Abstract Pathogenic changes in gut microbial composition precede the onset of HIV-1 infection in men who have sex with men (MSM). This process is associated with increased levels of systemic inflammatory biomarkers and risk for AIDS development. Using mediation analysis framework, in this report we link the effects of unprotected receptive intercourse among MSM prior to primary HIV-1 infection to higher levels of proinflammatory cytokines sCD14 and sCD163 in plasma and a significant decrease in the abundance of A. muciniphila, B. caccae, B. fragilis, B. uniformis, Bacteroides spp., Butyricimonas spp., and Odoribacter spp., and a potential increase in the abundance of Dehalobacterium spp. and Methanobrevibacter spp. in stools of MSM with the highest number of sexual partners. These differences in microbiota, together with a reduction in the pairwise correlations among commensal and short-chain fatty acid-producing bacteria with a number of sexual partners, support an increase in gut dysbiosis with the number of sexual partners. These results demonstrate the interconnectedness of sexual behavior, immune response, and microbiota composition, notably among MSM participating in high-risk sexual behaviors.

The engineering design and construction of active interfaces represents a promising approach amidst numerous initiatives aimed at augmenting catalytic activity. Herein, we present a novel approach to incorporate interconnected pores within bulk single crystals for the synthesis of macroscopic porous single-crystalline rutile titanium oxide (R-TiO2). The porous single crystal (PSC) R-TiO2 couples a nanocrystalline framework as the solid phase with pores as the fluid phase within its structure, providing unique advantages in localized structure construction and in the field of catalysis. We successfully construct well-defined Ni cluster/TiO2 active interfaces by directly confining Ni clusters on the continuous lattice surface of PSC R-TiO2. We confirm that the lattice oxygen connected to the Ni clusters exhibits exceptional activation capability at temperatures close to room temperature compared to the pure phase PSC R-TiO2 monoliths. The PSC Ni/TiO2 catalyst demonstrates complete CO oxidation and stable catalytic performance during continuous operation in air at ~80 °C for 200 h.

Background: Intracerebral hemorrhages (ICH) and perihematomal edema (PHE) are respective imaging markers of primary and secondary brain injury in hemorrhagic stroke. In this study, we explored the potential added value of PHE radiomic features for prognostication in ICH patients. Methods: Using a multicentric trial cohort of acute supratentorial ICH (n = 852) patients, we extracted radiomic features from ICH and PHE lesions on admission non-contrast head CTs. We trained and tested combinations of different machine learning classifiers and feature selection methods for prediction of poor outcome—defined by 4-to-6 modified Rankin Scale scores at 3-month follow-up—using five different input strategies: (a) ICH radiomics, (b) ICH and PHE radiomics, (c) admission clinical predictors of poor outcomes, (d) ICH radiomics and clinical variables, and (e) ICH and PHE radiomics with clinical variables. Models were trained on 500 patients, tested, and compared in 352 using the receiver operating characteristics Area Under the Curve (AUC), Integrated Discrimination Index (IDI), and Net Reclassification Index (NRI). Results: Comparing the best performing models in the independent test cohort, both IDI and NRI demonstrated better individual-level risk assessment by addition of PHE radiomics as input to ICH radiomics (both p < 0.001), but with insignificant improvement in outcome prediction (AUC of 0.74 versus 0.71, p = 0.157). The addition of ICH and PHE radiomics to clinical variables also improved IDI and NRI risk-classification (both p < 0.001), but with a insignificant increase in AUC of 0.85 versus 0.83 (p = 0.118), respectively. All machine learning models had greater or equal accuracy in outcome prediction compared to the widely used ICH score. Conclusions: The addition of PHE radiomics to hemorrhage lesion radiomics, as well as radiomics to clinical risk factors, can improve individual-level risk assessment, albeit with an insignificant increase in prognostic accuracy. Machine learning models offer quantitative and immediate risk stratification—on par with or more accurate than the ICH score—which can potentially guide patients’ selection for interventions such as hematoma evacuation.

Objective·To establish a multifactorial discriminative model for predicting the degree of infiltration in patients with non-small cell lung adenocarcinoma based on clinically accessible laboratory indicators, such as tumor markers, coagulation function indicators, routine blood count indicators, and biochemical indicators.Methods·A retrospective study was conducted on 202 patients with lung adenocarcinoma admitted to Shanghai Chest Hospital in 2022. Multifactorial Logistic regression analysis was applied to screen independent factors that influenced the predictive infiltration degree of lung adenocarcinoma and to establish a regression model. The development of electrochromic (EC) materials has paved the way for a wide range of devices, such as smart windows, color displays, optical filters, wearable camouflages, among others. However, the advancement of electrochromism faces a significant hurdle due to its poor stability and limited color options. This lack of stability is primarily attributed to the substantial alteration in the dielectric properties of EC materials during cycling. Consequently, the design of advanced plasmonic materials is a key strategy to achieve a stable EC device. In this review, we provide an overview of the current state-of-the-art designs of plasmonic-based EC materials and devices. We discuss their working principles, techniques for structure/morphology engineering, doping methods, and crystal phase design. Furthermore, we explore the integration of plasmonic materials with other EC materials to create advanced EC devices. Finally, we outline the challenges that need to be addressed and present an outlook on the development of high-performance EC devices.

