6. Surface Chemistry Regulation in Cu4I4-Triazolate Metal–Organic Frameworks for One-Step C3H6Purification from Quaternary C3Mixtures

Abstract

C3H6is a crucial building block for many chemicals, yet separating it from other C3hydrocarbons presents a significant challenge. Herein, we report a hydrolytically stable Cu4I4-triazolate metal–organic framework (MOF) (JNU-9-CH3) featuring 1D channels decorated with readily accessible iodine and nitrogen atoms from Cu4I4clusters and triazolate linkers, respectively. The exposed iodine and nitrogen atoms allow for cooperative binding of C3hydrocarbons, as evidenced by in situsingle-crystal crystallography and Raman spectroscopy studies. As a result, JNU-9-CH3exhibits substantially stronger binding affinity for C3H4, CH2═C═CH2, and C3H8than that for C3H6. Breakthrough experiments confirm its ability to directly separate C3H6(≥99.99%) from C3H4/CH2═C═CH2/C3H8/C3H6mixtures at varying ratios and flow rates. Overall, we illustrate the cooperative binding of C3hydrocarbons in a Cu4I4-triazolate MOF and its highly efficient C3H6purification from quaternary C3mixtures. The study highlights the potential of MOF adsorbents with metal-iodide clusters for cooperative bindings and hydrocarbon separations.

Abstract

The systematic induction of structural defects at the atomic level is crucial to metal nanocluster research because it endows cluster‐based catalysts with highly reactive centers and allows for a comprehensive investigation of viable reaction pathways. Herein, by substituting neutral phosphine ligands for surface anionic thiolate ligands, we establish that one or two Au3 triangular units can be successfully introduced into the double‐stranded helical kernel of Au44(TBBT)28, where TBBT=4‐tert‐butylbenzenethiolate, resulting in the formation of two atomically precise defective Au44 nanoclusters. Along with the regular face‐centered‐cubic (fcc) nanocluster, the first series of mixed‐ligand cluster homologues is identified, with a unified formula of Au44(PPh3)n(TBBT)28−2n (n=0–2). The Au44(PPh3)(TBBT)26 nanocluster having major structural defects at the bottom of the fcc lattice demonstrates superior electrocatalytic performance in the CO2 reduction to CO. Density functional theory calculations indicate that the active site near the defects significantly lowers the free energy for the *COOH formation, the rate‐determining step in the whole catalytic process. Abstract

HIF-1α is an important factor regulating oxygen balance in mammals, and its expression is closely related to various physiological and pathological conditions of the body. Because HIF-1α plays an important role in the occurrence and development of cancer and other diseases, it has become an enduring research hotspot. At the same time, natural medicines and traditional Chinese medicine compounds have amazing curative effects in various diseases related to HIF-1 subtype due to their unique pharmacological effects and more effective ingredients. Therefore, in this article, we first outline the structure of HIF-1α and the regulation related to its expression, then introduce various diseases closely related to HIF-1α, and finally focus on the regulation of natural medicines and compound Chinese medicines through various pathways. This will help us understand HIF-1α systematically, and use HIF-1α as a target to discover more natural medicines and traditional Chinese medicines that can treat related diseases.

42. Homoleptic Al(III) Photosensitizers for Durable CO2Photoreduction

Abstract

Exploiting noble-metal-free systems for high-performance photocatalytic CO2reduction still presents a key challenge, partially due to the long-standing difficulties in developing potent and durable earth-abundant photosensitizers. Therefore, based on the very cheap aluminum metal, we have deployed a systematic series of homoleptic Al(III) photosensitizers featuring 2-pyridylpyrrolide ligands for CO2photoreduction. The combined studies of steady-state and time-resolved spectroscopy as well as quantum chemical calculations demonstrate that in anerobic CH3CN solutions at room temperature, visible-light excitation of the Al(III) photosensitizers leads to an efficient population of singlet excited states with nanosecond-scale lifetimes and notable emission quantum yields (10–40%). The results of transient absorption spectroscopy further identified the presence of emissive singlet and unexpectedly nonemissive triplet excited states. More importantly, the introduction of methyl groups at the pyrrolide rings can greatly improve the visible-light absorption, reducing power, and durability of the Al(III) photosensitizers. With triethanolamine, BIH (1,3-dimethyl-2-phenyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-benzo[d]imidazole), and an Fe(II)-quaterpyridine catalyst, the most methylated Al(III) photosensitizer achieves an apparent quantum efficiency of 2.8% at 450 nm for selective (>99%) CO2-to-CO conversion, which is nearly 28 times that of the unmethylated one (0.1%) under identical conditions. The optimal system realizes a maximum turnover number of 10250 and higher robustness than the systems with Ru(II) and Cu(I) benchmark photosensitizers. Quenching experiments using fluorescence spectroscopy elucidate that the photoinduced electron transfer in the Al(III)-sensitized system follows a reductive quenching pathway. The remarkable tunability and cost efficiency of these Al(III) photosensitizers should allow them as promising components in noble-metal-free systems for solar fuel conversion.

43. Thiadiazole-functionalized metal–organic frameworks for photocatalytic C–N and C–C coupling reactions: tuning the ROS generation efficiency via cobalt introduction.

Abstract

Heterogeneous photocatalytic organic transformations have attracted widespread attention due to their high efficiency, eco-friendliness, and atom economy. Herein, we report a cobalt-based metal–organic framework (JNU-207) constructed using a thiadiazole-functionalized photosensitizing ligand. The introduction of the cobalt cluster endows JNU-207 with an extended visible-light absorption, suppressed electron–hole recombination, an enhanced ROS (reactive oxygen species) generation efficiency, a lowered lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) energy level, and reduced bandgaps. Its improved electrochemical and photochemical properties were further manifested in the efficient photocatalysis of the oxidative coupling of benzylamines and the oxidative coupling of tertiary anilines with maleimides. In each reaction, the photocatalytic performance of JNU-207 was superior to that of the zinc-based isostructural JNU-204 MOF. In addition, JNU-207 shows excellent chemical stability and can be recovered easily through filtration and re-used without special treatment or activation. This work demonstrates a viable strategy for building robust metal–organic frameworks and addressing the challenges of light absorption, the ROS generation efficiency, and the charge-separation efficiency in photocatalysis. Abstract

Post-synthetic installation strategy is an effective approach to improve the functions of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). Herein, a pair of chiral MOFs is successfully constructed through solvothermal subcomponent self-assembly and exhibit circularly polarized luminescence (CPL). These MOFs contain coordinatively unsaturated Zn sites and channels, which allow the installation of pyridyl-terminated pillars into the original structure. Such a post-synthetic installation process reinforces the MOFs’ rigidity and increases the photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs). Furthermore, the luminescence dissymmetry factors (glum) of these post-modified MOFs are amplified after installing the pillars. This work provides an appealing strategy for boosting the CPL performance of chiral MOFs.
