could be employed in these reactions, which provides convenient routes toward a series styryl acetates, N-acetylindoles, and aryl methyl ketones.

Giardia duodenalis (syn. Giardia lamblia, Giardia intestinalis) is an important zoonotic parasite that parasitizes the gastro-intestines of humans and animals, with diarrhea as the most common clinical symptom. The goat has been indicated as one of the most important reservoirs of G. duodenalis for humans. In the present study, we investigated the prevalence and genetic diversity of G. duodenalis in goats in Shaanxi province, northwestern China. A total of 1311 faecal specimens were examined, and the overall prevalence was 7.1% (93/1311). Although all the meat, cashmere and dairy goats were positive for infection, the highest prevalence was found in cashmere goats (10.2%), followed by dairy (9.4%) and meat goats (2.0%). Negative correlation between age and prevalence was also observed, and the highest prevalence was detected in 0-2-month goats. Genetic analysis showed the presence of three assemblages, including two zoonotic (A and B) and one animal-adapted assemblage E, with E as the prevalent assemblage found in all breeds of positive goats. The zoonotic assemblage A was found in Guanzhong dairy and Shanbei cashmere goats, but B was only detected in Boar goats. Additionally, mixed assemblages E and A were also identified in two cashmere goats. Multi-locus genotyping (MLST) using the gene loci of the triosephosphate isomerase (tpi), b-giardin (bg) and glutamate dehydrogenase (gdh) identified four novel multi-locus genotypes (MLGs), including two assemblage E MLGs and two assemblage A MLGs. These results suggested that Boar, Guanzhong dairy and Shanbei cashmere goats in Shaanxi province would be potential reservoirs for human infections in this area, and this study also provided basic data for controlling G. duodenalis infection in goats as well as other hosts.

Background Dyskinesia is a troublesome complication of long-term dopaminergic medications in Parkinson's disease (PD) patients. Many factors are reported to be associated with dyskinesia in PD. Objective To investigate the association between sleep quality and dyskinesia in patients with PD. Methods Four hundred twenty-five patients with PD were enrolled in this study. Demographic information was collected. Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) and Hoehn and Yahr (H-Y) stage scale were also performed. Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) were applied to evaluate daytime sleepiness and overall nighttime sleep quality, respectively, in PD patients. Results Patients with dyskinesia tended to have a longer duration of disease, higher daily levodopa-equivalent dose (LED), H-Y stage, UPDRS II and PSQI score, and a higher percentage of levodopa treatment than those without dyskinesia. After adjusting for age, sex, age at onset of PD, disease duration, UPDRS I, UPDRS II, UPDRS III, cigarette smoking, use of different antiparkinsonian drugs, phenotype, daily LED, and restless leg syndrome (RLS), PSQI score was still associated with dyskinesia, with corresponding ORs 1.111 (95% CI, 1.004–1.229) as a continuous variable, and 2.469 (95% CI, 1.051–5.800) as a categorical variable, respectively. Further analysis of PSQI components showed that subjective sleep quality and sleep latency were associated with dyskinesia in PD patients. Conclusions Our data showed that poor nighttime sleep is positively associated with dyskinesia in PD patients. Attention to the management of nighttime sleep quality may be beneficial to dyskinesia in patients with PD.

Temporary self-construal (independent vs. interdependent) priming can modulate the neural response to the reward for an individual. Our previous event-related potential (ERP) studies have indicated that people experience the rewards for a friend less strongly than they experience the same amount rewards for themselves. However, an issue remaining unclear is whether the ERP responses to rewards for a friend vary according to the way in which the self is construed. In the present study, we manipulated participants' self-construal (independent vs. interdependent) and found that independent self-construal priming resulted in a greater feedback-related negativity (FRN) in response to outcome feedback for oneself than for a friend during a monetary gambling task. In contrast, interdependent self-construal priming resulted in a comparable FRN in response to outcome feedback for oneself and for a friend. The P3 amplitude was insensitive to the self-construal manipulation. Our findings suggest that interdependent priming may result in comparable motivation elicited by rewards for participants themselves and for their friends. This study provides novel evidence that the neural response to rewards for friend varies according to the way in which the self is construed.

Background: Rapid eye movement (REM) sleep behavior disorder (RBD) and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) are the most common sleep disorders in Parkinson’s disease (PD). The aim of this study was to identify whether RBD could alleviate OSA severity in PD patients and its effect on cognitive impairment. Methods: From February 2014 to May 2017, we recruited 174 PD patients from the Second Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University, all of whom underwent polysomnography (PSG). We collected clinical data, PSG results, and compared information between patients with and without RBD or OSA by analysis of covariance. We also investigated the effect of these sleep disorders on cognitive impairment using linear regression. Results: We grouped participants as follows: PD only (n = 53), PD + OSA (n = 29), PD + RBD (n = 61), and PD + RBD + OSA (n = 31). Minimum oxygen saturation (SaO2) during whole sleep and in REM sleep was higher in PD + RBD + OSA patients than that in PD + OSA patients. PD + RBD patients had worse Mini-Mental Status Examination and Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) scores than those in the PD group (P < 0.001), especially in visuospatial/executive, attention, and memory functions. The PD + OSA group performed worse than the PD group in the delayed recall domain. After adjusting for age, sex, body mass index, education, disease severity, and other sleep disorders, MoCA was negatively associated with OSA (β = −0.736, P = 0.043) and RBD (β = −2.575, P < 0.001). The severity of RBD (tonic/phasic electromyography activity) and OSA (apnea-hypopnea index/oxygen desaturation index/minimum SaO2) were also associated with MoCA. The adjusted β values of RBD-related parameters were higher than that for OSA. Conclusions: We found that RBD alleviated OSA severity; however, RBD and OSA together exacerbated PD cognitive impairment. Further studies are needed to evaluate whether OSA treatment can improve cognition in PD. Vinyl acetate was employed as a cheap and convenient vinyl source in an Rh(III)-catalyzed C2-vinylation of indoles, which provides an efficient pathway toward a series of (E)-1,2-bis(2-indolyl)ethenes. Preliminary mechanism studies suggested that N-(2-pyridyl)-2-vinylindoles 2 and rhodacycle 4 were formed as key intermediates during the reaction process. The highly selective bisindolylation of vinyl acetate might be ascribed to the higher reactivity of vinylindoles 2 compared with vinyl acetate in a C–H olefination of N-(2-pyridyl)indoles.

Recently, two-dimensional (2D) in-plane anisotropic materials, as represented by black phosphorene, have attracted growing attention due to their unusual anisotropic physical properties. With an aim to broaden the scope of anisotropic materials from inorganics to organics, we herein report the first facile synthesis of a range of 2D in-plane aniso-COFs through a solvent modulated orthogonal strategy.

Summary Stereoselective construction of highly functionalized heterocyclic molecules is an ongoing concern for the chemical community. Among the various strategies developed with this goal, catalytic asymmetric dearomatization, an attractive method for constucting cyclic molecules with multiple stereocenters from readily available aromatic compounds, has received extensive attention in recent years. Here, we report a highly stereoselective construction of tetrahydrofurobenzofurans and tetrahydrofurobenzothiophenes via palladium-catalyzed dearomative [3 + 2] cycloaddition of nitrobenzofurans and nitrobenzothiophenes, respectively. Good to excellent yields (63%–92%), diastereoselectivity (13/1 → >20/1 dr), and enantioselectivity (75%–95% ee) were obtained, leading to products with vicinal stereogenic carbon centers. The reaction features wide substrate scope and diverse transformations of the products.