Ultra high pressure common rail system can realize adjustable injection rate by controlling the relationship between fuel injection and pressurization timing, and then affect the fuel injection characteristics of diesel engine. In order to ascertain the effect law and its formation mechanism of the fuel injection and pressurization pulse width on the fuel injection characteristics of ultra high pressure common rail system, on the basis of introducing the mathematical model of the system, the simulation model of ultra high pressure common rail system was established, and the accuracy of the model was verified by performance experiment, the effect of fuel injection and pressurization pulse width on the fuel injection characteristics of the system under different common rail pressure were analyzed. The results show that with the increase of fuel injection pulse width, the shape of fuel injection rate curve is similar to saddle shape and the proportion of large fuel injection rate range in the whole injection process increases gradually. At the same time, the fuel injection opening delay remains unchanged, but the fuel injection closing delay increases significantly when the fuel injection pulse width is small (0.6~1 ms), while it remains basically unchanged when the fuel injection pulse width is large (1~1.4 ms). With the increase of pressurization pulse width, the shape of fuel injection rate curve is similar to saddle shape and remains unchanged under the condition of small injection pulse width, while the fuel injection rate curve shape may appear similar to the "inverted saddle-shaped" under the condition of large injection pulse width, this is due to the rapid decrease of pressurization pressure caused by the closing of the solenoid valve control signal in the pressure-amplifier device before the end of fuel injection.

Abstract Background The oral cavity is the gateway to the bacteria community in the lung. Disruption of the symbiotic balance of the oral microbiota has been associated with respiratory diseases. However, little is known about the relationship between oral bacteria and respiratory outcomes in the general population. We aimed to describe the associations between oral bacteria, lung function, and lung inflammation in a community-based population. Methods Oral (gingival) samples were collected concurrently with spirometry tests in 477 adults (47% males, median age 28 years) from the RHINESSA study in Bergen, Norway. Bacterial DNA from the 16S rRNA gene from gingival fluid were sequenced by Illumina®MiSeq. Lung function was measured using spirometry and measurement of fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) were performed to examine airway inflammation. Differential abundance analysis was performed using ANCOM-BC, adjusting for weight, education, and smoking. Abstract Background Lipid A is the primary immunostimulatory part of the lipopolysaccharide (LPS) molecule. The inflammatory response of LPS varies and depends upon the number of acyl chains and phosphate groups in lipid A which is specific for a bacterial species or strain. Traditional LPS quantification assays cannot distinguish between the acylation degree of lipid A molecules, and therefore little is known about how bacteria with different inflammation-inducing potencies affect fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO). We aimed to explore the association between pro-inflammatory hexa- and less inflammatory penta-acylated LPS-producing oral bacteria and FeNO as a marker of airway inflammation. Methods We used data from a population-based adult cohort from Norway (n = 477), a study center of the RHINESSA multi-center generation study. We applied statistical methods on the bacterial community- (prediction with MiRKAT) and genus-level (differential abundance analysis with ANCOM-BC) to investigate the association between the oral microbiota composition and FeNO. Results We found the overall composition to be significantly associated with increasing FeNO levels independent of covariate adjustment, and abundances of 27 bacterial genera to differ in individuals with high FeNO vs. low FeNO levels. Hexa- and penta-acylated LPS producers made up 2.4% and 40.8% of the oral bacterial genera, respectively. The Bray–Curtis dissimilarity within hexa- and penta-acylated LPS-producing oral bacteria was associated with increasing FeNO levels independent of covariate adjustment. A few single penta-acylated LPS producers were more abundant in individuals with low FeNO vs. high FeNO, while hexa-acylated LPS producers were found not to be enriched. Conclusions In a population-based adult cohort, FeNO was observed to be associated with the overall oral bacterial community composition. The effect of hexa- and penta-acylated LPS-producing oral bacteria was overall significant when focusing on Bray–Curtis dissimilarity within each of the two communities and FeNO levels, but only penta-acylated LPS producers appeared to be reduced or absent in individuals with high FeNO. It is likely that the pro-inflammatory effect of hexa-acylated LPS producers is counteracted by the dominance of the more abundant penta-acylated LPS producers in this population-based adult cohort involving mainly healthy individuals.

