Mitral regurgitation (MR) is a serious heart valve disease. Early and accurate diagnosis of MR via ultrasound video is critical for timely clinical decision-making and surgical intervention. However, manual MR diagnosis heavily relies on the operator's experience, which may cause misdiagnosis and inter-observer variability. Since MR data is limited and has large intra-class variability, we propose an unsupervised out-of-distribution (OOD) detection method to identify MR rather than building a deep classifier. To our knowledge, we are the first to explore OOD in MR ultrasound videos. Our method consists of a feature extractor, a feature reconstruction model, and a residual accumulation amplification algorithm. The feature extractor obtains features from the video clips and feeds them into the feature reconstruction model to restore the original features. The residual accumulation amplification algorithm then iteratively performs noise feature reconstruction, amplifying the reconstructed error of OOD features. This algorithm is straightforward yet efficient and can seamlessly integrate as a plug-and-play component in reconstruction-based OOD detection methods. We validated the proposed method on a large ultrasound dataset containing 893 non-MR and 267 MR videos. Echocardiography video is a primary modality for diagnosing heart diseases, but the limited data poses challenges for both clinical teaching and machine learning training. Recently, video generative models have emerged as a promising strategy to alleviate this issue. However, previous methods often relied on holistic conditions during generation, hindering the flexible movement control over specific cardiac structures. In this context, we propose an explainable and controllable method for echocardiography video generation, taking an initial frame and a motion curve as guidance. Our contributions are three-fold. First, we extract motion information from each heart substructure to construct motion curves, enabling the diffusion model to synthesize customized echocardiography videos by modifying these curves. Second, we propose the structure-to-motion alignment module, which can map semantic features onto motion curves across cardiac structures. Third, The position-aware attention mechanism is designed to enhance video consistency utilizing Gaussian masks with structural position information. Extensive experiments on three echocardiography datasets show that our method outperforms others regarding fidelity and consistency. The Segment Anything Model (SAM) can achieve satisfactory segmentation performance under high-quality box prompts. However, SAM's robustness is compromised by the decline in box quality, limiting its practicality in clinical reality. In this study, we propose a novel Robust Box prompt based SAM (\textbf{RoBox-SAM}) to ensure SAM's segmentation performance under prompts with different qualities. Our contribution is three-fold. First, we propose a prompt refinement module to implicitly perceive the potential targets, and output the offsets to directly transform the low-quality box prompt into a high-quality one. We then provide an online iterative strategy for further prompt refinement. Second, we introduce a prompt enhancement module to automatically generate point prompts to assist the box-promptable segmentation effectively. Last, we build a self-information extractor to encode the prior information from the input image. These features can optimize the image embeddings and attention calculation, thus, the robustness of SAM can be further enhanced. In this paper, we present STRIDE, a Simple, Terrestrial, Reconfigurable, Intelligent, Dynamic, and Educational bipedal platform. STRIDE aims to propel bipedal robotics research and education by providing a cost-effective implementation with step-by-step instructions for building a bipedal robotic platform while providing flexible customizations via a modular and durable design. Moreover, a versatile terrain setup and a quantitative disturbance injection system are augmented to the robot platform to replicate natural terrains and push forces that can be used to evaluate legged locomotion in practical and adversarial scenarios. We demonstrate the functionalities of this platform by realizing an adaptive step-to-step dynamics based walking controller to achieve dynamic walking. Echocardiography (ECHO) video is widely used for cardiac examination. In clinical, this procedure heavily relies on operator experience, which needs years of training and maybe the assistance of deep learning-based systems for enhanced accuracy and efficiency. However, it is challenging since acquiring sufficient customized