4. A novel MDPSO-SVR hybrid model for feature selection in electricity consumption forecasting

Abstract

Electricity consumption forecasting has vital importance for the energy planning of a country. Of the enabling machine learning models, support vector regression (SVR) has been widely used to set up forecasting models due to its superior generalization for unseen data. However, one key procedure for the predictive modeling is feature selection, which might hurt the prediction accuracy if improper features were selected. In this regard, a modified discrete particle swarm optimization (MDPSO) was employed for feature selection in this study, and then MDPSO-SVR hybrid mode was built to predict future electricity consumption. Compared with other well-established counterparts, MDPSO-SVR model consistently performs best in two real-world electricity consumption datasets, which indicates that MDPSO for feature selection can improve the prediction accuracy and the SVR equipped with the MDPSO can be a promised alternative for electricity consumption forecasting.

8. Multivariate Empirical Mode Decomposition based Hybrid Model for Day-ahead Peak Load Forecasting

Abstract

Accurate day-ahead peak load forecasting is crucial not only for power dispatching but also has a great interest to investors and energy policy maker as well as government. Literature reveals that 1% error drop of forecast can reduce 10 million pounds operational cost. Thus, this study proposed a novel hybrid predictive model built upon multivariate empirical mode decomposition (MEMD) and support vector regression (SVR) with parameters optimized by particle swarm optimization (PSO), which is able to capture precise electricity peak load. The novelty of this study mainly comes from the application of MEMD, which enables the multivariate data decomposition to effectively extract inherent information among relevant variables at different time frequency during the deterioration of multivariate over time. Two real-world load data sets from the New South Wales (NSW) and the Victoria (VIC) in Australia have been considered to verify the superiority of the proposed MEMD-PSO-SVR hybrid model. The quantitative and comprehensive assessments are performed, and the results indicate that the proposed MEMD-PSO-SVR method is a promising alternative for day-ahead electricity peak load forecasting.

Abstract

Dedicator of cytokinesis 8 (DOCK8) deficiency is a primary immunodeficiency disease caused by mutations in exon 45 of the DOCK8 gene. The clinical signs primarily consist of increased serum IgE levels, eczema, repeated skin infections, allergies, and upper respiratory tract infections. Using CRISPR/Cas9 technology, we generated a DOCK8 exon 45 mutation in mice, mirroring the mutation found in patients. The results indicated that DOCK8 mutation impairs peripheral T cell homeostasis, disrupts regulatory T cells (Tregs) development, increases ICOS expression in Tregs within peripheral lymph nodes (pLn), and promotes Th17 cell differentiation within the spleen and pLn. Upon virus infection, DOCK8 mutation CD4+ T cells have a Th2 effector fate. RNA‐bulk sequencing data revealed alternations in the mTOR pathway of DOCK8 mutant CD4+ T cells. We observed that DOCK8 mutation upregulates the glycolysis levels in CD4+ T cells, which is related to the Akt/mTOR/S6/HIF‐1α pathway. In summary, our research elucidates that DOCK8 regulates the differentiation of helper T cells by modulating the glycolytic pathway in CD4+ T cells, thereby advancing the comprehension and offering potential treatment of diseases in DOCK8‐deficient patients. Abstract

In today's highly developed information and communication technology (ICT), information fusion technology has been widely used in many fields, including education system. This research focuses on how information fusion technology can be effectively integrated into Chinese teaching in middle schools to improve teaching quality and student learning. Through quantitative analysis of student and teacher simulation data, this paper explores in depth the impact of these technologies on student engagement, learning achievement, and teaching outcomes. It is found that the teaching mode using information fusion technology can significantly improve students' learning quality and teaching interaction. Abstract

BACKGROUND:Microbially mediated oral diseases can signal underlying HIV/AIDS progression in HIV-infected adults. The role of the oral microbiota in HIV-infected youth is not known. The Adolescent Master Protocol of the Pediatric HIV/AIDS Cohort Study is a longitudinal study of perinatally HIV-infected (PHIV) and HIV-exposed, uninfected (PHEU) youth. We compared oral microbiome levels and associations with caries or periodontitis in 154 PHIV and 100 PHEU youth. RESULTS:Species richness and alpha diversity differed little between PHIV and PHEU youth. Group differences in average counts met the significance threshold for six taxa; two Corynebacterium species were lower in PHIV and met thresholds for noteworthiness. Several known periodontitis-associated organisms (Prevotella nigrescens, Tannerella forsythia, Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans, and Filifactor alocis) exhibited expected associations with periodontitis in PHEU youth, associations not observed in PHIV youth. In both groups, odds of caries increased with counts of taxa in four genera, Streptococcus, Scardovia, Bifidobacterium, and Lactobacillus. CONCLUSIONS:The microbiomes of PHIV and PHEU youth were similar, although PHIV youth seemed to have fewer "health"-associated taxa such as Corynebacterium species. These results are consistent with the hypothesis that HIV infection, or its treatment, may contribute to oral dysbiosis.