ObjectiveTo investigate the effects of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation （rTMS） on the efficacy and cognitive function of adolescents with depression.MethodsA total of sixty adolescent depression patients who met the diagnostic criteria of the International Classification of Diseases， tenth edition （ICD-10） and were admitted to the psychological outpatient clinic of the Affiliated Hospital of North China University of Technology from September 2021 to March 2022 were selected for the study， and the random number table method was used to divide the study group （escitalopram oxalate combined with rTMS treatment） and a control group （escitalopram oxalate combined with rTMS pseudo-stimulation treatment） of 30 cases each， and both groups were treated for 4 weeks. Before treatment and at 1， 2， 3 and 4 weeks of treatment， patients' depressive symptoms were assessed using the scores and subtraction rates of the Hamilton Depression Scale-24 item （HAMD-24）， and before treatment and after 4 weeks of treatment， cognitive function was assessed using the Motion Screening Task （MOT）， Rule Switch Task （RST） and Delayed Matching-to-Sample （DMS） task of the Zhiyun Neuropsychological Automated Test System assessment. ABSTRACT The composition of the vaginal microbiota is heavily influenced by pregnancy and may factor into pregnancy complications, including spontaneous preterm birth. However, results among studies have been inconsistent due, in part, to variation in sample sizes and ethnicity. Thus, an association between the vaginal microbiota and preterm labor continues to be debated. Yet, before assessing associations between the composition of the vaginal microbiota and preterm labor, a robust and in-depth characterization of the vaginal microbiota throughout pregnancy in the specific study population under investigation is required. Here, we report a large longitudinal study (n = 474 women, 1,862 vaginal samples) of a predominantly African-American cohort—a population that experiences a relatively high rate of pregnancy complications—evaluating associations between individual identity, gestational age, and other maternal characteristics with the composition of the vaginal microbiota throughout gestation resulting in term delivery. The principal factors influencing the composition of the vaginal microbiota in pregnancy are individual identity and gestational age at sampling. Other factors are maternal age, parity, obesity, and self-reported Cannabis use. The general pattern across gestation is for the vaginal microbiota to remain or transition to a state of Lactobacillus dominance. This pattern can be modified by maternal parity and obesity. Regardless, network analyses reveal dynamic associations among specific bacterial taxa within the vaginal ecosystem, which shift throughout the course of pregnancy. This study provides a robust foundational understanding of the vaginal microbiota in pregnancy and sets the stage for further investigation of this microbiota in obstetrical disease. IMPORTANCE There is debate regarding links between the vaginal microbiota and pregnancy complications, especially spontaneous preterm birth. Inconsistencies in results among studies are likely due to differences in sample sizes and cohort ethnicity. Ethnicity is a complicating factor because, although all bacterial taxa commonly inhabiting the vagina are present among all ethnicities, the frequencies of these taxa vary among ethnicities. Therefore, an in-depth characterization of the vaginal microbiota throughout pregnancy in the specific study population under investigation is required prior to evaluating associations between the vaginal microbiota and obstetrical disease. This initial investigation is a large longitudinal study of the vaginal microbiota throughout gestation resulting in a term delivery in a predominantly African-American cohort, a population that experiences disproportionally negative maternal-fetal health outcomes. It establishes the magnitude of associations between maternal characteristics, such as age, parity, body mass index, and self-reported Cannabis use, on the vaginal microbiota in pregnancy.

Botulinum toxin type A (BTXA) previously protected endothelial cells in free skin flaps from ischemia/reperfusion injury by inducing autophagy. Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress-autophagy activation may have a role in BTXA-antagonized ischemia/reperfusion damage in human dermal microvascular endothelial cells (HDMECs), however, this has yet to be proven. HDMECs were pretreated with BTXA at various concentrations for 12 h before being subjected to hypoxia and reoxygenation (H/R). Cell Count Kit 8 (CCK8) and Western blot (WB) data showed that H/R treatment significantly increased the expression of ER stress (GRP78, CHOP) and autophagy (LC3II/I, Beclin-1) proteins. The optimal BTXA pretreatment concentration was 1.6 U/mL, which resulted in the highest levels of cell survival and expression of ER stress and autophagy. Following pretreatment with 1.6 U/mL BTXA and the addition of the ER stress inducer Thapsigargin (Tg), the ER stress inhibitor 4-phenylbutyrate (4-PBA), and the inhibitor of autophagy Bafilomycin A1 (Baf A1), respectively, HDMECs were then subjected to H/R treatment. Cell survival and the percentage of ethynyldeoxyuridine-labeled cells in the BTXA pretreatment groups were reduced by the addition of Tg, 4-PBA, and Baf A1. While the expression of GRP78, CHOP, and LC3 was upregulated by Tg and Baf A1, it was downregulated by 4-PBA. The findings showed that ER stress produced by BTXA pretreatment triggers protective autophagy and protects HDMECs from H/R damage. There were no cytoprotective effects from either excessive activation or reduction of ER stress. Our results are consistent with the notion that autophagy and moderate ER stress are critical for cellular longevity and, consequently, functional integrity and may represent a potential therapeutic target.

