Abstract

Oracle bone inscriptions(OBI) is the earliest developed writing system in China, bearing invaluable written exemplifications of early Shang history and paleography. However, the task of deciphering OBI, in the current climate of the scholarship, can prove extremely challenging. Out of the 4,500 oracle bone characters excavated, only a third have been successfully identified. Therefore, leveraging the advantages of advanced AI technology to assist in the decipherment of OBI is a highly essential research topic. However, fully utilizing AI's capabilities in these matters is reliant on having a comprehensive and high-quality annotated OBI dataset at hand whereas most existing datasets are only annotated in just a single or a few dimensions, limiting the value of their potential application. For instance, the Oracle-MNIST dataset only offers 30k images classified into 10 categories. Therefore, this paper proposes an Oracle Bone Inscriptions Multi-modal Dataset(OBIMD), which includes annotation information for 10,077 pieces of oracle bones. Each piece has two modalities: pixel-level aligned rubbings and facsimiles. The dataset annotates the detection boxes, character categories, transcriptions, corresponding inscription groups, and reading sequences in the groups of each oracle bone character, providing a comprehensive and high-quality level of annotations. This dataset can be used for a variety of AI-related research tasks relevant to the field of OBI, such as OBI Character Detection and Recognition, Rubbing Denoising, Character Matching, Character Generation, Reading Sequence Prediction, Missing Characters Completion task and so on. We believe that the creation and publication of a dataset like this will help significantly advance the application of AI algorithms in the field of OBI research.

Abstract

The VSC-HVDC transmission systems are the typical solution for integrating far offshore wind power. Using diode rectifier units （DRUs） at the rectifier stations can further enhance the system’s economic efficiency and reliability. Therefore， a steady-state power flow calculation method of AC system transmission system for offshore wind power， based on grid-forming （GFM） wind turbines and DRU， is proposed. The topology of the offshore wind power integration system using DRU is described， and the GFM control strategy of the wind turbines， utilizing Q-f（reactive power-frequency） droop control， is introduced. The proposed steady-state power flow calculation method iterates the power flow using the reactive power imbalance in AC bus at the DRU-based converter station and considers the Q-f droop control characteristics of the GFM wind turbines. The steady-state operational characteristics of AC transmission systems for offshore wind power， based on GFM wind turbines and DRU， are analyzed for both the low-frequency and intermediate-frequency AC transmission systems. The effectiveness of the proposed method is validated.

Abstract

As the rectification-side devices of the offshore wind power transmission systems， the diode uncontrolled rectification units are a technological hotspot in the offshore wind power sector. Multiplex rectifier circuits are usually employed for diode uncontrolled rectification， with a 12-pulse rectifier circuits being the most common. Theoretical analyses of serial and parallel multiplex wiring in the 12-pulse and the 24-pulse rectifier circuits within the multiplex rectifier circuits have been conducted. This entails studying the harmonic characteristics of the alternating current on the AC side and the voltage on the DC side， deriving the calculation methods for the harmonic numbers and the harmonic amplitudes， and determining the total current harmonic distortion rate and the voltage ripple factor. Comparative analyses are made on the characteristics of 12-pulse and 24-pulse rectifier circuits， investigating the feasibility of applying the 24-pulse rectifier circuits in the diode uncontrolled rectification units. Simulations are carried out on the PSCAD/EMTDC platform.

Abstract

MMC （modular multilevel converter） contains a large number of switching elements， which brings a huge computational burden to the electromagnetic transient simulation. For this problem， this paper proposes a rapid simulation method for full-bridge sub-module MMC based on bridge arm equivalent capacitance. A modeling method for arm equivalent circuit under normal working state， blocking state and full state was developed， and a simulation model was developed which can accurately simulate electromagnetic transient response of the full bridge MMC. On PSCAD/EMTDC platform， a two-terminal MMC-based DC grid test system was constructed to validate its feasibility. Additionally， the model was compared with the Thevenin equivalent model. The results confirm the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed simulation.

Abstract

Prevailing video frame interpolation algorithms, that generate the intermediate frames from consecutive inputs, typically rely on complex model architectures with heavy parameters or large delay, hindering them from diverse real-time applications. In this work, we devise an efficient encoder-decoder based network, termed IFRNet, for fast intermediate frame synthesizing. It first extracts pyramid features from given inputs, and then refines the bilateral intermediate flow fields together with a powerful intermediate feature until generating the desired output. The gradually refined intermediate feature can not only facilitate intermediate flow estimation, but also compensate for contextual details, making IFRNet do not need additional synthesis or refinement module. To fully release its potential, we further propose a novel task-oriented optical flow distillation loss to focus on learning the useful teacher knowledge towards frame synthesizing. Meanwhile, a new geometry consistency regularization term is imposed on the gradually refined intermediate features to keep better structure layout. Experiments on various benchmarks demonstrate the excellent performance and fast inference speed of proposed approaches. Abstract

Orbital disorders include conditions originating from the orbital bones, surrounding tissues, and post-orbital septum. They also include systemic ailments affecting the orbit. Different clinical symptoms make up the complex range of orbital disorders. Because these disorders mostly impact the orbital area instead of the intraocular compartment, there is little diagnostic usefulness for typical ophthalmic visual tests. As such, the primary instruments for diagnosing and evaluating orbital illnesses have become ophthalmic imaging modalities, including ocular ultrasonography(B-scan), computed tomography(CT), and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI). One way to improve the precision and promptness of diagnosing orbital diseases is to standardize the functioning of widely used imaging equipment and define the radiological features of orbital abnormalities. Such programs are crucial for the care of patients with orbital disorders since they considerably reduce the number of misdiagnoses and missed diagnoses in these individuals. The underlying concepts, operational techniques, and normal and pathological imaging findings associated with common diagnostic tools for orbital illnesses are all thoroughly reviewed in this guideline. The objective is to improve primary healthcare settings' diagnostic competence in the field of orbital pathology and to standardize procedures for diagnosing orbital disorders.

39. ASFD: Automatic and Scalable Face Detector

Abstract

Along with current multi-scale based detectors, Feature Aggregation and Enhancement (FAE) modules have shown superior performance gains for cutting-edge object detection. However, these hand-crafted FAE modules show inconsistent improvements on face detection, which is mainly due to the significant distribution difference between its training and applying corpus, COCO vs. WIDER Face. To tackle this problem, we essentially analyse the effect of data distribution, and consequently propose to search an effective FAE architecture, termed AutoFAE by a differentiable architecture search, which outperforms all existing FAE modules in face detection with a considerable margin. Upon the found AutoFAE and existing backbones, a supernet is further built and trained, which automatically obtains a family of detectors under the different complexity constraints. Extensive experiments conducted on popular benchmarks, WIDER Face and FDDB, demonstrate the state-of-the-art performance-efficiency trade-off for the proposed automatic and scalable face detector (ASFD) family. In particular, our strong ASFD-D6 outperforms the best competitor with AP 96.7/96.2/92.1 on WIDER Face test, and the lightweight ASFD-D0 costs about 3.1 ms, more than 320 FPS, on the V100 GPU with VGA-resolution images., Comment: ACM MM2021
