Ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) is a floating platform that generates electricity from seawater heat. The cold water pipe (CWP) used in OTEC has a length of 1,000 m and a diameter of 10 m, making it susceptible to bending loads from ocean currents. To find suitable geometry and material for the CWP, the finite element method was used to model the real-world geometry. In the D/t variation, lower ratios (increased thickness) result in higher critical moments, maximum stress, strain, and displacement. D/t 50 was chosen for the CWP. In the L/D variation, the critical moment’s impact on L/D ratio was minimal, while reducing L/D (shorter pipe) increased strain, and larger L/D geometries had higher displacements. L/D 10 was selected as it balanced critical moments and reduced the number of stiffeners needed. For diameter size variation, larger diameters increased critical moment and strain, but smaller diameters (larger L/D ratios) also showed high strain due to necking at two points. A diameter of 12 m was chosen for its exceptionally high critical moment. Steel was selected as the suitable material due to its higher critical moment and maximum stress, despite its higher weight and lower maximum strain than composites. Capital shape imperfections had a minimal effect on the CWP’s structure as they were localized.

Pitting corrosion is the most common, dangerous, and destructive corrosion type in marine and offshore structures. This type of corrosion can reduce the strength of the ship plate, so investigating it using several numerical grounding scenarios is needed to determine the significant degradation of the strength of the structural plate. In this study, a finite element study was used to evaluate the influence of pitting corrosion location on the strength of the bottom plate ship in grounding simulation. This study simulated 14 scenarios using different pitting positions on the bottom plate. Finite element using explicit dynamic simulation in LS Dyna software was employed to evaluate the strength of the bottom plate on the ship. The output parameters, such as reaction force and plate deformation, were assessed to compare the grounding simulation results. The simulation indicates that the location of pitting corrosion will affect stress concentration, crack initiation, reaction force, and penetrating position when the crack nucleates. The result shows the critical position of the pit, which is located near the stress concentration ring (nearly 100 mm from the center of the plates) in the plain plates.

The application of hollow fiber membranes is one of the excellent processes to treat oily wastewater and wetland water. Treating oily wastewater and wetland water is a significant challenge and reported expensive. These wastes generally come from due the expansion of massive industries and human activities these days. This review discusses the critical ways of membrane hollow fiber application in treating oily wastewater as well as wetland water. It is also reported in literature that there is mostly organic contaminant accommodated in oily wastewater and wetland water. Due to that, the application of hollow fiber is the best way as a removal organic contaminant in oily wastewater as well as wetland water. Apart from that, the conventional and advanced methods are also well explained within this review followed by detail treatments, application, and performance of this hollow fiber membrane application. To achieve the best completed outcome of pollutants removal, several applications relate to other processes before contacting to hollow fiber membranes. The integration between conventional and advanced membrane technology in oily wastewater and wetland treatment is also well explained. The important factors in the fabrication and application of hollow fiber membrane depend on membrane materials and filtration processes. It means that the selection between membrane materials and final processes to choose are depending on the urgency, source of pollutants, and intended use. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of this study was to identify the correlates of depressive symptoms and the prevalence of depression, distress, and demoralization among patients with cancer in Taiwan in relation to their sociodemographics. A cross-sectional study design with convenience sampling was used to recruit 191 consecutive patients with cancer from the Cancer Center of a teaching hospital in northern Taiwan. Multiple linear regression was applied to analyze the determinants of depressive symptoms. The prevalence rates of depression (including suspected cases), distress, and demoralization were 17.8%, 36.1%, and 32.5%, respectively. The regression model explained 42.2% of the total variance, with significant predictors including marital status, life dependence, comorbidity, demoralization, and distress. The results demonstrated that higher levels of distress and demoralization were associated with more depressive symptoms. Demoralization and distress played vital roles in moderating depressive symptoms among patients with cancer. Nursing interventions should integrate appropriate mental health services, such as alleviating distress and demoralization, to prevent the occurrence of depression in patients with cancer. Land registration is an important program in asset legalization with the vast land resources owned by Indonesia. The reality is that there are 48 million certificated lands out of an estimated 126 million certificates throughout Indonesia, so the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) made a breakthrough through the Complete Systematic Land Registration (PTSL) program. The grouping mechanism of the PTSL program is divided into four clusters, namely K-1, K-2, K-3, and K-4. Land parcels included in K-4 have problems, namely that they have been registered but not mapped/mapped incorrectly, so the idea of modeling the K-4 typology is needed for accelerating the improvement in land data quality (KW). The research location is in Bandung Regency, which is included in the top five land offices with the highest number of K-4 in West Java Province. This research method uses a mixed method, namely quantitative with a Slovin approach for the identification and clustering of K-4 typology and descriptive qualitative for justification of typology modeling in multiple aspects. The results of K-4 typology modeling were 128 clusters based on seven types of data criteria and obtained 4 clusters that matched the data sample, namely T-1, T-43, T-63, and T-128. The four clusters were justified against the K-4 concept in the Ministry of ATR/BPN, the FFP-LA concept, and the PESTLE framework. Dissemination of K-4 typology modeling is a breakthrough that can be implemented by the Ministry of ATR/BPN and its staff in various regions and the role of multi-concepts in this research can be an input for improving the K-4 concept that has been in effect so far.