Abstract Background Previous research has found a link between sleep quality and psychological distress. However, the underlying mechanisms of this connection have still not been well explored. The aim of this study was to examine the roles of activities of daily living (ADL), physical activity, and perceived social support in the link between sleep quality and psychological distress among older adults. Methods Three thousand two hundred fifty valid individuals (aged 60 years or above) participated in face-to-face questionnaire-based surveys. Older individuals were assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, Barthel Index, International Physical Activity Questionnaire, Perceived Social Support Scale, and Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21. The PROCESS macro developed by Hayes was used to conduct moderated mediation analysis. Results In older adults, sleep quality had a substantial direct influence on psychological distress. ADL mediated the association between sleep quality and psychological distress. Physical activity significantly reduced ADL’s mediating influence on the relationship between sleep quality and psychological distress. Furthermore, perceived social support moderated the direct relationship between sleep quality and psychological distress, as well as the second half of the mediating effect of the ADL. Moreover, physical activity and perceived social support were preventive factors that might successfully mitigate the detrimental effects of poor sleep quality on ADL and psychological distress. Conclusions The findings contribute to existing understanding by clarifying the fundamental mechanisms that link sleep quality and psychological distress. These results may provide a valuable reference to the Chinese government for improving mental health in older individuals.

ObjectivesLeveraging a large population-level morphologic, microstructural, and functional neuroimaging dataset, we aimed to elucidate the underlying neurobiology of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children. In addition, we evaluated the applicability of machine learning classifiers to predict ADHD diagnosis based on imaging and clinical information.MethodsFrom the Adolescents Behavior Cognitive Development (ABCD) database, we included 1,798 children with ADHD diagnosis and 6,007 without ADHD. In multivariate logistic regression adjusted for age and sex, we examined the association of ADHD with different neuroimaging metrics. The neuroimaging metrics included fractional anisotropy (FA), neurite density (ND), mean-(MD), radial-(RD), and axial diffusivity (AD) of white matter (WM) tracts, cortical region thickness and surface areas from T1-MPRAGE series, and functional network connectivity correlations from resting-state fMRI.ResultsChildren with ADHD showed markers of pervasive reduced microstructural integrity in white matter (WM) with diminished neural density and fiber-tracks volumes – most notable in the frontal and parietal lobes. In addition, ADHD diagnosis was associated with reduced cortical volume and surface area, especially in the temporal and frontal regions. In functional MRI studies, ADHD children had reduced connectivity among default-mode network and the central and dorsal attention networks, which are implicated in concentration and attention function. The best performing combination of feature selection and machine learning classifier could achieve a receiver operating characteristics area under curve of 0.613 (95% confidence interval = 0.580–0.645) to predict ADHD diagnosis in independent validation, using a combination of multimodal imaging metrics and clinical variables.ConclusionOur study highlights the neurobiological implication of frontal lobe cortex and associate WM tracts in pathogenesis of childhood ADHD. We also demonstrated possible potentials and limitations of machine learning models to assist with ADHD diagnosis in a general population cohort based on multimodal neuroimaging metrics.

Recent studies suggest hypoxia can promote adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) to attenuate hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R)-induced damage to human dermal microvascular endothelial cells (HDMECs). Extracellular vesicles (EVs), isolated from ADSCs, play an-important role in the fields of regenerative medicine. Here, we aimed to investigate the effect of EVs isolated from hypoxia-pretreated ADSCs (ADSC-EVs[H]) on HDMECs to attenuate ischemia/reperfusion injury of free skin flaps. First, we characterized EVs isolated from normoxia-cultured ADSCs (ADSC-EVs[N]) and ADSC-EVs(H). Experimental data indicated that EVs isolated from ADSCs consisted of lipid-bilayer vesicles that exhibited positive expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and marker proteins CD9, CD63 and CD81, and the mean particle size of EVs in the hypoxia-pretreated ADSCs (ADSC[H]) group was smaller (74.17 nm) than in the normoxic-cultured ADSCs (ADSC[N]) group (93.87 nm). Hypoxic pretreatment increased the number of EVs. Later, we favorably constructed the co-culture model of EVs isolated from ADSCs (ADSC-EVs) and H/R-induced HDMECs. Cell counting kit-8, Ethynyldeoxyuridine assay, western blotting and immunofluorescence staining showed that ADSC-EVs(H) promoted the survival of HDMECs and increased LC3 level. Apoptosis, reactive oxygen species (ROS) and JC-1 mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) assays revealed that ADSC-EVs(H) reduced the apoptosis rate and ROS accumulation and increased MMP level in HDMECs, indicating that ADSC-EVs(H) effectively attenuated H/R-induced damage in HDMECs through autophagy activation and the-inhibition of apoptosis and oxidative stress. This study confirmed that ADSC-EVs(H) could effectively regulate the proliferation, apoptosis, oxidative stress, and autophagy expression of H/R-induced HDMECs in vitro, and therefore the transplantation of ADSC-EVs(H) may provide novel insights for the transplantation of free skin flaps.