data (e.g., abnormal cases) for novice training and deep model development is clinically unrealistic. Hence, controllable ECHO video synthesis is highly desirable. In this paper, we propose a novel diffusion-based framework named HeartBeat towards controllable and high-fidelity ECHO video synthesis. Our highlight is three-fold. First, HeartBeat serves as a unified framework that enables perceiving multimodal conditions simultaneously to guide controllable generation. Second, we factorize the multimodal conditions into local and global ones, with two insertion strategies separately provided fine- and coarse-grained controls in a composable and flexible manner. In this way, users can synthesize ECHO videos that conform to their mental imagery by combining multimodal control signals. Third, we propose to decouple the visual concepts and temporal dynamics learning using a two-stage training scheme for simplifying the model training. One more interesting thing is that HeartBeat can easily generalize to mask-guided cardiac MRI synthesis in a few shots, showcasing its scalability to broader applications. Recently, diffusion probabilistic models have attracted attention in generative time series forecasting due to their remarkable capacity to generate high-fidelity samples. However, the effective utilization of their strong modeling ability in the probabilistic time series forecasting task remains an open question, partially due to the challenge of instability arising from their stochastic nature. To address this challenge, we introduce a novel Multi-Granularity Time Series Diffusion (MG-TSD) model, which achieves state-of-the-art predictive performance by leveraging the inherent granularity levels within the data as given targets at intermediate diffusion steps to guide the learning process of diffusion models. The way to construct the targets is motivated by the observation that the forward process of the diffusion model, which sequentially corrupts the data distribution to a standard normal distribution, intuitively aligns with the process of smoothing fine-grained data into a coarse-grained representation, both of which result in a gradual loss of fine distribution features. In the study, we derive a novel multi-granularity guidance diffusion loss function and propose a concise implementation method to effectively utilize coarse-grained data across various granularity levels. More importantly, our approach does not rely on additional external data, making it versatile and applicable across various domains. Designing molecules with desirable properties, such as drug-likeliness and high binding affinities towards protein targets, is a challenging problem. In this paper, we propose the Dual-Space Optimization (DSO) method that integrates latent space sampling and data space selection to solve this problem. DSO iteratively updates a latent space generative model and a synthetic dataset in an optimization process that gradually shifts the generative model and the synthetic data towards regions of desired property values. Our generative model takes the form of a Latent Prompt Transformer (LPT) where the latent vector serves as the prompt of a causal transformer. Our extensive experiments demonstrate effectiveness of the proposed method, which sets new performance benchmarks across single-objective, multi-objective and constrained molecule design tasks.

In tasks aiming for long-term returns, planning becomes essential. We study generative modeling for planning with datasets repurposed from offline reinforcement learning. Specifically, we identify temporal consistency in the absence of step-wise rewards as one key technical challenge. We introduce the Latent Plan Transformer (LPT), a novel model that leverages a latent space to connect a Transformer-based trajectory generator and the final return. LPT can be learned with maximum likelihood estimation on trajectory-return pairs. In learning, posterior sampling of the latent variable naturally integrates sub-trajectories to form a consistent abstraction despite the finite context. At test time, the latent variable is inferred from an expected return before policy execution, realizing the idea of planning as inference. Our experiments demonstrate that LPT can discover improved decisions from suboptimal trajectories, achieving competitive performance across several benchmarks, including Gym-Mujoco, Franka Kitchen, Maze2D, and Connect Four. It exhibits capabilities in nuanced credit assignments, trajectory stitching, and adaptation to environmental contingencies. These results validate that latent variable inference can be a strong alternative to step-wise reward prompting.

