ObjectiveTo establish an ischemia-reperfusion model in cynomolgus macaques and to analyse the effects of edaravone intervention.MethodsA total of fifteen adult male cynomolgus macaques were randomly divided into three groups: sham operation (Sham group, n=3), ischemia-reperfusion model (Model group, n=6) and edaravone treatment (Edaravone group, n=6). Ischemic-reperfusion model of cynomolgus macaques was established by clamping the M1 branch of the left cerebral artery for 1 h. After 2 h of reperfusion, the animals in Edaravone group were injected with 0.5 mg/kg edaravone intravenously for intervention treatment, while the animals in Sham and Model groups were injected with an equal volume of normal saline intravenously, twice a day, from the 2nd to 7th day. The behavioral video recordings, clinical observations and neurological deficit scores of cynomolgus macaques were obtained, and brain edema volume and cerebral ischemia volume were statistically analyzed.ResultsCompared with the Sham group, the animals in Model group showed typical symptoms of ischemic stroke, with a significant increase in the neurological deficit score， the volumes of edema and infarct of brain tissue (all P＜0.01). Compared with Model group, the neurological deficit score, the volumes of edema and infarct of brain tissue were significantly reduced in Edaravone group (all P＜0.05).ConclusionAn animal model of ischemia-reperfusion in cynomolgus macaques was successfully established, and edaravone was confirmed to alleviate the damage caused by ischemia-reperfusion.

Objective of this review was to design an update on the advances of human BPH research. We undertook a literature search for identifying studies of the roles of sex hormones (androgens and estrogens) in the onset and development of human BPH using the Pubmed database. In literature, many studies have indicated that ageing and obesity are the factors for preceding the onset of BPH. No evidence for the role of testosterone (T) or dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is found in BPH initiation. Since BPH exclusively occurs in the transitional zone (TZ) surrounding the urethra, it is postulated that years of exposure to uncharacterized urinary toxins could disrupt the homeostasis of the stroma and/or epithelium of this prostatic zone that are typically occurring in ageing men. After cellular damage and subsequent inflammation generated, the intraprostatic DHT produced mainly from T by 5α-reductase promotes BPH development. Further, estrogens could take part in the nodular proliferation of stromal cells in some BPH patients. The confounding of BPH may attenuate the development of prostate tumor in the TZ. In conclusion, evidence in literature suggests that androgens are not etiological factors for BPH, and intraprostatic DHT along with chronic inflammation are mainly responsible for nodular proliferation of stromal and/or epithelial cells in prostatic TZ. The urinary factors for the etiology of BPH and BPH as a prediction of PCa progression still need further investigation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To predict the number of foreign fibers on the fabric, USTER CLASSIMAT 5 yarn imperfection indicator with foreign fiber detection function was adopted, according to the appearance of foreign fibers (length, reflectivity), foreign fibers were classified. The correlation between the foreign fiber data detected by yarn imperfection indicator and the number of foreign fibers which observed manually on the corresponding knitted fabric was discussed. The test showed there's a strong correlation between the foreign fibers number of yarns detected by yarn imperfection indicator and observed manually on corresponding knitted fabrics. It is considered that the number of yarn foreign fiber can be used as the acceptance standard of yarn foreign fiber when knitting factory purchases yarn, combined with the foreign fiber requirements of cloth is conducive to rational use of yarn. Context The prevalence of vitamin D deficiency (VDD) and its impact on clinical outcomes after kidney transplant (KT) remain poorly defined. Objectives We conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate the impact of early VDD on clinical outcomes after KT. Data Sources Electronic databases (PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and The Cochrane Library) were systematically searched for eligible publications up to April 30, 2020. Data Extraction Relative risk was presented as hazard ratios (HRs) or odds ratios (ORs) and 95%CIs for dichotomous outcomes. Mean difference (MD) and 95%CIs were presented for continuous outcomes. Results A total of 28 studies (13 prospective and 15 retrospective) were included. VDD was common early after KT, with a prevalence of 52% (95%CI: 41%–64%) at transplant, 34% (95%CI: 17%–51%) at 3 months, and 23% (95%CI: 10%–35%) at 6 months. Early VDD was associated with higher mortality rate after KT (HR, 1.56; 95%CI: 1.32–1.84; P  < 0.001). In addition, early VDD led to higher risk of bacterial infection (OR, 1.82; 95%CI: 1.40–2.36; P  < 0.001), BK polyomavirus infection (OR, 2.11, 95%CI: 1.23–3.61; P  = 0.006), and cytomegalovirus infection (OR, 1.69; 95%CI: 1.24–2.31; P  = 0.001). Early VDD increased the risk of acute rejection as well (HR, 2.28; 95%CI: 1.57–3.30; P  < 0.001). Recipients with early VDD had lower estimated glomerular filtration rates (mean difference: −5.06; 95%CI: −7.28 to 2.83 mL/min; P  < 0.001). Sensitivity analyses showed good stability of the pooled results. Conclusion VDD was common early after KT and associated with higher risk of death and adverse outcomes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