Abstract This study aimed to explore the epidemiological characteristics of breast cancer and establish an Exponential Smoothing (ETS) and Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) models to predict the development of incidence in Shantou. This study has a large sample size, strong representativeness, and wide‐ranging and comprehensive medical insurance information, which can fill the gaps in basic epidemiological research on breast cancer in Shantou. Successful completion of this study is a helpful tool to understand the epidemiology of Guangdong Province and Southern China. This study also provides data and scientific references for the government and future research on breast cancer prevention and control. This retrospective study was conducted to describe the epidemic intensity, epidemic distribution, and epidemic trend of breast cancer in Shantou, Guangdong Province, from 2006 to 2017, gathered from the Shantou's Medical Security Bureau covers the whole districts of Shantou. ETS and ARIMA models were used to describe the regional distribution, time distribution, and population distribution of breast cancer in Shantou. Moreover, based on the ARIMA model and ETS model, the incidence trend of breast cancer was predicted during 2018–2022. This study included 5,681 breast cancer patients, majority of whom were aged 50–59 years. The male‐to‐female ratio of the breast cancer patients was about 1:107 (the same ratio of the insured population was 1:1). Female patients accounted for 98.61% of the total insured population. The incidence and mortality rates of female breast cancer were 16.42/100,000 and 0.66/100,000, respectively. Based on the ARIMA model or ARIMA and ETS model, a gradually decreasing trend in the incidence of breast cancer is expected in the future. Comparing the performances of the ARIMA model and ETS model, ARIMA (4, 0, 1) (0, 1, 0) model had a lower the root mean squared error and the mean absolute percentage error than ETS (M, N) model. This population‐based retrospective study showed that the high‐risk age for the age‐specific incidence of female breast cancer was 50–55 years. It is recommended that healthcare administration should strengthen program awareness and education regarding breast cancer prevention and control. It is also possible that feasibility of extrapolating the current methodology to other future studies or broader populations in which the cancer registry data are not available.

RNA-Puzzles is a collective endeavor dedicated to the advancement and improvement of RNA three-dimensional structure prediction. With agreement from structural biologists, RNA structures are predicted by modeling groups before publication of the experimental structures. We report a large-scale set of predictions by 18 groups for 23 RNA-Puzzles: 4 RNA elements, 2 Aptamers, 4 Viral elements, 5 Ribozymes and 8 Riboswitches. We describe automatic assessment protocols for comparisons between prediction and experiment. Our analyses reveal some critical steps to be overcome to achieve good accuracy in modeling RNA structures: identification of helix-forming pairs and of non-Watson-Crick modules, correct coaxial stacking between helices and avoidance of entanglements. Three of the top four modeling groups in this round also ranked among the top four in the CASP15 contest.

Differential abundance analysis of microbiome data continues to be challenging due to data complexity. The authors propose a method which estimates the unknown sampling fractions and corrects the bias induced by their differences among samples.

Carbon nanotube (CNT) can work as excellent saturable absorber (SA) due to its advantages of fast recovery, low saturation intensity, polarization insensitivity, deep modulation depth, broad operation bandwidth, outstanding environmental stability, and affordable fabrication. Its successful application as SA has promoted the development of scientific research and practical application of mode-locked fiber lasers. Besides, mode-locked fiber laser constitutes an ideal platform for investigating soliton dynamics which exhibit profound nonlinear optical dynamics and excitation ubiquitous in many fields. Up to now, a variety of soliton dynamics have been observed. Among these researches, CNT-SA is a key component that suppresses the environmental perturbation and optimizes the laser system to reveal the true highly stochastic and non-repetitive unstable phenomena of the initial self-starting lasing process. This review is intended to provide an up-to-date introduction to the development of CNT-SA based ultrafast fiber lasers, with emphasis on recent progress in real-time buildup dynamics of solitons in CNT-SA mode-locked fiber lasers. It is anticipated that study of dynamics of solitons can not only further reveal the physical nature of solitons, but also optimize the performance of ultrafast fiber lasers and eventually expand their applications in different fields.