Fetal pose estimation in 3D ultrasound (US) involves identifying a set of associated fetal anatomical landmarks. Its primary objective is to provide comprehensive information about the fetus through landmark connections, thus benefiting various critical applications, such as biometric measurements, plane localization, and fetal movement monitoring. However, accurately estimating the 3D fetal pose in US volume has several challenges, including poor image quality, limited GPU memory for tackling high dimensional data, symmetrical or ambiguous anatomical structures, and considerable variations in fetal poses. In this study, we propose a novel 3D fetal pose estimation framework (called FetusMapV2) to overcome the above challenges. Our contribution is three-fold. First, we propose a heuristic scheme that explores the complementary network structure-unconstrained and activation-unreserved GPU memory management approaches, which can enlarge the input image resolution for better results under limited GPU memory. Second, we design a novel Pair Loss to mitigate confusion caused by symmetrical and similar anatomical structures. It separates the hidden classification task from the landmark localization task and thus progressively eases model learning. Last, we propose a shape priors-based self-supervised learning by selecting the relatively stable landmarks to refine the pose online. This paper proposes a latent prompt Transformer model for solving challenging optimization problems such as molecule design, where the goal is to find molecules with optimal values of a target chemical or biological property that can be computed by an existing software. Our proposed model consists of three components. (1) A latent vector whose prior distribution is modeled by a Unet transformation of a Gaussian white noise vector. (2) A molecule generation model that generates the string-based representation of molecule conditional on the latent vector in (1). We adopt the causal Transformer model that takes the latent vector in (1) as prompt. (3) A property prediction model that predicts the value of the target property of a molecule based on a non-linear regression on the latent vector in (1). We call the proposed model the latent prompt Transformer model. After initial training of the model on existing molecules and their property values, we then gradually shift the model distribution towards the region that supports desired values of the target property for the purpose of molecule design. Our experiments show that our proposed model achieves state of the art performances on several benchmark molecule design tasks.

Medical image segmentation aims to delineate the anatomical or pathological structures of interest, playing a crucial role in clinical diagnosis. A substantial amount of high-quality annotated data is crucial for constructing high-precision deep segmentation models. However, medical annotation is highly cumbersome and time-consuming, especially for medical videos or 3D volumes, due to the huge labeling space and poor inter-frame consistency. Recently, a fundamental task named Moving Object Segmentation (MOS) has made significant advancements in natural images. Its objective is to delineate moving objects from the background within image sequences, requiring only minimal annotations. In this paper, we propose the first foundation model, named iMOS, for MOS in medical images. Extensive experiments on a large multi-modal medical dataset validate the effectiveness of the proposed iMOS. Specifically, with the annotation of only a small number of images in the sequence, iMOS can achieve satisfactory tracking and segmentation performance of moving objects throughout the entire sequence in bi-directions. Interactive medical image segmentation refers to the accurate segmentation of the target of interest through interaction (e.g., click) between the user and the image. It has been widely studied in recent years as it is less dependent on abundant annotated data and more flexible than fully automated segmentation. However, current studies have not fully explored user-provided prompt information (e.g., points), including the knowledge mined in one interaction, and the relationship between multiple interactions. Thus, in this paper, we introduce a novel framework equipped with prompt enhancement, called PE-MED, for interactive medical image segmentation. First, we introduce a Self-Loop strategy to generate warm initial segmentation results based on the first prompt. It can prevent the highly unfavorable scenarios, such as encountering a blank mask as the initial input after the first interaction. Second, we propose a novel Prompt Attention Learning Module (PALM) to mine useful prompt information in one interaction, enhancing the responsiveness of the network to user clicks. Last, we build a Time Series Information Propagation (TSIP) mechanism to extract the temporal relationships between multiple interactions and increase the model stability. Ultrasound (US) imaging is indispensable in clinical practice. To diagnose certain diseases, sonographers must observe corresponding dynamic anatomic structures to gather comprehensive information. However, the limited