14. Construction of ontology for auto-interpretable tolerance semantics in skin model

Abstract

Manufacturing and inspection in model-based engineering, achieving computer-readable and -interpretable tolerance specification representations, and maintaining unambiguous and consistent semantics throughout the life cycle of product design are issues that have attracted the attention of researchers and require urgent actions. An ontology method based on skin tolerance model is proposed in this study to address the abovementioned problems. Tolerance specification semantics described by the GeoSpelling language can be consistent at different stages of product development. In the ontology as a formal shared concept model, the knowledge described by the web ontology language and the semantic web rule language can be read and interpreted automatically via computer. The ontology is based on a rigorous description logic and describes tolerance information with clear and unambiguous semantics. The inference algorithm of this ontology can be used for ontology consistency checking, knowledge reasoning, and semantic query. The proposed method utilizes the advantages of ontology artificial intelligence technology and GeoSpelling language to describe tolerance semantics. Thus, this method is suitable for consistent semantic data exchange in different heterogeneous systems and automatic interpretation of tolerance semantics in smart manufacturing.

Abstract

In this paper, an improved interval-valued hesitant fuzzy weighted geometric (IIVHFWG) operator for multi-criterion decision-making is proposed. This operator is free of the limitations of the existing interval-valued hesitant fuzzy weighted average operator, interval-valued hesitant fuzzy weighted geometric operator, generalized interval-valued hesitant fuzzy weighted geometric operator, interval-valued hesitant fuzzy Hammer weighted average operator, and interval-valued hesitant fuzzy Hammer weighted geometric operator, which are prone to being influenced by extreme values. Based on the proposed IIVHFWG operator, a new method to solve the multi-criterion decisionmaking problems with interval-valued hesitant fuzzy elements is presented. Abstract

Accurately predicting the surface finish of fused deposition modeling (FDM) parts is an important task for the engineering application of FDM technology. So far, many prediction models have been proposed by establishing a mapping relationship between printing parameters and surface roughness. Each model can work well in its specific context; however, existing prediction models cannot meet the requirements of multi-factor and multi-category prediction of surface finish and cope with imbalanced data. Aiming at these issues, a prediction method based on a combination of the adaptive particle swarm optimization and K-nearest neighbor (APSO-KNN) algorithms is proposed in this paper. Seven input variables, including nozzle diameter, layer thickness, number of perimeters, flow rate, print speed, nozzle temperature, and build orientation, are considered. The printing values of each specimen are determined using an L27 Taguchi experimental design. A total of 27 specimens are printed and experimental data for the 27 specimens are used for model training and validation. The results indicate that the proposed method can achieve a minimum classification error of 0.01 after two iterations, with a maximum accuracy of 99.0%, and high model training efficiency. It can meet the requirements of predicting surface finish for FDM parts with multiple factors and categories and can handle imbalanced data. In addition, the high accuracy demonstrates the potential of this method for predicting surface finish, and its application in actual industrial manufacturing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Reliable measurement uncertainty is a crucial part of the conformance/nonconformance decision-making process in the field of Quality Control in Manufacturing. The conventional GUM-method cannot be applied to CMM measurements primarily because of lack of an analytical relationship between the input quantities and the measurement. This paper presents calibration uncertainty analysis in commercial CMM-based Coordinate Metrology. For the case study, the hole-plate calibrated by the PTB is used as a workpiece. The paper focuses on thermo-mechanical errors which immediately affect the dimensional accuracy of manufactured parts of high-precision manufacturers. Our findings have highlighted some practical issues related to the importance of maintaining thermal equilibrium before the measurement. The authors have concluded that the thermal influence as an uncertainty contributor of CMM measurement result dominates the overall budgets for this example. The improved calibration uncertainty assessment technique considering thermal influence is described in detail for the use of a wide range of CMM users.

Abstract

Model‐based definition (MBD) containing all product and manufacturing information (PMI) has become the data source of future product development because of its incomparable advantages over traditional two‐dimensional drawings. In the whole life cycle of product development, it is an urgent problem to realize the sharing of geometric tolerance specification information of PMI among different CAx (CAD, CAE, CAM, etc.) and the automatic interpretation of its semantics by computer. In this paper, the semantic representation ontology of pattern and combined geometrical specification is studied based on the new generation GPS theory and the construction process is introduced in detail through an example. Benefiting from the logic‐based semantics of the web ontology language (OWL) and semantic web rule language (SWRL), the pattern and combined geometrical specification semantic can be interpreted directly by computer and has the advantages of clear, unambiguous, and consistent at different stages of the product life cycle. Summary: In order to improve the assemblability and reduce the cost of the parts, the material requirements can be applied to the toleranced feature and the datum feature of the coaxiality at the same time in the practical application. How to realize the information exchange between different heterogeneous systems and how to read and explain the semantics of this complex tolerance specification automatically is one of the urgent problems to be solved in intelligent digital manufacturing. Ontology described in OWL2 DL and SWRL language has strict mathematical basis of description logic, and the knowledge represented by it has clear semantics and can be read and understood directly by computer. In addition, because of its consistency checking, knowledge reasoning, and flexible query ability, it becomes the most potential knowledge representation technology in the future. On the other hand, the semantic interpretation of tolerance specification by the new generation GPS theory based on skin model has the advantages of clear semantics, no ambiguity, and consistency at different stages of the product life cycle. In this article, the enhanced semantic representation ontology for this kind of coaxiality tolerance specification is constructed based on the advantages of the new GPS theory and ontology technology and the effectiveness of the method is verified and analyzed through a case. Abstract

Aiming at the phenomenon that different assembly dimension chain paths are searched according to different search criteria, a method of selection and evaluation of assembly dimension chain based on analytic hierarchy process (AHP) is proposed. Firstly, the traditional shortest path principle and the search priority principle are used to search the assembly dimension chain, and the searched dimension chain paths are sorted separately. AHP is used to analyze the path of each dimension chain. The hierarchical structure model of path analysis of assembly dimension chain is established by taking the constraint of dimension and tolerance, interference fit and clearance-or-transition fit as the evaluation factors of the path of assembly dimension chain. On this basis, according to Delphi method, the judgment matrix of each layer is established, and the total weight value of each dimension chain path is calculated and sorted, and the optimal dimension chain path is obtained. The traditional shortest path principle and the search priority principle are compared with the results of AHP. The results show that the evaluation results of AHP and the search priority principle are basically the same, and the quantitative impact of constraint types on assembly accuracy can be reflected more objectively and in more detail by using AHP, which improves the accuracy of automatic generation of dimension chains. At the same time, the weight of each dimension chain path can be quantitatively determined by AHP, which improves the rationality of the choice of dimension chain path.

Abstract

In view of the uncertainty of the design parameters of the radial clearance of rolling bearings, this paper introduces the ontology theory into the design of the radial clearance, which provides a feasible method for the parameter design of the radial clearance of rolling bearings. Firstly, analyze the influencing factors of radial clearance and construct a mathematical model of the radial clearance of rolling bearings; Secondly, construct an ontology representation model of the radial clearance of the rolling bearing and express it in OWL2 DL language; Thirdly, according to the knowledge of rolling bearing precision design, the semantic rules of rolling bearing radial clearance design are constructed by using the Semantic Web Rule Language (SWRL); Then, referring to the constructed semantic rules, the most reasonable design parameters of radial clearance are obtained by using Jess inference engine. Finally, take the gear reducer input shaft bearing as an example, the feasibility of the design method is verified.

In this work we present the current situation of uncertainty in GD & T, analyzing at the same time a future prospective and including some specific areas to be taken into consideration.