Antimicrobial chemicals are used as preservatives in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and food to prevent the growth of bacteria and fungi in the products. Unintentional exposure in humans to such chemicals is well documented, but whether they also interfere with human oral microbiome composition is largely unexplored. In this study, we explored whether the oral bacterial composition is affected by exposure to antibacterial and environmental chemicals. Gingival fluid, urine, and interview data were collected from 477 adults (18–47 years) from the RHINESSA study in Bergen, Norway. Urine biomarkers of triclosan, triclocarban, parabens, benzophenone-3, bisphenols, and 2,4- and 2,5-dichlorophenols (DCPs) were quantified (by mass spectrometry). Microbiome analysis was based on 16S amplicon sequencing. Diversity and differential abundance analyses were performed to identify how microbial communities may change when comparing groups of different chemical exposure. The objectives of this research are to study: (i) the history and development of knowledge of Yiwulv Mountain Manchu paper-cutting art, and (ii) the process of designing and developing digital media for learning about cultural heritage. This research used qualitative research methods. By studying documents and collecting field data by surveys, interviews, observations, group discussions, and workshops. The data was elicited from a group of 40 participants. The analysis was based on the objectives and the results were presented in a descriptive analytical manner. The results are as follows: (i) The art of paper-cutting is related to history and culture. There is a unique cultural identity of the Manchus on Yiwulv Mountain. The way of conveying knowledge is told orally. Currently, there is a problem due to the age of paper-cutting artists and lack of inheritance. Therefore, it is necessary to find ways to protect them as well as transfer them to youth and those who are interested. (ii) The art of paper-cutting is applied with 3D animation technology to inherit and learn the art of Yiwulv Mountain Manchu paper-cutting. The teaching materials created can be explained in detail from the perspective and content. The design combines virtual tour technology to make it interesting. Learners study through digital media and computer systems, which makes it convenient to access information.

Introduction: Multimorbidity has become a key issue in the health care sector globally, and it can also lead to psychological distress in older adults. This study aimed to assess the impact of multimorbidity on depression, anxiety, and stress symptoms and identify whether there is a sex difference in these associations.Methods: A cross-sectional study using a multistage random sampling method was conducted among 3,266 older adults in China. Multiple linear regression models were used to estimate the independent associations between multimorbidity and depression, anxiety, and stress symptoms. Furthermore, interaction analysis was employed to investigate the interaction effect of multimorbidity and sex on depression, anxiety, and stress symptoms.Results: A total of 3,250 participants aged 60 years and older were included in this study. Our findings suggest that multimorbidity is strongly positively associated with depression, anxiety, and stress symptoms. In addition, the positive relations between multimorbidity and depression, anxiety, and stress symptoms are stronger for older female than male adults.Conclusion: Old adults with multimorbidity are more likely have depression, anxiety, and stress symptoms. This study offers new insight for the mental health from the perspective of multimorbidity among older people, implies that encouraging the accessibility of treatment for multimorbidity in older people with different sex may be effective in promoting mental health in China.

Objectives: Social participation may prevent depressive symptoms in older adults. But research to date ignores gender differences in the associations between social participation and depressive symptoms. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of different type and frequency of social participation on depressive symptoms, as well as if there is a gender difference in these correlations among older Chinese adults.Methods: Data was obtained from adults aged 60 years or above in the 2018 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Survey, a nationally representative sample of older adults in China. Depressive symptoms were measured using CESD-10. Social participation included participation in social groups, hobby groups, sports groups, and community-related organizations. The independent relationships between each type of social participation and depressive symptoms were assessed using multiple linear regression models.Results: A total of 6,287 older adults were included in this analysis, of whom 49.69% were women. Participating in social groups, sports groups, and community-related organizations with a frequency of one or more per week was all linked to better mental health. Furthermore, our findings suggest that the positive relationship between participation in social groups, hobby groups, and community-related organizations and depressive symptoms is more flexible for older men than for women.Conclusions: Older individuals who participate in social participation at a high frequency may have better mental health. The findings provide novel insights into mental health from the standpoint of social participation in older adults. Gender differences in the associations between social participation and depressive symptoms need to be considered when formulating interventions to prevent depression.

Abstract Background Cancer vaccines are designed to promote systemic antitumor immunity and tumor eradication. Cancer vaccination may be more efficacious in combination with additional interventions that may build on or amplify their effects. Methods Based on our previous clinical and in vitro studies, we designed an antigen-engineered DC vaccine trial to promote a polyclonal CD8+ and CD4+ T cell response against three shared melanoma antigens. The 35 vaccine recipients were then randomized to receive one month of high-dose IFNα or observation. Results The resulting clinical outcomes were 2 partial responses, 8 stable disease and 14 progressive disease among patients with measurable disease using RECIST 1.1, and, of 11 surgically treated patients with no evidence of disease (NED), 4 remain NED at a median follow-up of 3 years. The majority of vaccinated patients showed an increase in vaccine antigen-specific CD8+ and CD4+ T cell responses. The addition of IFNα did not appear to improve immune or clinical responses in this trial. Examination of the DC vaccine profiles showed that IL-12p70 secretion did not correlate with immune or clinical responses. In depth immune biomarker studies support the importance of circulating Treg and MDSC for development of antigen-specific T cell responses, and of circulating CD8+ and CD4+ T cell subsets in clinical responses. Conclusions DC vaccines are a safe and reliable platform for promoting antitumor immunity. This combination with one month of high dose IFNα did not improve outcomes. Immune biomarker analysis in the blood identified several predictive and prognostic biomarkers for further analysis, including MDSC. Trial registration NCT01622933.