availability of specific US video cases causes teaching difficulties in identifying corresponding diseases, which potentially impacts the detection rate of such cases. The synthesis of US videos may represent a promising solution to this issue. Nevertheless, it is challenging to accurately animate the intricate motion of dynamic anatomic structures while preserving image fidelity. To address this, we present a novel online feature-decoupling framework called OnUVS for high-fidelity US video synthesis. Our highlights can be summarized by four aspects. First, we introduced anatomic information into keypoint learning through a weakly-supervised training strategy, resulting in improved preservation of anatomical integrity and motion while minimizing the labeling burden. Second, to better preserve the integrity and textural information of US images, we implemented a dual-decoder that decouples the content and textural features in the generator. Third, we adopted a multiple-feature discriminator to extract a comprehensive range of visual cues, thereby enhancing the sharpness and fine details of the generated videos. Fourth, we constrained the motion trajectories of keypoints during online learning to enhance the fluidity of generated videos. Video Compressed Sensing (VCS) aims to reconstruct multiple frames from one single captured measurement, thus achieving high-speed scene recording with a low-frame-rate sensor. Although there have been impressive advances in VCS recently, those state-of-the-art (SOTA) methods also significantly increase model complexity and suffer from poor generality and robustness, which means that those networks need to be retrained to accommodate the new system. Such limitations hinder the real-time imaging and practical deployment of models. In this work, we propose a Sampling-Priors-Augmented Deep Unfolding Network (SPA-DUN) for efficient and robust VCS reconstruction. Under the optimization-inspired deep unfolding framework, a lightweight and efficient U-net is exploited to downsize the model while improving overall performance. Moreover, the prior knowledge from the sampling model is utilized to dynamically modulate the network features to enable single SPA-DUN to handle arbitrary sampling settings, augmenting interpretability and generality. Extensive experiments on both simulation and real datasets demonstrate that SPA-DUN is not only applicable for various sampling settings with one single model but also achieves SOTA performance with incredible efficiency.

Deep learning-based deformable registration methods have been widely investigated in diverse medical applications. Learning-based deformable registration relies on weighted objective functions trading off registration accuracy and smoothness of the deformation field. Therefore, they inevitably require tuning the hyperparameter for optimal registration performance. Tuning the hyperparameters is highly computationally expensive and introduces undesired dependencies on domain knowledge. In this study, we construct a registration model based on the gradient surgery mechanism, named GSMorph, to achieve a hyperparameter-free balance on multiple losses. In GSMorph, we reformulate the optimization procedure by projecting the gradient of similarity loss orthogonally to the plane associated with the smoothness constraint, rather than additionally introducing a hyperparameter to balance these two competing terms. Furthermore, our method is model-agnostic and can be merged into any deep registration network without introducing extra parameters or slowing down inference. In this study, We compared our method with state-of-the-art (SOTA) deformable registration approaches over two publicly available cardiac MRI datasets. Localization of the narrowest position of the vessel and corresponding vessel and remnant vessel delineation in carotid ultrasound (US) are essential for carotid stenosis grading (CSG) in clinical practice. However, the pipeline is time-consuming and tough due to the ambiguous boundaries of plaque and temporal variation. To automatize this procedure, a large number of manual delineations are usually required, which is not only laborious but also not reliable given the annotation difficulty. In this study, we present the first video classification framework for automatic CSG. Our contribution is three-fold. First, to avoid the requirement of laborious and unreliable annotation, we propose a novel and effective video classification network for weakly-supervised CSG. Second, to ease the model training, we adopt an inflation strategy for the network, where pre-trained 2D convolution weights can be adapted into the 3D counterpart in our network for an effective warm start. Third, to enhance the feature discrimination of the video, we propose a novel attention-guided multi-dimension fusion (AMDF) transformer encoder to model and integrate global dependencies within and across spatial and temporal dimensions, where two lightweight cross-dimensional attention mechanisms are designed. Deep classifiers may encounter significant performance degradation when processing unseen testing data from varying centers, vendors, and protocols. Ensuring the robustness of