Abstract

Hypocrellins (HYPs), naturally occurring 3,10-xylene-4,9-anthracene derivatives sourced from Shiraia bambusicola and Hypocrella bambusae, exhibit significant photobiological activities. Despite their capability for generating a high yield of reactive oxygen species, including singlet oxygen and superoxide anion radical, their application in photodynamic therapy (PDT) is constrained. This limitation is due to their low dark phototoxicity, weak absorption within the therapeutic window of PDT (600–900 nm), and inherent hydrophobicity, which hinder their immediate use in amphipathic PDT applications. This review comprehensively discusses the research advancements in the bioactivities and biosynthesis of HYPs, alongside the reported chemical and physical modifications that enhance their water solubility and extend their therapeutic window. Additionally, it explores potential strategies for developing pharmaceuticals, photocatalytic agents, and photosensitive pesticides based on HYPs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Common ontology languages, construction principles and construction methods were summarized. It was considered that constructing coal mine safety ontology should adopt OWL-DL language and the construction method of cyclic acquisition method or seven-step method. Current research status of the coal mine safety ontology was analyzed from aspects of coal mine digging and coal mine disaster event ontology, coal mine safety database query ontology and coal mine safety knowledge concept ontology. Advantages, disadvantages, application scene and construction process of the three coal mine safety ontologies were summarized, and an ontology integration strategy of the above three coal mine safety ontologies was proposed.

Abstract

Rubber trees along the southeast coast of China always suffer severe damage from hurricanes. Quantitative assessments of the capacity for wind resistance of various rubber tree clones are currently lacking. We focus on a vulnerability assessment of rubber trees of different clones under wind disturbance impacts by employing multidisciplinary approaches incorporating scanned points, aerodynamics, machine learning and computer graphics. Point cloud data from two typical rubber trees belonging to different clones (PR107 and CATAS 7-20-59) were collected using terrestrial laser scanning, and a connection chain of tree skeletons was constructed using a clustering algorithm of machine learning. The concept of foliage clumps based on the trunk and first-order branches was first proposed to optimize rubber tree plot 3D modelling for simulating the wind field and assessing the wind-related parameters. The results from the obtained phenotypic traits show that the variable leaf area index and included angle between the branches and trunk result in variations in the topological structure and gap fraction of tree crowns, respectively, which are the major influencing factors relevant to the rubber tree’s capacity to resist hurricane strikes. The aerodynamics analysis showed that the maximum dynamic pressure, wind velocity and turbulent intensity of the wind-related parameters in rubber tree plots of clone PR107 (300 Pa, 30 m/s and 15%) are larger than that in rubber tree plots of clone CATAS-7-20-59 (120 Pa, 18 m/s and 5%), which results in a higher probability of local strong cyclone occurrence and a higher vulnerability to hurricane damage.

Abstract

Anion exchange chromatography, gel filtration, HA chromatography and gel electrophoresis help purify a ferulic acid decarboxylase from Pseudomonas fluorescens. The different values of molecular weight obtained, 40.4 kDa from gel filtration and 20.4 kDa from sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, indicate that the enzyme is homodimeric in solution. The enzyme catalyzes the decarboxylation of ferulic acid and has a Km of 7.9 mM for ferulic acid. Hg+, Cu2+, N-ethylmaleimide and p-chloromercuribenzoic acid inactivate the enzyme, indicating the essentiality of sulfhydryl groups for enzyme function.

Abstract

The ferulic acid degradative pathway followed by Pseudomonas fluorescens and Saccharomyces cerevisiae were investigated. Metabolites were isolated by solid-phase extraction and analyzed by thin-layer chromatography and high performance liquid chromatography. Based on the analysis, a new mechanism for decarboxylation of ferulic acid is proposed. The proposed mechanism is nonoxidative, and was carried out by both organisms in media containing deuterium dioxide.

Abstract

The density and viscosity of the cyclopropyl methyl ketone (CPMK) + 2-acetylbutyrolactone (ABL) and CPMK + 5-chloro-2-pentanone (CPE) binary mixtures were measured at the temperature range of 303.15 to 333.15 K at atmospheric pressure (about 101.325 ± 0.3 kPa). The excess molar volume and viscosity deviation were calculated based on the experimental data of density and viscosity, and they could be accurately described by the Redlich–Kister equation. In addition, the vapor–liquid equilibrium (VLE) data for the CPMK-ABL binary system were measured at atmospheric pressure. It was shown that there is no azeotrope in this binary mixture. The VLE data were correlated with NRTL, Wilson, and UNIQUAC models and the interaction parameters obtained were reported. The prediction accuracies of these models were about the same.

49. Preparation of a Fe-ZSM-5 Adsorbent and Its Selective Adsorption of p-Xylene Performance Exploration

Abstract

In the purified terephthalic acid wastewater treatment process, a large amount of wastewater containing p-xylene (PX), Co2+, and Mn2+would be by-produced and PX needs to be recycled to avoid affecting the subsequent treatment process. Fe3+-modified ZSM-5 zeolites were prepared for selective adsorption of PX, which were better than H-ZSM-5 zeolites and ZSM-5 zeolites. Moreover, the selectivity factors of PX to Co2+and PX to Mn2+attained on Fe-ZSM-5 can approach to 5365.97 and 5038.70, respectively, and the saturated capacity can reach 125.0 mg·g–1. Experimental data obtained from batch studies provided a good fit for the Langmuir isotherm model. The adsorption process was a spontaneously exothermic physisorption, and the adsorption of PX on Fe-ZSM-5 followed the pseudo-second-order rate expression. Production of granular Fe-ZSM-5 was further explored, and the fixed bed adsorption experiment was carried out. The adsorption capacity of granular Fe-ZSM-5 to PX can reach 45.64 mg·g–1under better process conditions, which is superior to ZSM-5 zeolites and activated carbon. It shows that Fe-ZSM-5 can be used as a highly efficient adsorbent to selectively remove PX from wastewater with industrial prospects.