Introduction: Multimorbidity has become one of the key issues in the public health sector. This study aimed to explore the urban–rural differences in patterns and associated factors of multimorbidity in China and to provide scientific reference for the development of health management strategies to reduce health inequality between urban and rural areas.Methods: A cross-sectional study, which used a multi-stage random sampling method, was conducted effectively among 3,250 participants in the Shanxi province of China. The chi-square test was used to compare the prevalence of chronic diseases among older adults with different demographic characteristics. The Apriori algorithm and multinomial logistic regression were used to explore the patterns and associated factors of multimorbidity among older adults, respectively.Results: The findings showed that 30.3% of older adults reported multimorbidity, with significantly higher proportions in rural areas. Among urban older adults, 10 binary chronic disease combinations with strong association strength were obtained. In addition, 11 binary chronic disease combinations and three ternary chronic disease combinations with strong association strength were obtained among rural older adults. In rural and urban areas, there is a large gap in patterns and factors associated with multimorbidity.Conclusions: Multimorbidity was prevalent among older adults, which patterns mainly consisted of two or three chronic diseases. The patterns and associated factors of multimorbidity varied from urban to rural regions. Expanding the study of urban–rural differences in multimorbidity will help the country formulate more reasonable public health policies to maximize the benefits of medical services for all.

Proinflammatory and immunomodulatory events that drive development of K-ras mutant lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) are poorly understood. Here they develop a lung epithelial specific K-ras mutant/Stat3 conditional knockout mouse model and show a sex-specific role for epithelial Stat3 signaling in K-ras-mutant LUAD.

Abstract Background Neoadjuvant immunotherapy utilizing novel combinations has the potential to transform the standard of care for locally/regionally advanced melanoma. We hypothesized that neoadjuvant ipilimumab in combination with high dose IFNα2b (HDI) is safe and associated with durable pathologic complete responses (pCR). Methods Patients with locally/regionally advanced melanoma were randomized to ipilimumab 3 or 10 mg/kg × 4 doses bracketing definitive surgery, then every 12 weeks × 4. HDI was given concurrently. We evaluated the safety and efficacy of the combination with ipilimumab 3 or 10 mg/kg. The impact on T-cell fraction and clonality were investigated in tumor and blood. Results Thirty patients (age 37–76), 15 each at 3 and 10 mg/kg, 18 male and 12 female were treated. Considering immune related adverse events (irAEs) of interest, more grade 3/4 irAEs were seen with ipilimumab 10 mg/kg versus 3 mg/kg (p = 0.042). Among 28 evaluable patients, 11 relapsed, of whom 5 died. Median follow-up for 17 patients who have not relapsed was 32 months. The radiologic preoperative response rate was 36% (95% CI, 21–54); 4 patients at ipilimumab 3 mg/kg and 6 at 10 mg/kg and 2 (at 10 mg/kg) later relapsed. The pCR was 32% (95% CI, 18–51); 5 patients at ipilimumab 3 mg/kg and 4 at 10 mg/kg and one (at 3 mg/kg) had a late relapse. In patients with pCR, T-cell fraction was significantly higher when measured in primary melanoma tumors (p = 0.033). Higher tumor T-cell clonality in primary tumor and more so following neoadjuvant therapy was significantly associated with improved relapse free survival. Conclusions Neoadjuvant ipilimumab-HDI was relatively safe and exhibited promising tumor response rates with an associated measurable impact on T-cell fraction and clonality. Most pCRs were durable supporting the value of pCR as a primary endpoint in neoadjuvant immunotherapy trials. Trial registration ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT01608594. Registered 31 May 2012.