deep models against these domain shifts is crucial for their widespread clinical application. In this study, we propose a novel approach called Fourier Test-time Adaptation (FTTA), which employs a dual-adaptation design to integrate input and model tuning, thereby jointly improving the model robustness. The main idea of FTTA is to build a reliable multi-level consistency measurement of paired inputs for achieving self-correction of prediction. Our contribution is two-fold. First, we encourage consistency in global features and local attention maps between the two transformed images of the same input. Here, the transformation refers to Fourier-based input adaptation, which can transfer one unseen image into source style to reduce the domain gap. Furthermore, we leverage style-interpolated images to enhance the global and local features with learnable parameters, which can smooth the consistency measurement and accelerate convergence. Second, we introduce a regularization technique that utilizes style interpolation consistency in the frequency space to encourage self-consistency in the logit space of the model output. This regularization provides strong self-supervised signals for robustness enhancement. FTTA was extensively validated on three large classification datasets with different modalities and organs. The Segment Anything Model (SAM) is the first foundation model for general image segmentation. It has achieved impressive results on various natural image segmentation tasks. However, medical image segmentation (MIS) is more challenging because of the complex modalities, fine anatomical structures, uncertain and complex object boundaries, and wide-range object scales. To fully validate SAM's performance on medical data, we collected and sorted 53 open-source datasets and built a large medical segmentation dataset with 18 modalities, 84 objects, 125 object-modality paired targets, 1050K 2D images, and 6033K masks. We comprehensively analyzed different models and strategies on the so-called COSMOS 1050K dataset. Our findings mainly include the following: 1) SAM showed remarkable performance in some specific objects but was unstable, imperfect, or even totally failed in other situations. 2) SAM with the large ViT-H showed better overall performance than that with the small ViT-B. 3) SAM performed better with manual hints, especially box, than the Everything mode. 4) SAM could help human annotation with high labeling quality and less time. 5) SAM was sensitive to the randomness in the center point and tight box prompts, and may suffer from a serious performance drop. 6) SAM performed better than interactive methods with one or a few points, but will be outpaced as the number of points increases. 7) SAM's performance correlated to different factors, including boundary complexity, intensity differences, etc. 8) Finetuning the SAM on specific medical tasks could improve its average DICE performance by 4.39% and 6.68% for ViT-B and ViT-H, respectively. Efficient representation of point clouds is fundamental for LiDAR-based 3D object detection. While recent grid-based detectors often encode point clouds into either voxels or pillars, the distinctions between these approaches remain underexplored. In this paper, we quantify the differences between the current encoding paradigms and highlight the limited vertical learning within. To tackle these limitations, we introduce a hybrid Voxel-Pillar Fusion network (VPF), which synergistically combines the unique strengths of both voxels and pillars. Specifically, we first develop a sparse voxel-pillar encoder that encodes point clouds into voxel and pillar features through 3D and 2D sparse convolutions respectively, and then introduce the Sparse Fusion Layer (SFL), facilitating bidirectional interaction between sparse voxel and pillar features. Our efficient, fully sparse method can be seamlessly integrated into both dense and sparse detectors. Leveraging this powerful yet straightforward framework, VPF delivers competitive performance, achieving real-time inference speeds on the nuScenes and Waymo Open Dataset. The success of existing video super-resolution (VSR) algorithms stems mainly exploiting the temporal information from the neighboring frames. However, none of these methods have discussed the influence of the temporal redundancy in the patches with stationary objects and background and usually use all the information in the adjacent frames without any discrimination. In this paper, we observe that the temporal redundancy will bring adverse effect to the information propagation,which limits the performance of the most existing VSR methods. Motivated by this observation, we aim to improve existing VSR algorithms by handling the temporal redundancy patches in an optimized manner. We develop two simple yet effective plug and play methods to improve the performance of existing local and non-local propagation-based VSR algorithms on widely-used public videos. For more comprehensive evaluating the robustness and performance of existing VSR algorithms, we also collect a new dataset which contains a variety of public videos as testing set. Extensive evaluations show that the proposed methods can