Asarum wannanense Lu Q. Huang & H. S. Peng, a new species from southern Anhui, eastern China, is described and illustrated. This new species is similar to A. magnificum Tsiang ex C. Y. Cheng et C. S. Yang, but the prominent morphological difference lies in the special calyx tube. The calyx tube of A. wannanense is constricted at the middle and upper part, with an orifice ring of ca. 4 mm wide. The orifice ring and the floral opening have elongated into a secondary calyx tube, with transversely corrugate characteristics.

Through a combination of morphological and DNA data, a new scolopendrid centipede from southern and southwestern China was revealed: O. tricarinatus sp. nov. The species belong to the politus group but has three sharp tergal keels. Validation of phylogenetic status was performed through molecular analysis of the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI), 16S rRNA, and 28S rRNA sequences from 16 Otostigmus species. Otostigmus tricarinatus sp. nov. was found to be two populations and varied in the number of spines on the ultimate prefemur, the sutures on a sternite, and a pore-free median longitudinal strip in the pore field. The Yunnan-Guizhou plateau population of O. tricarinatus sp. nov. was sister to the clade O. politus politus + O. politus yunnanensis + Guangxi population of O. tricarinatus sp. nov. with strong support from both BI (bayesian inference) and ML (maximum likelihood) analyses (PP = 1, BS = 97%).

(Figs. 1, 2) Diagnosis:—Similar to A. magnificum, though notable for calyx tubes constricted at middle and upper part with an orifice ca. 4 mm wide ring, which the orifice ring and the floral opening have been elongated into a secondary calyx tube with transversely corrugate characteristics. Type:— CHINA. Anhui Province, Qimen County, Likou Town, under the evergreen broad-leaved forest, elev. 300–700 m, 2 May 2021, Peng HS 2021050201 (holotype ACM!; isotype ACM!). Herbs perennial. Rhizomes short and vertical, 1–3 mm in diam. Leaves solitary, nearly leathery; petiole 8–17 cm, pubescent; leaf blade adaxially deep green with or without white blotches, triangular-ovate or nearly triangular to elliptic-ovate, 7–13 cm long, 5–12 cm wide, apex acute, base auriculate-cordate, lateral lobes divaricate, 3–8 cm long, 3–8 cm wide, adaxial surface pubescent along midvein, abaxial surface green and glabrous, reticulate veins apparent; cataphylls ovate, ca. 2 cm long, ca. 1 cm wide, margin dense ciliolate. Peduncle recurved, 0.5–4 cm long. Calyx purplish green; calyx tube campanulate or long cylindric, 4.5–5 cm long, 1.2–2 cm in diam., the distal part of calyx tube abruptly swollen, then constricted at middle and upper part, with an orifice ring ca. 4 mm wide; the orifice ring and the floral opening have been elongated into a secondary calyx tube, transversely corrugate, orifice ring below the base of the tube longitudinally corrugate; lobes triangular-ovate, ca. 3 cm long, ca. 2 cm wide, base with triangular papillate area. Stamens 12. Filaments much shorter than anthers; connectives slightly extended beyond anthers, acute. Styles 6, free, apex 2-forked; stigmas lateral. Ovary half-inferior. Fruit and seeds not observed. Distribution and habitat: — Asarum wannanense was found in the south of Anhui Province and its adjacent areas, southeast China. It grows on forests, thickets, mountain slopes, moist shady areas at elevations of 300– 700 m. Phenology: —Flowering from March to June, fruits not observed. Etymology: —The specific epithet “wannanense” refers to its distribution area of the southern Anhui and adjacent regions. Objective Early triage of patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is pivotal in managing the disease. However, studies on the clinical risk score system of the risk factors for the development of severe disease are limited. Hence, we conducted a clinical risk score system for severe illness, which might optimize appropriate treatment strategies. Methods We conducted a retrospective, single-center study at the JinYinTan Hospital from January 24, 2020 to March 31, 2020. We evaluated the demographic, clinical, and laboratory data and performed a 10-fold cross-validation to split the data into a training set and validation set. We then screened the prognostic factors for severe illness using the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and logistic regression, and finally conducted a risk score to estimate the probability of severe illness in the training set. Data from the validation set were used to validate the score. Results A total of 295 patients were included. From 49 potential risk factors, 3 variables were measured as the risk score: neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (OR, 1.27; 95% CI, 1.15–1.39), albumin (OR, 0.76; 95% CI, 0.70–0.83), and chest computed tomography abnormalities (OR, 2.01; 95% CI, 1.41–2.86) and the AUC of the validation cohort was 0.822 (95% CI, 0.7667–0.8776). Conclusion This report may help define the potential of developing severe illness in patients with COVID-19 at an early stage, which might be related to the neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio, albumin, and chest computed tomography abnormalities.