Abstract Background We previously reported early on-treatment significant modulation in circulating regulatory T cell (Treg), myeloid derived suppressor cells (MDSC) and antigen-specific type I CD4+ and CD8+ T cells that correlated with clinical outcome in regionally advanced melanoma patients treated with neoadjuvant ipilimumab. Here, we investigated the long term immunologic impact of CTLA4 blockade. Methods Patients were treated with ipilimumab given at 10 mg/kg IV every 3 weeks for 2 doses bracketing surgery. Blood specimens were collected at baseline and during treatment for up to 9 months. We tested immune responses at 3, 6, and 9 months utilizing multicolor flow cytometry. We compared frequencies of circulating Treg and MDSC on-study to baseline levels, as well as frequencies of CD4+ and CD8+ T cells specific to shared tumor-associated antigens (Gp-100, MART-1, NY-ESO-1). Results Levels of Treg significantly increased when measured at 6 weeks following ipilimumab but returned to baseline by 3 months, with no significant difference in Treg levels between relapsed and relapse-free groups at 3, 6 or 9 months. However, lower baseline levels of circulating Treg (CD4+CD25hi+CD39+) were significantly associated with better relapse free survival (RFS) (p = 0.04). Levels of circulating monocytic HLA-DR+/loCD14+ MDSC were lower at baseline in the relapse-free group and further decreased at 6 weeks, though the differences did not reach statistical significance including measurements at 3, 6 or 9 months. We detected evidence of type I (interferon-γ producing), activated (CD69+) CD4+ and CD8+ antigen-specific T cell immunity against cancer-testis (NY-ESO-1) as well as melanocytic lineage (MART-1, gp100) antigens in the absence of therapeutic vaccination. These responses were significantly boosted at 6 weeks and persisted at 3, 6 and 9 months following the initiation of ipilimumab. Conclusions Lower Treg levels at baseline are significantly associated with RFS and increased Treg frequency after CTLA4 blockade was only transient. Lower MDSC was also associated with RFS and MDSC levels were further decreased after ipilimumab. Tumor specific effector immune responses are boosted with CTLA4 blockade and tend to be durable. Rubidium is a very active and highly dispersed rare alkali metal, which has a wide range of applications in space technology, electronics, bioengineering, and materials science. To date, no single mineral with the industrial exploitation of rubidium has been found. Rubidium is mainly associated with cesium lithium mica, pollucite, carnallite, potash, seawater, and salt lake brine. In recent years, a large amount of rubidium muscovite has been found in China, and they have become an important resource for extracting rubidium. If comprehensively explored, they will alleviate the shortage of rubidium resources in China. Therefore, it is imperative to develop a simple and highly efficient process for rubidium muscovite exploration. Here, a chlorination roasting process was proposed to recover rubidium from the distinctive rubidium-containing muscovite. According to the differential thermal analysis and thermogravimetric analysis (DTA-TG) curves of chlorinated roasting, the temperature of the chlorination reaction using calcium chloride is about 100℃ lower than that of sodium chloride, and the chlorination is more efficient with CaCl2 than NaCl. Subsequently, the impact of chlorination temperature on the rubidium extraction rate was investigated. The results show that the rubidium can be chlorinated only when the chlorination temperature reaches 800℃, whereby the rubidium extraction rate is 96.71%. The rubidium chlorination rate largely increases with, especially after 800℃; this shows that the high temperature is beneficial to the chlorination roasting of rubidium. Finally, the kinetics results of the chlorination roasting of the kaolin ore show that the extraction rate of rubidium is controlled by the chemical reaction, and the activation energy in the roasting temperature range is 42.22 kJ·mol-1.

As an innovative ventilation mode, attached ventilation has been widely used in different types of buildings due to its high ventilation efficiency and energy saving. At present, the commonly used air outlet form is slot outlet. Considering the diversity of application places, different air outlet form models (Slot outlet (SO), Rectangular outlet (RO), Circular outlet (CO), Semi-circular outlet (SCO)) were established in this paper. Air distributions of the attached ventilation under different air outlet forms are analyzed and compared. The results show that the attached jet thickness is larger under RO, CO, and SCO form. Compared with SO form, the jet velocities of other three forms decay slowly in the vertical region. The attached ventilation with different outlet forms can form an "air lake" in the occupied zone to ensure the comfort environment. This research provides design references for the design and application of the attached ventilation under different air outlet forms.

With the rapid development of greenhouses, the indoor air quality, particularly airborne microorganisms, is closely related to the health of farmers and needs more attention. In this study, the concentrations of airborne fungi at seedling, fruiting and harvesting stages in typical tomatoes greenhouses were tested. Temperature, relative humidity and the microbial concentrations were analysed. It was found that the dominant fungal genera are Aspergillus and Cladosporium, no matter it was in which growth stage. Ventilation is an effective way to reduce the concentrations of airborne fungi through dilution and decrease the relative humidity.

Super-wettability Cu mesh(200PPI) was successfully fabricated by direct oxidation, liquid deposition and vapor deposition in order to expand its application ranges and enhance microstructure effect. The structure, morphology and wettability of Cu mesh were characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM), transmission electron microscopy(TEM), X-ray diffraction, contact angle instrument and high speed video, and the optimum preparation process of film layer was obtained. The copper mesh with a layer of knife-like flower film shows super-hydrophilic wettability on which the spread velocity of water is 3.5m/s; moreover, the super-hydrophilic mesh with hybrid structures can be switched into super-hydrophobic material (>150°) by liquid deposition and vapor deposition methods; the optimum fabrication conditions to achieve super-hydrophobic performance >150° are oxidation time of 15min, oxidation temperature of 96℃, liquid deposition time of 30min and the treat temperature of 180℃ for 20min. Meantime, hybrid gaps of knife-like flowers are considered as the main reason of the super-wettability of meshes.