significantly improve the performance of existing VSR methods on the collected videos from wild scenarios while maintain their performance on existing commonly used datasets. Deep segmentation models often face the failure risks when the testing image presents unseen distributions. Improving model robustness against these risks is crucial for the large-scale clinical application of deep models. In this study, inspired by human learning cycle, we propose a novel online reflective learning framework (RefSeg) to improve segmentation robustness. Based on the reflection-on-action conception, our RefSeg firstly drives the deep model to take action to obtain semantic segmentation. Then, RefSeg triggers the model to reflect itself. Because making deep models realize their segmentation failures during testing is challenging, RefSeg synthesizes a realistic proxy image from the semantic mask to help deep models build intuitive and effective reflections. This proxy translates and emphasizes the segmentation flaws. By maximizing the structural similarity between the raw input and the proxy, the reflection-on-action loop is closed with segmentation robustness improved. RefSeg runs in the testing phase and is general for segmentation models. Standard plane (SP) localization is essential in routine clinical ultrasound (US) diagnosis. Compared to 2D US, 3D US can acquire multiple view planes in one scan and provide complete anatomy with the addition of coronal plane. However, manually navigating SPs in 3D US is laborious and biased due to the orientation variability and huge search space. In this study, we introduce a novel reinforcement learning (RL) framework for automatic SP localization in 3D US. Our contribution is three-fold. First, we formulate SP localization in 3D US as a tangent-point-based problem in RL to restructure the action space and significantly reduce the search space. Second, we design an auxiliary task learning strategy to enhance the model's ability to recognize subtle differences crossing Non-SPs and SPs in plane search. Finally, we propose a spatial-anatomical reward to effectively guide learning trajectories by exploiting spatial and anatomical information simultaneously. We explore the efficacy of our approach on localizing four SPs on uterus and fetal brain datasets. Ultrasound (US) is widely used for its advantages of real-time imaging, radiation-free and portability. In clinical practice, analysis and diagnosis often rely on US sequences rather than a single image to obtain dynamic anatomical information. This is challenging for novices to learn because practicing with adequate videos from patients is clinically unpractical. In this paper, we propose a novel framework to synthesize high-fidelity US videos. Specifically, the synthesis videos are generated by animating source content images based on the motion of given driving videos. Our highlights are three-fold. First, leveraging the advantages of self- and fully-supervised learning, our proposed system is trained in weakly-supervised manner for keypoint detection. These keypoints then provide vital information for handling complex high dynamic motions in US videos. Second, we decouple content and texture learning using the dual decoders to effectively reduce the model learning difficulty. Last, we adopt the adversarial training strategy with GAN losses for further improving the sharpness of the generated videos, narrowing the gap between real and synthesis videos. We validate our method on a large in-house pelvic dataset with high dynamic motion. While many human imaging methodologies probe the structural and functional connectivity of the brain, techniques to investigate cortical networks in a causal and directional manner are critical but limited. The use of iEEG enables several approaches to directly characterize brain regions that are functionally connected and in some cases also establish directionality of these connections. In this chapter we focus on the basis, method and application of the cortico-cortical evoked potential (CCEP), whereby electrical pulses applied to one set of intracranial electrodes yields an electrically-induced brain response at local and remote regions. In this chapter, CCEPs are first contextualized within common brain connectivity methods used to define cortical networks and how CCEP adds unique information. Second, the practical and analytical considerations when using CCEP are discussed. This paper reviews the NTIRE 2022 Challenge on Super-Resolution and Quality Enhancement of Compressed Video. In this challenge, we proposed the LDV 2.0 dataset, which includes the LDV dataset (240 videos) and 95 additional videos. This challenge includes three tracks. Track 1 aims at enhancing the videos compressed by HEVC at a fixed QP. Track 2 and Track 3 target both the super-resolution and quality enhancement of HEVC compressed video. They require x2 and x4 super-resolution, respectively. The three tracks totally attract more than 600 registrations. In the test phase, 8 teams, 8 teams and 12 teams submitted the final results to Tracks 1, 2 and 3, respectively. The proposed methods and solutions gauge the state-of-the-art of super-resolution and quality enhancement of compressed video. Ultrasound (US) imaging is widely used for anatomical structure inspection in clinical diagnosis. The training of new sonographers and deep learning based algorithms for US image analysis usually requires a large amount of data. However, obtaining and labeling large-scale US imaging data are not easy tasks, especially for diseases with low incidence. Realistic US image synthesis can alleviate this problem to a great extent. In this paper, we propose a generative adversarial network (GAN) based image synthesis framework. Our main contributions include: 1) we present the first work that can synthesize realistic B-mode US images with high-resolution and customized texture editing features; 2) to enhance structural details of generated images, we propose to introduce auxiliary sketch guidance into a conditional GAN. We superpose the edge sketch onto the object mask and use the composite mask as the network input; 3) to generate high-resolution US images, we adopt a progressive training strategy to gradually generate high-resolution images from low-resolution images. In addition, a feature loss is proposed to minimize the difference of high-level features between the generated and real images, which further improves the quality of generated images; 4) the proposed US image synthesis method is quite universal and can also be generalized to the US images of other anatomical structures besides the three ones tested in our study (lung, hip joint, and ovary); 5) extensive experiments on three large US image datasets are conducted to validate our method. Different from handcrafted features, deep neural networks can automatically learn task-specific features from data. Due to this data-driven nature, they have achieved remarkable success in various areas. However, manual design and selection of suitable network architectures are time-consuming and require substantial effort of human experts. To address this problem, researchers have proposed neural architecture search (NAS) algorithms which can automatically generate network architectures but suffer from heavy computational cost and instability if searching from scratch. In this paper, we propose a hybrid NAS framework for ultrasound (US) image classification and segmentation. The hybrid framework consists of a pre-trained backbone and several searched cells (i.e., network building blocks), which takes advantage of the strengths of both NAS and the expert knowledge from existing convolutional neural networks. Specifically, two effective and lightweight operations, a mixed depth-wise convolution operator and a squeeze-and-excitation block, are introduced into the candidate operations to enhance the variety and capacity of the searched cells. These two operations not only decrease model parameters but also boost network performance. Moreover, we propose a re-aggregation strategy for the searched cells, aiming to further improve the performance for different vision tasks. We tested our method on two large US image datasets, including a 9-class echinococcosis dataset containing 9566 images for classification and an ovary dataset containing 3204 images for segmentation. Ablation experiments and comparison with other handcrafted or automatically searched architectures demonstrate that our method can generate more powerful and lightweight models for the above US image classification and segmentation tasks., Comment: 17 pages,11 figures. The success of the state-of-the-art video deblurring methods stems mainly from implicit or explicit estimation of alignment among the adjacent frames for latent video restoration. However, due to the influence of the blur effect, estimating the alignment information from the blurry adjacent frames is not a trivial task. Inaccurate estimations will interfere the following frame restoration. Instead of estimating alignment information, we propose a simple and effective deep Recurrent Neural Network with Multi-scale Bi-directional Propagation (RNN-MBP) to effectively propagate and gather the information from unaligned neighboring frames for better video deblurring. Specifically, we build a Multi-scale Bi-directional Propagation~(MBP) module with two U-Net RNN cells which can directly exploit the inter-frame information from unaligned neighboring hidden states by integrating them in different scales. Moreover, to better evaluate the proposed algorithm and existing state-of-the-art methods on real-world blurry scenes, we also create a Real-World Blurry Video Dataset (RBVD) by a well-designed Digital Video Acquisition System (DVAS) and use it as the training and evaluation dataset. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that the proposed RBVD dataset effectively improves the performance of existing algorithms on real-world blurry videos, and the proposed algorithm performs favorably against the state-of-the-art methods on three typical benchmarks. As an emerging technology in deep learning, physics-informed neural networks (PINNs) have been widely used to solve various partial differential equations (PDEs) in engineering. However, PDEs based on practical considerations contain multiple physical quantities and complex initial boundary conditions, thus PINNs often returns incorrect results. Here we take heat transfer problem in multilayer fabrics as a typical example. It is coupled by multiple temperature fields with strong correlation, and the values of variables are extremely unbalanced among different dimensions. We clarify the potential difficulties of solving such problems by classic PINNs, and propose a parallel physics-informed neural networks with bidirectional balance. In detail, our parallel solving framework synchronously fits coupled equations through several multilayer perceptions. Moreover, we design two modules to balance forward process of data and back-propagation process of loss gradient. This bidirectional balance not only enables the whole network to converge stably, but also helps to fully learn various physical conditions in PDEs. We provide a series of ablation experiments to verify the effectiveness of the proposed methods. Nodule segmentation from breast ultrasound images is challenging yet essential for the diagnosis. Weakly-supervised segmentation (WSS) can help reduce time-consuming and cumbersome manual annotation. Unlike existing weakly-supervised approaches, in this study, we propose a novel and general WSS framework called Flip Learning, which only needs the box annotation. Specifically, the target in the label box will be erased gradually to flip the classification tag, and the erased region will be considered as the segmentation result finally. Our contribution is three-fold. First, our proposed approach erases on superpixel level using a Multi-agent Reinforcement Learning framework to exploit the prior boundary knowledge and accelerate the learning process. Second, we design two rewards: classification score and intensity distribution reward, to avoid under- and over-segmentation, respectively. Third, we adopt a coarse-to-fine learning strategy to reduce the residual errors and improve the segmentation performance. Extensively validated on a large dataset, our proposed approach achieves competitive performance and shows great potential to narrow the gap between fully-supervised and weakly-supervised learning., Comment: Accepted by MICCAI 2021

3D ultrasound (US) is widely used for its rich diagnostic information. However, it is criticized for its limited field of view. 3D freehand US reconstruction is promising in addressing the problem by providing broad range and freeform scan. The existing deep learning based methods only focus on the basic cases of skill sequences, and the model relies on the training data heavily. The sequences in real clinical practice are a mix of diverse skills and have complex scanning paths. Besides, deep models should adapt themselves to the testing cases with prior knowledge for better robustness, rather than only fit to the training cases. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to sensorless freehand 3D US reconstruction considering the complex skill sequences. Our contribution is three-fold. First, we advance a novel online learning framework by designing a differentiable reconstruction algorithm. It realizes an end-to-end optimization from section sequences to the reconstructed volume. Second, a self-supervised learning method is developed to explore the context information that reconstructed by the testing data itself, promoting the perception of the model. Third, inspired by the effectiveness of shape prior, we also introduce adversarial training to strengthen the learning of anatomical shape prior in the reconstructed volume. By mining the context and structural cues of the testing data, our online learning methods can drive the model to handle complex skill sequences. Experimental results on developmental dysplasia of the hip US and fetal US datasets show that, our proposed method can outperform the start-of-the-art methods regarding the shift errors and path similarities., Comment: Early accepted by MICCAI-2021

In this paper we propose an improved fast iterative method to solve the Eikonal equation, which can be implemented in parallel. We improve the fast iterative method for Eikonal equation in two novel ways, in the value update and in the error correction. The new value update is very similar to the fast iterative method in that we selectively update the points, chosen by a convergence measure, in the active list. However, in order to reduce running time, the improved algorithm does not run a convergence check of the neighboring points of the narrow band as the fast iterative method usually does. The additional error correction step is to correct the errors that the previous value update step may cause. The error correction step consists of finding and recalculating the point values in a separate remedy list which is quite easy to implement on a GPU. In contrast to the fast marching method and the fast sweeping method for the Eikonal equation, our improved method does not need to compute the solution with any special ordering in neither the remedy list nor the active list. Therefore, our algorithm can be implemented in parallel. In our experiments, we implemente our new algorithm in parallel on a GPU and compare the elapsed time with other current algorithms.
